“Don’t worry about it,” I replied, smiling a little as we continued on our way. “Ursaring break down trees all the time, so it’s really no big deal. Anyways, it’s not like it was torn down out of spite or anything.”

I was about to ramble on, but a few feet ahead of us something rustled in the bushes. I paused, expecting a Caterpie or something to crawl by. Instead, a little brown fox emerged from the bushes. It flicked its long, slender ears and glanced at us, the creamy ruff around its neck bristling when it spotted BoneEdge. The fox’s bushy tail lifted straight into the air, and it narrowed its dark eyes as a growl started to rumble in its throat.

“Oh, that Eevee seems upset about something,” I said. “I wonder why…it doesn’t seem happy to see BoneEdge, that’s for sure.”

Just ahead of us, from behind a gathering of emerald green bushes a small brown fox like creature emerged.

Its beady black eyes locked upon us and it began to growl feebly.

“Oh, that Eevee seems upset about something,” Arunei noted. “I wonder why…it doesn’t seem happy to see BoneEdge, that’s for sure.”

I looked to BoneEdge whose eyes were transfixed on Eevee.

"Lets get this one BoneEdge!" I called out, BoneEdge snapped from his trance and let out an excited shriek.

"Use Swords Dance Marowak! Then follow up with a Bone Rush!" I ordered watching Marowak artfully begin his movements.

Using his bone as counter weight, he balanced on one leg and jutted his other in the oppisite direction of the bone. Tenderly he swung his bone around his body, building up momentum and clearing his mind.

I could see the determination in Marowak's eyes as he gracefully followed through with the Swords Dance. What was more amazing was the way the Swords Dance and Bone rush flowed together so perfectly.

As he took the final steps of his swords dance he released the Bone into the firing line of the Eevee. The whooshing sounds signalled danger for Eevee. The bone, becoming a blur of white, crept closer to our opponent and seemed to be magnitised towards it as it relentlessly pelted the foe.

 

Kingdom w/ Richard the Cubone

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!" Kingdom squealed out suddenly in a high tone somewhat unusual for a male to produce. It wasn't just his first National Park capture, but his very first overall! "Richard, we did it! We made our first capture, we--oh, crap!" Kingdom stopped his celebrating abruptly as he remembered that his partner was still suffering from poison. Picking up the little Cubone, as well as the Park Ball containing his new Nidorino (whom he decided to name later), Kingdom asked of Sara, "Sure, I'll buy a Status Potion," taking out $700 of his Park Credits.

I handed Kingdom the Status Potion, smiling a little at his enthusiasm. I then placed the $700 in a pouch on my pack, making sure it was securely zipped before casting about, watching for anything that might stumble upon us as I waited for Kingdom to heal Richard.

“So, enjoying your first visit to the National Park?” I asked, making idle conversation as I waited. That didn’t mean I wasn’t actually listening, which I was. Before Kingdom had a chance to reply, though, I noticed a faint rustle in one of the trees, among the lower branches. There was no wind, so the only thing that the rustling could mean was a Pokemon was causing it. A moment later, a Caterpie emerged from the leaves, inching its way towards the tip of the branch it was on. The large green caterpillar paused when it saw me, its yellow-ringed black eyes staring without any emotion. The red horn on its head twitched once, and then it turned from me, completely uninterested.

“That Caterpie sure doesn’t seem bothered by us,” I commented, mostly to myself. “They’re usually somewhat shy. I wonder why this one is so laid back?” I pondered it for a moment, then shrugged and faced Kingdom. “Hey, you know, a Butterfree can be a pretty good Pokemon if they’re raised properly. Caterpie are usually easier to catch; want to have a go?”

BoneEdge executed a graceful Swords Dance, but Eevee wasn’t waiting around for him to finish it. Narrowing its eyes, the little brown fox crouched low to the ground, watching BoneEdge with a critical gaze. Then it closed its eyes and breathed deeply, centering itself and preparing for what was most likely going to be a tough battle for it.

After its breathing steadied, Eevee opened its eyes just in time to see BoneEdge fling his club in a Bone Rush attack. Ears twitching ever so slightly, Eevee crouched lower, then leapt into the air, completely avoiding the bone as it whirled by beneath it. When it landed, it seemed to vanish, making use of a Quick Attack to close the distance between itself and its target.

When Eevee came back into view, it was only a few inches away from BoneEdge. Dropping its front body to the ground, Eevee wiggled its rear like a cat about to pounce and gathered itself, its muscles visibly cording beneath its sleek brown pelt. Before it could leap, though, BoneEdge’s club came whirling back t its owner. Eevee was, unfortunately, right in the path of the weapon, and as such took a nasty, painful-looking blow to the back of its head. Yelping, Eevee was sent rolling, tumbling past BoneEdge and into a nearby bush.

“Eevee seems like its got some good strategizing skills, but it also seems to not pay attention to what’s going on around it,” I said. “Another Pokemon might have knocked the bone out of the air, or waited and dodged as it returned. It most likely didn’t even think of the latter possibility.”

Kingdom w/ Richard the Cubone

"Okay, Richard, keep your eyes closed," Kingdom suggested to his Cubone as he sprayed his partner with the recently purchased medicine. Richard sneezed a bit, having inhaled some of the spray through his nose by accident. In a few seconds, Kingdom could see that the spray had done its job; Richard was no longer cringing from the effects of the poison.

"Thanks again, Sara," Kingdom happily said to Sara before noticing the Caterpie that had just appeared. Kingdom begins to consider his options; it's true that Caterpie are useful when fully evolved into Butterfree, what with Butterfree's Compoundeyes ability boosting accuracy, which is especially useful when using the Powder-based auxiliary moves. Despite these obvious facts, Kingdom still cannot quite make up his mind.

Still considering his options, Kingdom turned to Richard and asked, "Hey, why don't you chat with that Caterpie? Maybe you can figure out what it's story is." Richard tilted his head to one side, the skull helmet shifting a bit, as if to ask Kingdom about his train-of-thought, before conceding and trotting over to where the Caterpie was amongst the leaves, hoping to "play nice".

I nodded at Kingdom’s thanks and smiled a little, then turned my attention to Caterpie and Richard. Caterpie was munching on a leaf when Richard approached it, looking up at the Cubone with unconcerned eyes as it ate. After a few moments of considering the other Pokemon, Caterpie finished its leaf and spat out a thin, sticky strand of white webbing. The strand hit a small but thick branch that had several dozen large leaves growing out of the tip. With a jerk of its head, Caterpie snapped the branch and started to eat the webbing, reeling in its prize.

Once the branch reached its position, Caterpie used its horn to knock a few leaves from the tip, sending them fluttering down to land neatly on Richard’s head. With a satisfied grunt, Caterpie started to eat the other leaves, looking quite pleased with the current situation.

“I think Caterpie is trying to share,” I said. “That’s unusual; they tend to be protective of their food source. It must be in a really good mood or something.”

"BoneEdge" I called out to my loyal companion.

BoneEdge perked up at the sound of my voice.

"Let's show this little guy who is boss! Use Double Edge!".

Without hesitation Marowak began a light jog, his feet sending leaves scattering. He began growling in a low tone as his light jog became an all out sprint. Dirt spilling as he raced along the path.

He threw his whole body towards the eevee making sure he blocked off all possible exits, no escape. His body came tumbling towards eevee. The pain of colliding with his large white skull must be excruciating.

"Follow it up with a headbutt Marowak!" I bellowed as he staggered backwards.
Similarly, he lowered his head and charged brutaily towards our foe.

 

Kingdom w/ Richard the Cubone
"Aww, not ain't that cute?" Kingdom mused to himself as he saw the Caterpie share some of its lunch (or was it its breakfast?) with Richard. "You know," Kingdom continued, directing his speech toward Sara, "it would be a shame to have Richard fight Caterpie now that they're getting to know each other. What do you think I should do?" he asked as he watched Richard take one of the leaves off of his head. The little Cubone hesitated a bit before putting it in his mouth and began chewing it. The taste was not bad at all, having a crisp and refreshing flavor.

BoneEdge reseived the order from its trainer to execute a double edge attack. The Marowak nodded and lowerd it's head to prepare for the charge. It stare seemed to impale the small Eevee, who looked a little frightend for a second, not knowing what was comming. BoneEdge seemed what to be grinning through it's hard, white skull, but it could of just been an illusion.

Then, BoneEdge began to charge. Behind it, many leaves were flying up as it ran at amazing speeds toward the small, brown pokemon. The short hairs on the Eevee's small back seemed to stand up on end as the Marowak charged straight toward it. However, it wasn't so easily distracted. It bent its legs just a little, but not enough for BoneEdge to notice. At the last second, the Eevee jumped, sending leaves and dirt to fly into the air with it. However, it was just a bit too late as BoneEdge had already reached its target and slammed right into Eevee.A sound rung out through the forest that sounded like dynamite. Pidges and other birds flew up into the air startled by the sound of the mighty blow.

"My God!" Ranger Senzura exclaimed, "That was one hell of a blow!" he continued as he took his hands off his ears.

Gregory wasn't finished, however, as he commanded his BoneEdge to follow up with a Headbutt. The Marowak prepared again, but the Eevee had already bolted to the side, despite its pain, leaving a small cloud of dust in its wake. Senzura, Gregory, and BoneEdge stared at the small patch that was illuminated by the sunlight above, wondering where the Eevee might of gone.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, the small furry pokemon reappeared right beside BoneEdge. It opened its mouth wide and chomped down on the Marowak's exposed neck. BoneEdge jumped back in pain and feel to the ground. This hasty move had also taken a toll on the Eevee as well, as it waslaying on the ground in pain as well. Marowak was the first to get back up, determined to end the battle in it's favor.

Marowak stared with such determination at our foe that I swear the Eevee was going to explode with intimidation.

"Thats enough BoneEdge! I think it is time!" I muttered, drawing my companion back.

"Now Eevee! You're mine! It's been one long battle! (Only like a month )
GO POKÈBALL!" I exclaimed allowing a spherical shaped object to soar through the air and come into contact with the Eevee.

I was sure the Park Ball would do it's work.

But I would have to wait to find out...

Gregory threw the parkball with skill at the furry Eevee. The went straight for the brown little pokemon with some grace, opened up, and sucked the Eevee into its bright red light. The plopped onto the grassy floor and began to roll back and forth. It stopped for a second in the dirt, causing massive tension in the group.

"DING!"

The pokeball turned red, indicating the capture had been made. Senzura walked over to the ball and gave it to Gregory.

"That last attack was one hell of a blow I have to tell you" Senzura said to Gregory.

Senzura then look around the area. They were currently in what seemed to be a fork in the wooded path. The left road was short and quickly opened up to a clearing a forth mile back. What was in the clearing was impossible to tell. The other path was less clear, but seemed to have what looked like rocky steps that dissapeared into some ivy coverd area of the woods. It was hard to tell what was behind that.

"So where do you want to head Gregory?" asked Senzura.

"Awesome! We did it!" I cheered in recognition of 0ur successful capture.

I glanced at my ranger to see thier eyes lock onto a fork in the road ahead of us.

"So where do you want to head Gregory?" Senzura asked.

I patted Boneedge on his thick white skull as he snook up beside me, he thrusted his bone towards the left path.

"Left it is!" I smiled.

"Senzura, could I use a super potion?" i asked noticing harsh cuts and scrapes on Boneedge.

Dragonite flew through the clouds at an amazing speed with me on her back. Apparently, a ranger had to leave a trainer in the Park to attend to more serious matters. I was supposed to take over the trainer’s park run. As Dragonite flew, I looked at my Browser for the trainer’s information.

“So, Kingdom is his name, huh?” I said to no one in particular. “And he’s got a lone Cubone.”

Lately, I’d been getting a lot of daring trainers who only brought one Pokémon along with them. And just as I was sure would happen this time, they all managed to pull through and show amazing skill.

As I peered down to be sure where we are, I could see the trees rushing by as if they were running in the opposite direction. The navigator on my Browser showed that I was approaching the coordinates that the trainer was located.

“There!” I said out loud, pointing towards a lone trainer and his Cubone. They seemed to be accompanied by a Caterpie, who was sharing a bunch of leaves with the Cubone. Odd, I thought to myself. Usually, Caterpie were protective of their food. Not to mention, the sight of a Cubone eating leaves struck me as peculiar.

With a mighty swoop, Dragonite landed on the ground with a boom. A big puff of dust floated into the air from under Dragonite’s feet. I was pretty sure that sound had probably started the trainer and the Pokémon.

“Maybe you went a bit crazy with that landing,” I said to Dragonite. I pulled out her Pokémon, a purple-black Luxury Ball, and pressed the button. The shiny ball emitted a bright red flash that pulled Dragonite back within.

I turned towards the trainer and his Pokémon, who were now peering up at me.

“Hi, I’m Dee and I’ll be your ranger for the remainder of your time in the Park,” I said, holding out my hand. “Oh, and this is traveling-slash-ranger Partner, Luxray.”

I pulled out yet another Pokeball. This one was custom-made: blue on the top and black on the bottom. A golden line separated the two colors and filled the button on the Pokeball. Luxray popped out with a flash of light. She shook her fur and small bits of electricity came out. She gave me a quick look that showed her frustration of being confined to a Pokeball, and then turned towards Kingdom and his Pokémon.

"Oh, nice to meet you, Dee," Kingdom said to his new Ranger. He then went on to introduce his Cubone. "This is Richard, and yes, he is eating a leaf; even I don't know why, but it's kinda cute, so I'm not complaining, heh-heh."

Richard shot a peculiar glance at his Trainer, as if wanting to slap Kingdom silly, but seemed to decide against it as he went back to eating his leaf.

"Um, Dee," Kingdom asked his new Park Ranger, "Richard seems to be getting along really well with that Caterpie, and I'm still on the fence on whether or not I want to capture it. What do you suggest I do?" he concluded, a confused look in his eyes.

“Um, Dee” Kingdom started, “Richard seems to be getting along really well with that Caterpie, and I’m still on the fence on whether or not I want to capture it. What do you suggest I do?”

He looked a bit confused. At least, that’s what I thought. Without acknowledging that I’d heard his question or not, I picked up my Browser and checked his file. According to this file, he only had 2 Park Balls remaining. That wasn’t very much to work with considering all of the Pokémon that we would be encountering. I looked back up towards the trainer who was pondering whether or not he wanted to battle.

“Well,” I said. “You only have two Park Balls remaining, so you should put more consideration into it. Think about it, do you absolutely want a Caterpie right now? Or do you want to wait for something else?”

There wasn’t much that I could help Kingdom with. Caterpie did evolve into the handy Butterfree. But after capturing it, Kingdom would only have one Parkball remaining. It was a tough decision, but I didn’t want to tell him something that he would probably regret doing in the end. It would have to be his choice.

What Dee told Kingdom was true, that if he were to succeed in capturing Caterpie, he would be left with only one ParkBall in his possession for the remainder of the session. However, he did come here to capture a particular Pokemon to begin with, and he felt that he could at least try to get what he came for even with just one ParkBall left. And besides, there is always a next time.

"Alright, I've decided," Kingdom spoke up after a moment of being silent with thought. "Richard, you ready to do this?"

Richard looked up at his Trainer and nodded, then turned to look at the Caterpie apologetically. With a slight grunt of apology, Richard got up and ran to his Trainer's side.

"Okay, Dee, I've decided that I'm going to catch this Caterpie," Kingdom told his Park Ranger.

"Yeah, yeah. Okay, I'm nearly there. This might be him ahead," I said, putting down the phone as I bushed a branch out of my way. I was on a twisting path heading into the heart of the Woods. This chap's old ranger had to leave for some emergency, so now it was up to me.

Ahead, a man was sitting on a fallen tree trunk. He gave me a brief smile. "Sorry about before. You must be Gregory?" I asked him. He jumped at the sound of my voice. He gave me a brief nod. "Well, my name is Jay and I'll be escorting you through for the rest of this run."

Looking ahead, I saw the road forked to the right and to the left. "Which way would you like to go?"
