    en la vida conocí
    mujer igual a La Flaca
    coral negro de La Habana
    tremendísima mulata
cien libras de piel y hueso
    cuarenta kilos de Salsa
    en la cara dos soles
    que sin palabras hablan.

The music beat into Argent's ears softly, and he found himself lost in the strange tune. Although he was supposed to be doing yet more paperwork, he had finished the majority of it and he was kind of bored. He decided that once more, it was time for a run, and he'd have to search for a while to find one that was available. Still humming to the tune under his breath, he quickly rattled his mouse and clattered his fingers on the keyboard hurriedly, getting into the intranet system within the National Park. As a Ranger, Argent could check this system as much as he liked to see if there were any runs available to him - fortunately, there was a run available, one for a man called Eric. If he recalled correctly, this was the man who had led Argent's fiancée, Clara, through the Botanic Gardens. She was actually fairly pleased with the results - a Miltank and a Chansey had been obtained, and since then she had trained them both up fairly well. Miltank had learned a few extra moves, whilst Chansey had emerged from her shell and became a graceful Blissey.

    La Flaca duerme de día
dice que así el hambre engaña
    cuando cae a la noche
baja a bailar a La Tasca
    y bailar y bailar
    y tomar y tomar
    una cerveza tras otra
    pero ella nunca engorda.

Accepting the run, Argent quickly decided to get his gear ready, as within a few moments of acceptance, trainers were swiftly notified, and more often than not, they arrived at the gates to the area before he himself did, and he felt kind of clumsy because of that. He decided that he'd give another Pokémon a try on this run - instead of taking Cassidy like he usually did, he decided he'd take his Persian, which was a relatively new addition to his team. Her name was Mauzi, and she was quite a cool cat - of course, that was why the species of Pokémon were identified as the 'Classy Cat Pokémon'. Argent retrieved files for Eric's run, quickly stuffed them in his satchel and slung it over his shoulder. Walking away from his desk without any worries, he called out to Chimey through their telepathic link, like most trainers had with their Psychic-type Pokémon. She responded fast, and she promised that she'd meet him at the Meteor Valley gates with Mauzi. Chimey wasn't yet sure what to think of the new Persian, but she had been friendly to the creamy feline nevertheless.

por un beso de La Flaca yo daría lo que fuera
por un beso de ella, aunque solo uno fuera
por un beso de La Flaca yo daría lo que fuera
por un beso de ella, aunque solo uno fuera.

Stepping outside, Argent wasn't far away from the Meteor Valley outpost - a ten minute walk maximum. Of course, he could take one of the courtesy Jeeps or bicycles, but he preferred to walk somewhat. Setting off on the dusty path towards the other outpost, Argent adjusted his satchel and sighed, looking into the distance at the various picturesque scenes placed around him. Meanwhile, Mauzi and Chimey were also on their way towards Meteor Valley, although Chimey was levitating through the air with Mauzi at her side - she utilised Psychic in order to lift Mauzi alongside her, so they were moving at a faster rate than Argent was, despite there being no particular rush.

"Alright Absol, go faster," I said as I was riding Absol like it was a horse to Meteor Valley. This was my fastest way to travel since I didn't have any Pokemon on hand with Teleport, or anything that knew Fly, even though I had been bringing along my Dragonite. I wasn't taking any chances this run, I had a golden opportunity to leave here with four Pokemon captured, instead of the usual three due to a special item I was bringing along, and there was easily many Pokemon I wanted here, so I made sure to bring along plenty of balls, and six Pokemon; Absol, which I had out right now. Chandelure, because it's Ghost typing made it perfect for combating Psychic, and other Ghost-types. Ambipom, because it was my favorite Pokemon, and had a wide movepool. Scizor, because being a Bug-type made it handy against Psychics, and it had a wide movepool just like Ambipom. Zoroark due to its Dark typing being handy. And lastly Dragonite, because it was very powerful.

"Well Absol, how do you think we're doing on time?" I asked Absol, who glanced back at me, and picked up speed. It knew I didn't want to show up too late here, though I think it was getting tired, because as we got close it used its horn to grab me by the shirt, and throw me off of it, sending me crashing into the ground. "Hey, next time you wanna stop just say something, don't just throw me off of you..." I said to Absol, as I was rubbing my head to make it feel better. "Well at least we're here Absol, but before we get started I should get my Pokeplayer ready," I said, as I pulled out my Pokeplayer, and put in my Ralts Voice Disk, ready to hit play once my ranger took me into Meteor Valley. I took a few steps up, and I noticed someone standing there. "Hello, I'm Eric, and I'll guess you're my ranger," I said as I extended my hand. "I'm ready whenever you are, and I've made sure to get my Voice Disk ready ahead of time."

Chimey and Mauzi were first to arrive on the scene. Chimey gradually pulled Mauzi to a graceful stop, the Classy Cat Pokémon placing her four paws firmly on the ground. As a land-based Pokémon, she did not enjoy being up in the air, and had only reluctantly agreed to Chimey's suggestion as she wanted to make friends, as she was knew to the team - if she had said no, Chimey would have agreed to let her walk there, and she would have floated by her side, but Mauzi had let Chimey continue with her plans. Now it was time to wait for Argent - knowing him, he'd already be close, probably a few more minutes maximum. Hopefully he'd arrive before the trainer did this time, or even arrive at all - Chimey recalled a particular occasion when she had to Ranger a person herself due to Argent being ill, but had been charged with a run. In his place, he had sent two of his most trustworthy Pokémon, which where herself and Cassidy, his Clefable.

In the distance, someone was coming up rather quickly... riding their Absol, as far as Chimey could see. She jingled inquisitively as she watched the Dark-type Pokémon almost being treated like a Rapidash, but it seemed that the Absol was growing tired with carrying the trainer on its back. Turning, it hooked its trainer's shirt with its crescent horn and flung him off of its back. He crashed into the ground, spluttering, but Chimey refrained from moving closer. The trainer was still at a goodly distance, and she was still waiting for Argent to come so that the trainer could be properly met. Chimey knew that Argent wasn't one to be late, and she was expecting him at any second. However, instead of turning away from the trainer as he struggled slightly on the ground, she still eyed him watchfully, as she was sure that she'd sense when Argent had arrived.

"Purrr," Mauzi murmured, but loudly enough for Chimey to hear. In Pokémon language, this was roughly translated as 'Argent is here'. Persian are a species known for their eloquence.

True to the feline's words, Argent had jogged the last few metres and now stood beside the two of them - at this time, the trainer had regained his footing and was now standing up, fiddling with something, which Argent recognised as a PokéPlayer. He heard the strange cry of a Ralts ringing through the air, and the trainer made his way up to Argent, having noticed him at this stage. The Absol trotted obediently by his side, looking only slightly gloomy.

"Hello, I'm Eric, and I'll guess you're my ranger," he said as he extended his hand. "I'm ready whenever you are, and I've made sure to get my Voice Disk ready ahead of time."

"Hey, Eric! I'm Argent, and yes, I am going to be your Ranger today. I'm sure you remember Clara Feliday, my fiancée. I hope that some good Pokémon pop up," he added, shaking Eric's readily-extended hand firmly. "Let's go." Walking off down through the gates with both Mauzi and Chimey at one side of him, and Eric and his Absol were on the other. One of the only things Argent didn't really enjoy about Meteor Valley was that it seemed to be rather dull - a lot of things appeared grey and grim to him here, although he knew full well that they were not. Another thing he disliked was the tendency for thick fog to develop while trainers were on runs - he himself had had an unfortunate time with fog. He'd had to use Clara's Floatzel, Assan, to clear the fog for him.

As they progressed further, a sudden black mist appeared, but it quickly dissipated and a medium-sized Pokémon was revealed out of the blue. The Pokémon was primarily a black colour, although there were various purple features and bows were tied in various places. As a fellow Psychic-type, Chimey recognised the Pokémon as a Gothorita, the evolution to Gothita and the pre-evolution to Gothitelle. Gothic.

"Do you want to take on this Gothorita?" Argent asked, smiling encouragingly.

"Hey, Eric! I'm Argent, and yes, I am going to be your Ranger today. I'm sure you remember Clara Feliday, my fiancée. I hope that some good Pokémon pop up," Argent said as he shook my hand. "What, Clara? No idea who that is, though I'm sure Gary would know him, he's my ranger friend, either way though it doesn't matter," I said to Argent, who said "let's go," and with that we were off. We entered into Meteor Valley, and I was hopefully that I could leave here with me eventually owning a Gardevoir. In the mean time though, since it was clear my Ralts Voice Disk didn't work, I was going to see what else came my way, and hoped I'd run into a Kirlia, along the way.

Argent was leading me down the hall, and we already ran into our first encounter. It was a Pokemon that stronger resembled that of a goth human. It had a black "hair style" with two buns in its hair. A pale, purple face, with red lips. It had two white bows on its skirt, and was essentially an all black Pokemon which is why it seemed to resemble a goth human being, because all they ever dressed in was pure black, even when it was like 90 degrees outside.

"Do you want to take on this Gothorita?" Argent asked.

"No thanks," I replied. "Someone by the name of Bee said it was ugly, and I shouldn't try to capture it, but I don't want it anyway so I'd like to run if possible, or if not I have a Pokedoll ready so I can get to something else."

"No thanks," I replied. "Someone by the name of Bee said it was ugly and I shouldn't try to capture it, but I don't want it anyway so I'd like to run if possible, or if not I have a Pokédoll ready so I can get to something else."

"Uh, let's try to move past." Edging slowly away from the Gothorita with Eric behind him, Argent thought that the moment was decidedly tense. At one point whilst moving past the Gothorita, it seemed that the Psychic-type was about to lunge for one of them, but Mauzi did not let it. Although she was naturally a rather gentle being, Mauzi hissed for all she was worth at the Gothorita and swept her paw outwards as the Gothorita stepped forwards, batting her across the arm. Startled, the Gothorita fled away from the group, and Argent sighed, resuming a normal pace of walking so that they could continue the run without much more of a hitch. Argent was rather impressed with Mauzi's quick reflexes, and although her actions seemed to be out of character, they did help save a lot of trouble in the long run, and Mauzi's reaction was probably one that wouldn't have been replicated by another Pokémon of his. It seemed that she may come in useful as they went on through.

"Well done, Mauzi. You saved us a lot of bother there," Argent congratulated her as they walked away from the area. She purred slightly in acknowledgement of what he said, but did not do much else - whether she was trying to stop herself from looking a bit smug or something else, no-one would be able to tell from her expression. Since Eric wasn't pleased with the first encounter, Argent hoped that their luck would increase a little in trying to find a Pokémon which Eric would want to catch - after all, he was bringing a Hall Pass, which allowed four Pokémon to be taken out from the Park in a single run - why should that go to waste? Smiling slightly to himself, Argent swiftly moved on, looking around him as if searching for something else that Eric could battle - he knew that they often simply turned up by themselves, but Argent liked to look for the different Pokémon around the different areas whenever he found himself in one. Argent found himself sighing a little after a few minutes of walking - Meteor Valley never seemed to impress him that much for some reason.

After a while, however, they did come across something. A small blaze of fire whooshed past their noses as something solid and roundish flew by, but its course was redirected, seemingly by itself, and the fire suddenly died down. A rock-like Pokémon crashed into the ground, creating a small crater in the gravel. It stood up and shook its head, and its main defining features - such as most of its edges looking rather jagged, and the glowing spiral on its chest - revealed the small thing to be the Automaton Pokémon: Golett. It was a rather rare find, although one Argent had once found within Meteor Valley when he was there, and he had proceeded to capture the Pokémon. He did train it for a while, and it eventually evolved into a Golurk, but he ended up trading it to a kindly trainer, who gave him a Tangrowth named Oliver in return.

"Oh, how cute; it's a Golett. Do you want to battle this thing?" Argent inquired, hoping that he'd say yes - he wondered how Eric's battle against a Golett would compare to his very own.

We got around Gothorita without it giving us the least bit of trouble. Well, I shouldn't say without trouble, Gothorita looked as though it wanted to fight with us, but Argent's Persian was able to make sure that didn't happen. Thanks to Persian we were able to continue along the way. Argent led me along the way, with Absol by my side, and Meteor Valley really was a sight to see. It didn't surprise me that this was the home to most Psychic, Ghost, and Dark-types, though before we began I repelled Dark-types using a repellent. In a sense it was a little bit of a hard decision, because it would have been nice for my Abosl to see another Absol, but aside from that I didn't particularly care to run into any Dark-types. It was weird though, I had no idea how a repellent worked. It didn't make sense how it would just repel the Dark-type, it must have had something in it that kept them away, but that wasn't the trouble right now. All I needed to worry about was finding some nice Pokemon.

Not too long later we ran into something. It was a small, blue Pokemon. When looking at its body you could see that the blue on it shifted from light blue, to dark blue, and vice versa. It had two yellow-ish eyes. There was brown strap-like things on its body, and in the center was a blue square with a yellow swirl in the middle. This was an ancient Pokemon that resembled golems, but at the same time this Pokemon also seemed like it could be mechanical, well at least when it evolved anyway.

"Oh, how cute; it's a Golett. Do you want to battle this thing?" Argent asked. He seemed pretty hopeful that I would agree to face this thing. I couldn't blame him. When you're a ranger you don't want to just watch people walk through the park, and shake their head no, you want to watch them battle. Well, Argent wouldn't need to wait any longer.

"Golett wasn't my first choice here exactly, but it doesn't mean that I wouldn't want one. Sure, I'll be pleased to battle this," I said to Argent, as I tried to figure out what Pokemon I wanted to use. I looked at Absol, but I felt that that was better saved for a future battle. That left me with five other Pokemon, though Scizor wasn't the best choice for here, and I wasn't too particularly keen on using Dragonite yet. I have a good idea, I thought to myself. If I used Zoroark, then it could be disguised as Dragonite for the time being, and Golett would be confused, giving me an upper hand. This was the best thing I could do right now.

"Come on out Dragonite!" I yelled, as I threw Zoroark's Pokeball into the air. It came out taking on the appearance of Dragonite, like I wanted. Of course this ruse wouldn't last very long, a Pokemon who has Illusion, well their Illusion faded the second they were damaged by an attack. Of course this was even less effective if you used a move that the Pokemon who is being disguised didn't normally know. Though this wasn't normally a problem outside of trainer battles. Since Golett was a wild Pokemon I wasn't too worried that it might think something was fishy, so I knew I could attack right away.

"Alright Dragonite, start things off with a Hone Claws, then hit Golett with a Faint Attack!" I commanded. I wasn't one who cared to waste time in my battles. There were very few exceptions when I started out by taking things easy, and those were generally only against Pokemon who might present a serious challenge, such as Rotom, or Larvesta. Even then it was only to see how they battled. I could very well have a battle like that here, but not now.

This combo was fairly simple, use Hone Claws to boost strength, and if needed Accuracy, and then use Faint Attack to start off with some decent damage. Zoroark, or rather Dragonite based on how one looked at this, had pretty good attack to start with, but there was never anything wrong with raising the attack some more. More attack means more damage would be dealt from Physical attacks. That was one of the effects of Hone Claws, to boost attack by one stage. The other effect of said move was to increase the Pokemon who used it's Accuracy. While in this case Zoroark didn't know any moves that were a bit harder to land, well except Focus Blast, but using a Fighting-type move against a Ghost was pointlessly wasteful, I felt the slight increase in attack was better than using Swords Dance to double Zoroark's attack.

Once its claws were sharpened, a Faint Attack was due up. The way this attack worked was that the Pokemon using it would slowly approach the target, not giving the opponent a clue as to what it was planning. Then when the time was right the Pokemon using this would seemingly vanish, and hit the opponent with a sucker punch, not letting the opponent have much of a chance to avoid this. It was a nice, elusive move, a perfect way of starting off, or finishing a battle.

Zoroark got into position, still looking like Dragonite, and got ready to preform this combo. While I wasn't sure what Golett would do, I was indeed curious as to what it would try. I did know one thing for certain, if this Golett did impress me then it would certainly get a spot in the four Pokemon I'd leave here with, well provided I run into a total of four Pokemon I wanted to leave with in the first place.

"Golett wasn't my first choice here exactly, but it doesn't mean that I wouldn't want one. Sure, I'll be pleased to battle this," Eric said - after speaking, he seemed to have paused for a while. Argent was sure that he was deliberating on tactics and what Pokémon to use and the like, so he wasn't going to pressure him into a decision quickly. After all, he knew what it was like to begin a battle - a lot of the time, you had to spend a few minutes pondering on what you wanted to do with the battle. As a trainer, the task laid ahead of you was extremely difficult - you had to decide what to do, how to shape the battle and how to manipulate the opponent into trying to do what you had predicted they would. You had to always be a step ahead, and Argent was at least semi-confident that Eric could come up with something decent to combat the Golett. Also, Eric had some skilled Pokémon with him - not that Argent wasn't saying that his Pokémon weren't skilled, but they were not as 'rare' and they hadn't learned as many moves as the majority of Eric's Pokémon.

It seemed that Eric had finally got together a plan a few moments later, but Argent could have waited all day if he had to - as a ranger, any battle had the potential to be exciting, and Argent always loved to see one in a run, even if he had to wait a long time to have the trainer battle with a Pokémon - he couldn't recall a run he'd led so far when there wasn't at least one battle involved. Eric, grabbing the red-and-white sphere that held one of his Pokémon, and tossed it into the air.

"Come on out, Dragonite!" he yelled into the sky, and in a flash of white light, the large, yellow, Dragon-type Pokémon materialised dramatically. Dragonite wouldn't have been Argent's own first choice against the Ghost/Ground-type Pokémon, but he supposed that the creature did have some advantages over the small Automaton Pokémon, like attacks such as Ice Beam and its immunity to the Ground-type moves. "All right, Dragonite, start things off with a Hone Claws, then hit Golett with a Faint Attack!"

You what? Argent thought, and Chimey looked sharply in his direction.

What's wrong now? she asked placidly.

If I remember correctly, Dragonite doesn't even learn Faint Attack, Argent said in reply, looking back to the Wind Chime Pokémon.

Check it in your 'dex and see.

Argent, pulling out a small device, flicked through several screens to see the information that Argent's Pokédex had on Dragonite. After a quick check, Argent was certain that Dragonite couldn't learn Faint Attack. This had to be Zoroark - none of Eric's other Pokémon could imitate the very appearance of another Pokémon, but Argent had to admit that Eric's attempt at a ruse was very clever... Eric'd just have to hope that Golett wouldn't realise that Dragonite couldn't learn Faint Attack, and catch Zoroark out.

As Zoroark had a rather relaxed personality, he took a while getting to his attack. The fake Dragonite staggered forward a little bit, and raised his hands into the air, slashing outwards in preparation for battle - as he did, his claws flashed a bright white, and Argent knew that this was the Hone Claws move, which raised both attack and accuracy - a deadly combo in the hands of those who knew what they were doing. Argent hoped that Eric was competent enough to know what to do.

As Faint Attack was not a natural attack for a Dragonite to learn, the attack looked very unnatural under the bumbling appearance of the dozy-seeming Dragon-type. Zoroark/Dragonite moved forwards stealthily, something which did not seem to suit the Pokémon at all, but it seemed very endearing towards the confused Golett. As the 'Dragonite' had gotten close enough, he quickly slammed a heavy punch into the Golett's face, and Golett was pushed backwards with a great amount of force. However, the Golett swept itself off of the ground with surprising agility, almost as if it had been practising its breakdancing, and it slammed both of its jagged arms to its side. The spiral on its chest began to glow a light blue, and before anyone knew it, an attack had been released.

A straight-edged spiral of icy energy was projected at high speed from Golett's chest, and it impacted on the fake Dragonite. However, the attack seemed to have a more profound effect than what the wild Pokémon may have originally anticipated. The Dragonite's features morphed into that of the devilish Zoroark, although this one was not as devilish as one might expect, with the combination skills of a Slakoth. The Zoroark, shivering from the cold attack, stepped backwards a little after being demorphed. He waited on the commands of his faithful trainer, Eric.

Golett fell for Zoroark's Illusion, and as such it thought it was up against a Dragonite. Golett took Zoroark's attack head on, though it didn't look like Golett really took much damage at all, and it retaliated. Golett formed an Ice Beam attack, and fired it at Zoroark. Normally this would be weird since Golett wasn't much in the way of special attacking, but it did seem like it was up against a Dragonite, a Pokemon four times weak to Ice, so in theory it wasn't such a bad idea. It didn't matter though, Golett fired off its Ice Beam, and though it wasn't hitting Dragonite like Golett hoped, it at least shattered Zoroark's Illusion, revealing the fox-like, Dark-type Pokemon for what it really was. Zoroark was now out in the open, and I was fine with that, this was the way a battle should be, with no fancy tricks like Illusion.

I had to wonder what Golett would try now that it knew this was a Zoroark. Ghost-types weren't very good against Dark-types, but I wasn't the kind who underestimated a Pokemon. I knew about Golett from watching Golurk battle in the past, and I knew that this Golett could have very well had the ability Iron Fist, and had access to a move such as Hammer Arm. Now while Golett itself was weak to Zoroark, an Iron Fist boosted Fighting-type move would spell trouble for Zoroark. This thought made me consider switching Zoroark out for one of my other Pokemon, but I knew now wasn't the time to be regretting my choice here. Nearly every Pokemon could find itself at some sort of disadvantage vs another Pokemon, and this was no example. I knew if anything I just needed to capitalize on the current situation.

Zoroark didn't have as many attacking options as the other Pokemon I brought along, but I was fairly confident it had enough options to get the job at hand done. With Zoroark's attack boosted I figured it was probably a better idea to stick with using a physical attack for the time being, and with that thought in my head I knew just the move that should be used.

"All right Zoroark, you're doing good, so let's keep up the good work shall we? Now that you've sharpened your claws I can't think of a better time to use an attack like this this one, hit Golett with a Night Slash!" I commanded. Zoroark wasn't really the kind to do a very complex combo, and I wasn't one to think them up either, so having it do one attack was the best thing I could think of. My main goal for now was just to inflict some damage on Golett anyway.

Night Slash was a Dark-type move that focused on the users claws. The user of the attack would launch at the opponent when it sees an opening, and slash at the with their claws. This attack was vicious, and could easily take a big chunk out of you if you weren't careful. Like with many attacks Night Slash had an added effect. What that effect was was that Night Slash was more likely to score a critical hit over other moves. This meant Night Slash was more likely to deal double damage, over a move like Faint Attack. I didn't particularly care about scoring a critical hit though. All I wanted here was just to deal some more damage to Golett, and watch it get closer to being able to being caught.

Zoroark understood what it needed to do and got into position. I was playing a dangerous game here with the moves I was having Zoroark do. These were close range moves, ones where Zoroark would strike, and then be vulnerable to a direct attack from Golett. It was risky, but I also knew it was the only way I could make only true progress here. Besides, what would a battle be if both sides weren't sharing the pain? Zoroark got itself ready, and began to chance at Golett. I was curious to see what it would do now that it knew the true face of its foe, and how it would react with Zoroark charging right at it to attack.

"All right Zoroark, you're doing good, so let's keep up the good work, shall we? Now that you've sharpened your claws, I can't think of a better time to use an attack like this this one: hit Golett with a Night Slash!" Eric cried at his Zoroark energetically... however, Zoroark wasn't a particularly energetic kind of Pokémon - sure, he was a fast Pokémon, but he just took a relaxed attitude towards battles, as far as Argent could see. The Golett glared across the battlefield at the Zoroark, and both of them stared each other down for a few moments, as they both processed how exactly to carry out these attacks the best, preferably without getting hit by the opposing Pokémon. Golett stepped quietly to the left, as Zoroark swept himself to the right, so they still kept their distance from each other. It was actually quite tense, but suddenly the tension snapped, and they both charged at each other, the battlefield looking like it was about to witness a full on collision.

However, at the last moment, Zoroark pushed off of the ground powerfully, soaring through the air and doing a somersault - it seemed completely out of character, but Argent knew that all Pokémon were agile when they needed to be. Zoroark landed, facing the back of Golett, his claws glowing an evil purple. Slashing downwards with speed, he found that his attack was easily sidestepped by the smaller Pokémon, who spun to the left blindingly. As the spin finished, Golett's right fist glowed a bright white, and it sought to slam the fist straight into Zoroark's body, but now Zoroark was the one who dodged skilfully, but as he moved, he slashed rapidly. This time, his claws found their mark, and the Golett cried out in pain from the attack, but its own was not over yet. Its fist still glowing, it forced it directly into the stomach of the fox-like Pokémon, shoving him back with immense power.

Golett, now looking drained of more power, looked towards the opponent with some satisfaction - now that its DynamicPunch attack had worked, Zoroark would be feeling the effects of confusion heavily. However, it was also heavily damaged by Zoroark's boosted Night Slash, which was super-effective and a powerful move on its own. Panting slightly, the Golett stumbled backwards cautiously, still keeping its eyes on the Illusion Pokémon. The Zoroark almost fell over trying to totter back to his trainer, but he managed to keep his footing with some difficulty. Argent looked at the Pokémon concernedly, and could not believe that Buoysel would have the audacity to allow Zoroark to come confused, especially seeing as the MCR hadn't even been met yet!

Zoroark had hit Golett with its claws, but not without taking a DynamicPunch. I couldn't really believe it, I mean my attacks weren't doing much damage, and now Zoroark was confused. I guess it didn't matter though, I had to make the best of this awful situation. Of course Zoroark's best attacks were already being used though, so its bag of tricks was shrinking. The most obvious thing to do would be to use Zoroark's powerful STAB attacks, which I had been doing. I couldn't exactly think of much to do now short of one attack, but there was a chance it wouldn't even work anyway due to confusion, and Zoroark didn't know any moves that would help it overcome its confusion. All I could do was hope now. Hope that whatever move I picked next would work. If it didn't then I would be set a long way back.

Golett got back into position, but Zoroark not so much due to confusion messing with it. I thought that it was strange, the Ice Beam seemed to do more damage than DynamicPunch. You would have thought it was the other way around, but who knew really. Maybe Golett's fist only grazed Zoroark. I wasn't particularly sure, because I didn't get a very good look at Golett's attack. DynamicPunch is a pretty hard attack to hit, so if it really did only graze Zoroark, then Golett must not have had No Guard as its ability. If that was the case than any other punching type attacks that Golett threw my way would be trouble. Either way though what was done was done, and all I could do now was have Zoroark continue to attack. Just based on what I could see with its stamina Golett still had a good amount of fight left in it, so using a combo would be best, but still Zoroark wasn't the best Pokemon for using a complicated combo, so I guess I had to keep this to one attack.

"Zoroark, I need you to get a grip of yourself. You need to focus, focus on my voice and the sounds you hear from Golett so you know what direction its in. Remember since you're confused trust your other senses besides sight. Keeping that in mind use a Dark Pulse." I commanded. I was hoping Zoroark would understand what I meant. Being confused Zoroark couldn't trust its eyes, but if it was able to detect Golett through the use of its hearing and other senses. This was a bit risky sure, but at the moment it was really all I could do. I just had to trust in Zoroark's ability.

There was a reason as to why I chose Dark Pulse. It wasn't just because Golett had yet to see the attack done, but because of the distance it covered. Dark Pulse was an attack that struck the ground, and would hit anything around within range. It was an aura full of dark thoughts. Using ones own mind the Pokemon using the move would release a surge of purple colored waves from underneath their body. The flux of dark energy was so strong that it could actually cause anything it hit to flinch. I didn't care about some flinch though, all I really cared about was seeing whether or not Zoroark was able to pass through confusion and get an attack in or not.

"Zoroark, I need you to get a grip of yourself. You need to focus, focus on my voice and the sounds you hear from Golett so you know what direction it's in. Remember since you're confused trust your other senses besides sight. Keeping that in mind, use a Dark Pulse," Eric commanded of his Zoroark, and Argent watched his plight with the confused Pokémon with pity. This reminded him of the time when he had fought a Golett as well - his Floatzel had ended up becoming confused, but Argent didn't have to struggle after the confusion in order to capture it - by the time the Golett had confused Assan, it was already well weakened, and so Argent could throw his Park Ball. Unfortunately for Eric, this was not the same as what had happened. Argent assessed the situation - since Eric had already used a Night Slash, and he was clearly going for pure power, the amount of moves he could use to catch the Golett off-guard were quickly being whittled down. Thankfully, the Golett was fairly damaged at this stage, and Argent reckoned it'd take about one more strong attack (*i.e. post, you've almost met the MCR. ._.) after this one.

Argent personally thought that, with Zoroark's disposition, Eric ought to take his stance a little more defensively, but Eric definitely didn't think the same way as Argent did. Argent knew that Dark Pulse was a fairly wide-ranging move in terms of usage, and it all depended on how the Pokémon interpreted the command. Of course, trainers could try to direct it, but it might not have been prudent under the circumstance that Zoroark wasn't exactly that responsive for the moment. Argent sighed, wondering what would happen - Zoroark was still staring into space, seemingly dumbfounded by his surroundings. You could practically see the little birdies flying around his skull. However, when Eric's voice sounded out, it was plainly evident that the Illusion Pokémon was trying to listen, although it seemed to be a little bit of a challenge for him. However, the Zoroark miraculously seemed to understand, and he began to close his eyes to focus himself and his purpose here on the battlefield, to face his opponent on equal terms without his senses being inhibited.

He stayed there for a few moments, breathing in and out rhythmically. The Golett looked questioningly in his direction, but the Zoroark took no notice - Argent could tell that this stop was perhaps quizzical, and Argent found that this break was almost a novelty in a battle. Argent waited still, and Zoroark's eyes snapped open without warning. He was ready, and all signs of confusion seemed to have been gone - Eric's advice was quite smart, and now there wouldn't be much of a chance of Zoroark falling under confusion again, even if the Golett did try another DynamicPunch. Raising a clawed hand to the sky, tendrils of purplish-black energy spiralled up his arm, forming a crackling orb of maleficent energy just above his claws. Smashing his hand downwards, Argent knew what was going to happen before it even did. The dome of energy expanded outwards at an alarming rate, and it was likely that everyone was going to get hit unless drastic action was taken. It appeared that perhaps the recent recovery had made the fox-like Pokémon a little clumsy.

Agh! The voice of Chimey rang in Argent's head. She flung her stubby arms outwards, forming a wall of pure energy in front of herself, Argent and Eric. The barrier shimmered as the Dark Pulse hit it, forcing it to separate where the barrier began. Through the wall, the three watched in surprise as the Golett was knocked cleanly off of its feet, hitting the ground hard and fast. Overwhelmed by the power of the attack, the Golett struggled to get back up. The Golett managed to regain footing, and at this stage it charged towards Zoroark. Chimey dropped her barrier. Golett's fist glowing white once more, it seemed to be going for another DynamicPunch for whatever reason. Zoroark knew the tactics this time, and swept around the Golett gracefully, glaring at it in spite of himself. The Golett slashed his fist at the Zoroark once again, but the Zoroark leapt over the Golett without breaking a sweat, using the Golett's head as a springboard and effectively pushing him back into the ground. The Golett, muttering to itself, tottered back to its spot, spinning and looking at the Zoroark challengingly.

The Golett now was obviously in some kind of distress. It didn't seem to be faring well at all now - Argent's prediction was right. Another attack, and perhaps a status inflicted, and the Golett would be primed for capture.

Zoroark managed to get through its confusion, and slam Golett with a Dark Pulse. This Golett was a tough one though, it wasn't done for the count yet. Golett had fight left in it, but I didn't know if Zoroark should be the one to sap that fight from it. It wasn't that I didn't have faith in Zoroark's power being the right amount for weakening Golett into capture range, it was just that a status move would be very handy here, and unfortunately Zoroark didn't currently know any. Absol on the other hand knew two; Thunder Wave, and Will-o-Wisp. Absol was also standing right there, ready to jump in at any moment. Still it didn't feel right to swap out Zoroark after it worked hard, just to make Golett a little easier to capture. If anything I think that just using one more attack would have been enough to settle things. Of course the only question was what move? If I went too powerful here, Golett would be knocked out, rendering it unable to be captured. The obvious choice would be a move that wasn't that good against Golett, but Zoroark only knew one such move.

"Oh well, guess I need to risk it," I said to myself. This was a crucial moment, and timing here was everything. Before even giving Zoroark a command I opened up my backpack. I looked at all the different kinds of balls I had brought; eight Park Balls, seven Super Balls, five Hyper Balls, and a single Dark Ball. I knew the Dark Ball was better saved for a Pokemon that was harder to capture, or that I really wanted since it was the best ball to use, and was rare to obtain. Super and Hyper Balls were good choices, but those weren't as cheap as Park Balls, and I did have a lot of those on hand. With this thought in my head I pulled out a Park Ball, and readied it for when I need it.

Now that I had this ready I turned my attention to Zoroark. "Hey, you're doing great at there, and now I need you to do one last move for me. I'm going to want you to use a U-turn. When you bounce off of Golett though, rather than instantly come back at me swerve to the left where Absol is, and swap place with it instead. I have no intention of needing to use her here, but U-turn forces you to switch, and that's fine," I told Zoroark. U-turn wasn't the best move at all to use against Golett, but I liked to convenience of it. Once it hit Zoroark would bounce away from Golett, giving me a prime opportunity to throw a Park Ball at it. Like I said to Zoroark I had no intention of using Absol here, it's just that U-turn makes you swap Pokemon, and since Absol was already out of its ball it was just easiest to have her swap in.

Zoroark got itself into position, and took sight on Golett. U-turn was a Bug-type move where the user would strike the opposing Pokemon, and would then return to their trainer, having their trainer swap in a new Pokemon for them. It was a good move to use in a trainer battle if you weren't sure if your opponent was going to switch Pokemon or not. That wasn't my aim here. Here was just a hit and run tactic. I wanted Golett hit, and then have Zoroark bounce away giving me a clear shot at throwing my Park Ball at it. If Golett didn't want to be captured just yet though that was fine, because Absol would be in battle now, and could easily wrap things up with a Thunder Wave. I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but I knew it was a definite possibility. Zoroark flung itself at Golett, and the second it hit Golett I was going to throw my Park Ball, and hope for the best.

    Ranger: Gaius Tyrannius
    Trainer: Eric
    Area: Meteor Valley
    BP #1

It was a very busy day at the ranger office right now. A group of people had suddenly filed applications to enter the park and the ranger were scrambling to catch up with the demand. I was one of the few not otherwise occupied so I had been called out to relieve a ranger who had fallen ill while on the run.

I was in my land rover tearing down one of the few roads in the park as I headed for Meteor Valley in the interior of the park. It only took fifteen minutes to reach the park, then another five searching for the two.

When I found the pair the trainer’s Zoroark was locked in combat with a wild Golett. Zoroark was crouched low to the rocky ground, his teeth bared at the Ghost type. The stocky Golett was breathing hard, but his yellow eyes never waved from the Wolf Pokemon.

I clapped a hand on Silverswift, startling the ranger, and nodded at him so he could leave. One look at his pale face and I knew it was a good thing he was heading back. He disappeared with a flash he he teleported back to the office and presumably home.

“Oh well, guess I need to risk it.” I heard the trainer say to himself. “Hey, you’re doing great out there, and now I need you to do one last move for me. I’m going to want you to use a U-Turn. When you bounce off of Golett though, rather than instantly coming back at me, swerve to the left where Absol is, and swap place with it instead. I have no intention of needing to use her here, but U-Turn forces you to switch and that’s fine,” Eric commanded, pulling out a Pokeball.

Zoroark was a dark blue as the Pokemon moved in a flash to execute the U-Turn. Just as the Zoroark reached Golett the tip of the Pokemon turned a light green as it pulled on its energy to execute a Bug move, especially hard for a Dark type Pokemon.

The yellow eyes of Golett flashed in alarm as it was hit by the full force of the attack, but somehow the small Pokemon managed to stay its ground. It was about to throw an attack at Absol as switched places with Zoroark, but Eric’s Pokeball came sailing out of the air and smacked into the Ghost and Ground Pokemon.

With a red flash Golett was sucked into the capture device, which started to wiggle frantically as the Pokemon tried to escape. A moment later the ball dinged as it signaled a capture.

“Congrats,” I said walking up and grabbing the Pokeball. “Sorry, I’m your new ranger, Gaius.” I shook his hand in greeting as I placed the Golett in my bag. “Since I just got here, where do you want to go next? We can head into the caves or to valley floor.” As I heard his reply a flash of white caught my eye. I bent to examine it and found a white Apricorn.

U-turn did its job, and now Golett was captured. I wasn't even particularly sure that I wanted a Golurk, but I figured it'd at least be good to try it out before I made my decision. Golurk could learn some pretty good moves, and it had two useful abilities; No Guard, which would let any attack hit the opponent no matter what, at the cost of any attack they use hitting it. And Iron Fist, which raised the power of any punching type attacks Golurk might know. I'm sure I'd find a use for Golurk.

"Good job Zoroark, you put up a tough fight, and you aren't even badly hurt. You get some rest now," I said as I returned Zoroark to it's Pokeball, and turned my attention to my ranger.

“Congrats,” he said as he put Golett's ball in his bag. “Sorry, I’m your new ranger, Gaius,” he said to me as he shook my hand. “Since I just got here, where do you want to go next? We can head into the caves or to valley floor.”

"Why don't we head to the valley floor, I'm curious to see what might come my way. And in case it ends up being stuff I don't want, I've made sure to stock up on Pokedolls, but I guess only time will tell."

“Good job, Zoroark, you put up a tough fight, and you aren’t even badly hurt. You get some rest now,” Eric said to his Pke as he recalled it into its Pokeball. He turned to me, shook my hand and said, “Why don’t we head to the valley floor, I’m curious to see what might come my way. And in case it ends up being stuff I don’t want, I’ve made sure to stock up on Pokedolls, But I guess only time will tell.”

“No problem,” I replied. With that I turned and started down the path that would take us to the grassy knolls of the valley.

In no time at all we reached the waist-high grass of the valley floor. Because the grass was so high it made an excellent spot for wild Pokemon to hide in, and you could walk right by one without knowing it. But I knew a trick too. I reached to my belt and called out my handy Alakazam. The tall yellow humaniod Pokemon was a Psychic type, and because of that he could sense the whereabouts of non-Dark type Pokemon easily.

“Let me know if you sense anybody,” I told me long time companion.

‘Yes,” came the curt mental reply.

We had only took a few steps when Alakazam whirled to the right as a Shuppet popped out of the grass. The lavender-colored Pokemon looked at us, the Pokemon’s eyes wild with wonder. It must not run into humans very often, which meant it mostly must stick to the caves and had only come down for a little bit.

“Well, it’s a small Shuppet. You feel like adding one to your team?”

We were on our way again, and Gaius sent out his Alakazam to accompany him. Probably to see if it sensed any Pokemon coming our way. That made sense, and hopefully it would sense something I wanted. Well we took a few more steps, and we ran into something. Unfortunately though, it wasn't anything that good.

“Well, it’s a small Shuppet. You feel like adding one to your team?” Gaius asked.

"No thanks," I said. "I'm not even going to bother coming up with a reason why, so lets just try to move on, and if we can't I have a Pokedoll ready to be used," I told Gaius, as I pulled one of my Pokedolls out of my bag. I still had my Ralts Voice Disc, but I wasn't even going to bother with that now.

“No problem.” I turned to the Ghost Pokemon and made some shoing noises at it. The Pokemon instead floated closer and stared at me quizzically. I turned to Eric. “Yeah, hand me that Pokedoll, it seems to want to stick around some.”

Eric sighed and tossed me a Clefairy shaped plush doll. I shook the item at Shuppet and tossed it away from us. The Pokemon gave us one last lingering look before levitating over to where the doll was.

I nodded at Eric and we slunk away from the Pokemon before it lost interest in the doll.

“So, what -” I was interrupted by a beating of wings as a shadow passed over head. I looked up and it was a furry little bat creature. “Look, it’s a Swoobat. You want one?”

Gaius took my Pokedoll, and threw it at Shuppet. The little ghost, hand-puppet took the doll, and we were bound to be on our way again. Gaius turned to me and said, “so, what,” before being cutoff by the sound of some wings. With a quick glance I was able to tell what the creature was. It was a little bat creature. It was primarily a shade of blue in color. It was rather furry, and had pointy ears which resembled a triangle.

“Look, it’s a Swoobat. You want one?” Gaius asked.

"Under normal circumstances, sure I'd be happy to capture a Swoobat, due to it being a Flying-type. However, I already own a Swoobat due to a friend of mine, so I'll need to pass on this. Once again if we can't escape for this thing, then here's a Pokedoll."

“Under normal circumstances, sure I’d be happy to capture a Woobat, due to it being a Flying type. However, I already own a Woobat due to a friend of mine, so I’ll need to pass on this. Once again if we can’t escape for this thing, then here’s a Pokedoll.”

“No problem, let’s continue on and see if the Pokemon follows us.” With that said, I continued to walk down the dirt path snaking through the long grass. But when I looked up a few minutes later the Woobat was still high above circling us. “Yeah, pass me that doll,” I said to Eric.

When he handed me the doll I tossed it to Alakazam who used his Psychic abilities to move the toy towards Woobat. When Woobat caught sight of the Pokedoll it snagged it with its own Psychic powers and proceeded to play with its new doll.

“There’s a cave just ahead of us that a bunch of rare Pokemon like to hang around,” I said to Eric, “let’s see if a few are there now. Anyway, what Pokemon are you looking for?”

Just as I pushed away a long clump of grass from my vision a small blue Pokemon popped out of the grass.

“Wynaut!” the Pokemon shouted its presence.

    @AmericanTreeFrog

I had to spend another Pokedoll at the expense of escaping. I didn't know why these Pokemon would just leave me be, and let me escape. Maybe they were attracted to Absol or something, but that would be weird, what with Absol being a Dark-type and all, and therefore being strong against these Pokemon. Either way I looked at things though we had to continue on. Surely I couldn't keep encountering such common Pokemon, could I?

“There’s a cave just ahead of us that a bunch of rare Pokemon like to hang around, let’s see if a few are there now. Anyway, what Pokemon are you looking for?” Gaius asked. Before I had any chance to answer though, another Pokemon made its presence known to us. It was a small blue Pokemon. It was a baby Pokemon in fact, and one that could be deadly in certain hands once it evolved.

"Before you ask, I have no interest in battling this Wynaut. I wasn't never too big on Wobbuffet to begin with. So, if it's all the same to you I'd like to pass on this thing, and given my current luck I have a Pokedoll ready, just in case."
