    "Here's to a nice flaming horse capture!" Andy yelled as he threw a Super Ball as the Ponyta. I noticed that Andy tended to throw balls really hard, and this was no exception. The ball shot through the air and hit Ponyta in the side, converting it to red light and sucking it inside.

    The ball jiggled a bit on the ground as the Ponyta wrestled with the capture mechanism. Suddenly, the ball was forced open and the Ponyta emerged in a flash of red light. Apparently, it wasn't ready to go down just yet. The Super Ball clattered away onto a pile of nearby rocks - Andy could recover it once the battle was over.

    It was going down soon, however. It's mobility was ruined and it was poisoned. The only way it could yet win this battle was by causing its opponent to faint. Realising this, it breathed a huge fireball straight at Hornsly.

    The Super Ball hit the Ponyta, sucking it inside in a flash of red light. The Ponyta fought with the ball while it was inside it, and the Super Ball opened up, releasing the Ponyta from the capture. It wasn't ready to be caught yet, but it was going down soon. The Super Ball fell onto a pile of rocks; I figured I could recover it later.

    The Ponyta couldn't move and it was poisoned. Apparently it realised that the only way to win was to defeat its opponent. It instantly breathed a giant fireball right at Hornsly.

    "Hornsly, dodge that ball of fire! I'm gonna try to catch it again!" I yelled, quickly grabbing another Super Ball from my pocket. I threw it at the Ponyta, which bowed its head down, as if to headbutt away the Super Ball. I hoped that the Ponyta would be captured this time; I wasn't sure if I'd have enough time to recover the ball on the rocks before Hornsly was knocked out. I did have the potion, but I didn't want to use that unless absolutely neccessary.

    "Hornsly, dodge that ball of fire! I'm gonna try to catch it again!" Andy called.

    Hornsly tried to move, but he tripped over some loose pebbles and he tumbled to the ground. The large fireball struck Hornsly's backside, and he cried out in pain. The poor little Pokemon was almost at the end of his rope.

    Andy groped for his last Super Ball. He threw it as quickly as he could. Whether his National Park was over or not could depend on the result of this capture.

    The Ponyta was sucked into the ball, and it began shaking. Unfortunately for Andy, the Ponyta managed to escape once more. It tried to blow some fire at Hornsly, sensing his frailty, but for once Andy had a stroke of luck. The horse was winded. It slowly began stepping towards Hornsly, who was fighting to keep his consciousness. Both Super Balls were on the opposite side of the Ponyta from Andy, if he tried to run for them it would be close. Furthermore I couldn't interfere unless Andy asked me to, and even then I might not be able to act in time.

    Hornsly tried to get away, but he tripped on a couple of rocks and fell down. The fireball hit Hornsly's behind, and the poor little Nidoran cried out in pain. Hornsly was about to faint.

    The Ponyta went into the ball, which instantly began shaking. Sadly, the flaming horse managed to get out again. It tried to blow some more fire at Hornsly, seeing how weak it was, but I got lucky. The Ponyta slowly stepped towards Hornsly, who was apparently trying to keep conscious. The Super Balls were on the opposite side of Ponyta; if I tried to get them Hornsly might get knocked out.

    I turned to Chainy and said, "Could you please do something about the Ponyta or protect Hornsly? I'm gonna go try to get one of the Super Balls, but you'll have to do something in order for us to be able to continue going through the park - otherwise Hornsly will faint!" Without waiting for a response, I dashed across the field, behind the Ponyta, and started grabbing one of the Super Balls.

    OOC: Wasn't sure if I should throw the Super Ball yet, or wait for you to post (maybe with you doing something) before I try to capture Ponyta again.

    OOC: Yeah, this is a little messy because I could (and probably should) have Ponyta deal the final blow to Hornsly in this post, but you've been doing some good posts lately so I've decided to forestall it. I'll let the dice do my thinking for me.

Andy yelled as he ran around the Ponyta, heading for the Super Balls laying on the rocky ground.

    "Sorry, but I can't interfere unless the Pokemon is overly violent or you request to leave the Park!" I called back. I didn't want Andy's run to end this soon, in this way, but it wasn't my choice to make.

    Andy ran towards the Ponyta. He scooped up the ball just as Ponyta arrived next to Hornsly. Andy had maybe three seconds to throw the ball.

    OOC: Fixed.

    "Sorry, but I can't interfere unless the Pokemon is overly violent or you request to leave the Park!" Chainy called back to me. I wasn't too surprised at the answer, but I was just making sure he couldn't do anything.

    I picked up the Super Ball just as Ponyta appeared nest to Hornsly. I didn't have too long to throw the ball, and any second might cost me, so I swung around quickly and threw the ball at the Ponyta just as it was about to attack Hornsly. I hoped it would capture; but just in case as the ball flew towards the Ponyta I ran over to grab the other Super Ball, waiting for the ball to make contact with the Ponyta. I crossed my fingers; hopefully I wouldn't have to use any of my emergency supplies. They were there, but I didn't want to use them unless absolutely neccessary.

    Then an idea dawned on me. Hornsly might faint at any moment, and if he faints, my adventure through the National Park was over. Just to be safe, I decided to heal Hornsly. I grabbed up the Super Ball; just in case the Ponyta broke out again, stuck it in my pocket, and started running towards Hornsly. I picked out the Max Potion from my backpack and ran, quicker than I had in, well, forever!

    I hope I get there in time... if Hornsly faints and the Ponyta breaks out, I'm screwed. I thought, while running towards Hornsly. When I got close to Hornsly, I skidded down on my knees, getting ready to spray the Max Potion on the weak little Poison type. When I was within a foot of him, I started spraying the Max Potion on all of his wounds, hoping the potion would kick in fast enough.

    Andy ran over to the two Super Balls and picked both of them up, flinging one at the Ponyta. The ball made contact with the Ponyta just before it reached Hornsly, and for the third time it was absorbed into a Super Ball.

    The Super Ball wriggled on the ground as Andy ran over to Hornsly with a Max Potion. He dived, trying to get to Hornsly before the little creature fainted.

    Hornsly closed his eyes...

    Just as Andy sprayed him.

    The Max Potion would take a little bit of time to heal him, but that wasn't a huge problem. Hornsly would soon wake up refreshed, if a little burnt.

    As if Andy was on a roll, the Super Ball stopped shaking. I bent down to pick it up.

    "Congratulations Andy," I said, offering a hand to help him up.

    The ball hit Ponyta, and for the third time the flaming horse went into the ball. It wiggled around while I ran over to Hornsly, ready with the Max Potion. I dived at Hornsly, hoping that I would get there in time.

    Hornsly closed his eyes, about to faint, just as I sprayed him. The Max Potion might take awhile to fully heal Hornsly, but that wasn't a problem.

    Then, my efforts paid off. The Super Ball stopped wiggling around, with the Ponyta inside. Chainy picked it up and walked over to me.

    "Congratulations Andy," he said, offering a hand to help me up.

    When I was back on my feet, I asked him, "So where should we go now?"

    "So where should we go now?" Andy asked me.

    "Entirely up to you," I replied. We were standing on the edge of one of the larger volcanoes. We could climb up the edge of the volcano, walk around it, or head down into the plains again. The Donphan had probably retreated to its lair, and even if it caused us problems again I could probably get Dual to run it off.

    I explained the options to Andy and waited for him to decide. Personally, I hoped he didn't go up towards the volcano - I hated the heat and it was already hot enough. Besides, I was pretty sure I remembered him saying he was here looking for Ground-typed Pokemon. If that was the case, the best decision was probably to move out into the plains. That's where most of the Ground Pokemon lived, although some of the rarer and more powerful ones lived higher up.

    Hornsly stirred slightly and began breathing easier as the Max Potion took effect. However, he was still burned from the Ponyta's fire attacks. Before Andy used him to battle again, I would warm him about this so he didn't go into battle disadvantaged.

    "Entirely up to you" Chainy replied. We could climb down the edge of the volcano, walk around it, or go down into the plains. Chainy explained the options to me, and, when I heard the plains option, instantly thought of the Donphan. But then again, I thought, doesn't Chainy have a Gallade? I'm sure he could get his Gallade to fight it off.

    Chainy seemed to be sick of the heat, and I kind of was too.

    "Let's go down to the plains. Maybe we can get some other Ground types there." I said, hoping that there would be something cool like a Gligar waiting for me.

    Hornsly stirred, recovering from the battle that had just happened. He still seemed a bit burnt though; that could affect his battling later. Oh well, I thought to myself, there's always that Full Heal if Hornsly stays burned later.

    We began heading down to the plains, Chainy releived from the heat, Hornsly recovering from a heated battle, and me hoping for a cool Ground type in the plains.

    We walked down off the mountain, heading out into the plains. It was still hot out here, but it was only sun-heat, not sun-heat plus volcano-heat, so it was marginally more bearable. I considered summoning Smash, my Swampert, just to keep us cool but I decided against it. Smash didn't like the heat, and besides if it got much hotter we might actualy really need him then.

    The plains were sparse and devoid of life. They weren't really that big, just gaps between the mountains that made up the Deckbi range, but they were still lifeless. Few plants grew because it was rare for showers to make it over the volcanoes.

    As we walked, I noticed a slight shaking in the ground. I didn't think much of it because it could be volcanic activity and we weren't near an active volcano. But the rumbling kept on happening, and I could somehow feel it near us. I was just about to stop and investigate when a little Diglett popped its head above the surface. It moved over to Andy, somehow dragging its hole with it. It sniffed him and yapped a hello.

    "Do you want to try and capture this Diglett?" I asked Andy. "Remember, you can only take three Pokemon out so if you capture this one you'll have to leave one of the three you've already caught behind when you're finished."

    We headed down the mountain, into the cool air. Chainy glanced toward a Pokeball that he had; apparently he was considering bringing out one of his Pokemon to help us out. He then seemed to decide against it, looking on toward the plains.

    While we were walking in the plains, Chainy looked over to where the ground was shaking. Chainy was just about to lean down to investigate when a cute little Diglett popped its head out of the ground. It came toward me, and said something that sounded like yap.

    "Do you want to try and capture this Diglett?" Chainy asked me. "Remember, you can only take three Pokemon out so if you capture this one you'll have to leave one of the three you've already caught behind when you're finished."

    I looked at Hornsly, who shook his head. "Naah, we'll keep going. But it might be a trick getting away from this Diglett, who will likely follow us underground. Hornsly, are you ready?" I asked my trusty starter Pokemon as I scooped him up in my arm and started running away from the Diglett. I knew I probably could have just walked away, but I was feeling energetic.

    "Naah, we'll keep going. But it might be a trick getting away from this Diglett, who will likely follow us underground. Hornsly, are you ready?" Andy asked. He picked up the little purple Pokemon and ran, trying to escape the Diglett. I followed him, huffing and puffing for all I was worth.

    We sheltered underneath a sparse tree five minutes later. I shaded my eyes with my hands from the sun to look around.

    "I don't think it followed us," I said to Andy, sitting down next to him.

    The little Diglett popped up from underground right in front of me. It yapped a happy little greeting. I sighed. Apparently not.

    "Andy, the only way this guy is going to leave you alone is if you battle him," I said wearily. Then, a sudden thought struck me. "Or you could buy a PokeDoll for $500," I added. A PokeDoll would distract the Diglett long enough for use to get away.

    OOC: Do I just take away $500 from my normal URPG money, or do I have to go through the Park store or something like that?

    We ran away from the Diglett as if it was a Gengar. Chainy followed me, seeming to have a tougher time running away than I was.

    We found a tree a few minutes later, and hid underneath it. Chainy looked around, wondering if the Diglett followed us.

    "I don't think it followed us," Chainy said to me, sitting down under the tree.

    I breathed a sigh of relief. The Diglett was cute, but I just didn't want to battle it right now.

    I instantly took that sigh back. The Diglett popped out from underground, and yapped a happy greeting.

    "Andy, the only way this guy is going to leave you alone is if you battle him," Chainy said wearily. "Or you could buy a PokeDoll for $500," Chainy added.

    I didn't want to have to do that, but it's only $500, right? "Yeah, I'll take the Pokedoll," I said, exchanging $500 for a Pokedoll that Chainy was holding. I gave the Pokedoll to Diglett, which seemed happy that it had a new 'friend'.

    "Well, it's busy with that. Let's get going!" I said, jumping up and beginning to walk away from the tree with Hornsly.

    OOC: Nah, you just take $500 from your URPG stats.

    ~~~~~
    "Yeah, I'll take the PokeDoll," Andy said. He handed me a small wad of cash and I handed him a little stuffed toy in the shape of a Clefairy. I didn't like making Trainers pay to continue their runs, but these things cost money to make, and the National Park had to break even at the very worst to stay open.
    Andy placed the doll on the ground next to the Diglett. It sniffed the doll, then yapped thankfully and dragged the stuffed creature underground. Like always, the hole made by the Diglett closed up afterwards. It was strange how they did that. I personally believed they had some kind of telekinetic control over nearby soil. I shuddered a little bit as I thought about the doll's fate - dragged underground, unable to escape.
    I blanked the horrible thought from my mind just as Andy spoke up. "Well, it's busy with that. Let's get going!" he said.
    I nodded. It was almost too hot to talk. We moved out from underneath the sparse tree, travelling away from the large volcano. We weren't really heading anywhere in particular, but in front of us was another large mountain. It was somewhat strange in the Deckbi range in that it really was just a mountain - it wasn't a volcano.
    After five minutes of silent trudging, a random glance revealed a Sandshrew sheltering from the heat underneath a rock. Andy probably didn't want it, seeing as he already has one, but I had to point it out anyway. I did so, not making a noise. I knew that most of the moisture in your body was drawn out through the mouth, and I wanted to keep as much moisture inside me as possible.
    The Diglett sniffed the Pokedoll, yapped a thanks, and dragged it underground with it's mouth. Its hole disappeared automatically; I still didn't quite get that. Chainy seemed unnerved at the thought of the doll trapped underground.
    We headed out from underneath the tree toward a mountain. Apparently not all of the 'volcanoes' around here weren't volcanoes at all.
    As we were going, Chainy glanced over toward a rock. He pointed at something underneath it; it was a Sandshrew! I'm sure he knew I probably didn't want it; after all, I already got one.
    I shook my head, signalling to Chainy that I didn't want it. We kept on walking, but would the Sandshrew follow us?
    Hornsly looked like he was ready for a battle, but I had to pick him up and whisper to him that we'd get a battle in sooner or later. I explained to him that we already caught a Sandshrew. I wasn't too keen to get another one, especially since I could just buy one from the Pokemart.
    Andy glanced over to the Sandshrew but shook his head. Apparently he also knew of the dangers of talking excessively in the desert. We moved on, and the heat kept pressing down on us.
    "This is ridiculous," I burst out. I tapped Smash's Poke Ball, and he burst out in a flash of white light. Smash was one of my first Pokemon - I had caught him as a Mudkip, but he had evolved into a Swampert a long time ago by now. He was large, bigger than me, and blueish all over except for some orange spines. He looked at me and made a grumbling sound deep in this throat. I'd been with him for so long I could usually guess accurately what he was saying.
    "Yes, I know it's hot, smartass," I replied, "I've been walking out here for hours now. Mind helping us out?"
    Smash grumbled again, and then roared. A hazy cloud formed above us, and Smash shot a torrent of water into it. A light mist of rain began showering down upon us. Technically, I shouldn't be interfering with weather patterns like this, but the bigwigs can go stick it. It be hot out here, yo.
    "You don't have to stand under it," I said offhand to Andy. Just as I did so, I saw something moving out in the distance. It was a large Bastiodon, probably heading to a watering hole. It looked tired, ripe for a catch. I pointed it out to Andy.
    OOC: Did you really think I'd be able to write enough to catch that... thing? :p
    "This is ridiculous," Chainy said, tapping one of his Poke Balls. A Swampert burst out, grumbling something.
    "Yes, I know it's hot, smarty," Chainy replied to the blue and orange Pokemon. "I've been walking out here for hours now. Mind helping us out?"
    The Swampert grumbled, then roared at the sky. A cloud formed above us, and Swampert shot a stream of water at it. A light mist began coming down on us, refreshing Chainy, Hornsly and I.
    "You don't have to stand under it," Chainy said to me, looking around. He pointed out into the distance, where a giant Bastiodon was walking.
    I thought about it for a few seconds, but then decided not to. That Bastiodon, even if it was tired, would still be really hard to capture.
    "Nah, I think I'll pass," I said, walking along as the raincloud strangely followed Hornsly and I.
    OOC: Hey, it's on your encounter list. I had to offer it to you at some point in time. :p
    ~~~~~

    "Nah, I think I'll pass," Andy said. I nodded. Those things were massive, and not easy to catch, no matter how tired they were.

    We moved our path slightly away from the Bastiodon so that it wouldn't suddenly notice and take offense at us. Luckily, we passed by it without incident, still heading to the non-volcanic mountain. It was still freaking hot, but I knew in an hour or so it would begin to cool down. At least the heat was somewhat mitigated by Smash's mist cloud.

    As we moved forward my motion sensor picked up movement. I looked out to the right side and I saw a young Cranidos chasing tumbleweeds around. I guessed it was freshly weaned from its mother, as there was no parents around but it was still silly enough to play games like this.

    "Want to try catching that Cranidos?" I asked Andy.

    We passed by the Bastiodon, managing to avoid any attack from it. We continued to the volcano, which wasn't really a volcano. Smash's cloud still rained down on us, but it was still really hot.

    As we kept going forward, one of Chainy's gadgets beeped. Chainy looked to the right, and saw something. He pointed it out to me, so I looked. It was a young Cranidos messing around with some tumbleweeds.

    "Want to try catching that Cranidos?" Chainy asked me.

    "Nah, let's let it continue having fun with his tumbleweeds." I replied, not stopping. I figured there were rarer Pokemon around that I could catch, and since I only had one more Hyper Ball, I wanted to save it for a good Pokemon, one that I could take out of the Park instead of Sandshrew. I liked the Sandshrew, but I just felt like it wanted to stay here and continue eating the berries as it was when I found it.
