    Ranger Makina Auran

OOC: You need a Nature and Ability for all of your Mons, yo.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Makina yawned for what felt to be the thousandth time today, struggling to keep awake as she leaned against the wall of a nondescript concrete building. It had been only a several hours ago that she had been on the job leading a Trainer through the volcanic region of Mount Deckbi but, thanks to Rangers being busy or dropping off the face of the earth, she had to snag another Run scheduled first thing the next morning. While she hated early mornings, it was better than dealing with the Elites later if they saw that there was a serious waitlist of Trainers.

Nearby, a leonine Pokemon stretched lazily beside his Trainer. Despite being one of the few Pokemon Makina had actually caught rather than befriended in her time as a Ranger, the Luxray didn't see much action besides the occasional training session. Because of this, the Electric-type was still somewhat new to his actual job in the park.

Don't worry, Charge, we won't be waiting much longer,” Makina said, giving the Luxray a scratch behind one of his large rounded ears. “At least I hope not; getting up at the crack of dawn sucks for everyone unless you're a morning person.” To pass the time, she activated her PDA and looked up the info on their Trainer once more... or at least what she could see.

Whether it was thanks to a corrupted file or a bug in the system, there were large blanks on the statistics form. While Makina was able to see that the Trainer's name was James, she couldn't find an image on file. The registered Pokemon list had an equal amount of holes; while it was easy to tell the species of all four Pokemon, their demeanor and abilities were completely blank.

If that secretary forgot to fill out that info at all, I'm going to dropkick him,” Makina grumbled. There was little else to do but wait on the Trainer and get the information directly from him.

It was only as I neared the Park gates that I realised the huge errors I had made when filling in my application form. Initially, it didn't seem so bad as I assumed that I had just forgotten to list my Pokemon's natures, but I had also forgotten to list their abilities.

"I'm an idiot," I grumbled, racking my brains trying to remember. "Dragonite was definitely Jolly and will be using his Multiscale ability. Yeah, that should work out well. "The others aren't so easy to decide," I said aloud, more to myself than to the large Dragonite soaring overhead. "Gengar has to use Levitate. I suppose he's quite wicked by nature... He must be Calm though. Mamoswine is relaxed definitely, and his Thick Fat is undeniable. Harold, the Jynx, was going to be usingDry Skin because of her/his scaley disgusting skin. He/she is definitely Gentle though, right Dragonite?" I asked.

Dragonite, however, was not too interested, and shot ahead. I saw he was heading towards the gates where a figure was waiting. It must be the ranger. I saluted as we drew closer.

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Thankfully, it didn't take long for James to show up. The Trainer's arrival was preceded by the sight of a large orange Pokemon, the creature's small wings making a very noticeable flapping sound as it flew towards the front gate. Upon seeing the newcomer, Charge stood up and walked towards the Dragon-type.

You're James, right?” Makina asked as the young man showed up. “Normally I wouldn't have to ask, but apparently the computer decided to eat half of your file, including your photo. If so, I'll be taking you through the Power Plant today.” Looking over at the Dragonite and Manectric, she added, “I'm Ranger Makina, and that static fuzzball over there is Charge.”

Once all introductions were out of the way, Makina began to unlock the front gate (more of a door, really) to the Plant. When she tried to input the correct code in the terminal, however, the screen flashed an angry red and buzzed loudly. Don't tell me they changed the code while they were gone, she wondered silently, then idly tapped her right foot about as she tried to find the hidden pressure plate that served as an emergency trigger. Once she finally found the correct spot and heard a slight click, she applied just the right amount of pressure to activate the mechanism. The door slid open, and the group made their way inside the concrete building.

Unsurprisingly, the interior of the plant was very dim thanks to the sun not being too far in the sky just yet. Fiddling about in her backpack, Makina pulled out two flashlights, offering the second to James. “The locals here tend to knock stuff about, so there's always the risk of tripping over something or stepping in some broken glass. They tend to only get pretty destructive in the side rooms, but better safe than sorry.”

Despite the hour being early, their arrival appeared to have been noticed by at least one Pokemon. A small, almost kitten-like creature crept forward towards them, its fur standing on end. While it seemed to relax a little when seeing Charge, it clearly had no idea how to react around Dragonite.

Not exactly the rarest Pokemon in this area, but there are worst things to run into as a first encounter,” Makina remarked. “Care for a Shinx?”

After getting a little closer to the ranger, we made our introductions. “You're James, right?” Makina asked. “Normally I wouldn't have to ask, but apparently the computer decided to eat half of your file, including your photo. If so, I'll be taking you through the Power Plant today.”

"Yep, that's me," I replied. I wasn't all too surprised really. I remember that the computer system the Park relied on was well known for being... well, terrible. Makina unlocked the gates and we entered the Plant. It was quite dark inside, so the ranger passed me on a torch, and took out one for herself aswell. Before we had even made a single footstep into the plant, a little blue creature popped up before us.

“Not exactly the rarest Pokemon in this area, but there are worst things to run into as a first encounter,” Makina remarked. “Care for a Shinx?”

"Nah, I don't particularly like that family of Pokemon. Let's try and escape. If we can't I'll just buy a Pokedoll for 500. I have 68,700 as it is."

“Nah, I don't particularly like that family of Pokemon,” James replied, immediately shaking his head. “Let's try and escape. If we can't I'll just buy a Pokedoll for 500.”

Makina gave a nod, not surprised by the Trainer's answer. Shinx were popular pets, and were often sold in pet stores along with other common Pokemon. “Let's try to squeeze on by then,” she said, pointing towards the cluttered hallway. Though the walkway ahead was fairly free of clutter, there was an archway barely visible down the hall that looked promising.

Unfortunately, as they began to move Shinx gave a low growl in its throat. Giving a cry that may have sounded threatening to itself (though it sounded more like a loud mewl,) it moved to block the Dragonite's way.

Looks like Shinx is being more than a little territorial.” Makina sighed and pulled out a Pokedoll to hand to James, accepting the $500 in return. Even though Dragonite could likely fly over the small Electric-type, that would likely anger it enough to strike back with an electrical attack.

Once the Pokedoll was placed on the ground, Shinx stopped its aggressive posturing towards the Dragon-type and opted to check out the new toy that had been placed before it. While the wild Pokemon batted the plush Pikachu about, the group was able to slip by and head towards the next room.

The first thing that jumped out to Makina about this room when she saw it was that it looked like a packrat's paradise. The area was a small storage closet, roughly three meters long and two meters wide not counting the shelves that lined the walls. Upon these shelves lay assorted knicknacks, from magnets of all different shapes and sizes to gears that varied just as much as the former. Just when the Ranger was about to write off the room as deserted, she noticed two particular gears were moving slightly; shining her flashlight towards it, she noticed it was actually a slumbering Pokemon.

There's a Klink over here,” Makina spoke, keeping her voice down as she pointed out the Pokemon to James. “Want to leave it alone, or get a better look at it?”

    @Akinai ;

"Let's try to squeeze on by then," Makina said, and we made to sneak past the Shinx. However, once the little blue creature realised what ours plans were, he wasn't all too happy. He let out a kind of threatening growl, but it was quite high pitched. Resisting the desire to "d'awww" I handed Makina the money and she placed the Pokedoll on the ground.

Distracted by the toy, the Shinx unknowingly let us pass. We moved on into the next room, packed full of boxes and the like. A little spinning disk floated by us. "There's a Klink over there. Want to leave it alone, or get a better look at it?”

"Not really too interested. Let's try press on. If we can't, I'll use my 68,200 to purchase a Pokedoll."

"Not really too interested,” James replied, not paying much attention to the slumbering Steel-type. “Let's try to press on.”

Seeing that James wasn't looking to battle this Pokemon either, Makina slowly backed away from the Klink and led the group away from the storage room and back into the hall. Fortunately, Klink was a deep sleeper; it did not budge in the least, leaving the way clear.

The hallway led into what was likely the front office for the Plant, long before it was abandoned. The room contained a front counter, covered in a thick layer of dust thanks to many years of disuse. Other than this (along with a weathered calender that hung on the wall behind the counter,” there was not much to see for this area.

Not like any of the locals have any reason to be here,” Makina said, unsurprised to find the room empty. She then turned to face James. “Still, before we head any further: was there a specific Pokemon you were after? If not, we'll likely just walk about aimlessly and see what shows up.”

While waiting for the Trainer's answer, there was a sign of movement behind the front counter. At first, the only visible part of the Pokemon was a pair of yellow ears with black tips swiveling about. A few seconds later, a small mouse-like creature hopped on to the countertop and waved over at the group.

Look at that, a Pikachu greeter,” Makina remarked, grinning at the iconic yellow Pokemon.

    @Akinai ;

The Klink seemed quite content to snooze away and had no problem as we edged by it. Leaving this small boxed room we head out into a long and narrow corridor. It was just a short walk before we had reached the next room. On initial inspection, it appeared to be an office of some sort.

“Not like any of the locals have any reason to be here. Still, before we head any further: was there a specific Pokemon you were after? If not, we'll likely just walk about aimlessly and see what shows up.”

"Yeah, I'm looking for a Rotom in particular. It's probably my favourite Pokemon, but I seem to have lost track of where my other two have gone off to."

As I stopped speaking, I saw a little yellow figure ahead. "Pikachu," I groaned. I was never quite sure why I hated this ugly little mouse. Raichu, however, was pretty cool. But I had no interest in dealing with a Pikachu.

"Not really my cup of tea. Let's try pass it? If we need the Pokedoll I still have the 68,200 on me."

James didn't look happy in the least to see the electric yellow mouse. “Pikachu,” he groaned. “Not really my cup of tea. Let's try to pass it?”

Don't care for your own Power Plant mascot?” Makina said, lightly teasing the Trainer. Still, she couldn't blame James for being unhappy- Pikachu and its lower evolution Pichu were more common than Shinx, and their popularity tended to grow old once you saw their iconic face on TV for the hundredth time. Shrugging, she took a step towards the doorway.

Seeing that its audience wasn't as enraptured as they hoped, the Pikachu jumped off the counter to block the way, holding its arms up in a defiant gesture. When it saw that this likely wouldn't be enough to deter them, the small Electric-type's red cheeks began sparking dangerously.

Silently, Makina fished out another doll to place on the ground, this one in the shape of an Emolga. As the Pikachu puzzled over the new toy, she accepted the $500 in return from James. “Well, least now we can pass. You said you were after Rotom, right? I believe there's another storage room nearby that could be hiding one or two-”

There was a loud squeak, and yet another Pokemon popped out of hiding. This one tiptoed over to the Pokedoll out of curiosity, chattering to toy as if expecting it to talk back. This wasn't surprising, as the Electric-type hybrid was a living replica of the Doll.

Just how many Pokemon are hiding in here?” Makina wondered aloud, surprised. Curious, she leaned to take a look behind the office counter- sure enough, there was a small hole in the ground. This room was likely the nest of these two. “Makes me wonder just how many other cubbyholes are hidden in this building...still, did you want an Emolga?”

    @Akinai ;

“Don't care for your own Power Plant mascot?” Makina asked, jokingly. I couldn't help but pull a face. Those pikaclones were nauseating enough as it was, but Pikachu was by far the worst. It seemed that Pikachu sensed my hatred towards it as he hopped down from the counter before us, red cheeks flashing menacingly. I handed Makina the money and she tossed a doll of a pika-offspring at the little Electric type.

A moment later, another creature popped out of seemingly nowhere, rushing towards the doll.

“Makes me wonder just how many other cubbyholes are hidden in this building...still, did you want an Emolga?”

"Emolga is actually the only member of the pikaclones that I like. I actually have on already though. This one seems distracted by the pokedoll already, so let's try sneak past it. If we can't, I'll just buy another with my 67,700. Hopefully my money won't deplete too much from all these expensive dolls."

    Ranger Makina Auran

OOC: As always, there is a method to my madness :p

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“Emolga is actually the only member of the pikaclones that I like,” James replied. “I actually have one already though. This one seems distracted by the Pokedoll already, so let's try sneaking past it.”

Makina couldn't help but grin at James' choice of words. True, there did appear to be many Pokemon that looked disturbingly similar to the Pikachu family. Since they were all Electric-type in some form as well, they were likely related in some form or fashion. Either way, that would be something for researchers to find out; she was just a Ranger, and one with a job to do that at that. Fortunately, Emolga was completely absorbed in its one-sided conversation with the Doll, with an increasingly-annoyed Pikachu trying to obtain its toy back. With ease, the group made it past the two wild Pokemon.

The door led them to the main room of the Plant, which was a little easier to view due to the glass ceiling above. While there were sounds of movement as the door was opened, no Pokemon popped out to greet them- likely whatever locals were in this room were hiding to see what the humans would do first. Scattered along the tiled floor were assorted electronics, as if some packrat Pokemon had dragged the objects in here for its hoard. Just from a glance, Makina could spot a toaster, and old CRT monitor, and half of what looked to be an archaic lawnmower.

Huh, haven't seen one of these in forever,” Makina said, looking over at the monitor. In addition to being bulky, these devices were also a major pain to dispose of as well due to being able to store a deadly amount of electricity. As if it had read her mind, the monitor began to spark. Surprised, the Ranger took a quick step back. “What the-”

The device began to glow and soon a spectral form shot out from the device, revealing one of the biggest tricksters found in this area. The lightning rod-shaped Pokemon gave a chuckle, and began to float towards James to get a closer look at the human.

You have some luck, that's for sure,” Makina said to James. “Rotom are extremely rare.”

As I had kind of predicted, the little Emolga was so immersed in the Pikachu doll that he didn't bother looking up at us as we managed to walk by. I couldn't help but study the little creature as we passed; his yellow wings were outstretched as he waved his arms about, playing with the Pikachu doll. He pulled a face, poking a little tongue out at the doll, and then at the living version of the doll right beside him. I grinned as the two Electric types began to push each other playfully - each wanted to have the doll to themselves, but probably wouldn't even know what to do with it if they did actually have it.

"This Emolga reminds me of my very own," I told Makina as we passed by unnoticed. "Mine was actually the first one to be available in this land," I informed her. "I bought it off a shadey trainer down a street corner a few years back. I haven't really used mine for battling much, but he definitely has a sentimental value to him. It's certainly great to have a Pokemon that is always so energetic and cheerful around, no matter how anyone else feels. The negative emotions just seem to disappear when he's around... Sorry." I added. "I didn't really mean to ramble there. Just got stuck in a track of some old memories."

As if no rambling speech had occured, we pressed on. Leaving this cramped box room behind, we headed into one of the main rooms that the Plant had to offer. I wasn't entirely sure, but if I recalled correctly it was the Plant's generator room. As I pushed the door open, I took it all on, despite the dim lighting. The room, which I had guessed correctly a few minutes prior, was not quite as well kept and maintained as it had been a few short years ago. Desks previously overflowing with stacks of papers, much like the one's on every Ranger's desks, were now empty. But, their contents were still visible. The papers scattered along the floor. The staplers sprung open with their staples having poured out. Broken pencils and ink-stained pens littered the ground too. But that wasn't all that there was.

"There are some odd appliances," I said aloud after seeing a broken toaster a little to the right of my foot. A washing machine was visible next to a battered-looking refridgerator. "This place looks more like an office and an apartment crammed into one. Definitely not like the immaculate generator room it was a short while ago. I wonder what happened here..."

“Huh, haven't seen one of these in forever,” Makina said, looking over at a monitor I hadn't noticed before. Although the power button was obviously not turned on, and the monitor not hooked up to anything, the screen was an eery shade of blue. Makina advanced curiously, looking at the monitor all the while. Suddenly, sparks flew off the ancient monitor and Makina jumped back, clearly alarmed. "What the-" she started before stopping.

Why she was cut short, soon became clear. Out from the monitor itself came a Pokemon that was all too familiar to me. It was shaped like a lightningbolt with a dull orange center. It had large oddly-shaped eyes that always seemed to shine gleefully. It happened to be the very Pokemon I'd been looking for for such a long time. I was quite excited to have found one so short into this national park expedition. Rarer Pokemon tended to be later on, if they were even encountered, that is.

“You have some luck, that's for sure,” Makina said. “Rotom are extremely rare.”

"Yes, definitely. I've been searching for one for quite some time. I've heard they can be really mischievous though. Before I attempt to battle it though, I'm going to try and use this Blank Disk I've had for so long. A Rotom Voice Disk would certainly be something useful to have."

I switched my bag around, pulling the zip open. I found the little bag that I kept the disks in almost immediately and withdrew the silver disk that had "reserved for Rotom" written on it in felt-tip marker. I smiled a little and popped it into the Pokeplayer, placing them both on the ground.

"Hopefully the disk isn't scratched," I said, laughing at my own obviously poor wit.

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Unsurprisingly, James looked happy to see the spectral trickster. “Yes, definitely. I've been searching for one for quite some time. I've heard they can be really mischievous. Before I attempt to battle it though, I'm going to try and use this Blank Disk I've had for so long.”

As James looked about in his pack, the wild Rotom circled about the human. Its semi-translucent form bobbed about as it moved, almost as if it was eager to see just what would happen next. When its eyes rested on Charge and Dragonite, the creature let off little sparks of electricity in excitement.

Hopefully the disk isn't scratched,” James remarked, placing the blank disc into the Pokeplayer and hitting “Record.” Soon after, the device lit up in preparation to save the cry of the next Pokemon that spoke out.

Rotom, seeing the player, hovered over to the recording device for closer observation. It phased one of its lightning bolt-shaped hands into the Player, and muttered something under its breath as if trying to converse with the electronic object.

Makina could only watch in confusion. Truth be told, this was her first time seeing a Rotom in person so to speak- she knew they were sought after due to their ability to possess objects and obtain their power, but that was about it. One of her acquaintances ran a Ghost gym and would likely be more knowledgeable on the species...the Ranger made a mental note to call her later and tell the Leader of this event.

After Rotom had finished whatever task it had been trying to achieve, the recording light on the Pokeplayer dimmed. The device opened automatically, signaling that the Disk recording had been successful. The Ghost-type jumped back, surprised to see it move on its own. After watching the Player and discovering that no, it wasn't going to do anything else interesting, Rotom looked over at Syn once more. Judging from the impatient way it bobbed about, it clearly wanted to battle.

After a little inspection of the Pokeplayer, Rotom quickly grew bored of it. He turned towards me with a wicked grin plastered onto his face, and I knew exactly what that meant.

"Alright, now. Looks like Rotom's just as eager to battle as we are," I said, addressing the dual typed Ghost and Electric Pokemon. The only question now was what to use. After a few seconds of pondering it became apparent that half of my team was weak to Rotom, and the other half was weak to at least one of its forms that it could possibly take over, thus changing his typing. I couldn't exactly remember all of the possible machines that Rotom could take over, but he could undoubtedly become an Ice type by enterring the refrigerator that we'd seen earlier, or a Water type from that washing machine. Even a fire type from the toaster. Trying to predict what type he'd become, if he even were to possess any of the electrical appliances, was getting nowhere.

"Let's go with brute strength. Dragonite, come on out!" I called, flicking a Pokeball from my waist belt out onto the battlefield. The ball spun through the air for a moment before releasing a brilliant white light. I shielded my eyes from the intensity of light as my Pokemon began to take form. Within a second or two, a large orange dragon stood before me, wings flapping gently as he scanned the area. He grinned at the other Dragonite before giving him a little wave. Despite his huge bulk and immense strength, Dragonite had the behaviour of a little child sometimes. Not that there's anything wrong with that though.

"Alright, Dragonite. See that specter over there," I said, pointing towards the wicked Rotom. "That's gonna be our opponent for now, and if thing''s work out as I hope they do, he could very well be a new member of the team. You like the sound of that?" I asked the beastly Dragon and Flying type. He nodded slowly. A broad grin was glued onto his face for some reason or another. Probably because he has always loved to battle though. "Okay then. Dragonite, let's start ff with a Thunder Wave attack!" I commanded.

Thunder Wave, an Electric move that inflicted paralysis on the opponent, had proved to be very useful countless times before for me in battle. It generally took the form as a weak blast or barrier of electricity fired directly at the foe. The electricity would engulf the opponent, smothering them in small jolts for just a few seconds, before disappearing from sight. But the effects were far more powerful than you might think. Thunder Wave induced paralysis on the foe, slowing them down to generally a quarter of their previous speed and also rendering them unable to move sometimes. Dragonite's arms were outstretched and his face was contorted in concentration. I knew from previous experiences that if you strained your ears right about now, you could hear a very slight humming sound, like that of an electric generator. That was the move charging up.

Even though I used the move Thunder Wave quite a lot, I didn't often use it with this Dragonite. In fact, I rarely used it with types other than Electric types. Although it was only a rumour, the concept that Electric type Pokemon could use Thunder Wave more effectively was a pretty interesting one nonetheless. I'd heard on numerous occasions that Pokemon who'd been paralysed by an Electric type opponent, whether through Thunder Wave itself, or even many of the moves that can cause paralysis often like Discharge, Thunderbolt, Bounce and Thunder, Electric type Pokemon almost always ensured that the opponent was fully paralysed when inflicted with the status. Now, this never really held through for me. In fact, if anything, I'd be more able to test this hypothesis than your average joe as I have quite the collection of Electric type Pokemon. This, of course, stems from my days as an Electric type Gym Leader in Nimbasa city.

"Raichu, you know what to do." My voice rang out through the arena. The orange evolution of Pikachu nodded at me, before slapping his white stomach with his paws. The opposing Pokemon, a fearsome Dragon and Flying type Pokemon much like Dragonite but much more fierce, was knon as Salamence. This Dragon thought that Raichu was merely setup fodder and that this Gym would be an easy sweep with such a powerful Dragon type.

"Dragon Dance! When your speed is up, and your power boosted, nothing in this gym will be able to stop you, Salamence!" the opponent cried out. She was a girl of around eighteen years old. Older than the majority of hot-headed trainers, but she was just as hot-heated. As a matter of fact, more or less all trainers who challenged this very Gym were ht-headed if they were under twenty years of age. She was no exception.

The large blue dragons with the broad red wings rose off the ground, wings beating with an obvious strength. The Dragon's body became more refined; the muscles more prominent and the eyes sharper. The Pokemon even looked more agile, although it's hard for something to look specifically more agile.

"Thunder Wave now, Caramel Chu Chu!" I roared. Raichu's paws parted to unleash a blast of electricity. The sparks cackled through the air as they struck their target straight in the chest. Salamence was knocked down onto the ground from the force of the blow. Although it wasn't necessarily a very damaging move, the sudden surge of electrical energy was enough for making any Pokemon lose their concentration. The Dragon type Salamence twitched a little as the after effects of this move took place. I felt a little sorry for the Salamence as it was now. Its speed was cripplingly reduced and now he was even more susceptible to Raichu's attack. However, the worst was yet to come...

"Raichu, smack it with your Ice Gem boosted Hidden Power Ice!"

    BP1 (Vs. Rotom)

    Ranger Makina Auran

OOC: Think I missed something... does James have two Dragonite? Makina has a Luxray, Charge, as her partner currently.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Seeing that Rotom was finally done inspecting the Pokeplayer, James met the Rotom's gaze. “Alright, now. Looks like Rotom's just as eager to battle as we are,” he said.

It's probably curious to fight someone who owns such a strange talking box,” Makina remarked, nodding over to the Player. “Rotom may be pranksters, but they're ultra curious as well. Odd that it hasn't seen a Pokeplayer before though.”

James seemed to mull over what Pokemon to use. Since the room was filled with discarded devices, Rotom was likely to possess whatever appliance would give it an edge in battle. Finally, the Trainer unhooked a Pokeball from his belt and tossed it towards the Rotom. “Let's go with brute strength. Dragonite, come on out!”

The sphere opened, revealing the large orange body of Dragonite once more- James must have recalled it earlier so the draconic creature wouldn't have to squeeze the often-narrow hallways of the Plant. After hovering about, taking a quick survey of the area, Dragonite finally looked over at his Trainer with a happy grin on his face.

Alright, Dragonite. See that specter over there,” James began, pointing over at the wild Rotom, “That's gonna be our opponent for now, and if things work out as I hope they do, he could very well be a new member of the team. Let's start off with a Thunder Wave attack!”

Dragonite readily obeyed, spitting out a pulse of electrical energy towards the wild Pokemon. As the Wave struck Rotom, the specter's form twitched a bit as a higher-than-normal surge of electricity went through its form. Instead of being worried though, the Ghost-Electric hybrid did something the exact opposite- it grinned.

Once the Wave had subsided, Rotom began to emit electricity- the sparks a shocking yellow, unlike the deep blue bolts that Thunder Wave normally produced. The electrical current danced around the wild Pokemon's form for a few moments, then shot towards Dragonite in a surge of power. James's Pokemon gave a startled cry from the sudden attack, but managed to stay aloft.

Looks like Rotom used the Wave to power up a Discharge,” Makina stated to the Trainer. “It's likely paralyzed from the attempt, but probably not wise to keep using Electric attacks on the little sparkplug.”

Sure enough, Rotom's movement seemed to be hampered; while it had been effortlessly bobbing about earlier, the Pokemon's form was more sluggish. It looked about the room, carefully looking from appliance to appliance as it mulled over what to do next.

The Thunder Wave attack worked out surprisingly effective and actually struck the Rotom head-on. However, unlike most Pokemon when a Thunder Wave is heading their way, this particular Rotom didn't even try to move out of the way; in fact, he seemed to welcome the surge of electricity and stepped into it. His face lit up with glee and broke into a broad grin. I couldn't help but feel a little unnerved as the Rotom seemed to soak up the electricity that struck him.

"I'm not sure what he's so excited about," I said, a little uneasy. But, it didn't take long for me to realise why.

Rotom suddenly let loose electricity. But, instead of heading straight at Dragonite, they seemed to stop, suspended mid-air. Dragonite gave me an odd look, and I shrugged my shoulders. It didn't seem like either of us had any idea what was going on here. Suddenly, the blue cackling electricity began to move, circling around Rotom, dancing daintily under his control. We all watched the Rotom's trick, fully immersed in what he was doing. Not going to lie, I was quite impressed. Then, release!

"Watch out, Drag-" I shouted, but it was too late. The electricty surged forward and smacked Dragonite in his underbelly. He let out a grunt, clerly startled by the turn of events. After he had recovered from the momentary pain of the attack, he didn't seem too much worse off. He flapped his wings gently, testing them for any signs of paralysis, but things looked to be all in the clear. Rotom, however, wasn't looking so hot. I saw him twitch a little as a few sparks fleww from his body. I initially thought that it may be some sort of attack again, and began to get into combat mode, but that was not necessary. Rotom stumbled a little as the paralysis took over.

"Aha! Looks like the Thunder Wave worked just like we had hoped. Good job, Dragonite," I reminded him. It was always good to give your Pokemon praise.

“Looks like Rotom used the Wave to power up a Discharge,” Makina stated.“It's likely paralyzed from the attempt, but probably not wise to keep using Electric attacks on the little sparkplug.”

"Hmm. I suppose you're right. I guess that means Water type moves are off limits for now anyway. I guess we'll just keep it nice and safe and go with a good old Dragon Claw, Dragonite!"

Dragonite raised his arms before his face, palms facing towards him. He glanced down at the the hands, then at the gleeful Rotom, with a smirk that could rival Rotom's one just a few moments ago. Sharp nails shot up, seemingly out of nowhere, much like how Wolverine did it from X-Men, although these nails were not made from metal rods. And unfortunately, Dragonite couldn't just rejuvenate himself on a whim, but it was still a nice effect. Maybe a tad dramatic. Anyway...

    "Dragon Claw!"

“Hmm. I suppose you're right. I guess that means Water type moves are off limits for now anyway,” James replied, looking surprised at the way Rotom countered the Thunder Wave. “I guess we'll just keep it nice and safe and go with a good old Dragon Claw, Dragonite!”

Dragonite gave a large grin, holding up one of his claws while a blue-violet aura began to swirl around the limb. Thanks to Rotom's attention being elsewhere, it was child's play for the large Dragon-type to rake his opponent with a powerful swipe. Startled, Rotom attempted to create a shimmering barrier- and shuddered as its form stiffened. Paralysis was taking effect, and working well in Dragonite's favor.

Still, Rotom was able to act. Even though its defensive attack had failed, the specter had managed to reach its target- the large fridge both humans had noticed earlier. Giving a cheeky grin at Dragonite, Rotom easily fused into the object entirely, vanishing from sight.

Can't say this was entirely unexpected,” Makina said, backing away from the possessed refridgerator. Beside her, Charge looked over at the object and gave off a low growl. “You and Dragonite might want to prepare yourselves, I doubt Rotom entered that thing just to play around.”

At this point, Rotom had fully taken over the fridge, changing the object's form entirely. An aura of freezing air surrounded the fused creature, and the Electric-type's mouth (now visible on the outside of the fridge) was smirking in triumph.

A blueish hue soon envelliped Dragonite's right dominant hand, which was showed that the Dragon Claw was starting to work. I wasn't entirely sure how this type of aura differentiated itself from the fighting type aura of Pokemon like Lucario, but there was definitely some difference in what kinds of Pokemon were damaged more effectively and less effectively. Dragon type moves happened to do neutral damage on all of Rotom's formes, so that was a huge plus no matter what happened.

As Dragonite leapt forward, Rotom struggled to react quickly. However, despite the paralysis crippling Rotom's speed, it was still able to set up a temporary screen to reduce the damage taken from the attack, at least for the time being anyway. Reflect and Light Screen were invaluable moves in my books - they allowed Pokemon that would normally be quite frail and susceptible to damaging moves, become so much bulkier. At least for a select period of time anyway.

It was only at this point that I noticed just about where Rotom was hovering. The sneaky spectre gave me a malicious little look as it knew that I knew. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone was aware of what the Rotom's next course of action would be, everyone except for the oblivious Dragonite. Dragonite was rooted to the spot, lazily gazing at his right hand and wondering why it was no longer blue in colour. Despite being a creature of intelligence and immense power, it was rather clueless a lot of the time. I wasn't sure if that was down to the species of Dragonite in general, or maybe I did just get unlucky when I purchased that quirky Dratini from a shadey character so long ago.

It was a dark night, but not any old dark night. A very dark night, much like all the nights of interest. I remember specirfically as I headed down the cobbled pavement, glancing backwards over my shoulder after few seconds to make sure that I wasn't being followed. I don't think I was, but then again, it was rather dark. A light breeze picked up and I had to wrap my waistcoat closer to my body, fighting my momentarily-gritting teeth. As soon as I passed beneath the streetlight, I paused for just a moment. A quick glance around told me it was still all clear. I whipped out the sheet of paper.

It didn't take long to confirm the meeting point. There were, afterall, only about seven words on the crumpled up sheet of paper. I quickly stored the piece of paper in my pocket, and shoved my hands in after it. It was only a few more steps now, I found myself thinking, ebfore I came upon a dark alley. Much darker than your typical alley. This was the place. I pursed my lips as I headed into the inky darkness and began to whistle.

A screech and a hiss broke my whistling as a stray Purloin hopped down from one of the gutter drains and darted off beneath some bin bags in the nearby skip. I tried to ignore my thumping heart and the fact that I almost had a heart attack with the shock. Purloin in a dark alley at three or four in the morning? This was just a little too spooky.

"You got the goods," a voice whispered, smooth as silk. The voice sent a little shiver up my spine. It was so quiet it reminded me of the wind. And then, I saw the speaker. It was a hunched over man with a box in his hands. He glanced at me momentarily before lowering his cap to shield his face.

"Yes, right here," I said, nervously withdrawing the bag of jewels. I tossed the jewels to him, and he caught with one hand. The other barely holding the box up with the weight of it. He pulled the drawstring and glanced at the rubies inside. I could see his mouth break into a crooked yellow smile. "Pleasure," he whispered with that surprisingly soft voice, before backing away and darting off. I had to admit, the speed that he took off at was a little alarming, and I did feel a little unhappy and anxious as I checked to see whether he had delivered. I crept up towards the box, and pulled open the flaps carefully.

Inside was a large blue slug-like Pokemon. It had fairy-like wings attached to the sides of its head and a dull white underbelly. It was hard to tell in the darkness, but the Pokemon appeared to be sleeping. It was exactly what I had wanted. A Dratini! In just a short amount of time, I would have my very own Dragonite! It was such an implausible, amazing thought. Little did I know that this creature of lore would turn out to be quite a handfulll...

The fridge was dusty and covered in some kind of oil slick. Rotom's body glowed with a brilliant bluey white light for just fractions of a second before momentarily disappearing. A whirring noise sttarted up from the refridgerator after just a few seconds, and then Rotom's features became apparent on the machine. Its eyes were visible on the top of the fridge, and its little "limbs" of electricity hovered a few inches away from the refridgerator.

“Can't say this was entirely unexpected,” Makina said, backing away from the possessed refridgerator. “You and Dragonite might want to prepare yourselves, I doubt Rotom entered that thing just to play around.”

I appreciated Makina's hint of advice. However, I had been anticipating this moment and had an idea of where to begin.

"Alright, Dragonite, I need you to listen up carefully. First things first, that Rotom over there is now part Ice type. This means it can do huge amounts of damage to you in a short space of time. To prevent this, I need you to use Roost. This will not only heal you a little, but you will also lose your Flying typing and bring you up to full health. At full health, your Multiscale will be intact and even a Blizzard should not do too much damage."

"But that's not all, Dragonite. It's important that we remove that temporary barrier that rotom has created. We couldn't do it while Rotom was still a ghost type, but now we can. And we can do it as part of a super effective hit. Dragonite, after Roosting up, smash the Rotom with a powerful Brick Break. We need to start doing heavy damage here. That'a boy," I finished, seeing Dragonite flutter a little higher, preparing himself for a Roost.

Roost was an extraordinary move that allowed Flying type Pokemon to restore their health in just a few moments of flightless activity. It varied from Pokemon to pokemon, but it usually incolved reduced metabolic activity and heavy relaxation. The Pokemon roosting tended to not move too much while Roosting.

OOC: This is what happens when I keep getting distracted :/

    *~~~~~~~~~*

James didn't seem to surprised at Rotom's new form. Granted the Trainer had mentioned that he had owned a Rotom in the past; likely his prior partner had fused with fridge before for some reason. “Alright, Dragonite, I need you to listen up carefully. First things first, that Rotom over there is now part Ice type. This means it can do huge amounts of damage to you in a short space of time. To prevent this, I need you to use Roost. This will not only heal you a little, but you will also lose your Flying typing and bring you up to full health.”

Out of all the tactics James could use, Makina could honestly say she hadn't been expecting this one. She had expected the Trainer to switch out his Dragonite to a Pokemon that could weather Ice-type attacks, or maybe force the Rotom to leave the fridge somehow. Using Roost would still make Dragonite weak to any possible Ice attacks, but at least he could weather them out. All in all, it wasn't a bad idea.

But that's not all, Dragonite,” James continued, “It's important that we remove that temporary barrier that Rotom has created. We couldn't do it while Rotom was still a ghost type, but now we can. And we can do it as part of a super-effective hit. Dragonite, after Roosting up, smash the Rotom with a powerful Brick Break.”

Dragonite dropped to the floor immediately, both grounding himself and allowing a short rest. It wasn't long before the Pokemon's wounds seemed to fade away thanks to the healing effect of Roost. While the Dragon-type recuperated himself, Rotom's cheerful demeanor changed to a glare as it saw its opponent was simply ridding itself of all the damage it had inflicted earlier. After giving a sharp cry, the possessed refrigerator opened up both of its doors and let a chilling blast of wind forward into the room.

Everyone braced for impact, with Makina raising her arms reflexively and Charge leaping behind a fallen stove. James looked to be in no danger, but Dragonite had taken most of the icy assault. The Pokemon shivered violently, but still appeared somewhat healthy and, better yet, not frozen at all from the attack. Once the wind had ceased, Dragonite took to the air once more and struck the middle of the fridge with a single fist. The object-Pokemon wobbled dangerously for a moment, but managed to remain upright. No barrier seemed to shatter, yet the blow didn't seem as if it was cushioned at all.

Rotom's paralysis likely canceled whatever protection it was trying to set up,” Makina said, noticing the attack as well. “Looks like you guys got pretty lucky.”

Whatever happiness Rotom had been showing before, it was now gone. Its grin was now replaced with a look of determination, and sparks of electricity began to emanate from the fridge as the spirit charged up an attack. Whatever it was planning next, it was bound to be painful.

    @Akinai ;

After listening to my commands, Dragonite got straight to work. First on the agenda was Roost, and Dragonite didn't dally as he lowered himself down onto the ground floor. His wings slowed down and stopped beating furiously, and he nestled his head in close towards his body. Dragonite's eyelids slid closed and I could see in just a few short seconds the healing affects were starting to become obvious. Dragonite's tough exterior was soon shining, in the peak of condition, much as it is after a bath. Yes, my Pokemon tend to bathe. It's not that uncommon.

Rotom seemed to respond in the way that everyone had expected it to. When a Pokemon is four times weak to one of your same type attack bonus boosted attacks, it's probably a good idea to anticipate one of those moves. Rotom's refrridgerator door swung open all of a sudden. A cool breeze began to blow from inside of the machinery initially, but without a doubt, that picked up. Within just a few seconds an icy blast of air was smacking into us. I backed away from the battlefield, not wanting to get a cold from this attack, or even frostbite possibly. But this attack didn't seem all that powered up. And, it was rather warm in the room, so the refridgerator couldn't have been that cool before Rotom entered it.

As we were all recovering from the aftermath, Dragonite began stage two of the assault. I blew on my fingers to warm them up, before stuffing them inside of my pockets. Makina folded her rms to stop her from shivering, and I felt a little guilty. It wasn't the ranger's idea to get blasted with a shower of freezing cold air. I decided to apologise.

"Makina," I called over, grabbing the ranger's attention. "Hope you aren't too cold over there. I completely forgot to warn you that I noticed Rotom was in the freezer form and was likely to use the powerful Ice move Blizzard. Hopefully he'll want to turn into the Fire type heat forme and heat this place up a little. Not to mention the toaster forme looks pretty bitching."

In the mean time, Dragonite slammed the Rotom with a little fist. Rotom teetered backwards a little, but it didn't quite fall over. I wasn't quite sure whether the Reflect had shattered either, so I couldn't quite tell if it was safe to start using physical moves again effectively. Rotom sure didn't look all too hurt by the attacks so far anyway. It definitely appeared to be at way higher than full health. But then again, looks could be deceiving. Makina shouted something over to me.

“Rotom's paralysis likely canceled whatever protection it was trying to set up,” Makina said, noticing the attack as well. “Looks like you guys got pretty lucky.”

I couldn't help but agree. The Roost trick had worked out for us once, but I knew that a second time we mightn't be so lucky. Dragonite really wasn't safe in when the Ice type moves could be thrown around so easily. He needed to be replaced by someone who could take both Ice and Electric type moves, I thought, looking at the sparks leaping off of the Rotom. Rotom seemed to have changed quite dramatically in the last few moments. All looks of harmless mischief now replaced with a more serious determined look. This little motor meant business.

"Dragonite, I need you to come back," I said, as he was drawn back inside of the Pokeball I still had in my hands all this time. I quickly replaced that capsule device with another one that looked identical, but had a very distinct feel to it. "Come on out, Mamoswine!" I cried, flicking the other Pokeball into the air. "mamoswine is immune to Rotom's tricky Electric type moves thanks to its Ground typing, and it can shrug off Ice type moves with ease because of its ability Thick Fat. The huge mammoth materialised before me spotted the little Rotom. He scratched his tusks off the ground before grunting a challenge at the Rotom. Mamoswine could be a very dangerous Pokemon, and was certainly one to start a fight.

"Mamoswine," I called out to him. "Our first priority here is to deal as much damage to Rotom as we can. It is quite a bulky Pokemon, so we need you to hit hard and leave a serious dent. First things first, I want you to summon rocks with your Ancient Power move. When you have these rocks under your control, smash them into the Rotom for super effective dammage. However, i want you to then ram into the fallen rocks and make them smash into rotom with quite a force. You got that? First, we'll smack it with an Ancient Power, then smash it again with a Stone Edge. We'll use the Rock type to crush this Ice type!"
