Seeing that Rotom was beginning to spark dangerously, James apparently decided that Dragonite had had enough. “Dragonite, I need you to come back,” he commanded, recalling the large orange Pokemon. Immediately after, he tossed a second Pokeball forward. “Come on out, Mamoswine!”

The sphere opened, releasing a white light that materialized into a large, brown-furred Pokemon. The creature possessed an impressive set of tusks, and it snorted lightly once it was revealed that the opponent for today was just an animated fridge.

Our first priority here is to deal as much damage to Rotom as we can,” James called out to Mamoswine. “It is quite a bulky Pokemon, so we need you to hit hard and leave a serious dent. First things first, I want you to summon rocks with your Ancient Power move.”

This is going to be like a Tauros in a china shop, Makina thought, realizing just how destructive this fight could be. James's Mamoswine looked pretty calm compared to the rest of his species, but to be fighting indoors, with rocks no less, meant things could get ugly real fast. “Charge, get over here,” the Ranger called out, looking for the Luxray. Once her Pokemon had stepped out from his hiding place, she recalled the Electric-type for now. No need having to worry about one more getting possibly hurt.

By this time, James was finishing his command to Mamoswine. “You got that? First, we'll smack it with an Ancient Power, then smash it again with a Stone Edge. We'll use the Rock type to crush this Ice type!” the Trainer had a grin on his face, clearly happy with his choice of action.

Its attack charged, Rotom finally released its pent-up energy towards its opponent... and immediately frowned once it realized that not only had its target changed, but it was now getting stared down by a now slightly-annoyed Ground Pokemon. Electric moves were nearly useless against Ground-types unless they were airborne, and Mamoswine was quite clearly planted to the ground. The specter let out a whine, calling foul.

Shaking off the electrical attack easily, Mamoswine focused on his own attack instead. One of the quirks of AncientPower was that, unlike most Rock attacks, the technique could actually summon stones out of thin air. While researchers were still trying to explain just how this was possible, it didn't change the fact that it was an extremely useful move. As soon as the large rocks were summoned, a couple fell to the ground, one landing in the middle of the room and the second dropping dangerously close to a broken stove. The remaining three honed in on Rotom, slamming the fridge and knocking it on its side.

Letting out a cry of surprise, Rotom attempted to summon any type of attack in order to defend itself. Due to still being hindered by paralysis, the Electric-type was only able to utilize a minor technique as it fell. A stream of stars shot forth, the majority hitting the third stone and knocking it aside. The remainder of the attack honed in on Mamoswine, making the Ground-type grunt as the stars hit his thick pelt.

Not done yet, Mamoswine charged towards the fallen rock in the middle, aiming the stone at the fallen Rotom. While a little off his target, the stone struck the lower part of the fridge, leaving a noticeable dent on the object. Upon impact, there was a soft glow as the fridge changed form once more, and a blinding yellow light shot out. The light formed once more into Rotom, clearly panicking as it looked about for what to do next.

Rotom had been too immersed in getting itself prepped to use its own rather powerful moves, that it hadn't even noticed tha Dragonite was replaced with Mamoswine. When the spectre finally looked up was when he released the pulse of electricity he had stored up, but that quickly dissipitated as he saw the monstrous mamoswine towering over it. I could see Rotom shoot it dirty looks and it even appeared to grumble under its breath. I tried to contain my laughter and maintain a serious composure, but this little Rotom was so dramatic it was hard to contain the mirth.

A little infuriated now, Rotom decided it was better to fire off any old attack rather than waste a turn, and so opted to fire off a very mild Swift. Shooting star shaped beams of light drifted lazily forwards and bounced off mamoswine's tough hide. Mamoswine looked more or less completely unscathed as Rotom looked back at it furiously. Then, it was Mamoswine's time to shine. Rising up a little on his rear feet, he let out a monstrous roar. The very ground seemed to shake as he summoned up little pebbles from thin air. The pebbles rapidly expanded in mid-air, before reaching the size of a human head. There were only about twnety or so of these rocks floating in the air when Mamoswine flung them forwards.

The rocks cascaded down on Rotom, hitting it left, right and center. Rotom couldn't really do anything but look on as the stones pummeled it. Mamoswine took Rotom's trapped position as the perfect opportunity to begin Stone Edge. Lowering its head and extended its tusks, Mamoswine shot forward.and lunged into one of the larger rocks in the middle. Mamoswine sent the rock flying into the refrigerator, although his accuracy was a little shakey. The rock shot through the air, and scraped off the side of the refrigerator Rotom. Although it barely made contact, there was still a noticeable dent in the appliance. Rotom noticed this too, and realised that now would be the perfect time to flit into another appliance.

The refrigerator glowed a dull white for just a split second, before it became an ordinary broken refrigerator once more. Rotom's ghost forme slipped out of the broken down machine, and began to scan the surrounding area for a new object to take over. I felt as though I had to act fast, and deal damage to the much frailer Ghost form Rotom before it was too late.

"Mamoswine, I need you to act quickly. Rotom is fleeing from this forme to another, so it'd be in our best interest to prevent it from doing so. Or, at the very least, slow it down, and damage it before it can become another huge pain in the ass. Mamoswine, blast the Rotom with a refreshingly-cold Ice Beam and slow it down. As the ice covers the Rotom's body, I want you to charge into it with an Icicle Crash. Now, Mamoswine, go!"

While I did not anticipate the Ice Beam to do a whole ton of damage, I knew that it would still do a fair amount to put a little more pressure on Rotom. Mamoswine was definitely weaker from the special side, but it still did have surprisingly decent special attack. Its special attack was more than enough to slow down the Rotom and perhaps distract it with an Ice Beam. It could even freeze if things went really well, but I knew that was a very unlikely occurence. The latest statistics polls had the chance of freezing occuring from any known move as no higher than ten percent, but obvioudly, it varied from Pokemon to Pokemon. In fact, Ice types and Fire types had a zero percent chance of being frozen solid it would seem, as there had never been any reported cases of such events occuring. At least, not to my knowledge anyway.

Icicle Crash on the other hand, should do a good chunk of damage. It was a powerful same type attack move that coated Mamoswine in Icy sheets before he charged at the opponent, smashing into their body with the full weight of his own. It was such a surprising and powerful attack, that it was quite often for the opponent to flinch in shock, or pain even, from the move. They would be nice side effects, but dealing heavy damage was our main cause for concern right now.

With Rotom out in the open once more, James decided to take advantage of the situation. Since the Ghost wasn't possessing anything, it would be much weaker to attacks. “Mamoswine, I need you to act quickly. Rotom is fleeing from this forme to another, so it'd be in our best interest to prevent it from doing so. “Blast the Rotom with a refreshingly-cold Ice Beam and slow it down. As the ice covers the Rotom's body, I want you to charge into it with an Icicle Crash. Now, go!”

Mamoswine, hearing the urgency in his Trainer's voice, immediately shot out a beam of freezing energy towards the fleeing Rotom. The ice slammed into the Electric-type, causing it to lower towards the ground as it was caught off-balance. Out of annoyance for being interrupted, Rotom quickly charged up a sphere of pure energy, lobbing the dark-hued ball at Mamoswine. The attack struck true, making the large swine shake his head and step back.

Entering the second part of his attack, Mamoswine lowered his head, digging one foot into the ground as it prepared to charge. An icy rime began to encompass the Ground-Ice hybrid as well, empowering the attack to the element. Taking quick aim, Mamoswine rushed head-on towards Rotom as the Electric-type hastily attempted to power up another attack. Both Pokemon were launched forward by Mamoswine's inertia, eventually crashing into a pile of assorted broken electronics.

As Mamoswine began to step out of the pile, he was knocked to his side by a pulse of sinister dark energy. Rotom, managing to somehow stay afloat despite the damage it had taken, canceled the pulse as it looked about in the pile for something to use. Finally, it gave a squeal of delight as it saw a particular object, diving into the appliance with zeal. The object, a small toaster oven, glowed as fused with the trickster.

Mamoswine's beam of ice erupted from his mouth just after my command, and it struck the fleeing Rotom in the back. Rotom winced a little and let out a little yelp. However, it seemed like that yelp was more out of surprise than actual pain, as Rotom envisioned he would be able to switch forms with ease. Now a little delayed, Rotom decided to fire back his own attack before going to change forms once more. A dark blob of pure energy shot forward from Rotom's limb-like appendages and shot straight towards Mamoswine. My great mammoth Pokemon did seem a little shocked by this turn of events and didn't quite managed to move out of the way of the incoming attack. The Shadow Ball smacked Mamoswine full force in theface, and he let out a little sound of annoyance. Mamoswine shook his head furiously as he tried to remove the ringing sound from his ears and stepped back a little.

However, Mamoswine sure was a trooper, and stubborn as anything. He wasn't going to let one little attack stop his own attacks, and he began to prepare himself for the Icicle Crash without any more delay. Mamoswine dug his forefront into the ground as he steeled himself for the charge. A thin layer of ice covered mamoswine's front just before he shot forward, head bowed down a little, body shooting forward at full power. The heavy Mamoswine picked up a little speed as h approached the Rotom, who had begun to charge up another attack. It seemed that Rotom had forgotten completely about changing forms at this stage, which was definitely a bit of a breather. When Rotom was in any forme other than its Ghost and Electric type Forme, it was certainly noticeably bulkier, and could even hit harder too. The machinery that he took over allowed Rotom to withstand more hits and he could also harness the energy from said machinery in the forms of different typed moves.

It was said that not all of Rotom's different forms had been yet discovered, and that one day there would be a different Rotom forme for each of the 18 types. As it stood now, there were only 5 different discovered formes and the regular Rotom forme. If my memory was serving me correctly the formes were Ice when Rotom has possessed a refrigerator, Fire when it was a toaster or easy-bake oven was rumoured too, Water when Rotom took over any kind of water machinery (but usually it was a washing machine or dishwasher), Flying when Rotom was inside of a fan, and finally Grass type when Rotom controlled a lawnmower, leafblower, or most other garden apparatus that required electricity.

A sudden and loud crashing sound reminded me of the ongoing battle. The icicle Crash had worked successfully at least, and Mamoswine had slammed into Rotom, knocking the pair of them into a pile of electrical equipment that had been lying around. Mamoswine steadily rose to his feet, as the now visibly more injured Rotom fired off a wave of dark energy. If I had to guess, I would have said it was Dark Pulse as it was one of, if not the, only Dark move that Rotom was capable of learning. Mamoswine shrugged off the attack, but it had allowed Rotom a new window of opportunity to swap formes like it had planned all along.

Rotom gave a little squeak of happiness as it approached the little oven appliance, that looked in serious need of repairs. Rotom soon fused itself with the appliance and let out another squeal of joy as it welcomed this new forme. The Fire type forme wasn't all too threatening. Mamoswine's ability, Thick Fat, meant that even a same type type attack boosted Overheat would not do too much damage, and Mamoswine was naturally quite bulky. Being a Fire type still left Rotom susceptible to Rock and Ground type moves. But, it was clearly getting much weaker now, so we had to thread rather carefully.

"Mamoswine, fire a glob of mud onto the Rotom. Mud Bomb should still hurt, but not do too much damage. If Rotom looks capable to take another hit afterwards, tap him with a light Rock Smash just to keep him on his toes... figuratively of course. Watch out for that Overheat as well, but it shouldn't be the end of the world if it does manage to hit you," I said to Mamoswine. I sensed that it was almost time to try and capture the particular Rotom. The battle had gotten the feel that it was soon drawing to a close, and would hopefully end in a capture. Rotom was a Pokemon I would definitely appreciate in my Electric type Gym, after all.

Even though Rotom had managed to fuse with another object once more, James didn't look worried in the least. Considering his current Pokemon was a formidable Mamoswine, this was unsurprising. “Mamoswine, fire a glob of mud onto the Rotom. Mud Bomb should still hurt, but not do too much damage. If Rotom looks capable to take another hit afterwards, tap him with a light Rock Smash just to keep him on his toes,” the Trainer called out, though his voice trailed off. After a moment of slight awkwardness, he added, “Figuratively of course.”

That would be a sight to see,” Makina chimed in. “A delicate Mamoswine.” This battle was beginning to look pretty much over for Rotom, but who knows- maybe it was still saving something special for last.

Mamoswine launched into his next attack, spitting out a large, brown glob at the possessed toaster. While normally Mud Bomb was mainly used in the outdoors where wet dirt was common, a Ground Pokemon could create their own effect on their own... whether it be something as simple as infusing their attacks with their affinity or through more disgusting methods as the Ice-type was using now. The glob looked as it had the consistency of mucus, hitting Rotom with a sick splatting sound.

At first, Rotom didn't react. The small specter had both of its eyes closed, chanting lowly in was was likely the Pokemon language. A swirl of wind sourrounded the wild Pokemon, to which the trickster imbued the technique with a shadowy aura before letting it fly free. The gale slammed into Mamoswine, making the Pokemon stagger for a split second before planting all four of its feet as solidly as he could inside the Plant.

As the wind faded, Mamoswine charged towards his target once more. Before anyone could tell the Pokemon that James was trying to capture Rotom though, the Ice-type stopped just a split second before impact and gave a light stomp to the toaster instead. Sure enough, the creature could stop on a dime when it truly wanted to.

Rotom gave a loud cry, though whether it was from pain or irritation was uncertain. A white aura began to encompass the toaster, and after a few seconds Mamoswine gave a surprised snort while Rotom grinned jubilantly.

Rotom is trying to use Pain Split!” Makina warned James. “Find a way to break it before the link is complete, or all of this time spent whittling down its health would have been pointless.

“That would be a sight to see,” Makina chimed in. “A delicate Mamoswine.” Mamoswine wasn't so much delicate, as it was diligent, but either way, it was a prime candidate for any Park trip. It had a combination of bulk, strength and endurance that I admired in pokemon.

Mamoswine took this time to prepare the Mud Bomb move. I could see from the facial expressions that he was currently swirling the glob of muddy spit and phlegm around his mouth, getting ready to launch it at the animated toaster Pokemon. Then with a spitting sound, Mamoswine fired the orb of mud and other liquids inter-mixed at the Rotom. It hit the now-Fire-type Pokemon with a sickening splat sound, and brown spittle flew everywhere. Rotom flinched a little, like just about every Pokemon after enduring this attack, but it still seemed ready for battle. This move had a relatively common side affect of lowering the foe's accuracy as mud and other gunk could get in the Pokemon's eyes and make them temorarily blinded.

Rotom however, had begun its attack in retaliation. A fine hazey mist began to surround the Rotom for a brief few seconds, occassionally obscuring it from our view. The ghost type hid inside of the mist that surrounded him as it grew, before it let out a little cackle. Suddenly, the grey mist stopped swirling around Rotom and seemed to freeze mid-air. Rotom gave a slight smirk and inclined his head. The mist shot forward and smacked into Mamoswine, knocking him back slightly, but he rooted his feet into the ground firmly. For a creature so large, Mamoswine had great control over his body and movements. And he proved this yet again as he launched straight into the next move on our agenda: Rock Smash.

Mamoswine charged forward, head bowed and ready to smash into the spectre. But as he approached the mischievous little Pokemon, he stopped abruptly, wary of my warning about how we needed to thread lightly from here on out. He raised a mammoth-like foot (as one expects with a Mamoswine) and dropped it on the Rotom, who winced at the blow. I could see Rotom looked noticeably weaker by this stage, and I realized now would be the best time to attempt a capture.

This became even more apparent as Rotom started to glow a little and I suspected some trouble was about to happen if I didn't make this capture soon. Rotom was quite a tough opponent, and I was getting eager to have it on my team the more that I saw of its battling skills. It was quite clever and cunning, much like my Froslass is, and those are traits that I admired in my Pokemn because it took cunning and skill to overtake the opponent. With Pokemon like Rotom and Froslass, that meant the battle was half over before it had even begun. I already had one Rotom of my own, but surely he was getting lonely. Who wouldn't want a friend that was the same species, and if I could manage to get myself another Secret Ket from the Marketplace, I would be able to make this one whatever form that it wanted to become. Preferably, a toaster though. Toast on the go sounded amazing.

“Rotom is trying to use Pain Split!” Makina informed me, drawing my attention back to the battle once more. “Find a way to break it before the link is complete, or all of this time spent whittling down its health would have been pointless."

"Alright, I think our best bet is to just go for the capture now... and I have just the ball for it. I've been saving this one for a long time, but I think now is our best bet to use it. In fact, we should have quite a high chance of a successful capture thanks to it increasing the chances of a successful capture by about 25%, or so I've been told."

With that, I took the Supreme Ball out of my jacket pocket, and tossed it at the little glowing Pokemon.

James nodded in response, seeing Rotom's action as well. “Alright, I think our best bet is to just go for the capture now... and I have just the ball for it. I've been saving this one for a long time, but I think now is our best bet to use it.”

With those words, James reached deep into his pack and fished out a strange-looking Pokeball. While it still had the same camouflage pattern of a normal Parkball, the sphere's outer rings were blue in color rather than the traditional black or white. As Makina tried to puzzle out just what it was, images of an old Park event came to mind. The capture device was a Supreme Parkball, and they were rarely handed out. Most Trainers held onto them like gems, or used them when they couldn't afford to lose a Pokemon- all in all, fitting for a rare creature like Rotom.

The Parkball soared towards the possessed toaster oven, sucking in the spirit that was hiding in the object in a red beam of light. The sphere fell to the ground in a light clatter, rolling about as the Pokemon within attempted to break free from its prison. Eventually it grew still, signaling a successful capture.

Not bad for a first capture,” Makina remarked, picking up the Parkball and storing it in her pack. “Did you want to rest your team a moment, or want this room out some more?”

After it left my hand, the Supreme Park Ball soared through the air and headed straight towards the possessed toaster. Stopping mid-air for a brief moment, it sucked the Rotom inside before dropping to the ground. The previously animated toaster clattered to the ground, looking just as dusty as it had when we had gotten here. Turning my attention back towards the Supreme Park Ball, I felt a little guilty. This Park Ball had been with me for such a long time that I couldn't imagine not having it. It had always been a safety net in case I was ever in dire need of a capture, and now it would no longer be of such use.

The ball stopped its gentle rolling, and pinged, signalling a successful capture. Even though I would not likely have another Supreme Park Ball ever again, if not for a very long time, it felt good to use it on Rotom. Rotom were incredibly rare and this particular one proved to beworthy of any kind of capsule... even a Master Ball. Makina picked up the ball and addressed me.

“Not bad for a first capture. Did you want to rest your team a moment, or want this room out some more?”

It didn't take long to come to an answer; my Pokemon were strong and able to continue onwards, even without the use of items. If they grew more weathered later on I wouldn't hesitate to use healing items or to take as many necessary breaks, but it didn't seem too necessary right now. After all, we had spent quite a while battling this Rotom and the Park wouldn't be open forever.

"Let's move on and see what else we can find. But first, I have a Porygon disk I want to make use of, provided that's okay."

Taking out the pokeplayer, I inserted the disk and we listened out for a responding cry of another Porygon. Hearing one of its own was sure to draw any nearby Porygon in closer.

Let's move on and see what else we can find,” James replied, digging through his pack once more. He fished out the Pokeplayer again, setting it on the ground as he took out the recorded disk. “But first, I have a Porygon disk I want to make use of, provided that's okay.”

Break a leg,” Makina said, giving a shrug. It was unlikely that any more Pokemon were hiding close by thanks to the racket caused by their fight with Rotom, but there was no reason to not allow James to use his Player just in case. She watched as the Trainer pulled out a new disc, this one properly labeled, and inserted it into the device before hitting play.

Unlike most recordings, which played a short Pokemon cry in a loop, this one let off what sounded like a series of beeps. At first, the Ranger thought the disc was broken, then managed to connect two and two together. The Plant was home to many Pokemon that were more machine than organic, and because of this their cries seemed more mechanical. This one was likely a Porygon or Magnemite, though Makina was leaning towards the former due to their rarity.

After a few moments had passed with no sign of the polyhedral Pokemon, Makina led James further into the main room. There was still a large chunk of the area to explore, so there was a chance that a few of the locals were hiding about. Sure enough, there was the sound of something rummaging through objects coming from one of the larger piles of broken electronics. As they headed in for a closer look, the black and pink striped tail of a Pokemon could be seen poking out of a pile as its owner looked about for some unknown object. The tail had a blue sphere at the end, making identifying the creature easier.

Flaafy, if you're interested,” Makina said, nodding over to the half-buried Electric-type.

The Pokeplayer began to make some beeping sounds after I had inserted the disk and hit the play button. We stood and listened to the noises coming from the voice disk for a few moments before deciding that there were no Porygon in the immediate vicinity and it'd be best to not dally too much and get on our way. We had decided that it'd be best to keep exploring the room that we had battled and captured Rotom in as it appeared as though there was much left undiscovered in this warehouse.

I heard a faint rummaging sound as we drew closer to a large pile of electronics, and I saw a fluffy pink utt sticking out of the pile, completely oblivious to our presence.

“Flaafy, if you're interested,” Makina said, looking at Flaaffy.

"I already have an Ampharos, unfortunately. Let's try and press on. If we can't escape, I'll use the Pokedoll I've had in my bag all along and forgotten to use thus far."

Aleria's face when she saw the email on her PDA saying that she was taking over James' run was probably priceless. Let it be known that she had no problems with the guy. None at all whatsoever. He was a pretty cool guy, actually. She didn't think he was a jerk or anything. Nope, not at all. She just wasn't looking forward to going and running from every Pokemon they encountered. Admittedly, it would be a pretty quick run, but that was besides the point. They could've gotten anyone but her.

Oh well, she couldn't complain too much. She had Pokemon to feed. Her biweekly park salary helped feed her Pokemon, and this run would help do just that. Plus, they'd informed her after she was already at the park doing the ever so dreadful paperwork, so it could've been a lot worse than her mind was making it out to be.

Off to the Power Plant she met, and when she arrived, James was facing a Flaaffy. Her PDA mentioned that he had no interest in the pink electric sheep and that he had an unused Poke Doll that he'd use if he had to. The pink sheep stopped rummaging in the electronics pile long enough to look at Aleria and James, and then it scampered off. "Guess it couldn't find what it was looking for," Aleria commented, sticking her hands in the pockets of her jacket and smiling. "We meet again."

Nodding, she started to lead him to his next encounter. No sense in waiting for a response when they could walk and talk. However, they were forced to come to a sudden stop when a blue lion cub looking Pokemon crossed their path and kept them from going any further. The bottom half of the Pokemon's body was black, and a yellow star like shape sat at the tip of its tail. A quick look at her PDA reminded her that he'd encountered a Shinx before Makina left. "You want a Shinx?"

Makina stopped before we could address the Flaaffy, taking out her phone in the mean time. She made just a few quick one-worded responses to the voice on the other end. She had to go, something rangers were constantly having to do, so I wasn't all that surprised. It'd be alright, though. A new ranger should take her place in juts a few minutes. They were after all always on beck-and-call.

Flaaffy had just uprooted istelf from the heap of scrap metal when Aleria arrived. I recognised her at once, and gave a quick wave, just before turning my attention back towards the fluffy-necked (neck beard???) Flaaffy. The Electric type looked a little startled and scampered off at once, one broken light bulb in each of her hands.

"Guess it couldn't find what it was looking for," Aleria commented, sticking her hands in the pockets of her jacket and smiling. "We meet again."

As we turned around and watched the Flaaffy dart off, we soon encountered the next Pokemon; this one was a little lion cub Pokemon known as Shinx. It looked up at me with big blue eyes and I was reminded of the Luxray that I had owned quite some time ago. Although I hadn't intended on catching a Shinx if I encountered one in the Park, I thought it might actually not be such a bad idea.

"You want a Shinx?" Aleria asked, presuming I'd say no considering how often I fled from encounters throughout our last run.

"I would like to battle it, yeah.... surprisingly enough. Mamoswine, come back out to deal with a new Electric type we want on our team!" I said, tossing his Pokeball in the air once more. Within a split-second, a large wooly mammoth had materialised, looking ready to fight just like he had versus Rotom.

"Shinx is considerably weaker, Mamoswine, so please be very careful with it. Smack it with a not too large Mud Bomb!"

I looked over at the little blue Shinx to try and work out how much damage that Mud Bomb would do. Mamoswine was a Ground type, yes, but he had significantly low special attack and the Ground type move Mud Bomb would receive both a Same Type Attack Bonus boost and the fact that it would be super effective on Shinx. Yet, I didn't think it would knock the Shinx out as the move itself was reasonably low powered, if I recalled correctly, it was around 60 base power, so Shinx didn't have much to fear. That is, nothing more than a gunk of mud to the face that would surely do quite a lot of damage.

The little blue lion cub Pokemon bared his fangs and tucked his head a little lower. He hissed at Mamoswine and startled to waggle his tail, smiling all the while. I wasn't quite sure whether this Shinx was trying to be adorable or intimidating, or maybe it was just trying to look tough when it was actually failing at that and looking pretty darn cutesie.

    ((Gender on Shinx?))

    BP #1

Okay, well, that was a surprise. He'd run from the previous Shinx he'd encountered earlier in his run, yet this one was one he wanted to catch. Maybe he had a change of heart, or maybe he just wanted to fight the Pokemon and attempt to catch it because of all the running they'd done the last time they were together in the park. Whatever it was, Aleria nodded and stepped back to give James and his Mamoswine the space they needed to take on the Shinx, who was ready for battle, growling at the large, brown furred beast before it.

The Shinx puffed up its blue furred chest, standing proudly before the Mamoswine. It let out a huff that left the mammoth Pokemon dazed and confused as James gave him his first command. "A not too large Mud Bomb," James had said, and despite its confusion, Mamoswine was able to gather some mud from inside his body and spit it out at the small lion cub.

Unfortunately for Mamoswine, Shinx was too quick for him. Had Shinx not moved, Mud Bomb would have actually hit it. Since it moved to slam into Mamoswine's body, being forced back to roll in the pile of mud created by Mud Bomb, the attack missed. Once the Shinx steadied itself again, it let out a weak burst of energy that didn't get very far. It dissipated before it could even touch the Mamoswine's fur. Aleria nodded approvingly. "Looks like Shinx is going to have to think fast if it wants to try and deal some damage to your Mamoswine. I think Mud Bomb worked after all, despite not actually hitting your Pokemon. Doesn't look like it's going to be able to use anything Electric-y at all."

Not that it would be of any use for the Shinx to use any Electric type attacks at all. Mamoswine was an Ice and Ground type Pokemon, leaving it immune to any Electric type attacks thrown at it. It was still a good point to make, despite the fact that it was a fairly obvious fact that James probably already knew about.

    @Felly ;

Mamoswine heeded my command and soon began a new Mud Bomb. Much like the one that he had prepared earlier versus the Rotom, the glob of mud and saliva mixed together shot from his cavernous mouth and straight towards the little blue Shinx. The lion cub Pokemon quickly darted out of the way, perhaps using Quick Attack to successfully dodge the glob, letting the sphere of mud smash into the wall behind Shinx. Mud spattered everywhere, including on Shinx's coat and in its eyes.

"Oh great. Not only did the attack not deal any damage to the Shinx, it covered the dumb little lion in brown gloopy saliva mud. When I catch this little bugger I'm gonna have to clean that off," I grumbled.

Shinx, perhaps unaware of Mamoswine's ground typing and natural immunity to Electric type attacks, let forward a little surge of electricity. The sparks rustled Mamoswine's thick fur coat for a brief moment, but the large mammoth Pokemon seemed completely untouched all in all.

"Looks like Shinx is going to have to think fast if it wants to try and deal some damage to your Mamoswine. I think Mud Bomb worked after all, despite not actually hitting your Pokemon. Doesn't look like it's going to be able to use anything Electric-y at all."

"Alright, Mamoswine, let's slow this Shinx down with an Icy Wind and quickly follow up with an Ice Shard. Try not to knock it out though!"

After Mamoswine had attacked, I was going to try my hand at a capture. Shinx was a basic stage Pokemon, and I had to leave the Park quite soon. That much I knew. I figured that I probably didn't have a huge successful chance of capturing it, but it was worth a shot at the very least. My time left in the Park was definitely numbered after all. As Mamoswine released the icy mist from his mouth, and then proced to fire off large icicles at the Shinx, I tossed the Park Ball, and hoped I got lucky.

James was going for a fast plan of action. After he'd given Mamoswine a couple of commands, he was already readying a Park Ball. Aleria raised an eyebrow as the Shinx started to shake his body to try and get some of the mud off of his blue and black fur. It worked a little, but some of the mud was caked onto the lion cub's fur and just refused to come off. At least the little guy could see.

Mamoswine opened his large mouth and blew out some icy blue air, the breath clearly visible in this dark area. Shinx darted head on into the icy breath, unaware it was happening until after it already started to happen, and the little lion club was slowed down considerably. The Quick Attack still hit Mamoswine, but it didn't do nearly as much damage as Shinx would've liked it to. He followed up by turning around and balancing on his front paws to land some kicks onto Mamoswine's body. The mammoth didn't seem to care that much, and shards of ice crashed into the ground near the pair and knocked Shinx away. It was a good thing those attacks had hit when they did though, for Mamoswine stumbled back a little from its confusion.

And that was when James threw the Park Ball.

The ball hit Shinx and absorbed the little guy inside of it for all of maybe thirty seconds before the lion cub popped back out, still caked in mud. The Shinx used his paw to bat it off to the side, and Aleria watched as it rolled dangerously close to that mud pile. Thankfully, it didn't roll into the mud, but it was dangerously close. "It's not in the mud yet, so you might want to be careful. It should still be usable even after it goes into the mud so long as you clean it, but it would be better to be safe than to be sorry here and just get the ball."

I could see that Shinx wasn't quite as weakened as I'd hoped him to be, and the Pokeball didn't seem to be all that effective, releasing Shinx in an instant, but rolling dangerously close to a gloopy pile of mud that could do the ball serious damage, possibly destroying it.

"It's not in the mud yet, so you might want to be careful. It should still be usable even after it goes into the mud so long as you clean it, but it would be better to be safe than to be sorry here and just get the ball."

"That's a good idea," I said. The whole encounter with the mud was making me feel a little unsteady and thought that perhaps I should not try and catch this Shinx in the end. Surely there'd be other Pokemon I wanted. "Actually, let's try and pick up the ball and flee. If we can't escape I have that reserve Pokedoll."

Welp. They were so close, yet so far. For a good minute or so, Aleria was legitimately expecting James to catch the Shinx.

    Oh how wrong she was.

She moved towards the ball, eyes fixated on the Shinx and occasionally glancing over to judge her distance from the ball, and when she was close enough, she picked it up. Clean as it could be and no damage. That was good. James didn't waste a ball. And now it was time for part two: leaving the Shinx. Aleria returned to stand by James, who had readied a Poke Doll in case Shinx decided to be stubborn. She led the way past the Shinx, but when she saw the electricity spark from its body, she froze instantly.

Nope. Nope, nope, nope. Shinx was stubborn. They were not just going to casually run from the Shinx. Then again, if James hadn't just started to battle the little guy and then opt to run from him, they probably wouldn't have been in this situation right now. "Trade you a ball for a doll," she said, handing over the ball and taking the Pikachu shaped doll from James. "Here, Shinx, play with your new doll friend." And with that said, she tossed the doll to the Shinx, and they were on their merry way.

There was a roar from a nearby room, and Aleria led James to it, her mind running through the possibilities of what could be inside.

What was inside had surprised her. The large yellow beast with its black markings, the purple cape, and the jagged blue tail... Aleria's eyes widened at the sight of the beast before her. Its electrical energy made sparks that lit up the room, giving herself and James the light they needed to see. "Whoa... it's a Raikou," she breathed. Shaking her head just a little, she turned to James. "You probably already know this, but you can't catch the Raikou. If you'd like, you can take a picture of it and make some money though." Money was always good, and besides, the picture guaranteed them the escape they would need to get away from this legendary beast. It was a win-win situation.

"Trade you a ball for a doll," Aleria said when the Shinx proved to be stubborn. When we exchange the goods, Shinx became pretty distracted all of a sudden now that he had a new toy to play with, or just something to distract him from the tedious life here.

We kept going, but we didn't get far before a large wildcat-like Pokemon was in our way. He gave a pretty fearsome roar, but all I could mutter was "bitchin'".

"You probably already know this, but you can't catch the Raikou. If you'd like, you can take a picture of it and make some money though."

"It's a shame. Raikou is so badass. I will have one some day. But for now, a picture will do I guess!"

There was a flash as James took a picture of the Raikou. As soon as the beast reoriented itself to its surroundings, it fled, running off into the abyss of the room. Simple enough departure process, and it was a doll saved and money earned. Always a good thing, especially in this day and age when there were Pokemon to teach moves to and not enough money in the world to get the moves for your Pokemon.

Such was the life of a Pokemon trainer.

They exited the room and walked through the halls of the plant until a Raichu darted out of one of the rooms they were passing. The large electric mouse nearly ran into Aleria, but they managed to stop just in time to prevent that collision that could've resulted in sparks flying in the most literal sense possible. Not to mention Aleria was extremely grateful that she didn't have to deal with being electrocuted by Raichu's ability of Static. She turned to James. "Want the Raichu? If not, you can make more money by taking a picture of it. People thrive off these pictures, man."

No sooner than I snapped a picture that Raikou decided it was time to flee. Tucking his tail under his legs metaphorically and figuratively, he fled, leaving us to continue onwards. We stepped out into the hallway and continued walking.

A Raichu darted out of nowhere, nearly colliding into Aleria. That could've ended up badly.

"Want the Raichu? If not, you can make more money by taking a picture of it. People thrive off these pictures, man."

"What kinda freak collects Raichu pictures?" I said, sweating profusely. Aleria didn't know about my Raikou nude calenders that I made a living from. "Let's get another picture!"
