“I’ll do anything except fight that beast of a Golbat,” Jessie said, reaching for her bag. She located her wallet and passed me five hundred, the price of a Pokedoll. I pocketed the change and pulled out a Zubat Pokedoll. I wiggled the doll at Golbat and tossed the toy into an adjacent room.

As the Golbat diverted to go after its prize I led Jessie into another room. This room was one filled with long tables and a few broken vending machines. Sitting on one of the tables was a massive blob of purple sludge. I knew of only one Pokemon like that, Muk, a Pokemon that was my starter. While not particular powerful compared to those top Pokemon, it was a solid Poison type, known for its high attack.

“I don’t suppose you want a Muk?” I asked Jessie.

Jessie sighed in relief when the Golbat flew away, distracted by the simple doll. It made Jessie laugh that, ironically, the terrifying, blood-thirsty bat was satisfied with a toy, yet she was still so afraid of them. She decided to ignore it and continued to follow Gaius through the maze of abandoned rooms.

"I don't suppose you want a Muk?" Gaius asked to Jessie.

Jessie was a little confused. She didn't see a Muk in the first place, so the random question was perplexing. However, after a few moments staring at Gaius with a bewildered face, Jessie followed Gaius' line of sight to see a massive, purple sludge resting on one of the many tables.

"Woah..." Jessie uttered, not having seen a Muk before. "That thing is kind of wierd," Jessie said to herself. "It's a poison-typed pokemon, right? If so, I'm mainly looking for electric-typed pokemon on this run, so I guess let's try and run once more," Jessie concluded.

Jessie looked bewildered when she didn’t spot the Pokemon right away, but eventually she saw what I was looking at.

“Woah, that thing is kind of weird,” she said, more to herself than me. “It’s a Poison typed Pokemon, right? If so, I’m mainly looked for Electric typed Pokemon on this run, so I guess let’s try and run once more.”

I figured she was looking for those Electric types, which seemed to be her passion if the Pokemon she owned where any indication. “No problem, Muk can be a problem to handle anyway, I know because I have one.”

I turned from the cafeteria and started to lead us back through the door we had gone through to get here. I was stopped dead in my tracks when a massive fist of purple slug slammed into the ground in front of me. The arm slowly retracted as I traced it back to its origin. Muk must have taken affront of something because it was now stopping us from leaving.

“Well, crap,” was all I could think of to say.

"No problem, Muk can be a problem to handle anyway, I would know because I have one," Gaius replied to Jessie.

Jessie nodded her head to Gaius and followed her ranger through the cafeteria entrance doors. Jessie was a little confused when she realized that they had just entered through the same way moments ago, and the Golbat might have returned for them, but Jessie figured that Gaius knew what he was doing.

Just before they exited the room and got away from the sludge-like pokemon, it threw a wad of poisonous material, which Jessie later realized to be the pokemon's hand. It apparently had taken a disposition to Jessie escaping, which made her very frustrated.

"C'mon, give me a break!" she exclaimed. She didn't want to fight this pokemon either, especially since she didn't have a pokemon that would be effective against it. "Here, I guess I'll have to get another pokedoll," Jessie sighed, pulling out another 500 dollars and handing them to Gaius.

“C’mon! Give me a break!” Jessie exclaimed, clearly exasperated with the direction this park run was taking. I could sympathize with that, I remembered my first Park Run, which happened to be a disaster both with the Pokemon I caught, and the amount of money I had spent on Pokedolls.

“Here, I guess I’ll have to get another Pokedoll.” She reached for her wallet and pulled out another wad of cash for the doll. I pocketed the amount and pulled out a Pichu toy. I took the toy and tossed it underhand at Muk. The Muk caught the doll with a thick hand and placed the doll on its gooey body. As the plush toy slowly started to sink into Muk’s body I knew the time was right for us to leave.

I lead us out of the cafeteria and back into the hallway where the Golbat had assaulted us for a second time. There was a couple of rooms ahead of us, or we could go down a path that would lead us to the labs.

I decided that we should head for the labs first, more powerful Pokemon tended to head there first. I started down that corridor and continued on for about fifty feet before a flash of pink in an door stopped me. A Pokemon was standing in the doorway looking out. It was a Flaffy.

“There is an Electric Pokemon right there, if you’re interested,” I said to Jessie, not sure if she wanted to capture this Pokemon since it wasn’t the first evolution stage but the second.

Jessie was slightly disgusted when she saw the Muk entirely engulf the Pichu doll. After a very disturbing mental image, Jessie was trying not to imagine how she might have fared if she tried to fight with her pokemon, especially if she had decided to catch the Pichu from before. Jessie quickly ran after Gaius, trying her hardest to avoid the poison typed pokemon.

Once they had made it back to where they had encountered the Golbat for the second time, Jessie was on the look out for the exact same pokemon. It wouldn't have been too surprising if the Golbat had stuck around, so Jessie cautiously walked through the room. However, once Jessie saw that Gaius was leading her to an entirely new area, she released her tension and followed like she normally would.

After walking through the new passage, Jessie spotted the Flaafy, just like Gaius had.

"There's an electric pokemon there, if you're interested," Gaius said, gesturing to the pink, woolly pokemon in front of them.

Though Jessie was looking mainly for electric pokemon, she already had an Ampharos, the evolved form of Flaafy. It would seem illogical if Jessie were to pick up another one, especially if its prevolution was such a commonly available pokemon.

"I think I'll try and run away from this one as well. I already have an Ampharos," Jessie explained.

“I think I’ll try and run away from this one as well,” Jessie responded. “I already have an Ampharos.”

Good choice, no need to waste space and money on a Pokemon you had unless it was a really good Pokemon. That said, we now were presented with the problem of getting past the Flaffy without it coming after us. Luckily, the Flaffy decided to do something else because it backed away from the doorway and entered the room, leaving us in the hallway.

We continued walking along the hallway and entered the break room, where a small Elekid was playing on some empty lockers in a corner. Elekid were known to be feisty and energetic Pokemon, and this one was living up to that stereotype.

“You have an Elekid or one of its evolvers?”

I wouldn’t be surprised if she had one, since she was a collector and Elekid was a pretty common Pokemon. I had one, but I pretty much never used it because I tended to use Lanturn or Rotom-Wash if I needed an Electric type, and that was because they were dual types.

Jessie smiled when the Flaffy turned around; Jessie's luck had been pretty bad so far with pokemon refusing to run away. In fact, the Flaffy was the only pokemon that had ran away in the entire run.

Jessie followed Gaius down the hallway, carefully looking for pokemon that got too close. She didn't see any that even approached them until they entered the break room.

Jessie spotted the Elekid was playing with some of the emptied lockers. As far as Jessie could tell, it hadn't even noticed that she was there, so Jessie walked carefully and quietly with Gaius.

"You have an Elekid or one of its evolvers?" Gaius asked to Jessie.

Jessie shook her head. "No, I don't," she said, "but I do remember somebody offering me an Elekid in the pokemart for a fairly cheap price. I would rather adopt one than steal one from its habitat, if I can," Jessie explained.

“No, I don’t,” she responded quietly, “but I do remember somebody offering me an Elekid in the Pokemart for a fairly cheap price. I would rather adopt one than steal on from its habitat, if I can.”

I nodded and added, “That’s exactly how I got my own Elekid, for a fairly cheap price.”

I turned to look at the Elekid and frowned on how to get past it. Going back down the way we had come from wasn’t exactly on my agenda, we had already been there and I wanted to see some Pokemon that Jessie was actually interested in. That meant going forward, meaning we had to get past the Elekid without it spotting us and coming over.

I cautioned Jessie to keep it quiet and started to move forward slowly. We had just managed to make it halfway across the room when I heard the Elekid cry out in outrage. I turned to see the Elekid looking at us, electricity sparking around it. Elekid were known to be pretty energetic, but they also had a mean streak that sometimes showed.

It bunched its fists and bounded over to us, clearly unhappy with us being there and ready to fight. Once it was a couple of feet from us it stopped and started to shout angrily at us.

I listened to the rant for a couple of seconds and sighed in defeat. “Another doll or battle.”

Jessie nodded towards Gaius, following her across the break room. She sidestepped her way around a table, careful not to bump into it and alarm the Elekid. Just like Gaius knew, Jessie was sure that the Elekid would go into a rampage if it spotted the two travelers.

When Jessie was about half-way through the room, closely behind Gaius, the Elekid turned around and glared at Jessie. It bounded over to them, which managed to scare Jessie. Even though the Elekid was a rather small pokemon, its ferocity was a force to be reckoned with. Not only this, but Jessie didn't have a pokemon, or even a move, for that matter, that would be very effective against the Elekid.

Jessie sighed when she pulled out another 500 dollars from her wallet. "Another doll, I guess," she said.

Jessie seemed tragically dejected as she pulled out another wad of cash. I took her money and threw a Pokedoll at the Electric Pokemon to calm it down. Elekid took the doll and seemed mollified with out gift. It clutched the Squirtle toy tightly to its chest, turned on its heel, and stalked away, head held high.

I shook my head at the Pokemon and turned to Jessie. “Sorry for your bad luck. Certain areas of the National Park tend to run into bad Pokemon sometimes. Looks like it might be that today, but I have a feeling we’ll run into something really soon.”

I led her through the room and into the one beyond it, the decontamination room, for the scientists who formerly worked here to get into gear if needed or to show their identification cards. It was a nondescript room, just with a small desk on the right, a window showing a workroom on the left, and a door directly ahead.

Sleeping on the desk was a blue and black cat-like creature. It was one of the more common Pokemon from the region of Sinnoh, a Shinx. Shinx was a common Electric type that evolved into Luxray.

“Don’t you already have one of those?” I murmured quietly to the girl at my side.

"I sure hope so. I'm definitely in need of a strong, electric pokemon," Jessie replied. "I've been looking for a while, and it would be a shame for this trip to go to waste."

Jessie followed Gaius through the decontamination room, where she spotted the sleeping Shinx passed out on a desk.

"Don't you already have one of those?" Gaius whispered to Jessie.

"Yeah, I have a Luxray," Jessie sighed. "I don't want to wake it, though. Let's stick to the left side of the room and get out of here as fast as we can."

“Yeah, I have a Luxray,” she said, once again disappointed by the Pokemon that had come up. “I don’t want to wake it, though. Let’s stick to the left side of the room and get out of here as fast as we can.”

I nodded wordlessly and looked towards the door on the far side of the room. That was the only way forward, and going back would just take more time. I took in a deep breath and hoped the Pokemon didn’t decide to come after us. I had just reached the other side of the room when I heard a scratching sound.

I felt my hope drop and turned to see the Shinx scratching its claws on the top of the desk and staring at us intently. Another Pokemon had decided it wanted to fight us. I looked over at Jessie and waited for her to make a move.

Jessie had followed Gaius closely and silently, trying as hard as possible not to disturb the sleeping pokemon. Not only did she not want to wake the Shinx, but she didn't particularly want to fight it either.

Much like Gaius, Jessie heard the scratching noise just as she was about to escape from the pokemon. Jessie quietly turned around in place to see that she had, despite all of her efforts, woken the Shinx, who now was preparing to attack.

"Oh, come on!" Jessie exclaimed, obviously frustrated that she had woken the Shinx. She was not having the best of luck on her trip through the Power Plant, which made her very upset.

"You're really stealing all my money, aren't you?" Jessie said to Gaius sarcastically. She pulled out her wallet and slipped yet another 500 dollars to Gaius, muttering to herself as she did.

Jessie’s mood was worsening, clearly. “Oh, come! You’re really stealing all my money, aren’t you?”

I shrugged sheepishly as there was nothing I could say to appease her. It wasn’t my fault the Pokemon were poor, but I was the only one she could direct her ire at. I took it stoically and threw a Pichu toy at the Shinx, who immediately pounced on it like a kitten. As the Electric Pokemon struggled with the doll I led us through the doll.

We were finally in the labs, a large room full of computers and other equipment I couldn’t recognize. Playing in a jumble of wires off to our right was a small Pokemon that resembled a Pichu, except for the coloring and the markings on it.

It was a Minun, another Electric type Pokemon, one that wasn’t really strong, but more of a team Pokemon. I didn’t think Jessie would want the Pokemon, but it could never hurt to ask.

    “You want the Minun?”

Once Jessie saw Gaius shrug, she immediately felt bad for saying what she did. Sure, she had been aggravated that the pokemon weren't behaving like Jessie had wanted them to, but there was nothing that Gaius could do about it. The only things that could be done about it were all up to Jessie, and she had lashed out on Gaius, which was unfair and cruel.

Nonetheless, Jessie didn't say anything. Even if the opportunity had risen, Jessie wouldn't exactly know how to respond in a situation like this. Usually, Jessie never felt the need to apologize. For some reason, today was different. Maybe it was a combination of lack of sleep, lack of cooperative pokemon, or countless other factors. She pushed it out of her mind and continued on following Gaius.

"You want the Minun?" Gaius asked.

It took Jessie a minute to find where the pokemon was, but, when she did, her hopes fell once more. Minun, again, was a common pokemon. Something that many electric typed trainers had. If Jessie was going to go for the Nimbasa City Gym Leader Position, she would need something more helpful.

"No, thanks. Let's try to run from it again," Jessie sighed.

Jessie sighed again and said, “No thanks. Let’s try to run from it again.”

Once again, I wasn’t surprised by her choice, but I was hoping we would run into something she wanted. We were just over a third of the way through and we had found nothing she wanted. Granted we could still find something, but that window was closing rapidly. I really hoped something rare or powerful would show up.

“Well, I don’t think running would be a good choice in this situation, but we can try to go around it,” I said after a moment.

Before we could move though there was a small pop where the Minun was and the little Pokemon came flying towards us. It landed right in front of us and jumped up, chattering angrily to itself, no doubt upset by what had happened. Its ears perked up and the Pokemon turned to us.

It looked at us and its cheeks started to sparkle with little bolts of electricity. I rolled my eyes at the little Pokemon and looked at Jessie.

OOC: Just noticed that Lanturn's ability is Water Absorb, when it should be Volt Absorb, seeing as I hadn't unlocked its DW ability at the beginning of the run.

    IC:

“Well, I don’t think running would be a good choice in this situation, but we can try to go around it,” Gaius advised.

After contemplating it for a moment, Jessie knew that she had to agree with Gaius. Running probably wouldn't be the smartest idea, especially since the Minun was so much faster than Jessie. If Jessie had disturbed the Minun, it could easily catch up, so running would only draw more attention to themselves.

Following Gaius' advice, Jessie slowly sidestepped to draw the least amount of attention to herself. However, in a flash, the Minun had disappeared from its previous spot and had appeared in front of the pair. It seemed very angry, though the reason behind its rage confused Jessie. Nonetheless, she knew that messing with an angry pokemon wouldn't be the brightest idea.

"Alright, I'll pay you," Jessie sighed to Gaius as she pulled out her wallet. However, as she peered inside the folds of her wallet, she spotted no more cash. "Oh no," Jessie muttered to herself as she tucked her wallet back into her bag.

"Just kidding, I'm taking this thing on!" Jessie exclaimed. "Go, Lanturn!" Jessie shouted as she tossed her pokeball into the air. Moments later, a blue and yellow angler fish appeared, the light hanging over its head pulsing. With its scarlet irises, the floating pokemon stared the small, mouse-like pokemon down, growling slightly as it did.

"We might want to step back," Jessie warned Gaius. "My Lanturn is a pretty violent brawler, so she might not always hit her target," Jessie explained. Following her own advice, Jessie took a few steps back, making sure she was safely out of the pokemon's range.

OOC2: I had a small question for you as well; EM's stay like they were at the beginning, right? So my Lanturn, which now has HP Flying and TM Ice Beam, cannot have them throughout the course of the run?

OOC: @Princess Crow | Nope, you can only use the moves you entered the park with.

Jessie sighed and reached for her wallet. “Alright, I’ll pay you.” She rummaged through her wallet, but came up empty, she had already spent all her money. “Oh no,” she muttered softly. She replaced her wallet and reached for a Pokeball. “Just kidding, I’m taking this thing on!” she blurted a moment later.

She only had two Pokemon with her, so it was pretty easy to guess which Pokemon she would send out, Lanturn. Lanturn was a Water and Electric type with the ability of Volt Absorb, enabling it to absorb Electric attacks.

“You might want to take a step back,” she cautioned me. “My Lanturn is a pretty violent brawler, so he might not always hit her target.”

That was an unusually nature for a Lanturn, they were considered a gentle species, but there was always Pokemon who didn’t conform to the norm of everything. I didn’t believe the Lanturn would have too much trouble with this Pokemon, but battles could be very fluid in nature.

"Okay, let's get this thing over with!" Jessie exclaimed as she put on a more intent gaze. The pokemon in front of her and her Lanturn would be difficult to take out; while the pokemon was relatively weak, Lanturn had very few non-electric based moves, which could prove troublesome for taking out the mouse-like pokemon.

"Start us off with a Hydro Pump, Lanturn!" Jessie shouted to her pokemon. Hydro Pump was a very strong water typed move, and, while it wouldn't be super effective against the opponent, it was still a very strong move that could deal some serious damage to the Minun.

Listening to its trainer's command, the Lanturn began charging up a strong current of water inside of her mouth. Her eyes flashed an azure blue before she released the strong stream of water, aimed directly at the Minun.
