(ooc:I didn't use pain split, I used take down but i'll roll with it, I have an entirely different idea of pain split that I will still use)
    ---------------------------------------------
The Scizor and Team Forretress Two eyed each other off; the pain split had modified the battle and it was once again any Pokémon’s battle. I settled down to watch the fight. Siless was getting pretty edgy and had stopped really paying attention to what was going on.

I didn’t really blame him; a horde of cheering Scyther is really no less intimidating than a horde of angry Scyther. I however was focusing on what Team Forretress two was doing, which just happened to be another reckless charge, this one had a slightly different bent to it however. It was more forceful and there seemed to be nothing but determination emanating from Team Forretress Two.

The watching Scyther pride pulled back in unison as they saw which attack was being used, they knew that this would hurt both Pokémon and that sparks would fly, they didn’t want to be involved when this attack hit.

Alonso was wincing before the Scizor had even noticed what was coming. Take Down is well known for hurting the user as well as the target of the attack, an effect known as recoil.

I could only pray that Team Forretress Two wouldn’t be too injured to keep on fighting.

I also knew that this attack would leave him off guard and therefore prayed that the Scizor wouldn’t be able to seize the advantage.

One of the big disadvantages of no longer really being involved in the battle was that I started to fidget - a lot! I was stroking Pokéballs incessantly almost like I was going to make a switch, but I knew that I wouldn't, not only was there no need, It would undermine the trust that had been built between Team Forretress Two and myself. I had to let him dictate what he wanted to do if I was going to catch this Scizor.

I looked around the clearing and noticed that apart from the rather large Scyther pride, a wide variety of other wild Pokémon species had been summoned by the sounds of the ensuing battle, it seemed that half the woods were watching the battle, Pokémon as useless as Weedle sat next to some of the greatest battling Pokémon around, such as a fearsome Nidoking.

I was amazed that a battle which I was involved in had drawn such a gigantic crowd, I’d never seen this many humans attending a battle except perhaps that free for all that Husnain had hosted in outer Hell earlier this year (Pidge’s Forum Free for all), not even for a championship challenge yet here was I, a humble Gym leader performing in front of one of the largest crowds I had ever seen at any battle.

This sight set my heart pounding; I couldn’t believe that I was a showcase; maybe the Scizor was well renowned in the forest. Whilst this attack wasn’t exactly going to define the battle, the crowd watching and the overall importance meant that every attack was going to be crucial in the overall scheme of things, or at least, would be crucial in the impression I gave.

Some Pokémon seemed disappointed that I was still using a stall Pokémon but there was undeniable logic behind it, the longer the battle, the greater my chances of actually catching something were, and that was my only reason for entering the park. I think most trainers shared my views on this though.

The park was a place where you could catch almost anything you wanted if you had the skill and patience, though a little bit of money did not go astray. I personally did not think I did but if I managed to catch the Scizor I was currently fighting, I would have almost irrefutable proof that I could prosper in the national park.

Prospering in the national park would mean money and good Pokémon, something every half decent trainer will almost kill to get their hands on. Strong Pokémon are insanely useful in battle and money can only make your Pokémon stronger through items such as Technical Machines and Hidden Machines as well as other elective moves.

I was almost salivating at the thought of using a swords dance bullet punch Scizor, it’s effectively the most useful attack in the world of Pokémon battling, if you can set it up correctly, and I was sure that with just a little practice, I would be able to.

Scizor also has the quite nifty attribute of only being weak to fire, nothing else can really be guaranteed of killing one.

I was also reasonably confident that I was approaching the stage where throwing a Pokéball might actually have a chance of capturing the Scizor. I could sense in my heart that this battle was nearing its completion.

I knew that I was approaching the point where a successful capture was actually physically possible, if quite unlikely. This wouldn’t stop me going on the offensive and trying to physically weaken the Scizor before I would try and catch it.

If only it were possible to poison steel type Pokémon. This was probably the first situation in my life where I wished such a thing were possible, normally I gave thanks to the fact and let my steel type do the talking against poison types.

Meater was especially useful against poison, or so I’d found. Super effective offense and an immunity to an enemy Pokémon’s most liked mode of offence is never a bad thing, it can make a battle that much easier.

    BP#13 (Vs. Scizor Post 11)

Forretress charged towards the Scizor once more. The resulting clash hurt my ears, and apparently the Scyther pride's as well; they stopped cheering for a time. It's only at this point I noticed that there were many other Pokémon watching the fight, but most were safely hidden in the undergrowth.

Forretress looked more stunned than hurt from the Take Down; Scizor took a good amount of damage, but it was still moving. It charged to the stunned Forretress, smacking it twice with its claws and knocking it into the air. I thought Forretress would hit the ground hard, but it instead began hovering by rotating at high speeds, seeing if it could get an advantage due to its height...

I was extremely pleasantly surprised to see Team Forretress two start to hover in the air after taking a hit like the one it had. I was thankful that its body had this aerodynamic property; most Pokémon would be incapable of this feat due to their body shapes and the laws of physics.

I now had an interesting dilemma, it was physically possible to catch the Scizor at this point of the battle, but I had to weigh up the chances of actually doing so before actually trying to do anything. I could call Team Forretress Two off the attack and throw a hyper ball, Let team Forretress two attack then throw a hyper ball, or sit back and see what happened, the later choice was looking like the best for now.

I was sitting there weighing up options; I doubted my chances of a straight capture were very high, even with a hyper ball. So I still had two options to choose between. As I was tossing up between these options, Team Forretress Two started to move. I was expecting another take down and I had predicted correctly. Team Forretress Two move to a position directly above the Scizor, who looked up in confusion. What Team Forretress two was doing could only be described as “unconventional.”

The Scyther started to make noise again, seeing a new tactic being employed, and not just a new tactic for the battle, but rather, something they had never seen before. The other forest Pokémon obviously had a different view of things. They had loved the last hit and had gone silent, waiting for something interesting to happen.

That was when Team Forretress Two stopped spinning and plummeted out of the sky, using gravity to fuel a take down attack. Whether or not this hit the Scizor, falling out of the sky from such a great height could not be healthy and would Hurt Team Forretress Two.

I crossed my fingers and began to pray as Team Forretress Two came tumbling out of the sky. The incessant noise surrounding us picked up once more as something completely unexpected happened. The Scizor looked dumbfounded at first before it started to move, I wasn’t sure it would get out of the way in time though, Team Forretress two was pretty damn close at that point in time.

During the fall, I had been transfixed, my heart was beating at a million miles per hour and everything seemed to be moving in slow motion, I could see speed blur on Team Forretress two, and the Scizor seeming to take forever to even look up. I could see the Scyther pride jumping up and down, though I thought that they might stop when we heard the sound of scraping metal in a few seconds time. The urge to throw a hyper ball was quite strong but I resisted for now.

    BP#14 (Vs. Scizor Post 12)

Forretress fell, using its height to its advantage for a powerful Take Down. By now I had blocked out the Scyther's noise; all I sensed was the battle. Forretress was moving in a blur, and Scizor appeared to just be staring at it. At the last moment however, I saw it jump.

Scizor and Forretress crashed in mid-air, just above the ground, but Scizor didn't have enough power behind it to change Forretress's course. Forretress, however, wasn't prepared for the sudden change in impact, and though it hit Scizor hard, it seemed to have taken a good amount of damage itself. As they impacted, a cloud of dust rose from the battlefield, blocking our view...

As the dust cleared, I could see Scizor sitting in a small crater in the middle of the battlefield.. it seemed stunned, but was in very good condition considering that it was the one whose crashing made that crater. Forretress was nearby, also stunned. It seemed to have taken a good amount of damage from the ordeal, but that's what it was designed to do. I doubt it had any real problems; it was just dizzy and a bit more tired than it was before.

Two pokemon sat on the ground stunned. Team Forretress Two sat there in a moderate state of disarray. The Scizor on the other hand looked shot. It was in better state than one would expect for a living being that had just left a hole in the ground.

In fact, I’d never seen anything leave a hole that large in the ground and come out looking that good. If the Scizor could indeed leave that ginormous a hole in the ground and come out in such a state, the surely it would make an extremely awesome addition to my line up.

This battle had been a contest of the steel bugs, the only one not present being the legendar, pokemon gensect, which had never been seen in the national park anyway.

My information on genesect was fairly sparse anyway and I wasn’t even completely sure of its typing. One thing I did know about this battle however was that forretress and Scizor optimize different strategies for battling. Forretress was a defence powerhouse whereas nothing can land a hard attack faster than scizor can.

Nothing beats Sciozr in a fast fight, but i had not let this battle be a fast fight, I had made its slow and tiring, playing into the hands of Team Forretress Two. Both pokemon were sitting on the ground stunned and I was not going to let this excellent opportunity to capture the scizor go to waste.

I place my right hand in the right hand pocket of my jeans, an entirely natural motion; next I slowly withdrew the hand. Contained within this hand was a pokeball, but not just any pokeball. Rather, my right hand now contained a hyper ball, the most efficient type of pok’eball for capturing pokemon. There was no question of its efficiency. The one thing I was missing in my quest for the ultimate capture rate was a frozen opponent, but the chances of actually freezing something in battle are exceedingly low.

The next best option would have been a sleeping Scizor, that however, was not going to happen as i had no pokemon capable of sending the scizor to sleep, at least, not any that I could think of off the top of my head.

A burn would also have been a nice thing to have done to the scizor but there was no way i could burn the wild pokemon without killing it in the process.

Toxic poison wasn’t an option, nor was regular poison because a scizor is immune to such things, it was one of the reasons it was so useful in battle.

The Scizor still had more health than I would have liked as well but the damage done to it in my last attack suggested that it was perhaps not the best idea to attack again, maybe a few rapid spins would be safe but using take down again was not.

As such, still holding my hyper ball, i called out to team Forretress Two, “Whatever happens now, the only attack you can use from now on is pain split, and do not use it yet!”

Team forretress Two would not jeopardise the game plan at this late stage, it knew the importance such a pokemon would have on our gym team.

With the scizor still sitting in the crater, not moving, the scythe pride were obviously getting worried though Siless seemed oblivious to this fact. The wild pokemon watching the battle seemed to edge closer, they knew that something big was about to happen.

My heart was beating rapidly, I pulled my arm behinf my back, then i let fly. My arm coming up over my head in a graceful arc. There was only one problem with the throw, i’d forgotten to uncurl my fingers and actually release the ball.
I looked down at my hand in disbelief, nobody actually forgot to let go of the ball they were throwing, except it seemed, me.

That is how big a moment this was for me, a chance to catch a scizor and make my gym team that much better. I would be undeatable, ok, maybe not unbeatable but i would be much stronger.

For a second time i lined up the scizor and moved my arm in an overhand motion, this time however, I uncurled my fingers at the top of my range of motion, the hyper ball flew true, opened up and let out a small red beam, Scizor was sucked inside and the hyper ball began to rock, once, twice, three times...

OOC: Please don't say the ball hit the target; it's still a capture attempt without saying that, but having the ball hit it is similar to having it hit by an attack, since that's a big influence in the battle, if that makes sense. Almost had the capture though.

    BP#15 (Vs. Scizor Post 13)

The Hyper Ball smacked the Scizor and opened up, converting it into a sphere of energy before closing around it. The ball hit the ground and rolled into the crater; once it stopped, it shook twice before shooting open. Scizor still had a bit of energy to fight with, and it wasn't going to let Ryan capture it without giving its all; it had its honor to defend. It kicked the ball back towards us before continuing on with the fight. I don't think it wanted to inconvenience him, even by breaking the ball that tried to capture it. It was just trying to fight. I picked up the ball, which had landed at my feet. I was ready to pass it to Ryan whenever he needed it, but I didn't want to interrupt his concentration to do so until he asked.

And fight it did. Scizor once again reached out to its Forretress opponent, smacking it with its claws. Forretress was knocked out of range, but Scizor didn't seem able to charge towards it; I saw sparks of electricity coursing through its legs. It seemed that the residual electricity from the Zap Cannon at the beginning of the battle was weaker, but at the same time, it was still strong enough to keep it stationary.

    OOC:sorry
    --------------------------------
So the Scizor still had some fight in it, that didn’t make me as unhappy as some may have thought. The fact that it had returned my hyper ball made me one rather happy camper. One catch attempt down and I hadn’t even lost a Pokéball. It was almost as if the Scizor actually wanted to be caught, that struck me, maybe it was sick of dealing with that rowdy Scyther, maybe it actually did want to be caught.

Still, the was absolutely no way that I’d count my chickens before they had hatched, and at this point, they were nowhere near hatching. Or maybe that was the problem, My chicken, in this case a Scizor, had hatched when I didn’t want it to. It really depended on you point of view I supposed.

After the Scizor had thrown my hyper ball back, it had landed at Siless’ feet. He had picked it up and was still holding it, obviously not wanting to interrupt what I was doing.

I was too excited to speak and Team Forretress Two knew what I would do next, so I simply held my hand out to Siless, he rushed forward and placed the hyper ball in my hand. I had a sudden masochistic urge to attempt to flee from battle before I once again flung a hyper ball at a stationary Scizor.

This was something I had been almost unable to believe, both attempts at a catch had been me throwing a ball at a stationary Pokémon.

OOC: who witnessed the last capture attemp cos it isn't in the capture roll log?

OOC:...your roll luck was rather bad here.

    BP#16 (Vs. Scizor Post 14)

Scizor deflected the Hyper Ball back at Ryan; the ball never even got the chance to draw Scizor in. This time, Scizor was more than ready to fight back. The electricity surrounding its legs was less damaging at this point; it just appeared to make the Scizor glow a bit rather than slow it down. The metal bug moved quickly to the Forretress, followed by its glow, and made a swift cutting motion. The defensive effects on Forretress shattered for an instant at the point of impact, though the protection reformed once the attack was finished. Scizor wasn't going to go down without a fight.

Forretress looked visibly wounded, and there wasn't much energy between it and Scizor. Forretress probably could not take another hit from Scizor without recovering health, except maybe for half of a Double Hit or a Night Slash that didn't crush through its Iron Defense boosts. I don't think Scizor wanted to knock Forretress out, but from watching it, I knew its own honor was too important to lose, and it would attack to down Forretress if it had to.

This time the hyper ball came back and landed directly at my feat. I knew that the two Pokémon involved in the battle were quite exhausted, I also knew that Team Forretress Two could not survive another hit, at least, not yet.

This however could be solved, and in the process, it would further weaken the Scizor. I called out to team Forretress two, “Go for, one more pain split.”

Team Forretress Two waited a few seconds before his entire body stopped moving, then, a ghostly image of him started to appear above his body. Team Forretress two was now embroiled in a battle of willpower. He just had to tear the Scizor’s soul from her body. From there, an energy transfer could occur, The Scizor and Team Forretress two would be on equal energy if Team Forretress Two could get a black line of psychic energy to bridge the gap between the two souls, assuming Scizor’s soul even left its body.

I didn’t really care about the ongoing struggle though..I figured I may as well take another shot at catching the Scizor..When Team Forretress two settled down into it’s body again, I threw a hyper ball.

Scizor didn't have the energy to struggle anymore after that Pain Split; the ball locked as soon as it closed around the steel-type, finalizing the capture. Seeing what happened, the Scyther and the other spectating Pokémon dispersed back to their own lives.

I walked up to the locked Hyper Ball and picked it up; I'd hold onto Scizor until Ryan was ready to sign out of the park, as he couldn't use it in the park until he confirmed it as one of his three he's taking out upon leaving. As I turned around after grabbing it, though, a Meowth stepped up. It seemed to have been drawn by the huge battle that just took place, and it didn't seem to want to leave.

"Interested in this little kitty Ryan?" I wasn't expecting to run into a Pokémon so soon, but at least then we wouldn't have to use up our energy actively search for them.

As nice as Meowth are, and as much as I’ll probably regret this, I’m going to have to pass on Meowth. In fact, I think I’ll probably leave the park now so I can come back in once they release the black and white mons.

So, I’ll claim both my Slakoth and my hard won Scizor, thank you very much Siless for helping me through my first fumbling park run and helping me achieve my goal for the park so quickly and painlessly.
