    BP#3 (Vs. Scizor Post 1)

Scizor braced itself against the ground.. I could see the electrical pulses traveling down its armored shell, discharging harmlessly into the ground. It stood up, but it made no sign of trying to go on the offensive; Scizor instead began to glow a light blue and a lustrous coat enveloped its whole body. Rays of sunlight bounced off of its armor, lighting up the corners of the grove covered by the forest's shadows.

"You're probably going to have to weaken this thing first. It didn't get to evolve by relying on brute force; it knows how to use status moves as well."

Scizor seemed to be waiting for a response from its opponent. It seemed to have some interest in the trainer approaching their grounds; it gave a second bow as if the battle hadn't started yet. Scizor was waiting for either Ryan to prove himself, or for a chance for it to prove itself to Ryan...

The Scyther started talking amongst themselves.. I didn't understand them; Sela, my Gardevoir, was the one that usually translated the wild Pokémon, but she hadn't slept well the night before, so she was resting in her ball until she was ready. I remained focused on the Scyther, however. I figured that if I watched their expressions, I may get a good idea of what was going on...

Scizor caught a beam of light on its lustrous armor and flashed it towards us, letting us know it was waiting for Ryan to make his move.

Watching the Scizor signal me to keep attacking was frustrating, but I did have to be thankful that it hadn’t attacked back. It looked to me like my current plan wasn’t going to work. I wasn’t too worried though, i had several other plans up my sleeve, now I just had to decide which one to use.

I decided to try paralysis again, this time however, I was going to go about the method quite differently. The fact that the Scizor was sitting there bracing for a physical attack just made my life that little bit easier. I’d figured that pain might weaken its focus.

The wild Scyther conversing interested me; they knew what was going on in much more detail than I could, what bothered me was that I couldn't understand them and I didn't want to do anything that could send the wrong impression, such as sending out a second pokémon to do my talking for me, or at least, my translating. The problem with a defensive boost to the Scizor was apparent to me however, I could easily find myself stuck in a position where I couldn’t beat it.

What really worried was the fact that the Scizor could start working on building up its offensive power at any time. Whilst I had Pokémon that would be able to resist it, the effort required to do so and land useful attacks would be taxing. I therefore knew that I had to do some damage early.

I knew therefore that I had to hit with my next planned offensive attack, unfortunately, what I was about to attempt was wildly inaccurate. I therefore called out to Maggie, “Your next attack has to hit, Use lock-on!”

Maggie, hearing me, let its eyes begin to turn crimson; they grew darker with every passing second, slowly moving through to maroon. Slowly a maroon cloud that was rather insubstantial began to form around the Scizor. The odds of my next attack hitting had just risen almost immeasurably and that fact brought a smile to my face. Now only the actions of the Scizor could prevent damage at the very least being done. I knew however that if this move was fruitless, it would be time to move onto another Pokémon from my party.

Now it was time for the most powerful and inaccurate attack a Magnezone could learn, in fact, it was the most powerful and inaccurate of any electric attack bar Thunder when there are no clouds to be found.

“Maggie, It’s time to paralyse this beastly thing, You’ve locked on, now hit it with Zap Cannon and hope the pain will prevent it passing the current into the ground harmlessly.” I crossed my fingers in hope, my toes too for that matter.

First, Maggie’s entire body began to glow red with heat as the current built, this was going to be a big attack. Next, sparks began jumping between Maggie’s magnets as was expected. What happened next however told me that Maggie was putting in the extra yards on this one. Sparks began to crackle across Maggie’s entire body.

The Scyther on the other side of the clearing looked alarmed and a few quickly began to scamper back. I myself was forced to scurry back a few paces; one thing that worried me was grass catching fire.

As the burst of electricity went thundering toward the Scizor, I quickly grabbed the Pokéball that was sitting to the left of Maggie’s, this ball contained Meater, my Metagross. If there was a fire, Meater could use Ice Punch to put it out, grabing the ball of course meant that I had to uncross my fingers, at least the attack was going in the correct general direction.

Scizor felt the Magnezone scanning it.. It knew something big was coming, and it would be near impossible to avoid.

The metal bug faded in and out of my sight, alternating between approaching its magnetic opponent and avoiding it. It was demonstrating its speed.. it knew something was coming, given the Lock On and failed paralysis attempt, and it was preparing for the worst before it had to strike. As Maggie's Zap Cannon charged, Scizor appeared and disappeared more quickly.

Electricity cackled around the Magnezone.. I only just realized how much energy it was capable of storing. Once it was ready, it fired at the blindingly fast Scizor.

Despite its speed, Scizor took a direct hit; it didn't seem to faze it too much, however, though it did lose a good bit of its speed. Most of the energy seemed to have been grounded by Scizor again, though I could still see electricity pulsing throughout its body. It was definitely paralyzed, but with the Agility up the only real effect would be the occasional full Paralysis...

Scizor clanked its claws together several times. At first it seemed like a taunt, but with it bowing to its opponent earlier, it seemed too polite for that.. It seemed to have more fighting spirit after doing so, though...

Watching the Scizor get faster and faster was just plain scary, thankfully, the lock-on meant I was unlikely to miss.

Once again the electricity thundered across the clearing towards the Scizor, I watched it score a direct hit and my mouth once again twitched into a smile. Seeing the Scizor twitch as the current injured it just made me happier. This time I had wounded it and not only that, its massive speed boost was gone, though it was no slower than it originally was.

It did however look to me as if there was a slight chance that the Scizor would unable to attack at all on occasion. There was no way that could be considered a bad thing. The next phase of my plan would have to come into action. Right now, I was longing for a Pokémon with Will-O-Wisp. Not having such a Pokémon, It was time for the long, slow journey to low hit points for Team Forretress Two, my Forretress.

The man I’d gotten it off had an entire team of numbered Forretress, hence3 the stupid nickname.

I placed my right hand on the left hand side of my belt in order to clip Meater’s ball back in. Meater still had a chance of being involved in this battle, but it wasn’t going to happen yet.

After clipping Metaer’s ball in its slot, my hand went to the ball on the far right, this ball had a small red “2” printed on it, with the letters “TF” just before the two, though obviously added later.

Picking up Maggie’s in my left hand I called out, “Excellent job Maggie, you’ve done your bit, please return.”

The blue beam of a returning Pokémon shot out from Maggie’s ball, engulfing it. The blue Magnezone shape at the end of the beam began to shrink before it coalesced into a sphere and began to roll the beam around itself till it was situated in the Pokéball.

Next, I raised my right hand, the one containing Team Forretress Two in Pokéball form. I depressed the button on the “front” of the ball and quickly a red beam of light shot out to where Maggie had been. Once again a red ball started expanding but this time it formed a different shape, that of a Forretress.

“Hey TF,” I called, “How do you feel about causing some pain?”

Realistically the answer would be no, Forretress weren’t known for their ability to deal pain quickly but I had what would be a long, drawn out plan.

Team Forretress Two just nodded at me however, before I could even open my mouth to give it instructions, It began to pour out its energy into a nearby stick, a beam of green light coming out of his eyes and hitting the stick, changing its shape to resemble that of the original Pokémon.

Team Forretress Two moved back slightly, waiting to see what the Scizor would do.

Forretress seemed to use the slightest bit of energy in its Substitute; using another object meant it wouldn't have to take its own vitality, but at the same time the Substitute wouldn't be able to take hardly any hits for the Forretress..

Scizor looked confused; I figured it had never seen a Substitute. It wasn't a common technique amongst wild Pokémon. It must've figured it was a Doubleteam; that was a move Scizor knew that worked slightly similar to this use of Substitute.. Scizor lunged past the real Forretress to the false one, hitting it with its claw and breaking it instantly; only a shattered stick remained.

The Scyther's bickering got worse.. much worse. They saw they were likely to lose their leader, and a power struggle was developing...

Team Forretress Two’s substitute was gone and it hadn’t gotten to use the planned next move. I was determined to set up some residual damage on the Scizor, weaken it over an extended period of time.

The problem was, all I had handy for that was a poison and steel type Pokémon are well known for being immune to poisoning. There was however, a simple solution. I could easily wait out the Scizor, or so I hoped.

Scizor had the useful inability to learn any fire type moves, at least, it was useful in this situation. My plan involved stalling and taking damage without doing much damage to the Scizor, damage done wouldn’t hurt but there was no way I was going let it get too injured. My final plan revolved around moves that cannot physically knock a Pokémon out.

For now, I wanted Team Forretress Two to work on building up its defences. Forretress most likely knew the plan I was going to use. I never used it as an offensive Pokémon, I’d either set up some entry hazards if we were fighting more than one Pokémon or boost defences if it was a one on one like this. Raising these defences was always going to be the best mode of offence in the national park.

I’d told Team Forretress Two our plans for a capture of a Pokémon well in advance of this date so all I had to say was, “We want this Scizor in a pokéball, help me catch it.”

That one sentence told Team Forretress Two everything it needed to know. I could therefore settle down and enjoy the battle. It also gave me a chance to talk with Siless. There was no way I was going to give the plan away to the Scizor, which would only help its chances of escape.

I therefore asked Siless, “What do you think my chances of actually capturing this are? I have an almost foolproof plan to get it to low health without actually knocking it out.”

Knowing that my plan was going to take an extended period of time, I glanced quickly at Team Forretress Two. He was starting to develop a blue sheen that was steadily growing brighter. Step one in my plan, boost defences was under way. Team Forretress Two was using Iron Defence. This would make it harder to kill and most likely leave it in a more ragged state when the time to Pain Split came.

I somewhat saw what Ryan was doing; he needed Scizor to start dealing some damage, but the Paralysis he dealt earlier was not going to help him in this endeavor..

As soon as Scizor saw the Forretress begin to shine, it started to cover its claws in a stronger lustrous coat than the rest of its body and charged. Scizor's claws beat on Forretress's own coat. It didn't seem to do much damage, but Forretress wasn't really retaliating either. Scizor backed off as it felt the electricity of the Zap Cannon course through its armored shell again..

I watched the Scyther pride; it seemed to have erupted in a fight, with three Scyther all attacking each other with their blades making metallic clanks. Some other Scyther tried pulling them apart, only to get knocked off...

I took my eyes of the fight between Team Forretress Two and the Scizor for a bit, they didn’t really need my help. What was much more interesting than the stall fest going on beside me was the all out brawl on the other side of the clearing. The Scyther pride members were chopping each other to bits, obviously aiming to be the new leader if I captured the current leader.

I figured they would be in a fair bit of trouble if I failed, this just gave me an added incentive to catch the Scizor, I didn’t want those poor Scyther injured for my next park run which would be about harvesting them.

The Scyther fight was getting more and more vicious; the fight between Team Forretress two and the Scizor however was doing the exact opposite. They just sat there looking at each other without doing anything.

Siless still hadn’t answered my question, he was obviously too engrossed in the battles surrounding him to worry, or maybe he just didn’t want to lower my hopes. This didn’t really worry me. Team Forretress Two was about to enact the next phase of our plan.

The only thing was, phase two was pretty much identical to phase one. The colour of the Iron Defence, which was currently a nice blue, began to change. It started by getting darker, a green tinge appeared on Team Forretress Two’s armour, then the green slowly began to run out, leaving behind a bright yellow sheen.

Some of the Scyther still watching my fight shied away, others left my fight and got themselves involved in the leadership challenge, still other looked like they wanted to launch themselves at me though i was fairly confident that I was safe from that.

The brightness in the clearing from the armour that had been set-up by the Pokémon was starting to give me a headache, despite the sunglasses I’d put on when the Scizor arrived.

    BP#7 (Vs. Scizor Post 5)

Scizor rushed the Forretress as soon as the electricity in its armor died down. It cut through the shining coat of Iron Defense; even though it reformed quickly, the blow ignored the protective effect. This strike dealt more damage than the last, though with the way Forretress resisted the last one it wasn't saying much...

The question Ryan asked finally got through my head. "Oh, uh.. Can't really say what your chances are.. I'd think they're pretty good; even better if this thing plans on fighting to the end. Just remember you need a Super Ball or better to capture this."

The Pokeball at my belt shot open, revealing my Gardevoir; I figured the turmoil from the Scyther battle woke her up. Sela gave me a look as if to say she was disappointed I didn't wake her in time for the park run... then she Teleported over to the Scyther battle. I knew she could handle whatever arose over there, so I focused my attention back to the battle; Scizor seemed to be phasing in and out of existence once more.

(OOC: speed+4 only counters par speed drop in the game)

Two things now distracted me, the fact that Siless’ Gardevoir had opened its own ball, and the fact that the Scizor seemed capable of getting through Team Forretress Two’s Iron Defence. This didn’t exactly make me happy due to the next phase of my plan being identical to the previous two.

I watched the Gardevoir, whose name I didn’t know, Teleport over to the Scythers, obviously it was ready to step in if they got aggressive towards us. Siless also reminded me that the Scizor could not be caught with a regular park ball. I’d forgotten this fact and was slightly worried. I only had four attempts at catching it before I had to start running around and collecting fallen park balls, not really my idea of a good time.

The Scizor was obviously angry at me and really didn’t want to let me get away. I wasn’t exactly planning on getting away though, at least not without the Scizor for company. The Scyther pride obviously echoed their leaders feeling, all except the ones with visions of being leader themselves.

The blade fighting going on over the other side of the field was spectacular, none of the Scyther wanted to give up the eminent position of pride leader, and why would they, as far as I was aware, the Scizor in a Scyther pride has a pretty easy time of it, only really doing anything when the pride was in danger.

That was why the Scyther was dangerous to me, its life revolved around being prepared for fights and being ready to protect its pride. Luckily for me, many of my Pokémon worked for me in my gym, their life also revolved around fights. I didn’t know if the Scizor enjoyed fighting, but presumably it did, why else would it not send someone else to test the waters first?

The fact that is seemed to enjoy fighting made me happy, I didn’t want to make a Pokémon fight against its will and with the Scizor, I probably wouldn’t have to.

Thinking back to how simple the Slakoth battle had been, how easy it was to catch, I realised that I had underestimated wild Pokémon. I’d gotten through that battle without even getting properly attacked once, this time, I was facing a Pokémon who would do anything to win, who seemed to know a lot about battle tactics and was willing to use that knowledge to help himself.

There I went assuming again, I didn’t actually know the Scizor’s gender yet, for all I knew it was a female. I’d have to find out after I captured it, and capture it I would, if it was the last thing I ever did in the park.
During my extended discussion with myself, Team Forretress Two’s Iron defence had been bleeding from the bright yellow it had been, through to a deep crimson. The crimson had run through the sheen like dye through water, slowly seeping from a point just above Team Forretress Two’s eyes, now it would be even harder to hit with physical attacks.

I was waiting for the Scizor to attack now, and to attack hard, or maybe I’d get some benefit from that paralysis that I’d inflicted on it earlier in the battle.

OOC: It's supposed to help a bit :p If the battle is too one-sided, you're not going to get as many characters. And you always have the choice of what gender your Wild Pokemon is, so feel free to say whatever you want it to be.

    BP#8 (Vs. Scizor Post 6)

Scizor was about to go for a second Slash attack, it seemed like, but a jolt of electricity halted its muscles after it lunged. It crashed headfirst into Forretress, though it seemed to not damage either Pokémon much. It was vulnerable to an attack, though with Forretress being such a defensive Pokémon, I wondered if they would stick to their prior Pain Split strategy. I saw a smirk from the downed Steel-type; it seemed to be enjoying the fight, even though it wasn't exactly going its way.

The clanging from the Scyther stopped. They seemed violent; I thought Sela might have to defend herself, but she seemed to be in control of the situation. There appeared to be some protocol to the Scyther pride's selection of their leader in cases such as this, though I didn't know it (and wouldn't until Sela was finished).

    (Scizor Shall be female)
    ----------------------------------
I watched the Scizor come flying toward Team Forretress Two, this was going to deal even more damage than had already been dealt, and then suddenly another spark of electricity shot along the Scizor’s body, residual effects from Maggie's Zap Cannon earlier in the battle. What was more; the Scizor went head first into Forretress which would hurt both Pokémon and make my pain split strategy much easier to use in the long run.

I knew from the start that a lower health Scizor before the pain split would result in a lower health Scizor after the pain split, and if Scizor was in more pain and less fit to battle, it would be easier to catch.

Of course, making it easier to catch was the entire point of battling wild Pokémon. I thought back to my early days, back when I had no idea about anything and had used regular pokéballs to catch uninjured Pokémon. I’d even tried to catch a Metagross that way and as most people know, Metagross are extremely talented at escaping from pokéballs.

I’d learnt this the hard way and would never make the same mistake again, this meant that Team Forretress Two would now have to deal some damage to the Scizor, but that was okay, Team Forretress Two would be careful and would be using moves that wouldn’t do that much damage anyway, the problem was, he wouldn’t be on the same page as me as we hadn’t discussed this situation.

Part of me wanted to protect and stall, the more persuasive part of me wanted to attack though. This being the case, I turned to Team Forretress Two, who was watching the Scizor Pick itself back up off the ground. I quickly called out too it, “Use rapid spin.”

I knew that rapid spin wouldn’t do much damage but it would do some, and that was enough for me.

Team Forretress Two started to slowly rotate, building up speed slowly till it was spinning at a frankly terrifying rate. That was when he lifted off the ground, picked up by the lift generated by his spinning. Next, he shifted his weight slightly and went rocketing toward the Scizor.

On the other side of the clearing, Siless’ Gardevoir seemed like it was about to get into a major fight with the Scyther pride. For its sake, I hoped it didn’t as that would probably be a harsh fight. If a fight did ensue, I wished it luck, it would probably need it against so many Scythers, and it wasn’t like there was no reason Scyther was called king of the basics.

I was ready to help the Gardevoir if there was a need for it, but at the same time, I had to be alert and concentrate on the Scizor fight, and under no circumstances did I want it to flee.

My heart rate hadn’t settled since I’d first seen the two Scythers that had brought the Scizor to us, and this battle was still only really getting started. My headache from the brightness was only getting worse as well, and for some obscure reason, my back was hurting too, perhaps my pack was too heavy.

In the hope that my heavy pack was the cause, I slipped it off my back asking Siless to remind me to pick it up after the battle as I did so.

Forretress slammed into the downed Scizor, spinning like a top, but its armored shell stopped the Rapid Spin after a single hit. The electricity had faded once more, and Scizor knocked the spherical Pokémon away while standing up again; once it was sure it wasn't going to stop in the middle of its attack again, it charged at the Forretress, slapping it with its claw twice, the second blow making a loud CLANK and sending Forretress into a nearby tree... Scizor didn't seem to want to hit that hard, from the look on its face, but it quickly turned into acceptance as the Forretress turned back towards its opponent.

The brightness of the area was annoying me, and apparently Ryan as well.. I tossed him a spare pair of sunglasses I brought along, not knowing why I hadn't pulled them out yet...

I saw Sela discussing the leadership issues with the Scyther. Everything seemed to be in order, but one rowdy Scyther started to get out of line and started to slash at Sela. Before I could respond, she had ducked the blow and shocked its blades with Thunderbolt; I assumed this would keep it from trying to hit her again.

Team Forretress Two hurtled from the air into the Scizor, hitting in extremely hard. Unfortunately, the Scizor had the same sort of steel skin that Team Forretress two had. There was slight penetration of the skin from the attack but it stopped team Forretress two dead in its tracks. Team Forretress Two fell to the ground having had all its momentum ripped out of it.

The Scizor stood up, careful not to trigger another painful jolt of electrical energy across its skin. The Scizor then came charging toward Team Forretress Two, delivering a left right punch combination, the left claw didn’t seem to hurt very much but the right claw made a loud metallic crash and picked Team Forretress Two of the ground and sent him flying into a solid tree.

The Scizor looked almost apologetic about the force of the blow. The Scizor looked like it was about to come again and team Forretress Two was lying on the ground, not having had a chance to get himself upright. Seeing the impending charge, I called out to Team Forretress Two, “Protect yourself!”

A look of deep concentration appeared on the winded Forretress’ face, a slight shimmer materialised in the air in front of it, it looked insubstantial for now but it would theoretically prevent anything the Scizor tried from reaching through to hurt Team Forretress Two.

As this was happening, Siless tossed me a pair of sunglasses, this confused me as I already had a pair on, though the lenses weren’t very dark. My first, stupid, thought was that Siless intended for me to wear both pairs. The pair Siless had given me did not fit over the top of my original pair however.

Siless was putting his glasses on when he looked at me, shook his head a laughed. I quickly realised my mistake and took my own, bright red glasses of, replacing them with Siless’ blue ones. These had a darker colour to the lenses and would hopefully help my headache, if they didn’t, I was carrying some paracetamol in my pack.

On the other side of the clearing, one of the Scyther was rushing Siless’ Gardevoir, which responded with a bolt of lightning from its chest. That gave the Scyther pause for thought; it didn’t make the pride look any happier though.

I really did hope the pride would be able to sort out its leadership issues quickly and easily, I didn’t want to be the one that causes a split or any deaths and they weren’t unheard of in such fights.

Scizor charged the downed Forretress; a shimmering barrier around Forretress blocked all of the blows, and Scizor forced itself to back off before it could respond. It kneeled down, once again stunned by the electricity in its system, though luckily for it it wasn't during an attack. Still, it left it open for counterattack if anything could get past its shell...

Sela Teleported back to my side with good news; I translated her mental impulses to Ryan, since I figured he'd be interested. "The rowdy Scyther has been a constant troublemaker; most of the Scyther were just annoyed that he attacked. There's a Scyther set in-line for leader, the son of the current leader, so there's precedent and the Scyther pride is unlikely to revolt during the change."

Sela turned to watch the battle, though at a dip in the action as Scizor was Fully Paralyzed and Forretress was still recovering from its Protect usage. I could tell she was waiting for something to happen.

Siless informed me about the designated heir for the Scyther pride if anything were to happen to the leader, “The rowdy Scyther has been a constant troublemaker; most of the Scyther were just annoyed that he attacked. There's a Scyther set in-line for leader, the son of the current leader, so there's precedent and the Scyther pride is unlikely to revolt during the change.”

This made me more relaxed, there was no way I was going to hurt the pride, or at least, it was unlikely I would and if I did, it would be because of the prides internal politics, not entirely my fault.

Despite what Siless had informed me however, there still seemed to be a reasonable amount of argument happening across the clearing. I did hope that the Scyther would sort out their internal issues quickly, not that it looked that promising.

What looked like one of the younger Scyther seemed to be almost yelling at the rebellious one. Was this young Scyther the designated heir? If it was, I could understand why some would be reluctant to bow down to its rule.

Having said that, I was a firm believer in hierarchy and smooth transitions, I couldn’t think of a human rebellion that hadn’t involved at least one death, and they normally involved hundreds more.

I was surprised that the current leaders son was going to take over, the Scizor had revealed itself to be female so I’d assumed that is was a matriarchal society, evidently I was wrong.

Well, I’d been told never to assume, I’d make an ass of myself, or maybe that was an ass of you and me? I really wasn’t sure. I still had an urge to send Meater into the battle, it was one of the mainstays of my gym and important in my life.

Meater also had the significant advantage of being both of my favourite types, psychic and steel. It was therefore my favourite Pokémon, both of those I owned and my favourite species.

Metagross are notoriously hard to find in the wild and so are often found in shops, courtesy of a breeding program. This made them easily obtainable, more so than many commonly found in the wild.

I turned my attention back to the battle and the Scizor sitting there waiting for me to do something useful, or maybe iit was just in pain.

Its next action seemed to answer that question, it rasped in a pained voice, “Scizor, Sci, Scizor.”

I wondered what it was saying so I quickly pulled out the Pokéball with the “A” emblazoned on the release catch and sent Alonso to talk to it. Alonso’s psychic powers allowed him to communicate with me.

Alonso talked to the Scizor for a bit, obviously assuring her that he wasn’t coming to fight. They then talked for a bit, Alonso’s actions made it obvious that I wasn’t welcome at the party. I had no idea what the discussion was about but perhaps they would tell me later, I’d just have to remember to ask them.

The Scizor then bowed twice, Once to Team Forretress two and once to me. Now that everyone had been given a chance to catch their breaths, it was time for round two.

Team Forretress Two then decided to break two of the golden rules, the one about obeying your trainer and the one about not trying the same trick twice. I called out for another rapid spin, Team Forretress Two however decided it was going to use substitute, maybe because of something that had been said during the conversation.

Team Forretress Two was an experienced battler so I had no qualms with letting him make decisions if he was in the battle, after all, he was the one that ultimately felt the pain, just so long as he stuck to the overall battle plan.

Not only was team Forretress Tow going to use substitute again, it was going to set it up on an inanimate object. A stream of energy flowed out of Team Forretress Two into an nearby blade of grass. I could tell that it was putting in more energy than last time but I still doubted it would last very many attacks, even with Team Forretress Two’s massive defence boosts from earlier in the battle.

I prayed that Team Forretress Two knew what he was doing, I was sure he did but I’ve always gone by the strategy that a little prayer never hurts. I also prayed that whatever happened throughout the remainder of this battle, I wouldn’t knock the Scizor out.

Would my prayers be answered? Would a catch eventually happen? I had confidence but in truth, only time would tell.

    BP#11 (Vs. Scizor Post 9)

Forretress exerted a good bit of energy making a second Substitute; it looked winded, and it would probably be sweating in exhaustion right now if it could. Scizor wasn't doing very well on her end either; the electricity stored in her body from the Zap Cannon far earlier in the battle was getting stronger, rendering it unable to move once more.

"I think Scizor is exerting itself too much. It's letting its defenses down against the Paralysis to give it more strength elsewhere." At least, that was my theory. Sela seemed to agree with me, but I doubted that she was certain. Still, it made sense to the two of us...

Most of the Scyther had calmed down to watch their leader fight. They didn't seem to want to see her leave, but they knew it was as much her decision as the trainer's; she could've left long ago if she didn't want to be caught. They screeched, almost as if cheering, but it seemed as though they were trying to rally not only their leader, but Ryan and his Pokémon as well. They wanted to see a great battle and, if their leader had to leave, they wanted to see her go with honor.

(OOC: you left the sub off the stats/the reason I may be slow posting for the next 14 weeks)
    ---------------------------------------------

Both Pokémon involved in the battle looked almost completely exhausted, but at the same time, they seemed utterly determined to put on an exciting show for those watching. The battle now seemed less about actually hurting the opponent than showing of their supreme skills and bravery. This of course meant that the spped was going to pick up, but the battle itself might end up taking much longer.

Maybe that’s why Forretress disobeyed me yet again, I’d ordered the first of several pain splits that would be used throughout the battle, Team Forretress Two however decided that the time was not yet ripe for such action. He evidently wanted to show off his bravery as he began a stupidly reckless charge.

I winced as I saw what Team Forretress two was about to do, this would weaken both Pokémon, though probably not very much due to their steel typing. Using take down was reckless, foolish and most of all, ineffective.

It did however raise the already extreme noise levels coming from the rowdy Scyther pride, they obviously liked what they saw, and that at least was something to be thankful for. I was beginning to piece together the contents and subject matter of the conversation which the two Pokémon involved in the battle and Alonso had been involved in during the recent break in the battle.

It seemed that they really wanted to put on an exciting show for those watching, that meant that Team Forretress Two would still stick to the overall battle plan, which was enough for me, I decided to sit back and watch the battle happen, the overlying strategy would be mine but the tactics would be down to Team Forretress Two. I still wasn’t going to relax though, I had to be ready to jump in and make some tough decisions such as switches if need be. I also had to be the one to choose when to throw the Pokéball.

With every movement any of us made, the noise from the Scyther seemed to momentarily intensify. Alonso and Sela joined in one the cheering, the cacophony wasn’t helping my headache but I simply didn’t care anymore, I was too caught up in the heat of battle. Siless explained to me his theory on why the paralysis that had been enacted on the Scizor very early in the battle was suddenly affecting the Scizor so much more often now that the battle was dragging on.

"I think Scizor is exerting itself too much. It's letting its defences down against the Paralysis to give it more strength elsewhere."

This made me rather happier than I had been, the battle was just going to drag on longer and give me a chance to see how the Scizor dealt with pressure, and that would be important in tight situations in my gym, and in other battles too for that matter.

I sincerely hoped that Team Forretress Two would pain split next, I really didn’t want it getting knocked out because it cut the amount of punishment it could take too fine. If Team Forretress two was knocked out, I would have to completely rethink my battle strategy and I didn’t really have the time to be doing that. Everything now hinged on when Team Forretress Two chose to enact my plan.

(OOC: Sub is more of a distraction here than it is a status that intercepts all attacks, so I didn't put it in Forry's stats. Might do it in Battles Stats next time though. Also, holy crap tons of physics ._.)

    BP#12 (Vs. Scizor Post 10)

Forretress rammed into the Scizor head-first (after seeing this and describing it in my head, I wondered if it was even possible for it to hit any other way...). Scizor fell back as it was hit, but Forretress kept going for another hit; as it came in contact for a second time, a beam of light shot from the back of Forretress and looped around to Scizor's back. The beam seemed to be siphoning energy both ways and, if I recalled correctly, the move would end up with both Pokémon at even energy levels. As soon as the light disappeared, Forretress moved back, full of energy; it seemed as though it was a lot weaker than what it made itself out to be earlier, and the Pain Split had brought it back up.

Scizor, on the other hand, seemed to be slightly more tired. I could hear it panting from where I was standing, surprising me over the roar of the Scyther pride. Sela sensed large energy stores still in it, so I figured that, with the lack of trainers attacking it, it hadn't needed to use that energy in a while. It might make the match more even once it taps into that reserve, I thought, but until then it was at a big disadvantage.
