"Um.. Before this gets worse, I might as well buy another doll," Louise told Alpha, handing a bit of cash to him.

Alpha didn't even bother to listen to what Louise had commanded to her Starly, who was currently flapping its wings to escape from Cotton Spore's clutches. He grabbed a PokeDoll in its bag and tossed it somewhere far. Cacnea followed it quickly, getting away from them easily.

"Let's go this way." Alpha grabbed her hand and began to ran away from the center part of the gardens, leading her deeper inside the destination. He had brought her somewhere inside the garden where the sun shined brightly, and they were sealed inside an enclosed room. The walls there were transparent, but it had a tinge of green. "We should be safe from that Cacnea here in this greenhouse," Alpha said.

"Noone!" a white line dashed from one of the bushes inside the greenhouse. It then dashed again, in a zigzag motion, until it stopped right in front of Louise.

"Linoone, huh? This is a nice encounter, don't you think?" Alpha looked at Louise.

Ranger Alpha quickly accepted the money, rummaging through his bag once more. Hurry. Hurry. Hurry! I thought in my head as Nia concentrated on delivering the Whirlwind.

The next moment, fortunately, my ranger had found another Pokedoll, tossing it somewhere far; but it was near enough so that the creature would see it and follow it. I watched my Starly continue to flap her wings in attempt to blow the spores of cotton away from us. She was successful, therefore I cheered and praised her lovingly.

Before I could say, or do anything else, for that matter, Alpha had grabbed me by the hand. I was shocked, surprised to say the least. He began to run, pulling me along with him. I couldn't see where we were going, but I knew we were going away from the center area of the Botanical Gardens. I looked back behind me, I was glad Nia was flying--following us.

Before long, I could see where we were running to. We were heading towards the deeper part of the gardens, where there was an enclosed room. He brought me into that greenhouse. The sun shone brightly, coming in from the quite transparent roof. I looked around and saw that the walls were transparent as well, but they had a tinge of green.

There were bushes and flowers in the room, and I could clearly smell the wildlife. Just as I had gotten into some sort of soothing reverie, a growl of a Pokemon reached my ears as well as the faint sound of Alpha's voice. I only managed to catch something like, "safe from Cacnea" from the whole of his statement.

"Noone" was the sound I heard as I saw a faint--was it?--shadow zipping its way through the bushes. It was a white line sprinting in a zig-zag motion. It continued dashing about for a few moments, then it stopped, right in front of me. It seemed to be quite a jolly little creature.

It was a badger-like Pokémon with characteristics of weasels, ferrets, and raccoons. Its slender body resembled a weasel or ferret, and its sharp elongated claws resembled those of a badger. The creature's fur was white in color with brown stripes that resembled arrows and lightning bolts. It also has small sharp teeth that are known to be efficiently used with its sharp claws in hunting. A long stripe stretches the length of the body, ending at an arrowhead right above its eyes. The Rushing Pokemon had small, tuft-like ears and blue eyes.

"Linoone, huh? This is a nice encounter, don't you think?" Alpha looked at Louise.

"Yes, it is quite a nice Pokemon. Too bad I don't have anything to use to catch it with," I answered, showing my ranger the only materials I had brought with me. I had no Superballs or Hyperballs that could be used to catch evolved creatures.

I started to back away, this time facing the creature in case it tried to do us any harm. I gave Nia a nod, signaling her to be on her guard.

    Linoone BP#1

"Yes, it is quite a nice Pokemon. Too bad I don't have anything to use to catch it with," Louise quickly answered Alpha, taking a few steps backward and hoped that the Linoone won't charge at her and at Nia. After a few seconds of glaring at each other, Linoone backed off and dashed back to the bushes.

    "Wasn't that close?" Alpha chuckled.

Suddenly out from nowhere, Linoone leaped from the bushes and readied its claws as Nia came out from its Pokeball to defend Louise with Linoone's Slash.

"Let's be careful next time, shall we?" Alpha joked.

I was about to give a cheer of triumph when the Linoon had given up the staring contest and had leapt into a nearby bush. But, alas, after a few moments, it jumped back out at us - and its claws were glowing a bright white color. I watched helplessly, the creature was moving much too fast - I could not tell Nia to do anything. I winced, as if feeling my Starly's pain when the Slash attack hit her.

"Urgh!" I shouted in frustration as the Linoone did not leave us alone. "Gah, maybe I shouted just buy Pokedolls right away next time so as not to risk my Pokemon getting hurt any further." I was voicing out my thoughts now... I handed Ranger Alpha another five hundred Pokedollars for yet another Pokedoll.

Another Pokedoll was thrown by my ranger to the Pokemon. My fingers were crossed behind my back, hoping the Linoone would leave us now. My head spun, wondering about what Pokemon we may have to face next...

"Gah, maybe I shouted just buy Pokedolls right away next time so as not to risk my Pokemon getting hurt any further." She handed Alpha a couple of dollars as he kept it in his wallet and grabbed a doll from his bag. He tossed it towards the approaching Linoone, who eventually caught and ran away.

"Well wasn't that close? Let's get going then," Alpha said, leading Louise outside of the large greenhouse and venturing farther into the gardens.

Alpha caught a glimpse of a slim four-legged body along the shadows. The sunlight slowly made it visible as they came closer to it. Its skin tone was the same as the grass in the surroundings.

"Virizion." Alpha stopped walking and his eyes opened wide.

"Well wasn't that close? Let's get going then," Alpha said as he led me out of the greenhouse. I paused for a while, though, at the door of the greenhouse. I looked both ways, my jade green eyes shifting from side to side quickly. I wanted to check if there were any wild creatures that just might spring out from the grass right at me - or rather, us.

Fortunately, there were none. Thus, I called to Nia - returning her to her Pokeball, where she could take a nice, long rest. Carefully, I slid the small orb into my pocket, though keeping my right hand there just in case a Pokemon would jump at my ranger and me.

Alpha's eyes were scanning the area as well. I could not really see anything, save for the thick grass whose heights differed as we walked. The venture outdoors seemed to be, in my opinion, more refreshing than staying in the greenhouse - in that enclosed, "cramp" space. I never really liked battling in rooms and the like, except, perhaps, official stadiums - and only if they were large enough for my "standards", if you will.

That was one of the reasons why I actually chose to go to this zone of the National Park. The Botanic Gardens was a wide open space - or field, to be precise. Pokemon could roam around, and there was definitely a lot of room for battling. Unlike, say, the Abandoned Power Plant. Also, there were a load of great grass-typed Pokemon here - so, I had said "Eh.. why not?"

I must have been thinking too much as we walked around, for the next thing I knew, I had accidentally bumped into Alpha. "Oh, sorry..." Then, I heard him whisper, "Virizion." Now, I know why he had stopped walking - we were near a fantastic legendary Pokemon.

I gasped, looking at the Pokemon a short distance away from us. It was a Pokémon that seemed to resemble a deer or antelope. It was green in color, with horns that ended in dull points. I remembered the Sky Forme Shaymin's "scarf" as I laid my eyes on a pink-tipped leaf on each side of its neck. On the Grassland Pokemon's back, there were pointed ends of fur ending in a medium-long tail. Its legs looked very much like pointed knee-high boots, and had pointed hooves as well as pink highlights embedded on the joint of its knees.

"Oh wow..." was all I could exclaim in, what I thought was, a hint too loud voice. My mouth clamped shut afterwards - the only thing I could do was stare and gaze at the mystical, majestical grass Pokemon.

"Paging Dr Faggot, Paging Dr Faggot"

The phone vibrated loudly against wooden desk. Joe glanced over to the phone and read the large black letters lighting up on the phone. They read: Cameron Calling Joe reached out for the phone and flicked it open.

"Alright Dr Faggot," said the voice down the phone.

"That was a good prank swapping my ringtone, I wouldn't have guessed it was you. What do you want?" Joe asked, intrigued that Cameron would actually call him.

"Oh Boss Sam wants you to take over for Alpha in Botanic Gardens. You are to take Louise through the park," Cameron replied.

"Anything else I should know?" Joe asked.

"Yeah, I killed a Stunfisk today..." After Cameron said this the phone went dead, the sound of a long beep rang through Joe's ear.

Joe turned around to his Slowking, who was dozing off in the corner. He walk over to Slowking and poked his large crown. Slowking quickly reacted and slapped Joe around the face. Joe quickly raised his hand to the impact area and stared at Slowking.

"Common let's go, we are off to Botanic Gardens" Joe said to Slwoking. Within seconds, Slowking shut his dark green eyes and then suddenly they transformed into light mystic blue eyes. One moment Joe was standing in his office, the other moment he was standing in a row of flowers. Ahead he noticed a young trainer standing alone, almost shell-shocked. A quick flash appeared before Joe, it looked like a green horse shape Pokemon with a sparkle trailing it. Was that a legendary Pokemon?

As Joe walked up to the trainer, a small plant-like Pokemon appeared right before Louise. Its head’s rounded shape and striations causes it to resemble a plant bulb, such as an onion. Joe quickly grabbed his PokeDex and scanned the Pokemon.

Joe greeted himself to the trainer and then asked, "Would you like to battle this Petilil?"

I hadn't noticed until now - and because of my new ranger, too - that Alpha was gone. I really had not noticed.

I do not know how I could not have seen him walk away. Was I just too caught up in the spur of the moment? Was I too amazed by the fact that I was gazing at Virizion, a Legendary Pokemon? Or was Alpha just too good at, for lack of better term, sneaking away?

I blinked once, twice - still trying to take everything that had happened in the last few minutes in. Everything was just going by so quickly, and I wasn't following. I inhaled a sharp intake of breath, watching sadly as the mythical creature walked, or should I say, dashed, away with its powerful legs.

My attention now snapped to my next encounter: a small plant-like entity, who had just appeared right in front of me - or rather, my legs. It was a Grass-type Pokémon, primarily yellow-green in coloration. I thought it looked a lot like a plant bulb, such as an onion, because of its head’s rounded shape and striations. Its head was also tipped with three oblong-shaped leaves. The crescent-shaped white face, seemingly lacking a nose or mouth, had brown eyes shaped much like elongated, vertical ovals. A green "bib-like" feature was present on its neck, and its lower body consisted of yellow-colored ruffles.

I wasn't exactly sure what this Pokemon was, as I don't recall seeing it before. What with the influx of sudden new creatures, I couldn't just place my finger on one of them. But that was exactly why I was here, to learn about these new entities... As well as to hopefully capture one of them.

I jumped in surprise ever so slightly as I heard someone else near me. What I had actually heard was, that person's PokeDex - chirping up in its high-pitched, and ever-so-slightly annoying, voice.

"Petilil, the plant-like Pokemon. The leaves on its head are very bitter. Eating one of these leaves is known to refresh a tired body," was what I heard from the device. I turned around, rather surprised to see another man.

Before I could ask who he was, which I was hoping he was a ranger, he introduced himself. His name was Joe, and he was, indeed, a ranger. I felt myself smiling at him brightly, now knowing that my run could continue - with or without Alpha, or even Jesse. The worries, that had kept my mind busy when I figured out that ranger Alpha was no longer here, had disappeared in a flash; just like that.

This thought got me wondering about something else, though. Actually, it wasn't entirely something different; it was related to the rangers. Was the "switching" of rangers common nowadays? Did most expeditions have more than one ranger accompanying a trainer through a certain zone, just because the original one had more important things to do?

My journey through the Botanic Gardens wasn't that far deep yet, though I am enjoying it as I'm encountering so many different surprises here and there, and still my ranger had been swapped with another one twice now. I did hope, however, that this one would not have to go. Joe Smith seemed to be a pretty cool and nice guy - the same goes for my previous rangers. I wouldn't have wanted them to leave, but I suppose they had more important matters to attend to. I shrugged off any negative thoughts that had been entering my mind, reminding myself to focus on what was happening around me.

"Would you like to battle this Petilil?" Joe's question brought me back to reality. I blinked again, seemingly feeling a bit lost for a second there. I straightened myself up, shaking my head slightly to clear my mind.

I looked down at the Bulb Pokemon, who had a very eager and hopeful look on its face, for a few moments. I grinned again, nodding. "Sure, I'd love to battle it."

My right hand went to the pocket of my jeans, fingering my three Pokeballs. I held the orb that contained Superman, my Machoke, bringing it out. But then, I had some doubts and second thoughts. It wasn't that I did not trust my Pokemon and his abilities and skills, though he did tend to be boastful and rather disobedient at times. It's just that he was the only one left who was at full health. Petilil wasn't the strongest of creatures, or at least that's what I thought, and I wanted to reserve Superman for a later battle.

Kipper, on the other hand, was a brave one; he would gladly fight for me, even if he had a serious type disadvantage. However, now was not his time to shine and battle. My Marshtomp would prove to be useful later on as well, I just know it.

I quickly switched his red-and-white sphere with another one. This time it housed a Starly, one that I named Nia. I knew she was currently taking a rest and was exhausted for the earlier matches - as well as being the one with the lowest amount of health left in her, compared to my other two Pokemon. However, I did trust her fully and I knew she would be able to pull this off. She always managed to pull through anyway, since the time I had met her - and even before that, I knew she was a fighter of sorts.

"Nia, I choose you!" I called out, throwing the Pokeball up into the air after enlarging it by pressing the button. A blinding white light released the Flying type as the orb dropped back down to my waiting palm. She chirped energetically as she soared through the air, looking as though those few moments inside her ball had energized her once again.

"Right then, I want you to listen carefully, and bare with me, please. Okay, I know you don't like attacking dead on, physically - but you're going to have to try. We need to lower that Petilil's health so we can catch it," I explained to my Starly, hoping against all hope that she would nod and agree in affirmation. She sang out her name melodiously in acknowledgment as she swooped back down to confront the wild Grass type. I did hope she had said that because she approved of it, and not because she was worried...

"Awesome!" I cheered as we moved some steps back to give space for the battle. After all, and for all we knew, this whole Garden could become the makeshift battlefield. "Alright, let's start with Agility. Boost your speed, it should make you feel much better. Also, I hope it will make you perform better."

Nia began shifting about, flapping her wings rapidly. An aura began to glow around her, helping her to do better. In a moment, i could see her moving about at a much faster pace. I smiled as I watched her execute the move.

"Okay, now attack with Aerial Ace!" I ordered with a somewhat strained tone of voice. I wasn't sure if she was going to obey me, but I sure wished she did. All I could do now was wait for my small plan to unfold, crossing my fingers behind my back.

OOC: How's my post quality? Good? Bad? Neutral? And is it understandable? Am I rambling on too much there? Because I feel I am... It sure is hard working with the devolved forms of your current mons. I kept typing Staraptor, Machamp, and Swampert, LOL. :/

"Sure, I'd love to battle it." Louise replied to Joe

She quickly grabbed a small red and white ball from here pouch and held it in her hand. Then suddenly Louise stood still, pondering whether using the Pokemon she held in her hand was the right Pokemon. After a while of thinking, she quickly swapped the Pokeballs and chucked the new ball onto the ground. A white flash quickly appeared in front of Joe. As the flash died down and a small bird Pokemon appeared before Joe.

"Starr" cried the small bird Pokemon

"Right then, I want you to listen carefully, and bare with me, please. Okay, I know you don't like attacking dead on, physically - but you're going to have to try. We need to lower that Petilil's health so we can catch it," Louise explained to Nia, her Starly.

Starly cried in a soothing tone as a agreement and swooped down to the battle field.

"Alright, let's start with Agility. Boost your speed, it should make you feel much better. Also, I hope it will make you perform better." Louise cried out loud towards Nia.

Nia quickly acknowledged the move and fly into the air. As it was airborne, it started to move in a zig-zig shape, move faster and faster as it flew. Starly landed on the floor, a lot more psyched up than usual.

"Okay, now attack with Aerial Ace!" Louise said out loud.

Starly nodded and flew straight into the sky. Soon as it was airborne, Starly opened her wings wide open and started to power energy into her wings. Her wings glowed bright white and then suddenly slammed the wings into the side of Petilil. Petilil was sent flying into the ground, however slowly got back onto it's feet.

Then Petilil started to power some energy into the space above her bulb. A small green orb appeared and then was fired towards the bird Pokemon. The green orb crashed into Nia's side and then sent crashing it the ground.

Wow, I wonder how Louise will get herself out of this

I smiled, though a bit surprised that the plan had worked. Okay, maybe it did not work completely according to plan. Oh well, at least my Nia was able to attack and deal a good amount of damage.

The Starly had flown upwards, straight to the sky - as if to stall as she gathered energy for the attack. I had always thought Aerial Ace was a pretty cool move. The user would open and stretch its wings, if they had any, out wide. Power would flow through them, causing them to glow a bright white color - just like what Nia had done. The aura empowered her wings as she swooped back down, heading right for the Petilil.

The Flying-typed attack was a rather speedy move, thus the Grass-type had not been able to dodge it. I had grinned right then and there as the Starling Pokemon's wings slammed dead on into the opponent's sides. I watched her stumble backwards, lying down on the grassy ground for a few moments.

At first, I had really thought that the attack had not done much to the Bulb Pokemon for she did not stay down long on the park terrain. However, my doubts somehow flew away - just as quickly as they had come - when I saw some scratches and wounds on her. I kind of admired how durable she was; how she could endure these kinds of attacks... Or, perhaps, Nia did not put all of her strength and energy into just one move - knowing full well that I wanted to capture the small entity.

Suddenly, though, the wild creature began to power up as well. A small green-colored orb began to form above her - it looked like an oblate-spheroid-shaped light bulb of sorts full of Grass-type aura. Actually, on second thought, the creature itself seemed to be the bulb, while the sphere shining brightly above it was like the glowing light it "should" emit. It continued to grow, though, and shining brighter and brighter as the moments passed.

And that was when I realized the Energy Ball would be thrown at Nia any second now. I was about to order a command, telling my Starly to get out of the way. Unfortunately, once I had devised a plan and had opened my mouth to speak, the sphere filled with much energy had been launched. It was flying through the air, and in a matter of seconds, it had hit her.

I found myself looking on with dread; the whole scene replaying right before my eyes when it was actually just flowing through my head. The green ball soaring across the battlefield; my mouth opening, but not a single word came out; Nia's cry of pain as she endured the force of the impact, falling down to the grass with a thud... And that sound of hitting the field continued to repeat itself in my ears - as if I had just heard a loud bang of a gun...

If the earlier encounter with Roselia's Extrasensory attack, Cacnea's Pin Missile, and Linoone's Slash - in which Nia had been hurt pretty badly in all three cases - had been enough for my memories of my time with her to flood through my head, almost causing me to weep solemnly... Well, then, this one – this Energy Ball - would just tear me to pieces... And it just did; it tore me to shreds. She had nearly lost her life once, when she was young... I had vowed to take care of her, and raise her... Nothing should happen to her. Nothing. Nothing.

I glared daggers at the wild creature, slitting my eyes furiously. I had never really felt as angry as this before, no, but this was something different. My love for my Pokemon was too strong – our bond was much too precious. I suddenly felt the urge to get revenge, but I stopped myself. I breathed in deeply, trying my best to calm myself down. It was working – just barely. I opened and closed my eyes; clenching and unclenching my fists. I swallowed a bit of nothingness in my mouth, clearing my throat as I did so. After all, power and strength were obviously not the only options to winning this match – though some people think they were.

I felt a rush of adrenaline surging through me... Pushing me to be brave, and continue this fight. I would win this bout; I would make sure that would happen. What kind of win, though? What would it feel like to be the victor? Well, for one thing, successfully capturing that Petilil would be a grand achievement. Then, training her to the best of both of our abilities would be great as well. As for the Grass-type, she would be crowned victor if she would be able to defeat Nia – speaking of which...

I crouched down low, looking over my Pokemon. “Nia...” I said softly, being careful not to hurt her as I slowly nudged her. I beamed at her brightly when she opened her eyes and gave a low, yet audible, growl.

“Can you still battle? If not, you can go take a good long rest in your Pokeball.” My hand quickly grabbed the Starly’s spherical housing, showing it to her in case she wanted to go back in – which was highly probable.

She chirped before slowly rising. She began to flap her wings once more, though I saw she was having some difficulty in doing so. That Energy Ball certainly hit her, or rather, her wings, directly. She slowly began to fly again, but I knew she was in much pain. I also knew that when one of my Pokemon was determined on one thing, I couldn’t change it – just like me, actually. I smiled, nodding my head when she got into battle position.

“Okay, Nia, I want you to use Quick Attack. Go full force if need be, but don’t knock her out! And, I want you to Growl as you attack; lower that creature’s defenses!” I commanded, pointing purposefully at the Petilil. "Once you land the attack, I'll throw this Parkball."

Because of the earlier Agility, the Starling Pokemon was definitely much faster now. Quick Attack was a rather speedy move, too, just like Aerial Ace. Now, with that boost, she was traveling very swiftly towards the opponent. She looked as though she was performing Extremespeed, an attack that was really quickly performed. I just hoped she would not be afraid to attack with all her strength, as well as growl fiercely and in an intimidating manner.

I grabbed an empty green orb from my bag, pressing a button. This button was embedded on the middle of the sphere, and caused it to grow to its full capacity. I gripped it tightly with my right hand, ready to throw it as soon as Nia would finish attacking.

    ----
    OOC: If you didn't get it, throw Parkball after Starly attacks and moves out of the way. ^^;

“Okay, Nia, I want you to use Quick Attack. Go full force if need be, but don’t knock her out! And, I want you to Growl as you attack; lower that creature’s defenses!” I commanded, pointing purposefully at the Petilil. "Once you land the attack, I'll throw this Parkball." Lousie commanded to her Starly.

Starly quickly jetted into action and sped through the air towards Petilil. Quick Attack was a very common move, it has the ability to strike before the opponent can even move. At blistering speed, Starly smacked into Petilil, causing the bulb Pokemon to be seriously hurt. Starly withdrew from Petilil and started to open her mouth wide and started to Growl towards Petilil. It didn't have much affect on the Bulb Pokemon since it was lying on it's back injured by the Quick Attack.

Louise clenched the small red and white ball and threw it towards the motionless Petilil. The ball hit the Pokemon and then absorbed it. The ball landed on the floor and started to roll around in the dirt. After a few seconds, the ball came to a halt and flashed, indicating that the Pokemon was captured.

Joe walked over to the Pokeball and picked it up and placing it in his bag. "Sorry, I have to look after it and give it back as soon as we reach the end of this expedition," Joe said as shut the bag. He turned to his trainer and asked where they would like to go?

    OOC: Female Petilil, please.

I watched on with a rather large amount of worry as Nia began to execute the assault combo. I mean, who would not be nervous after what had just happened? I clearly was frightened for my Pokemon just might take another hit, another semi-devastating blow. I could not risk that now, could I? Okay, perhaps I am exaggerating a bit, but I was still worried.

It would not be the end of the world if my Starly got hurt again, no... However, I could not bear to watch her crash down again - it was possible, after all, seeing what the Grass-type was capable of. Who knew how much damage another Energy Ball attack could do to the Starling Pokemon, considering how near she would be; how focused she would be on delivering the Quick Attack... She could be hit dead on, for crying out loud...!

I snapped my attention back to the battle at hand - one that I was quite sure we would win. I knew that the move I had ordered had increased priority, meaning Nia should be able to attack with much speed that the opponent wouldn't even know she had hit her. As for Growl, I wasn't entirely certain what I was thinking at that point in time. I guess, now that I wonder about it, I just wanted to lower the Bulb Pokemon's strangth in one way or another.

The Starly had zipped right across the battlefield, and she left a trail of bright white chrome behind her. I had always thought this was kind of cool, as the light energy seemed to be a sign - a signal that told everyone of the entity's swiftness and power. I could barely have believed my own eyes when I had seen this attack before - back when I was a really young kid. At first, I had thought it was an extremely fast shooting star in the daylight. Or, maybe, a rather small-sized jet plane swooping straight before my eyes... Either way, I was astonished. And combine that with a Speed boost from the earlier Agility, well it was a certainly rapidly-performed attack.

I gripped the empty red-and-white orb tightly as Nia had finished obeying the commands. She flapped her wings, soaring up to the sky so as not to be in the way of the Pokeball. Now, I lifted my arm quickly - not wanting to waste a single precious second of the Petilil's time lying down hurt on the grassy ground. I exhaled sharply, I promised myself I would tend to her wounds later on, once I had captured her. I pitched the sphere at the wild Pokemon, and it hit her with a soft tap. An erratic beam of red light enveloped her as the ball opened, sucking her in with a zap.

Now, it fell to the ground, emitting an audible thud. It began to shake... Once... Twice... And, finally, a third time.

I beamed happily, I wasn't able to contain my glee. That Grass-type was mine! I heard a joyous, and somewhat proud, chirp coming from my Starling Pokemon.

"Yeah, Nia, we did it! You were great out there! Thanks for all your hard work, now go take a nice, long deserved rest," I told her, smiling as I praised her. I wasn't one who did not appreciate things, and I was definitely grateful that I had such wonderful and loyal Pokemon with me every step of the way. I rubbed Nia's head thankfully before retrieving another Pokeball.

This sphere had a bird-like emblem embedded on it - this mark showed that the housing belonged to my Starly. I wasn't very worried about how I would differentiate her Pokeball with another one if I would happen to acquire another Flying-type. I was pretty sure I would be able to distinguish who was kept in one ball and who wasn't. Anyway, I enlarged the orb, which sucked her in with another flash of red light. She would take a deserved and well-earned rest until further notice - like if I suddenly needed her.

I saw my ranger walk over to the now-still Pokeball, and picked it up quickly. "Sorry, I have to look after it and give it back as soon as we reach the end of this expedition," Joe told me as he carefully tossed in the ball, before zipping up his bag. He then asked me about which portion of the Botanic Gardens I would like to explore next.

"Sure; no worries. I read up on the National Park Rules and Policies, so I figured this was coming. I'm definitely certain that keeping the Petilil with the Park professionals - you rangers - would be the safest option for her," I replied - addressing his earlier apologies - whilst a hopefully comforting smile.

"As to where I would want to go next, I'd say it doesn't really matter to me. I'll let you guide me around the whole of the Gardens - if possible. Though, I'd prefer not going into the greenhouses. It's not that I have anything against them, I just... Um... I don't really like enclosed spaces; I prefer wide open ones - like this whole field that could become a make-shift battleground," I explained, hoping I was actually making sense.

OOC: I hope this post's 4K of characters doesn't go to waste *cough* :p

Joe nodded and headed off down a small dirt track that vanished into the large golden orange forest.

The carried on walking down the dirt trail, which seemed to go on forever. It was a lovely day, the gentle Autumn breeze gracefully blew against Joe's face. Leaves gradually dropping towards the ground as the fell from the golden orange trees. Joe enjoyed being out in the Botanic Garden when it was Autumn, there was something different about it.

Ahead of the was a large clearing, and a fallen down tree log lay in the middle. However as Joe was looking ahead, he walked into a pile of leaves and tumbled to the floor. He looked to left and noticed a small Buneary glaring into Joe's eyes with it's arms crossed. It didn't look to happy about Joe's clumsiness. Joe brought him self to his feet and apologized to the Rabbit Pokemon.

Joe then removed his Pokedex and scanned the new and angry Pokemon.

'Buneary, the Rabbit Pokémon. By quickly extending its rolled-up ears, it can launch a powerful attack against its enemies. '

"Well Louise do you want to capture this Buneary?" Joe asked Louise

My ranger nodded, and continued to lead me down the dirt trail. A thought suddenly came across my mind; why did they call these paths "dirt trails"? I mean, some roads' appearances did suit the name, but definitely not this one.

I looked on. This pathway seemed to be a never-ending trail, going on and on forever. It was like a lifetime of sorts - bends and turns here and there; blocks and hindrances every now and then to challenge you; and, of course, there was triumph, one way or another.

Now, as to why I disagree with calling it a "dirt trail". It was Autumn time; leaves were falling as cool breezes blew about. And this wind just so happened to brush by the trees, causing the leaves to rustle and sway... Somehow, it just felt all weird considering the sound they were making. It was rather, err, eerie and creepy in a way. But, wait, just stop for a second! I was talking about why this path was a nice one, was I not? Oh, how I disliked my brain sometimes for switching subjects so easily and quickly.

My eyes gazed around the area once more, taking in the scenic view of Autumn. Golden orange trees, leaves in a shade similar to that of the "dying" wildlife. I found myself smiling. The Botanic Gardens was a great place to be during this time of the year. This trail just seemed to bring out the best of the zone... Something was different about it...

I managed to snap out of my little reverie just in time to see Joe tumble and fall. I looked around quickly, wondering what he had tripped on, and - at that moment - I realized we had reached a rather large clearing. A fallen down tree lay in the middle of the unenclosed place, the center of it all.

"Are you alright, Ranger Joe?" I asked. I was about to stretch out my arm to help him up when he stood, brushing off some dirt and a leaf or two.

"Sorry." I heard him apologize, a confused look overcoming my face. And that was when I noticed the small, furry, seemingly angry mammalian-like Pokémon standing beside us with its arms crossed. It had long brown ears with pink-colored ear insides. Two typed of fur covered its body: a light tan fleece that covered much of its lower portion, feet as well as the tips of its ears; and a smooth chocolate-colored pelt on the upper half of the creature's body. It had a small, triangular pink nose, pink paw pads on the undersides of its feet, and small tan spots above its eyes. It also had a small brown puff of a tail, and - in this case - the Rabbit Pokemon's right ear stood up straight and tall, while the other was flopped over.

"Buneary, the Rabbit Pokémon. By quickly extending its rolled-up ears, it can launch a powerful attack against its enemies." a loud, squeaky mechanical voice echoed around the open area. It was Joe's Pokedex. I nodded, taking in what I had just heard. This information could be very useful later on when battling entities of this sort.

I began to think, wondering whether I should attempt to capture this rather furious creature or not. As if on cue, the ranger asked me if I would want to battle the Pokemon. They always did ask "the question", as I shall now call it, but I figured it was part of the National Park's policy to inquire.

Did I want the Buneary or not? Did I? I came to the Gardens mainly for Grass-types, though I had told my Pokemon and myself that trying to catch other "worthy" species wouldn't hurt as well. I wasn't really a fan of pure Normal-types; perhaps the only ones I liked were Aipom and Ambipom, Eevee, as well as the Porygon trio.

I breathed in deeply as I closed my eyes to make my final decision. "I guess so. The Rabbit Pokemon isn't that bad, after all. Besides, I don't think it will let us pass anyway."

Now that I had decided to battle this creature, I had to consider the three options I could use to fight it. Nia the Starly was out of the question almost immediately - not because I didn't trust her skills, but she deserved a nice long rest after the bout with Petilil. This left me with Kipper and Superman. Most trainers would probably opt to use Machoke, a Fighting-type, just because of type advantages. Well, sometimes, you should just rely on your own Pokemon's strength and abilities instead of the opponent's weak points - in my opinion, at least. My Marshtomp was strong specimen, and I was rather certain a Buneary could not stop him. He had some good moves, and was a brave one.

"Kipper, come on out!" I shouted as I threw his ball forwards after retrieving the orb. I made sure I had pressed the center button, too. As always, the sphere opened with a flash of bright white light.

I smiled at him encouragingly, to which he growled energetically in response. "Alright, Kipper, we don't want to hurt this wild creature too badly, but that doesn't mean we need to go easy on it," I explained, hoping he understood. "This place is great for hiding - for camouflage - use it to your advantage." I paused, thinking of the possible ways the Marshtomp could hide in the clearing. There actually weren't many places for him to hide, considering his coat's color - but I believed in him, and that was all that mattered.

"Okay, let's start this off with a Hydro Pump! Then, follow up with Mud Shot," I ordered, pumping my fist in the air. Suddenly, I thought about what the attacks could possibly do to the make-shift battlefield. I quickly added, "Oh, be careful, Kipper. We don't want to destroy the Botanic gardens now, do we?" Kipper was a courageous entity, that's for sure, but I just hoped he would be able to tone it down a bit. Perhaps Hydro Pump would prove to be too strong, but I had already called out the command. I would just have to wait and see.

OOC: Unnecessarily long post for Buneary is unnecessarily long

"Kipper, come on out!" Louise shouted as she threw the ball towards the ground. A white flash appeared and then gradually faded. A small bipedal amphibious creature stood before Buneary. It's long angular black fin on his head small stood out from the rest of it's other body features. Joe had done some research on his trainer and found out that this was her starter.

"Okay, let's start this off with a Hydro Pump! Then, follow up with Mud Shot," She ordered, following by pumping her fist in the air. Then with some seconds of hesitant she added, "Oh, be careful, Kipper. We don't want to destroy the Botanic gardens now, do we?"

Kipper looked all ready to battle Buneary. Buneary attack first and sped towards Kipper. As Buneary got close enough, she quickly squeezed her ears together in a tight scrunch. Then with a lot of momentum she powered her ears towards Kipper. The punch swiped across Kippers face. Kipper slowly wondered around, trying to find his feet.

"Oh no, that looks bad, Buneary just used Dizzy Punch, and know Kipper is confused" Joe exclaimed to Louise.

Kipper tried to fire a direct beam of Hydro Pump however he aimed everywhere and missed the Buneary. Buneary leaped into the air and winked towards Kipper. Joe recognized that move as Charm and it lowers the users attack. This is going really bad for Kipper

Kipper finally opened his mouth and fired a huge brown-like ball towards Buneary. The ball flew in the air and as it was above Buneary's head, it plummeted down towards it. The ball crashed against Buneary and sent her crashing into a pile of leaves.

"Well looked like that worked" Joe laughed out loud.

Hydro Pump was a strong move and there wasn't any guarantee that the attack could be performed successfully - it wasn't that accurate, I knew that. It was also a rather tough move to perform, considering how much power it had and how much damage it could possibly inflict. So, by taking all these into account, it did not really surprise me when the Rabbit Pokemon managed to attack first. I knew Kipper was charging up; his eyes were closed shut, and there was this faint blue aura glowing around him - I wasn't sure if others could see it, but I did every time he would execute Hydro Pump.

I was rather amazed at the Buneary's speed... But, then again, it was a bunny - a cute one if it wasn't so angry - and these kinds of creatures were always speedy, were they not. It leaped into the air, scrunching both of its ears down together tightly while airborne. They started to glow with bright rainbow-ish energy. It definitely looked quite spectacular with all those colors swirling about - blended together as it powered up.

I recognized this attack - perhaps a moment too late, though it probably didn't matter. The wild entity propelled itself a little further, pushing its ears forward once it had gotten close enough to Kipper. I had the urge to shout - to warn - my partner of the incoming assault, but I could not... I dared not. I believed in him; he was the bravest Pokemon I had seen so far. I knew he could handle a Dizzy Punch, I just hoped the attack would not cause him to become confused. I couldn't call out to him - I couldn't break his concentration. I had learned not to do that - ever - the hard way once before. Focus was everything in performing an attack as, for lack of better term, "huge" as Hydro Pump.

The ears came in contact with Kipper's rather scrunched-up-in-concentration face, punching him right across his cheek. I decided it was better if the Normal-type was the one to halt his focus in the water-typed attack. Pokemon were trained to try their best and endure opposing creature's attacks, so this was not anything new. Unfortunately, this was not the case for human's shouts or calls. It was a whole different matter if we, as trainers and humans, broke their concentration.

"Kipper! Are you alright?" I called out, seeing him open his eyes and look around. I watched with horror as he wandered around the clearing aimlessly. This was just the thing I was afraid of Dizzy Punch doing - the status ailment called confusion.

"Oh no, that looks bad, Buneary just used Dizzy Punch, and now Kipper is confused," Joe the ranger exclaimed, confirming my suspicions. He was right - this was not good, not good at all. I inhaled a sharp intake of breath - it wasn't the end of the world if my Marshtomp had gotten confused. No, of course it was not. He was courageous and strong, we would be able to survive battling a Buneary. I had no intention whatsoever to switch him out. We would stand strong, we would win this battle - together! And that was that.

Kipper began to shoot out a barrage of water. He was performing the attack, but his aim was rather off. He kept firing beams of liquid here and there. I gulped as I watched the Hydro Pump miss the enemy, instead hitting the Botanic Gardens. It probably wasn't going to end well. Confusion had taken over him - this time. I crossed my fingers, there was still a chance. The Mud Fish Pokemon might just be able to use Mud Shot on the target.

And as if confusion was not enough, the Rabbit Pokemon sprang up. It positioned itself so Kipper would see it, and winked at him in an attractive fashion. I sighed heavily - this just wasn't my day, was it? This move was Charm. It lowers the target's attack. The Marshtomp looked rather, uh, intimidated - but in a different way. However, I still believed wholeheartedly in him.

I breathed a sigh of relief when Kipper opened his mouth. He might not be able to hit as hard now due to Charm, but at least he could lower the wild Pokemon's health with Mud Shot. A brown medium-sized-looking orb shot out of his mouth, flying through the air. It was on a collision course with the Normal-type - that is, if all went according to plan... Which, so far, it was not really.

The sphere, which was composed of mud, slammed downwards onto Buneary's head with a splat. The force of the impact sent it flying - crashing into a pile of fallen leaves.

"Well looked like that worked." Joe laughed. I smiled at his easy-going attitude, before turning my attention back to the battle at hand.

"Great job, Kipper!" I praised the Water-Ground-type. Now, I began to think. I wondered about what my next tactic would, err, should be; I wondered how we would manage to pull through... I wished we would be able to win this bout... Then a light bulb lit up in my head, an idea surging into my mind.

"Okay, Kipper, try to overcome your confusion and use Mud Bomb! Then, hide in the plants and trees while I throw a Parkball," I called.

I usually liked to order for move combos, but this time, it was a rather different situation. My logic and plan was quite simple, really - though I was rather certain it was not flawless. It relied mostly on luck, the way I looked at it. Since Kipper had, indeed, the status ailment of confusion, I figured it would be best to order simple commands. It would be easier to follow and perform, in my opinion, if a confused Pokemon were to execute just one attack. Mud Bomb wasn't the strongest of moves, but at least it wasn't that hard an attack to perform - or so I hoped.

"Come on, Kipper, come on... You can do this, I know you can..." I mumbled under my breath, gasping; taking in shallow breaths of air in and out quickly; my heart was racing... This had to work, it just had to. I reached into my pocket uneasily, bringing out another green-colored orb. Another Parkball.

If all would go as planned, it would hopefully and probably look something like this:
First, as always, Kipper would charge up - powering himself. Then, he'd release more brown-colored mud-filled balls - much like that of the earlier Mud Shot. Except, this time, he would fire multiple sludge spheres towards the Rabbit Pokemon's way.

Once, and if, the Mud Bomb attack hits the wild creature, the Marshtomp should jump into the wilderness. It was a good hiding place, at least for that time being.

I would then throw the Parkball at the, for lack of better term, "prize". It would suck in the Buneary with a flash of red light, then shake and wriggle...

That is, if everything went well... I did not know for sure if my plan would work... Maybe Kipper wouldn't be able to break out of his confusion... Maybe he'll accidentally attack himself, or me, or my ranger, or the clearing and wildlife... Maybe the capture orb won't be able to catch the Normal-type... What if it broke free? What next? It was all a matter of luck as of the moment.

"Okay, Kipper, try to overcome your confusion and use Mud Bomb! Then, hide in the plants and trees while I throw a Parkball," Louise cried towards her partner

Kipper opened his mouth wide open and started to fire small brown orbs toward the rabbit Pokemon. The brown orbs started to shine with a green flash appear in the center of the orbs. However meanwhile the small rabbit Pokemon was staring towards the barrage of brown shaped orbs, and then held out her short pale brown hands and started to generate energy between them. A small black orb suddenly appeared and started to get bigger by the second. Soon the orb was at maximum power and the small rabbit Pokemon fired the black orb towards the barrage of brow orbs. The large black orb collided with the Mud Bomb's creating a large explosion.

However it seemed that some of the Mud Bomb's survived and trailed towards Buneary. Then with a huge explosion, a dust cloud raised from the ground and hid the small rabbit Pokemon. Then Louise threw a small green and dark green ball towards the dust cloud. A small red beam entered the dust cloud and then diminished. The ball landed on the floor and rolled around, one way to another.

Then after a sigh of relief, Joe walked towards the grounded ball and picked it up and said to Louise, "Congratulations, Buneary was captured, by rules I must look after it for mean time but you will obtain it after the run. So where do you want to go now?

I allowed myself to let out the breath I hadn't known I had been holding. Almost everything went according to plan - the only thing I had not taken account of was Buneary firing an attack. But that had not been that big of a problem.

The black orb, which had grown larger with every second that had passed, managed to head straight at the multiple small brown spheres Kipper had fired off. Confusion had not conquered my Marshtomp that time - and luckily, too! Once the balls collided with each other, a rather large explosion occurred. A big cloud of dust rose from the ground, and it had caused me to worry for a moment.

However, a relieved smile had soon crept onto my face once I saw a small trail of mud slamming into the wild Normal-type. The eruption had not managed to eliminate all of the Mud Bombs. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched the Water-Ground-type crawl into safety. He must have been damaged by the blast - I had figured. I swung my arm back quickly, and even though I couldn't see the target clearly through the smoke, I still threw the Parkball towards the entity.

Once the cloud of dust had vanished from the clearing, my eyes rested on the red-and-white-colored orb rolling around slowly on the ground. It stopped soon afterwards with a soft click.

Joe walked to the sphere, picking it up as he told me, "Congratulations, Buneary was captured, by rules I must look after it for mean time but you will obtain it after the run. So where do you want to go now?".

"Thanks," I replied when he congratulated me. I looked around me, trying to decide which area I would want to explore next. "Hmm... Maybe we could pass through that trail over there to get back to the main part of the Botanic Gardens," I suggested quite uncertainly as I pointed over to a path on the right side of the clearing. I wasn't sure where it would lead us to, but I was always up for a little adventure and a couple of surprises.

"Get up, you lazy slug. Looks like we have another trainer awaiting us!" I said to Stunfisk, throwing a shoe at it. The shoe hit the poor Stunfisk in the head and he growled, before slithering on over from the rug by the fireside. "This one is another ranger called Louise and she's in the Botanic Gardens." Stunfisk jumped up in the air at the thought. He loved going to the Botanic Gardens, swimming in the mud and what not. "I'm too lazy to take the ranger rover so bucker up. I'm riding you again. He seemed overjoyed as I jumped onto his back, grabbed his ears and kicked him gently in the side. He slithered forward, approached the door, I kicked it open and he shot forward across the ground like a speeding bullet. All the while repeating "fiskfiskfiskfisk" over and over again.

We were only travelling for a little while before the grass started to get greener and more and more lush. Trees were becoming more common as we Pokemon that liked to live in them. Stunfisk stopped suddenly as we heard people's voices. It was two rangers, one telling the other he had to leave. I hopped off Stunfisk and advanced.

"Hey," I said. "I'm guessing you're Louise? I'll be your new ranger and we ca-" I cut myself short as I heard a loud crunching sound. I turned around to see Stunfisk looking guiltily around. "Open your mouth," I said sternly. Slowly, his mouth opened up and a baby Oddish fell out. It gave a squeaky little laugh before shaking itself, sending Stunfisk's dribble flying. "Hehe. Interested in an Oddish by any chance?"

OOC: Actually my trainer character is different from my ranger character XDD

Joe was just about to reply when, all of a sudden, we heard a phone ring. His hand dug into his pocket, fishing out his phone and answering it quickly. He put on an apologizing look as he uttered a "Hello?"

In a few minutes, the call finally ended - however, the ranger had a rather worried-looking expression on his face. He looked at me and there was an emotion of... Was it - guilt?

"I'm so sorry, Louise," he apologized. "Something important came up. I gotta go - but don't worry, Jay will arrive here soon." He took one last glance around us, and a relieved look soon spread across his face. He pointed at a male teen approaching, who was riding what seemed to be a Stunfisk. "Look, there he is now."

And with that - and a wave goodbye - Joe Smith was off.

I nodded slightly, still rather astonished at everything that had happened so quickly. I turned, directing my attention to my new ranger - my fourth one on just this one journey. Well, at least I got to meet four rangers - and it has been a rather exciting expedition.

"Hey," Jay greeted warmly, and I smiled in acknowledgment. "I'm guessing you're Louise? I'll be your new ranger and we ca-" All of a sudden, we heard a loud crunching, munching - and somewhat grinding - sound. My eyes widened as I whirled around in surprise. What was that noise?

The ranger sighed heavily, looking at his Electric-type sternly. "Open your mouth," he ordered. It obeyed slowly, revealing a baby Oddish rather beaten up from inside its mouth. I gasped as my eyes widened even further - if that was even possible. But that seemed to be the case - in this situation, at least.

The Grass-Poison-type fell out, standing shortly after as it shook the Stunfisk's drool off itself. I breathed a sigh of relief since I now knew that - at least - this creature could still move about, wild and free.

"Hehe. Interested in an Oddish by any chance?"

"Uh... I think I'll pass on this one," I answered. Suddenly, I remembered my luck with the other encounters. "Oh, and if it tries to follow us, here's some money for a Pokedoll..." I brought out another five hundred Pokedollars, ready to use another toy if need be.

OOC: Just in case - 8,250 (after mart purchase gets approved) - 500 = 7,750
