    OOC: Lurkers, Gliscorman asked me to move it here because the Main RP Great Lakes are mega-cluttered right now. Also, again, copy-pasting.

    ~~~~~
    I was flying through the air on the back of my Staraptor, Broadblade, on the way to the entrance of the Great Lakes. I had been assigned a Trainer there, and I was excited to get going.
    Broadblade screeched, and I knew that we had arrived. He banked downwards violently, and just before we hit the ground flapped his giant wings, negating the fall. As he did so, he returned to his PokeBall, which we had found out was the easiest and best-looking way for me to dismount.
    I walked over to the Trainer and shook his hand.
    "Hey, my name is Chainy, and I'll be taking you through the Great Lakes," I said, shaking his hand.
    I led him over to the Gate, where I hummed a quick tune. No one else would be able to get in this way - even if they could remember the tune their voice register would be different to mine and so they would be denied access.
    Slowly, the huge iron gates swung inward, revealing the Great Lakes in all their glory.The Great Lakes were a strange assortment of water-bodies. Some were shallow and some were deep. Some were multi-level, and some even had saltwater, meaning they were connected to the ocean in some way. Most of them had beaches, but some you could only get into by diving.
    We walked down a gravel path, towards the docks.
    "Do you want to walk around the edge of this lake, or get a boat across it?" I asked.
    It had been a long day, and now, finally, I was able to get a Ranger. This pleased me to no end, as I wanted to further my collection. As I entered the area of the gate, I saw a ranger perform an impressive feat. He swooped in on a Staraptor and leapt off as he neared the ground, all the while returning his Pokemon.
    He stepped up to me and offered to shake and without faltering, I accepted.
    "Hey, my name is Chainy, and I'll be taking you through the Great Lakes," he said as we shook.
    I followed him to the gate and, as expected, he executed a complicated key which sounded suspiciously like singing. The iron gates swung open in response and I was faced with a quagmire of sorts; there were lakes of all depths, lengths, brackishness and, most disturbingly, heights.
    He had already walked onto the path running between the lakes and called back:
    "Do you want to walk around the edge of this lake, or get a boat across it?"
    I pondered this. A boat would let me see the lakes better and maybe even find a few Pokemon found on the water. However, walking around the edge of the lake would get me closer to the wildlife I wanted to catch.
    "I would like to go around, for now. But I also think that going on a boat will be needed."
    "I would like to go around, for now. But I also think that going on a boat will be needed," the Trainer said to me. I quickly flicked a look at the file on my PDA - the Trainer's name was Kyle.
    "Yeah, that's not a problem," I replied. "Ideally, you should have a Pokemon that knows Surf before coming here, but we get so many people that don't that we have started providing boats. And they're located strategically all around the Lakes, so when you feel like going out onto the water, just let me know and we can go in search of some water transportation."
    We turned right, walking around the main lake's edge. The main lake was a freshwater lake and very deep, but not the deepest we had. Many Pokemon could be found in it, and also around it. It had sandy beaches along most of it, and the sand crunched underneath our shoes as we walked.
    I noticed some irregular movement out of the corner of my eye near the incoming waves. When I looked a bit more carefully, I saw that a Wooper was washing itself at the very edge of the lake. I pointed it out to Kyle.
    "Want to try capturing that Wooper?" I asked him.
    As soon as the words slid out of my mouth, I knew something was up; my Ranger opened up his PDA to find information on something. Then, I realized what it was. Apparently I had forgotten my name. Stupid thing, really. But just as I was about to correct myself, Chainy turned to me.
    "Yeah, that's not a problem," he said to me. "Ideally, you should have a Pokemon that knows Surf before coming here, but we get so many people that don't that we have started providing boats. And they're located strategically all around the Lakes, so when you feel like going out onto the water, just let me know and we can go in search of some water transportation."
    "Logical," I thought to myself. "Boats are crucial to Trainers without a means of transportation, like myself. Clever, as the idea would increase the Park's income."
    I followed my Ranger as he walked casually toward one of the lakes. The hard packed, grassy earth yielded to sand. I gazed down on the grains as I did a quick analysis. It was fine, but not as fine as the dune sand in the region of my hometown. It was also far from the rough sand that was produced by volcanoes. it was somewhat like the sand on a beach. I kept that in mind as I hurried to catch up to my ranger.
    We approached a freshwater lake that looked to be rather deep. The anticipation of an encounter was strong and I fingered the Pokeballs strapped to my belt.
    After a little silence, I almost jumped as I heard my guide's sudden proposition.
    "Want to try capturing that Wooper?" He asked me.
    At first I had no idea what he was pointing to, then I noticed a small newt-like Pokemon as it turned to face me. On it's face were three small purplish things that looked like whiskers. It had a light blue body and a tail.
    My premonition was correct and I lunged into battle.
    "Alright!" I shouted, startling the poor little creature. "Raticate, I choose you! This will be some good practice."
    I hurled a Pokeball out onto the beach and a large, brown rat Pokemon appeared in a blinding flash of light and a shower of small sparks.
    OOC: Just so you know, you can order combo attacks, i.e. "Do (attack A) then (attack B)" if you like, you can do almost anything you want as long as you have the post quality to back it up and it doesn't cross Park rules.
    ~~~~~

    Kyle's eyes lit up when he saw the Wooper at the edge of the lake. He unclipped a Poke Ball and threw it onto the beach near the Wooper.

    "Alright! Raticate, I choose you! This will be some good practice," Kyle yelled as the Poke Ball opened and emitted a bright white flash. When the light had dissipated, the red-and-white sphere flew back to Kyle's hand, leaving behind a Raticate. The Raticate chattered its teeth warningly at the opponent, sensing battle. I was glad to see a Trainer using a Raticate - most Trainers only brought through uber Pokemon like Garchomp, Infernape, and Gallade, and so witnessing a battle by a lower-tier Pokemon was a very distinct joy.

    The Wooper hopped a little closer to the Raticate and squeaked, accepting the challenge. It then wagged its fin-like tail around behind it cutely, attempting to draw the Raticate off-guard and become underestimated.

    OOC: I know. :) I've researched the Park in depth before I entered. And, as reference, I'll be identifying gender differences as to what gender it is.

    The opposing Wooper began to waggle its tail back and forth in an attempt to catch my Raticate and myself off guard and land an attack. I did not want that to happen. While the Pokemon was cute in a watery, blue sort of way, it was not one that I wanted to keep. It had a tiny notch on each whisker that I had not noticed previously, meaning that it was a female.

    "No matter," I thought to myself. "I'll let my Pokemon charge."

    I glanced over at my Ranger as I started to formulate a plan. He looked at my Pokemon approvingly which was odd as using one of the most common Pokemon never seemed like a big achievement to me. I used whichever Pokemon appealed the most and Raticate was, strangely, one of them.

    I then shouted out to attack.

    "Raticate!" I ordered. "Charge the Wooper with your Super Fang attack as fast as you can!"

    The Super Fang attack was one of the most feared moves known by Raticate; the user lunges at the foe and gnashes with its fangs, causing the target, no matter it's current Hit Points, to loose half of its health. I had used it on numerous occasions and the affect always pleased me. This coupled with my Pokemon's natural urge to charge hastily into action regardless of circumstances made it a sight to behold.

    Through my thoughts, I heard the sound of my Pokemon lunging with teeth bared. I waited to see what would happen next.

    OOC: Wooper gender?

    ~~~~~
    "Raticate, charge the Wooper with your Super Fang attack as fast as you can!" Kyle ordered.
    His Raticate shook his head, clearing his memory of the Wooper wagging its tail in that adorable fashion. He hissed viciously, and ran towards Wooper using a strange galloping gait. He was careful to avoid both slippery patches of mud and patches of soft sand that would slow him down.
    When he was close to the Wooper, Raticate bared his two massive incisor fangs. With one last powerful push of his back legs, he slammed into the Wooper. He didn't bite with his teeth and much as stab with them. The momentum of the large rat Pokemon pushed the Wooper over. Raticate quickly jumped off the slippery Water Pokemon and began running back to his position in front of his Trainer.
    The Wooper got up and started squeaking loudly. Suddenly, five large rocks floated up out of the lake, hovering over the surface of the water. With one final squeak from the Wooper, the rocks began hurtling towards the fleeing Raticate.
    OOC: Female? I think I mentioned that... XD
    The charge worked to perfection. My Raticate slid into the Wooper and slammed her with his fangs. It had been weakened greatly by the attack, but apparently small newt Pokemon don't like to give up. A barrage of stones coated with a purplish aura soared through the air in pursuit of my rat Pokemon. I had to do something and fast.
    "Raticate! Watch out!" I called, worried that my Pokemon would be caught full-force bee the oncoming attack.
    "Rata!" It called back. It sounded pleased with itself, as if it had won the battle with a single stroke.
    "This is no time to get cocky, Raticate," I said to him. "You're under attack!"
    "Cate?" He was slightly confused, but he looked over his shoulder (if Pokemon can even be considered to have shoulders) and saw the barrage of rocks.
    "Raticate, turn around quickly and use your Quickest Attack to evade damage and use your other favorite move, Hyper Fang on the Wooper!" I ordered him.
    Before I had even specified a target, he was already off at an astonishing pace. I could only sit back and wonder if it would be enough to dodge the Ancient Power attack.
    ((Using Quick Attack, then Hyper Fang))
    "Raticate! Watch out! This is no time to get cocky, you're under attack!" Kyle called out worriedly. Raticate was preening himself happily, as if the battle was already over. But as his Trainer's worried shout, he turned around and saw the rocks flying towards him. His jaw dropped almost comically. He would never have thought that such a little Pokemon could perform so powerful a move.
    "Raticate, turn around quickly and use your Quickest Attack to evade damage and use your other favorite move, Hyper Fang on the Wooper!" Kyle ordered.
    Raticate got off his haunches and slammed both his front feet onto the ground. As soon as the feet touched the sand, he was off like a shot. The crumbly sand impeded his movements, but the Wooper was also young, and unable to control the Ancientpower very well. Raticate was able to weave from side to side and dodge the rocks. He then slammed into the Wooper again, but this time he actually bit the Wooper. The Wooper cried out, and struggled violently, even managing to dislodge Raticate. It then quickly jumped back two steps and shot a small stream of water towards Raticate from its mouth.
    The combo attack was a success. My Raticate slammed into the Wooper with blinding speed and bit down hard. The Wooper was stunned by the blow and let loose a weak stream of water in an attempt to slow the next barrage of attacks that was inevitable. The opposing Pokemon looked very weak and tired. Then, a thought struck me.
    "It looks like it would forfeit, if given the chance," I thought. "Maybe I should oblige..."
    The water stream was almost upon my Rat Pokemon when I whipped a Pokeball off of my belt. I poised to throw it and swung my arm in the motion. Things weren't as any other would predict, however; I flipped the top off the capsule and my Raticate was sucked into the void of a Pokeball in a flash of light.
    I glanced over at the Wooper and my eyes met her small, beady black eyes. I bowed and prepared to walk off.
    I was watching as the jet of water blasted towards Raticate. He stood, waiting for a command, but none came. Suddenly, I saw a Poke Ball spinning through the air over Raticate. I initially thought Kyle was going for a capture. It wouldn't have been a bad time really - the Wooper was caught up in its own attack and wouldn't be expecting it. But instead, the sphere suddenly cracked open and sucked the Raticate inside in a flash of red light before returning to Kyle's hand. I looked at him incredulously as he bowed at the Wooper and then began to walk off without saying a word.
    I had no idea what he was doing. Perhaps he had simply decided he didn't want to capture it. Far be it from me to tell my Trainers what to do. I began to follow him, but I heard an angry squeaking from behind us. The Wooper was running along after us, looking quite angry. It overtook Kyle and began chattering in a high-pitched voice at him. I laughed - it looked like he was being told off.
    "It seems like the Wooper doesn't want the battle to end without a true conclusion," I said to Kyle, trying to hide my mirth.
    As I turned to leave the battle, I thought about the ploy I had just set up, and whether anyone would figure out before it was too late. I pushed this to the back of my mind as I heard Chainy's footsteps fall into a pattern behind me which meant that he was following me and had no idea, also.
    Before even seconds had passed, the Wooper became angry. She hopped up and down while emitting a cry that made it sound like it was very unhappy with my choice. I let a smug smile spread across my face as I fingered a Pokeball strapped to my belt.
    I turned around sharply and threw the Pokeball at the Wooper. It sailed high and above the Pokemon and landed behind it. A flash of light yielded to my starter Pokemon, Gliscor.
    "Gliscor! Finish the Wooper with a Night Slash!" I called out.
    Gliscor let out a cry and lunged at the exposed back of the Wooper with claws outstretched and glowing black as night. Hopefully, this would be enough to end this battle and move on.
    ~~~~~

    The Wooper jumped up and down angrily, demanding an end to the battle. I watched it with a gentle smile, and then I looked up at Kyle. I was surprised to see a smug smile on his face as well. He tossed a Poke Ball into the air and a large Gliscor appeared in a flash of red light.

    "Gliscor! Finish the Wooper with a Night Slash!" Kyle called.

    The Gliscor let out a keening wail and dived towards the Wooper, who was now shaking in fright. His claws were dark, and they left streaks of blackness in the air as he moved. It almost looked like he was tearing open reality.

    I felt shocked. Maybe I was looking at this the wrong way, but it seemed like a bit of an overreaction to knock out a Pokemon simply because it wanted to finish a battle you started with it. I tapped one of the Poke Balls on my belt and Dual, my Gallade, burst out in a flash of blue light. His arm-blades glowed bright white, and he caught the Gliscor's Night Slash attack edge on edge. The Wooper cowered below him, and then it ran away squeaking for the safety of the lake. Dual watched it, and when it was at a safe distance he began freezing his blades from the base down to the tip, scaring the Gliscor back into the sky.

    "There wasn't really any need for that," I said to Kyle in a neutral tone. "If you didn't want to battle it, you could have just moved on and left it alone to begin with."

    The battle was about to end with a picture perfect scene that looked to be straight out of a movie. My Gliscor appeared behind the Wooper and lunged at it. My satisfaction turned to awe as a Gallade materialized between Gliscor and the Wooper. The new comer to the battle caught the attack on its blade, deflecting it in a way that looked even cooler than what I had anticipated. My Gliscor was retreating and had all the reason to as the Gallade began to freeze its blades. I recalled Gliscor and looked over at Ranger Chainy to lead the way onto another area of the Great Lakes.

    It was not as I expected. The Gallade returned to a Pokeball that he held in his hand. I then noticed this whole fiasco from his point of view, or someone else's at that. My grin vaporized as he expressed his views.

    "There wasn't really any need for that," He said to me, somewhat blandly for being possibly pissed. "If you didn't want to battle it, you could have just moved on and left it alone to begin with."

    The logic hit me head-on (I was never the logical sort). The fact that Wooper could have been ignored hit hard, also. I had never been able to ignore a Pokemon.

    "I am sorry, sir," I said solemnly. "There was a little misunderstanding, but I see what you are saying. It will not happen again."

    I began to walk off toward another section of lake, determined to change the way my Ranger thought of me. A thought hit me and I turned on my heel.

    "By the way, we really should battle sometime! That would be fun!" I shouted in his general direction.

    "I am sorry, sir, there was a little misunderstanding, but I see what you are saying. It will not happen again," Kyle said to me, sounding somewhat shocked. I took a quick look at his file, and it bore the mark that indicated he was a first-time visitor. Perhaps he just didn't know how things worked here. Besides, I didn't think he was the kind of person who would fight for no reason. He reminded me of my mother in that she concentrated on one thing very well to the exclusion of all others.

    Kyle began to walk off, but then he turned back. "By the way, we really should battle sometime! That would be fun!" he called back at me.

    I grinned, and jogged forward to catch up at him. "Ah, I dunno, I'm not very good a formal Pokemon battling," I said. "I mean, Dual is pretty powerful, but it seems to me that you're a bit of a Gliscor fan, and that would be a bad match-up on my part."

    Dual snorted. <I could take that if I wanted to,> he said telepathically to me.

    I shot him a look that silenced him.

    We continued around the edge of the lake, keeping an eye out for any Pokemon. Using the lens over my right eye to scan further ahead, I saw a Buizel practicing its Aqua Jet technique on a cluster of rocks pointing out of the sand. I leaned over to Kyle.

    "There's a Buizel up ahead, do you want to try and capture it?" I asked him. "Remember, you don't have to fight it, we can always just try to move past it if you're not interested."

    As the words slid out of my mouth, my Ranger's expression seemed to soften. It may have been my apologizing or it could have been something he saw on the file which he pulled out briefly. Either way, his opinion seemed to have changed for the better.

    He grinned at my comment and sprinted in order to catch up to me. "Ah, I dunno, I'm not very good at formal Pokemon battling," I said. "I mean, Dual is pretty powerful, but it seems to me that you're a bit of a Gliscor fan, and that would be a bad match-up on my part."

    His Gallade grunted, seemingly stating that he would like the challenge and I had to restrain myself from laughing.

    I followed him as he led the way around the lake.

    After a little while, we came upon a thicket along the coast. I was busy trying not to be sabered by the barbs, when Chainy tapped my shoulder.

    "There's a Buizel up ahead, do you want to try and capture it?" he asked me. "Remember, you don't have to fight it, we can always just try to move past it if you're not interested."

    I blanked out during the second part of the sentence as I was attempting to discern the water weasel Pokemon from the sand. I managed to succeed and was pleased to see that it was doing something cool. I quickly unpacked my camera and aimed it at the scene with its "Hyper Zoom" mode.

    The Buizel slammed into the rocks in a torrent of water and I snapped the picture simultaneously.

    OOC: I'm assuming you don't want to battle it, so moving on.

    ~~~~~
    No sooner were the words out of my mouth than Kyle had pulled out his camera. He took a little while to zoom in and centre the shot, and then he pressed the button just as the Buizel slammed into a rock. I shrugged. There was no way he'd be able to sell a picture of such a common Pokemon, but maybe he just wanted it for himself.
    After he had taken the picture, I decided to leave us away from the Buizel. If we went near it, it might decide to challenge us, and I was pretty sure Kyle didn't want to. We moved inland, towards a saltwater lake. On our way there, however, I saw another Pokemon. A Croagunk was picking at a berry bush, eating the ripe ones and stamping on the rotting ones, clearly enjoying the squishing sounds they made. I turned to Kyle.
    "How about a Croagunk? Feel like trying to capture one of them?" I asked him.
    OOC: Correct.
    As I took the picture, Chainy started leading me off away from the Buizel and towards a salty lake. We were walking along nonchalantly, when my Ranger stopped so abruptly that I nearly ran into him.
    "How about a Croagunk? Feel like trying to capture one of them?" he asked me.
    I peered over his shoulder and, sure enough, there was a frog Pokemon hopping up and down on some rotten berries, enjoying the squelching sounds they made. He was also eating a few ripe ones.
    "Gliscor!" I called out, hurling a Pokeball into the air, "let's start this battle! Attack it as fast as possible with a Night Slash!"
    Similar to the Wooper incident earlier, Gliscor's claws glowed with an eerily dark aura as it swooped down onto the Croagunk.
    "Gliscor, let's start this battle! Attack it as fast as possible with a Night Slash!" Kyle called out. His Gliscor swooped down from above, its claws covered in blackness like before. He screeched in an eerie way as it approached the Croagunk.
    The Croagunk heard the screech and turned to look. It's eyes opened wide as it saw its incoming attacker, and it instinctively shuddered upon realising that the opponent was a Flying type. It tried to drop to the ground and avoid the attack, but the Gliscor was too fast. He raked his claws as he swooped past, leaving distinctive marks on the Croagunk's back. But the Croagunk wasn't going to take this without striking back. Even as it was being attacked, it clasped his hands together so it looked like it was praying. Then, the second the Gliscor was looking away, it spun on its knees and breathed a blue mist at the Gliscor. The Gliscor was struck by the fast-moving fog, and he screeched unhappily. With a tremendous flap of his wings, he flew high into the sky and away from the Icy Wing attack.
    I raised my eyebrows in surprise. Not many Croagunk knew Icy Wind. This might turn out to be a very interesting battle.
    OOC: Male, please. And does this mean that it'll automatically have Ice Wind because I really want this guy.
    Gliscor swooped in and landed a hit, raking its claws down the Croagunk's back. The poison dart frog Pokemon seemed to glance the blow off as it readied a reprisal. Gliscor was going to swoop back to me, but something was wrong. An icy fog flooded out from the Croagunk's mouth and connected with my Pokemon, slowing it with the intense chill.
    I was astonished, and apparently my Ranger was, too. I had no idea that this Pokemon could learn such a move and I was caught off guard.
    "Gliscor!" I called to him. "Hit the Croagunk with your Quickest of Attacks to throw it into the air. While you are sky high, grab him and slam him into the ground to cause a force like an Earthquake, but hold back!I want this little guy for my own."
    It was a complicated setup, but if it was performed properly, it would be devastating. Gliscor may have had frost coating his wings and slowing him down, but a swift attack skyward would change the tables and if Gliscor would be able to complete it and slam the foe into the ground, it would work to epic perfection.
