    Ranger Makina Auron

    OOC: @Ebail

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“Hey, papergirl, your phone is going off!”

Makina, only half registering the voice, groaned and turned over in her sleep, trying her best to ignore this disruption. It was far too early, and she had been up most of the night trying to get some last-minute work done. Granted, it probably didn't help that she had tried to sneak in some playtime on one of her new games as well...

The voice grew louder, this time followed by a loud, insistent knocking on her door. “If you don't answer this soon, I'm letting Salamence use it as a chew toy,” the voice threatened.

“Alright already, I'm up!” Makina mumbled, steadily making her way out of bed. She opened the door and was greeted by the very angry face of her older sister, Serena. “You would think that that Park would remember that today is my day off...”

“Maybe they found some documents you didn't send out yet,” Serena smirked, shoving the cellphone over to Makina. While the phone was now silent, the blinking icon near the top showed that there was a new voicemail. “Next, time, keep your phone on you.”

“Sorry to disturb your ever-important life,” Makina muttered, watching her sister walk away like she had been highly affronted. Serena was her elder by several years, and was one of the senior Gym Trainers in Blackthorn City. The two often butted heads, and simply could not understand why she had decided to become something like a Ranger. May as well see what the message is, Makina mused, checking her mailbox.

“Hi, sorry to bother you on your day off, but we have a sudden entree wishing to enter the Park. You remember Eric, right? Well, he's back and the other Rangers are currently dead-middle in other runs or unable to be reached. If you can take this, just send a text to one of us and make your way to the Oktori front gate...” the message ended on that note, leaving the normal voicemail options requesting what to do next.

Makina, though a little annoyed for being bothered so early in the morning, grinned as she replayed the message. She did remember Eric, having talked to him a few times during work and even trading a few Pokemon in the past. It was good to hear that he was back, though the break room was likely already bemoaning the fact that their doughnuts would quickly be spirited away once more. She sent a quick text message back to the same number, stating that she would be there within the hour, and got ready to head out. Thankfully, she had Aria's Pokeball on hand at the moment, so she had plenty of time to grab something to eat first. Thirty minutes later, after raiding the family fridge and dealing with Serena once more, she called out Aria and explained the situation to her.

<This is rather sudden,> Aria remarked, giving a slight yawn. The Gardevoir, despite all her zeal for being prompt and serious, was usually a late riser. <you said Oktori, correct?>

“Yep, why do you ask?” Makina replied, wondering what Aria was thinking about. As far as she knew, her partner had no problem with cold weather.

<The reason I ask is because you hardly appear to be ready for a hike in that area,> the Gardevoir stated simply, pointing at her trainer's current wardrobe.

“What do you mea-” Makina began, looking down, and realized just what she meant, “Shit!” She was still wearing same long tshirt and long shorts that she slept in the night before. Grabbing a more suitable pair of clothes, she quickly changed and walked back to Aria, “Better?”

<Considering that now you won't freeze, yes,> Aria responded, holding out one her wispy arms towards Makina. <you humans are so scatterbrained...> On that note, the two were whisked away to Mount Oktori.

    @Akinai

"Ohh, why would I eat that much food before going on a run?" I asked myself. I hadn't visited the park in some time. I wanted to, but I figured I should take a little rest, and build up my system a little bit before going back to Mount Oktori. I mean I'm obviously not a bright individual, since I just ate a big meal, and well if I saw a Conkeldurr, or worse, a Conkeldurr hanging around a Makuhita, I'd be getting sick everywhere. Made me wonder if they could kick you out of the park for vomiting all over the place. I guess I shouldn't be thinking about such a thing though, since thinking about it too much could make it happen. Either way I figured I should focus on the task at hand, and prepare thoroughly for it. This had been a pretty dull winter to tell you the truth. Nothing more than about an inch of snow, and a lot of the days it'd hit fifty degrees in temperature, made it seem like an extended fall. I didn't like that. I enjoyed walking around out in the cold in shorts. In fact science has proven that being cold burns fat, and helps lose weight.

"Hmm let's see what I have to bring. Six Park Balls, seven Super Balls, and four Hyper Balls. Well those should be more than enough. Can't forget my Camera, or Apricorn Box, and well I may as well just take whatever was left over from my previous run. Got my sweatshirt, and my pair of shorts, so I should be good to go," I said, talking to myself. Good thing no one was around, or they might think I was crazy. I didn't want my ranger to think I was though, so I figured it'd probably be a good idea to have some Pokemon walk alongside me. I just didn't know which one though. Chandelure didn't particularly seem like a good idea, what with its flames being near snow and all. I didn't wanna really have Zoroark out, outside of a battle. So that left Scizor, or Ambipom, and how could I not go with the purple monkey?

"All right then Ambipom, seems like you'll be accompanying me," I said, letting it out of its Pokeball. It seemed interested in going on this run with me. I couldn't blame it. During our last run together I had out Gardevoir, and Ambipom never even managed to see the light of battle before leaving so. I'm sure I'd run into a nice Ice-type it could battle though, or if I really wanted to test its power, a Fighting-type would do just fine. I couldn't get ahead of myself though, cause there was always the chance of encountering nothing but pure crap, but hey if I thought like that it'd happen, right?

"Ready to go Ambipom?" I asked the monkey, who turned to me an nodded. With that we were on our way to the ranger outpost.

Sometime later...ignoring pointless, unnecessary filler that no one cares about.

"All right, we got here a lot faster than I hoped! It was almost as if a big gap of time was somehow skipped," I said happily to Ambipom, or myself perhaps. Either way I sliced it though, I was here now, and I figured I should go introduce myself to whoever it was that appeared to be my ranger.

"Hi there, my names Eric, and this is my Ambipom...Ambipom," I said to the woman, extending my hand. I couldn't help but shake the fact that I knew her from somewhere, but where. Having taking a slight break did make my brain a bit fuzzy, well that, and those blows to the head I took. "I'm sorry, but you seem awfully familiar. Do I know you?" I asked out of curiosity, hoping I didn't just make myself seem like a fool.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    OOC: @Ebail

    *~~~~~~~~~*

As it would seem, Makina didn't have to wait long at all for her Trainer to arrive. She had scarcely been waiting five minutes when she heard the sound of approaching footsteps, followed soon by Eric walking towards the front gate. Beside him walked a large purple Pokemon, monkey-like in feature and clearly happy to be walking about.

“Hi there, my names Eric, and this is my Ambipom...Ambipom,” Eric said, holding out a hand towards Makina in greeting. He paused a moment, as if trying to remember something but being unable to recall what exactly it was, “I'm sorry, but you seem awfully familiar. Do I know you?”

<This one is even more scatterbrained than you, and that's saying something,> Aria remarked wryly to Makina, looking over at the human.

I'll remember that little remark next time Serena is harassing you about something, Makina replied silently, allowing a small smile as she shook Eric's hand in return. “I'm sort of surprised that you don't remember, but maybe it has been a while. I'm Makina, we talked a few times before and did a bit of trading Pokemon while I was on vacation.” With that out of the way she walked towards the front gate, unlocking it and motioning for them to go through, “Let's get started, shall we?”

Once the group was through, Makina hastily proceeded to close and lock the gate behind them, at least as quickly as it was possible to do so in such a frigid environment and while wearing gloves. While it did snow often near her hometown due to being in a mountain region, she never did care for cold weather. Once that was done, she faced Eric and began with the question she tried to ask everyone at the beginning of a Run, “Before we continue, is there anything in particular that you're looking for in this area? If so, we could try heading to the places they are most likely to be first.”

Before Eric could reply, a sound that was somewhat similar to one clearing their throat caused them to look forward, towards the trail leading towards a nearby cave. Standing barely a few feet in front of them was a Delibird, looking slightly irritated that it had been ignored. It clutched its tail that doubled as a sack tightly, as if it was carrying something of importance.

“Guess I should have looked around first,” Makina said as a sort of apology to the Ice-type, then glanced over at Eric. “Interested in a Delibird?”

“I'm sort of surprised that you don't remember, but maybe it has been a while. I'm Makina, we talked a few times before and did a bit of trading Pokemon while I was on vacation,” she said to me, as she went over to unlock the front gate. It had dawned on me right then who she was. I can't believe I had forgotten. Maybe it was the chair shot I took to the head a week ago, or maybe she was pushed to the back of my mind, due to the whole Conkeldurr and Makuhita incident she knew about with me. As far as I knew only me and her even knew about that thing anyway, and what with being at Mount Oktori which was home to those two creatures, well, it was a scary thought.

"I apologize, I can't believe I forgot who you were for a short time. I don't know if you know or not, but I had actually been taking a short break away from here, and as such I forgot a few faces. I do apologize either way though, as I've stated," I said to Makina. It was nice to have a ranger I was familiar with actually. Meant I could joke around with them, since I knew she wasn't too serious. I mean I knew she took her job seriously, but Makina wasn't much of a serious person in general, and hopefully because of that this trip through Mount Oktori would be fun.

“Let's get started, shall we?” she said, and with that we were off. I didn't know what awaited me here, but I was rather excited to be visiting here. The last time I came to Oktori I ended up leaving with a Vanillite, a Gurdurr, and a Sneasel, all three of which are no longer under my ownership. That was okay though, I enjoyed trading Pokemon I caught in the park to people who didn't have the time to visit the park themselves. Though this time around I had a few things in mind that I wanted for me. Nothing too major, but some stuff that I found could be helpful, or maybe make for a nice gift.

“Before we continue, is there anything in particular that you're looking for in this area? If so, we could try heading to the places they are most likely to be first," Makina turned to me, asking. It didn't really dawn on me what I specifically wanted. I knew of some stuff I'd be happy to encounter, but as far as something I'd wanted off the bat I had no idea. I didn't even get a chance to answer though, as something got in our way.

“Guess I should have looked around first. Interested in a Delibird?” Makina said, and asked.

What is this thing? It looks like Private from the Penguins of Madagascar fused together with Santa Claus. I thought to myself. I knew it was a Delibird, but I hadn't actually ever seen one up close. It was a Flying-type which actually interested me since I was trying to collect them all, but at the same time penguins were flightless birds, so it was like it was actually a lie. Well, I had no interest in capturing a liar. Then again I did own a Gyarados who couldn't fly, but it was more Dragon like, than Flying, and it wasn't even a Dragon. Pokemon confused me way too much. I just figured I should probably answer Makina before I keep thinking about why I don't want this.

"No thanks. Sure it's a Flying-type, but as far as I remember Delibird isn't that good. I'd like to pass if possible, but if I can't then I'll use one of the Pokedolls I have. Also, I don't really have something in mind that I'm looking for, so you can just lead me to any area you like," I said to Makina.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Eric looked over at the Delibird confusedly, as if he had never seen the Pokemon before. While it was possible that he had never seen a real one this close before, Makina doubted that he had never at least seen a picture of them; after all, their picture was plastered everywhere in stores during the holidays. Finally, Eric shook his head in response, “No thanks. Sure it's a Flying-type, but as far as I remember Delibird isn't that good. I'd like to pass if possible, but if I can't then I'll use one of the Pokedolls I have. Also, I don't really have something in mind that I'm looking for, so you can just lead me to any area you like.”

“Alright, fair enough. Let's see if this little guy will let us pass first though,” Makina said, looking down at the Delibird.

While it appeared at first that they would have a fight on their hands- apparently the Ice-type had overheard Eric's comment about it not being 'that good' and was beginning to puff up in anger, but appeared to have second thoughts as Ambipom stepped in front of the two. Giving a slight huff of annoyance, the Delibird stuck its beak into the air and waddled off.

Makina grinned over at the Ambipom, applauding how it (make that a “he” she corrected herself, skimming her PDA for the Pokemon's bio) stood up to defend Eric, “Well, that was easy enough. Let's check out the cave first, since it's closer and you're not sure what exactly you want here, right?” Not to mention it's out of this blasted wind, Makina added silently, shivering slightly. Even though she had brought along a thick coat to deal with the weather, just seeing all the snow about made her feel cold. With that, she led the group towards the nearby cave.

Once inside, it was plain to see that it was not a true cave after all; the ceiling was completely uncovered, allowing sunlight and, most importantly, snow fall in. The tunnel was fairly small, only leading about a hundred feet in before coming to a dead end. Fortunately, their exploration had not been one in vain. As they reached the end, a small gray form was pounding at the rocky walls, using them in a form akin to a punching bag.

“Looks like it hasn't noticed us yet,” Makina nodded over to the creature before continuing, “We can probably leave with no trouble, but did you want a Machop?”

“Alright, fair enough. Let's see if this little guy will let us pass first though,” Makina said to me, while looking at Delibird.

Delibird at first seemed like it wanted to fight, but when Ambipom got ready like it would go at it, Delibird took off. If anything this proved how it wasn't that good, and fled before needing to face off against a clearly superior Pokemon. Couldn't blame it though, Ambipom was a tough one, and despite any beating it'd take, it would always want to get back up and keep battling. Oh well though, guess Ambipom would need to wait a little longer to show off his skills. It's for the best anyway, even if it did battle Delibird I still would have had no interest in capturing the thing.

“Well, that was easy enough. Let's check out the cave first, since it's closer and you're not sure what exactly you want here, right?” Makina said. I had no reason to argue with that. The cave generally was a good starting point for Oktori anyway, and it was a little warmer in there. I didn't particularly care about that, but Makina seemed to be pretty cold being out in this wind. That was understandable, not everybody trains their body for harsh conditions by doing something like wearing shorts here. The way I see it is that if I'm ever trapped in a blizzard or something my body would have, hopefully, adapted to the temperature, and I'd be able to survive longer. You can never be too ready for anything. After thinking this I looked at Makina and nodded.

When we got into the cave it hadn't looked like any cave I'd ever seen, but rather a volcano. The top was uncovered, and both sunlight, and snow were able to come in. Sunlight, and snow made me laugh a little. It's like those days when it would rain out, and I'd look the left of my house where it'd be pouring, but to the right the sun would be shinning. Weather could certainly be an interesting thing, but this was neither the time, nor place to be reminiscing on how weather is, because despite this area being the way it was there had been a Pokemon here. It was a little, gray Pokemon, which had been punching at the cave walls. Despite how it looked, it was actually rather powerful, and was even more so once it fully evolved.

“Looks like it hasn't noticed us yet. We can probably leave with no trouble, but did you want a Machop?” Makina asked. Machamp was a pretty good Pokemon to tell you the truth, even though it had some set backs. It couldn't take a hit that good, and it was also very slow, but it had a very good movepool to work with, and while its ability No Guard meant opponents moves can't miss, Machamp's also couldn't.

"Well, this isn't exactly the best time to nitpick with what I get. For all I know I could end up running into thirteen more Machop. Also Machamp isn't that bad, and besides if I decide later on that I really don't want Machop I could always release it before leaving. So I'll battle it, but I think I should get its attention first. Taking a cheap shot while it isn't looking isn't my style," I said. Before all else though I needed to send out something to battle with it. I figured Scizor should get the job done nicely. With that thought in mind I sent out the red, pincer Pokemon. Scizor had been at my side for a long time now, due to the generosity of a good friend, and I was well aware of its power. Now that it was out, and ready for battle all I needed to do was nab Machop's attention.

I clapped together my hands pretty hard, and yelled out, "hey Machop, instead of punching that wall why don't you see if you can hit Scizor over here!" If that didn't get Machop's attention then nothing but an attack would. "Okay Scizor, I don't want you to play around with this thing. Get a Wing Attack ready for when it turns around, and if it doesn't turn around within a minute then just go ahead and attack. Remember though, wait to see if it turns around first," I commanded to Scizor, who nodded. Wing Attack was as its name sounded. Scizor would go over to Machop, and strike it down with a powerful blow from its wings. Due to Technician, and STAB, Wing Attack was seen as a key attack of Scyther's, the pre-evolved form of Scizor. Even though Scizor lost the STAB boost here, Wing Attack was still very powerful, I just hoped not too powerful, or this battle would be over before it'd even begin.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    OOC: Machop's gender?

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Eric looked over at the Machop, as if he was mulling over the decision to capture it or not. While Machop were a powerhouse in their own right when they evolved, they weren't exactly a rare sight in this area; a fact that her Trainer was most likely already aware of due to being a fellow Ranger. Finally, he appeared to come to a decision, “So I'll battle it, but I think I should get its attention first. Taking a cheap shot while it isn't looking isn't my style.” With that, he retrieved a Pokeball and tossed it forward, revealing the metallic red form of a Scizor.

<Interesting choice,> Aria remarked, stepping back towards the rock wall closest to them as she gave room for the new Pokemon to work out his strategy. <Using something like this against a Fighting opponent seems reckless though.>

He'll be fine. Makina replied back across the link, Scizor isn't a pure Steel-type, so it will take neutral damage at worst. Plus, It will be interesting to see one in action. They're not exactly common, you know. This was true enough; Scyther were a rare enough sight alone, but it was almost unheard of to find their evolution.

Scizor paid no heed to the Gardevoir and human, keeping his gaze over at the nearby Machop, still going at it with the wall. Either the Fighting-type had tunnel vision, or it simply did not care that it had visitors.

Eric, seeing this, sought to remedy this situation quickly. “Hey Machop, instead of punching that wall why don't you see if you can hit Scizor over here!” he shouted, clapping his hands together loudly and pointing over at his partner.

Machop instantly whirled about from the sound, now highly annoyed. Here it was, trying to train in relative peace and quiet, and now some human had the gall to interrupt it? Lowering its head, the Machop charged forward with an impressive speed.

<Idiot. What does it think it is, a Rhyhorn?> Aria huffed, her partner nodding in agreement. The Machop had to have a reckless personality, charging towards a clearly more experienced Pokemon without a second thought.

Scizor, noticing his opponent's foolish assault, unsheathed his wings and lifted off from the ground, smirking at the Machop as it grew closer. However, at the last moment Machop sped up even faster, managing to hit the Steel-type in his right leg before he could fly fully out of range. Knocked slightly off balanced and more than just a little bewildered, Scizor flew up higher before commencing with his counterattack.

Makina, trying to figure out what had just happened as well, thought back on the possible abilities Machop had in its arsenal. This had to be No Guard, an innate ability that allowed the Pokemon to always get an attack in while in turn being unable to dodge as well. No wonder this Machop was so foolhardy!

Scizor swept down for a quick strike, slicing the Machop across the chest with one of his sharp wings. The wild Pokemon winced and took a step back, but it was clear that it could last quite a while longer. For now, it glared at the airborne Pincer Pokemon and grabbed a nearby large rock, the object half-buried in the snow. The Machop hurled the chunk at Scizor, striking one of his wings dead-on.

Scizor immediately landed, albeit a bit quicker then anticipated due to the injured limb. He tested the wing, wincing slightly as he did so; while it still appeared to work, it was clear that the Pokemon would be much less mobile for now.

Thankfully I was able to nab Machop's attention before Scizor landed a blow on it. Now, granted this meant that Scizor was very likely to be hit with some damage, but still just attacking this Machop from behind while it was trying to train didn't feel right. Some people might argue that, and say it's best to take whatever opening you're offered, but hey if I'm gonna take a cheap shot, I'm gonna wait until it counts, such as later on, not right away where you just anger the opponent. Then again just yelling out at this Machop seems to have been enough to anger it, seeing as how it was now charging directly at Scizor. Although Scizor tried to avoid it, Machop's head collided with one of its legs. Made me wish I knew Machop would attempt Headbutt, because I could have then had Scizor use Iron Head and see who had the harder head. Too late for that though, I just needed to focus on what it was doing next.

Before it could act again though, Scizor got Machop across the chest with one of its wings. This didn't really slow down Machop in the least bit though. It picked up something from the snow, but at first glance I couldn't tell what it was, but whatever it was got hurled at Scizor. As it came closer I could tell it was a rock, so if I had to guess I'd assume that Machop was using Rock Throw, but when Scizor was hit this didn't seem like that. Scizor actually seemed slower now. I wasn't sure if this was due to the blow it took the leg, or the wing, or what, but either way I wasn't exactly going to allow that to stop us here. Sure it was powerful, but against a Steel-type Pokemon, even if it was half Bug-type, these attacks wouldn't do too much to it.

"Well, well, look at you over there. I don't think you should have used that Headbutt though, because now you're gonna see what it's like to be hit with a real headbutt. Scizor, whenever you're ready, hit that thing with an Iron Head!" I commanded. I didn't know what was gonna come next from Machop, but I did know that it would be something, probably.

Iron Head was essentially a Steel-type version of Headbutt. The user would tighten their focus a little, and make their head as hard as steel, or in the case of a Steel-type Pokemon even harder than steel. And they would then go over and headbutt the opposing Pokemon. If this Machop really had No Guard, as I suspected it did, then it would feel the force of a real headbutt, not like the one it itself used against Scizor. Of course though if Scizor truly was slower, or in pain, then it might not get the full force of the attack, or Machop might get off an attack first, and cause Scizor to mess up. But meh, I couldn't particularly worry about what ifs, not during the first stinking battle of this run.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Despite Scizor's slight handicap, Eric didn't appear the least bit concerned about Machop taking him down. “Well, well, look at you over there. I don't think you should have used that Headbutt though, because now you're gonna see what it's like to be hit with a real headbutt.” he taunted at the wild Fighting-type before turning to Scizor. “Scizor, whenever you're ready, hit that thing with an Iron Head!”

Makina did a double take as she looked over at her Trainer, wondering if he had indeed hit hit his head too hard while on his leave. While Machop was hardly the most durable Pokemon out there, it was dangerous to taunt any Pokemon, especially Fighting Pokemon. Still, maybe Eric had a plan; for now she would just observe.

Scizor gave a slight nod, repositioning himself for a ramming charge. Machop, taking up the challenge, lowered his head as well, in turn trying to guard the other parts of his body. For a moment there was dead silence, both Pokemon refusing to move first but not wanting to lag behind as well. Without warning both Pokemon charged forward, meeting in the middle and giving off a resounding thud as their skulls collided, dazing the two simultaneously.

<Well, that's one way for them to use their head. Can't say I agree though...>For once, Aria appeared to be enjoying the spectacle, though it was more the amusement of watching two children refusing to give in more than anything else. <If they keep this up, we're going to be here until nightfall.>

Not necessarily, Makina replied carefully. One is bound to switch to less direct methods eventually. Plus, it's not like Eric brought along a single Pokemon after all.

Machop appeared to recover first, moving a couple steps back as he tried to decide what to do next- perhaps the head-on collision had knocked some sense into him for this battle. Looking skyward, the humanshape Pokemon let out a loud roar, causing rays of light to pierce down from above. It was trying to use Sunny Day; something that could turn the battle to Machop's favor if this continued on.

It was a meeting of the minds...literally. While Scizor charged at Machop to bash its head into it, Machop retaliated this was another head attacking move of its own, Skull Bash. The two heads collided, and while Machop had increased its defense a little, due to the secondary effect of Skull Bash, its head was no match for Scizor's. Machop started to recover, and using its power it appeared like it was trying to intensify the sun. This could have only meant it was going to try and use Sunny Day. It was possible that this Machop was cold, and just wanted the sun to warm it up a little, but it was much more likely that it had a reason for the sun being around in mind. I couldn't really figure it out though, unless it had in mind attempting a Fire Punch. Fire was Scizor's only weakness, so much so that it actually had a quadruple weakness to it, and if the sun was around a Fire-type move could be even more powerful. But Machop wasn't that crafty...was it? I couldn't really take the chance of it doing some major damage to Scizor though. I needed to try to wrap this up quickly.

"Okay Scizor, we've given this Machop more than enough time to do as it pleases. It's time to go at it full force, and now that it raised its defense I'm not concerned about doing this. Hit it with an Acrobatics," I commanded. This was a powerful move, not one to be taken lightly, but Machop had a good deal of fight left in it, and could take a hit. If it couldn't withstand this attack though then it wasn't even worth my time trying to capture it in the first place. I wouldn't usually rush things like this, but I didn't want to give Machop this chance to set up. I wanted to try to stop it before it had the chance to get the sun going.

Half of the time Acrobatics was stronger than Wing Attack, and half the time it was weaker. This was based on whether or not the Pokemon using the attack was holding onto an item or not. If they weren't holding an item, Acrobatics would be twice as strong. I had no idea how that worked, but I didn't care since right now Scizor wasn't holding onto an item. The user would zip over at the opposing Pokemon, and in an instant strike them with their claw, hand, or whatever they had, from bottom to top, and leave the spot quickly. This had the potential to be one of the most deadly moves ever used. If you combined this was a Flying Gem, that gem would boost the full power Acrobatics. That's something that isn't pretty.

I didn't want to waste any time though. The second Scizor hit Machop I intended to attempt to capture it. I put my bag down, and pulled out a Park Ball before Scizor actually attacked. I made it full size, and set my sights on Machop. This was just a matter of timing.

"Scizor, once you hit Machop make sure you get out of the way," I said. Scizor turned and nodded. It had been in this sort of situation before, so it knew why I wanted it to attack and get out of the way. With any luck I'd be able to capture this thing before it had the chance to do any more damage, or maybe it wasn't time for this battle to end just yet. I guess I'd find out what would happen in a matter of moments.

Seeing the sunlight grow ever stronger, Eric reacted quickly. “Okay Scizor, we've given this Machop more than enough time to do as it pleases. It's time to go at it full force, and now that it raised its defense I'm not concerned about doing this. Hit it with an Acrobatics,” he commanded.

Scizor zipped forward, opting to use his legs rather than fly thanks to his wing being damaged earlier. Thankfully, Machop was still finishing up the Sunny Day and could not react quickly. Once within range, the Pincer Pokemon did a sort of backflip, striking the Machop with his rear legs before backing off once more.

At this point, Eric had pulled out a Parkball and was carefully taking his aim. “Get out of the way,” he warned his partner, throwing the sphere forward once Scizor moved to the side.

Machop, seeing his opponent move away, began to ball up a fist. In moments the hand was engulfed in flames, made stronger by the harsh sunlight in the area. A few of the flames licked Scizor, causing some of his armor within range to slightly melt, but Eric's Parkball struck the Fighting-type before the blow could connect. The sphere rocked about dangerously, and it looked as if the Machop would be successful in breaking free after all. Fortunately, it came to a still and let off a small ping.

“That was... random, to say the least,” Makina remarked, walking over to Machop's Ball and storing it away in a side pocket. “Scizor did well though, all circumstances considered. Just tell me when you're ready, and we can head out.”

Machop was captured, which was a good thing. It proved it had plenty of fight in it, and would be a powerful Machamp hopefully. Plus Machamp had four arms rather than two, and if my math is any good then four is better than two. It could hold the opposing Pokemon with two of the arms, and punch it with the other two. This of course was provided that I actually held onto the thing, or even left the park with it, but the only way to find out would to be to complete the run.

"Good going Scizor. You handled that perfectly, and you have plenty of strength in case I need to call upon you to battle again this run. Until then get some rest in your ball," I said, as I returned Scizor to its Pokeball. With this I turned to Ambipom and smiled. Ambipom always liked when I added another Pokemon to my collection, because it meant another playmate for it. Before I said anything though, Makina started walking over to the ball to put it away.

“That was... random, to say the least. Scizor did well though, all circumstances considered. Just tell me when you're ready, and we can head out,” Makina said.

"Now that Scizor is back in its ball I'm good to go whenever you're ready," I said. I wasn't sure what else awaited me here in Mount Oktori, but I was hopeful that there would be some more good battles, and fun times to come.

In the short time it had taken Makina to store away Machop's Ball, Eric was already ready to continue on. “Now that Scizor is back in its ball I'm good to go whenever you're ready,” he said, clearly eager to see what else lay in store for them.

Makina nodded, leading them out of the pseudo-cave and opting for a nearby mountain trail as well. Snow was falling lightly now; hardly a flurry, just the stray snowflake or too that promised that more was yet to come. Judging from the cloudy skies, there would indeed be heavier snowfall as they made their way up the mountain. Thankfully, due to the massive cave system outlying this area, they were bound to find shelter before travel became too difficult.

They had been traveling along the path not long, barely a few minutes, when a yellow blur rushed out in front of them from the hollow of a long-dead tree lying beside the path. It was so focused on trying to outrun something that the creature nearly ran into Ambipom, causing both Pokemon to stop in place. When the lizardlike Pokemon took a closer look at what it had nearly collided with, it stood petrified in place, looking back worriedly.

“Takes something truly fearsome to scare a Scraggy like that,” Makina mused. Want to help it out, or were you looking for a battle instead?”

We were off again, but things were a little different from just a little while ago. The snow had started to really let up. It wasn't much more than flurries now, but based on how the sky above us was looking I knew that some more heavy snow was on the way. Of course I wasn't particularly sure when it would begin, because overcast skies were always a very fickle thing. While they gave you the hints of rain, or snow coming, you never could actually tell when. It could be a matter of minute, or a matter of hours. There was a decent chance of us making it somewhere covered before it started, but that was provided on what came my way next. If it was something that I actually wanted to battle, and took a long time to go down, then it could keep us here as the snow restarted. Or it could have been an Ice-type that used its powers to speed the snow up. I wasn't really sure, but I was bound to found out sooner or later.

We were walking down the path a few minutes when something from inside a dead hollow tree ran out. I couldn't make out what it was at first, but it was definitely yellow. That's when I thought to myself, n-no...it couldn't be....could it? Not a Makuhita! I was going to be terrified if that creature showed up here and now. Whatever it was it nearly collided with Ambipom. If it was a Makuhita I was going to show it no mercy for that. Though as I was finally able to get a good look at it, I could see clearly that it wasn't one, what a relief that was. It was a lizard-like Pokemon. It looked as though it was trying to hold up its....pants? Do Pokemon wear pants? I know Gardevoir appeared to be wearing a dress, but pants were a completely different thing. It had oval shaped eyes at the side of its head, and some freaky teeth. While it did have a cream body, it had a red, scaly belly. Most of its head, as well as its pants, were yellow in color.

“Takes something truly fearsome to scare a Scraggy like that. Want to help it out, or were you looking for a battle instead?” Makina asked. She brought up a good point. Something clearly had spooked this thing, and helping it would have been the right thing to do, but at the same time I had wanted another Scrafty since I ended up giving mine away. On the flip side of things due to the STAB it had, Scraggy had an upper hand over Ambipom, Chandelure, and Zoroark, and since Scizor had just battled it was too soon for it again. I was conflicted, really I was. I wanted this Scraggy, but I knew what the right thing to do was.

"Well Makina I really wanted a Scraggy, but based on the look of this thing it seems to be too scared to battle. It wouldn't be right, what with its current mind frame. So, I think it's probably better if I just go ahead and help it, rather than attacking it. I should warn you though, if what scared it was a Makuhita, or a Conkeldurr, I will go insane. Just a friendly heads up," I said to Makina, as I looked over at Scraggy, and then Ambipom, nodding so it knew the brace itself.

Eric looked down at the Scraggy, clearly struggling as he tried to decide what to do next. After all, Scraggy were far more uncommon than Machop, and their Moxie ability made them a downright deadly sweeper if done right. However, he finally shook his head in response, finally coming to a decision. "Well Makina I really wanted a Scraggy, but based on the look of this thing it seems to be too scared to battle. It wouldn't be right, what with its current mind frame. So, I think it's probably better if I just go ahead and help it, rather than attacking it,” he said with a hint of reluctance.

Makina, understanding Eric's current dilemma, gave a short nod. While it was highly likely that he could have possibly asked the Scraggy for a battle after helping it out, it did seem odd to just turn around and sucker punch the Pokemon right after. A difficult choice, but most likely the best one.

“I should warn you though, if what scared it was a Makuhita, or a Conkeldurr, I will go insane. Just a friendly heads up," Eric cheerfully added, though his face stayed dead serious.

“I wouldn't blame you there!” Makina agreed wholeheartedly, unable to hide a grin. It appeared as if Eric still remembered that day quite well, and was still a little shaken up about it. Then again, they had been his Pokemon...

Scraggy, seeing that they had were friends instead of foes, had stopped shaking and was now looking curiously over at Eric, trying to see if the human was serious. The Dark-type reached into the baggy leg-folds of his lower body, pulling out a spherical object and offering it to him as a sort of peace offering.

“Looks like a Yellow Apricorn,” Makina remarked, peering down at the object. “I'd suggest taking it, if Scraggy is that insistent.”

Scraggy planted the Apricorn in Eric's hands, then immediately pointed over to a nearby tree, the same one it had been hiding in earlier in fact. Apparently whatever was tormenting him at the moment still lay lurking inside.

“I can't see a blasted thing...” Aria, mind shining a light over there? Makina asked the Gardevoir. Moments later, a small violet light flickered into existence, floating slowly over to the tree and stopping inches away from the hollow. The light revealed nothing, but was winked out a few seconds later as a shard of ice collided with it. A dark-furred bipedal Pokemon jumped out of the tree hollow, its claws gleaming as it looked menacingly towards them.

“There's our culprit. Wonder why a Sneasel would torment a Scraggy though?” Makina said.

“I wouldn't blame you there!” Makina replied to my comment about Makuhita, and Conkeldurr. She knew, she knew the whole thing. If you want good nightmare fuel, then just learn all about that one story. Onto the matter at hand though, Scraggy. I was going out of my way to help it, so whatever was going to be taking its place on the battlefield was hopefully worth my time. I was a busy person you know, I mean I still had a couple of areas of the park I needed to visit, such as the Lakes again, the Gardens, and the Woods. I wouldn't be happy until I left each area of the Park with three Pokemon. I was fairly sure I could manage that here, I mean I had before, and if I had wanted I could have easily capture Delibird, and Scraggy, along with Machop, and already taken off, but where's the fun in that? I wasn't just here to capture some Pokemon, I was here to have an enjoyable time.

“Looks like a Yellow Apricorn. I'd suggest taking it, if Scraggy is that insistent.” Makina said. To which I thought that this was a good find. I could throw it at a squirrel if I wanted. Or, I guess, I could use it for the more practical reason of making a special ball to use in the Park. Yellow Apricorns did help make balls for; Mount Deckbi, Mount Oktori, and the Power Plant. Pretty good if I wanted to go catch some stuff like a Porygon, or a Rotom, or a Larvesta or something. Kinda pointless to make a ball for here though, since I won't be returning here any time soon most likely. Still though I should probably worry about what to do with my apricorns after I take care of my business here.

Suddenly, out from the darkness came a weasel looking creature. It was sort of dark blue, or perhaps black in color. Its left ear looked rather big, and red in color, or so I would have thought if this was the first time I ever saw this Pokemon. I knew though that it was just a feather like growth, similar to the ones that it had on its back. It also had two little gold marks, but the one feature that stands out most on it are its razor sharp claws. These claws were very dangerous, so much so that even the slightest touch, and you could be cut. This was a powerful Pokemon, one that I once owned, but ended up trading for a Porygon-Z, but still something didn't add up here.

“There's our culprit. Wonder why a Sneasel would torment a Scraggy though?” Makina asked. I had to wonder that one myself too, but also needed to question Scraggy. Not like I was going to get an answer, of for that matter even understand it, but still.

"This is the thing that scared you? But you are a Fighting-type, no? Sneasel is Ice, and Dark, so with your type you should have been able to easily knock it away with one blow. I just don't understand this," I said. It was true, with the way Scraggy was it should have easily been able to deal with this Sneasel if it was really giving it some trouble. So what could it be that it was afraid of? It just didn't make sense, but I suppose there was really nothing I could do about this, besides take matters into my own hands.

"Well, since you've seem to have given this Scraggy a scare, I guess I'll need to battle you now," I said, pointing at Sneasel. It worked out anyway, since I somewhat wanted a Sneasel, but if I hung around here too long and caught too many things then I might not leave with it. Sure Weavile was both fast, and powerful, but it was also frail. It had that Stealth Rock weakness, a weakness to the ever common Fire-type, and of course the crippling four times weakness to Fighting. Still though, you couldn't ignore the speed it had on the common pseudos, Garchomp, Dragonite, Salamence, and Tyranitar. With Ice Punch, and Low Kick at its side it easily handled them. It was conflicting really, but I figured I'd give it a go, and attempt to catch it since I had some extra balls with me.

"I think you can handle this one Ambipom," I said, as I glanced over at it. Normally I'd have Scizor deal with a Sneasel, but it was still resting from its battle with Machop. Ambipom would be plenty good here though. It did after all have a lot of moves at its side, several of which could do some serious damage, or slow down Sneasel. The real question though was how should I start things? Sure there was always the standard Fake Out, but that was boring, and redundant, plus, being a Pokemon that can learn Fake Out itself, Sneasel may have been expecting that. Couldn't have it knowing what was coming, and dodging it. I figured if I was going to go at this thing like I wanted it, then it would be best to go at it at full force.

"Okay Ambipom, attack that Sneasel with a Fire Punch!" I commanded. Ambipom loved to do punching attacks, though it never actually used its arms to throw the punch. It would take one of its tails, generally the right unless it used both at once for two punches, and would take the end on it which was like a hand, and use it as a fist. That was probably for the best anyway seeing as how it had very tiny arms to begin with. Whenever Ambipom was ready it was going to throw its tail up, and start to heat up its tail. Fire Punch was as it sounded. The users fist would erupt in a blaze, and then they would punch the opposing Pokemon. This could even burn the Pokemon it hit, though that chance was slim. I was curious to see how Sneasel would respond to this first attack, and hopefully find out why Scraggy was frightened of it.

Eric seemed surprised to see that a Sneasel had been the source of the Scraggy's problems; after all, Scraggy had both a move and type advantage to take on the Sharp Claw Pokemon and easily win. He even pointed this out to the Fighting-type, explaining how just a single blow could knock out its assailant. In return, the Scraggy simply hid behind the Trainer, wanting nothing to do with the Sneasel.

“Type advantages don't always mean a guaranteed win,” Makina pointed out. “Plus, there may be more behind this than we know.” She debated on asking Aria to help figure out what was going on with the two wild Pokemon, but the Gardevoir seemed content to stand back and watch the show, giving a small smug smile. If her partner knew what was happening, she didn't feel that it was worth telling them just yet.

Still shaking his head over the odd situation, Eric turned towards the Sneasel. “Well, since you've seem to have given this Scraggy a scare, I guess I'll need to battle you now,” he said, pointing over at the Sneasel in challenge. “I think you can handle this one Ambipom.”

At hearing his name called Ambipom quickly made his way in front of Eric, placing himself directly in front of the Sneasel. The Long Tail Pokemon was still grinning as most of his species normally does, taking test punches at the air with his fists and twin tails.

“Okay Ambipom, attack that Sneasel with a Fire Punch!” Eric commanded. It was apparent that he wished to start off this battle with a move that would leave the Sneasel hurting.

Ambipom rushed towards his opponent with zeal, one of his tails igniting with a brilliant fire as he did so. Sneasel, on the other hand, appeared to be bored and simply braced itself for the hit. The simian Pokemon leapt into the air at the last moment, giving a small flip before it struck the Sneasel hard with the tail and causing it to step back.

As the blow connected, Sneasel began to slightly glow an ebony shade, appearing to absorb the damage. In an eyeblink, the Ice-type slashed at Ambipom, its attack amplified from the Fire Punch. Ambipom was knocked back towards Eric from the blow, his eyes widened from the increased damage.

Though Sneasel still slightly winced from Ambipom's attack, it still seemed rather nonplussed by the entire situation- until it spotted Scraggy hiding close by. Instantly the Pokemon flared up in anger, shouting obscenities at the other wild Pokemon as if it could hardly believe its eyes. It was in this moment, due to the feathery tuft on the Sneasel's ear sticking up as it shouted at the Scraggy, that it was revealed to be a female.

Without warning, the shout turned into a scream, directed towards Ambipom and causing him to cover his ears in pain. If Eric was quick, it would be possible to kill the sound before it did any lasting damage.

Ambipom connected with its punch, but that wasn't the only force to be felt at this point in time. Sure the flames were bound to slow Sneasel down a little, but they didn't leave a burn, and now Sneasel had what it wanted; it was hurt. Normally getting damaged is a bad thing, but in the case of this Sneasel it seemed like it wanted to be hurt. I wasn't sure why, short of it being a glutton for pain, that is until I saw what Sneasel was doing. Its fists started to glow a very dark shade of purple, or perhaps black, and it nailed Ambipom with a powerful body blow, sending it back at me. I'd seen, and been in more than enough battles in my day to know that it was using Payback, a very deadly move on a Pokemon such as a Weavile, or Tyranitar. It did average damage, but when the user was dealt some damage before attacking it would double in power. It was truly like giving some payback. This wasn't too much of a setback though, I knew Ambipom could easily withstand more than this. Though this didn't mean Sneasel was slowing down either.

Sneasel seemed to be focused on the minimal damage it took, that is until it saw Scraggy hiding around. It started to shout at the Scraggy, I didn't know what cause I didn't speak Pokemon, and I didn't have my Gardevoir on hand to translate, but I could tell it was either very angry, or hungry and wanted to eat Scraggy. The latter of the two somehow didn't seem right though. Of course its screaming did leave me to believe one thing, it was a woman. Okay it wasn't really the screaming, it was the shorter feather it had on its head. Male ones had longer ones, and I'd faced a male one in the past. If I had to guess I'd be guessing that the Scraggy over there was a male, and that it and Sneasel had some sort of disagreement. They could, disturbingly to me mind you, breed...was this...was this another awkward situation I was dragged into? If so, well it wouldn't be pretty. Of course though it would explain why Scraggy wasn't countering Sneasel in any way. This wasn't good for me though, because the screaming was soon turned into screeching, and directed towards Ambipom. Ambipom, as well as myself were both covering up our ears, but it wasn't like me to allow my Pokemon to be shown up. I believe I proved that one when I had Scizor ram its head into Machop's. I had a plan, a stupid plan, but a plan nonetheless.

"So it's a screaming match you want is it? Well I'll show you how two can play at that game! Ambipom, throw your own Screech at Sneasel, and then whenever you two finish screaming attack it with a Double Hit. Makina, you'd better cover your ears, because there's a good chance it's gonna get really loud in here. You guys too," I said to everyone in the general area, including Scraggy. This wasn't particularly the best idea, but I figured I'd at least who had the tougher pair of lungs. Plus, I didn't really have any way of Ambipom avoiding Screech, and running from an attack wasn't mine, or its style anyway. There was a reason it was brave.

Screech was an annoying move, both in how it sounded, and its effect. If it hit, it would drastically drop the defense of the Pokemon it hit. It was perfect for a primarily attacker such as Ambipom, or Sneasel to use. I wasn't sure if it would hit or not, I just wanted to try to cancel out Sneasel's screaming before my ears bled. I didn't know what its beef was with Scraggy, but when you do something that hurts or annoys me too, then I'm gonna get mad and retaliate at you. I think I proved this by not only telling Ambipom to use Screech, but a Double Hit as well. Double Hit was a signature move of Ambipom. It was actually so signature that an Aipom couldn't evolve into an Ambipom without knowing Double Hit. It was a Normal-type move, and was only slightly weaker than Fake Out. While it didn't cause a flinch like Fake Out, it would hit you twice, hence the name. With Technician, and STAB at Ambipom's side it had the potential to be deadly.

I had no idea what was coming next, but I did have a terrible feeling in my gut that this would somehow end up feeling like a really bad romantic/drama movie, with a twist of action, and maybe a little comedy. I didn't want that though, I only wanted the action, you know mindless violence. Of course some comedy wasn't bad either, but with this whole unknown situation between Sneasel, and Scraggy it seemed like it was up to Ambipom, and myself to put everything in its correct place. Well, that was one option, the other was just focusing on battling with Sneasel, and dealing with Scraggy later on. All I could do now was get ready to watch as Ambipom braced its lungs for a screaming fest, so I put in my earplugs and blasted my ipod at maximum volume, since that'd drown out the screaming better than my fingers.

“So it's a screaming match you want is it? Well I'll show you how two can play at that game!” Eric grinned, rising to the challenge. “Ambipom, throw your own Screech at Sneasel, and then whenever you two finish screaming attack it with a Double Hit.”

Makina looked over and stared at Eric, trying to completely register what he commanded. He did not just-

“Makina, you'd better cover your ears, because there's a good chance it's gonna get really loud in here. You guys too," Eric added, pulling out what appeared to be a music player from his pack before plugging his ears.

<He did,> the Gardevoir confirmed, just as shocked. Trying to counter an attack was possible and even recommended, but trying to do so by out-screaming the opponent? This could turn up ugly.

Aria had barely enough time to coax the nearby Scraggy to walk closer to her and erect a sound-proof barrier around the three before Ambipom began to let off a screech of his own. Judging from the way the Sneasel winced at the sound, it heard it loud and clear. Thankfully, they were still a small ways away from the mountain, preventing an avalanche from the combined noise.

Once both Pokemon had screamed themselves hoarse, Aria slowly let her barrier down. Both Makina and Scraggy were now watching the fight curiously, to see what the next move would be. As for Eric, either he had some first-quality headphones or wasn't phased by loud noises; he appeared to have not noticed the Screech-fest at all.

Ambipom skipped forward, swinging his tails around for another attack, this time using both of them. At that same moment, the Sneasel jabbed the Normal-type with an attack of her own, the Pokemon's claw sporting an icy rime. The two blows connected simultaneously, causing them to be both knocked off-balance, with Ambipom landing on his stomach and Sneasel on her back. It was clear that Screech had sharply hindered the defense of both combatants.

"I hear voices in my head. They council me. They understand. They talk to me. All the lawyers are defenseless. All the doctors are diseased." The sound quality from my headphones coming off of the song I was listening too really did a good job of canceling out the Screeching. I couldn't hear a thing aside from my music. It was a good thing that my eyes were perfectly fine though, so that I could see what was going on in front of me. I happened to notice that Makina's Gardevoir created a barrier, to protect the both of them, as well as Scraggy, from the noise. Trying to out Screech Sneasel wasn't my favorite idea, and had I felt we weren't in a safe enough location I wouldn't have even had Ambipom do such a thing due to fear of an avalanche. I felt we were in a safe enough location to try something this crazy though.

After a few moments it looked as though both Ambipom, and Sneasel tied themselves out a bit. Both were a little short on breath from screaming, and both were also looking weaker too. This wasn't all for Ambipom though, it began charging at Sneasel. Ambipom didn't have a choice but to run at its foe headfirst. Its best moves were all ones that involved close combat, and it was best to not give the opponent some time to set up. Ambipom got its hit in on Sneasel, but simultaneously Sneasel fired off a shot of its own. It was similar to the Fire Punch from earlier this battle, only now instead Sneasel had a frozen fist. It had used Ice Punch, one of its best attacks. This little skirmish took its toll on both battlers since Ambipom was sent flying back on its stomach, and Sneasel on its back. I couldn't believe that both of the Screech attacks went through. I figured they would cancel each other out, or at least only one would make its way through, but there was no doubt that both worked. That was both good news, and bad news. It was good news because now Sneasel was weaker, so various moves could do more damage. On the flip side of that though if Ambipom didn't show any restraint then Sneasel could be knocked out. Also Ambipom himself was weaker now too, and I knew Sneasel wouldn't mind if it knocked out Ambipom since it wasn't here to capture it. I needed to think carefully before my next action, that meant no more goofing around with music, or playing around with Sneasel. No, it was time to get serious. I did have an attack in mind, and well hopefully it would be something to slow that Sneasel down a little.

"Okay Ambipom, we've had our fun here. That fact in mind, we've seen a Fire Punch from you, and an Ice one from Sneasel, so lets complete the trio of elemental punches. Use a Thunderpunch Ambipom," I commanded. Ambipom turned, and nodded. It used elemental punches more times than not to understand their effectiveness. Thunderpunch was essentially the same as the other two. Ambipom would charge up power in its tail, and punch with the right one. The only difference now was that it would glow yellow in color instead, would surge with electricity, and could paralyze. These punches were the same, its just that their appearance, and effectiveness varied by the type of move it was. I'm sure it was no surprise to Makina why I went with Thunderpunch, rather than Fire again. Sneasel had seen the first one before, and would be prone to avoid it, and also because with its dropped defense I wasn't fully sure that Sneasel could withstand it. I didn't doubt its powers, but it was kind of frail to being with. That was the reason why I didn't bother with any Fighting-type attacks during this battle. I was too worried that one would do way too much.

Ambipom planted its feet firm into the ground, and started to charge up the attack. I had no idea what was going to happen here. This Sneasel over there seemed like it was capable of near anything, and I knew it wouldn't just let Ambipom hit it without any struggle. I won't lie, I was a little concerned here. There was something about this Sneasel, its battle instinct seemed to be rather impressive. I mean I knew they were tough fighters in general, but this one seemed different. Like this wasn't its first serious battle before. I knew for a fact that I shouldn't even bother pulling out a ball until I could tell it was ready to be captured. I guess all I could do now was wait, and hope that I made the right choice in moves.
