    Ranger Makina Auron

As Scizor calmly waited for Eric's next command, Aria's eyes scanned the situation with an appraising gaze. <You do realize that this battle could go either way for them,> she idly commented, turning her red-orbed gaze towards her partner. <Scizor may have experience, but the Scraggy has the type advantage.>

True, Makina agreed, but still slightly shook her head before continuing. You underestimate the will of a Pokemon as well however. While Scraggy may be backed into a corner, it still appears shaken up. I'm not an emotion reader though- care to test my theory?

While Aria started slightly from the odd request, she still nodded and did a quick scan of the Dark-type before giving an agreeing nod in response. At this point, their conversation was derailed by the moment by Eric's next command.

“Alright Scizor, I think Scraggy has proved itself. Now that your stats have been boosted we don't need to worry about them decreasing. Scizor use a Superpower attack!” Eric commanded.

Scizor began to pulse with a powerful energy, charging up his next attack. Oddly enough, the pulses appeared to be slowed slightly, as if the Bug-type had to put slightly more effort into his moves. Scraggy didn't appear to have this problem though; as soon as he saw Scizor ready his attack, the Shedding Pokemon lowered his head into a charge and rammed his opponent, moving with enough force to carry the Pokemon across the room and slam into the incoming wall. The entire room appeared to shake slightly from the force, but thankfully no other changes were made.

Scizor, still pulsing but both winded and pained from Scraggy's sudden move, shakily got back to his feet. Scraggy, while he had managed to stay on his feet, staggered about clumsily while holding his head. While the move was powerful, it was obvious that it now had a damaging recoil as well. Seeing the opening, Scizor dashed in first with a kick to knock the wild Pokemon up slightly, then instantly switched into a punishing one-two punch with his pincers, sending the Scraggy flying in the other direction.

Scraggy managed to stand up, but only just barely. It was clear to all who were watching the creature that it could collapse at any moment.

What was this trip through the park, a headbutters paradise? When Scizor charged forth at Scraggy, like several times in battles before it, Scraggy lowered its head and charged towards Scizor. It nailed Scizor with its head, and sent it flying into one of the cave walls. Scraggy had used Head Smash, a move that was certainly the definition of high risk, high return. As its name sounded the user smashes the opponent with its head causing great damage, but as punishment to the user for attacking so recklessly they take half of the damage they cause as recoil. This is because they need to sacrifice their own body to cause damage. Regardless some Pokemon still made great use of this move. Aggron, who didn't need to worry about recoil due to Rock Head, and Archeops, who even though would receive recoil still would do tremendous damage due to its relatively fast speed, and amazing attack.

Scraggy was staggering a bit, and that was only from its own recoil. Now that it attacked Scizor was ready. Granted Scizor was in pain, and slower to move now, but it still got off a pretty good attack. It started off with a kick, and then sent Scraggy flying away with some punches. Now Scraggy could barely stand up, it had next to nothing left in its tank. Another attack now to it, and it would surely be finished. That meant that now was the best chance I had to attempt to capture it.

"You did great Scizor, especially considering this is your second battle here so far. Now stand back, you did more than enough damage, so I'm going to throw a ball now," I said to Scizor, who backed away a bit upon hearing this. I still had a lot of Super, and Hyper Balls I hadn't used, but I still also had a couple of Park Balls on hand, and they could only be used to capture things that didn't evolve yet, or wouldn't evolve, so if I saw the chance to use them of course I'd act on it. I pulled one out from my backpack, and tossed it over at Scraggy. Although anything was possible I'd be shocked, and amazed if Scraggy managed to escape from the ball. In doing so though it would probably spend what energy it had left, making it able to be captured on the next attempt I would assume. I did hope it wouldn't come to that though, otherwise Scizor could be in trouble if Scraggy was still looking for a fight.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Eric, seeing Scraggy's extreme fatigue, took a step forward. In his hand lay another Parkball, the sphere enlarged and ready to throw. "You did great Scizor, especially considering this is your second battle here so far. Now stand back, you did more than enough damage, so I'm going to throw a ball now," He said to his partner, the Pincer Pokemon taking a step back in response.

As the Ball lightly tapped the Dark-type, Scraggy was sucked into the sphere in a ruby red light, the capture device shaking about as the Pokemon attempted to break free. The attempt seemed to be halfhearted compared to the previous two captures; in mere moments, the Ball stilled.

“And Scraggy makes three.” Makina remarked to Eric as she picked up the Pokemon's Parkball. “I'm sure you already know this due to being a fellow Ranger, though you mentioned your memory being fuzzy earlier so I'll reiterate,” she lightly joked, giving a grin before continuing. “You can either leave with the three Pokemon you have now, or you can continue on and swap one for another Pokemon you capture further ahead. Which will it be?”

The ball containing Scraggy, hit the ground, and secured the Pokemon inside. “And Scraggy makes three,” Makina said to me Eric as she picked up the Scraggy's Parkball. “I'm sure you already know this due to being a fellow Ranger, though you mentioned your memory being fuzzy earlier so I'll reiterate. You can either leave with the three Pokemon you have now, or you can continue on and swap one for another Pokemon you capture further ahead. Which will it be?”

A fellow Ranger? I think you have mistaken for my buddy Gary, but I'm not gonna embarrass you like that since I like you, I thought to myself. "I'd like to keep going. To tell you the truth I'm unsure if I want a Machamp, or a Weavile, so. Let's just keep continuing in this cavern too, rather than just rush off outside. Before that though, use Roost Scizor," I commanded. "Don't worry Makina, I don't intend to have Scizor battle again, I just want its strength restored so I can it can walk along side me," I said to her with a grin. It battled enough, so it deserved to spend the rest of this trip relaxing.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

“I'd like to keep going.” Eric replied after a moment's hesitation, as if he had heard something that had seemed something off. “To tell you the truth I'm unsure if I want a Machamp, or a Weavile, so. Let's just keep continuing in this cavern too, rather than just rush off outside.”

Eric wasn't the only one acting odd; even Aria was beginning to look at Makina as if she had lost her mind. Alright, what did I say this time? Makina asked Aria.

<News flash: Eric is not a Ranger. Did your sister spike your breakfast this morning or something?> The Gardevoir rolled her eyes and looked towards the opposite tunnel, hinting to her partner that they should really continue on.

Makina could only stare blankly for a moment as she registered Aria's remark. She could have sworn that another Ranger had been going on about an incident about a Conkeldurr as well, as well as becoming almost ill during an Oktori run not long ago. Perhaps she was just mixing events up.

“Before that though, use Roost Scizor,” Eric said towards Scizor. “Don't worry Makina, I don't intend to have Scizor battle again, I just want its strength restored so I can it can walk along side me.”

Scizor firmly placed his feet down, grounding himself as a soothing light enveloped his body, healing the worst of his wounds. This was Roost, a health-restoring move usable by a wide array of Pokemon who possessed wings. As soon as the glow faded, Makina led them into the tunnel.

Their path winded steadily upwards, leading them towards the higher levels of the mountain interior. Looks were apparently deceiving though; the next open cavern was quite spacious, the ceiling far above them and the area almost as wide. A few cavern pools even dotted the area, appearing several feet deep but currently frozen over.

It was near one of these pools where a small blue Pokemon currently rested. It was currently lying on its stomach, resting its head on two black paws while looking at the ice with its back towards the group.

“Riolu are quite the find,” Makina remarked to Eric, keeping her voice low. “We can most likely sneak by though if you wish to pass.”

IC: Makina didn't really same to care what I healed Scizor for. Either way though it had already battled twice, so I think that it deserved to spend the rest of this run relaxing. Scizor planted its feet firm onto the ground, and began to glow, healing up a majority of its injuries, and health. Roost worked with any Pokemon that had wings, and as an added bonus to them if they were part Flying-type then they would lose their Flying-type for the duration of the turn. This was pretty good for getting rid of weaknesses to such types as Ice, or Rock, but in the process could give you new weaknesses, such as ones to Fighting, or Ground. For the cost of regaining half of your maximum health though, I would say that it was indeed a fair tradeoff. Scizor finished healing itself, and Makina, who had very patiently waited, started to continue leading us down the path. It didn't really matter to me where we went next, because if there was a Pokemon there then it was good enough for me.

The path we were on took us upwards, leading us into the higher levels of the inner mountain. Looks, however, could be rather fooling. This was proven when we entered into the next cavern, which was rather roomy. Also now the ceiling was high above our heads, with the area nearly as wide as that. It made me wonder how far up the mountain we actually were when there were areas like this around. I didn't like to think too much about it though seeing as how I was afraid of heights. There were even some cavern pools here, which I couldn't really explain. I didn't know how deep they were, because they were currently frozen over, and I was going to go over to examine. Knowing my luck I'd go over, and the ground there, or ice, would break, and trap me. Then forget about it being a ranger job for Makina, it'd turn into a life saving job.

Though at one of the pools you could see a small Pokemon resting itself. It actually reminded me of a little puppy dog at first glance. It was actually laying on its stomach right now, with its head resting on its back paws, and its back turned towards us. It was blue in color, with black legs, and a black torso. It looked as though it was wearing a black mask, like a raccoon or something. Its tail was blue, and it had a yellow color. It had bumps on its paws, which I believed were the beginning of the spikes it had on its evolved forms forepaws. It also had red eyes. Rather than stand on its own feet whenever they would stand, it stood on its toes. How did I know this while this Pokemon was laying down? Simple, because I'd seen this Pokemon a few times in the past.

“Riolu are quite the find,” Makina remarked to Eric, keeping her voice low. “We can most likely sneak by though if you wish to pass," Makina said, and it was true. It wasn't every day that you'd just run across a Riolu out in the open, not without repelling Ice-types anyway. I did have a choice in front of me though. I wasn't sure if I wanted this thing or not, because I did already have a Lucario, sure, but when the time came I was giving that back to its previous owner. I also wasn't sure how much I actually wanted to own a Lucario. Not that they were particularly bad or anything, but there were better Pokemon out there, and ones who wouldn't be able to put up as hard a fight as a Riolu. Still though, with the time I'd be spending here debating with myself in my head whether or not I should battle it, it'd probably notice me, and want to battle. So, it was probably best to just get things rolling here.

"I'd be happy to battle this thing. If nothing else when the times comes I could just trade it, or give it to someone who I'd believe would appreciate it more," I said to Makina. There wasn't any doubt as to who I'd have battle here. Ambipom was hurt, Scizor had the rest of the run off, and Zoroark was pretty weak against a Riolu, so that only left me with one thing. "Your time to shine, Chandelure!" I said, as it appeared from its ball. Like it sounded it actually looked as though it was a chandelier, just with the second I in the proper spelling of chandelier replaced by a U. Not only was it a powerful battler, but being in a cave like this too, well with the four flames it had on its body, and one on its head, it would light up the surrounding area for as long as it was out. That was fine, and dandy, but I needed to get Riolu's attention, without getting it angry so that I didn't need to take a cheap shot. After thinking for a few moments an idea dawned on me.

"Chandelure, start off by using a Haze in the general area. With any luck the layer of ice smoke, or fog, created by this will cause Riolu to begin coughing, and get up. After that I want you to follow up with an Energy Ball, got it?" I commanded to Chandelure, who nodded. It may have been grinning too, I couldn't really tell. With any luck I could get Riolu up without attacking it, hopefully making it not attack as hastily as Machop did when I got its attention, but only time would tell me that one.

Chandelure floated over to a wall near by, and fired up one of its flames a little. Haze, despite its name making you think it might be a Poison-type move or something, was an Ice-type move, that would normally eliminate any stat changes that have occurred by the point it is used, but in this case I was just using it to attempt to get Riolu to stand. Chandelure melted away a bit of the excess ice that was frozen to the wall, and created what was basically like a layer of fog, or mist, which started to envelop most of the surrounding area. It wasn't such a thick layer though to the point where you couldn't see in front of you. You could easily see at least ten feet ahead, more if you had a light, and well Chandelure was a light so.

When this was done, Chandelure put all four of its body flames together and created the ball. Since we weren't out in nature, Chandelure would need to form the ball with its own energy. It was green in color, but inside of it you could see some yellow spots. Energy Ball was a Grass-type attack that would attack with the power of nature when outdoors, otherwise it was infused with Pokemon giving it a feel like it had natural power. When the attack was ready Chandelure would fire it at Riolu. I wanted to start the battle not too big, but big enough where I'd hopefully deal some damage.

This was hardly surprising in the least; after all, Riolu were one of the most sought after Pokemon in this area. Unfortunately, this made the already quite uncommon species even more rare due to either being captured or just keeping out of sight. The fact that this one was out in the open meant that it was either looking for a fight or still quite young.

<My bets are on the former,> Aria interjected, overhearing Makina's thoughts. <If it was a child, there would surely be a Lucario somewhere in here. This one is probably close to evolving.>

True, but let's see how it battles first. It could be lost or something.
Hopefully this was not the case- if a mother Lucario suddenly appeared in the middle of the fight... well, it would be hard to stay neutral.

Eric had pulled out another Pokeball, lobbing it forward, “Your time to shine, Chandelure!” he called, and the Ball opened to release a floating spectral Pokemon, its body consisting of a black metal frame with flames adorning the top. The Ghost-type levitated in place, moving the outer frame as if they were arms. Once Chandelure was ready, Eric called out his first command, “Chandelure, start off by using a Haze in the general area. With any luck the layer of ice smoke, or fog, created by this will cause Riolu to begin coughing, and get up. After that I want you to follow up with an Energy Ball, got it?”

The Luring Pokemon nodded, and for a moment her flames began to puff out a moderate amount of steam, cloaking the room in a light area of fog. As the fog closed in towards the water, Riolu finally stood up, looking about to see what had caused such an unusual change in the area. As soon as his eyes rested on Chandelure, the young Pokemon began to brim with energy, and his movements began to quicken at an impressive speed.

Seeing Riolu turn around, Chandelure fired off off a forest-green sphere of energy, lobbing it towards the Fighting-type. As the attack reached its mark, Riolu began to dig furiously into the ground in an attempt to avoid the Energy Ball. While he was still too slow to completely dodge it, the wild Pokemon managed to avoid taking the full blast and safely go fully underground.

OOC: I've said this numerous times on AIM. It isn't a problem, four days isn't a long time at all.

IC: Thankfully Haze worked as I had hoped. It started to spread around the entire cave area, though not in a thick way where you weren't able to see anything. By the time this light fog reached the area of water where Riolu was relaxing, the creature noticed a change in the cave, aka the fog, and got to its feet, where it turned to see us waiting for it. The second it saw Chandelure it knew that it was going to have a battle on its hands. The first thing it did was take a page out of my book here, and use a non-damaging attack. It began to glow with some energy, and started to run around the cave a little bit, turning the energy into boosting energy. As it was moving around you could see it getting quicker in general. Riolu had been using Agility, a move that raises your speed by two stages, which in some cases made you faster than nearly everything that came your way. It was now faster than Chandelure, which could prove to be trouble in the long run.

Once Chandelure saw Riolu turn around it unleashed Energy Ball at it. The attack was closing in on Riolu, but the puppy-like Pokemon wasn't just going to stand there and do nothing. As the attack approached it, Riolu began to dig underground. Though it couldn't get fully underground in enough time. The attack hit the lower half of its body, but it had managed to avoid taking the full force of the attack, and got itself underground for a sneak attack, so I'd say it had played this round smartly. Of course now I was in a bit of a pickle. I couldn't see Riolu, or know where it was going to come up from, the only thing I knew was that it had been using Dig, a move which can hit Chandelure pretty hard. Dig was a two turn, Ground-type attack. As its name suggested the user would dig underground, protecting them from most attacks, and on the following turn they would emerge from the ground, striking the foe with a surprise blow. The only attacks that really worked against a digger were Earthquake, and Magnitude, and both of them would be at double power when hitting a Pokemon underground. Sadly though Chandelure knew neither of this attacks, so I had to cook up some sort of plan.

What could I really do in this situation? Chandelure did know Protect, but I almost always hating relying on that move for anything. It wasn't always like this, it got this way when Speed Boost Blaziken became popular. Now I try to never use Protect. Maybe if the battle was further in, and I was afraid that Dig would knock Chandelure out, then I'd probably have considered it, but things were just getting started here, so there was no need. I had an idea where I could have Chandelure attack down the hole that Riolu made, but with Riolu being faster now it would almost no doubt strike way before the attack reached it, so that would be useless. I was really clueless, so I figured that when it doubt nothing beats going random. I would just pick the first two moves that came to mind. With that thought in my head, I knew what to use now.

"Okay Chandelure, that was a great start. Now when you get your eyes on Riolu use Psych Up to copy its speed boost, and then hit it with a Flamethrower for some damage," I commanded. I wanted to go at this calmly, because if I shouted, well then Chandelure might not be able to here Riolu coming up from the ground. I'm not saying it'd even hear it in the first place, cause you'd either need really good hearing for that, and well Chandelure doesn't even have ears, or they'd have to be a loud digger, and Riolu was a small Pokemon so I somehow didn't see such a thing happening. All I could really do was hope my crazy randomness would pay off, and get me some progress.

Psych Up was a move that would telepathically link you to your opponent. In doing this you sync up with it, and copy any stat changes your opponent may have, whether they be positive ones, or negative ones. So if your opponent uses Calm Mind, and then Superpower at some point you'd copy the boost to both special attack, and special defense, while decreasing your attack, and defense in the process. Still while Psych Up could have some negative effects, it was generally a very good move, especially if you Encored something boosting its stats, and then copy all of them to use yourself. Course in this case I was just trying to copy speed, so that Riolu couldn't hit first with powerful moves.

Whenever the chance arose Chandelure would throw out a Flamethrower. While most Pokemon use Flamethrower from inside their body, Chandelure does it a little different. It puts all of the flames on its body together at the top with the one on its head, and start a bigger blaze. Its purple flames would then turn into a fiery shade of orange, or red. It would then turn into a power wave of flames, and go directly at the opponent. Flamethrower was a pretty powerful attack, and even had the chance to cause a burn. This was essentially your standard Fire-type move, and was even learned by a ton of non-Fire-type Pokemon.

Chandelure got itself ready, and looked like it was in a deep focus. It was waiting for Riolu to make its move, so it could make its own move. While I may have been going at this randomly right now I had a plan for my next chance to attack, provided this right now worked. I guess I could only wait, and see if I'd do what I had in mind next, or if I'd need to rethink my strategy.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

As Riolu went completely out of sight, Makina looked over at Eric to see what his plan would be. Dig was mostly a tactical move, used to either avoid attacks entirely or to get the drop on an enemy. However it had one fatal flaw to it: if the user wasn't fully ready for a counterattack, they were largely vulnerable after completing the move. If the Riolu was still inexperienced enough to not know this, Eric and Chandelure could use this to their advantage.

"Okay Chandelure, that was a great start. Now when you get your eyes on Riolu use Psych Up to copy its speed boost, and then hit it with a Flamethrower for some damage," Eric commanded, keeping an eye on the ground. This was actually a pretty decent plan. If Chandelure could get her speed advantage back, the Pokemon would run circles around her opponent.

Chandelure directed her gaze to the ground as well, carefully watching for any changes as well as a certain blue-furred creature that was bound to pop up at any moment. After a short pause, Riolu shot out of the ground, laying a sharp uppercut on the Ghost-type. Dig had an interesting secondary effect- users were infused with the element of Ground, allowing the attack to hit incorporeal creatures. While Chandelure had to stay still to focus on her move, a quick flash of light illuminating her form showed that Psych Up had been successful.

Using her newfound speed, Chandelure focused her main central flame upon the Riolu and let loose a stream of fire, effectively torching the Emanation Pokemon. While his fur appeared to be slightly scorched, it did not appear serious enough to leave a lasting burn. The nimble creature attempted to hop back, barely avoiding the hole in the ground, and slammed down on the cavern floor with his front paws and causing the room to slightly shudder. For a moment, nothing appeared to happen- perhaps it had been a weak version of Earthquake. Seconds later, a row of stalactites fell from far above, landing around Chandelure with one clipping the left frame of her body. While it most likely did less damage due to it being a direct hit, her movement appeared to be slowed slightly.

Riolu got a nice right uppercut in on Chandelure. Normally a move like that would just phase right through a Ghost-type, and make Riolu fall flat on its face, but Dig actually infuses you with the ground for the duration of the attack. It was unusual, but hey I couldn't complain, because what was done was done, and Chandelure may have been hurt a little, but it was far from defeated. Now that Dig had finished, it could focus on what I had commanded for it to do. Then again it had been focusing on that, it was just that it wasn't able to move, or else the concentration from Psych Up would have been ruined, and it would have needed to start over. It may have taken damage in the process of using it, but when a quick flash of light shined from Chandelure I knew it was worth it, since Psych Up worked, and it now copied the speed that Riolu gained. Now that this was done, Chandelure could focus its energy on the flame on its head, and release the blast at Riolu. The flames slapped the little Pokemon head on, and appeared as though they had scorched its fur a little, though it didn't leave a burn. That was okay though, because if Riolu had been burned at this point in time then I'd need to be extra careful with any attack I threw its way, or else I might actually knock it out, and well that would just be a waste, wouldn't it?

Of course now that Riolu was damaged again, it went ahead for some retaliation of its own. After hopping back from the attack, it slammed its paws against the cave floor, causing the room to tremble a little, I guess about equal to what Kyurem caused when it showed up. While nothing happened for a few moments, something did eventually happen. Some stones from the top of the cavern we were in began to plummet to the ground, towards Chandelure. Most of them missed her, but one did manage to connect with the left side of her body. Chandelure wasn't hurt too bad from this, since the full force of the attack didn't hit her, but she was feeling some damage. I walked over to where she was, picked up one of the smaller rocks that came from the ceiling, and smashed it against my own head to feel what happened to Chandelure. This may have seemed crazy, but I had a pretty hard skull. I think this was proved when the rock broke apart into nothing upon contact. Of course Makina probably thought I was nuts, cause I wasn't sure

"Hmm, not bad, but I can see why that didn't do that much to you," I said, while glancing at Chandelure. Dig no doubt did a lot more damage than what I believed to be Rock Tomb, since Chandelure looked slightly slower than just a few moments ago. Either way though it had worked hard to get that boosted speed, and now part of it was gone, not to mention it was hurt, and Riolu even made me injure myself a little. Anyway I looked at everything now though I could finally start to execute the plan I had in mind.

"Now Chandelure, use Sunny Day, and then follow up with a Psychic!" I commanded. I had no idea how Sunny Day would work inside of a cave with no light around, but I'm sure Chandelure would think of a way, it wasn't stupid. Using Sunny Day, and not following up a Fire-type move may have seemed unusual, but it was part of my plan to get up a simulated sun first, then focus on attacks that relied on it. I didn't want to rush into stuff, and screw up.

Generally whenever I've seen Sunny Day used, the user of it uses its energy to intensify the sun that is already out there. So if you were out in the sunny Botanic Gardens then the sun there would intensify greatly. What this would do was a few things. It increased the power of Fire-type moves, while in the process decreasing the power of Water-type moves. It made Thunder less likely to hit, seeing as how the sky would usually be clear at this point that would make sense. The move Solarbeam could instantly work, rather than gather energy first. And lastly it prevent Pokemon from being frozen, because well would you think something could freeze over in the blazing sun? I had no clue if this would even work or not. Maybe I had hit my head a little too hard, because making a sun inside of a cavern? Seems a bit unlikely, but I guess anything was possible. Maybe Chandelure could use its flames to simulate a fake sun, or maybe this would just fail miserably, and Makina would laugh at me. At least I knew the next move it would be using would normally do something.

The move I had meant was Psychic. Psychic would cause your eyes, well the Pokemon's eyes, to change blue in color, the entire surrounding area would become a shade of pink, and the foe would be hit with psychic powers. What these powers generally did would be restrain you, and move you around at free will. They could slam you into the ground, throw you against a wall, or hold you still while they used another attack. This grip didn't last forever mind you, but it lasted long enough where some damage could be dealt.

Chandelure got in position. I had no idea if either of the moves I told it to do would work or not, and no clue what Riolu itself would do, but that was the nature of a battle. Should both moves work then I had a follow up to go with the plan I was thinking of, but should at least one of them fail, then I'd need to go back to the drawing board for a bit of time. I wasn't worried though, because I knew it'd still take a decent amount to capture Riolu, and so I'd be here for a while regardless.

    Ranger Makina Auron

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Once the last stalactite had crashed to the ground, Makina did a quick scan of the area, seeing just where all of the rocks had fallen. While most were surrounding Chandelure due to that being the targeted area, a few of the looser ones had fallen closer towards the edge of the room, some even crumbling from the impact. Apparently the roof of this area was far from sturdy; a fact that was more worrisome than helpful in this case. Both Pokemon would have to refrain from any more earth-shaking moves.

During this time, Eric had walked over to one of the outer rocks, taking it in his hands a moment before smashing it upon his head before a very surprised Ranger and Gardevoir. Chandelure, however, just gave a slight shrug as if this was normal for the Trainer. "Hmm, not bad, but I can see why that didn't do that much to you," Eric remarked, glancing over at his partner.

Makina was momentarily speechless, trying to figure out just how to react to this. First he had tried battling sound with sound, now he was testing rocks against his own dome? “Is everything all right over there?” And am I going to have to teleport you to the nearest medical station? she added silently, shaking her head in disbelief. This run just got weirder and weirder.

<At least now he's ahead of you in “most mental behavior ever,> Aria said, sporting a very uncharacteristic smirk. It was clear that she was enjoying seeing the humans act foolish.

Eric readied his next command, the hit to his head apparently not damaging enough to break his focus of the battle. "Now Chandelure, use Sunny Day, and then follow up with a Psychic!" he called out to his Pokemon.

Now Makina was seriously considering radioing the main office for a possible transporter. Sunny Day, as seen before, was a move that affected the weather. Since they were in a completely walled-off cavern this time though, the move would most likely fail or just work out of sight, providing no benefits. The only way she could see this working would be to knock a hole in the wall or ceiling as a way for the sunlight to enter and that would damage the environment, if not cause the room to cave in completely; they were still far from the top of the mountain after all.

Chandelure, however, had other things planned. Setting all of her flames at full force, the brightness of her form made her almost akin to a weaker sun, flooding the area with light. This also caused the ice lining the walls to slowly melt, as well as the frozen water sources to melt in turn. Such a force of power would also strain Chandelure as well- it was doubtful that she would be able to keep it up for long.

Riolu, seeing the ice melt around them, let out an ear-piercing Screech to attempt breaking the Ghost-type's concentration. While Chandelure shuddered, her flames hardly faltered. The small blue Pokemon let out an irritated growl and barked something out to his opponent.

<He's warning her about melting the ice,> Aria translated to her partner. <Not only could it cause problems, but apparently there's a large Pokemon that uses this room to rest in sometimes.>

Large Pokemon... he doesn't mean Kyurem, does he?
Makina asked, then relayed the message over to Eric, “Riolu is asking for Chandelure to cancel the flames. You may want to heed the warning, they are hardly known for tricking people.”

Chandelure had moved to the second part of her attack, her normally yellow eyes glowing a light blue as she activated Psychic upon the Riolu. The Fighting-type whimpered as his body was gripped by psychic power, and was thrown straight into the air before crashing down to the ground. As the blue glow faded he shakily got back to his feet, trying to not slip on the now slightly-damp floor. Letting out an angry cry, he slashed at Chandelure's body with a front paw, the limb coated in a shadowy aura. Both Pokemon now stared atone another; one with frustration and the other with concentration as she tried to keep her technique in place.

“Is everything all right over there?” Makina had asked before the attacks got started. I knew she was going to question me, especially cause of that whole Screeching thing before, but that one was to teach Sneasel a lesson. I mean geez though, you smash one rock against your head, and you gotta get questioned about it. What is this world coming to, I swear.

"I'm fine Makina, don't worry about me, I have a pretty hard skull so it'd take a lot more than that to hurt me. And the reason I did it, was because I was curious as to what Chandelure felt. I don't know about you, but Chandelure is one of those Pokemon I have a bond with, so I wanted to feel its pain in this case, and make sure I'd retaliate appropriately at Riolu," I said to her. And it was actually the truth. Chandelure was always taking a lot of hits in battles for me, along with my other valuable Pokemon such as Ambipom, Scizor, and the Gardevoir I didn't bring along with me. I didn't care what Makina thought of it though, whether she thought it was the truth or not. I was fine with what I did. Besides, it's probably not like Makina never did something that others saw as crazy.

Once Makina heard me command Sunny Day though, well she seemed a bit off. She probably thought we were going to blow up the mountain top to boost the sun, but that would be a little extreme. It was that I had a feeling that an artificial sun could be created, I mean after all I had seen an artificial moon be created before so I just figured anything was possible. Chandelure burned its flames to full power, somewhat simulating the sun itself, but at a cost. Chandelure needed to use a lot of concentration, and it would also cause a lot of strain to keep this going. That was probably for the best, since some of the ice slowly started to melt away, but that was fine, well not the melting part, the part about not lasting long. It was fine, because if all went according to plan the "sun" would vanish during Chandelure's very next attack, after Psychic.

Before this though, Riolu let out a very annoying sound. Just like Sneasel before it was using Screech. It sounded just as annoying as it had earlier. I swear though it was like this trip through Oktori was the one of the screamers, or singers. You have Sneasel, and Riolu both using Screech, and Scraggy had used Round. Can't forget Machop, who may have not yelled, or sung, but was always using its head as a battering ram. At least I could respect that one though. Still though this Screech seemed different, almost as if it was just trying to break Chandelure's concentration, rather than aim at hurting it.

“Riolu is asking for Chandelure to cancel the flames. You may want to heed the warning, they are hardly known for tricking people,” Makina told me. Even if this was the case Riolu didn't need to use a Screech to say so, I've seen Pokemon communicate before. Still though I had no intentions of keeping these flames around for any longer than right now itself to tell you the truth. I just needed their power to, hopefully, make an attack work.

Despite this though Chandelure continued on, throwing Psychic at Riolu, but despite being smacked around a bit, Riolu was intent on getting those flames to stop burning. The claws on its right paw turned a dark shade of purple, and started to look shadow like. It then let out a cry of anger, and slashed at Chandelure. Chandelure held its concentration, but I know that on the inside it was angry now. But how could you expect it to not be angry? Riolu may have had something against Chandelure using Sunny Day, but look at Riolu. First it hid underground for Dig, caused stones to come crashing down from the ceiling for Rock Tomb, and now this. Well it wouldn't have to worry, because if what I had in mind worked, then the sun would be gone.

"Don't worry Makina, those flames should dissipate now. Chandelure infuse yourself with the energy you've used to simulate the sun effect, and then take that, and use a Solarbeam!" I commanded. This was why I wanted the effect of a sun around, because I had wanted to hit Riolu with something truly powerful, but not so powerful that I'd need to worry about its well being, and knocking it out. Yes it was unusual I know, but if I had just right away commanded a Solarbeam then Chandelure would have needed the time to gather the necessary energy to use said move, letting Riolu know it was coming, and giving it time to counter it. I didn't like this plan, but I had to do what I felt would be effective. Not to mention that the attack couldn't even probably work here in the first place without Sunny Day. There was no sun inside of a cave to draw energy from, so the attack wouldn't be much of anything besides another Energy Ball.

Solarbeam was one of the most powerful Grass-type moves out there. The user would draw sunlight into their body, and fuse it with their own energy, before releasing a large, and power beam of energy. Of course though Solarbeam generally took time to work like I mentioned. The Pokemon using it would need to absorb the energy, and this was a long process since the sun itself was so far away. However when the sun is shinning brightly, like from Sunny Day, the user would quickly absorb all the energy it needed, and quickly use the attack. Of course because of this Solarbeam also had drawbacks as you might imagine. If the move was used in Rain, a Sandstorm, or Hail, then the attack itself would only be half as effective. It makes sense though since its a sun based attack. Even though it was sun based though it wasn't a burning move such as Flamethrower. It was just like a Grass-type attack, only in beam form due to being powered up by light.

Chandelure looked at me, and nodded. She knew that when I asked her use Sunny Day I had something in mind, though I doubt she figured it was something such as this. I was also almost certain Makina had no idea that this was going for. When I want to I can be very crafty. Of course I was just hoping now though that this would due away with the energy Chandelure was focusing on making Sunny Day, and get rid of said move. I didn't want Riolu Screeching its head off again, or this would just be Sneasel all over again.

“Don't worry Makina, those flames should dissipate now,” Eric responded in turn, then focused his attention back to his Pokemon. “Chandelure infuse yourself with the energy you've used to simulate the sun effect, and then take that, and use a Solarbeam!” he commanded.

Chandelure began to glow even brighter, absorbing all the energy that had been emitted from her body. At this point looking at Eric's Pokemon was impossible; everyone was forced to either direct their gaze elsewhere or close their eyes entirely, even Riolu (though he appeared to do so grudgingly.) Though no one could see Chandelure's actions at the moment, it was likely she was directing the solar power to her central flame once more, moving into position.

Makina silently hoped that the beam would not end up hitting the opposite wall as well as the SolarBeam went off. Despite being a Grass-type attack, it was still utilizing the power of the sun and still packed enough heat to further melt the ice. It was too late to prevent it though; moments later the entire room was further illuminated as the beam shot out towards the wild Pokemon.

Riolu attempted to dodge, but didn't even come close to do so thanks to being unable just how wide the blinding beam was. He was slid off his feet and dragged across the ground from the force, quite obviously hurt. Seeing her attack connect Chandelure immediately cut off her flames, canceling the attack before it could go any further. Still, the effort needed to sustain the glow and cancel the attack had worn the Ghost-type out. The light around her form finally dimming out, she appeared to almost slump as her metal frame hovered almost limply in the air.

Seeing his moment to strike, Riolu dashed forward with another jab, this time with a punch coated in dangerous toxins. While the move had hurt Chandelure, it had failed to poison her. Trying to remedy this issue, the blue creature hopped back, spitting a vile purple liquid towards his opponent. If Chandelure didn't move in time, she could become badly poisoned.

Solarbeam was working just as I had hoped. Sunny Day was dissipating, and being used for the attack. This in the process created a sort of blinding light, something that I hadn't been counting on. This however did manage to keep Riolu from avoiding the move. The beam hit Riolu, and did a decent amount of damage to the little guy. These two were throwing everything at each other aside from the kitchen sink. However Chandelure was worse for wear than Riolu was. Though Riolu seemed more damaged, Chandelure was more drained from maintaining Sunny Day for as long as it did. Riolu took this time to attack again. Its right paw became filled with poison, and it threw a jab at Chandelure. Despite it being a punching move, Poison Jab was a Poison-type move, and therefore able to hit Chandelure. It didn't succeed to poison her, but Riolu planned to fix that. It spit out the same purple goo from the attack at Chandelure. It was Toxic, a move that would slowly sap away your health until you either healed, or if it was knocked out.

"Okay, good going so far Chandelure. I just need you to endure this for a little longer, but I know you can handle it. Hit Riolu with a Flame Charge, and then follow up with a Will-o-Wisp!" I commanded. Everything so far had been leading to this point in time, the point where I could try a move like Will-o-Wisp. I could have attempted to do so sooner, but it may have really drained on Riolu's health too quickly. Plus if it was too healthy then there was a good chance it would avoid it. While it could still avoid Will-o-Wisp at this point, it was slightly less likely that it would. The main reason I wanted to do this wasn't to weaken Riolu, but because I wanted to try to make it easier to capture. Originally I HAD wanted to use Toxic instead, due to having a better chance of hitting, but Riolu was already attempting to use Toxic, and I didn't feel like firing off the same move like before with Screech.

I didn't know if Chandelure could avoid Toxic or not, but I couldn't worry about that, because if it spent time avoiding that then it could give Riolu an opening to do some real damage. Flame Charge would cloak Chandelure in a coat of flames, and it would charge at Riolu. In this process it would not only hurt Riolu, but slightly increase its speed. Though at this point a speed increase was pretty unneeded. Maybe by having the flames around her body she could have been protected from Toxic, but I knew that was just wishful thinking.

Whenever the chance arrived Will-o-Wisp would be attempted. Chandelure would fire out some blueish-white flame balls at Riolu. If they hit Riolu would become burned, which would suck away some of its health after each round of attacks, and would also cut its attack in half. Neither of those were the reasons I was doing this though. I was doing it like I said because I wanted to do whatever I could to make Riolu certain to be captured. And should this plan of mine work, then the time to throw a ball at Riolu was nearly upon us, but I wanted to wait to see what would happen before throwing a ball.

“Okay, good going so far Chandelure. I just need you to endure this for a little longer, but I know you can handle it,” Eric reassured his partner, seeing the Ghost-type slump. As the wild Riolu directed a Toxic shot forward though, he quickly called out his next command, “Hit Riolu with a Flame Charge, and then follow up with a Will-o-Wisp!”

<What is he doing, directing his partner into that?> Aria's tone was a mix of surprise and slight confusion, trying to figure out just what this Trainer was trying to do. <Charging into things head-on is foolish at best, disastrous at worst.>

Chandelure has a little bit of fight left in her, else she would have just collapsed after using such a powerful attack earlier, Makina replied. Plus, I have a feeling that Eric has a deeper connection to his Pokemon then you think. Remember what he did with that rock earlier?

<Funny, thought that proved more insanity than empathy,> the Gardevoir responded, though said no more.

Chandelure appeared to hesitate for a split second, then shrugged off her worries as her flames began circling around her body, giving the Pokemon the appearance of a fireball. As the flames whirled faster, she charged straight at Riolu, ignoring the incoming toxic liquid. Riolu, expecting his opponent to dodge, gave a small yip as he tried to move to the side far too late. Still, the wild Pokemon held his ground admirably.

As the Flame Charge died down, the move gave an energy burst to Chandelure, increasing her speed once more. Something seemed off though; her frame appeared slightly lopsided, and the Ghost-type's face was slightly contorted as it fought back nausea. While the flames seemed to have diluted the worst effects of Toxic, Chandelure had succumbed to poison. Using her speed boost, Chandelure quickly spat out an azure-blue flame, singing the already slightly-charred Riolu and causing a harmful burn.

Riolu's eyes practically blazed as well, though this was caused by determination rather then actual flames. Refusing to back down, he quickly flexed to boost his hindered strength and add a small boost to his defense. Though the Emanation Pokemon was putting up a good show, he was obviously trying hard to stay on his feet- one way or another, this match would end soon.

This was the moment of truth. The moment where I would find out who was tougher, Chandelure, or Riolu. Chandelure charged at Riolu, smacking it with its flame charged body. Though it didn't get away unscathed. While it was protected from the full effects of Toxic, Chandelure was still Poisoned which could prove to be troublesome itself. Of course I was hoping that I could end all of this right now. I came to this realization when I saw Will-o-Wisp hit Riolu, burning the little guy. It still anticipated a battle though. I knew this because it got in place, and began to focus. Although it was feeling the pain of burn, it was powering up. Both its attack, and defense were increasing. Riolu was using Bulk Up, though it was a little pointless. If we were to continue battling it'd still be like it had its attack cut, and Chandelure wouldn't even use a Physical attack. It didn't matter to me though, I wanted to try to finish things now.

"You did wonderfully Chandelure. You did everything I've asked of you, and then-some without complaining. I'm just sorry that you had to endure that for as long as you did, but you can take it easy now, and sleep for as long as you want. I'll handle things now," I said, as I patted Chandelure on the head, and told it to relax. Short of actually knocking Riolu out, there was really nothing for it to do now. I put down my backpack, and went to pull out one of the balls I had. A normal Park Ball could, in theory, capture this Riolu, but I knew it was probably much too powerful for that. I pulled out a Hyper Ball, because I had a few on hand anyway, and because I knew they were my best shot at catching Riolu. I crossed my fingers, and threw the ball. I was hoping all of Chandelure's hard work would pay off, because if not then it was nearly the end for Riolu due to burn, and I'd worked too hard to let it slip through my fingers.

“You did wonderfully Chandelure,” Eric said, ignoring Riolu's glare and walking over to his partner. “You did everything I've asked of you, and then-some without complaining. I'm just sorry that you had to endure that for as long as you did, but you can take it easy now, and sleep for as long as you want. I'll handle things now.” Lightly patting the side of Chandelure's head, he pulled out another Ball- a Hyperball this time by the looks of it. Obviously he wanted to make sure that his first capture attempt on Riolu was successful. Being close enough where aiming wasn't even needed, Eric simply tossed the sphere straight at the Pokemon.

The Hyperball sucked in the young wild Pokemon, falling to the cavern floor and wobbling about several times before coming to a still. After waiting a moment to make sure that Riolu had indeed given up, Makina walked over to the Hyperball.

“Not exactly the most elegant capture, but you got in the end,” Makina remarked, gesturing to the half-melted ice around them as she pocketed the Ball. Thanks to the constant cold climate though, the water would soon freeze over again. “You may want to heal up your team before we continue on. Make sure to watch your step as well, the ground is still a little slick.”

“Not exactly the most elegant capture, but you got in the end,” Makina said pointing at the somewhat melted ice. I wasn't one for defensive strategies. I was an all-out attacker, and I think this here proved the benefits of that. If I was using defense like moves, then I'd probably still be locked in a stalemate with Riolu. At least this way Riolu was captured, and plus it was always cold here, so the water would probably refreeze in no time.

"Heh, well you should know by now I'm not the most cautious or elegant individual," I said chuckling a little. Everyone was different, me included.

“You may want to heal up your team before we continue on. Make sure to watch your step as well, the ground is still a little slick,” Makina said.

"Well, I'll just use my Full Heal to cure Chandelure for now, but its health is alright. I don't intend to battle with it again, same with Ambipom, so I feel it can just take a nice long rest, and I can heal up what is left of their injuries when I get home. It may not seem like the best way to you, but I know that for now nothing is better for it than natural rest. Plus if I heal it, then I might be tempted to use it again, and if I did that it might think I wasn't happy with it, or questioned its abilites, so," I said, as I used the Full Heal I had on it, and returned her to her Pokeball. "Well, I'm ready to continue whenever you are, and I'll be sure to watch my step. You watch yours too Scizor."

Eric nodded, pulling out a Full Heal out of his bag to cure Chandelure's poison. Since the Shop no longer stocked non-natural remedies, he must have bought this medicine a long time ago. Not that this was a problem; so long as he held on to the battle ofter being done with it there was no trouble at all. Once the medicine was applied though, he made no effort to use a healing item as well. “I don't intend to battle with it again, same with Ambipom, so I feel it can just take a nice long rest, and I can heal up what is left of their injuries when I get home,” Eric explained.

“True, and you still have one more Pokemon in reserve if I recall correctly,” Makina replied, watching the Trainer recall Chandelure back into her Ball. Using Roost on Scizor earlier had healed it considerably as well, so Eric had two teammates to pick from. As long as he didn't run into any more Fighting-types, things should go well.

“Well, I'm ready to continue whenever you are, and I'll be sure to watch my step. You watch yours too Scizor,” Eric said to his partner who had somehow managed to hide in the shadows during the fight. This was proof enough that it didn't matter if they were green, purple, or even bright red- any Bug-type could blend in to any environment.

Makina led them towards one of the few exits on the other side of the cavern, opting to take the one that appeared the most covered in ice still. Not only was there a higher chance that this one led outside once more, but would also possibly lead to an Ice-type or two. Before they could enter the tunnel proper though, they nearly ran into a small yellow Pokemon with pink markings. It was about the same size as Riolu, though any resemblance to the prior Pokemon ended there.

So much for avoiding any more Fighting-types, Makina silently groaned, then turned to Eric. “Interested in a Mienfoo?”

OOC: Gonna be odd posting in three different runs about Mienfoo at the same time. Female.

IC: “True, and you still have one more Pokemon in reserve if I recall correctly,” Makina remarked, when she heard me say I didn't intend to heal Chandelure. It was really nothing against Chandelure, it was just that it had worked hard enough for the time being. I figured it deserved a rest, because Riolu was a tough foe. Not to say I hadn't faced tough Pokemon in the park before, because I had faced the likes of Porygon, Rotom, and Larvesta. Either way though I still had Zoroark left, and if need be there was Scizor, although it had gone through two battles so far itself. Of course knowing my luck I'd probably run into a Fighting-type Pokemon next that I'd want, and then I'd be stuck making a decision. Oh well I guess I can just cross that bridge when I get to it. That is, if I ever get to it.

Makina led us towards one of the various exits on the other side of this cavern. This one appeared to be filled with ice. Makina no doubt led us this way, hoping we may encounter an Ice-type, since, short of Delibird, and Sneasel, I hadn't run into any Ice-types really. I don't count Kyurem since I couldn't actually battle it. Or maybe she was taking me this way, because it possibly led outside. I'd prefer that to tell you the truth. If we were outside I'd have a lot more free space to battle in, and I wouldn't need to be cautious of certain attacks. Of course though before we could even enter into the tunnel though, we almost bumped into a small yellow Pokemon. It had pink markings, that gave off the appearance of long sleeves on its arms, and pants on its legs. It wasn't much bigger than Riolu, and it was a Pokemon I had been hearing about in recent days, because apparently a lot of people were going after one. And like I said, of course with my luck this was a Fighting-type Pokemon, and one I wanted at that. I didn't even know why I bothered anymore.

“Interested in a Mienfoo?” Makina asked. How could I not be? Sure I already had captured four Pokemon, and you could only leave with three in the first place. I already knew I planned to ditch Machop, despite wanting a Machamp. But now if I went for Mienfoo, I'd probably be leaving without Sneasel as well. But was it worth it? Yes, yes it was. Mienshao was a pretty amazing battler. Its defenses weren't much to look at, but then again that was the case with pretty much all Fighting-type Pokemon short of Scrafty. Mienshao however had speed that you could rely on, incredible attack, and pretty decent special attack as well. Not to mention handy abilities in Regenerator, which would heal it when it switches out in a battle, and Reckless which would increase the power of moves that could make you crash such as Hi Jump Kick. And even if you ignore all of this, Mienfoo itself was pretty awesome, and worthy of not needing to be evolved. This was something I only shared in my head with a few Pokemon such as Scyther, and Litwick. My mind was made up, I knew what I was doing.

"You betcha. I'd love to take this thing on," I said, while I thought about which Pokemon I planned to use. I had Scizor, and Zoroark still who could both battle. Now, there was a good chance I planned to leave after Mienfoo, before I might run into something else I want, and then go battle it, and end up leaving without Scraggy or something. Scizor was the logical choice, but it didn't feel right to exclude Zoroark from everything. I had brought it here just like the others, so for it to not get a chance to battle felt wrong. I know it was outclassed by Fighting-types, so call me crazy, but I wanted to see Zoroark's abilities. The best way to truly determine what a Pokemon was capable of doing was to have it battle something it was mismatched against, and find a way to win. I knew what I was going to do, but I had a little plan to confuse this Mienfoo.

"Alright, Scizor return for a second. Now, come back out Scizor!" I yelled, as I threw Zoroark's Pokeball into the sky. Zoroark's ability was Illusion, an ability that would disguise the Pokemon as the last Pokemon in the users party. Why did I return Scizor, you may ask? It was simple really. While it was out Scizor either wasn't the last Pokemon in my party, therefore Zoroark would have appeared to be Ambipom, and still vulnerable to Fighting-type moves. Not to say it still isn't but until it's hurt Mienfoo might not think of using a Fighting-type move. The other reason was if I left Scizor out, and Zoroark took on the form of Scizor, well wouldn't that look a little odd? It'd seem like I had two Scizor on hand. I think if that was the case Mienfoo would just throw its hands, say "meh" and walk away. I knew what I was doing.

"Alright Scizor, get started with an Aerial Ace attack. With your Technician ability this attack should do a decent chunk, and be a good way to start off this battle," I said as I winked at Zoroark. This was a Flying-type attack, somewhat similar to Wing Attack, at least in terms of power anyway. While Wing Attack would hit you with wings, Aerial Ace would be used with speed. You would baffle your opponent with your speed, and strike when they were most vulnerable. Because of this, Aerial Ace was a hard attack to miss, even when your accuracy got lowered. Unless you hid behind a rock, or something.

Zoroark got into position, and braced itself. I didn't know how long this trick of mine would work, if it would even work at all since recalling Scizor, and sending what appeared to be it back out ten seconds later seemed odd enough. But whatever, I wasn't using Zoroark to rely on cheap tricks. I was using it, because I wanted to see how it would do when it was truly tested.
