    OOC: Sorry this took so long to go up man ;-;

    ~~~~~
    I found myself leaning against the outer wall of the Outpost at the Great Lakes. I was hiding from Ivy, who was on the warpath - she'd discovered that on my last run I'd gotten drunk with my Trainer and we'd stumbled our way length-wise through Meteor Valley. It was only thanks to Dual and the young man's Pokemon that we didn't end up buried ass-deep in a ditch.
    Thankfully, Ivy didn't have any flying Pokemon, so if she was going to chase me out here she'd have to use the teleporters. Unless she was rated to fly the helicopter. I shuddered as the scary thought crossed my mind. The last thing I wanted was a pissed-off Elite who was probably on her period chasing me down with a flying chunk of metal that weight just over five and a half tonnes.
    One of the secretaries rushed out of the building and up to me, her curly blonde hair threatening to rip free of the pins that held it in check. She was one of the newer hires, which was why she was out here in one of the side offices, gathering experience and learning the tricks that would make her a valuable addition to the Park Staff. Newbies tended to get frazzled and hit on a lot at the main office.
    "Carter, sir, we've got someone coming through on a run," the young woman said to me. She was panting a little bit, which made her chest jiggle ever so slightly. "Ms. Vines said that you could take it. She also said that if you did the same thing as last time she was going to clean out your innards with a loofah."
    I winced inwardly, but managed to hide it well. "Certainly, anything to keep her happy," I replied. "Send the info through to my PDA, I'll go open the gate."
    The secretary bustled back into the building. I watched her go before stretching my arms and legs and wandering over to the gate. My hand slipped into my pocket to pull out a small data-chip. I inserted the chip into a small slot and the large wrought-iron gate creaked open. Hopefully the Trainer wouldn't take too long to get here - I wanted to get back to vegging out in peace.
    I sat in a chair in the waiting room of the National Park. The waiting room was located in the building containing the Front Desk. It was where trainers went to apply for runs. Usually after I applied for a run I would just sit there, bored out of my mind until someone told me my ranger was ready for me. This was my third time in the park, and I had big ambitions for this one. I had my eye on the exact three Pokemon that I wanted. Staryu. Tynamo. Horsea. All would make excellent additions to my team, and Tynamo would be great for my gym back in Vermilion City.
    I sat in my chair, bored, and unable to think of anything creative. I checked out a couple of the secretaries, which I had heard were pretty hot, but they were all just average. After a while, I fell asleep.
    ZzZzZzZzZzZz
    "Mr. Fitch?" A voice said, startling me and waking me up.
    "Please, just call me Captain." I said with a wink as I saw one of the average secretaries standing over me. Hey, just cause they're average, doesn't mean I wouldn't bang them.
    "You're ranger is waiting for you at the gates." She said seductively as she handed me a paper with her number on it.
    I looked at the paper she gave me and crumbled it up. "Why don't we have a quicky in the bathroom before I go?" I said.
    "Sounds fantastic Captain." She said with her mouth drooling from how much she wanted me.
    bangbangbang
    I walked out of the bathroom, fixing my pants as I made my way out the door, headed for the Great Lakes. I was pissed I didn't bring a flying type with me, because this was going to be a long walk.
    Just kidding, I got there in like two point three seconds and I saw a familiar figure waiting at the gate.
    "Hey Chainy! Whats up my man?" I said as I approached the Elite Ranger, one hand in front of me and the other out to my side, preparing to give the ranger a bro hug.
    I was leaning against the gate, waiting for my Trainer to arrive, when I heard the path-stones crunch repeatedly. A telltale sign of someone arriving - probably my Trainer. I yawned and turned my head to see who it was; hopefully it was a hot chick. At least that way I wouldn't be bored the whole way through the run.
    It was someone even better - a Trainer by the name of Ed Fitch. We'd been on the last ever Expedition to the Outer Heavens before they collapsed. I always thought it had been something to do with the final battle I'd witnessed, but I'd never said anything. Not like it mattered.
    "Hey Chainy! Whats up my man?" Ed called out, extending his hand.
    I grinned and stepped forward, catching his hand in my own in the young style. We then bumped shoulders and I slapped his upper arm in a friendly way.
    "Ed, man, it's been too long! I heard you'd been around the Park since our last run, but it's been far too long."
    We walked inside the gate, which automatically swung closed. I whistled loudly and the secretary stuck her head out of one of the Outpost's windows. I pointed at myself and Ed and then down towards the lake. She nodded and waved us off. I thought I saw her giving Ed a speculative look, but didn't comment on it.
    The path down to the lakes was made of the same stones as the entry path, and they made a pleasant crunching sound under our feet. I cracked my neck and looked over to the main lake, which we were approaching - it was fresh-water, which meant it was mostly populated with inland Pokemon, like Squirtle, Croagunk and Tympole.
    "So, anything in particular you're looking for?" I asked my Trainer. I looked down and saw a Pokeplayer on his belt - he'd used one last time, looking for a Skarmory. We'd found it in the end, which had been quite an accomplishment. "Don't forget to turn that thing on."
    "Ed, man, it's been too long! I heard you'd been around the Park since our last run, but it's been far too long." Chainy said, grabbing my hand and accepting my bro hug.
    "I know man. I guess I'm becoming a big deal around the Park since they're giving me Elite Rangers now, eh?" I said jokingly.
    Chainy whistled up at the watch tower to a secretary to open the gate. She was a 7. She also gave me this dirty ass look... I guess word spreads fast around here.
    Either way, we entered the Park and it was quite a beautiful area. I love water and the beach, so this was going to be an awesome expedition.
    "So, anything in particular you're looking for?" Chainy looked over at me and asked.
    "Yeah, very particular actually." I chuckled. "Tynamo for my gym, Staryu for my main battling team, and Horsea to help me beat a few gyms. I love the water and all, but I wanna try and get this shit done as fast as possible. My last run took way longer than I had hoped, although it paid off since I left with a Porygon and a Rotom. But anyway, let's get going, shall we?"
    I took out my Pokeplayer and inserted the disk labeled "Borderline: Horsea". A faint cry could be heard emitting from the device, it was that of a Horsea so that it would attract said species. Then I took out a bottle labeled "Rock Type Repellant" and sprayed it all over myself. It smelled like... I don't even know... something that Rock-types don't like I guess.
    I was looking forward to getting this run started, but most of all I wanted to get in the water and swim.
    Following my suggestion, Ed turned on the Pokeplayer. It began emitting the calls of one of the Pokemon that Ed had mentioned - it was high-pitched and bubbly, and I recognised it as the call of a Horsea. He then pulled out one of the repellants that were sold at the store and sprayed it around himself. It had a slight tangy scent to it, one that kind of reminded me of those health-nut potato chips. The all-organic ones. I asked which type of Pokemon Ed was repelling, and he told me it was the Rock type. It made sense - most of the Rock-type Pokemon that were found here in the Great Lakes were Fossil Pokemon, and they were in that strange cross-section of a Venn Diagram where one circle was powerful and the other was easily obtainable. Just like the pseudo-legendaries, they were commonly bred because they were in demand, and a great challenge for young breeders. My younger brother Jathan hadn't yet tried to breed any, but I heard he was preparing to give it a shot soon.
    We reached the edge of the water. The waves lapped up against the shore, which was more like a river-side than a beach as there was no sand. A small cluster of reeds was off to our left, and they swayed ever so gently in the slight breeze. The docks were just over to the right, but seeing as Ed wasn't an idiot I was pretty sure he would have brought a Surfing Pokemon.
    I decided to take him left, and as we passed the reeds I heard an eerie echoing call. I turned around just in time to notice a jellyfish-like Pokemon sticking its rounded head out of the water just inside the reeds. I nudged Ed with my arm and jerked my head towards the Wild Pokemon.
    "There's a Frillish over there, they're pretty rare," I said to him. "I know they're not on your list, but Jellicent are pretty powerful, and it never hurts to have a back-up in case one of your disks don't work."
    OOC: Frillish shall be a female.
    ~~wigglewigglewigglewigglewiggle~~
    The cobble stone trail faded into grass as we made our way deeper into the park. There were a bunch of rivers, big and small, snaking through the grassland. The bigger ones had bridges on them so that you could walk over them without going too far out of your way. After walking through the Abandoned Power Plant, it was nice to be in such a beautiful open area. Surprisingly, we hadn't seen any Pokemon lurking in the waters for a few yards.
    I looked over to my right at the Docks. They would be perfect for fishing. As much as I love fishing, I never looked at it as a good way to catch Pokemon, I preferred to do it for relaxation and enjoyment. I started to drift off, thinking about how it'd be nice to just forget about the park expedition for a couple hours and chill on the dock, fishing with Chainy. My thoughts were interrupted though when I felt something nudge on my arm.
    "There's a Frillish over there, they're pretty rare," The Elite Ranger said to me. "I know they're not on your list, but Jellicent are pretty powerful, and it never hurts to have a back-up in case one of your disks don't work."
    I looked to where he was pointing and saw a pink jelly fish looking Pokemon majestically floating in the water, it's head bobbing up and down as it looked at us curiously.
    I pondered it for a few moments. I had zero interest in Jellicent from a battling perspective, but I could possible trade it to a Water-type Gym Leader or a Ghost-type Gym Leader if I don't get lucky enough to catch the Pokemon I want. Plus, they weren't that tough to battle, so it wouldn't be a huge waste of time.
    "Yeah I think I'll take that thing on." I replied.
    Now, which Pokemon to use? I had only brought two with me; Skip the Swampert and Buzz the Electivire. Both have been with me quite a long time, especially Buzz who was my starter Pokemon. This was also both of their second time in the Park. Buzz came with me to the Outer Heavens for my first trip where he helped me catch Sigilyph and Drifblim, while Swampert had single handedly took on Porygon2 back at the Abandoned Power Plant. Buzz had the clear advantage against Frillish, so I didn't hesitate much to make the decision.
    "Alright, Buzz, come on out." I said as I calmly tossed the Pokeball to the ground, the large yellow yeti-looking Pokemon emerging from the burst of light. Buzz stretched and his tails sparked with electricity, showing his excitement to be able to battle.
    I wasn't sure what to expect from the dual Water and Ghost-type. I didn't know if it would be tricky like ghost types are known to be. I didn't know if it would stay in the water. I decided the best way to go about this would be to play defensive for the first turn, and get an idea of what this Pokemon was going to battle like.
    "Listen up Buzz, play it smart for the start. Set up a Substitute and then once it's set up, use Meditate." I called out.
    I wanted to get a Substitute up mostly in case Frillish noticed it was at a huge disadvantage and went for something like Confuse Ray. The Meditate was to raise my attack power so I could hit Jellicent harder when the time came.
    Buzz nodded and began to execute the commands. He concentrated hard and began to exert all his energy into creating a carbon coby of himself. You could visibly see the energy draining from Buzz's body and into a concentration of mass in front of him, until that mass began to take the shape of an Electivire. The Substitute Electivire would take any hits for Buzz and also absorb any status attacks.
    Then, the real Buzz bowed his head down and put his hands together. A red glow began to outline his body as he continued to meditate. He snapped out of it with a battle cry and flexing of his muscles, showing off the new strength that he had acquired through meditation.
    Now it was time to see what the wild Pokemon would do.
    ~~~~~

    Ed considered it, looking at the pink jellyfish with narrowed eyes. He kind of reminded me of my friend Leo - when he went on an expedition, he was very single-minded. He only stopped to catch Pokemon that were on his list; he commonly avoided Pokemon that were powerful or in great demand just so he could try to find his targets quicker.

    However, while there were similarities Ed wasn't exactly the same, and I could see in his eyes that the Frillish was starting to win him over. "Yeah I think I'll take that thing on," he finally said. "Alright, Buzz, come on out."

    Ed gently tossed a standard red-and-white PokeBall onto the ground, and it burst open to reveal an Electivire. There weren't many of them around, despite their power, but I knew my elder brother Jakk used one in his Gym. I remembered this particular Electivire, though - Ed had brought him on our Outer Heavens trip, and he'd done extremely well battling against the Pokemon Ed had encountered there, especially the Drifblim. The large yellow beast stretched his arms out like he'd just finished a nap, and yellow electricity jumped between the two prongs of his black tail.

    "Listen up Buzz, play it smart for the start. Set up a Substitute and then once it's set up, use Meditate," my Trainer ordered.

    Substitute was a move that Trainers didn't often use in the Park. It was a fantastic battling technique, but for some reason they usually eschewed the practise as it was a "definite loss of health" as opposed to the potential loss of battling bare. Ed was being a lot more pragmatic, which was good to see - he knew Buzz was going to take damage, but by using Substitute that damage would most likely be limited.

    Buzz closed his eyes and bunched his muscles. A soft white light began to shine from him, except I could see the light was made up of many fast-moving particles that seemed to swirl on the Pokemon's surface. They became brighter and more pronounced, and when the Electivire was completely covered they seemed to phase through him, towards the Frillish. The small blobs began to colour themselves, and inside of half a minute an exact copy of Buzz was standing between the Frillish and the real one.

    The Electivire took this chance to raise his attack power as he had been commanded. He clasped his hands together in front of his face and lowered his head. Red energy began to play around his head and wrists as his muscles all over his body bunched up. The clone was doing the same thing, except the red light was not present on it. The Frillish approached slowly, raising her head out of the water and revealing her body. She spat a stream of light-blue bubbles towards Buzz, but the Substitute intercepted them. It took a step forwards and raised one hand towards the bubbles, as if to catch them. The stream of bubbles all made contact with the Substitute's palm, making large cannon-esque explosions on each hit, but the large yellow copy didn't seem to notice them.

    The Frillish backed up a bit, clearly miffed by its failure to do any damage. The Water-type took in a deep breath, and its body and head expanded visibly. When it exhaled, the air was tinted blue, and the Mist moved out quickly around the Wild Pokemon. It moved all across the top of the water and right to the edge of the lake. Ed would have to be careful with his commands here - not only did the Mist made the Frillish impervious to weakening moves, but the Water-type could easily hide inside the fog for the best part of this battle.

    OOC: With the whole eye flashlight thing, I was thinking about the Ash vs Paul battle with Vire vs Nape where there's all the smoke and then you see Vire's eyes glowing red and shining through it, ya know?
    ____________________________

    Buzz and his Substitute stared down the jellyfish-looking Pokemon. The Frillish responded to the Electric-type's combo by launching a Bubblebeam attack. Tons of tiny pebbles shot from Frillish's mouth. Buzz's Substitute did it's job though. It stood inbetween Buzz and the attack and effortlessly blocked with, holding out his large yellow hand and absorbing all the tiny exploding bubbles. After the first attack, the Substitute was still going strong.

    Noticing the immense physical disadvantage that it was at, the female Frillish decided to get a little sneaky. It began to emit a hazey mist out of it's mouth. The mist was rather thick and hazey, making it nearly impossible to see through it. Luckily, Frillish was a vibrant pink color, and would stand out amongst not only the hazey mist but also the clear blue water.

    My concern was layed to rest though. Buzz took a few steps forward, putting himself in the middle of the Mist. His eyes glowed bright red, becoming basically flashlights. And when you have flashlights built into your eyes, it makes it pretty easy to see. This was one of the Electivire species' really cool traits, along with their go-go-gadget electrically charged tails. I doubt Electivire had a perfect view of everything, but it was certainly better than before.

    I noticed that the light coming from his eyes helped me as well. I could see exactly where Buzz was looking, as the mist showed the path of the light emitting from Buzz's eyes. The red cone shaped path went straight from the Electric-types eyes and was concentrated on the water, where I could barely make out a small pink figure; Frillish.

    I realized that I had another advantage developing from this. When a light is facing you, it's easier for other things to see you, but it really messes up your ability to see infront of you. Therefore, Frillish wouldn't be able to see Buzz as well as normal. I had to use this oppurtunity to launch a good attack. With Frillish being a Water-type sitting in a river and Buzz having his attack strength boosted, a physical Electric-type move would be perfect. But, would it be Thunder Punch or Wild Charge?

    Wild Charge was the more powerful of the two moves, but it damaged the user as well. Recoil damage wasn't something that a Substitute could protect against, and seeing as how producing the Substitute caused some damage to Buzz, I didn't want to take anymore damage.

    Thunder Punch seemed to be the smart choice. Buzz was very good with punching attacks and it was much easier to aim a Thunder Punch than a Wild Charge.

    "Buzz, hit it with a Thunder Punch!" I called out to the big yellow electrical yeti.

    Hopefully the water would conduct the electric attack and cause even more damage to Frillish, and maybe Buzz would be able to use the electrically charged water to activate his ability. My mind began to drift off as I envisioned the attack working as I wanted.

    <Buzz pulled his fist back as it began cackling with electrical energy. He mumbled to himself as the electricity began to explode from his fist and encloak his entire forearm. The light from the electricity made it quite easy to see through the mist, as well as the light emitting from Buzz's eyes. With one swift movement, Buzz jumped forward, swinging his fist over his head and coming down on the Water-type, clobbering it and sending it plunging to the bottom of the shallow river. As Buzz's forearm entered the water on the follow through, the water began to pulse with electrical energy, currents of electric running through it and seemingly turn the water green from the combination of yellow electric and blue water. Buzz held his forearm in the water as the electricity pulsed through the river, he grinned and laughed as the electrical currents he had caused striked him and pulsed through his body, activating his Motor Drive ability.>

    OOC: I don't, but I think I got the idea.

    ~~~~~
    Without even waiting for a reply, Buzz stepped forward into the lake. Water lapped around his ankles, and he made a small murmuring sound. Suddenly, two red beams of light lanced through the fog. They stayed parallel and roamed around the mist, looking for the Frillish. It took me a couple seconds to realise that the light was being emitted from Buzz's eyes. I'd never known that that particular ability was one the Thunderbolt Pokemon could utilise.
    Ed was quiet. He watched the red lights move throughout the fog as Buzz searched for the Frillish, waiting to command until the Electric-type finally located its opponent. "Buzz, hit it with a Thunder Punch!"he called out.
    I could just make out the Electivire's form as he pulled back his arm. Sparks leapt from his tail over to his right arm, coating him from his knuckles to his forearms in raw yellow power. He then hunched low before jumping up high into the air. Buzz's physical prowess was impressive - few Pokemon could jump right out of the water at a moment's notice. He flew through the air and punched the Frillish viciously, sending it straight under the water and crashing to the bottom of the lake. The strike was so strong that water was forced away - it was almost like a bowl-shaped force field was holding the water back.
    Buzz retreated back into the water, trying to wade back to the shore as fast as he could. The bowl began to fill back up, but it did so abnormally quickly. A huge torrent of water leapt into the air, heading towards Buzz. However, the Frillish had once again forgotten Buzz's Substitute. The copy hadn't followed him into the water - it had stayed on the land. It took this opportunity to jump towards the incoming Water Spout. The attack blasted into the fake Electivire, crashing into and bending back like the Substitute was a rock. Unfortunately, there was a price - the Substitute faded into a puff of white smoke. Now Buzz was completely unprotected from whatever the Frillish intended to throw at it, and the Water-type was nowhere to be seen.
    OOC: Sorry this post took a while and sorry about how shitty these posts are and how I'm like dragging this out. I'm just really not feeling it, especially with this post. Sorry, man, it'll get better.
    Buzz stepped into the ankle deep part of the water and clobbered his opponent with an overhand swing. Frillish was sent flying to the bottom of the lake from the impact of the force, although what happened next was something I did not expect.
    The force of the blow caused a bowl to form in the water, a couple yards in diameter that left Buzz completely on dry land. Do to this, the Thunder Punch attack did not conduct with the water like I had planned. Buzz began to retreat back to dry land as the bowl closed. He narrowly escaped being sucked in the river, but the relief was short lived as a huge torrent of water made, out of no where, emerged from the water and headed towards Buzz. Luckily, Buzz's Substitute has excellent reactions and was able to intercept the incoming attack. Water Spout, being such a powerful move, immediately destroyed the Substitue on impact. Although saddened by the loss of the Substitute in only two attacks, I was relieved that Buzz didn't have to take that attack head on. Suddenly, I came to the realization that Frillish was a heavily special attacking Pokemon. If I wanted to be more defensive, I could use Light Screen to boost Buzz's resistance to special attacks.
    "Buzz, quick, use Light Screen to up your Special Defenses!" I called out.
    Light Screen would certainly make up for losing the Substitute, although the downside was that i was no vulnerable to those status condition attacks again.
    Buzz began to concentrate and hold his hands out in front of him. Almost like a mime, he began to move his hands around as a light pink wall became more visible with every movement of his big yellow hands, until there was clearly a transparent pink wall of energy in front of him. He concentrated once more, and the wall spread out and encloaked his body, making sure that he would be protected no matter where he goes.
    OOC: It's perfectly alright man, don't push yourself.
    ~~~~~

    Buzz slowly got to his feet, using his black two-pronged tail to help balance himself. When the Electivire was safely upright, he looked out towards the lake, which was still swelling but noticeably calmer. One effect of the huge Water Spout attack had been to cut through the majority of the Mist - the Frillish was now in plain sight, its head bobbing on the top of the water. The Electric-type blinked and cut off the red beams; they were no longer needed.

    "Buzz, quick, use Light Screen to up your Special Defenses!" Ed called out.

    It was an interesting change in tactics - the Trainer had been battling very offensively so far. I wondered what made him switch to defense. Perhaps it had been the loss of Buzz's Substitute, although I doubted it. Those things were made to be broken, everyone knew that, and it had absorbed a huge chunk of damage that the Electivire would have otherwise had to shoulder.

    Buzz raised his hands and began moving them in strange circles. A pink energy wall began to materialise, hovering solidly just in front of the Electivire. The shield would help reduce damage from any long-range attacks, which is what the Frillish specialised in.

    The Water-type frowned a little bit before opening its mouth. A bright multi-coloured orb floated out and danced its way towards Buzz, bobbing left and right in a seductive weave. The Electivire watched the orb, enraptured. When it was a few metres from the Light Screen, the orb exploded like a bucket of fireworks, sending colours jetting in all different directions in a myriad of sparks. Buzz took a step back and blinked, trying to clear his vision. I knew what the Wild Pokemon had done - it realised that its normal attacks wouldn't be as effective, so it had instead confused its opponent and planned on having Buzz do the damage to himself!

    Frillish frowned a bit at the sight of the Light Screen being executed; not only was it weird to see a Ghost-type show emotion, but it was interesting that it knew Light Screen was going to pose a threat. This young Pokemon was much smarter than I had anticipated.

    Both me and my opponent pondered on what to do next for a minute, and apparently the Frillish was a quicker thinker than myself. It immediately began to open it's mouth and let out a ominous orb that floated haphazardly towards Buzz. Despite the slow movement of said attack, Buzz didn't try to avoid it at all. He just watched it come towards him, in a trance. When it was about to make contact, it stopped dead in it's tracks, and exploded like a firecracker. Buzz was startled and jumped back, and when I saw his face, I noticed his eyes were completely distorted and he was clearly not in a good state of mind. After regaining his balance, he wobbled around. Buzz was clearly in a state of confusion and in danger of damaging himself. It was quite a smart move by Frillish, although a respectable one. It knew that it wouldn't be able to deal damage on it's own, so it would try to have Buzz and damage itself as well as stall out the Light Screen.

    "Buzz, snap out of it!" I called out, desperately.

    I began to think of a a good move to use in case Buzz was able to fight through the confusion. Something accurate, but that would deal good damage as well, and that was easy to execute.

    Shock Wave!

    Shock Wave was a move that never missed, so it would be perfect for this situation, seeing as how if Buzz is able to execute it he won't have to worry about missing do to being disoriented. Also, if he hits himself with the attack, it would be a good thing because of Motor Drive!

    "Buzz, fight through the confusion! Use Shock Wave!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, hoping to snap the Electric-type out of it.

    If all went well, Buzz would be able to at least fight through the confusion momentarily and raise his electrically charged black tentacles high in the air, which would let of a quick jolt of blue electricity that literally would travel at the speed of light, making it impossible for the water-bound Ghost-type to react.

    "Buzz, snap out of it!" Ed called out in a very worried-sounding tone of voice. It always hurt to see your Pokemon in pain, but I hated seeing them confused even more. Something about them not being able to control their thoughts or actions made it seem much more sinister than it really was. Dual had been confused before, and he'd shown me memories of the experience - while they were unpleasant, they weren't painful, and it was akin to being disoriented and having your nerves mirror-imaged so that attempting to throw a right jab resulted in a kick with your left foot.

    The Electivire managed to steady himself with one hand on the ground, but his head was still swaying from side to side. Still, simply waiting for the Frillish to attack wasn't a good strategy, confusion or none, and Ed seemed to know that. "Buzz, fight through the confusion! Use Shock Wave!" he yelled out.

    Small sparks began crawling over the large yellow beast. He put his hands to his head and crouched low in an attempt to still his mind, but it wasn't working too well. The Frillish watched on in contempt, and raised itself up higher in the water until almost its entire body was in the air. The Water-type began to glow a soft white, which took on a very definite and solid shape - it reminded me kind of like the energy shielding that soldiers had in the video games I play. The aura thickened, especially where the Frillish moved a lot, like at its elbows and neck.

    Buzz finally let out a heart-rending scream and a huge blast of sparks went flying out towards the lake. They moved like the waves below them, and they curled around the Frillish and electrocuted it mercilessly. The Water-type squealed until the attack ended and the sparks faded away. It had a murderous look in its eyes, and I knew whatever was coming next would not be pleasant.

    Buzz fought through the confusion, managing to fire off a quick wave of electricity that the Frillish had no chance to avoid. That was my favorite part about Shock Wave, it was impossible for it to miss.

    Frillish was pissed off that it's confusion didn't work, so it decided to counter what I've set up with Buzz. Knowing that it couldn't damage Buzz with special attacks due to the Light Screen, it decided the best thing it could do is raise it's lousy physical attack power. However, Frillish doesn't have any attack boosting move of it's own, but it does have access to a move all Pokemon can learn; Psych Up. Psych Up is a move that copies the stat changes of the opponent. This means that Frillish would be able to copy the attack power boost that Buzz acquired through Meditate.

    Frillish's body glowed bright white, floating above the water and wiggling all around, the aura thickening with every movement. The whole time, it was looking Buzz directly in the eyes and concentrating. Suddenly, Frillish appeared to of had the same murderous look that buzz had after using Meditate, it was certainly stronger than it was a minute ago.

    Buzz was still confused, stumbling about and having to support itself with its hand on the ground. The confusion was starting to clear up, but the odds were against Buzz fighting through it on this next turn. I had to continue trying to deal damage, this battle was certainly getting too long for my liking. Another Electric-type attack would deal a good amount of damage and also give me the chance of a paralysis.

    "Buzz! I need you to snap out of it! Use Thunderbolt!" I called out, desperately. It was killing me to see my friend in such a state.

    I hoped and preyed, and imagined what Buzz would do if all went well.

    <Buzz hesitated after hearing my commands. He stayed on one knee on the ground, concentrating hard on trying to fight through this confusion. After a few seconds that seemed like a few hours, he was able to rise up to his feet and balance himself. He seemed to be out of it, but was focused only on attacking Frillish. He clenched his fists and pulled his arms in tight, contracting his muscles as electricity pulsed through his body, his tentacles slowly rising straight in the air as jolts of electricity jumped from one black tentacle to the other, until they all worked their way to the red tips, where a cluster of yellow electrical energy was forming. It was the size of an exercise ball when Buzz let out a ferocious battle cry and released it. The jagged beam of electricity shot through the air as it arched and twisted, heading directly at the waiting wild Pokemon.>

    "Buzz, I need you to snap out of it! Use Thunderbolt!" Ed almost screamed.

    The Electivire's swaying was getting so bad that he was stumbling around on his feet. Finally he collapsed onto his side, one of his powerful arms propping him up off the ground. His head was full-on spinning, and I doubted that he had the coherence to fire off any Thundershocks, let alone Thunderbolts.

    Meanwhile, out on the water, the Frillish's armour had started to glow even brighter. It flung its arms and legs backwards and this had the effect of causing it to fly forwards. The water flew upwards and backwards as the Water-type blasted toward Buzz. The Wild Pokemon was moving faster than I would have believed possible. It crash-tackled Buzz, passing straight through the Light Screen and knocking him over onto his back and causing him to cry out in pain. Unfortunately for the Frillish, this had the unintended side-effect of startling an electrical discharge out of the Thunderbolt Pokemon. The Electric-type attack blasted the Frillish clear into the sky and back into the lake, trailing a small black stream of vapour behind it.

    Buzz didn't get onto his feet, and I suddenly realised what the Pokemon was doing. Since it couldn't control its attacks, he was trying to not move at all, and wait out the confusion. Unfortunately, that usually didn't work, and the longer you spent confused the more chance you had of hurting yourself really badly. This battle needed to end, and soon, or else Buzz was at risk of taking a serious health hit.

    Buzz didn't respond to my command, he just kept swaying back and forth, using every fiber of his being to try and snap out of this state of confusion. Frillish, being the smart Pokemon that it's proven to be, decided to take advantage of this opportunity and attack. Using it's newly found physical strength, it crouched low in the water, it's body glowing white as it scrunched up it's face and growled. After a few seconds, it launched itself towards Buzz, who was still attempting to steady himself. Frillish made perfect contact, and by using a physical move, was able to pass through the Light Screen. The attack startled the unsuspecting Electric-type, and between the fear and force of the blow, he was sent to the ground, flat on his back.

    When Buzz made contact with the ground, his body twitched and a burst of electrical energy was shot from his tentacles directly at the Water-type, hitting it dead on just as Frillish had done to Buzz. Buzz's inadvertent attack did even more damage than Frillish's Facade attack, and brought Frillish down to a critical amount of health.

    Buzz didn't move from his spot on the ground. He wasn't hurt or knocked out, he just found it easier to keep his head straight during his confusion while laying down.

    Both Pokemon were pretty badly hurt, mainly Frillish who was now breathing heavily and moving slower than usual. Seeing an opportunity to end this battle now, I immediately ordered an attack.

    "Buzz, focus! Fire off a Discharge. Make sure it's really staticy so that we have an extra chance of scoring a paralysis!" I called out.

    I was hoping that Buzz would be able to get the attack off while on the ground. I was also hoping, though it seemed like a pipe dream, that he would have enough awareness to focus the attack more on being potent enough to cause a paralyze than doing more damage, since paralysis would make this Pokemon much easier to catch. I imagined the whole scenario playing out in my head. If this attack hit, I was going to try and capture that Frillish.

    <Buzz stayed flat on the ground, his black tentacles working their way straight up in the air. There seemed to be a magnetic force happening between the tips of the tails, and sparks of electricity began to emit from them. Soon, those sparks at formed a circle. The circle grew larger and larger with every second, and the hair on my head began to stand up from all the static in the air. When the circle was about a yard in diameter, it burst in all directions, covering the entire area as far as I could see, and striking the Frillish. Frillish caught the brunt of the attack, and was literally being electrocuted. When it eventually wore off, Frillish still had electricity sparking off of it, a clear sign that it had been paralyzed.

    Seeing the perfect opportunity to catch the Pokemon, I pulled a standard Park Ball out of my back pocket and twirled it in my fingers as it grew from the size of a ping pong ball to the size of a softball. I wound up like a baseball pitcher and carefully aimed, before executing an overhead throw that sailed through the air and connected with the wild Pokemon.>

    ~~~~~
    The Frillish landed in the lake with a small splash; it must not be a very heavy Pokemon. I could see by the way it was just barely keeping its head out of the water that it was getting very tired. Still, it seemed determined to try and take its opponent down, and it wasn't stupid enough to try long-range attacks, so it started swimming towards Buzz again, albeit with none of the super-speed from before.
    "Buzz, focus! Fire off a Discharge. Make sure it's really static-ey so that we have an extra chance of scoring a paralysis!" Ed shouted desperately.
    The Electivire made a noise that was a cross between a whine and a growl. Nevertheless, a small circle of electricity began growing between the two prongs of Buzz's tail. It began to grow and make a crackling noise as the Frillish approached, and flung itself desperately out of the water. Its frilly legs wrapped around Buzz's chest, and it used its arms to try and strangle the large Electric-type. Buzz started coughing, and the Discharge that was growing suddenly detonated. The Frillish was sent flying again, but this time it landed on the ground. The lack of a real thud confirmed my previous theory of its apparent lack of weight.
    Ed pulled out a Park Ball and prepared to throw it. I nodded approvingly - this battle going on any longer would mean bad news for everyone. Buzz couldn't take much more without being seriously hurt, and the Frillish looked like it was on the verge of fainting. Ed threw the ball pitcher-style, which was a little bit overboard considering it was several metres away, but the sphere made contact nevertheless. The Water-type was absorbed in a flash of red light. The ball shook for a couple seconds before laying still and emitting the familiar "successful capture" tone.
    "Congratulations," I said to Ed as I went over to pick up the ball. "You should probably check on Buzz and then we can get moving."
    The Frillish tried to get in an attack before Buzz could, it began to charge towards the Electric-type, although much slower than usual. Buzz stayed flat on the ground, his black tentacles working their way straight up in the air. I wound up like a baseball pitcher and carefully aimed, before executing an overhead throw that sailed through the air and connected with the wild Pokemon.
    After a few seconds of wobbling, the ball dinged, noting me of my capture.
    "Congratulations," Chainy said to me as he walked over and picked up the ball. "You should probably check on Buzz and then we can get moving."
    Without a response, I jogged over to Buzz who was laying flat on the ground still, and panting.
    "Good job, bud. That was impressive. Here, eat up this Energy Powder and then rest up in your ball, you'll be back to one-hundred percent in no time."
    I panted Buzz on his chest and fed him a powdery substance that I bought from the Park Store which heals a Pokemon's health. It didn't cure confusion, but once Buzz rested in his Pokeball, his confusion would cure.
    When he finished eating the powder, I returned him to his Pokeball, thanking him again for his effort.
    I took my Pokeplayer back out and pressed play, still using the Horsea Disk.
    "Ready when you are." I said to Chainy with a smile on my face.
    Ed jogged quickly over to his Pokemon at my suggestion. He knelt down next to the large yellow beast and pulled out a small packet of gray/white powder.
    "Good job, bud, that was impressive," he said as he opened up the packet. "Here, eat up this Energy Powder and then rest up in your ball, you'll be back to one-hundred percent in no time."
    He thudded on Buzz's chest and the Electivire opened his mouth tiredly. The young man poured the powder into the Pokemon's mouth and then detached its PokeBall from his belt. I just got a quick glimpse of the sour look on the Pokemon's face before it was returned by a flash of red light. Most Pokemon hated the bitter taste of the healing powders sold by the shop, but in comparison to the traditional Potions and Revives they were cheap to produce, much healthier for the Pokemon, and kinder to the environment in all regards.
    "Ready when you are." Ed grinned at me. It was always great to start an Expedition out with a capture. He turned the Pokeplayer back on and indicated for me to lead the way.
    I took him around the path, which followed the edge of the lake. Originally, a small, approximately foot-high mini-cliff kept the water away from us, but this smoothed out into a small beach, albeit with dirt instead of sand. There were large pieces of driftwood here, and experience taught me that these logs made perfect Krabby and Crawdaunt habitats.
    As we walked around the log, I saw something very different. A large blue alligator was snuffing at the underneath of the log. Before my brain registered this information, the Feraligatr turned and saw it. It roared at us, but I thought I detected a note of hesitation in its bellow. Still, that didn't mean it wasn't capable of ripping us limb from limb.
    "If you don't want to battle that thing, I suggest we start running right the hell now," I said to Ed in a deliberately high-pitched tone.
    Chainy took the lead and we made our way around the corner. The area we entered was a rather, dare I say, ghetto looking beach, with a bunch of dirt in place of sand and driftwood laying around. Chainy and I made our way around a large log, where we noticed a large blue alligator sniffing and clawing at the wood.
    The Feraligatr let out a mighty roar, although it didn't sound too confident. Who did this guy think he was? Yelling at me lie that. I don't give a shit if your a seven foot tall alligator, I got an Electric-type on my belt that will rape your shit, son!
    "If you don't want to battle that thing, I suggest we start running right the hell now," Chainy said with a sense of urgency in his voice.
    "Boy, I don't know who you think you are!" I yelled at the Water-type. "Stepping up in here and growling at me like that! I'll make you my bi-" My rant was caught off by a snarl from the wild Pokemon. It wasn't loud, but it scared the shit out of me.
    "On a second thought, lets get out of here, and get a Pokedoll ready." I said to Chainy, my voice cracking on every other word.
    I made sure I sneaked a press of the 'play' button on my Disk Player, which still had the Horsea Voice Disk in it.
