    ~~~~~
    I didn't make eye contact with Ed. I was too busy keeping an eye on the Feraligatr in case it decided to charge us. That was the main reason why I didn't see what Ed did next coming.
    "Boy, I don't know who you think you are!" he practically screamed at the hulking Water-type. "Stepping up in here and growling at me like that! I'll make you my-"
    The Feraligatr raised its upper lip and snarled, a noise that was scarier than a roar or a growl, simply because of the inherent evil. It was a noise that promised pain and suffering, and it took me all of one fifteenth of a milli-second to decide that I didn't want to be here any more.
    "Dude screw this, I'm out of here," I said to Ed, turning to run.
    "Yeah, on a second thought, let's get out of here, and get a Pokedoll ready," he said, following me. Little did he know I had already dropped one before legging it. We sped away, and I thought I heard the sound of a PokeDoll being savaged although that could have just been my imagination. I stopped to catch my breath, and Ed followed suit.
    "I think it's probably fallen behind," I panted, putting my hands on my knees to steady myself. I was just wishing for some shade from the hot sun when some magically passed over me. I looked up in surprise and saw a large bird circling over us. It was white, with a huge yellow/orange beak and blue markings on its wings. The Pokemon released a cry, which echoed away across the waves.
    "Feel like capturing a Pelipper?" I asked Ed.
    Chainy and I began to jet it the hell out of there. I didn't even bother looking back, but I'm pretty sure Chainy had to throw a Pokedoll.
    "I think it's probably fallen behind," Chainy said, panting. I flopped on the ground and laid flat on my back to rest after the sprint.
    Suddenly, I heard a bird caw, and saw a large white figure flying in the sky above me. Was it God...? Did the Feraligatr get me...?
    "Feel like capturing a Pelipper?" Chainy asked me, snapping me out of my confused state.
    "Nah dude, those things blow." I responded. Just as I said that, the giant pelican shat on my face. I cursed under my breath as I got to my feet and wiped my face off. "Get a doll ready in case it follows."
    Then I kept playing the Horsea Disk.
    "Nah dude, those things blow," he replied.
    The Pelipper must have heard him, because a great big lumpy pile of white droppings landed squarely in the middle of his face, hitting him with such force that Ed was actually knocked onto the ground. He swore and wiped the majority of the excrement off with a swipe of his hand before getting back up onto his feet.
    "Get a doll ready in case it follows," he said.
    It did. The Pelipper followed us for a good five minutes, continually dive-bombing and crapping on Ed. Thankfully, it was purposely avoiding me, so by walking off to the side I didn't get any white flecks on me. Finally, Ed groaned and gave me five-hundred crap-flecked dollars and I threw a doll away from the lake, towards the trees. The Pelipper soared off after it, giving Ed a reprieve.
    Ed pressed the Play button on the PokePayer again, and once more the light trilling cries of a Horsea were emitted from the red circular device. However, this time there was an immediate reply. I looked around quickly, and sure enough, there was a small blue Pokemon bobbing at the water's edge, looking curiously at us. The Pokeplayer played again, and once more the Horsea raised its mouth into the air and trumpeted its high-pitched braying.
    "Looks like my disk skills have decided to grace us with its presence," I said smugly, cracking my knuckles. "There's your Horsea - go nuts."
    We began to get ourselves away from the giant white bird, attempting to escape from the worthless creature and saving myself a smooth five hundred dollars. I can buy like, a gem or a berry with that or something. I'm not going to waste it on a damn Pokedoll. But sure enough, the Pelipper continued to dive bomb us and shit on my head like a jerk-off. I held my middle finger up the entire time we walked. Chainy kept a safe distance so that he didn't get any poop on him. Apparently, Pelipper don't like being told they blow. Go figure. Sure enough, I had to buy a Pokedoll. Using the hand that wasn't giving the bird to the bird, I took out five hundred dollars, which sure enough the Pelipper crapped on just as I handed it to Chainy. Chainy reluctantly put the money in his pocket and pulled a Horsea plush doll out of his bag, throwing it far away from us to save me from drowning myself in the next body of water I saw.
    I pressed the play button on the Pokeplayer, still hoping for the Horsea Disk to work. The pitiful cries of the small seahorse-looking Pokemon emitted from the Pokeplayer. As soon as the first cry came out, another followed. This second cry sounded way clear to be coming from the Pokeplayer. Could it be?
    Chainy and I whipped our heads around, simultaneously spotting the small blue Water-type, bobbing up and down at the edge of the water. It was blowing bubbles from it's snout, and looking quite happy. The Pokeplayer let out another cry, and the Horsea hesitated, seeming to realize that the cry it was hearing was not coming from a real Horsea, but it let out a weak cry back, as if to say "damn you, humans!". I felt bad for fooling the adorable creature, but I was ecstatic at the opportunity to catch it, and possible make it a part of my team. With Horsea, I could easily collect a few more badges in various Gyms, bringing me closer to my goal of being Champion.
    "Looks like my disk skills have decided to grace us with its presence," Chainy said smugly. "There's your Horsea - go nuts."
    "Wait... are you implying that... you have something to do with the disk?" I said, baffled. "Is it as if... you have dice that you roll... to determine what happens to me. To see if I'm able to escape from a Pokemon. To see if I catch a Pokemon. To see what Pokemon I encounter. Am I not in control of my own life?" Tears began to form in my eyes as I came to the realization that I wasn't in control of my own life. My sadness turned into anger. "I BET YOU ROLLED DICE TO DETERMINE WHETHER I WOULD GET SHAT ON OR NOT, HUH!? ADMIT IT!" Suddenly, a burst of red light came from my belt, and Buzz appeared in front of me. He smacked me in my face, snapping me out of it.
    "Oh... sorry, Buzz. Uhm, do you want to battle? I know you have an advantage and all but, like, you just battled that Frillish. Do you want to battle or give Skip a chance?" I asked the large yellow Pokemon.
    "Vire." Buzz said, nodding his head.
    "If you say so, man." I responded. "Hey, remember that pirate story we heard about a Horsea that one time!?" I asked my Pokemon, excitedly.
    Vire didn't respond, he just gave me a blank stare as I began to doze off, thinking about the story.
    <"Arg me maties! Man the sails! Man the cannons! The Kraken is coming for us!" The Captain yelled out to his crew.
    The Captain stood tall next to his navigation wheel, ordering his crew around like the boss he was.
    "Captain Dude, sir! How are we going to defeat this beast?" A deckhand asked the Captain.
    "What the hell are you doing off your station, you bastard!?" Captain Dude yelled, with fury in his eyes.
    "I- I-" The deckhand's stuttering was cut off by a gun shot. He dropped to the ground, as Captain Dude's gun emitted smoke from the barrel. The Captain blew the smoke away and put the gun back in the holster.
    The crew stopped what they were doing and stared. They were in shock at what had just happened.
    "What're you queers looking at!? BACK TO YOUR STATIONS!" Captain Dude called out. The crew immediately obeyed, not wanting to end up in the same position as their fellow deckhand.
    "Captain Dude, sir." As soon as Captain Dude heard this, he put his hand on his gun, but let it go when he realized it was his first mate, Chain Reaction. "The Kraken will strike any minute now." Chain Reaction said, rather calmly.
    "Challenge accepted." Captain Dude replied.
    Suddenly, horrifying terror music began to come from nowhere. The sky began to darken, a clear sign that the Kraken was prepared to strike. Out of nowhere, it burst out of the ocean, a huge wave crashed over the boat, immediately killing several crew members. As the tsunami began to clear, the Kraken became visible. There it was, barely a foot long. Powder blue, looking like a seahorse. The crew members screamed in horror, some jumping off of the boat, just to avoid the horrifying death they were about to suffer through at the hands of the beast. Without warning, the Kraken attacked. A barrage of bubbles burst from it's snout, traveling ever so slowly, at bubble speed, towards the boat.
    "POP THE BUBBLES!!!!" Captain Dude shouted out.
    Captain Dude and Chain Reaction began to fire their weapons off, aiming for the bubbles. Several times they missed and hit deckhands who were also trying to pop the bubbles with their swords.
    Most of the bubbles had been popped. The Kraken returned back to the water, swimming deep to the bottom of the ocean.
    The crew began to finally relax, when suddenly, Captain Dude spotted a lone bubble, slowly drifting towards the hull of the ship.
    "No..." the Captain muttered.
    A giant explosion happened as the bubble popped against the wooden ship, killing everyone on the boat.
    And they all lived happily ever after.>
    "Shit man, these things are dangerous! Be careful, Buzz!" I said after reminiscing on the story that my friend had told me.
    Buzz just shook his head at me, seeming to be disappointed.
    "Anyway, how should we start this off? Let's not let this thing drag out like the battle with Frillish. You have superior strength and typing, so take advantage of that and start strong! Buzz, use Shock Wave, then follow it up with a Thunderbolt while it's stunned!" I called out.
    The strategy seemed pretty good to me. The easy to execute and impossible to miss Shock Wave would come first, hitting the Horsea lightly and stunning just enough for Buzz to prepare a nice strong Thunderbolt, and unleashing it's fury all over the wild Water-type.
    I imagined what would happen if it all went according to plan...
    <Vire didn't bother showing me he understood the commands. His two tails quickly shot up in the air, and in a flash, let off a blue jolt of electricity that electrocuted the Horsea, doing a bit of damage, but more importantly stunning it. Buzz took advantage of this opportunity to power up a super strong Thunderbolt. He clenched his fists, trying to gather as much electricity as he could to make this attack not only stronger, but give it the extra chance of paralyzing. The attack built up inside him, sparks beginning to emit from the battery pack on his back and travel up his tails. He kept charging it until a constant cycle of electricity was running through the whole set up located on his back. Then, while letting out a battle cry, all the electricity shot straight up his tails, firing off a jagged beam of electricity directly at the stunned Water-type, hitting it dead on and pulsing electricity through it's water-filled body, instantly paralyzing it.>
    "Wait... are you implying that... you have something to do with the disk?" Ed asked slowly. "It is as if you have dice that you roll to determine what happens to me. To see if I'm able to escape from a Pokemon. To see if I catch a Pokemon. To see what Pokemon I encounter. Am I not in control of my own life?" He lowered his head and his fists began to shake. "I BET YOU ROLLED DICE TO DETERMINE WHETHER I WOULD GET SHAT ON OR NOT, HUH!? ADMIT IT!"
    I stared incredulously at the young man. Thankfully, Buzz released himself from the PokeBall and slapped his Trainer before I could do so myself.
    "That sounds like an incredibly stupid idea to me, Ed," I said to him reproachfully. "All I meant was that voice disks tend to work around me. In fact, I can only remember a couple of times where they have failed. You need to chill, dude."
    He ignored me and instead turned to Buzz. "Um, do you want to battle? I know you have an advantage and all but, like, you just battled that Frillish. Do you want to battle or give Skip a chance?"
    Buzz nodded and muttered something to the large yellow Pokemon. He seemed to gaze off into nothingness for a few second before returning his attention to the real world.
    "Anyway, how should we start this off? Let's not let this thing drag out like the battle with Frillish. You have superior strength and typing, so take advantage of that and start strong! Buzz, use Shock Wave, then follow it up with a Thunderbolt while it's stunned!" Ed ordered.
    The Horsea perked up in the water and began swimming around in a figure eight, obviously preparing for the battle to come. Buzz raised his twin-pronged tail high into the air, and a sudden blast of electricity emanated form them both. It reminded me a little bit of an explosion - the sparks made up a wall of electrical energy which expanded towards the lake. The electricity struck the Horsea, knocking it backwards and startling it a little bit. The second strike wasn't far behind - sparks began emitting from the Electric-type's back and crawling all over him. Finally, he moved forwards and down in a jerking motion and a huge jagged lightning bolt shot straight towards the Horsea. It made direct contact, causing the Water-type to keen out in pain. Some of the water nearby was snap-evaporated, and the water sloshed around, causing us to lose sight of the Horsea.
    "Be careful of using really strong electrical attacks like that," I cautioned Ed. "You don't want to harm any of the other Pokemon around here."
    It took about a minute for the waves to settle, but when they did, the Horsea was nowhere to be seen. It must be hiding underwater, which was a good strategy considering I had just forbidden Ed from using large-scale lightning attacks. I was scratching my head, wondering if the Water-type had escaped, when a few light-blue bubbles drifted up from under the water. More emerged, slowly floating towards Buzz, creating a small minefield. The bubbles all spread out across the water and the edge of the bank. I remembered the last time Bubblebeam had been used like a minefield - they caused detonations that were stronger than I thought possible. If the Horsea was using that technique, Buzz wouldn't be able to get close without taking a fair bit of damage.
    ____________
    Immediately after ordering Buzz to attack, Horsea began to swim around in the water doing figure eights, and gaining speed every single second. Horsea had used Agility to try and gain an edge against the Electric-type. Buzz raised his two prongs high in the air, and a quick jolt of electricity shot from them, creating almost a wall that could not possibly miss. Horsea's figure eights were cut short by the Electric-type attack, and Horsea was stunned but not too severely damaged. Then, Buzz decided to give it the big hit. He clenched his fists, trying to gather as much electricity as he could to make this attack not only stronger. The attack built up inside him, sparks beginning to emit from the battery pack on his back and travel up his tails. He kept charging it until a constant cycle of electricity was running through the whole set up located on his back. Then, while letting out a battle cry, all the electricity shot straight up his tails, firing off a jagged beam of electricity directly at the stunned Water-type, hitting it dead on and causing a huge splash to happen, sloshing the water around, throwing Horsea around, and sending electricity pulsing through the water. The attack worked perfectly, doing all but scoring a paralysis. However, Buzz and I had lost sight of Horsea for a second, and one second is all it takes to completely turn the tides of a battle.
    "Be careful of using really strong electrical attacks like that," My Ranger warned me. "You don't want to harm any of the other Pokemon around here."
    The last thing I wanted was to get kicked out of the Park before even getting to use all of my disks, so I had no choice but to obey the Elite Ranger's demands. Although I wasn't sure if I wanted to hit Horsea too hard for the rest of the battle, seeing as how I need to avoid knocking it out.
    The waves settled, and Horsea was nowhere to be seen. I began to have flashbacks of the story that my friend told me, about the Kraken Horsea appearing out of nowhere and destroying the ship. I became paranoid and nervous, scanning the water like a crackhead. I realized Horsea was hiding under water somewhere, which completely screwed me over since Chainy just said I couldn't use anymore strong Electric-moves. So basically, Horsea was invincible under water now on. Suddenly, bubbles began to emerge from the body of water, first one, then two, then three, until the entire battle area was covered with them. I knew from the Kraken story that bubbles were explosive, so Horsea had essentially managed to create a minefield between itself and Buzz. I admired the incredible intelligence this Pokemon had. It would do great on my team.
    The best way to burst these bubbles would be to send an electrical attack through the heart of them. Something like Discharge would work perfectly, as it covers a large area. Unfortunately, I had been forbidden to use any Electric-type moves, so I had to come up with something else. I contemplated Flamethrower for a little bit, but the moisture in the bubbles would kill the fire before it got to take out too many. Buzz couldn't take these bubbles head on either, they would explode on him and he would take massive damage. I need a projectile attack that isn't Electric-type but can still stand up to the bubbles. My choices were Psychic and Signal Beam. Psychic was the stronger of the two, but I wasn't confident in it's ability to tear through the mine field too well. Although, one explosion is all it would take to set off the rest. Then there was Signal Beam. Signal Beam is pretty weak, but it was the kind of projectile attack I need. But still, I'm not confident it could even burst a bubble. I guess my top option would be Psychic. If I could get Buzz to focus the blast on a cluster of bubbles, hopefully the explosion from those bubbles would cause a ripple effect that would implode all of the other bubbles too, clearing the minefield Horsea had created.
    "Buzz, use Psychic! Concentrate the blast on a small cluster of bubble towards the center!" I called out.
    <"You got it, boss."> I heard a deep and dopey voice in my head say.
    "What the..." I was baffled and startled at hearing the voice. It reminded me of the time that Chainy's Staraptor, Broadblade, had spoken to me on our last expedition. Did Buzz just talk to me... telepathically?
    <"One Psychic coming right up."> I heard the same voice say again.
    Psychic, that's it! I had never used Psychic in a battle with Buzz before. I guess that since he's using for the first time, he's tapping into Psychic powers he never tapped into before, and those Psychic powers include being able to communicate telepathically with me. I wonder if it worked for other humans too...
    Buzz began to concentrate really hard, staring intently at the center of the minefield, his hand on his head and his eyes glowing pink. I could see the space matter in the center of the bubbles appear to tighten, and shortly after, there was a small explosion of energy in the same spot.
    Ed stared in frustration out over the water. I was glad that he was taking my warning to heart - at least, that's what he seemed to be doing. It was all too easy for Trainers to forget about other Pokemon when they were battling. Once, a Trainer had fired off a Thunder attack from a Gyarados right in the middle of the largest lake. He'd earned a bit of chastisement.
    "Buzz, use Psychic! Concentrate the blast on a small cluster of bubble towards the center!" Ed finally commanded. A couple of seconds later he seemed confused, and I was going to ask why but that was when the Electivire started its attack.
    Some of the bubbles started moving inwards, towards the center. I could see some space distortion in the center, and I knew what Electivire was doing. It was using the telekinetic powers of Psychic to draw all the bubbles in on themselves. It was a clever move.
    Slowly but surely the bubbles all moved closer to each other. Finally, one of the bubbles touched another, and they exploded. This explosion set off a chain reaction which detonated all of the other bubbles one by one. I had to cover my ears and look away to save being struck dumb and blinded.
    When the bubbles had all been cleared, the Horsea surfaced. It looked a bit miffed - clearly it was unhappy that Buzz had managed to remove its minefield so easily. The little blue Pokemon took a deep breath and spat a blue orb towards Buzz. The Electivire wasn't expecting such a direct attack, so the ball caught him right on the face. Surprisingly, the ball wasn't entirely water - there was some ink inside, which Buzz accidentally smeared all over himself when he tried to wipe it off. The Horsea sure was a sneaky one.
    The Psychic attack distorted the space matter in the center of the minefield until one bubble tapped into another one, causing an explosion that in hand, caused the other bubbles to explode, until the entire battlefield had been cleared of any explosive bubbles.
    Immediately after the explosions cleared the Horsea popped out of the water and launched a blue orb right into my unsuspecting Electivire's face. As a natural reaction, Buzz wiped at his face. In doing so, he smeared ink in his eyes that had been concealed inside of the orb Horsea launched. That sneaky little bastard...
    I was getting sick of these damn tricks from this Horsea. The water was giving it too much of an advantage for my liking. Maybe an Earthquake attack would slosh some water out, or make a little tsunami, or make a crack in the ground that will drain out all the water.
    "Buzz, use Earthquake! Don't worry about hitting Horsea just make it a big one!" I called out.
    Buzz stopped wiping his eyes and focused on the attack. He was squinting, barely able to keep the ink out of his eyes. His accuracy was clearly effected by the ink, I was just glad Earthquake was relatively easy to aim, as it covered a large area.
    I imagined the attack working perfectly.
    <Buzz raised his hands high in the air, his fists linked to together as he flexed his muscles and let out a battle cry, using all his weight and strength to slam his hands down on the ground and create a fissure in the earth that traveled to the water and hit Horsea directly. The shock wave from the attack created a small tidal wave, splashing all over the place and hitting Buzz, washing the ink off of his face. The fissure in the water created a drain that caused a few feet of water to drain out. This, along with the tidal wave, left the body of water only a couple feet deep, not giving Horsea anywhere to hide.>
    "Buzz, use Earthquake! Don't worry about hitting Horsea - just make it a big one!" Ed yelled. He was starting to get a little cross judging by the tone of his voice. No doubt he wasn't expecting the Horsea to be so evasive and difficult.
    The Electivire raised his fists and brought them crashing into the ground. The result was a fissure that went running into the lake in Horsea's general direction. The ground shook, meaning that the Horsea lost control, and the water began swirling into the crack. The Water-type was sucked towards the shore, but it decided to go down fighting. With a kick of its tail the small Pokemon launched itself out of the water towards Electivire. Blue flames completely surrounded the small seahorse Pokemon and it slammed into Buzz's face. Buzz recoiled and groaned before slapping the Horsea away. The Water-type landed on the ground, and it started flopping around helplessly. At least the black gunk had been removed from Buzz's face.
    Suddenly, the blue flames around the Horsea formed a small tornado, lifting it into the air. Instead of attacking, however, the Horsea's body turned around and the tornado began inching back towards the lake. I realised that the Horsea was manipulating them to carry it back into the water, where it would be safe. I'd never seen anything like it before.
    "The Horsea is going to escape!" I said quickly to Ed. "If you want to hit it with a hardcore electrical attack, it's out of the water, so now is the time!"
    Buzz raised his hands high in the air, his fists linked to together as he flexed his muscles and let out a battle cry, using all his weight and strength to slam his hands down on the ground and create a fissure in the earth that went running to the lake. The fissure began to act as a drain, as the water drained into it and Horsea lost control of it's swimming from the force of the attack. Horsea was being dragged to the shore, but in a last ditch effort, it launched itself into the air with a kick of it's tail, with flames gyrating all around it's body. Catching Buzz off guard, Horsea hit him right in his face, continuing to thrash about on the giant yellow Pokemon's face until Buzz slapped him off.
    Horsea landed on dry land, causing Buzz and I to smile at the sight of the sitting duck. But then those same blue and green flames came back, and began to inch Horsea back into the water, where it would be safe.
    "The Horsea is going to escape!" Chainy quickly shouted out. "If you want to hit it with a hardcore electrical attack, it's out of the water, so now is the time!"
    I didn't think or respond, I didn't have time to. I just reacted to the ranger's words.
    "THUNDER!" I shouted out, as loud as I could.
    Buzz understood the urgency and immediately powered up the attack. I could feel the static forming in the air. Buzz's tentacle tails slowly rose up, as if they were being attracted to the clouds in the sky and collecting energy from them. The hair on my arms began to stand up straight, just like Buzz's tails, in reaction to the static. Then suddenly, the static disappeared, and Buzz's tentacles began to pulse with electrical energy. With a mighty battle cry, he fired the attack. A massive jagged column of electric traveled straight up in the air, before it curved down like a steep drop on a roller coaster, heading straight towards the land-bound Water-type.
    "THUNDER!" Ed roared the very second I finished talking. I jumped back a little bit - I hadn't expected such an... enthusiastic response. I also questioned the wisdom of his choice - Thunder was quite inaccurate, and that was forgetting the ink that had been splashed all over Buzz's face not five minutes ago.
    Buzz's black tails rose slowly into the air, gathering a huge amount of electrical energy from his yellow fur as they did so. The Electivire roared and a huge jagged arrow made up of the yellow electricity shot up into the air. The attack moved like the shot from a mortar, reaching the zenith of its arc and then plunging back down to earth. The Horsea looked up and saw the electricity blast, and I saw a look of hopeless determination enter its eyes. The Water-type kicked its tail backwards, and all of the blue fire surrounding it detached from its body and flew backwards towards Buzz.
    Both attacks hit their targets at the same time. The Thunder smashed into the Horsea and pushed it down into the ground, eliciting a high-pitched cry of pain. The electric sparks crawled over its body before dissipating into the ground. On the other side of the battlefield, the blue conflagration crashed into Buzz's chest and knocked him onto his rear end. He patted at the flames to put them out before they could burn all of his fur off.
    I looked over at the horsea, which was now flopping around helplessly on the ground. It was nearly out of energy and couldn't sustain another large attack like that. In layman's terms, it was ripe for the picking.
    The Thunder attack hit Horsea at the same time that the second part of the Outrage attack hit Buzz. Outrage was a two to three turn attack which sent the user into confusion after being executed. Horsea wasn't confused yet, so I would just need Buzz to tank one more hit, deliver his own, and Horsea will be cake to catch.
    "Buzz, use Quick Attack to get in close, then trap it in your tails and use Discharge!" I called out to the giant yellow Pokemon.
    Buzz instantly launched itself forward to the land-bound Water-type, a white trail of light being left behind him as he wanted to make sure he got to the Pokemon before it could escape into the water. I imagined the rest of the attack working as planned.
    <Buzz closed the space between the two Pokemon instantly, he wasted no time extending his tentacle-like tails and wrapping them around the tiny Water-type. Electricity pulsed through it's body, through its tail, and into the defenseless Pokemon's body. You couldn't differentiate the Discharge from any other electrical attack, as the electricity simply traveled directly to the Water-type, severely damaging it. Buzz let it's grip go, and Horsea laid on the ground, motionless. Seeing the perfect opportunity to capture it, I pulled a standard Park Ball out of my bag and wound up as the ball grew to the size of a softball, tossing it baseball pitcher-style at the seahorse-looking Pokemon.>
    Apparently Ed didn't think the Horsea was weakened enough, because he commanded a Quick Attack and discharge combo. My mouth dropped in disbelief as Buzz jumped forward and grasped the Horsea roughly in his two black tails. Electricity started streaming down into the Water-type, but it was impeded by the blue fire of Outrage. However, the flames were dying down and it wasn't more than a few seconds before the Dragon Pokemon was being electrocuted mercilessly. It squeaked and cried out in pain, and I couldn't keep quiet.
    "Buzz, drop that Horsea!" I yelled, reaching for my belt in case I needed backup.
    Surprisingly the Electivire did as I said. Perhaps it was the authority in my voice, or maybe the Electric-type was just responding instinctively to a shout. Whatever the reason, he released the Horsea, and it fell limply onto the ground. It was charred all over and slight wisps of steam were rising into the air. The Pokemon's tiny chest was barely rising and falling.
    "You need to attempt the capture right now," I said firmly to Ed. "That Pokemon needs some serious healing, and I can't provide that in the field. Thankfully, the stasis field generators inside a ball should prevent the Horsea from dying."
    Ed nodded and pulled a Park Ball out of his pack. He threw it towards the Horsea, and it tapped the Water-type on its tail. The Horsea squeaked as it was drawn inside. Unsurprisingly, the ball dinged right away. I went over, picked it up, and summoned my Gallade out of his ball through our mental link.
    "I need you to keep an eye on the Horsea in this ball," I said to him. "Use Heal Pulse to keep it stable if necessary."
    Dual nodded and took the ball. A pink energy field surrounded his hands, and I knew the Horsea would be fine. I turned to Ed and nodded, signaling that I was ready to move on whenever he was.
    Chainy beat me to the command, and Buzz surprisingly listened. The Horsea dropped to the ground, motionless, on the edge of consciousness.
    "You need to attempt the capture right now," Chainy said, sternly. "That Pokemon needs some serious healing, and I can't provide that in the field. Thankfully, the stasis field generators inside a ball should prevent the Horsea from dying."
    I was way ahead of the ranger, I pulled a standard Park Ball out of my bag and wound up as the ball grew to the size of a softball, tossing it baseball pitcher-style at the seahorse-looking Pokemon. It connected and absorbed the Pokemon in the ball. The ball didn't even wobble, showing that the Horsea didn't have enough energy to struggle. Thankfully, it was safe now in the Pokeball. Just to be safe though, Chainy released his Gallade from it's Pokeball and had it use Heal Pulse on the Horsea while it was in it's ball.
    I fed an Energy Powder to Buzz before returning the Electric-type to it's Pokeball. Then I inserted the Staryu Disk into the Voice Player and pressed play.
    I scratched the back of my head and looked around, not wanting to make eye contact with the Elite Ranger after that embarrassing display of battling. "Your lead." I said quietly, looking down at the ground.
    Ed seemed a bit ashamed as he fed an Energy Powder to Buzz and then returned the large yellow Pokemon to its Pokemon. He inserted a different disk into his Pokeplayer - a Staryu one, judging by the trilling noise the red device emitted. "Your lead," he said quietly, refusing to make eye contact.
    I sighed. "Don't be such a wuss, everyone makes mistakes. Live and learn," I said to my Trainer, bumping him with my shoulder. "Come on, let's get out of here."
    We walked along the bank in silence, listening to the repeated calls of the Staryu disk. It was quite a nice day out, not too hot but enjoyably warm. The cool air rising off of the lake made sure that I didn't perspire, and the sound of the water was soothing. The noise was soon interrupted by a sharp squawk. I grunted irritably and looked upwards and sure enough, a Wingull was circling above us, screeching its greetings.
    "Feel like battling that?" I asked Ed.
    Chainy noticed the way I was acting and sighed. "Don't be such a wuss, everyone makes mistakes. Live and learn," He said, bumping me as he walked pass me. "Come on, let's get out of here."
    I followed suit, feeling a little bit better about the situation. I was enjoying the scenery when a bird caw broke my train of thought, followed my that familiar voice.
    "Feel like battling that?" Chainy asked me, looking up.
    I followed his eyes and noticed a Wingull gliding around above us. A chill shot up my spine as I recalled Wingull's evolution, Pelipper repeatedly shitting on me. Maybe the Pelipper told it's son to mess with me for shiggles.
    "Run for our lives! And if it follows, throw a doll!" I said as I began to sprint as fast as I could away from the Flying-type, making a conscience decision to leave the Pokeplayer playing the Staryu Disk.
    OOC: Subtract away.
    ~~~~~

    "Run for our lives! And if it follows, throw a doll!" Ed yelled before tearing off. I figured he was suffering some kind of post-traumatic flashback from being crapped on repeatedly by the Pelipper earlier. I decided that it was safer to just throw a PokeDoll now - it was better than having a temporarily insane Trainer running around the lakes.

    I finally caught up with Ed once he had slowed down. I placed both on my hands on my knees and panted heavily while we both looked around. The lake was starting to thin out, and I knew soon we'd find the river that fed the large water source. Rivers here in the National Park usually contained smaller Pokemon than in the lakes, although smaller didn't necessary mean weaker. I was actually consciously guiding Ed there - it was where the Staryu usually hung out.

    But we weren't there yet. We were still a couple hundred kilometres out from the beginnings of the river system. There was a small cluster of rocks just out into the water, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a Pokemon hiding behind them, watching us curiously. It was a second Frillish. I moved closer to Ed, and told him about the Pokemon quietly, so as to not tip it off in case the Trainer wanted to capture it. Usually Trainers didn't catch doubles in the Park, but Frillish was rare trade bait, and hot on the professional circuits right now.

    I kept running as Chainy through a doll up to the seagull-looking Pokemon. I looked back and saw the Wingull catch the doll at it's apex and soar off into the horizon. Chainy and I took a minute to catch our breath after that sprint from the scary creature. I noticed Chainy looking at a cluster of rocks on the edge of the water with a curious look in his eyes. I followed his eyes and noticed a Frillish peaking out behind a cluster of rocks. Chainy noticed me notice it, and look at me with that oh-so familiar look in his eye.

    I thought about it for a minute, but the fact that I already had one and wanted to get out of here soon led me to the decision of passing up on it.

    I shook my head and said, "Nah, let's bail out and hope it doesn't follow us. Toss a doll if it does."

    Then I continued to play my Staryu Disk.

    "Nah, let's bail out and hope it doesn't follow us. Toss a doll if it does," Ed replied, shaking his head.

    "I don't think that's necessary," I replied. "Most Frillish are retiring by nature, and I'd be very surprised if this one tried to follow us."

    Sure enough, we walked onwards towards the rapids, and the Frillish just watched us leave. I didn't think it would do anything, but it was always vilifying when my suspicions were correct.

    It wasn't much more than a five minute walk until the lake thinned out into a true river. The water was also much rougher here as it had to move over rocks and around fallen logs. Believe it or not, this was where the Staryu chose to hang out here in the Great Lakes. Hopefully Ed's Voice Disk would attract one of the rare Water-types.

    Unfortunately for Ed, I heard the flapping of wings and knew that he wouldn't be seeing a Staryu; at least not yet. I turned around and saw a light blue bird staring curiously at us. It was one of the rarer Pokemon here in the Park, a Ducklett. I wondered if Ed wanted to catch this one. Sure, it was rare, but it also wasn't particularly powerful, and I knew Ed was here to catch team-mates, not collect Pokemon. Still, I pointed at it then rolled my shoulders, asking him silently if he was interested in it.

    "I don't think that's necessary," Chainy responded. "Most Frillish are retiring by nature, and I'd be very surprised if this one tried to follow us."

    Once again, Chainy was right. It was almost as if he knew what was going to happen before it actually happened... it's crazy. We continued making our way down the coast of the lake as it narrowed into a river. The water was much rougher now, and I made a mental note that I would probably need Swampert's strong swimming abilities if I were to battle around here. My hopes were high, as I had heard Staryu like to hang around in fast-moving rivers.

    At that moment, Chainy and I heard the flapping of wings, and I immediately bowed my head down, disappointed. I turned around to see a Ducklett. Chainy looked at me, silently asking if I wanted to battle it, and I simply shook my head.

    "The usual." I said as I reached into my pocket in case I had to buy a Pokedoll. With the other hand, I pressed play on the Staryu Disk once again.
