    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy was filing away some papers on a run she finished a few days ago when she heard the family ping of an instant message coming from her computer. She walked back to the desk and leaned over her rolling chair to reach the mouse, waking the computer up so she could see who it was. Buzz, a fellow Ranger, popped up with a message.

“Hey Ivy,” it read. “I wanted to go on a quick trip through the Lakes this afternoon. It's a bit of a speed run. I'm looking for a few specific 'mons. Want to go with?”

Typical Buzz, she thought, shaking her head. It would figure that he would ask her before going to fill out the paperwork and waiting for claiming like the other Trainers coming to the Park. As it was, she didn't have anything to do, and a quick speed through the Great Lakes wouldn't be so bad. She shot back a reply, saying she'd meet him at Outpost Two in a little bit.

She collected her gear and checked the weather before heading out, closing the door behind her as she headed for the Main Outpost entrance. It was supposed to be a nice day, which was fortunate. She hadn't been to the Lakes since her Ranger test, and it would be nice getting a change of scenery. It seemed the mountains were the only place she was going lately, probably due the many rare and powerful Pokémon recently discovered there.

She passed the main work area, a place where a lot of desks were shoved in case the Rangers wanted to work some place other than the stuffy offices. A light snore drew her eyes towards the corner, and she found Chainy, another ranger, curled up on his desk. Not wanting to waste a great opportunity, she approached quietly. She didn't need to however, as he was out like a light, his brown hair moving up and down with the rest of him as he slept.

She smirked a little, and then drew her leg back. She kicked the thin metal, and it made a loud boom as her foot connected with it. “Hey!” she called as she leaned close, and Chainy snapped his head up, body jolting upwards as he looked around puzzled.

She watched the real world come back into his eyes, and then she saw him notice her. His confused expression morphed into a small frown as his eyebrows clenched together. He rubbed at his eyes with one hand while he waved her back with the other, like he was shooing a fly. “Ugh, what was that for?”

Ivy laughed a little. He was a bit moody whenever he woke up, as Buzz had found out once. This was especially true when he was having a good dream. “You'll never win Madison by sleeping on the job. Good dreams?” she teased.

Immediately, he turned a bright red, and he stuttered a bit, not wanting to answer. She grinned, ruffling his hair before quickly stepping back. She turned to go, only turning back briefly to call out, “Don't work too hard.” Then she exited the Main Outpost and stepped into the sun.

She found Haji perched on the bench next to the building, and to her surprise, Dual, Chainy's Gallade, was joining him, leaning against the wall with his arms folded. She always wondered what they talked about.

“Wouldn't you like to know?” the Gallade jibed, and Ivy just laughed. “Thank you for waking him up. His dreams were getting a little...interesting.”

“Oh? What about?” she asked. She knew their bond was strong, and she wondered if Chainy's dreams were just projecting that well or if Dual looked in on them for fun.

“Er...” he replied, and then stood up straight, gathering energy to himself. “Have fun at the Lakes,” he added, and then he was gone in a shimmering energy, teleporting away.

“Well that was weird,” she said to Haji, her Espeon. The purple cat-like Pokémon jumped off the bench to come rub against her leg, his form of greeting. He was silent, but that was okay. She could feel his presence just fine in her mind, so she knew he was okay. “Ready to head to the Lakes? Buzz and River will probably be there shortly.” Since Dual already knew, she was pretty sure both Psychic types had already read her mind.

The cat nodded, and with another gathering of energy, the air started to shimmer around them too, and when Ivy could see clearly again, they were at the Lakes Outpost. Pools of water surrounded by white sand awaited them, and both the human and her Pokémon took a seat on the bench outside the Outpost to wait for Buzz.

Buzz stood in the Pokémon storage area of his gym, the Mauville City Gym. The computer on the right read out Rental Pokémon. He looked at the three Poké Balls resting on the tray beneath it. Well the Rotom is going to be tricky to get, and the ex gym leader contacted me saying he would give me his recently caught Galvantula so that takes care of two. Now just for the Eelektross. With a cursory glance at his watch, he realised that Ivy would still be on shift. Dashing off to his office he hopped onto his gym computer.

Hey Ivy, I wanted to go on a quick trip through the Lakes this afternoon. It's a bit of a speed run. I'm looking for a few specific 'mons. Want to go with?

It was a bit cheeky not to go through the regular channels to organise a Park run, but he knew and trusted Ivy. It was bound to be a good trip. Right on cue, a pink flash behind him told him that River Tam; his often sarcastic but trusted ally had appeared. Awesome, you ready to go the lakes, I just need to swing by the office to collect my supplies. Oh and I have to pick up Thundera and Jolteon.

    "No Electro today?"

Nah, he is a bit too powerful for the lakes, not that Thundera and Jolteon aren't. Just that they have access to more troublesome moves rather than all out power. I be surfin' on mah Raichu bitches. After quickly collecting the other two Poké Balls from the rack and slotting them on his waist, River teleported herself and Buzz to the National Park.

It was an Island quite far of the coast of the original regions. For most people it would usually require the use of the regular Ferry, but River had discovered a stop off point, a small outlay of rocks which she could teleport too to make the journey easier. Buzz smiled as the sea wind rustled his hair. Waves crashed against the small rocks he stood upon. He could just make out the two mountains of the National Park on the horizon, but they vanished in a pink flash.

Buzz was now stood in his office, he was collecting his usual trainer supplies, Park Balls, Poké Dolls. When he noticed a small sack in the bottom of his cupboard. He remembered he had found it at christmas time when all the rangers and trainers had mysterious summons to help someone out. Not only that the Pokémon at the Park had been acting very oddly. Inside was an assortment of useful items so he quickly poured the contents into his travel pack.

A small leaflet fell out and floated to the floor, Buzz smiled realising what it was. Sweet, not only will I have the chance to capture the Pokémon I want, but I don't even have to pay for it. Buzz quickly logged onto his ranger email, happy to notice that Ivy was up for the run.

Buzz was in half a mind to wander to her desk and wander with her but he figured she had already left. "River, whenever you're ready lets get up to the Lakes," Buzz said waiting by the green bird who was now perched on the desk. She gave no sarcastic remark for once and in her signature pink flash of light, the pair were once again sent hurtling through the very fabric of space.

Buzz blinked and he was stood in front of outpost two. He had yet to do an official run round the park, he had one trainer signed up but there had been no response in months. Ivy was sat on a bench just by the entrance, a pink feline trailed around her legs. That was Haji, her newly acquired psychic partner. Buzz always figured she had been jealous of the connection shared between himself and River. Chainy and Dual shared a similar bond but Dual was more of a quiet type only chiming out quick thoughts and comments. Buzz hadn't had the chance to talk with Haji so he didn't know quite was his personality was.

"Hey, Ivy. Thanks for this, I guess this means I owe you," Buzz said wandering over to his Ranger. Buzz pulled out the Poké Player from his bag and slotted in one of his Tynamo voice disks. "Might as well get this show on the road." Buzz pushed the play button and a curious cry of the levitating electric type played out.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Haji stirred beside her, and then she felt the shifting energy as Buzz and River came into view across the Outpost's yard. The cat-like Pokémon got up and waited for her to rise before following her to meet with the other Ranger.

Buzz called out as he wandered over. “Hey, Ivy. Thanks for this. I guess this means I owe you.”

Ivy just laughed. “If you say so. I'm going to hold you to it. With any luck we'll find what you're looking for.”

He nodded. “Might as well get this show on the road.” Buzz pulled out a Poképlayer from the bag he always carried, inserting a disk and not hesitating to press play. A cry she recognized as a Tynamo rang out, and she let the sound carry away from them before nodding herself and heading into the park.

Ivy knew Buzz was Mauville City's Gym Leader in his spare time, so the Tynamo he was looking for must be for his roster. She didn't have a lot of experience with battling, but she could acknowledge that it was fun and she understood how some people got so into it. She really hoped they came across what he needed, if not because he was technically a Trainer on a run, then because he was a friend.

The Lakes were dotted with hundreds of pools of water of varying sizes edged by soft white and gold sand and decorated by frail, stringy vegetation here and there. At least, that's what this part looked like. She knew there were other water environments, like ponds surrounded by thick trees and even one swamp-like area, and there were even some salt water pools. The path weaved through two wide pools that glowed bright blue under the sun.

A splashing noise caught her attention behind them, and she turned her head from looking at the left side pond to the right. A long blue nose stuck out of the water, paired with calculating eyes on a head with spiky fins. It floated carefully in the water, watching them closely. It rose a bit, revealing a scaly cream-colored underbelly and a sea horse-like body.

“Hey, Buzz, want a Seadra?” she asked. She knew many Trainers sought after this Pokémon for its evolution, Kingdra. The question was if Buzz was interested too.

Buzz heard a splashing noise and turn around hoping that his Voice Disk had attracted the small eel like electric type, unfortunately what was swimming in front of him was a sea-horse. A deep blue spiked body floating at the top of the water. Buzz knew it was a Seadra, the unevolved form of the very popular Kingdra.

“Hey, Buzz, want a Seadra?” Ivy asked. Buzz contemplated it and thought he could probably get a good deal, but he preferred to capture things in their base evolutionary form. He liked to know that he had trained it from the very start. Maximising the bond and effectiveness of the partnership between trainer and Pokémon.

"No thanks, but I will log it in my Pokédex." It was a new hobby of Buzz's if he encountered a wild Pokémon in the park he would mark its information down in his log as seen. He secretely wanted to have seen every Pokémon the world had to offer. So after briefly pulling out a small electronic device and aiming it at the water type, he pressed play on the Poké Player once more hoping that a Tynamo would be nearby. "Let's try and leave, but if it doesn't want us to go I will just throw this." Buzz pulled out a Pokédoll from his bag.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Buzz decided to pass on the Seadra, but Ivy saw that he had started recording sightings of different Pokémon in a Pokédex. He wasted no time in taking out the device and storing the information. She always thought that was a cool challenge. It made sense really for them; being a Ranger let them interact with a ton of Pokémon. They even saw rarer Legendaries that used the Park as a safe haven.

“Let's try and leave, but if it doesn't want us to go I'll just throw this,” Buzz said, pulling out a Pokédoll of his own. Since he was a Ranger, he had his own stock. That was fine, since he had to pay for them anyway.

She nodded, and they started to edge along between the two pools of water. She kept her eye on the Seadra, and the Ranger thought they were in the clear until the Water type began to edge along with them, sinking lower into the pool until just its upper head stuck out, its cannon-like nose pointed at them. Ivy knew the creatures were capable of shooting powerful jets of water, as well as inky smokescreens that stuck to everything. She didn't want to fall victim to those if she could help it.

She tried to look non-threatening as they passed, but the more distance they put between them and the pools, the more the Seadra started to make a growling-like noise.

“Looks like it's not cooperating. Better use a doll to be safe.”

Ivy watched Buzz throw a doll in its general direction and sighed with relief as it took more interest in the doll than them. It made a new sound then, a happy screeching sound that had her flinching a little. It was a little like an old lady's laugh, one with a scratchy throat. They edged forward more, and they managed to put enough distance between them that the noise died down a bit.

The left pool ended, veering off, but the path continued around the right side, and they followed the tracks in the soft sand until a rippling in the water stopped her. An orange and white form peeked out of the water, its pointed horn flashing as the sun reflected off the smooth surface. “Goldeen, goldeen,” it said.

“Well, there's another one. It's not a Tynamo, but...” she trailed off, shrugging. “Wanna give it a go?”

Buzz quickly threw the Pokédoll at the persistant Seadra, and watched as it swam off to gather it. Buzz always wondered what about Pokédolls were that interesting to Pokémon, but he wasn't that bothered since it saved a lot of hassle.

An orange and white form of a fish appeared in front of us, Goldeen. The unevolved form of Seaking, a Pokémon that Buzz had received as a gift in the previous year. Buzz didn't actually own a Goldeen, but they were in abundance back on the mainland. He quickly recorded the sight in his Poké Dex and asked to move on. He prepared another Pokédoll just in case. Once more he pulled the PokéPlayer that was on a string around his neck to his front and pressed the play button. "Come on, Tynamo."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy watched Buzz record the Goldeen's information, but he wasn't interested in capturing it. That was okay; there was still plenty more to see and they had some time. Buzz's Poképlayer rang out again, trying to call a Tynamo to them. She waited a few moments before moving on, drifting toward one of the freshwater lakes.

Before they could get far though, the Goldeen started to act up, splashing violently in the water and making charging motions towards shore.

Ivy shook her head. “Geez, what's with Pokémon in the Park today?”

Buzz shrugged as he sighed, throwing another doll out and effectively distracting the orange and white fish.

There was more brush as they finally moved on, scraggly shrubs that turned into long willowy weeds, and eventually those gave into thin trees with trunks no bigger than her wrist. The sand started to harden and turn into solid ground, and then more sturdy trees began to appear. They came upon the next pool, and the trees thickened around the area, making a barrier of sorts. Ivy weaved through them, brushing back the occasional branch and listening to see if any of them hit Buzz in the face.

A plunking sound came across her ears then, followed by a gleeful giggle. She wasn't getting anything negative through Haji, so it probably wasn't harmful. She slowed down as she neared the edge of the tree line, carefully prying back a branch to look.

A floating blue-topped Pokémon was chucking stones into the lake, skipping them across the water and creating small ripples. It had a cream colored body with a shiny red stone in the middle of its head, as well as two long tails with similar blue padding and red stones. “Whoa, check that out,” she murmured, recognizing it as Azelf, one of the legendary lake trio.

It picked up another rock and threw it flat like a frisbee, and she watched it skip five times before sinking, just lightly touching the water. The Azelf laughed again as it enjoyed a simple thing.

“Hey, Buzz, wanna take a picture?” she asked. There were a couple of collectors back at the Main Outpost that would pay a decent price for pictures of rare Pokémon, and if not that, it'd be the start of a nice collection.

Buzz sighed as he threw another Poké doll causing the Goldeen to swim merrily after it. They continued walking through the bushes, Buzz noticed Ivy was carefully timing the release of branches so they might hit him in the face. "Ivy, if you wanted to whip me; all you have to do is ask," Buzz said with a roar of laughter.

Buzz caught up with Ivy as she was peering at a small creature who was skimming pebbles into the lake. It was the legendary Azelf, a psychic type and part of a trio of Pokémon. It wasn't that long ago that their existence was questioned by many scientists.

“Hey, Buzz, wanna take a picture?” she asked. Buzz nodded and pulled out both his Camera and Pokédex. Once the information on Azelf was stored, he aimed and took a photograph just as the wild Pokémon had telekinetically lifted a stone and hurtled it into the clear blue lakes.

"Well come on then, lets keep going. Maybe we should try heading out into the lake soon?" Buzz asked his ranger. He quickly pressed the play button on his Poké Player.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Buzz recorded Azelf's information into his Pokédex before snapping a picture just as the creature threw another stone to skid across the lake. It caught sight of the flash and turned towards the trees, looking right at them. At first she thought it would be startled, and sometimes wild Pokémon reacted badly when they were. It just tilted its head toward them though. Then it giggled and smiled, disappearing in the next second to some other part of the Lakes.

Buzz pressed his Poképlayer again, and Tynamo's voice rang out into this new lake. Well, come on then. Let's keep going. Maybe we should try heading out into the lake soon?” he asked.

Ivy shrugged. “Sure, might as well. Looks like the last Ranger through here remembered to tie the boat back up.”

A small three foot dock wasn't far away. There were several of them dotted along the shore of this bigger lake, but there were only half as many boats. While some Trainers liked to surf or swim with their Pokémon, it was handier for people like her who didn't carry around a lot of Water types. She did remember the time when all of the boats hadn't been properly tied up after some strong wings came through the Park though. The Rangers drew straws for who had to go collect them. She hadn't been one of them.

The lake stretched on a good way, and it was completely encased in trees like they had just come through. It was fairly deep too, if she remembered correctly, and she was sure there would be something of interest here.

Ivy got into the small wooden boat and undid the rope that tied it to the dock, holding the post so the boat stayed while Buzz got in. Then she pushed off and reached down to hand Buzz an oar while she took the other one. It was peaceful out here, with the sun shining and the almost-still blue water. These kinds of places were why she really liked being a Ranger.

“Oi, you going to help me or what?”

Ivy came out of her daze at Buzz's question, realizing she had stopped paddling, leaving him to do all the work. “Whoops,” she said, picking up the oar on her lap again. She was about to dip it into the water when ripples from below stopped her.

A white minnow-like Pokémon popped up with a red mouth and large black eyes. “Hey, Buzz, look at that.” The fish nosed the boat curiously as they drifted, and it called out to them cutely. It was so small, being less than a foot long. Ivy smiled though, as this was a Tynamo, the Pokémon Buzz had been calling for. He was just going to have to be careful battling it since it was so tiny.

“Fortune smiles. Just be careful with it. Ready to start?”

OOC: Sorry about the delay, lazy person is lazy. Also male Tynamo please.

Ivy shrugged. “Sure, might as well. Looks like the last Ranger through here remembered to tie the boat back up.” The pair wandered towards a small dock with lots of small two man wooden boats tied up. They bobbed in the gentle waters of the clear lake; Buzz watched as Ivy untied the rowing boat, after the Azelf had giggled and disappeard. Amusing thoughts immediately sprang to Buzz's mind as the pair began to row their way out through the lake.

Buzz noticed the boat began to spin as he pulled back his oar, turning to his ranger he saw she was miles away in her own little world. He chuckled. "Oi, you going to help me or what? Look I know you want to dream about me and you on this romantic boat ride, but come on!" Buzz reached over the side of the boat and grabbed a handful of water and threw it playfully over Ivy.

She snapped back into focus, as the cold water covered her face, she proceeded to pick up the oar but faltered at the water's edge. “Hey, Buzz, look at that." She was peering over her side of the boat. Buzz gentle leaned over, careful not to tip the boat, and saw there was a small white eel-like Pokémon. Shorter than the length of his arm, tiny oval black eys upon the side of its heat. The very thin yellow line traced along its back, idicitive of the electricity that cursed through its body. The main colour to it was a small red cross at the tip of its head, Buzz had read that this was the Tynamo's mouth. “Fortune smiles. Just be careful with it. Ready to start?”

"Don't worry, baby, I got this," said Buzz stuggling to contain a burst of laughter. Buzz wasn't entirely sure how he was meant to battle this very small creature in the middle of the lake. He was now regretting not bringing a water Pokémon. His first thought was River Tam, since she could fly high above and strike without worrying about drowning, but of course electricity was not one of her strong suits.

Buzz knew what to do though, pulling out Raichu's Poké Ball. "Okay, Thundera, find your water feet using surf then lets catch this thing," yelled Buzz as he threw the small red and white device into the air. Opening at its hinge, a red light shot out and a orange creature appeared upon the boat. It was a bi-pedal rodent with a white coloured chest. It featured a long black tail wiht a bright yellow thunderbolt at the end. It bounced happily as it prepared itself to get out on the water. A small red surf board materialised out of nowhere and it leapt on and a wave gathered to hold it. "Oh yeah, I got a surfin' Raichu. Get nice and close using Fake Out and then while its struggling hit it with a Yawn. It'll be easier to catch if its asleep, but if you can draw out its drowsiness, I want plenty of time to make sure its not in the water when it falls asleep."

Raichu took of on his little surf board towards the little Tynamo. The pure speed of Raichu soon meant it was no longer visible, all that could be seen was a trail of bright light and the wave of water that carried it. Buzz knew what would happen Raichu would get up close strike it quickly and hard then using the Yawn technique, which activated the sympathetic yawn reflex in creatures making them drowsy. Eventually Tynamo would fall asleep, making it easier to catch. Buzz suddenly realised that putting a swimming creature to sleep in the middle of a lake was probably not the best idea.

I guess I will have to think of a way to get it out of the water and into the boat before it falls asleep. I don't want the thing to drown, Buzz thought, but for now he was just eager to get the battle underway. He had been at the Lakes for about half an hour now and already encountered the main thing he wanted to. He still had another acquisition he was hopeful for. Stunfisk. Often mocked among the Trainer community for looking completely stupid, but Buzz knew it had access to some quite useful moves that would come in handy at the gym, were he to encounter one.

Buzz thought about his gym and the rental Eelektross that rested there, he hadn't got much chance to use it, challengers interest in the gym had fallen lately. The Gym had been open for some time compared to the newer Unova gyms, but he figured it would pick up as a new generation of traines began their quests. Buzz flicked back to reality to watch the battle unfold. Ivy was sitting next to him in their cosy two person boat, practical jokes swam through his mind, mostly torturous to Chainy. Tynamo came first though.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Hey, watch it,” Ivy called as Buzz splashed her with water.

“Don't worry, baby, I got this,” he said in response, his attention focusing on the Tynamo.

She saw he was trying to contain his chuckling, but she couldn't do it. She burst out laughing, having to hide her face into the crook of her arm as she couldn't keep a straight face. He just sounded so ridiculous. She wouldn't ever be able to take those words from his mouth seriously in any context.

Buzz thought for a minute and pulled out a Pokéball, throwing it into the air over the water. A yellow and brown mouse-like Pokémon emerged, with web shaped ears and a lightning bolt tail. He landed deftly on the water, using his surfing technique to float on top of the water. A small surf board in a red shade appeared from under the water for the electric mouse, and Thundera got on it, steadying himself easily. As he stretched a bit, the Tynamo quickly swam back a ways in the lake, faster than Ivy thought it would be.

“Get nice and close using Fake Out, and then while its struggling, hit it with a Yawn,” Buzz called, adding in for the Raichu to draw out the fish falling asleep so he would have time to get it out of the water. That was a great idea, since he couldn't catch a Pokémon sitting at the bottom of the lake. Since Tynamo evolved into the very powerful Eelektross, it was important that Buzz do this right. It sure would come in handy in his gym.

Thundera shot off toward his opponent, becoming a blur as he used his board like a jet ski to race off after Tynamo. It looked like the small eel was about to attack, but the Raichu was too fast. He zoomed in from the right only to suddenly disappear and appear on the left. He struck hard, using his tail and swinging his whole body for enough momentum. The Tynamo went skittering back through the water. Thundera glided away a few feet on his board.

The Raichu then went into the next stage of their plan, crouching down on all four paws as he yawned deeply. A thin, pink bubble escaped his mouth, growing larger in size as he exhaled. It floated over the water, and since the fish was a little stunned, it didn't see it coming. The bubble touched its red cross mouth and popped, and Ivy saw its eyelids flutter for a second.

Then it locked its eyes onto the Raichu, and the water cackled around it. It tensed up as it charged, and then it jetted forward as the electricity surrounded its body. Ivy saw Thundera twitch and shift his eyes to the fish. Then, instead of the slightly off-course Tynamo had been taking, it arced toward the Raichu, as if drawn. The Ranger saw the flickering bolts of electricity point sharply at the mouse, and she realized that Raichu had an ability called Lightningrod that could draw electrical attacks to it.

The fish went racing toward Thundera, unable to stop it, being led by its own attack. It seemed to notice this about two feet from the mouse, and abruptly, it cut the electricity off. It must've been trying to steer away hard, because the fish swung to the right, sailing under the surf board and heading straight for their boat. The wave caused Thundera's board to jerk a bit, sending the mouse into the water. He quickly got back onto his board though, looking fine. Ivy and Buzz both rose to watch, and then the fish struck the side of the wooden boat hard, its attack turning into a simple tackle.

The thing rocked violently, and Ivy flailed her arms to steady herself. She heard a splashing, and a look in Buzz's direction found him missing. The boat evened out and she glanced out into the water. Ripples appeared, and then a beanie hat, and soon Buzz's head emerged, sputtering and coughing. Ivy laughed a little from inside the boat, since he seemed okay. It was a good thing Thundera could draw electric attacks, otherwise Buzz might find out his little fish was shocking.

“How's the water?” she called, watching the Tynamo swim back a little, weaving back and forth, dizzy from hitting the boat. Maybe Buzz would figure out how to get it out of the water now that he was seeing from its perspective. “Need a hand?”

OOC: Oh lol, I kind of forgot about this :X

Buzz watched as the orange electric type took off towards the small eel type Pokémon. The small red surf board cutting its way through the water; Buzz had always thought it was an odd ability for the Raichu family to learn but it came in very useful. It definately helped with those Ground types who appear in the gym so confident against Electric types. The electric mouse Pokémon struck the small Tynamo, sending it scuttling back through the water.

Buzz saw his Raichu form its large pink sleep inducing Yawn attack. It shimmered as the sun light passed through the gentle pink orb; it bobbed over the crystal blue water. Thanks to the side effect of the Fake Out attack - designed to stun your opponent temporarily - Raichu had plenty of time to release the attack without having to worrry about it missing. The small pokémon had no time to react once it had recovered, the large bubble was already on top of him. Popping gently over its whole body, Buzz spotted a droop of its eyelids indicating it had worked.

"Nice job, Thundera," called Buzz. Tynamo having taken two attacks seemingly took the offensive; its entire body was shone with light as the electricity in its body began to charge up. A smile crept over Buzz's face as he knew that this was a futile way to attack Raichu; a recent but vital discovery. Buzz, Thundera and Electro, Buzz's Electivire, had been training together in the Gym when it first happened.

The scene appeared in Buzz's mind. Rain pelted down from the advanced weather modification system installed in the Mauville city Gym's Ceiling. "Thundera, use Petal Dance. Electro use ThunderPunch to to hit the petals away," shouted Buzz from one side of the battle field. Thundera started first spinning elegantly, while the air filled with petals. The torrent of petals swirled toward who began charging his fist with electricity. He darted forwards but a sudden glow from Raichu changed things, Electivire was pulled by an unown force and began to be dragged towards Thundera, the petals were ricocheting of the great Electric type. Electivire's charged fist struck Raichu but it didn't seem to have any effect - or at least any damaging effect. The swarm of petals that filled the air, increased gaining power.

"Wow, Thundera, it looks as if you have unlocked the Lightningrod ability. I had heard of other Raichu's being able to do it, so great job!" Buzz said once the Petal Dance attack had ended. Electro's confused look soon faded, as did the memory. Buzz blinked as he returned to the boat. Tynamo was charged up and darted away from Raichu, but sure enough the same glow from Thundera and, like a magnet, Tynamo was dragged back. An unavoidable force pulling the two together.

Buzz was hoping for the impact since that would raise Raichu's special attack, and as many a challenger had discovered Raichu can be a real threat if its Special Attack gets boosted. Unfortunately the Tynamo had realised what was going on and immediately cut of the electrical charge. Veering hard to the right it cut beneath Thundera's surf board. The surprising speed of the small fish like Pokémon caused a burst of water throwing Thundera off his board into the water. He seemed unharmed as he clambered back up to the board. Tynamo on the other hand was swimming straight towards their boat. There was a smack as the Tynamo slammed into the wooden boat. Buzz lost his balance and was thrown overboard and into the water.

“How's the water?” Ivy called, having managed to stabilise herself. “Need a hand?” Buzz wasn't so amused, he reached up for her hand, but rather than pulling himself up, once he had hold of her hand he yanked as hard as he could. Ivy almost somersaulted into the water, she resurfaced just as Buzz had managed to pull himsef back onto the boat.

"Why don't you tell me how the water is! It's just a shame you weren't wearing a white top; if you know what I mean," Buzz shouted out, offering his hand to the now drenched Ivy. Buzz took a cursory glance over his shoulder realising that the battle was still ongoing. "Raichu, now that you are back on your bored, I want you to use Focus Blast. Then if you see it starting to fall asleep get over there and use your surf board as a life raft."

Raichu began to form a shimmering golden orb in front of him, the powerful but innacurate attack was good, Buzz wanted to get this done as he wasn't sure how long he had till it fell asleep. He couldn't have it drowning when he was this close to catching it. Buzz pulled out a Park Ball from his pocket, wasn't certain it was the right time. He wanted Tynamo asleep, since that would help the chance of it being captured.

Buzz watched as the lightningbolt shaped tail of Raichu flicked through the clear blue water as the ball of energy in front of him was released in the direction of the rare blue eel. The light emitted from the light refracted through the droplets of water in the air, from the gently moving waters, colours showerd the air as the Focus Blast headed towards its small target. The orb was twice the size of the eel, but Buzz knew it would be ok. Its typing was neutral and Tynamo and its family were surprisingly bulky and could take a hit.

Buzz stood dripping wet on the boat, so he took off his hat and began to ring out the water from the hat, turning to his back pack he pulled out one of his trusty item balls, a self modification of a selection of Poké Balls that enabled them to be used to store items, and released one. Unfortunately for him he had pulled out the wrong one. In a flash of brilliant red light there was a large inflatable banana floating on the water beside the boat.

"What the? Why do I even have that?" Buzz said before bursting into laughter. He quickly replaced the boat and found the ball he wanted releasing two towels onto the deck of the boat. "Want me to towel you off, Ivy?" He passed the spare one to Ivy. Having dried himself Buzz watched to see when Tynamo would fall asleep, it was vital he reacted quickly when it did. He hung the towel over his shoulder and clicked the central button activating the Poké Ball. When the time was right he tossed it through the air. He was desperate to catch the peculiar levitating Pokémon, it really would be a great addition to his team.

(OOC: Sorry the capture failed. Next one should be good.)

    BP#2

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Buzz reached up for her hand, and then the next thing she knew, she was wet. The lake water was pretty warm thankfully, almost pleasant, but she hadn't planned on taking a swim today. It wasn't her fault Buzz fell off the boat, though she can't say she didn't expect his little stunt on some level. She broke the surface and coughed a bit, giving him her best not-impressed look.

“Why don't you tell me how the water is!” he called, and she just rolled her eyes.

“The water's fine, thanks,” she said, looking to make sure Haji was still nice and dry in their transportation. He had an amused look on his face, and she could feel the same emotion through their bond. “Yeah, yeah, we'll see how much you like it when you get soaked.”

Buzz reached down to give her a hand, not being able to resist adding, “It's a shame you weren't wearing a while top, if you know what I mean.”

She took the offer and let him help haul her back up into the boat. She was really glad all of their equipment was designed to be waterproof. “No way, you'd just take pictures and share with everyone.” She shoved him a bit as she regained her seat, and then they all seemed to remember there was still a battle going on.

“Thundera, now that you're back on your board, I want you to use Focus Blast. Then, if you see it starting to fall asleep, get over there and use your surf board as a life raft.”

The Raichu began charging up, standing up on his board and creating a shiny orb in front of him that began to pulse and glow with power. Focus Blast was a little risky because the attack tended to veer off in the wrong direction and miss, but it was really strong. Buzz pulled out a Parkball in preparation for the capture.

The eel, though small, should be alright. Buzz and his Pokémon were in the Park so often that they should know how this went by now. Tynamo was pretty tough too, from what she had heard. Lucky Trainers of these rare Pokémon boasted them having no weakness and able to take many hits. Ivy supposed they would test out that theory right now.

“Want me to towel you off, Ivy?” he said as he handed her a blue one.

She just shook her head again. She had just a temptation to flick the thing like she and her brother used to do and sent him sprawling into the water again, but she resisted, barely. Instead, she paid attention as Thundera laughed off his attack.

The water parted as the orb flew through it, making a pathway and waves that rippled in its wake. With a whoosh, the blast slammed into the drowsy fish hard. It skimmed across the water several feet back, but it stayed above water. It fought the sleep too, though Ivy knew it would have to give in soon.

Buzz took that chance to throw his Parkball. It arched through the air toward the fish, but since the Focus Blast knocked it back so far, she hoped the eel was still in range.

The Tynamo seemed to recover enough to see the object coming at him. He didn't get mad or anything but simply pushed the water ahead of him with a twist of his body, causing him to scoot back even farther away from the boat. He didn't seem too keen on attacking. Then again, she didn't think the creature had any moves that really could hurt the Raichu.

The Parkball made a splash about a foot in front of him, floating on top of the water. Then, the eel had to give in to his tiredness, and his eyes closed as sleep overcame him.

Thundera wasted no time in acting, pushing off on his board to get to the fish. Then, when he was closer, he hopped off and gave the red slab a kick with his feet, staying in the water and pushing the board under the eel right before it would've sank down.

Tynamo was asleep, Buzz had a ball to retrieve, and Ivy wondered what was going to happen next.

“No way, you'd just take pictures and share with everyone," Ivy said pushing Buzz as she returned to her seat.

"Moi? Never. They'd be for my eyes only," Buzz said, this always was the kind of joke the pair made. Buzz was never sure why, but he knew it never meant anything. He thought the fact that Chainy always got so frustrated when they made such comments made it amusing.

Raichu's Focus Blast smashed against the tiny eel Pokémon, propelling it backwards along the surface of the water. Buzz threw the Park Ball through the air, but it didn't connect with the Tynamo, instead it had time to react and push itself away from the oncoming ball.

Then Buzz spotted the eyes begin to droop and began to call out, but Raichu was already on top of it. The red surfboard scooping up the Pokémon. "Okay, Thundera, I want you you to grab the ball out of the water then slot it in between your tail and your body then slam into the Tynamo, damaging it and then release a ThunderWave at close range. Finally, I want you to swing the Park Ball at it," Buzz shouted, "hopefully this time we will be a little more succesful."

Raichu clambered back onto the board and swam over to the ball, locking his tail close to his body the ball fit in and stayed. He would then slam into the Tynamo releasing a burst of paralytic electrical energy. Fortunately, while Tynamo's Levitate ability negates its only weakness, unlike most other electric types it leaves it not immune to ThunderWave. Paralysis had proven very useful in the park as it raised the likelihood of a succesful capture.

    OOC: Short post is short.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Moi? Never. They'd be for my eyes only,” Buzz said in response to the picture comment.

She just laughed, shaking her head. “Yeah, that sounds about right. Something more to hide in that bottom desk drawer.”

From beside her, Haji tilted his head in amusement, his feeling coming through the bond. He remembered when she had plastered pictures of Buzzer around the Outpost when he had made copies of a love letter of sorts addressed to her. He had gotten a little tipsy at a party and had some embarrassing photos taken of him. Since he locked them away, she had to borrow Chainy's lockpick and break into the drawer. That had been a fun week.

Buzzer made a face as the Tynamo avoided the Parkball he threw. Since he was a Ranger, he knew how these things went. Sometimes wild Pokémon were unpredictable.

He called out for Thundera to go retrieve the ball and using a ThunderWave on the sleeping eel. When he hit the thing with the ball, it would probably damage it a little more too.

The Raichu got to work, swimming back up the board and climbing on, snagging the ball out of the water with his tail. His cheeks cackled as he charged up the paralyzing wave, and with a jolt, it struck out at the sleeping fish. Ivy saw the coils of electricity wrap around its body and flicker. On top of the sleep, it was going to have an even harder time moving now, making it really easy to capture this time. Buzz was lucky; some Electric types were immune or absorbed energy from electric attacks.

Then, Thundera tensed and adjusted, swinging his whole body as he hit the fish with his tail, dropping the ball onto the small Tynamo. The ball hit the fish with a wet slap, sucking it up with a beam of red light. The ball clicked shut and dropped onto the red surf board, not even bothering to shake.

“Hey, cool,” Ivy said. She grabbed a paddle and moved the boat closer, snagging the ball off the board and putting it in her vest pocket. “Nice and safe. What was the other Pokémon you were looking for again?”

OOC: Don't worry about me not having enough Balls there are a few in the Santa's Sack Item.

Everything went perfectly to plan, Raichu swept the ball up and within in a blink of the eye, all that could be seen was the brilliant red beam of the Park Ball as it absorbed the small form of the sleeping Tynamo. The ball fell to the surf board without even shaking. Tynamo was his. Buzz smiled happily at his new capture.

“Hey, cool,” Ivy said. She grabbed a paddle and moved the boat closer, snagging the ball off the board and putting it in her vest pocket. Buzz nodded and picked up the other paddle ready to get moving along for the remainder of the run. There wasn't anything left in the Great Lakes he particularly desired, but there was this one Pokémon he had heard about. “Nice and safe. What was the other Pokémon you were looking for again?"

"Great Job, Thundera," Buzz said; he clicked the central button on Raichu's Poké Ball and clipped it onto his belt with his other Pokémon. "Well there was this one Pokémon that I heard resides here in the Lakes." Buzz pulled out a small sheet of paper, it featured the documented Pokémon living in each area of the Park. "It's called a Stunfisk, really odd name. I figured since I was here anyway it was worth a try. Mind you I have no idea what it looks like or what its capable of." With that Buzz pulled out a small disk from his backpack it had a label saying Stunfisk. Balancing it on his leg he quickly tossed the Tynamo disk into the bag, from the PokéPlayer and slotted in the new disk.

"Here goes," said Buzz, as he clicked the play button. there were no words to describe the hideous noise that came from the machine. A cross between quacking, a screech, and gurgling. Buzz sighed this didn't bode well.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Buzz returned Thundera to his Pokéball after complimenting him on what a good job he did. Then he said the other Pokémon he was looking for was a Stunfisk. She smirked a little, recalling that one of the Rangers back at the Outpost had been going on and on about how wonderful the thing was. He raved about it. She had never seen it though, so she wasn't sure if these rumors were actually true.

“Here goes,” he said, putting the new disk in and clicking the play button. A horrible noise came from the device, and she flinched hardcore. Even Haji looked less than pleased, and she got a mental image from him consisting of her taking a baseball bat to the Player. She laughed a little and picked her oar back up.

“That is absolutely horrible,” she said, shaking her head. “I don't know what Otouto was talking about. There is no way something that horrid could be awesome.”

They began going across the rest of the lake peacefully. The water was calm and smooth, and the successful capture put Buzz in a good mood. All in all, it wasn't a bad day. The sun was still warm, and there was a light breeze. Her clothes had even mostly dried out.

“There is something,” Haji then said to her, sitting up a little from his laying position at her feet. His ears twitched as he listened, but she knew he was more feeling with his senses. “It is below.”

She didn't have time to question the purple cat more though, as suddenly the boat was bumped. It wasn't just a small bump either. She could've swore the whole thing lifted out of the water several inches. She reeled a bit as she tried to regain her balance, and she drew the oar back into the boat and over her lap as she peered into the water. There was nothing but blue.

“What in the world?” she said to herself. And then the boat capsized with a massive push.

All three of them spilled out of the craft, dumped into the boat suddenly. Ivy came up and coughed a little, immediately looking for Haji. The cat was fine though, floating easy enough as he dog-paddled to her. Buzzer came up too, and then all of them looked to where the boat had been.

It was still floating upside down, but it was now joined by a massive blue form next to it. Water spouted from the whale's blow hole, and they could just stare. Its cream underbelly was barely visible under its huge top.

“Wow, the lake must be pretty deep if it can house a Wailord. Do you want to catch it or something?”

“That is absolutely horrible,” Ivy said, shaking her head just as the cry finished playing. “I don't know what Otouto was talking about. There is no way something that horrid could be awesome.” Buzz simply shrugged and went back to rowing. He watched as the oar propelled its way through the clear blue waters beneath.

He looked around at the tranquil spot in the middle of the lakes, the water was peaceful; the weather was calm, which he couldn't help thinking was a blessing. The Great Lakes could be treacherous in a storm. The amount of times he'd had to go and fix a rowing boat because it had been flung from the docks into the nearby trees. There was a sudden shudder, and at once he regretted thinking all was calm. Within a matter of seconds he found himself back in the water spluttering for air. He pulled himself back into the boat and spotting a great mass of pale blue floating above the water level. Trickles of water running down the giant whale's back, right before an enormous spurt of water was sent high into the sky.

“Wow, the lake must be pretty deep if it can house a Wailord. Do you want to catch it or something?”

"Heh, no kidding, but I think i'll pass on the Wailord. I don't have a Skitty to keep it happy, or the space. I will grab a photo though," Buzz said, whilst pulling out his camera and taking a quick snap shot of the huge Pokémon. He struggled to get it all in the frame, he had to settle for the front half of its body. "Well sorry about this but looks like we have to have that noise again. He quickly tapped the play button on the PokéPlayer, fortunatly the park had the foresight to make all the electronics water-tight and water-proof. The Lakes although not always a popular choice did attract a lot of trainers and the broken players had begun to cost a fortune.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy hauled herself back into the boat after Buzz did. That time spent drying off wasn't worth it, it seemed. She took her vest off and tried to wring it out as best she could while taking a look at the Wailord. It was huge. The lake had to be really deep to hold something like it.

Buzz didn't want to catch it, but he took out his camera (thankfully waterproof, like a lot of their other equipment) and snapped a photo, struggling to get the thing all in the same shot. He settled for what he could get, and then they moved on.

Aiming for the other side of the lake where another dock was stationed, they both picked up an oar and moved the boat along. After a few minutes, an orange form started peaking out of the water, racing alongside the boat. They stopped paddling and just drifted, and the creature revealed more of itself.

It had small blue fins on its arms, and a split tail, sort of like Haji. A yellow flotation ring was around its neck. When they stopped, it did too, and the weasel-like Pokémon shot water at them.

Ivy ducked to the side and the water went over the other side of the boat. “Want a Buizel? Though this one seems a bit mischievous...”

    OOC: Short Post is Short...

Buzz sighed as the mammalian creature bobbed to the surface. Buizel were fairly common on on the mainland, although Floatzel were very good Pokémon, Buzz knew he could purchase one if he wanted, rather than wasting a capture at the park. He looked around the lake wondering where this Stunfisk was. There was a burst of water from the mammal.

Ivy ducked to the side and the water went over the other side of the boat. “Want a Buizel? Though this one seems a bit mischievous..." Buzz chuckled, mischievous Pokémon would be a good ally for Buzz. His mind ran with pranks around headquaters. Sighing once more, he shook his head. He started to row so they could move on, but he had one had ready to throw a Pokédoll if the Buizel didn't want to leave the two rangers alone.
