    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Probably not,” Daniel said, sighing in response to the Sunkern. She didn't blame his lack of enthusiasm, but there wasn't a lot she could do about it. What showed up, showed up. She was pretty sure there'd be at least something he was interested in though, but like how everything else went, it would probably only show up when he was about to leave.

To make matters worse, when they tried to leave the resting place, the Sunkern tried to follow, hopping along and calling out as it bounced on the ground after them. Again, Daniel handed her an object from his Escape Package. This time it was a Slowpoke tail.

She paled a little, even though she knew it was just a replica and not the real thing. They weren't allowed to be hunted for their tails anymore, and whenever they caught wind of those activities going on, the Rangers always rushed to step in. She didn't care how high they sold for, Pokémon were not meant to be mistreated like that.

The bulb-like Pokémon's eyes lit up as it saw the makeshift doll. Ivy threw the tail toward the Sunkern, but in its enthusiasm, it jumped up at just the right time to make it hit the small stem that stuck out at the top. It wrapped around it like a game of Pontya-shoes, and the added weight caused the thing to fall backwards. It took it a few minutes to gain enough momentum to rock and get the tail off, but as it was engrossed in that now, it left them alone.

They managed to get away, going down a few more corridors and taking a few more turns and splits in the paths. If she recalled correctly, the greenhouse was around here somewhere. They might as well check it out while they were here.

They came out of another path into another small clearing, only this time Ivy had to stop suddenly to avoid tripping over the dirt mound running across the yard. As she looked, the whole thing was filled with tracks, like something had burrowed under the ground and made its own highway system in the lawn.

“Furret!” she heard, and she looked to see a brown and cream head pop out of one of the trails. It curiously came out, bushy, striped tail following behind it as it checked them out. “Fur!” it said happily, looking like it was expecting something.

    “Well, there's another one.”

We attempted to walk right past the sunkern, leaving it be in the flower patch but as odd as it seems I can run from most pokemon but those sunkerns don't want to let go. Noticing the thing trailing behind us I handed her an item out of my escape package. Not looking at what I pulled out I gave it to her to throw, but only realised what it was when Ivy flinched at the sight of it, a slowpoke tail something rangers must feel the need to prevent, but fortunately Ivy recognised this as fake and through it justly.

We managed to walk through a few more corridors of the maze unhindered. I looked behind me as we walked and looked at Scarlet. She was brushing her bouquet like hands against the bushed corridor walls, in a way mimicking a child rattling a stick off fences. She looked up at me and gave me a smile, it seemed she wasn't as restless as previously thought. I smiled back and turned my head to the front and saw Ivy make a right at the next breakoff.

we entered into another clearing but this time it wasn't like the other clearings, in here the ground was torn up. Mounds of dirt and tracks of unearthed ground had hinted, if not told us, that there was some underground activity going on here. I thought about the possibility of a cottonee having the ability to dig through the ground, but as fast as the thought came it was gone after realising that it was a bit of a stupid thought.

Out of one of the dirt mounds a small head poked up, the tan figure brought it's small hands out of the ground and pulled them up to his face and then proceeded to come out of the hole and bring itself up to us, showing off it's striped fur coat.

“Well, there's another one.” Ivy said looking to me half expectantly.

"no thank you, although I do like Furret it's species is too easy to obtain." I said trying to come up with a legitimate excuse for my lack of activity on this run. "Let's just keep going, you know the drill if it won't let us pass"

I pulled the pokeplayer up to my face and looked at the number on the small LCD panel, the number 1 flashed back and forth this was it. the last play of my last voice disk if the next pokemon isn't a cottonee then i'll have to try another day.

"scarlet lets try another sweet scent to aid the voice disk please" in the same manner as before Scarlet raised her hands into the air and shook them releasing the sweet smelling spores.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Daniel had no interest in the Furret either, though she was glad to see he at least liked them. She had seen a few Trainers act harshly and disgusted by Pokémon they didn't want to catch, like they had some sort of disease. Just because they were frustrated didn't mean it was okay to do that. She was glad that Daniel could go on the 'good Trainers' list they had.

They moved to go on, but as soon as they started across the field, the Furret burrowed underground. Every time they tried to take a step, a raised tunnel appeared in front of them to trip them up. Ivy sighed. Some Pokémon just demanded attention.

Daniel handed her the last item in his opened Escape Package, and she saw it was just a regular Pokédoll. She called out to get the Furret's attention, and when it stuck its head out of the nearest tunnel, its ears pricked up as soon as it caught sight of the fluffy pink object in her hand. She pulled the small string to get it to inflate, and she watched the Pokémon's eyes narrow on it, as if there was nothing else more important.

She set it down carefully and was pleased when the Furret went right up to it. It immediately made paths around it under the ground, like it was playing a game. Satisfied that it would leave them alone now, Ivy led them onward.

The Poképlayer sounded again before whirring and clicking off, signaling the end of the disk. She waited a few moments and hoped what he was looking for would show up, but nothing came down the grass hall toward them. She continued on anyway, hoping they'd find something soon.

They came into another open space with rounded walls. If she remembered correctly, this was the exact center of the maze. It was marked by three tall statues in a triangle shape pointed toward them. On the right side was Mew, the legendary Pokémon they had seen today. It was made out of a white stone, but it still seemed full of life and not dull at all, shaped like it was laughing cutely at something.

On the left side was Shaymin in its Grass Forme. It was a cute hedgehog-like Pokémon with blossoms on its ears and speckles on its back. She knew it had a Sky Forme also that turned it into an air warrior of sorts, but they had chosen to sculpt its original Forme for the garden. Originally these two were the only statues here, but the discovery of a new set of Pokémon more common in the Unova region and the migration of those Pokémon into the Park made them want to give tribute to the other legendary.

Virizion stood tall in the center front point of the triangle. It was a sleek deer-like Pokémon that had flat horns on its head and a grass-like overcoat that protected its body. It was a master of both Grass and Fighting type moves. She heard that it was part of a trio, much like the legendary dogs of Johto.

This place was used for resting usually. If Trainers made it this far, that was normally quite a feat. There were benches here too on the three sides of the statue arrangement. Ivy motioned to one with her hand as she turned to Daniel. “If you wanted to take a rest, now would be a good time. You've successfully made it halfway through the maze.”

He agreed, and while she wandered around the statues, she asked to see one of Daniel's voice disks. She held it up to the light so she could see the bottom side, and she frowned as she caught sight of all the scratches there. No wonder all the disks broke after using all the voice tracks. The Player scratched them up so bad that she didn't think anything would be able to read it. That was too bad too, as the disk hadn't even worked out. She was going to see what she could do about it, but that wasn't going to help Daniel, unfortunately.

She looked back to the Virizion statue again, wondering what she should do. Then, she caught sight of something odd on the back of it, near his tail wisps. She got closer and inspected, and Haji followed. There was a small gray box sitting on the back with a little blue light flashing. It wasn't visible if she wasn't right up next to it. She picked it up and inspected it, but it was little more than a two by two inch box. She knew one thing though – it was not Ranger made.

“It is emitting some sort of wave,” Haji said. “It is not pleasant or unpleasant, but it does interfere with my sensing.”

She nodded. That was interesting. That meant it could be affecting all the Pokémon in the area. She sighed. The poachers were hard at work again.

She found a little switch on the back of the box and flicked it, hopefully disabling it. She gave it another hard look. “I really didn't want trouble with those guys again. Every time they disappear they seem to pop up again. What do you think they're using it for?” she asked more to herself than anyone.

“Whim, whim!” she got in answer.

She turned her head to the left quickly to come face to face with a cheery expression topped with a puff of cotton hair. The creature laughed and jumped up onto the Virizion's back, looking at her and bouncing up and down. Then it looked at Daniel and danced back and forth, seemingly asking for attention.

Ivy smiled and put the poacher's device into her pocket and turned back to her Trainer. “Well, it's not a Cottonee, but what do you say to battling this Whimsicott?”

Ivy nodded in compliance to my answer, and a smile grew across her face for some reason, I didn't question why though as it's not my place. She started to walk across the clearing so we can press on and put a little action into this trip, however the Furret proved to be trickier than we had previously anticipated as wherever Ivy took the step the Furret would burrow underground and pop back up wherever her foot will land. Staying true to the ethics of rangers Ivy did not want to harm the small ferret like pokemon and soon halted her attempts to move. Seeing this scene, I laughed a little I always knew from previous experience that Furrets were...over active, for lack of a better word. Wanting to move on swiftly I went into my bag and pulled out the escape package. I looked inside and realised there was only one item left inside of it, pulling it out it was revealed to be just a regular pokedoll, nothing fancy. I handed it over to Ivy so she could preoccupy the Furret. With a pull on the cord hanging from the back of the Clefairy shaped doll it inflated to a size almost twice as big as it's original, at the sight of the size increase the Furrets eyes glistened with admiration and soon it's paws were laid to rest as it stopped digging. Ivy bent down to place the doll on the floor just in front of it and as soon as her hands were at a far enough distance from it the Furret ran to it and begun playing with it peacefully.

We started going down the next corridor moving on deeper into the maze. Halfway down the second corridor we walked through the soothing sound that accompanied us throughout the last hour or so had screeched to stop, alerted by the sudden stop of the disc Ivy turned round to me and then to her surroundings. We stood there for a few minutes waiting to see if the voice disc had managed to attract the Cottonee in it's final breaths, but, in the same way the ferroseed disc failed so did this, a search of the maze walls proved there was no Cottonee. I let out a sigh,

"well let's just see what you have to throw at me now eh?" I said trying to add light on the situation. I brought my bag to my forefront and put the now useless pokeplayer in ready for any other voice disks that I decide to use in other expeditions.

Ivy started walking down indicating that we should stop waiting on a Cottonee and press on, a few more corridors later and we arrived at another clearing. However this clearing wasn't the same as others, other clearings we stopped at were polygonal in shape and were quite small in size. This one we were currently in was quite large and circular in shape, but the most defining feature of this clearing was the centrepieces in the centre of the clearing stood three large stone statues arranged in a triangular manner.

the statue closest to us donned a familiar figure, the legendary pokemon Mew, it was sculpted in such a way to create a cute and adorable appearance to any of it's admirers. at the bottom were vines that caressed the monument as they grew showing the age of the statue.

The statue furthest from us was a monument to Shaymin, the Gratitude pokemon. The sculptors chose to use the land form of Shaymin despite the fact there is also it's Sky form, which to be honest looks a lot cooler in my opinion, but the aesthetics may have been decided on due to the fact the land form is seen to be it's original form while sky form is considered to be an 'alternate' form.

The final statue was of an impressive deer like pokemon, known as Virizion, it is one of the newly discovered Unovian pokemon known to be only indigenous to Unova as well as here, This is the first time I've seen any incarnation of this pokemon, up until now I had only ever heard of it, never seen it on the television or any books. Although all the Statues were made of the same material the Virizion statue was especially whiter than the other two, although this could simply be put down to the fact that this statue is one of the newer features to the park.

    judging by the presence of an homage to the Botanic Gardens legendary pokemon and the size of this clearing I assumed this to be the centre of the maze. After admiring the statues for long enough I realised that there were benches situated on either side of the Statue arrangement. Ivy almost as if reading my mind waved her hand towards the benches;

“If you wanted to take a rest, now would be a good time. You've successfully made it halfway through the maze.” With a silent sigh of relief I complied and walked over to the nearest bench, the one facing the Virizion statue. Pulling my bag off my back and slumping it on the bench beside me I stretched my legs and arms out to as far as they could reach releasing all the tension out my body, Scarlet walked over beside me and sat on the floor sniffing the pollen out of her Bouquets.

My eyes closed partly due to the sun beating down on them and partly due to the fact I as getting pretty tired walking around out in this sun. My relaxation was disrupted by Ivy Asking for one of my voice discs, a bit confused I went into the bag slumped beside me and pulled out the useless ferroseed disc handing it over to her promptly. With the disc now in her hand she raised it up to the sun to allow the disc to adopt the slightest quality of transparency, with the disc now exposed to the sun I could see her search for something. With a squint of her eyes she brought the disc back down out of the suns rays and handed it back to me after analysing it, an indifferent look spread across her face.

Ivy was about to sit down with me until something caught her eye, her focus was now directed to the Virizion statue, I decided to stay here while she investigated because whatever it was was probably Ranger business, that and I'm relaxing now. I saw her pick something up from the rear of the statue and looked towards Haji, as if asking for advice or an opinion, I don't know the deal between those two and it'll probably be better if I don't ask.

After a while of investigating I decided to get up and have a look with them, just to check it out and see if it was anything serious. Just as I was nearing Ivy a sudden unnatural gust blew past my hair, I snapped my head back to see what had caused it but nothing, nothing but the bushed maze walls and a bench.

“I really didn't want trouble with those guys again. Every time they disappear they seem to pop up again. What do you think they're using it for?” Ivy asked not realising I wasn't looking, but then again I don't think the question was directed to me, I decided to avert my attention from the gust of wind and attempt an answer to Ivy's question but as soon as my mouth opened....

“Whim, whim!” A sound echoed from ahead of him, I looked at Ivy in confusion and she did the same, I look up in the sky reveals the culprit of the sudden gust of wind and the cry. Standing playfully on the head of the Virizion was an unusually large ball of cotton bouncing. On closer inspection the shape of a relatively small body could be made out and with that realization my annoyance at this run quickly deteriated as it was a Whimsicott straddling on the statue.

“Well, it's not a Cottonee, but what do you say to battling this Whimsicott?” Ivy said expectantly, If i couldn't get a Cottonee then I guess Whimsicott will do.

"well it's a good enough second best right?"

although it wasn't the Cottonee I sought after I guess I would give it a shot even if It will take a lot more effort. I thought how I was going to approach this I had a game plan in the events of Cottonee but Whimsicott is going to require me to think on my feet since I have no preperation. I looked over to Scarlet and pondered on the Idea of Using her for this, but I never did intend on using her for battle just for the final steps of capture by using her sleep powder.

"Okay, let's do this thing" I reached down onto my belt and pulled the left one off it's clip "Come on Salamence" I called out as I launched the ball before me. the salamander like pokemon was released in a flash of red light. with a flap of It's mighty wings it instantly brought itself into it's element, the sky.

I stood there watching the Dragon pokemon glide through the air performing Twists and turns and other impressive aerial stunts. That was one thing I liked about my Salamence over other Salamences, It uses it's almost perfect aerial skills as a way of carrying out it's ability intimidate, Instead of showing it's brute strength like other Intimidate users my Salamence uses it's skill to do the same thing, maybe even more so. I looked towards the Whimsicott and tried to anticipate it's actions, whether it will be tricky and use status moves along with it's ability Prankster or maybe this Whimsicott possesses the ability chlorophyll, in that case I will need to be able to out speed it, especially in this harsh sunlight.

"Okay Salamence let's Do some Dragon dancing and follow up with an aerial ace" I decided on using the move dragon dance to compensate for a speed boost if the Whimsicott has chlorophyll ability and aerial ace to allow an automatic hit if the Whimsicott tries to pull off any Status tricks.

I looked into the sky past the Suns glare to witness Salamences dragon dance. In terms of appearance it was similar to it's process of intimidation as it danced about the sky after a few loops and spins It flew higher into the sky to the point it became impossible to see past the sun. Although I had nothing to worry about this was natural practise for Salamence and aerial ace after a few seconds I could see a shadowed figure shoot down from high altitude, figuring this was Salamence I looked to the Whimsicott to see what it's next move will be...

“Well, it's a good enough second best, right?” Daniel asked, though not really directed at her.

Ivy was just glad something came up that he was interested in. While it was true he was looking for the pre-evolution, he didn't seem to be a collector, so he probably didn't worry about raising it up from its most basic stage. She had a few Trainers come through that wouldn't catch a Pokémon if it wasn't basic.

Daniel really couldn't be too picky at this point though, she thought. He hadn't captured anything yet, and the run quota would soon be over. Whimsicott was a little tougher than its first stage, but she was confident that the Trainer would be able to handle it.

He looked over at his Roserade, seemingly debating on who to send out against the wild Grass type. In the end he decided against her though. That was probably a good idea. She heard the Whimsicott was able to manipulate the wind into some powerful attacks. Roserade would probably not want to be on the receiving end of those.

“Come on, Salamence!” he called as he threw out the Pokéball he had decided on.

The blue dragon was released into the air, and he immediately stretched his large red wings. He twirled and flipped gracefully, showing off his flight capabilities. Bagon, its first stage, was known for always trying to learn to fly. It usually evolves upon learning how, and this one was certainly impressive. In fact, it looked like he was showing off a bit.

The Whimsicott watched it with a neutral expression. It could be that it was a little intimidated by it, being weak to Flying type moves. Salamence was decently fast as well, so that could prove a challenge for it. As the dragon did a speedy figure eight and roared a bit, she was almost positive he was trying to intimidate the Grass type. That was one of its abilities if she recalled correctly. The cotton ball looked a little tenser, as if preparing for a bad attack to hit it.

“Okay, Salamence, let's do some Dragon Dancing and follow that up with an Aerial Ace,” Daniel said, and the dragon nodded.

Salamence began to weave in the air, spiraling higher and higher in a sort of dance. The move was supposed to connect with their inner strength, drawing out their power and speed. It was nice to watch. Whimsicott must've thought so too. It was staring at the dragon intensely.

Then, a mischievous grin came across its face just as Salamence was finishing. The Whimsicott suddenly began clapping rapidly and loudly, and a strange energy seemed to go with it. The Salamence immediately drew his attention to it as the Grass type started to cheer and float up and down joyously. As if bespelled, Salamence began dancing again, completely forgetting the attack it was supposed to do.

Whimsicott looked pleased at this. Then it began to float upward in the draft and start its own dance, looking like it was joining Salamence. It weaved around too before suddenly calling up to the sky and glowing. With a whoosh of air and a burst of energy, the sun seemed to shine even brighter and hotter than before.

Then it giggled, and it bobbed back and forth in the air as it clapped to the dragon's movements.

Ivy couldn't help it – she laughed. At least it looked like it was having fun. Daniel was probably going to be a little frustrated by its pranks and tricks though.

I watched the Whimsicott movements as Salamence begun to swoop down onto the overgrown cotton ball. I figured the Whimsicott had no chance of avoiding Salamence since he was using a move that was guaranteed to strike no matter how well the opponent dodges. But my previous fears were coming to fruition, the Whimsicott had no intention of dodging the blue lizards attack at all. Just as Salamence had begun it's descent a smile grew across the Whimsicotts face as if it was enjoying the aerobic movements of the blue dragon. It started to clap it's hands at the show being put on, and I thought nothing of it I assumed the Whimsicott was gracious and was applauding the skills of Salamence. No. Just as Salamence was in touching distance of the Whimsicott it suddenly broke away from his descent and flew further into the sky carrying out more aerial acrobatics.

As the dragon swooped and dived in the air it was at this point I realised that the Whimsicotts Applause was actually the move encore. My mind went blank the startegy that I had planned out was brought to a halt by Salamences self esteem. I thought about calling him back in breaking the encores trance on him but that would ruin the stat boosts that he had amassed. Then It hit me, I could take advantage of the way Salamence carries out the move Dragon dance. Maybe if I order him to make contact with the Whimsicott while he was dragon dancing.

My focus was brought away from the impressive dragon and was brought to the Whimsicott. It used a slight up draft to raise it self into the air. As it rose it spiralled mimicking the movements of Salamence, almost as if joining in on the dance, although I doubt it would get the same benefits as the dragon does. after being elevated a few feet of the statue the Whimsicott stopped revolving. It pointed it's small hands into the air and called up to something, soon the Whimsicott was bathed in an odd orange aura. The light was faint at first, but soon gradually got brighter. I noticed that the louder the Whimsicott called up to the sky the faster the light overcame it's body, as well as brighter. Soon the Whimsicott became nothing but a body of orange aura, glowing ominously. One final shout from Whimsicott and a breeze flowed through the clearing lifting the Whimsicott up further. At the same time the orange glow had drained from the Whimsicotts body and pooled out into an orange ball of light above i's body once the Whimsicott was back to it's natural colouration the Orange orb shot into the sky.

At first I thought it was some sort of attack directed towards Salamence, even though I could not recall any move that looked like that. The orange orb flew right past the dancing dragon, I breathed a sigh of relief thinking that Salamences movements were too evasive and that he had dodged a bullet, as the orb looked quite powerful. Knowing that Whimsicott was going to be no trouble at the moment I started planning Salamences next moves, but as soon as my mind begun to work strategically I felt a great heat on the back of my neck and down my back I looked up and realised that the sun had gotten a lot stronger. it then dawned on me that the Whimsicott did not attempt to attack Salamence but instead use Sunny Day. I wondered why the Whimsicott would use sunny day because the sun was bright enough naturally, but whatever the reason was I'm sure to find out soon enough.

The Whimsicott lowered down a few feet using an unnatural up draft to still stay in the air almost as if levitating above the Virizions statues head. It stayed there watching the Dragon dance about in the air, swaying in the air clapping away to the Salamences performance. I could hear Ivy giggle in the background obviously amused by the Whimsicotts actions, which, I guess if I wasn't battling it I would also find it amusing.

my strategic thinking would have to be strained here, I wanted to use Salamences Dragon dances to my advantage but I can't just allow it to do that on it's own, the dragon probably wouldn't appreciate it.

"Okay salamence" I shouted into the air hoping it would hear me from all the way up there, "I guess you're going to have to keep dragon dancing at the moment, but we can use that to our advantage, I want you to come closer to the ground" as I called this out the dragon flew to the ground spiralling and swirling in the process.

"Okay, that's low enough" I called not wanting it to get so low that it's movements cause it to crash into the ground "I want you to adapt a Shadow claw into your dragon dance" I could see a faint purple aura surround the dragons claw which was hard to pick out due to the frantic movements. "okay that's looking good, now can you dance your way over to the Whimsicott and strike"

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Daniel looked a bit puzzled for a while. He didn't think that his plan would be so interrupted. However, some Pokémon really liked attention and praise. Whimsicott was tricky too, and Ivy was sure there were even more tricks to come.

The Trainer tried to get through to his Pokémon. It wouldn't do any good sitting there dancing around if the Whimsicott was being allowed all the time in the world to set up and do some serious damage.

“Okay, Salamence,” he shouted, trying to be loud enough for the dragon to hear. “I guess you're going to have to keep Dragon Dancing at the moment, but we can use that to our advantage. I want you to come closer to the ground.”

The dragon came twirling down with a whoosh, and both Daniel and Ivy flinched as he almost slammed into it. He pulled up just in time though and stayed weaving and swirling just over it. Ivy breathed relief.

“I want you to adapt a Shadow Claw into your Dragon Dance,” he said next. The dragon looked like it heard, since his claws started to glow with a purple, murky energy. It was a little hard to see because he kept moving, but it was there. “Okay, that's looking good. Now can you dance your way over to the Whimsicott and strike?”

The dragon didn't answer, but he did start going in the general right direction. The Grass type was watching him approach though, and the Ranger figured she had something up her sleeve. Since the Whimsicott was so far up, Salamence had to give himself an upward slant to his dance in order to get close enough to her. This gave her a lot of time to prepare though.

The wind picked up around the prankster, and she shook her cottony hair rapidly, sending tiny spores out into the air around her. With a cry and a pull of energy she could barely feel, the spores began to grow, like the Pokémon had sprinkled them with water and sped up time. They expanded and poofed, becoming large white puffs that matched the color of her hair. They looked a little stringy and hard to get through, and they were completely surrounding the Pokémon. Even has she thought about it, more spores were growing.

Then, Whimsicott shook and weaved a little in the wind. It breathed a silver sparkling wind from its mouth, and it swirled around her gracefully. Her cotton-like hair took on a more ashen quality, looking more like steel than frail cotton.

By this time, Salamence had gotten within range. He danced toward his target, but as he tried to go through the spores that Whimsicott had grown, he found himself struggling. They were slowing him down, giving the Grass type enough time to finish boosting her defenses. He broke through them eventually though, and went into a spin. The extra momentum was used to power his attack and he lashed out as he swung toward the Whimsicott.

He hit hard, scratching with ghastly coated claws that send the Grass type spinning up and away. Ink tracks stuck to her before bleeding away. It didn't look like she took too much damage, but Ivy was more worried about what she was going to do next.

With a cry, she stopped, somewhat blotting out the sun. Then, energy formed around her, and the sun power was drawn to her. With a flash of light, an orange-tinted beam came shooting down onto her. She soaked it up and immediately redirected it. The creature glowed as she shot the beam straight at Salamence, burning from solar power. It struck the dragon in a whoosh, blowing him off balance and spiraling toward the ground.

He landed in an explosion of dust. He needed a few moments to collect himself, but he stood again, shaking off the dust and no longer compelled to dance. He stared long and hard at the Whimsicott. In turn, she giggled back at him, waiting for him to move again.

“Well, at least someone's having a good time,” Ivy added.

The dragon had spiralled it's way to the cotton coated pokemon, the purple aura that had soaked it's hand due to the shadow claw had created a eerie band around Salamence as it rotated around an axis. Because Salamence had lowered itself to almost ground level in order for it to hear my commands it had to swerve it's body upwards to the Whimsicott since it floated a few feet off the Virizions statue. I pondered on the thought if that might be disadvantageous to Salamence. But never the less the angular momentum Salamence had gained due to it's movements had provided a bit of back force to it's shadow claw and that may prove to be advantageous.

I looked to the Whimsicott to see what tricks it was going to pull off now. I could see the small pokemon raise a little in the air using the slight up drafts to propel her up. The large ball of cotton that straddled the small body of the Whimsicott begun to shake furiously and a look of concentration flooded across the Whimsicotts face. Soon small clots of cotton had broken away from the mass of cotton on her back and floated into the air space around her which oddly enough hadn't decreased the volume of her cotton covered back. The small cotton orbs floated around the Whimsicott, they were about the size of a pokeball so I was wondering what purpose they were going to serve to the Whimsicott. Before I could think any further though the Whimsicott let out a screech and I could see a pulse of energy come out of the body of the small cotton balls. with this pulse of energy the cotton orbs that floated in the Whimsicotts airspace started trembling. after a few seconds of trembling the cotton orbs exploded into stringy cotton balls almost three times the original size. Judging by the density and appearance of the orbs I assumed the move that was used to be cotton spore, and that won't go down well, especially since it has negated all speed increases Salamence had gained from it's Dragon Dances.

looking through the orbs I could see the Whimsicott was not finished, using the up draft the Whimsicott seems to be carrying around with it everywhere it weaved side to side in the midst of the cotton field. I could see it take in a large lungful of air and then expel it but with a tinge of a metallic grey. The silvered air circled the Whimsicott weaving in and out of the Cotton hair. After a while the cotton adopted the same silvery tint as the wind had making it take on the appearance of steel or some other metal.

I looked over to the fast approaching Salamence and the purple aura that is to be the attack. Just as expected as soon as Salamence entered the cotton field the cotton orbs attached themselves to the dragons body, effectively slowing him down, but that wasn't the worst of my troubles or should I say salmences. With it's decreased momentum Salamences Shadow claw won't have as much back thrust as it would of before. as soon as Salamence was within reaching distance he swiped at the Whimsicott, although it was obvious that the silver wind the Whimsicott produced had hardened the cotton surrounding it since Salamences claws scraped through the cotton instead of easily passing. Never the less it was obvious the attack still hurt the Whimsicott since I could see her flinch in pain.

Salamence retreated to a safe distance awaiting it's next move with it's body still coated in the cotton spores, but I don't think that will matter later on. In an act of pain The Whimsicott cried out, rather loudly and soon the sun seemed to dim slightly but I think that's just
me. A few moments passed and soon the dimmed sun had released a beam of energy down to the Whimsicott. The beam looked powerful and for a moment I was worried for the Whimsicott thinking the beam was harmful to her. Quite the opposite, in fact the ball of cotton was harnessing the beam, relishing in the power being transferred. With a burst of power the beam had redirected towards salamence striking it dead on. Judging by the type match ups I figured that the attack didn't do much damage, but by the looks of it it certainly knocked it off balance. Salamnece furiously flapped it's wings as it swayed side to side trying to regain balance but it was futile, unable to hold it's own weight it crashed to the ground bringing up a cloud of dust.

The dust cleared revealing the blue dragon standing on the cracked ground staring at the Whimsicott intently, watching it dance and giggle. I could tell that Salamence was getting annoyed, if he wasn't I certainly was, I expected this species to be like this but not this pesky.

"Okay salamence, don't let her play games with you" I looked at the dancing cotton ball and wondered about my next move, with it's increased defences a physical move might be a bad idea, and I could take advantage of the increased solar surroundings.

"Salamence I want you to fly up and circle the Whimsicott, let's make it dizzy" on this command Salamences wings kicked into action elevating the lizard. Just as I ordered Salamence flew Circled the Whimsicott getting faster with every revolution. I hoped that the Whimsicott will get disoriented and lose track of Salamence, then I will strike.

"Salamence, when you feel the time is right I want you to get close and use Flamethrower, to your better judgement" I called out, I left the timing up to Salamence since I will not be able to keep track of his positioning as he circles the Whimsicott.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Okay, Salamence, don't let her play games with you,” Daniel said firmly, trying to reassure the dragon. He didn't seem to be as amused with her antics as Ivy was, and that was too bad. The Grass type really looked like she was having a good time. People probably didn't make it this far into the maze that often; she probably had been bored a long time.

“I want you to fly up and circle the Whimsicott. Let's make it dizzy,” he continued, and the dragon nodded, spreading his mighty wings and kicking off the ground.

The dragon did a few flips to regain his air confidence, twirling around in a barrel roll. He did a few forward flips and some figure eights, and then he seemed like he was feeling good. Daniel called up to him, “When you feel the time is right, I want you to get close and use Flamethrower to your better judgment.” Fire spelled bad news for Whimsicott. The attack would be able to draw some heat from the sun too.

Salamence followed the order, circling higher and higher in order to get to the same altitude as the Grass type. She was still floating in the wind a little way away from her cotton farm she left floating. She watched the blue lizard warily, but she wasn't panicked. If anything, Ivy thought she saw a smile on the creatures face.

He began to circle her, picking up speed as he went. The Grass type just cheered, dancing in her spot in the air, bobbing up and down and doing flips of her own. She spun along with him, and then just kept spinning. Around and around and around she went, and Ivy was sure she should be busy, but the prank-playing Pokémon just looked like she was having fun.

Then, there was a shimmering on five sides of her, arranged sort of like a star. With Haji's help, the Ranger could see the energy panes easier, liquid glass that shimmered rainbows when the sun hit them just right. They were tilted a little inward, like a funnel, sort of like the Whimsicott was using them like those reflective mirrors people used for sun tanning.

In fact, it did look like the sun was shinning into the little alcove the Grass type made. Whimsicott brushed her cotton hair back like a human would. She also fluffed it, and the Ranger had to confirm with Haji that she wasn't just seeing things when she swore she saw it puff up bigger. There was energy gathering around her, and she looked stronger somehow, like she was using the sun to boost her energy. Ivy supposed she didn't doubt the possibility. Grass types had a wide variety of status-type things they could do.

A sudden movement had both the Whimsicott and Ivy looking in the dragon's direction. He had tucked his wings in, getting ready to dive, and Ivy saw the flickering flames in his mouth. The Whimsicott must've seen too because she suddenly called out, and the wind picked up. It gathered her cotton balls that were scattered away from her and drew them in just as Salamence reared his head back to strike.

The cotton rushed out in front of Salamence as the fire spewed in a straight line toward her. They burned up like they had been dried out for days, but Ivy saw the fire stream weakening since it had to go through debris. Then, it impacted the screen, and parts of it flared off in other directions. The Whimsicott had a serious look on her face as she concentrated on the screen in front of her, holding it in place.

Then, a flicker of fire jumped over the screen, like ashes sometimes did from a campfire. It was just a tiny speck, but it caught the end of Whimsicott's bushy hair. The fire stream from Salamence ended while he panted. Then, Whimsicott smelled the air. Ivy could see the tiny trail of black that must mean burning.

With almost a comical look, Whimsicott cried out as her eyes went wide, putting her hands to her cheek. In another call to the wind, she jetted upward from her protective circle, then back and forth in a line, like she was on stage. By the time she was done and the fire was out, the Grass type was laughing again, like it had all been an act.

Ivy wasn't sure. The ends of her hair were a little singed, but other than that, she didn't look too hurt. Daniel might have to be a little less obvious and a little more tricky to beat this one.

Whimsicott Danced on the Virizions Head bobbing and whirling around as Salamence circled the clearing. I was expecting my plan to work the speed at which Salamence was moving was enough to make me dizzy, and I expected it to be much worse being at the centre of it. However instead of getting dizzy the Whimsicott was getting to work on her next move. I could only get slight glimpses of Whimsicott since Salamence blocked her from my sight as he went round the clearing occasionally. within the midst of the movement I could see slight glimmering lines or edges that became visible when the light from the sun struck it. I figured the Whimsicott was aware of the move Salamence was about to use and set up defences to counter it.

The faint energy planes had been slanted in a way to focus the sun beams onto her to the best it can, so she can gain the best effects of it as possible. She looked around making sure the planes were correctly aligned, once happy with the surroundings she smiled and whisked her hair back with her small hands in a way similar to women. The energy walls then shone brightly exemplified by the sun beating down on it, also weirdly enough looking at the Whimsicott It had appeared that the cotton ball on her back had grown to almost double the size. I recognized that move as Growth, which is a move that greatly increases the users attack and special attack, However, what's worse is that the increase in attack is doubled when used in sunlight.

once buffed up even further the Whimsicotts Attention had returned to the revolving Dragon. it was at this point Salamence decided to attack. tucking his wings in closer to his body he dived towards the Whimsicott letting out a steady stream of flames as he descended. In an act of defending herself the Whimsicott brought any of the stray cotton orbs floating in the air around into the stream of fire. the Orbs burnt to a crisp easily, as would of been expected but stopping the fire was not what the Whimsicott wanted.

Looking closely at the stream of Fire it was obvious that the cotton balls had taken the most force from the attack leaving the flamethrower weakened by the time it reached the Whimsicott. As soon as the fire stream had reached the Whimsicott it was blocked by something. The faint lines and edges lit up in the light of the flamethrower revealing a panel of energy shielding the Whimsicott. Light screen. Salamence halted the descent towards the Whimsicott stopping a few feet away but continuing the Flamethrower despite the light screen in place. A look of Concentration drew across Whimsicotts face as she struggled to keep the light screen in place. The flamethrower was getting weaker, Salamence was running out of fire to use, the flames scattered away from the plane going in all directions. For a while it looked as if the Flames would never reach the Whimsicott but just towards the end of the stream an ember of fire had sparked over the screen landing in the Whimsicotts Cotton hair.

Salamence retreated back to me out of breath, holding a stream of fire for that long will have been tiring to the large dragon. Looking towards the Whimsicott I could see it continue it's cutesy Facade. with a giggle it gathered up some up draft and raised itself in the air dancing about.

My mind set to work on the next move to make, I didn't want to keep Salamence out for much longer since he must be getting tired, and Roserade will be used as a closer.

    "Okay, salamence use substitute"

Salamence nodded and crouched down low folding it's wings into it's body. after a while of preparation Salamence begun to wince as his body started to glow, continuing until Salamences body was just a glowing ethereal body. the focus of the glow started to move away from Salamences body walking out in front of him leaving the crouched down blue dragon in the same place as it was before. The glowing body walked off and stood in front of Salamence flashing it's wings out and releasing a faint roar. The glow faded away from the copy revealing an almost identical salamence standing there, the only difference between my salamence and this one was it was a slightly dirtier blue.

ow with two salamences to use I thought about what to do next. I noticed the Whimsicott was made alot more evasive to my moves by utilizing the up draft she oddly creates wherever she goes, so I figured that would be the next step.

"Ok, Substitute salamence I want you to fly beneath the Whimsicott and use your speed and wing power to turn that tailwind the Whimsicott is using to stay afloat into a small tornado and trap it"

At this command the dirtied Salamence flapped raised itself in the air and flew to a point beneath the Whimsicott. it moved to the Virizions statue and levitated on the spot flapping it's wings to stimulate the tailwind in such a way that it creates turbulence. once that spot was done it moved to another spot benath the Whimsicott and repeated the wing movements. the whole process reminded me of a Hummingbird floating from flower to flower.

I now walked over to my Salamence and told it to use Aerial ace on the Whimsicott once it's thrown off balance by the small whirlwind and then follow up with another Flamethrower. I was careful to say it at such a volume that the Whimsicott couldn't hear it and undoubtedly counter it.

It nodded while never taking it's eyes off the pesky Cotton ball, Flying off into the air awaiting the time for it to strike.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Salamence landed on the ground next to Daniel again while he recuperated from his last attack. He didn't look too impressed at Whimsicott's antics either, and both Trainer and Pokémon watched the wild Pokémon intently.

    “Okay, Salamence, use Substitute.”

The dragon nodded and prepared himself, crouching low and folding his wings in. Ivy had seen this move done a few times. It took quite a bit of energy, but creating a copy of oneself could be pretty useful in battle. It was able to act as a shield or decoy, and if you put enough energy into it, it could perform some basic attacks too. It wasn't a good thing to keep it up for too long though, as it was draining on the user. It also tended to disappear if it took too much damage.

Salamence began to glow, focusing on a power within him. After a few moments, it looked like she was seeing double, but Ivy knew the move was just working. A thin outline began to break away from the original, surrounded in that same glow. This new form got up and walked out of the original, spreading his wings and roaring his power.

They looked almost identical, though the copy had a little bit of a washed-out look to it, like a picture that had been overexposed. Still, it would work. Substitute copies were way more durable than some of the ones she had seen Pokémon make from a Double Team.

“Okay, Substitute Salamence, I want you to fly beneath the Whimsicott and use your speed and wing power to turn that tailwind she's using into a small tornado and trap it.” The copy nodded and got to work, flying under the high up Grass type and flapping his wings rapidly, trying to distort the wind.

Ivy was impressed. A little turbulence would probably knock the Whimsicott off damage. She wasn't sure about trapping it though, since the creature was said to be a master of the winds. Still, even a distraction would help at this point, seeing how there were two of them now. The dragon moved to several spots below, trying to cause as many interruptions in the wind as possible.

Then Daniel instructed the original Salamence to use Aerial Ace and Flamethrower on the Whimsicott again. Maybe this time it would work. The Trainer said this in a really low voice to his Pokémon, probably hoping that the Grass type wouldn't overhear him. Ivy only barely caught it, and that was probably the result of the many hours she trained with her ninja-like Crobat.

The real Salamence shot off into the air, staying a little ways away from the Grass type and waiting for the wind to affect her. The Whimsicott was more looking at the dragon below her, tracing the lighter colored form with watchful eyes.

Then, the wind started to jerk, and the Grass type was jolted. Ivy saw her concentrating, trying to call the winds, but every time she did, she was thrown in a different direction. She called out in annoyance to the dragon below, but the creature ignored it, continuing to jostle the wind. Another jerk had her doing a flip, blown off course a bit.

Whimsicott had enough of that. She suddenly just dropped downward. Normally it would've been an easy feat, but since the wind was still being kicked up, the descent was choppy and wobbly. Ivy watched as small green seeds started to appear in her cotton hair. Then some stringy vines appeared near her hands.

She slammed into the dragon and expelled her energy, touching the dragon with her stringy palms. Then Ivy saw what she was doing. The vines wrapped around the dragon, pinning his limbs and wings to him and interrupting his flight. The seeds dropped from her hair and soaked into the copy Salamence, and it let out a cry as it started to fall. The Whimsicott stayed there as the dragon slammed into the ground, hard.

The copy cried out again as the seeds sapped energy from it, and Whimsicott looked a little healthier after the Leech Seed. Normally, attacks like that or status type moves didn't work on a copy of the original Pokémon, but Ivy supposed since Salamence was giving it more energy to move and take action rather than just taking a hit for it, it was soaking up that energy.

The Whimsicott crowed as she put her arms akimbo. The problem was that she wasn't paying attention to everything, too absorbed in her recent feat. That's when the real Salamence made his move.

He tucked his wings in and dived, doing a flip and striking his claws across the back of Whimsicott. Since her defenses were still boosted, it didn't hurt her as much as it would have otherwise, but it did surprise her, and she flew off the copy dragon and into the air, flipping out of controll.

By the time she regained her balance, Salamence was already spewing his Flamethrower. She tried to throw up a Light Screen again, another one from her collection of four above disappearing as it reappeared in front of her. She wasn't fast enough to completely block it through, and tendrils of flame met her head on.

She cried out and retreated high up again, closer to her remaining three screens and nursing her wounds. She had practically disabled the copy, but the real thing would be a much bigger problem. She brushed the burned parts of her tentatively, scouting out the damage. She was a bit singed, but still functional.

Salamence roared his success. They would still have to be careful though. Whimsicott was still leeching of of the Substitute that was wrapped up in a Grass Knot on the ground, and she still had plenty of tricks up her sleeve.

Whimsicott Stumbled in the air unable to keep her balance in the turbulent winds, for once the shoe was on the other footas the Whimsicott was getting annoyed. Looks of concentration spread over her faces multiple times as she tried to regain control of the winds, but every time she tried she was jerked in another direction causing her to break concentration. knowing her attempts were useless she called out to the substitute in annoyance, almost as if telling it to cut it out, but it never, the substitute continued to disrupt the wind flow just as I had instructed.

Getting annoyed the Whimsicott decided to do something about it, She attempted to drop down onto the substitute Salamence, but to do that she had to tackle the turbulence. the changing wind flow didn't make it easy for her, on her way down she was flipped one way then thrown another, however as she descended through the wind I could see an assortment of small bulbs emerge from the cotton bob on her back, considering the trouble she had given to me I found this quite funny seeing her fumble about. However she did manage to reach the substitute eventually.

she dropped down onto the Substitutes back, and started to wave her hands. the substitute aware of the hitch hiker shook furiously in an attempt to unload her off, but the Whimsicott was going nowhere. A few more shakes of her hand they started to glow, and with that glow vines started growing out of them. The Whimsicott struck the substitutes body and the stringy vines almost erupted from the Whimsicotts palms encasing the Substitute, leaving it Immobile. At the same time as the vines extended the bulbs in the Whimsicotts cotton hair had dropped onto the substitute, attaching themselves to the scales of the fake dragon.

The Substitute fell out of the sky, it's wings unable to function properly anymore gave in. as the sub dropped the Whimsicott stayed where it was riding the beast to the ground, almost mockingly as if she had conquered the dragon. The substitute hit the ground hard raising dust in it's impact the same way the real Salamence did earlier. However it wasn't over for the poor substitute. The Whimsicott stayed there as the bulbs that had latched onto it begun to glow, the substitute cried out in pain as it's energy was sapped by the Whimsicott, as if it didn't have little enough already.

However the attention she gave to the substitute did prove to go In my favour as all attention to the real Salamence had disappeared leaving it free to get a free hit. realising the Salamence dropped out of It's light and shot towards the distracted Whimsicott. Tucking in his wings to get the best effect he struck the Whimsicott dead on, the claws striking against the sadly hardened cotton bob. The Whimsicott was caught off guard by this being thrown off the immobilised Salamence and into the air.

Salamence wasted no time getting to work on the Flamethrower, taking advantage of the Whimsicotts poor composure. He released a stream of flames similar to the stream earlier, the Whimsicott turned to find the stream heading towards her and called out bringing one of the light screens floating above in front of her for shielding. But Salamence was quicker, before the screen came down from above the Whimsicott had already been hit a good deal.

She floated her way back to her original position over the Virizion statue, safe in the comfort that she has the light screens floating above ready to pull down in case of emergency. She started fluffing her hair felling for any damage, flinching whenever she touched a singed bit.

I figured it was Roserades time to try out, but first I wanted to sort a few things out.

"Okay we'll get you out don't worry, use hidden power on your body,"

I called out to the substitute. It raised it's head looking around it's body to see the damage, but struggled to do so while the Vines constricted it's body, so instead of applying the hidden power directly to it's body it raised it's head up to a ninety degree angle and released a stream of energy into the air. Once the energy stream made contact with the air it materialised into water droplets, showing off the hidden power water. The spray of water then fell onto the body of the Dragon soaking the scales.

"okay, now that that's done, Salamence I want you to fly on over to your substitute and use Flamethrower on it"

The real Salamence then flew up into the sky and proceeded towards his immobilised kin. Once near it he released a stream of flames that coated the substitute. To be honest I had no knowledge on how the substitute would react, I just hoped the coat of water dampened the effects of it. In the flickering flames I could see the majority of vines and seeds burn to a crisp, freeing the Substitute.

Looking at the Sub I had no idea if it had enough energy to carry out one more attack, but I guess I will find out soon enough. I figured that this would be the last attack for salamence as it was nearly time for the finishing.

"okay salamence" I called out to the real salamence " I want you to grab the Whimsicotts attention and fly up into the air and summon up a draco meteor"

    At this command the dragon flew up towards the Whimsicott getting close enough to grab her attention, Turning to the Sub;

"all I want you to do now is get above the Whimsicott and use Brick break on the remaining light screens"

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Daniel didn't like the Substitute being tied up. The sub didn't look like he liked it much either. They attempted to free it then, and luckily the Whimsicott just watched from her high up perch, hovering just under her screens in case she needed them again.

The Trainer told the sub to use its Hidden Power on itself. The dragon complied, raising its head and releasing a stream of water. His head was tilted at an angle that allowed the spray to come back at him, dampening his scales and the vines on him. Then, Daniel told the real Salamence to use Flamethrower.

Ivy saw what they were doing. By using water first, he hoped to dampen the effect of the fire. The burst of flames engulfed the vines, dropping them from the injured dragon and dissolving into ashes. The sub shook itself off, but she wasn't sure if it was actually that functional anymore. It had taken a lot of damage from the Whimsicott, and even though the Flamethrower had been weakened, it still sapped at what precious little energy it had left.

He might as well try to include it though. If anything else, it could be another distraction. On that note, Daniel called out to the real dragon. “Okay, Salamence, I want you to grab the Whimsicott's attention and fly up into the air. Summon up a Draco Meteor.” That was one of the dragon's strongest attacks, and if it hit, it would probably do a large chunk of damage. Then he continued as Salamence flew off, turning to the sub. “All I want you to do now is get above the Whimsicott and use Brick Break on the remaining Light Screens.” The copy nodded too and flew off.

Ivy looked up to its destination. There were still three gleaming screens floating up there in the broken star pattern that Whimsicott had left them in. She knew that they only lasted for a little while, and the technique Brick Break was designed to catch the energy of the screen and invert it with a physical blow enough to shatter them.

The Whimsicott looked between the two dragons flying into action. Her head moved back and forth as she decided what to do. In the end, she thought her screens still valuable, and she rushed off toward the sub as the real Salamence started calling up to the sky in order to summon his meteor.

With a shake, a green orb of energy formed in front of the Grass type, swirling and bobbing with a misty fog in the center. It shot off toward the sub before it could make it to strike the screen, and the dragon called out as it struck. The orb sapped at the copy's energy, and not being able to take it anymore, it disappeared in a poof, leaving wisps of cloudy smoke where it had once been. The orb then floated back to the Whimsicott. She absorbed the stolen energy and sighed in relief a bit, feeling somewhat better than she had.

Unfortunately, by going after the sub, she left herself open to the real dragon again. She turned back as he trumpeted a call, and she had mere seconds to summon one of her screens as the dragon's meteor came rocketing towards her. The screen was only able to catch part of the attack though, and the speeding rock slammed into Whimsicott and sent her straight to the ground.

She impacted the soil just beyond Virizion's statue, instantly creating a cloud of dust that blocked all vision. It engulfed all three statues even, and Ivy had to bring her arm up to her face to block some of it that the wind blew her way. The Light Screen disappeared, leaving only two remaining panels floating up high.

They all watched as the smoke cleared, and when the field was visible again, they found Whimsicott sitting on the back of the Virizion statue with her head buried into its neck. She glanced up to Salamence, and then large tears started rolling down her face as she let out a piercing wail. Ivy felt Haji frown in her mind, and he even hunched up a little bit. Whimsicott was only having fun, but maybe she took that violent attack too personally.

Whatever the reason, the Salamence reacted to the tears, flying down to investigate. He probably felt a little bad; this was supposed to be a future partner after all.

He hovered close, making small noises that were maybe comforting to the smaller Grass type. Abruptly, the tears stopped, and Ivy saw the crafty smile plastered on her face seconds before she struck.

With a mighty cry, she lashed out at the dragon. Ivy recognized the attack as an Endeavor. Since the dragon had lowered his defenses in order to try and see what was the matter to her, he left himself open to attack. The Ranger could feel the pull of energy better because Haji could feel it. In this one, the user struck out when it was low on energy. It made the target feel how hurt and exhausted the user was feeling, and then somehow the energy mixed to make the target feel the same amount of wear and tear.

It was working too. Salamence cried out as its strength was drained away. Whimsicott wasn't done though. She latched onto his back and shook her hair rapidly. Tiny yellow spores fell down, and Ivy watched the seeds make contact with the dragon's scales and wings, absorbing into them. With a little added force, the Grass type used him as a launch board to get airborne while she forced the dragon into the dirt.

Stun Spore. It made parts of the body numb, making them extremely hard to use.

The Whimsicott rose above him, panting and getting tired, but still willing to fight. Below, Salamence wasn't doing much better. The meteor had taken a bit of strength out of him, and now he was going to have to fight paralysis. Ivy hoped Daniel had a plan.

the two dragons rushed off, raising a small dust cloud from the wing movements. I Knew the Substitute wasn't going to last much longer but I had hoped it would last long enough to accomplish this one last task. The whimsicott, poised above the Virizion was turning her head furiously, looking back and forth between the two dragons planning on which one to deal with first. figuring that she would probably have more use for the light screens she decided to go after the substitute.

She extended her arms out in front of her, between her hands a green orb formed, the orb kept fluctuating as she kept her concentration. when satisfied by it's quality she pushed it forward, launching it towards the substitute. the substitute let out an oddly hollow cry as the orb hit, flinching extremely, as I expected the Substitute had little energy and that giga drain had finished it, in a puff of smoke the doppelgänger had disappeared. The green orb that had struck the sub remained in the puff of smoke floating back towards the Whimsicott, in which it was absorbed by the cotton ball.

fortunately the Whimsicott made the same mistake of not following the real Salamence, Looking up in the sky I could see the shadow of the dragon, holding itself stationary in the air using it's mighty wings, with a roar audible even from down here, a faint shadow of an object came into vision. The object launched towards the Whimsicott at an extraordinary speed, as it neared the earths surface it began to glow a powerful red and blue aura, the rock was beginning to be imbued by the power of dragons. The Whimsicott startled by the meteor frantically tried to bring one of the remaining light screens in front of her. I was unsure if she managed to do it in time since all vision of the entire clearing was obscured by the resultant dust of the impact. I shielded my eyes taking all attention of the battlefield away.

Once the dust cleared I looked for the Whimsicott and made sure I hadn't Ko'd her.

The Whimsicott sat cradled on the Virizion statue, at first I thought everything was fine but with an ear piercing shriek it started to cry, although the tears seemed genuine I knew from previous experience that this was the move fake tears and shouldn't b taken seriously. However before I could warn Salamence he had already flew down level to the Whimsicott and attempted to comfort her. However his worrisome nature proved to be his downfall. with a sinister smirk the Whimsicott struck the side of Salamences head, the blue dragon cried out in pain as the energy flooded from his body. I was unsure of the move that was being used but by the way Salamences energy was draining I assumed the move was endeavour.

I tired look swept across the face of Salamence as he attempted to regain some of the energy taken, although, the Whimsicott was not done yet with a hand still on his face she swung round and landed on his back and begun to vibrate the cotton bob on her back, in the same way the leech seeds dropped on to the substitute, multiple yellow spores fell onto the wings and limbs of salamence completely paralysing it. happy with it's success It launched itself from the back of the dragon into the air and subsequently forced the dragon into the ground.

now I knew it was definitely time to call Salamence back in, but first it's paralysis needs taken care of, Salamence begun to limp back to me awaiting my next order, thinking it still had the energy to fight.

"you're done for now Salamence, just use refresh to finish up"

A look of relief, spread across Salamences face as a white nurturing glow engulfed the dragon, faint rings of energy scanned over his baody like some sort of medical machine scanning for imperfections.

"Scarlet, you're up" The grass pokemon was watching the battle intently behind us the whole time waiting for her turn.

"open up with a sweet scent please and make the Whimsicott easier to hit, focus it towards the up draft"

With this command Scarlet raised her Bouquets up in the air and vibrated them releasing pollen into the air. The sweet smelling pollen wafted through the clearing being made more effective by the turbulent winds beneath the Whimsicott.

"nice now let's use an extrasensory to grasp a hold of Whimsicott and make it immobile, then once the Whimsicott is trapped rush it with a hidden power, ok?"

The flower pokemon nodded in agreement, It's eyes started to glow an ominous purple indicating it's extrasensory attack, I just hoped that the drug like Sweet scent will make the Whimsicott lees 'tricky' by placing it in a sort of euphoric state created by the sweet smell

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Daniel nodded to himself, deciding something in his mind. “You're done for now, Salamence, just use Refresh to finish up,” he said, wanting to call his Pokémon back. Ivy agreed, with him hurt the way he was, he deserved a good rest.

The dragon concentrated, and then a pure white light emitted from him, reminding her of the hospital. She could feel the soothing pulses of energy through Haji, like putting aloe on a sunburn. Salamence's limbs stretched back out and relaxed as traces of the paralysis disappeared. The strained look on his face smoothed out, and he looked thankful to be done.

“Scarlet, you're up,” he called to his Roserade who had been waiting on the sidelines for her chance to battle. “Open up with a Sweet Scent please to make the Whimsicott easier to hit. Focus it toward the up draft.”

The Grass type nodded and held up her bouquets, shaking them to release a misty pollen that quickly spread into a purplish fog. It was very sweet. Haji even picked up his ears and rose a head a bit from where he was laying next to her. The haze was swept up by the wind, going straight to the Whimsicott.

She didn't seem like she minded though. In fact, she reacted a bit like the Jumpfluff had but smelling in place and rising with it like some sort of cartoon. The Grass type didn't look like she wanted to move anyway.

“Nice. Now let's use an Extrasensory to grasp a hold of Whimsicott and make it immobile. Then, once the Whimsicott is trapped, rush it with a Hidden Power, okay?”

The bipedal flower nodded, focusing and generating a purple aura around herself as she launched her Extrasensory, a decently strong Psychic type attack. A matching aura surrounded the Whimsicott, but she didn't looked panicked at all. The Sweet Scent must be doing wonders on her, or, considering her nature, she maybe just wasn't worried.

The sun faded in brightness, and Ivy saw the Whimsicott smile just as the Roserade was starting up her next attack. Orbs of energy formed around the Poison type, and then they rushed off at the other Grass type. Ivy had no idea what type it was. Daniel didn't say. She knew that Pokémon, even among the same species, had a different type according to whatever power was inside them. Sometimes these were even found to change. Haji's Hidden Power was Fire, but according to him, he had a different type right before she found him.

Whimsicott watched the orbs race toward her, but she just smiled, not moving. Ivy wasn't sure she even could. Then, the winds picked up. Violently. The whipped and whirled the foliage around, sending the Whimsicott's cotton hair flying in place like a cape. The winds arranged into a wide funnel shape, and then they descended on the Roserade just after she shot off her attack. They engulfed the rose Pokémon, sending the plant to her knees. It seemed that the Whimsicott had more than just tricks behind her. She hadn't even moved. Ivy supposed you didn't really need to if you were master of the winds.

Then with a cry, one of the last screens appeared in front of Whimsicott. Four of the orbs crashed into the barrier with a puff of smoke, stopped harmlessly. Two of them shot around the screen though, and they swooped into the Grass type. Ivy couldn't tell how hurt she was from where she was standing since the Pokémon was being held in place. She was breathing a little harder though, and a quick scan from Haji told her that her energy was running pretty low.

The Ranger was more concerned about the Roserade though. Those winds had been biting, and she looked like she took the attack pretty hard. Hopefully Daniel was going to finish this battle soon. She didn't know how much more of a beatdown his Pokémon could handle. Since Whimsicott was starting to be backed into a corner, she might be more violent and lash out if she figured she had nothing else left.

the purple aura that emanated from Rosearade grew until it surrounded her whole body, her eyes flickered with psychic powers before she released it all towards the Whimsicott. the wave of psychic energy flew towards the Whimsicott, when it made contact the wave wrapped round her, coating her in the aura leaving her immobile. Rosearade, once finished, started waving her bouquet in an erratic fashion glowing as they moved, within seconds an orb flashed to her right side, and then another one to her left after a while six deep purple orbs floated before the flower pokemon, and with a push of energy they were launched towards the Whimsicott twirling around each other as they travelled through the air.

The Whimsicott seeing the orbs did nothing but smile, not moving at all, although I suspect the sweet scent had mellowed her out releasing all sense of urgency, then again there's always the constriction produced by the extrasensory. All of a sudden the winds picked up, the up draft that held the Whimsicott up got stronger and larger, the hurricane moved from it's spot beneath the Whimsicott leaving just enough up draft to keep the Whimsicott up. leaves and branches from the walls of the clearing broke away, being rustled up into the turbulent hurricane. The hurricane attack engulfed the Roserade, surrounding it with blades of wind striking and swiping at the flower pokemon.

I looked on as the wind dissipated leaving the stricken flower pokemon holding itself up with it's bouquet. knowing that Scarlet was okay I looked back towards the approaching orbs. Just as I thought she would she let out a cry and pulled another light screen down from above her, but like last time she wasn't fast enough. Probably because the sweet scent made her movements more sluggish, but it did prove effective in some way or another as it managed to block four of the orbs. the other two orbs swung round the edges and struck the cotton ball dead on, the Whimsicott didn't react, mostly because the extrasensory prevented her to.

At this point I was sure that it was time to finish this, the Whimsicott must be getting weaker by now and Roserade probably won't be able to handle another one of those hurricanes. I figured that the Whimsicott would be easier to capture if she was under a status, under other circumstances Stun spore would be the most obvious choice since it had a better accuracy, but I decided to go with sleep powder since it would raise my chances of capture and the Whimsicotts evasion has been decreased from the sweet scent still lingering in the air.

"Okay Scarlet, I want you to run up to the Whimsicott and sprinkle her with a sleep powder, but if the Whimsicott decides to throw something back at you use Flash to throw her off guard"

I watched as the flower pokemon ran towards the Virizion statue, the small stumpy legs moved oddly fast for the Flowers stature, I could see small specks of green pollen form on the bouquets of the roserade. Hopefully the Whimsicott wouldn't be fast enough to retaliate but just in case I hoped the flash attack would be enough to counter it.

As the Roserade ran I went into my bag and pulled out an empty superball, relieved to know the battle was almost over I watched the two pokemon and waited a while before launching it.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

It was getting down to the wire. Daniel's partners were getting worn down, and Ivy didn't know how much more Whimsicott could take. The Extrasensory combined with Sweet Scent and her weariness made it hard to judge her remaining strength. The Ranger could see the increased rise and fall of her chest though, and her eyes had a little bit of a glazed look. She was probably pretty tired.

Scarlet was propping herself up with one of her bouquets, but she wasn't out of energy yet. She could probably take a few more hits, and that was good. The Ranger had a feeling she might have to survive a few more. Whimsicott wasn't the type to just give up, and the corner theory came back to mind. Ivy felt the same way usually. If she was going down, she was going to take as many foes with her as possible if she could.

“Okay, Scarlet, I want you to run up to the Whimsicott and sprinkle her with a Sleep Powder, but if the Whimsicott decides to throw something back at you, use Flash to throw her off guard,” Daniel called.

The Roserade was going to have to hope the wind carried the powder up to the Whimsicott from this position though. Whimsicott was still locked in place, but she was floating way up high, about double Ivy's own height. Still, she ran toward the statue group, what rested below the elusive Grass type.

Green pollen fell out of the bushels as the plant shook the spore into the wind. The particles whipped upward, and Ivy watched the sleeping agent float toward the Grass type. She then saw Daniel pull out a Superball, getting ready to throw. No matter what happened in this attack, it'd probably be a good idea to toss it.

He waited a few moments and then did, just as the Whimsicott caught sight of the attack.

She seemed to know what it was, and she struggled a bit, trying to get out of her confinement. She couldn't budge though. Then, she started thrashing about as hard as she could, calling out to the wind. She probably didn't like being helpless, not with her strong nature.

The winds responded to her calling, and they came to the Grass type, trying to throw the powder off. Then, she started rocking the rest of them, trying to strike at the Roserade again.

Scarlet did what she was instructed, drawing energy to her before emitting a bright light suddenly, illuminating the field around the battlers with a blinding whiteness. Ivy shielded her eyes, straining her vision in order to see what was happening. The Whimsicott was affected by the light, but the Tailwind she summoned was still blowing away from her, carrying the powder with it.

Unfortunately, she didn't stop her attack just because she couldn't see. Ivy caught a glimpse of Daniel's Superball getting lost in it as it whipped around. The Grass type lashed out with it, but due to the light, it was a bit off. Still, it halfway found its target, slicing through Roserade again as Whimsicott tried to defend herself.

Ivy had to hold her head as the wind howled, hoping none of the debris would hit any of them. Suddenly, it stopped entirely, and with that, the Flash died down. The Ranger caught a glint of something falling from the sky, and the small speck landed in the middle of the statue arrangement. The Whimsicott was nowhere in sight.

Curious, Ivy went over to check it out, and she smiled as she got close, seeing the occupied Superball laying still in the grass. She picked it up and waved back at Daniel. “Looks like you got it after all!” she called. She picked it up and unzipped a pocket, putting it inside for safe keeping while she walked back over to Daniel. “I'll hang onto this until you've finished your run. Where to next?”

Roserade ran up to the up draft and sprinkled the winds with the small green spores. The spores glided up the stream of wind towards the grass type pokemon. I could see the Whimsicott struggle in it's bounds, not able to move out of the attacks way.

The Whimsicott shook furiously trying to break free from it's bounds but to no avail, in an act of frustration the Whimsicott cried out into the air. a tendrils of wind broke away from the central spiral of wind, as it was released the spores that floated up went with them being over run by the revolving force and being launched away rendering them useless. Whimsicott Cried out again as she tried to direct the hurricane. Roserade remembering what I had told her before closed her eyes and focused after a few seconds she opened them releasing a blinding flash of light.

Knowing what was going to happen the moment Roserade closed her eyes I launched the superball hoping it would reach her. I flinched away as the blinding whiteness burned my eyes, what happened from that point on was beyond my knowing. the light faded away, choosing to expose my eyes to a slight fading light for the chance to see the action early, I could see the Whimsicott rubbing her eyes. although her attack was slightly hindered by he flash she still managed to direct the hurricane into Roserade.

The Hurricane hit harder than the last one, the rough winds sliced through the clearing, Ivy and I both had to shield our faces as twigs and leaves swept through. Shying my head away I could see the resting Salamence fold it's wings over it's face for protection. Soon the winds died down revealing a stricken Roserade panting heavily. I looked towards the arrangement searching for the Whimsicott.

My hopes heightened as soon as Ivy walked into the centre of the arrangement and picked up a small orb.

“Looks like you got it after all!” Ivy called over to me, I breathed a large sigh of relief knowing that all the work I put into the battle was put to good use. She slipped the ball into her jacket pocket, “I'll hang onto this until you've finished your run. Where to next?”

"Wherever is fine, as long as we get out of this maze" I laughed, happy that i've gotten one of my goals.

"but before we go" I reached into the bag that was slung over my shoulder and pulled out a bottle of medicine, it was a specially formulated medicine designed to provide maximum restoration to it's patients. I called Scarlett over, and she happily complied posing herself in front of me. With a tug of the trigger a liquid sprayed out, coating Scarlett's wounds. After depleting the whole bottle I laid it back in my bag and turned to Salamence.

"Salamence you done good, use roost"

The dragon gave off a faint yawn and rested it's head on it's limbs, it's Wings folded over it's body similar to a blanket. After a few moments of healing I pulled an empty pokeball off my belt clip and called the blue dragon back into it's ball knowing it was fully healed.

    "Shall we continue?"

(OOC: I just realized that you had two Superballs and not two Parkballs. That's pretty awesome. Also post looks better. More capitals this time lol)

    Ranger Ivy Frost

“Wherever is fine, as long as we get out of this maze,” Daniel responded. Then he said to wait a moment as he dug into his bag. He pulled out a bottle, and Ivy recognized the label as one for a Max Potion, designed to heal up a Pokémon's every injury. He called Scarlet over and sprayed the bottle on her, healing up all her wounds.

He returned the empty carton to his bag (which she was glad to see; some Trainers simply left their trash on the ground) and turned to his Salamence, complimenting the large dragon too. Then he asked it to use Roost in order to heal itself, and he did happily.

The dragon settled down into the ground a bit as he rested his head on his limbs and folded his wings in and over himself like a protective covering. Then the Trainer recalled him back into his ball and clipped him back to his belt. Salamence would be rested the next time Daniel called on him.

“Shall we continue?” he asked, and Ivy nodded.

She looked around for a moment. Daniel wanted out of the maze, but since they were in the center of it, she thought it might take too long to walk all the way. Instead, she turned to Haji.

“Okay, Haji, let's cheat.” He nodded at her, already seeing where her thought process was going because of the bond they had. “You remember that one western path out of the maze that's near the greenhouse? Let's go there.”

Haji nodded, getting close to her. She grabbed onto Daniel's shirt, and he grabbed his Pokémon, and then they were off. The air shimmered around them, and a pulling sensation happened for a few seconds. Then, the greenhouse stood before her. Ivy shook the effects off easily since she was so used to warping this way, but she waited a little bit for Daniel, just in case.

A rustling drew her eyes over to the far left side of the plant house, in the patch of sand they had brought in, surrounded by a neat, red wood border. A plant roughly the size of a person was staring back at them, sort of hiding behind the corner of the greenhouse. It had a triangular dark hat, and the green sock-doll like form had darker barbs all over its limbs. It reminded her a little of a scarecrow.

“Hey, a Cacturne. Those are pretty rare. Wanna give it a go?” she asked. His run was coming to an end soon, but he only had one Pokémon. Hopefully he'd be interested in this one, providing he had enough supplies.

Ivy looked round looking at her surroundings, looking at a way out but she knew that whatever way we walked we'd still have to make our way through the rest of the maze and all encounters during that.

“Okay, Haji, let's cheat.” She turned to the small purple feline “You remember that one western path out of the maze that's near the greenhouse? Let's go there.” the Espeon nodded back, although I had a feeling he knew what she was going to say before she did.

The pink orb an the cats forehead begun to glow, and before I could begin to understand she clutched onto my shirt quickly, the urgency of the pull led me to believe the Espeon was using teleport to get out easily, not wanting her to be left behind I placed my hand onto Scarlets shoulder and pulled her close to us.

I could feel an odd sense of tearing overcome me as I dematerialised, the three statues sitting proudly in the middle of the clearing faded being replaced by the sight of a glass hut bordered by red fencing. The teleportation effect created by Haji ended, I looked down to Roserade and saw her flinch, the psychic energy produced by teleport move may have affected her in some way, after all she was part poison type.

I saw Ivy focus her attention towards the Green house, still shaken up by the sudden change of venue, I tried to identify the oddity. A large Human like figure stood by the corner of the Green house spying on the sudden intruders. At the sight of the pokemon my mind suddenly presented a vivid memory of a horror movie I had seen a while back.

“Hey, a Cacturne. Those are pretty rare. Wanna give it a go?” Ivy said expectantly.

My run was coming to a close and I had only roughly three more encounters, but in a way I was okay with that, I wouldn't want to catch a pokemon just for the sake of catching one, I came here with a goal to catch a Ferroseed and Cottonee, anything more than that would be a bonus, so in a way I wasn't expecting to come out with anything more. Also I would hate to waste the effort of battling the cactus pokemon only for it to not be used.

"It's tempting but a Cacturne doesn't interest me that much, sorry, let's just keep going, just use a Pokedoll if it doesn't allow us to go"
