Seeing Flygon's reaction to Axew's Taunt, Axoin called out to his partner. “Alright bud, new plan! Use Feint Attack to get in behind Axew, and smack him up against the rock wall over there with your wings.” While speaking, the Trainer was looking about the area, likely trying to decide how to best use the field to his advantage. Looking back over at the cave, he added, “Next, use Rock Slide on that wall to bring down some of those loose boulders above the cave mouth and hopefully knock the wits out of that little green menace. Then, use DragonBreath like he did.”

Flygon, hearing that his Trainer was focusing on offense as well, was all too happy to comply. The large Dragon-type faded from sight, causing Axew to scan the area surrounding him in confusion. Moments later, it let out a cry of surprise as Flygon reappeared and lunged, slamming the wild Pokemon against the wall with his body. The rocks resting atop the cave shuddered, but did not move just yet.

<Is he trying to create a landslide?> Aria asked, backing away from the battling Dragons. The Gardevoir kept looking from the combatants to the path just behind the two humans. <We are on an incline here.>

It took a moment for Makina to connect two and two together. Normally, moves such as Rock Slide and Rock Throw were easily pulled off in this area thanks to stones already littering the path. In this case though, the only available rocks were found resting atop the cave. Flygon and Axion had both come to this conclusion, which would explain the reason he would ram Axew against the wall. Considering they were now at the top of what was basically an extremely large hill, though... “Wait! You might end up causing a chain reaction if you do that--”

Axew appeared to come to the same conclusion as well, getting down to all fours and scratching into the earth as fast as his claws would go. Flygon, fixed on his task, didn't see his opponent's reaction and focused on ramming the wall once more. This time, a few of the smaller rocks began to dislodge and fall free, heading towards the panicking Axew. There was a loud crashing sound as the rocks toppled down, along with a large dust cloud blocking everyone's sight.

<He didn't knock them all down, thank Arceus,> Aria grumbled over the link. <Tell the Trainer to make sure not to do anything to upset those stones again.>

We just climbed up an extremely steep incline,” Makina said, relaying Aria's remark to Axion. “If any more rocks fall down, they could keep going and block the path below. We're out of a way back without flying if that happens, so might not want to do that again.”

By this time, the dust cloud had started to fade. Flygon, fanning away some of the debris with his wings, looked among the fallen rocks a moment before letting loose a DragonBreath right in the center where Axew had once stood. Pleased with his attack, Flygon rushed in-- and grew confused when his olive-hued foe was nowhere to be found. As he began to move away, the ground erupted as something shot upwards and launched at the hovering Dragon-type, knocking him down to the ground. Thankfully, Flygon was just dazed.

That solves the mystery of just what ability this little guy has,” Makina said, recognizing the effects of Mold Breaker. “Still, Axew messing with the ground must have softened it some. You can probably use it more effectively now.”

[[FInally posting, Why must December be so busy]]

    @Akinai

As the string of strange sounding syllables continued to emerge from the smaller dragon’s mouth, Flygon took a few moments to fly around in quick, sweeping circles. Axew’s head followed the flying pokemon, keeping his eyes on his airborne opponent. Axion’s commands finally made it to Flygon’s mind, the fully offensive plan syncing quite well with the ground type’s fully taunted mindset. He lunged, wings folding against his pale green form to pick up speed. As it appeared he would smash straight into the panicking Axew, he disappeared. Axew ceased his movements, looking cautiously around for the seemingly invisible Flygon. He took a step back, the wall becoming slightly closer as to keep a somewhat protective barrier behind him. However it did little to help him as Flygon reappeared as if from Axew’s own shadow. Flygon’s speed, somehow conserved through its disappearing act, now worked to launch Flygon straight towards the Axew, its momentum crushing the smaller pokemon against the rust-colored rock face behind them. In protest, the stones randomly sitting along the cliffs shuddered as if to fall, but remained in place for now.

Axion watched with satisfaction as his pokemon flawlessly pulled off the feint with ease; While Flygon was a bit of a hothead, he was using his energy the right way for once. Axew was starting to look a little more winded, which meant that maybe this battle wouldn’t have to go too long. On the other hand, he was noticing a decline in Flygon’s health too. He hoped that the pokemon could stand up long enough to finish this, as he didn’t want a partner to faint during a run and be left with only one pokemon. He watched as the rocks at the top of the cliff face began to rumble a bit, Flygon moving on to the next stage of the attack combo. As the first rock dropped, he heard Makina yell out “Wait! You might end up causing a chain reaction if you do that--”

The landscape and possible repercussions of the upcoming rock slide began to click into place as Axion watched, now horrified, as Flygon pulled back to slam into the wall once more. The trainer attempted to call out in warning, to stop before it was too late, but no sounds managed to escape his parched throat. He instead resorted to crouching as a desperate attempt of securing himself as the green-skinned pokemon slammed directly into the cliff face once more. While Axew had been at that exact spot a moment before, a small part of his mind noticed a cloud of dirt flying everywhere below flygon, apparently some sort of ground type move that was allowing Axew to escape the small barrage of rocks that followed. Flygon itself barely managed to duck away as the smaller rocks, before hovering rather close to the falling point, now came down towards the digging dragon, falling towards the softening ground and causing a large cloud of dust to rise up as the rocks landed heavily, blocking the area from everyone’s immediate sight and causing miniature tremors in the earth.

Axion stood up again, thankful that the whole mountain had not followed the loose boulders. Makina came a step closer to him and said “We just climbed up an extremely steep incline,” looking at the path they had so assiduously trudged up. “If any more rocks fall down, they could keep going and block the path below. We're out of a way back without flying if that happens, so might not want to do that again.”

Axion felt chastised for not having realized the potential outcomes sooner, the heat of battle having pulled him in too deeply. He took a moment to breath deeply before flatly stating “sorry.” His voice, much of the emotion that had been building up, was now fairly flat and level, his mind clearer and focused to better study the next reactions and plan accordingly.

Flygon, oblivious to the consequences of his actions, or anything much beyond defeating Axew, was now flitting about the clouded debris-strewn battlefield in an attempt to catch a glimpse of olive-green scales. His wings flapped slowly, clearing away the last remnants of the ash cloud surrounding the area. Instead of Axew though,, he found a deep hole that was freshly dug, where Axew had been slammed against the wall. A small depression still lingered to mark the point of impact right above the dirt. Flygon, not one to give up, made an attempt to cover the area with liquid flames, the purple glow like tongues licking every crevice and hole for purchase. As the light show ceased, Flygon seemed overly proud of his achievement.

Before the celebrations could begin, there was a disturbance where the faint hint of Flygon’s shadow hit the ground below. Like a bullet fired from an underground cannon, Axew emerged, his much smaller form still a threat as his subterranean attack hit the Flygon with surprising force and accuracy. Flygon, both dazed and surprise, slowly fell to the ground and landed with a dull thump. A much smaller cloud of dust sprayed about before again settling to the ground. The dragon type’s face could only be described as total surprise.

“That solves the mystery of just what ability this little guy has,” Makina said from slightly behind the Flygon’s trainer. “Still, Axew messing with the ground must have softened it some. You can probably use it more effectively now.”

Axion was already scanning Axew’s data, and what she meant clicked into place. Despite this, Axion put it as good yet minor information; he knew ground type attacks would hit, but not cause large damage to another ground type. Thus his mind returned to the next important item, what the next move was to be. Both combatants were wearing down, although he was starting to feel concern for Flygon. Also he assumed that the taunt was still fully controlling Flygon’s actions, so he was now limited in his move choice. But he did have the softer earth, as well as a now even more uneven battlefield.

“Flygon, lets keep up this momentum, we’re starting to gain the upper hand. So now I want you to go underground with dig. Use it to soften up the ground more, it needs to be truly soft. When you’re done, I want you to erupt from the ground and hit Awex from behind again, As you’re emerging, try to use sandstorm with the whole area around you so you have a lot of dirt for ammunition and then are hidden so you can use it to offer up another powerful dragon claw.” Axion paused for a minute, wondering how to best surprise the small yet powerful Axew. He decided on a slight switch in tactics. “After you’ve hit it hard and fast, use supersonic in order to offer it another challenge or two while retaliating. You can damage it without doing anything at all, which might help you out a bit.”

Axion nodded absently, looking at a small device in his hand- a Pokedex. After tinkering with its settings for a bit, he looked once more at Axew and then at Flygon. “ Flygon, lets keep up this momentum, we’re starting to gain the upper hand. So now I want you to go underground with Dig. Use it to soften up the ground more, it needs to be truly soft. When you’re done, I want you to erupt from the ground and hit Axew from behind again.”

Flygon wasted no time, twisting his body to claw into the softened dirt. Due to the effects of Taunt, the Dragon furiously dug into the ground and quickly disappeared from sight. Seeing his foe disappear, Axew began to stomp his feet in time to some unheard beat, the technique giving the wild Pokemon added vigor.

As Makina watched the battle, she had to approve of Axion taking advantage of the softened earth. Flygon, while able to easily take to the skies, were better inclined to battle in the sand or underground. This was likely due to their time as Trapinch, or maybe just their home climate. Before she could mull more on the matter though, she realized Axion had not yet finished talking.

--Try to use Sandstorm with the whole area around you so you have a lot of dirt for ammunition and are hidden so you can use it to offer up another powerful Dragon Claw,” the Trainer said. “After you’ve hit it hard and fast, use Supersonic in order to offer it another challenge or two while retaliating.”

And now we have a problem, Makina remarked to Aria, shaking her head. It was normal to order multiple moves at once, even recommended so a Trainer's Pokemon would not be caught flatfooted in mid-command. To order so many moves at once, especially with Flygon feeling angered from Taunt, meant that the Dragon-type would likely skip attacks or muddle one up.

Upon seeing that Flygon had disappeared from sight, Axew's demeanor changed to one of exasperation. The small Dragon Pokemon began to stomp about, clawing the air as if expecting his opponent to appear at any moment. Finally, Flygon erupted from the ground, striking Axew as he launched into the air once more. Instead of shifting into Sandstorm though, the Mystic Pokemon swiped at his foe with a tail strike instead- clearly he was too angry to do anything but attack still. Axew's Frustration managed to land on the limb, but barely made a scratch.

Both Pokemon powered their next attacks simultaneously, Axew quickened from his Dance and Flygon able to harness the raw energy used in Dragon Claw quite easily. The two Dragons slashed at each other, their claws meeting their respective element and giving off a vivid violet color. After a flurry of striking and parrying, both of them staggered back with new wounds. New cuts shined on their hides, and both Pokemon looked to be in bad shape.

Suddenly, Flygon let out a screech- his eyes looked unclouded, meaning that the Taunt had finally worn off. As he belted out a Supersonic though, Axew barely managed to erect a golden-hued barrier at the last moment, blocking the attack. The Protect faded quickly though, and the user looked to be breathing heavily.

If you don't end this soon, neither of them will last at this rate,” Makina warned Axion. “Change tactics if you must, a heavy-handed approach is wearing them both down.”

Flygon took to Axion’s commands as if the pokemon’s very life depended on it; Axew’s taunt was still in effect, almost rising Flygons every motion to a fever pitch. The small dirt-stained claws tug furiously at the pliable soil, throwing up small clumps in a haphazard manner. Axion watched as the green body rapidly began to disappear into the hole, a long thin body becoming little more than a green cone, then a weed, and finally nothing sticking out of the hole to contrast against the soft rock-strewn battlefield. Axew, watching this, did not attempt to stop the other dragon pokemon, instead confusing the trainer by beginning a rhythmic thumping along the ground. Each foot would alternate stomping to the soundless melody, a sort of secret dance known only to this Axew. Every few moments, the rhythm seemed to increase in tempo, as if this ritual was giving the small Axew additional strength and speed. Small swipes at the air began to accompany the dance, the grasping claws seeming to miss their invisible target each time.

Wonder what he’s doing, Axion wondered, waiting for Flygon to appear. he had to approve of Flygon’s delayed re-emergence. as it allowed both time for Axew to lose his opponent’s position and perhaps allow the already hotheaded pokemon a moment to cool down from the taunt. As much as he was willing to take advantage of it, moves that limited what he could do were always a hindrance to a successful strategy. Flygon was doing well so far, but his pokemon was almost out of steam. He had to capitalize what little energy was left in Flygon, the types both their biggest advantage and disadvantage. The next few moves would be crucial to the final capture.

As Axew’s dance became faster and more erratic, the pokemon seemed to be quite tired of the evasion tactics, itself also seeming to prefer a direct fight much like Flygon. His patience and draconic dance paid off as the Mystic pokemon emerged in a stream of crumbling dirt and dust. He came out directly underneath Axew, obviously following the vibrations of the stomping to perfect the attack’s accuracy. Axew was hurled a few meters away, landing quite ungracefully amidst a small pile of hard red-brown stones knocked loose during the ineffective rock slide. Axion waited to see a cloud of dust join the now sky high Flygon, but was unimpressed when instead, the flying dragon whirled around and began to dive bomb directly towards the land-bound target. Axion had figured that the taunting remarks would have sufficiently worn off by now to allow for at least a few non-damaging moves, but such was apparently not the case. Now he watched as an important aspect of his strategy was more or less thrown away like so much discarded toilet paper. He shrugged it off, the lack of emotion many found disconcerting, but he found a comfort in control. His excitement earlier had made him to focused on what was happening, not the long-term strategy that needed to be the goal. So he set back his disappointment and anger, and watched to see how well Flygon managed to execute the remainder of the attack pattern.

Flygon, almost falling to the ground with the speed and ferocity he was displaying, shifted his face into a defiant snarl as he came close enough to physically assault Axew. As his body came within a meter of the ground, his body snapped to horizontal with the ground, and his three-pointed tail came forward like a whip to strike at Axew, adding to the damage he had received within the last few moments. Sheer rage flashed across his horned face as his short arm lashed out, an act more of frustration than any true strategy. Axion deduced that the small Pokemon was down his last reserves of energy to be using such a desperate tactic. While the talons did make contact, Flygon seemed no worse off as he silently hovered above the ground, wings idly flapping in the arid air. The trainer could not even see the point of contact, so he ignored the attack.

The next attacks happened so fast that Axion was unable to tell who struck first. Both Axew and Flygon extended their claws to their maximum length, the points beginning to radiate with unleashed draconic energy. The Pokemon raced towards each other, meeting in a spectacular light show of violet and red. Each swiped at their respective opponent, two sword masters practicing a their craft. The slashes and parries intercepted each other, but a few still managed to strike true, drawing forth growls of pain as the scratches became painful. After countless seconds of this barrage of natural blades the two retreated a safe distance away from each other in order to nurse at their wounds. Axion took a long look at Flygon, noticing a larger nick in his right leg, and a poked hole in the wing which seemed to pulse at every beat of the tired Pokemon's wings. Axew had fared no better, his horn sporting its fair share of lines across it. Both were labored in their breathing and moved sluggishly. However, Flygon shook his head, looking around for a moment. Axion saw that his face was no longer the mirror of rage that had glazed his face ever since the taunt began.

Flygon attempted to take advantage of its foe's moment of inattention, taking in a mighty breath of air. From somewhere deep inside its throat a high pitched squeal poured forth, the sound hardly audible to the two humans assembled nearby. As the waves threatened to overcome Axews already addled mind, the dragon’s minute form was encompassed by a radiant field of golden-hued energy. They deflected the dangerous sound waves for a moment, before the shimmering shield shattered around Axew and he panted for a moment, the narrow escape having drained even more of his little remaining vigor.

“If you don't end this soon, neither of them will last at this rate,” Makina said, a concerned face seeming to stare daggers at Axion. “Change tactics if you must, a heavy-handed approach is wearing them both down.”

Unfortunately Axion had to agree with the statement. neither pokemon was in good shape, And he honestly didn't want to see either pokemon faint. He knelt down, feeling the ground for its consistency, particle size, anything to give him some idea. Up rose a hand, the fine particles sifting between his outstretched fingers. It was soft and loose now, the perfect consistency for evasion maneuvers. Finally he came up with something that would hopefully not be too stressful to either combatant, and perhaps would bring this battle to a conclusion rapidly. “Flygon, I just need a little more effort from you.” Standing back up, he let go of the small clod of dirt left in his hand. “We’ll use sonic boom to end this. First use it once on the pokemon to maybe stun him for a second. Then, instead of hitting Axew head on, aim a few more sonicboom attacks behind him. Fly into the dust cloud as fast as you can and use it as cover. keep up the barrage of sonicbooms until Axew is pretty close to me; I’d prefer to only need one ball for this. You can use the wave of clouds you make as cover against too many attacks. Finish this off like we started it, full of energy, and try to have some fun. But don’t make Axew faint, or all this will have been a huge waste.”

Axoin knelt to the ground, feeling the softened earth as if testing it for a new battle tactic. After sifting the dirt through his fingers, he finally stood and faced his exhausted teammate. “Flygon, I just need a little more effort from you,” he said. “We’ll use Sonicboom to end this. First use it once on the Pokemon to maybe stun him for a second. Then, instead of hitting Axew head on, aim a few more Sonicboom attacks behind him. Fly into the dust cloud as fast as you can and use it as cover.”

<Dust cloud? There is no sand being tossed about—oh.> Aria's musing stopped in mid-sentence as she connected two and two together. The Psychic-type watched the battle with renewed interest; now that it wasn't proving to be a full-on muscle match, she decided to pay more attention. Beside her, Makina kept silent. For the moment, this battle could go either way.

Finish this off like we started it, full of energy, and try to have some fun. But don’t make Axew faint, or all this will have been a huge waste,” the Trainer finished, earning a nod from Flygon. The two looked determined to finish this, for better or worse.

Flygon gave a loud roar, letting out a large sound-wave forward towards the weakened Axew. The attack made the small Dragon shudder and kicked up a moderate amount of sand in the process, lowering vision of the battlefield by a bit. Seeing that his opponent was now quickly moving away, Axew attempted to slow Flygon's speed with a frightening glare. Fortunately for the Desert Spirit, the look was lost thanks to the cloud covering the area.

Once he was behind his target, Flygon let out another Sonicboom to make the Axew stagger. By this point, the wild Dragon had had enough; he let out a shriek, giving off his own form of sound-waves to damage his opponent on all sides. As the sand cloud lessened, it showed the two Pokemon- Flygon, still airborne and looking triumphant, and Axew looking as if it was running out of options. Both were still weakened, but still conscious.

Flygon, now under control of himself once again, began to circle Axew in an attempt to line himself up for the potentially final attack. His opponent watched, poised to strike if Flygon made a wrong move. Each eyed the other as Flygon again took in a large volume of the dusty air, and released it in a hyper-sonic burst of energy. The boom resonated throughout the rocky mountainside, and Axion warily watched, expecting another unexpected rock slide as result of the noise. Thankfully, the only thing that moved was the dust that rose around Axew as he stumbled backward from the sudden onslaught of noise. Not allowing himself to let up, smaller waves of concentrated sound energy poured forth from Flygon, aimed around the small grounded pokemon and causing further dust clouds to rise from the dry cracked ground.

Axew hopped around, attempting to dodge the attacks that weren't even aimed for him. As Flygon moved away and toward Axew’s exposed back, the small dragon pokemon’s eyes glowed a deep red, and a wicked smile crept across his face. Axion immediately recognized the attack scary face, an obvious ploy to slow the faster dragon pokemon down to Axew’s level. However, the amount of dust in the air now clouding the glow and preventing Flygon from making eye contact with the vicious grin emanating from Axew.

As Axew realized his attack had been ineffective, he instead began to run around as the blasts of sound continued to trail behind him, intentionally missing by only a hair. Not realizing this, Axew made almost no counterattacks, instead hopping from rock to keep out of reach. Axion was impressed with the effectiveness of the attack, palming a super ball in his right hand. its shell felt warm against his hand as the last of the sonic boom attacks ended. The dust cloud had encompassed the entire field, the trainer having problems sighting either of the two combatants. Even Makina and Aria seemed to be paying more attention to the onslaught of activity that had become obscured by the dust storm.

Just as the first specks of dust were beginning to settle on the rocks and other debris scattered throughout the tormented battlefield, a new sound erupted from the center. The leftover dust cloud almost appeared to disintegrate as the harsh yowl spread, causing Axion to flinch at the sheer volume of the round. As his eyes finally managed to decipher the spontaneously cleared battlefield, he saw both Axew and Flygon still conscious. Flygon was flapping his wings idly, seeming quite excited and triumphant at his successful completion of the strategy. Axew on the other hand was almost gasping for air, apparently on his last legs.

Axion drew his arm back, halting as the ball and his hand sat behind his back. It was this moment that he always loved, the moment of capture. The excitement and expectation that had built up to this singular moment. It was all down to luck at this point as the blue camouflage super ball flew towards Axew.

OOC: You mentioned leaving after Axew, so closing after this post.

Seeing that Axew was still standing, Axion wasted no time in attempting to capture the small Dragon Pokemon. The Trainer lobbed a Superball forward, and Axew was sucked inside the capture device. Despite being quite weak, the Ball still shook about quite fiercely.

Everyone present eyed the shaking sphere warily, surprised that Axew was still giving off quite a fight. It had seemed nearly dead on its feet, so the capture should have been almost immediate. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the Supeball finally went still and gave a soft click.

And Axew makes three,” Makina said, retrieving the Ball and pocketing it along with the other two. “Flygon looks ready to pass out at this rate, and we don't seem to have any luck encountering any diggers for your team. We should probably head out.” Seeing that Axion was already preparing to recall his Pokemon, the Ranger gave a nod and gave the signal to Aria to Teleport them home. It had been a long day for everyone, yet there was still much to do.
