Coming to the URPG this Summer... ?

Events are a key component to what the URPG is about. From tournaments to story competitions to massive FFA's, the URPG events are chance for members of the community to test their skills with and against each other.

Since 2003, the URPG has always been a part of a major event highlighting the free and wild summer months. During the summer, URPG members tend to have more free time. Activity increases by several times and you can't move an inch without running into a URPG battle or a member writing a story or some sort of contest going on. People, after seasons of school, finally have time to play.

This year we don't have anything major planned... yet. Neither for BMG nor PE2K.

So I would like to open the floor up to your ideas. Would you be interested in a major URPG event this summer and if so, what would you like it to include? Don't worry. No matter how wacky the idea is, you can post it. Goodness knows how many URPG vets have a few screws loose (ask Bob Dole).

 

Um, I think we just need a noobie tornament. One open to April 15th+ers maybe? Other than that I got nothing.....


Edit: Wacky idea1: A story competition for stories that are about the new region/pokemon. Maybe one where you have to catch a 5th gen poke, then the winner gets it when BW comes out in America, with some pluses like fully TMed?

 

Here's an idea: an elimination tournament on the forums. That will give users without AIM a chance to compete.

 

Well actually, most tornaments are done like that. The people with AIM use AIM, and those wittout use forums. On Pe2K there having a NU torny, and many of those battle are done on the forums

 

Not a bad idea, but full TM? that is pretty intense.


I think something along the lines of a drawling contest, a writing contest, and/or AMV contest. The drawling and writing, self explanatory, but the AMV contest would be one that the video would be about Pokemon *duh* and maybe a theme picked. The best one wins.

OH, and all the contests must have a summer theme ex: swimming pools, ice cream, relaxing, vacation, the beach, etc. *I don't know what other countries do during their summer, but that's what I do during my summer in America*

 

Seconded. Elimination tournaments are always a lot of fun.

How about a two-forum-wide story competition for URPG officials in which the non-officials decide what to write about, and award points to their favorites in a bracketed, round-by-round style similar to the NWC? And not just for the Graders - all officials of the URPG are allowed to compete. There should be enough people that way to support the brackets.

I don't know, I just figured I'd switch it up a bit.

 

Im actually for the idea of a drawling contest. Maybe a contest were you have to draws yourself catching the target pokemon. A picture tells 10k characters!

 

Random idea time.

1) A week where money is doubled in earnings.

2) 1-day limited edition Mart mon(s) (No Scyther, Porygon, Rotom, etc.)

3) Nickname Cast-Away. (Members post nicknames of their Pokemon along with the species, and the 3 most creative could get a prize of some sort)

That's all I got. These are all I was able to think of while flying high.

The banner contest occurs every summer, right?

How about a planned day where we try to get a lot of people online, and have an AIM auction and FFA? I call reffing it, though.

Edit: And a live AIM tournament; it should be finished in a few hours, instead of weeks like forum tournaments.

It is quite possible to have multiple suggestions implemented here at the same time, or rather, spread out given that summer is not a short period of time.

The more ideas we have, and the more people willing to help out and make them work, the more events we can host.

 

1) That's a little extreme, maybe one DAY when things are half price at the mart. :lol:

2) Rotation would be better :kawaii:

3) Who would be able to judge that correctly? Some Japanese girls? I don't think so. :XD:

I'll think of some later. Tournaments would be cool though. Among other things!!!

 

I reaaaally like all of these ideas; I second all of them. =D

 

Perhaps also an FFA themed day?

There could be several FFAs going on at once with say like 8 people in them and then the top four go into another FFA with all the winners and so on and so forth with possible prizes. so like a tourney basically

Also perhaps a day where all the refs try to come up with their own FFA rules and a ton of members go from FFA to FFA and vote on best rules? prizes for like originality and most fun and such could happen

Also maybe random FFAs with like a preset of mons where winners are rewarded with their mon or something

and I brought it up a while ago and it was sort of in the middle, but with the increase in story writers maybe a Story FFA? like an hour to write a story on a mon and 1 or 2 graders go through and pick the best and the winners get money and they can still post their stories to be graded.

Another Festival except on AIM could work if DG/an excellent Judge would do one.

I don't know about THAT one, it could easily be cheated one. If you know when it's going to start, then you can plan ahead accordingly and already have something written. So maybe make it a suprise?

Maybe a gym leader/dojo tournement where the gym leaders of the PE2K and the dojo leaders of BMG get together and do a tourny?

What about the national park? Maybe they can do a special event where you go and like an FFA/the Main RP you do your RP with multiple RPers and rangers, but on AIM so everything moves a lot faster? (I don't know)

A story competition tournement. First you write one story and submit it (like a done story) then the top (I don't I'll guess) 10 move one, they make another completed story in like 1 or 2 weeks, then the top 5 move on, ect., then the top 3, ect., then the winner is chosen and the prize should be like a complex mon. + 15k and a daycare pass only becuase you'd have to have writtne about 3-4 stories by then in a months time or so.

Who knows?

 

I think if the parameters are set specific enough, it won't be easily cheated. For example: Write a story for Vigoroth set on Cinnabar island mid-eruption.

 

I'd like to suggest 2 things.
1) A tournament, very standard, nothing special since everyone's new to the URPG here.

2) A Giveaway, since we've never had one here and we don't know how it is!
