    Welcome back to Pifhr.

There will be a total of 10 Tourney FFAs throughout this month, with each awarding points to the participants. The longer your Pokemon last, the more points and money you get. For example, in a battle of 15 Pokemon, 1st place gets 15 points, while 2nd place gets 14, third place gets 13, and so on. The pay remains as 1,000 for the first 3 out and an additional 500 for each Pokemon out after. Points accumulate from your 7 highest-scoring FFAs giving freedom to miss one or two and still win.

Unlike the last FFA Tourney, the ref of each FFA earns the same points as the person who comes in third place, while receiving the usual ref pay. Each ref can only ref a maximum of three FFAs though. So if you want to ref some and get some nifty points, post in this thread along with the dates and times that suit you.

    The Prizes:

SUPREME OVERLORD OF PIFHR (1st): any Complex or lower Pokemon
Devious Diplomats of Pifhr (2nd and 3rd): any Hard or lower Pokemon
Grand Generals of Pifhr (4th and 5th): any Medium or lower Pokemon
Court Jester (16th): any Easiest or lower (Husnain) Pokemon [don't try to compete for this xD]

You sign up for the tourney as soon as you enter any of the Tourney FFAs, so there's no need to post here saying you want to join. Post in here if you have any special rule suggestions or if you are a reliable ref who would like to ref one, two or three FFAs and don't plan on pulling a mubz. Anyone can post here to suggest times that work best for them and to discuss the tourney as it progresses.

Just a note: Teaming and backstabbing never hurt your chances of winning ;-)

    Pitfall Trap FFA

    Free-For-All
    Revolution
    No Items
    No Sleep Moves (bar Rest)
    No Evasion
    No Perish Song
    Hit One
    No Intimidate
    No Encore
    No Redirect
Acupressure and Helping Hand can target others
Illusion Pokemon can randomly disguise themselves at the beginning
Every Pokemon starts off at 75% with a Substitute, Shedninja starts at 100% with a Substitute.

Special Rule: At the start of every turn a randomly-rolled Pokemon that can fall into the pitfall trap will fall into it. The Pitfall trap breaks a Substitute upon entry, or if the Pokemon lacks a Substitute, they are hit by Stealth Rocks, three layers of spikes and two layers of Toxic Spikes. Pokemon are released from the Pitfall trap at the end of the turn. Pokemon that have fallen into the trap cannot be attacked and cannot attack other Pokemon while they are in the trap (they can still use non-attacking moves, however). If a Pokemon in the trap uses Rapid Spin, the hazards will be removed from within the trap permanently or until someone in the trap sets entry hazards down there again. If a Poison type falls into the trap, they absorb Toxic Spikes (even if they have a Substitute).

Pokemon with Levitate or the Flying type cannot fall into the pitfall trap while they are still flying/levitating. Gravity comes into play every third turn (before trapped Pokemon has been rolled). Protect does not prevent a Pokemon from falling into the trap. Bouncing, digging, diving or flying Pokemon cannot fall into the trap.

    Decoy FFA

    Free-For-All
    Revolution
    No Held Items
    Building Terrain
    Normal Weather
    Hit All Hit One
Evasion moves, Sleep moves (bar Rest), Perish Song, Encore, Intimidate fails
    No Redirection
Acupressure and Helping Hand can target others
Illusion Pokémon can randomly disguise themselves at the beginning
Exceeding the given send time limits results in KO at the start of the turn

    Special Rule (originally Pidge's rule)
All Pokémon begin with a free decoy (Substitute) at 25% health. The decoy can be any legendary Pokémon (knows all moves it can learn) and the decoy will work like a normal Substitute. When calculating damage received, the decoy's type/ability/stats/etc will be used. You are allowed to use Substitute with your original Pokémon, even if you already have a decoy (legendary Pokémon). The free decoy takes precedence over a properly created Substitute. Obviously, your decoy is unable to use Substitute.

During each turn, you may choose to send using either your original Pokémon, or using your decoy. If you send a move using your decoy and your decoy dies, your Pokémon will be reffed as "Pokémon is too shocked to move!". Note that your decoy is able to use moves that boost its own stats and will be able to use moves that regain health as well. However, the decoy's health is capped at 25% of the selected legendary Pokémon's max HP. You may choose to target your own decoy using your original Pokémon for whatever reasons, and moves like Psych Up will work as well (since Substitute doesn't prevent it).

    Additional Notes
-Speed order is always determined by your regular Pokémon's Speed
-Moves like Recover would heal the decoy's health up to the capped level of 25%, since Recover originally heals the user by 1/2 of its maximum HP.
-Moves like Water Spout would work as followed: Base Power = 150 * (User's Current HP which would be 25% of max HP / User's Maximum HP), rounded down, but not less than 1.
-Trace will only work on regular Pokémon.

    ★ ★ ★

The FFA started off with Mewtwo using Skill Swap on its own decoy to swap Pressure and Multiscale. Most Pokemon set up immediately with Substitute and stat-raising moves, while Winter's Decoy Arceus disappeared and became invulnerable, before destroying Lucario's decoy next turn with Shadow Force. On the third turn, the Sun began to shine with effect once again, as Decoy Rayquaza was shattered by a Dragon Claw, thus removing Air Lock. By the fourth turn, half of the players have already began shattering decoys by decoys. The very same Arceus continued to use Shadow Force two other times, and would become an important player throughout the FFA.

On the fifth turn, a total of 4 players were eliminated, and Akinai's Scrafty had started to power up silently by performing decisive kills that activated Moxie. As majority of the Pokemon now have a bunch of statups, various Pokemon have began using Psych Up to copy over the boosts. Like Arceus, Hannah's Decoy Arceus-Steel was also busy taking out multiple decoys with a barrage of Seismic Toss. One of it had destroyed Ash's Decoy Manaphy, which would allow Scrafty to KO with a Crunch on the next turn. It had became apparent that those who chose to stat up using their decoy Pokemon usually lose out to those that focus on their regular Pokemon (bar Psych Up users).

Once Rayquaza was taken down, Air Lock was no longer in play and the Sun was shining brightly. This enabled a large amount of damage boost for Fire-type moves, and allowed the numerous KOs that had targeted the five tanky Metagross(es). Oh and at some point, Liam's Starmie was being piled by moves for like 3-4 turns consecutively. It took attacks like a boss with Def+3, SpDef+5, and screens. At some point, Winter's Decoy Arceus had even used Punishment on Starmie, but it refused to die. What a fucking twat. It died soon enough later though.

As it came down to approximately 10 Pokemon remaining, only Muddy's Electivire, Winter's Metagross, Nitro's Metagross, Maxie's Ampharos, and Syn's Slowbro still had their decoy intact. Scrafty is now the weakest of all, due to it only having raised Attack and Speed stats. A couple of decoys were shattered, and Nitro's Metagross went down with a Sun-boosted Flamer. Sky Lark's Metagross was about to be taken down too, but thanks to well-timed Rest and Protect, it actually managed to stay alive for a couple more turns, forcing others to go down first. In the process, Scrafty was paralyzed by Ampharos' Static after using Drain Punch, and was prompty brought to waste as well.

At a seemingly perfect timing, Sky Lark's Metagross used Psychic to take out Ampharos while getting attacked itself, but this enabled it to move its spot up by 2, since Ampharos and Scrafty had died on that turn. Metagross continued to stall with Protect for another turn, before opting for Rest on the next, and pushed its position up another spot, by KOing Electivire in its sleep with a Sleep Talk Psychic. Just when everyone thought Metagross was finally going to die, it used Rest at the perfect timing again, and continued to survive the barrage of attacks. On the next two turns however, it finally died to Slowbro's Flamethrower.

Starting from there as well, Lanturn had already began targeting Winter's Metagross with Electro Ball (was paralyzed earlier by a Thunder Wave). Winter's Metagross was thus taken out soon enough, and that left Syn and SLC. Syn chose to forfeit even though his Slowbro was left completely intact from the start of the FFA along with its decoy, and thus SLC wins the second tourney FFA.

    Special Rule:
    Deathmatch

Battle will last 15 12 turns.
KOing another Pokémon earns you 2 points.
Being KO'd loses you 1 point.
KO'd Pokémon respawn and re-enter the battle at the end of the next turn.
Respawned Pokémon cannot be targetted directly on the turn after spawning.

Tied places will be decided by sudden death: Non-tied positions will be removed or remain KO'd at the end of Turn 15. Tied participants will continue until KO'd to break their ties. Sooner out, lower position.
    ---
Example: A Pokémon is KO'd on Turn 1. They respawn for the end of Turn 2 stats and send for Turn 3. During Turn 3 they cannot be targetted directly, but can still be affected by field effects such as Trick Room and Haze, or targetted by random-target attacks such as by Metronome.
    ---
    FAQ:
KO'd Pokémon lose all their stat boosts.
Destiny Bond does earn points for KOing another Pokémon.
Suicide moves such as Explosion and Final Gambit do lose you a point for being KO'd.
Sand and hail do not award points for KO's.

    ---

A horror to ref. Twenty participants who don't stay dead. Recoil moves everywhere. Forfeits and questions all over the place. @[email protected]
The first turn started with a surprising amount of substitutes and support moves, with only a few KO's. Accelgor began a campaign of Final Gambits to safely edge forward on the scores.
Many participants focused on the same targets throughout the battle, attempting to KO weakened targets and take the points for doing so. At first faster Pokémon with priority took them, with Ninetales gaining a quick lead and holding it with alternating Protects. Togekiss and Arcanine gained many with ExtremeSpeed. Once Trick Room was up, some slower Pokémon managed to gain a few KO's in return. Chandelure generally KO'd Metagross every turn it was attackable.
The length and slowness took their toll as people started to forfeit each turn, and questions on scoring rose as the FFA neared the end. The turns were reduced from 15 to 12 by consensus for everyones' general health.
    Needs more rules.
The final turn set the top scorers in an easy row, but ambiguity exists over placement of forfeits and non-send disqualification.
Post-game discussion over forfeit penalty arrived thusly: -1 point in addition to any points lost from being KO'd during turn of forfeit, placed lower than non-forfeits when tied. Disqualification for not sending gives no extra point penalty beyond being KO'd twice, and places lower than forfeits.

The Hunger Games. Each Player must offer up one of their Pokemon as tribute in the Annual Hunger Games! Due to the nature of The Reaping, the Pokemon is selected at random, rolled from the player’s stats. All rolls are non-refundable! All Pokemon start with a free Substitute. May the odds be ever in your favor!

To be honest, much of the FFA was determined by the crucial first roll of selecting the Pokemon - some people were better off, and some people weren't. However, every player fought hard, and it was an intense FFA!There were turns of general ineffectiveness, and then there were turns of 4 or 5 Pokemon being taken out instantly. Charizard, Durant, and Hypno were immediate targets. Charizard had a hard time staying alive due to several Pokemon having Head Smash, so it fell quickly. Quagsire was hit by Ambi’s Seed Bomb, and Typhlosion fell to Jolteon’s Thunder/Durant’s Dig. Hypno was attacked repeatedly by Ambipom, Garchomp, and Sandslash, and it couldn’t really stand up to all the attacks. Rampardos fell to Scizor’s Iron Head, and Durant fell soon afterwards to Ambipom’s Fire Punch. Lucario didn’t live much longer either, being taken out by both Mienshao and Darmanitan. Mienshao and Nidoking were both taken out by Garchomp and Sandslash (with some help from Blaziken). Scizor fell after it accidentally used Air Slash instead of Wing Attack on Blaziken, with Ambipom/Scrafty finishing up the job. Darmanitan broke the apparent “team truce” early and was ended promptly, but not before taking down the already weakened Blaziken. Lickilicky was the only unaligned Pokemon, so it was also ended immediately. Ambipom fell to a combination of Mach Punch from Breloom and Hi Jump Kick from Scrafty, and Sandslash fell from a combination of Ice Punch, Seed Bomb, and Giga Drain. The already weakened Scrafty was out next, and it ultimately came down to the fact that Garchomp outsped/had a sub, so it was able to finish Breloom with ease. Good game!

A random Pokemon starts out with a bomb. That bomb can be passed by the holder to a target instead of using a move. After (1-3) turns, the bomb explodes causing a random effect:

    Healing (25%, 50%, 100%)
    Damaging (25%, 50%, 99.99%)
Random Status (BRN, FRZ, PAR, PSN, TOX, SLP, CON)

    New bomb appears after detonation.

The holder of the bomb is public knowledge, but the bomb's effects/duration are unknown.

    ---

    • Bomb acts as an attack, but hits through Substitute.
    • Substitute does not block a Status bomb.
    • Protect/Detect/Invulnerability blocks being passed the bomb.
    • Snatch/Me First takes the bomb if it is being passed.
    • Trick/Switcheroo/Thief/Covet being used on the bomb's holder takes the bomb, if the holder has not yet passed the bomb.

    ---

Ok so it took 4 and a half hours. That doesn't mean it wasn't fun. At least a little. Mostly because of the Bombs.

After the initial forfeit from Ditto, it seemed like it would be a fast-paced FFA. Gengar went down, followed by Togekiss, Espeon and Krookodile. Ash and Knitty had basically been Metronoming the entire FFA (Ash actually stole the bomb once with a RNG'd Thief), and got taken out promptly after Krook went down. Akinai's Zong looked like it was doing well, but got wiped out by a pile.

Somewhere around here, Akinai crashed my computer by using Heavy Slam. GG, Zong B.

Then came the part where nothing happened. Well, that's a lie. Steelix dug underground and caused Mienshao to miss a HJK, and Empleon fell to a Drain Punch, but that was pretty much it for the longest time.

Girafarig, Starmie, and Gallade consistently took things down, until Gallade got KOd by Ataro's prized Normal-type.

Ampharos, who had been paralyzed with a Bomb, personified this entire thing. Paralyzed half the time, and the other half it missed with Thunder. Then, the Bomb killed it with a massive explosion.

So, finally, it was Girafarig, Starmie, and Winter's Zong. They duked it out for a little bit, and then Girafarig and Starmie stalled, letting Zong get blown up by a Bomb.

Girafarig vs Starmie turned out to be closer than you'd expect, given the massive boosts on Ataro's Pokemon. But what really cinched it was a well-timed Bomb explosion that put Starmie just in range to be KOd by Crunch.

Shadow FFA: All Pokémon that either were Shadow Pokémon in Colosseum or XD: Gale of Darkness or evolved from such a Pokémon are Shadow Pokémon. The list can be found here: List of Shadow Pokémon - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia For example, Lugia would be a Shadow Pokémon because it was Shadow in XD. Meganium would be a Shadow Pokémon because Bayleef was in Colosseum. Charizard would not because Charmander, Charmeleon, and Charizard have never been Shadow Pokémon. Chikorita would not because it evolves into Bayleef, not from Bayleef. Shadow type moves and mechanics all go by the way they worked in XD: Gale of Darkness where it conflicts with Colosseum. This means that Shadow type moves are Super Effective against ANYTHING that ISN'T a Shadow type but Not Very Effective against other Shadow types. Shadow Rush is 50 power with no recoil. All Pokémon know the Shadow moves they or their preevolution had in those games in addition to their normal moves. They do NOT have the purification SMs/TMs/BMs/MTs unless you have purchased them.
You are not required to send a Shadow Pokémon.
Shadow Shed works on all Pokémon, similar to Haze.
    Shadow moves don't get STAB.
    Shadow Half is banned.

Forum - Shadows of a Tournament FFA

And on that day, there was a huge outrage about Shadow Half, no one sent a Pokémon that learned Shadow Half even when it was allowed, and not a single Shadow move was used for the entire FFA :'( When I think of cool special rules you could at least utilize them :x Synthesis could've won with his Hustle Togekiss but instead he forfeited so SLC could kill us all...

I'd like to ref two or three FFA's to help with this. :) Like said on AIM, Saturday is probably best for me this week.
I can run Trap Dungeon and another arena, and maybe a non-arena FFA. :)

    This is badass.

I'm willing to ref one or more FFA's. I'm basically available all weekdays after 5 PM my time (about an hour from this post I'm too lazy to figure out timezones) and don't plan on pulling a Mubz. I'll try and figure out some special rules and ask you for clearance!

Sure, I'll ref a FFA or two. And I'm available at random times. Basically as long as I'm not working, which is every other week.

EDIT: Nevermind, my boss wants me to work every week for this month, so no reffing for me.

I can probably ref some of these as well. I'm going to be free all the time except this Tuesday and Thursday until about 5 or 6 EST, which is like 10 or 11 GMT if I'm thinking correctly. I can do pretty much any day or time other than those two this week.

I have an idea for a special rule :)

When you send, you must choose either offence (start with ATK/SPATK+1) or defence (start with DEF/SPDEF+1). If an offensive player KOs a defensive player, all offensive players get a stat boost of their choice (and vice versa for defensive players)

I was thinking about doing an Avengers FFA and I guess this would be a good excuse for it. My thoughts so far:

    Captain America: Att/Def/Spe+1
Iron Man: Allowed to replace one of your types with Steel (gain all resistances and STAB and so forth). Single type Pokemon do not get two types
    Black Widow: Eva+1 Def/SpD-1
Hulk: When knocked below 20%, gain att+4
Thor: All electric attacks have 1.5x BP, cannot miss, and cannot be blocked by Protect.
Hawkeye: Can hit Pokemon behind a substitute as though the sub wasn't there. Att/SpA-1

Let me know if you have any better ideas for the "powers" or if any of them seem overpowered.

I don't know whether any of them are overpowered per se but I wouldn't consider them all equal. Captain America and Thor are both quite useful and potentially broken, but the others have nothing on them really. Hulk is easily the worst as once under 20% most people rather try and heal or Protect stall. With Black Widow evasion's pretty horrible and best to avoid doing. Captain America hitting through subs is good but too crippled by lowered attacks to be very effective similar to BW's crippling lowered defenses. Iron Man's is interesting but nothing compared to Thor's or Captain America.

Okay yea I sorta thought that just giving a free Eva+1 and Hawkeye's abilities were too good but I could always just remove the Def/SpD and Att/SpA drops. For the hulk one, maybe instead something like above 50% you get SpA+2/3 but below 50% that boost becomes Att+2/3?

I made some edits here that may balance it a bit. I don't know about Captain America being broken. Imo, Thor and Hawkeye were. Hawkeye might still be.

I'm post the special rules I'd like to use, for help balancing, getting approval and so folks can prepare if they so choose.

FFA #1: Teams & Classes Trap Dungeon

Besides the usual FFA rules, Trap Dungeon is an Arena with a random event table, as shown below.
    Trap Dungeon

    Terrain: Building.
    Terrain starts with 100 Atk/SpAtk
A random event occurs at the end of every 2nd turn, starting on Turn 2.
Moves and bonus will hit three random Pokémon.

    Random events:
(1-25) Loot! Terrain bonus: The Pokemon finds and may take a random item.
Roll a 20-sided die: Lum Berry (1-7), Sitrus Berry (8-12), Expert Belt (13), Life Orb (14), Leftovers (15), Black Sludge (16), Focus Band (17), Iron Ball (18), Light Clay (19), Ring Target (20).
If a player is holding an item and finds loot, they may swap or consume their item as appropriate.
Loot dissolves on leaving the arena. No keeps!
(26-45) Alarm! Rate of terrain move increases by one. At once per turn this becomes Terrain move: Poison Sting.
(46-65) Trap! Terrain move: Poison Sting.
    (66-75) Stairs! Terrain Atk/SpAtk doubles, i.e. 100, 200, 400. At 400 Atk/SpAtk, this becomes Terrain move: Flame Burst.
(76-85) Trap! Terrain move: Flame Burst.
(86-95) Pressure plate! Roll a 6-sided die. Next terrain move will hit: six random Pokémon (1-2), nine random Pokémon (3-4), twelve random Pokémon (5) or all Pokémon (6).
(96-100) Trap! Terrain move: attacked by Stealth Rock. Substitutes take damage for Pokémon for this outcome.

For a Team version, folks would be divided into roughly equal teams of 3-5 people, depending on how many send for it. There could be two teams, three teams, it depends on numbers.
Folks can ask for one specific person to be on the same team as, such as their partner or BFF. Must be mutual.

Everyone starts with 100% health and a free Substitute.
Moves that benefit a whole team in regular play benefit the whole team here, such as screens, Tailwind, Heal Bell, etc.
When one team is remaining, that team wins, and remaining winnings are divided equally between surviving members, maybe with a $500 per enemy team bonus for all winning team members, KO'd or not? Like $500 if two teams, $1,000 if three teams, etc.?

    The classes would be RPG-style:
Fighter (Tank): Free access to and enabling of redirect moves (Follow Me, Rage Powder), Quick Guard and Wide Guard. Starts with Def/SpDef+1.
Cleric (Healer): Free access to Reflect, Light Screen, Heal Pulse, Heal Bell. +1 Priority on healing moves, including Heal Pulse and Heal Bell.
Mage (Special Attacker): Free access to Ally Switch, Magic Coat, rooms (Magic, Trick, Wonder). Starts with SpAtk/SpDef+1.
Rogue (Physical Attacker): Free access to Feint, Trick, Thief. Starts with Atk/Eva+1.
Bard (Nuisance): Free access to and enabling of Encore, Sing, Uproar. Acc/Eva+1.
More? Open to suggestions, or redistributing abilities.

Players choose their classes after teams sorted, no more than one of each per team, with a time limit before they're randomly assigned.
    Public teams.

    ---

    FFA #2: Deathmatch!

    No Arena.
    Twelve Fifteen turns.
Respawn at the end of turn next turn when KO'd.
Being KO'd for not sending still allows respawn.
KOing something +2 points, being KO'd -1 point.
    Positions by points.

    Pitfall Trap FFA

    Revolution

Strategy tips: Smack Down, Gravity, Role Play and Skill Swap are useful moves for this FFA. It is wise to choose Pokemon not weak to entry hazards.

You have three hours from this post before Pokemon are accepted into the arena. Use this time to choose your Pokemon, purchase necessary EMs, strategise, form alliances and ask me any questions you have about this FFA.

    Good luck.

Edit: To clarify, the person who falls in the trap will be rolled before you send moves. Falling into the trap might be a blessing in disguise!
