Letting older members challenge defeats the purpose completely imo. It's so they can get a feel for gyms while only being challenged by other members in their same skill range. If older members were allowed to challenge it might discourage them.

If after a half a year or so, new members should probably be on par with most of our average players anyway, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Likely they will have been battling and challenging gyms and such from older members anyway. It's our job to teach them to be ready. I just threw it out there because it would be a shame to create a rift or any type of negative feelings, since back in the day that issue was brought up a bit.

I actually don't mind the idea of eventually opening the dojos for everyone but I'd probably wait a while to do it. I dunno how long, I just don't want a whole 'nother weird forum rivalry thing that I never understood to begin with... Yeah, whatever we need to avoid that.

How exactly are the new members who have been here only 6 months going to be on par with the other members? I'm not sure people stop advancing and getting better after a certain time. They're still going to be overwhelmed most of the time, because remember, it's not only going to be the "average" players challenging them. It would be open to anyone, from the new members to the E4, so I'm not really sure what that would accomplish.

And in addition to that, what of the members who join after it's been going on for a few months? If someone got a dojo after they've been around for 5 months, then in a month they open to everyone, that person will have a terrible record unless they're some kind of prodigy. If we're going to open up the league to every URPGer, then there's no point in having a league at all. We have that already.

There's nothing to say we're even going to have enough members interested to have a league /shrugs. Opening or leaving it closed to only newbies, it won't matter if there's not enough people. Probably best to decide once it actually happens.

Well yeah, but if there's not enough then there's simply not enough. Right now, while we're still only in speculation, the Dojo League at TPW is a best case scenario. If we get a full 16 dojo league, fantastic. If we only get half, that's ok. I doubt we don't have enough for a partial league, but if we don't, so be it. You're right though, it'll probably have to be trial and error. We can ultimately decide on it once it's been tried out a bit.

At this point, I was thinking I wouldn't even reveal the available "dojos" until a month after they join. Wait two weeks, see how many we have around, then pick a number of "dojos". Start a poll, have them vote on which types they'd like to see the most. Then pick types based on that result.

I don't remember this at all ._.

If you want a theme, you could focus it more on the "elemental" types. Leave out things like Flying and Dragon and stick with Fire, Water, Electric, Ground etc etc.\

EDIT: As for the "open to all members" thing, having our league exclusive for a full year was way too long. I'd be in favour of a defined time at which they open to everyone, eg half way through (3 months or 6 months depending on length). That would be only for people to challenge though - no-one who had joined before TPW would be eligible to defend a dojo.

What? No. Non-TPW members can't challenge. That defeats the whole purpose of it ._.

I think it's best if they vote for what Types they want. Or maybe have them all open and see how many get taken exactly. Others can close depending on numbers.

I don't mind either way - but it definitely shouldn't last for a full year the way ours did. And if they could challenge, no defending or Dojo Master title allowed.

Yeah, I think 6 months is a good mark, as long as they actually battle, unlike the rest of the URPG. We need to start battling a lot from now on to show them that battling is good and they should definitely do it.

The original Dojo League allowed anyone who joined the URPG after a certain set point in time to participate. In other words, new Pe2K and new BMG members.

It just so happened that the majority of new URPGers were on Bulbagarden.

Ok so here I am sitting on the toilet where I do my best thinking and I came up with an awesome idea.

There'll be 8 Dojos, take 16 types (minus Dark) and each Dojo will have 2 types! I totally call dibs on the Water/Electric Dojo ;o
