Got a Moody Smeargle on my first time reffing, which was interesting. Miltank did a surprisingly good job handling Charizard despite being burnt, but then Tyrantrum came in and between its Dragon Dance and some unkind randomized sends for Weir, the dinosaur cleaned shop.

Grimer is OP, GameFreak please nerf. Seriously, though, Grimer had TM Fire Punch and it got a Memento off on Marshtomp, which stacked things against Ralin's team pretty badly.

The RNG kept sending absolutely terrible matchups out at the Infernape, who had gotten in Stealth Rocks and a Power-Up Punch, for much of the match. By the time Weir was able to put some better-suited Pokemon on the field, the gap was pretty dang insurmountable.

Mimikyu was at +2 and then +4 ATK for most of the battle, even managing to copy a Meteor Mash from Clefable and get another attack rise at the very end. It was hurting by the end, but its variety and volume of EMs allowed it to sweep.

I get $4,000 and an object lesson in not messing with a NUKEM Mimikyu.

Things were pretty even for most of the battle, with Soulmaster even leading a bit early on. Then Minior came back in and with its Weakness Policy and an Ancient Power boost, it did a surprising amount of cleaning and Weir was able to finish things off with Porygon-Z's SATK at a powerful +3.

I get $4,000 and some humility regarding my reffing skills.

Hitmonlee played itself right off the bat with a High Jump Kick recoil that set it up for a KO. Weir was rolling randoms and after that the RNG selected Pokemon that Swampert countered naturally. Talonflame put up a good fight, but Dragonite finished it off handily.

A pretty even match throughout. All the Water-types made me feel like I was on some sort of bizarre ocean adventure. Weir pulled off a pretty cool Final Gambit with Accelgor and Dicebot tried to send Lapras multiple times.

Politoed managed to be really annoying with its Drizzle ability, and when Garchomp was up against Metagross Shock forgot about Earthquake and the rain that Politoed had haunted the battlefield with. Despite this, it was a pretty even match, and Shock managed to pull through.

I get $2,000 and called Flavortown again.

Chimchar and Cubone did a mini basics match at the beginning before the grownups came in and fought it out. Not much to say about this one except a PSA: never let a Volcarona get two Quiver Dances off, kids.

The battle was pretty much the normal back-and-forth until Whimsicott got in and managed to PAR Froslass right away. Because it was randoms, Julio ended up not getting any Pokemon who could slay this powerful beast before it had set up to a ludicrous degree (two Growths and a Cotton Guard) and forfeited in the end.

Seeing Zoroarks in public sends always cracks me up. Weir had a pretty solid advantage for much of the battle due to some advantageous sends, and Alolan Muk did its best to reverse it, but Ralin wasn’t able to close the gap in the end.

Metagross did a fair bit of sweeping, but Morru made up ground with his Dragon-Dance’d Charizard. Morru did well even though he was limiting himself to a Rival Blue theme, but after his Charizard was KO'd, Dragonite was able to finish things handily.

Got to ref what I’m pretty sure was Dog’s first battle, which is cool. Dog did their best and got lucky with a Thunder Fang PAR from Rockruff, but Monferno’s advanced evolution stage plus the type matchups gave it a massive advantage.

Smeargle started the battle out by being annoying and then things went downright deadly when it Baton Passed +3 Attack and +4 Speed onto Tyrantrum. By the time Empoleon and Metagross managed to land a couple of priority attacks on Tyrantrum, the dinosaur had nearly ripped up Jake’s entire team. Gray memed hard at the end with an Imprison+Transform combo on Metagross.

Randoms was on, and because Cloyster was Shell Smashed, the rest of the battle was pretty painful for Ash. Starmie Psyched Up Cloyster and Mamoswine got some dang good rolls, which made Monbrey fight hard for the win.

Today's lesson: don't ref two battles and coordinate in three contests at the same time. On the plus side, the battle was pretty cool; there was a Galvantula duel in it. Dragonite and Dusknoir put up a fight, but Dragonite's paralysis got it killed and Dusknoir's early-on burn put some severe limits on its capabilities.

Things were pretty sweep-ish for most of the match, with Aggron and Metagross chewing up the competition. Then Dragonite came out and got a Dragon Dance off and started handling things to the point where it looked like Ralin wold be able to reverse things entirely. Unfortunately, it was already weakened, and Jake's Dragonite was able to take it down and finish off Kabutops, who'd been forced to switch early on.

Randoms were enabled and Gray rolled Rayquaza on the first try. He swapped it out when Clefable came out, but after Rayquaza came back and brought its attack up, things just turned into a complete sweep. Today I fully appreciated just how OP Mega Rayquaza is.
