This was a fun fight! Eevee got a bit of a lead early on, but then hit the brick wall that is Minior plus two Shell Smashes and an Ancient Power boost. For those concerned, Minior is Indigo and Vivillon is Modern.

Gray set up Stealth Rocks early and then both battlers did a metric ton of switching. That attrition ended up hurting Eevee fairly badly. SE put up a good fight with what they had, but those rocks and Gray's priority moves got the better of them.

Mightyena did away with A-Marowak pretty neatly, but then Espeon was able to get set up on Torracat with a couple of Calm Minds. After that, it was an absolute monster against LG's special-oriented 'mons.

A pretty good fight, but Ash's Mandibuzz kept the pressure on between some setup and its Overcoat ability protecting it from the cold. Vespiquen did a pretty cool trick with Destiny Bond, though. The hail allowed Ash to get an attrition kill off on Ampharos.

The dice had an absolute field day with this one. Gray’s Dragonite got frozen by an Ice Beam; Garchomp got burned by a Flare Blitz, it was wild. In seriousness, things were a pretty good back-and-forth until Gray Baton Passed a +2 SPD, +2 ATK onto Azumarill, then had the thing use Belly Drum. It was pretty much unkillable after that, by virtue of killing everything else preemptively.

Both sides went hog-wild with switching at the beginning, but SE did a lot more of it, and this enabled Weir to put a lot more pressure on their team. Talonflame cleaned up shop with no regard for its moves’ recoil.

Today I learned how Encore interacts with Magic Coat! Seriously, though, this was a pretty good battle. Ash had control most of the time with some brutal move choices. It’s worth noting that Kangaskhan, Ash’s only non-flying Pokemon, was forced by a Roar.

Aerodactyl committed suicide-by-Ferrothorn, which was interesting to watch. Both battlers did pretty well, but Ralin’s use of Crobat against Galvantula created a gap that he just couldn’t close.

Randoms were on, but Scolipede still slammed down Beedrill with flinch hax Rock Slides. Weir Baton Passed +4 speed to Arcanine, whose ridiculous moveset combined with DP's unfavorable roles allowed it to do some insane sweeping. Scolipede came in to clean up at the end.

The teams were randomized, which made this an interesting affair to watch. Slowbro did a surprising amount of damage with a Calm Mind boost and some clever Trick Room usage against Ralin’s low-defense team and risky maneuvers. Castform did as well as can be expected from a Pokemon nicknamed “Boss Baby”.

This battle started off with some counterpicking to avoid hits from Ground-type moves. Aegislash tried to wall early, but Ambipom swapped in on the Resting sword and picked it off with Shadow Ball. The dice were pretty mean to Weir while he tried to wall with Slowbro, making a pretty important Thunder Wave miss and allowing Spiritomb to, unparalyzed, run roughshod over Incineroar with its Ground-type Hidden Power. Weir had some clever ideas at the end, but his two Pokemon to Xali’s counterpicked four didn’t have much chance of winning.

Did you know that Meteor Form Minior is immune to status conditions? Because it is. This has been a PSA. In all seriousness, though, randoms rolls weren’t too kind to Ralin with the exception of Minior. Spikes and a Magic Bounced Stealth Rock took a toll on his team, enabling Slowking to wipe out Gigalith and nearly take out Tyranitar with single hits. What could have been a recovery by Probopass was stonewalled when Clefable came out with Drain Punch, and by that point the gap was too great for Ralin to come back from it.

VM started out with a clever switch to Electivire to catch the Motor Drive boost from Jolteon's first attack, but Jolteon prompted another switch with Yawn. VM's switching and Morru's use of Baton Pass allowed Morru to do some strong counterpicking, which won him the match.

Trevenant did well with Sun+Sitrus Berry+Harvest, and the stat boosts that Blaziken had Baton Passed onto it allowed it to wreak havoc on much of QE’s team. Vibrava came out at the end to get that one last experience point before evolution/be brutally murdered by Excadrill. Also, Julio finally pointed out the section of the ref encyclopedia that deals with double KOs in a public battle that I've been trying to run down for a while, so that's nice.
