I know how this current grading process works. It's one of the main reason why I stopped.
There's a warning in my first post. It's always been there. You even made a comment in chat about it one year
For the same reason I joined: the challenge of catching Pokemon by writing. Nowadays, I have so much confidence in what I write that I don't need feedback to continue. All it does is delay my next story from being posted.

Hi! It's great to see some activity here.

@Jack of Clovers; Thanks for bringing up your concerns about grading. At nearly 70,000 characters, that's quite the piece you've got there, deserving of special attention and critique. As a seasoned writer and grader yourself, I know you can relate with how much energy is spent as a grader attempts to meet the time and effort the author put into a story with their own review. That level of quality and care in grades in this age is something I am so proud of in the URPG Story section. And while it may not align with the original purpose of writing a story to immediately capture a Pokemon the next day, what the Story Section has evolved into, as an entire system for improving writers' capabilities and talents, is so extraordinary to find on the Internet. And we're each so lucky to be a part of it.

I hope you can wait a little longer for your grade. You've got one of the best graders in the history of the game reviewing your work. If nothing changes within a week, then please feel free to directly VM/IM/PM myself and I will get to your grade. If you have any more questions or want to talk about the current situation of the Story Section, please also directly talk to me.

YASSS THIS, THIS IS THE NEW WAR <3

Well, hmmm... you triggered a key word and now I have to counter offer.

See, throughout the years there have been complaints of how long grades take. And every time the graders band together to defend the system, telling them that this is how the section works. So much so, that 'sorry' has lost it's apologetic meaning and become a standard lead in most grades.

I will not be sending any PM. Instead, if you choose, you will be sending me one. And you will only send it to me if you truly, seriously believe that there's something wrong in the stories section. Of course, if the graders and staff are completely and absolutely content, then I will receive nothing. Don't take this choice lightly.

Our conversation ends here. It'll be interesting to see what kind of response I get.

We aren't going to start forcing graders to do their jobs; they have lives. URPG is built on optional activity, and while that sucks sometimes a lot of the time there's really no way around it like with any game. The story section is also about creativity for both graders and writers alike. Smiles or any other grader can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that means we aren't going to suddenly force graders to just give "yes" or "no" answers. With all due respect, you are acting arrogant and I don't like it especially when it's directed at people who work hard to keep this section alive through droughts of activity. If you have constructive ideas, please post them, because I know that Smiles will hear you out.

Alright Jack, please continue to refresh the page then while the rest of us continue on our meaningful and productive activities here.

I do not apologize on behalf of our graders because of reasons so many of our best writers brought up here. Grading is an optional, albeit important, job on an Internet game. Most of our graders are busy with school, learning analysis skills that they directly bring into their work here. The graders of the past few years have put forth exceptional effort in completely changing the grading system - making the review itself much more meaningful for the author who then writes better because of that review. If you do not see the value in this system or understand the circumstances of those who choose to optionally partake in it, and do a fine job while they do so, then perhaps this is no longer the place for to come to.

I can't help but be a little disturbed by your "interest" in these responses. If you continue this conversation without any constructive criticism at hand, then I will formally see this as trolling and delete your posts. And again, if you have any potential solutions or want to talk about this in a more constructive space, please reach out to me as the Head of Stories. Thank you.

Ok back to the original intent of this thread: I'm really a poopy writer and I've only ever written one story I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas for a Venonat story. I need it for a Wild Card in my gym, so that kind of got me thinking about a Venonat who wants to be a Psychic-type or something idk!! Can anyone possibly help me flesh out this idea more?

Maybe have Venonat hang around a bunch of Psychic types because he/she/it wants to be a Psychic type, and his/her/their fellow Venonat brethren shun the Venonat because he wants to be a Psychic type, and so Venonat goes and chills with the Psychic types and learns their ways.

idk i'm just throwing crap out there, take it or leave it

EDIT: Oh, apparently it saved the fact that I quoted a couple of Jack's posts earlier, so he might get a notification from that, idk. I've removed them since I'm not gonna reply to those anymore since Smiles has dealt with the issue, but if you get that notification, this is why!!!

Experience of Koga's Venonat from season 1 of the anime? That could be fun to explore.

Venonat also like bright lights and shoot lazer beams out of their eyes, according to Bulbapedia. What if it was a sentry! A Pokemon Mystery Dungeon world type thing might be fun to do? I've always wanted to write one in that verse.

Ooooh I like the idea about the sentry thing I might use that in conjunction with what Felly suggested about Venonat being shunned by members of its own type...or maybe it will be shunned by the Psychic-types...lol I have some stuff to think about. Thanks for the ideas, guys, I'll get to writing as soon as I'm done my last final! :D

I didn't know you could request general comments on a story. I'll make sure to do that in future.
I was wondering if anyone had any feedback/comments on my first 'URPG Story': Washed up and Weary

Yoooo, it's late here and I'm browsing the forums because I don't know, but I can read and leave feedback tomorrow if you'd like. ^^ just let me know what your preferred location is (in-thread, VM, PM, so forth. Some people are picky so I figure I should ask)

Also, mildly unrelated, but I'm somewhat active in the writer's workshop here and I can drop some feedback there as well if those are actually the same stories (or if not, whatever floats your boat ^^)

I like comments in the thread where the story is posted, so other people can see that I'm welcome to opinions and so that the stuff is all in one place.
If you want to comment on my other stuff, by all means! I always love comments and feedback because the one thing I want is to improve!

Elrond2.0 said this is probably the best place to put this:
I intend to continue the life of Lincoln on the island he's washed up on. To avoid each post being a "pokemon of the day" post, I'd like to create an ecosystem. That way I can have certain pokemon doing what they do in the background in a much more natural way than: TODAY... LINCOLN FINDS A VENONAT.
Currently I have five tiers for the pokemon:
Vegitive: Pokemon that either eat dirt/rocks, or generate their own food supply. Bellsprout, Chikorita, Geodude and Roggenrola are here.
Herbivore: Pokemon that eat plants, or in some cases Vegitive tier pokemon. Caterpie, Weedle and Rhyhorn are here.
Carnivore1: Pokemon that eat Herbivores. Carnivine and Lincoln are here.
Carnivore2: Pokemon that eat Carnivore1 or Herbivore pokemon. Poochyena goes here.
Carnivore3: Of course, Pokemon that eat Herbivore's through to Carnivore2's.
*note: I feel Merciless and Stupefying pokemon would throw off the balance unless inserted correctly, and fossil pokemon don't really make sense.

Any ideas for what should go where would be greatly appreciated. I don't expect to get all URPG accepted pokemon into this list, but a good balanced island would be cool I think.

What about the more esoteric Pokemon, like Porygon(x), Steelix, Bronzong, Magnemite/ton/zone, etc?

I can't really see Porygon or the magne-line being on an island, they're more human-byproduct pokemon aren't they?
Steelix eats minerals in the ground, so I guess it'd go in Vegitive(as frightening as that is)
ANd Bronzong I don't know. they don't really eat at all do they?

I'm not sure if Bronzor/zong eat anything. However, I can definitely see a place for them in like a temple sort of thing. Got any old ruins/temples on that island of yours? Axion did art of this for a Bronzor, but it seems the images are broken, so I can't link. However, if you included that or some cave system or whatnot, you'd maybe have a place for some of those stranger mons that don't seem to fit into the ecosystem you're setting up. Could add for some dramatic plot twists too!

I in fact do have a place to put a ruin, would work rather well too. Though I do agree that a cave system could hold some great plot twists.
The island map is randomly generated, so I'm really just trying to find what works.

Weren't the pokemon on Mirage Islands explained as having travelled? Or was that something else?
