I'm walking on sunshine. Also, my own two feet, with minimal assistance. SUCCESS.

...Um, hi guys. xD Didn't get into a car accident this time, I just really wanted to focus on the physical therapy to get my legs back into shape. Thankfully, it all went smoothly, and I'm back to walking around like a (relatively) normal person. Not sure if that means anything to all the newer URPGers around here now, but the vets might know what I'm talking about, lol.

So, anyway, yeah. HIIIIIIII~ Oh, look a writing competition. *jumps threads*

Most feedback go here, since commenting on the stories itself is not allowed.

Technically, the Writer's Workshop and URPG's Story section aren't directly affiliated, so we can't have a constant stream of feedback/comments between our two systems. However, if you have a story in URPG, you're more than welcome to post it in the Workshop as well (and vice-versa if applicable). There's nothing wrong with posting your stories in different places to get different opinions!

Also, sorry if I've been kind of "out-of-it" lately. My finals are just about over, and I've already devoted about 95% of my free time to studying/academic activities. I'm almost done though! Once summer starts up, I'll definitely get back in the swing of things to keep my brain occupied and stuff.

    Though on that note of the Writer's Workshop and Story section not being affiliated;

The Writer's Workshop is holding(or will start in a little bit) its Summer Awards. And every time we are on the look out for judges. Last time I know Princess Crow helped and I think someone else did but I don't remember, so you can ask her if it was funP.S. Crow, the answer is yes. So for anyone, Graders and Non-Graders, if you want to help with judging, and give the URPG a good name by helping in other pats of the forumbecause we are "those guys" most of the time come help out. Just PM me saying that you want to.

Also to the writers out there; if you want to post your lovely WaR stories over in the Workshop to get more feedback and perhaps win something in the awards this is the perfect chance. It will show the other writers that the URPG has good writers and that it isn't just the normal RPG.

So to both groups if y'all can come and help please do. The Workshop has plenty of good stories in it just like this here section. So please come and help and spread the good name of the URPG.

EDIT: Actually if y'all want to help judge please PM AceTrainer14, he is the forum head.

I thought I'd dump this little message here in case anyone wanted a 'mon they couldn't really write for for whatever reason.

I intend to do story deals through the summer for TM cases. The highest rank I'll write for is a Hard ranked 'mon. I'll tell you what TMs I want if you want me to write for you because I intend to base it on the rank of the 'mon. I'll write for marts or non-marts; it doesn't make a difference to me. If you'd like me to write for you, just tag me in this thread or VM me on here/PWN/PE2K (the latter of which, I check like once a week), & we'll talk! :)

    Happy writing, URPG! :)

Didn't that rule get overturned to it being allowed unless the author explicitly forbids it?

It's safer to assume that if people don't explicitly ask for feedback, they probably don't want it. If you're unsure but still want to provide feedback, you can always ask them.

Hi, so I wanted to be able to PM people and don't have the required post count because I'm a wee little nublet but I wouldn't dare make useless posts because that's against forum rules

So today I learned that there is a difference between character count and word count. Namely that word count makes for a much larger story.
...am I just really bad at reading, or has someone else had a similar problem? (Also, hello, I'm new here. Hi!)

Welcome, Elysia! I too made that mistake when I first joined, but yes, URPG stories generally focus on character counts (including spaces). We feel that Minimum Character Requirements (MCR's) are both more achievable and "workable" than simply word counts. 5k characters is much easier to write than 5k words!

...yeah, so it turns out that my story for a caterpie is upwards of twenty-five thousand characters. That's still okay though, right?

(oh, and thank you for the welcome!)

Found this gem that Emma posted a long time ago:

I would like to double-over on my previous decision regarding Story Tickets. The argument is that the character count is more of just a guideline than it is a requirement. If you're writing for a Complex Pokemon (meaning a minimum of 30k) and can lower the guided requirement, a grader would still have to grade your story as they would a Complex Story. Meaning that if you wrote your Complex Story at only 24k characters and it was still good enough to pass on its own, then what's the purpose of a story ticket? You've written a marvelous story in a fraction of the suggested length and essentially without the help of the Story Ticket!

As such, it makes the most sense to switch the purpose of Story Tickets to this. The Story Ticket would essentially "drop" the Pokemon in a rank. Instead of writing for a Complex Pokemon and being graded as if it was Complex, the grader would grade your story as if it were for a Hard ranked Pokemon. It'll be a combined effort from the grader and the writer. If that makes sense. I'll update the official rules soon, assuming nobody has any quarrels with the decision.

Excuse me while I weep mildly on this ancient thread. Hi all, long time no see. (Also, for some of you, never ever see.) Just popping in. Good to see you guys are still going strong.

Synthesis is reinstated as a grader. He's proven himself active enough and that he hasn't lost the grader mojo. Effective immediately, have fun with a new grader!

lol. When I saw that he had claimed a story I was wondering if he was reinstated, then I read this.

Have fun with the story, @Synthesis.

Hmm... I'm planning to rewrite a previous story that I had written (this one), which was meant to be the start of a longer story. I found that I couldn't continue it as it was since looking back on it, I thought I could do better, and certain plot points that I planned to continue in future chapters... won't be. I obviously don't expect to get another pokemon for the story, since I already received one, but I want to know where I should put it.

    I guess I could either

    1) put it in this forum as its own story and tell people not to grade it

    2) put it in with the second/first (it's a prologue) chapter when I finish that

or 3) put it in the non-URPG writing section.

    Thoughts?
