Miles and miles of trees are spread before you. The Woods stretches as far as you can see to either side, and even though you haven't headed inside the forested area itself just yet, you can hear the cries of birds, the whirring of insects, and the calls of various Pokemon. There's a cool breeze, which is a blessing since it's so warm today. Hopefully it'll be cooler under the cover of the trees.

Beside you is a young woman with long blonde hair, clad in a red Ranger's outfit. On her other side is a large emerald serpent, a Pokemon twice as long as her Ranger is tall. She flicks her tail as her Ranger speaks.

"Now, if you need anything or just want to talk or whatever, feel free to do so, but for now I'll just hang around behind you. We don't want anything crazy happening."

She then motions for you to head on, which you do. Within a few minutes you are walking between trees that are taller than any buildings you’ve ever seen. Thankfully it is several degrees cooler among the trees and undergrowth than out in the direct sunlight, but there’s no real time to become aware of the drop in temperature. Your first encounter begins almost immediately as a pink, bulldog like Pokemon walks out in front of you from behind a large bush. It glances at you and pauses, a curious expression on its face.

I looked around the wooded area, walking down the path that my ranger had pointed out.

"Now, if you need anything or just want to talk or whatever, feel free to do so, but for now I'll just hang around behind you. We don't want anything crazy happening." She said, the large snake like Pokemon that she had decided to take along. I wasn’t in the mood for talking, so I said nothing. I was enjoying the peacefulness of the Woods, Taking in the large trees and the nice breeze. My thoughts were interrupted as a small pink Pokemon came out of the woods. It cocked its head at me, and started walking towards me.

I take a step back, looking at the Snubbull. It was a normal type, and a Pokemon I had no interest in catching. I turned to my ranger.

“Can we try to avoid it?” I asked.

Trainer nods at your question and motions for you to follow her for a moment as she takes the lead, skillfully distracting the Snubbull with a few soft words. The canine, appeased by the Ranger’s gentle voice, is content to leave you be and continue on its way. Trainer then lets you take the lead again as she falls back several paces behind. However, you don’t get far, nor do you get to enjoy the scenery, before another small pink Pokemon wanders into your path. This time it’s a Jigglypuff, chasing a small blue butterfly and not paying any attention where it’s going.

My ranger walked over to the dog like Pokemon, and said something to it. The little Pokemon walked back into the woods and left us alone. We walked down the path for a few seconds, when a rustling was heard in the bushes next to us. We stopped waiting for the Pokemon to come out. A little blue butterfly came out, and I was wounding if the bug was the source of the noise. I realized that I was wrong, because the bushes were still moving. A small pink ball came out of the woods, and I realized that it was a Jigglypuff. It was another normal type, one which I had no plans on catching. I turned to face my ranger.

“Can we avoid this one two?” I said

Trainer smiles and steps forward when Jigglypuff stops chasing the butterfly to look over at you, startled by the sound of your voice. The Ranger speaks to Jigglypuff in the same gentle manner she used with Snubbull, asking the little Pokemon to let them be on their way. Jigglypuff simply stares at the blonde-haired woman though, blinking and tilting its head rather than leaving or attacking. Trainer sighs and glances at you with an apologetic smile.

“Seems this little one isn’t going to be as easy to get around as Snubbull was.”

Jigglypuff had stopped looking at the bug that it was following, and turned to face us. I bet it hear me talking to the ranger that I was with. I made a note to try to avoid catching the attention of any other Pokemon that we would run into and I didn’t want to have a fight with.

The ranger looks at me, and says

“Seems this little one isn’t going to be as easy to get around as Snubbull was.”

The pokemon wasn’t quite attacking yet, or really getting in my way, so maybe we could still avoid a fight. I still had a Pokedoll, so I could fall back on that. I could try to run away again, and I think that would be our best chance to get outta here.

“Can we try to flee from it again?” I asked

You opt to try and get around Jigglypuff again, and this time luck is on your side. The round Pokemon quickly loses interest in you and prances off, leaving you free to continue on your way. A short while later, you come to a giant decaying log lying off to the side of the path; investigating near the log startles a large purple moth from the side opposite of you, causing it to fly into the air with a chittering noise. Trainer smiles as the Venomoth eventually lands on the log and stares at you, its wings occasionally flapping.

“I have a Venomoth. She’s such a cheerful bouncy little thing, and as a species they’re pretty versatile. Interested in trying to nab one?"

Jigglypuff seemed to have stopped caring about us, and walked over to study something else. We walked on for a little bit, and stopped when a large log was in sight. We walked over to the log. It was big, and moss was growing over it, all over it. I pushed my hand against it, and something made a noise on the other side of the thing. A large moth like Pokemon had flown up from the side of rock, and was staring at us. It landed on the log, looking at us.

“I have a Venomoth. She’s such a cheerful bouncy little thing, and as a species they’re pretty versatile. Interested in trying to nab one?" The ranger said.

I frowned as I looked at the Pokemon. I liked bug types, but Venomoth wasn’t the highest on my list. I turned to the ranger.

“I’d like to pass on this one too,” I said

The Venomoth doesn’t seem keen on letting you get away without further inspection. When Trainer tries to lead you around the stump, the large purple moth quickly follows after you. It then moves in front of you, blocking your path and making soft buzzing noises.

“Well, this one seems to be pretty interested in you. You can always use your PokeDoll, or we can just try to get around it again. Who knows, maybe it’ll get bored with us and move on to more fascinating things,” Trainer said, smiling a little at the Venomoth.

We decided to try to go around the Venomoth, but as we went past the stump the moth like pokemon flew up and landed on it. When we tried to keep on going, the Pokemon got right in front of us.

You try to shoo Venomoth away, but the sudden action and tone of your words startles the moth. It makes a strange sort of chirping noise as it rapidly flaps its wings, whipping up a mini funnel of wind. The Gust zigzags through the air and clips Galvantula along his back. The electric spider makes a sort of hissing noise of surprise before giving his assailant a hard stare.

The moth seemed to have felt shafted; I made a small bird like chirping noise as it flew up in the air. It flapped it wings and sent a little gust down on to Galvantula. It did a little damage, and Galvantula seemed a little annoyed by it. I wasn’t in the mood to catch the Pokemon, or fight it. I didn’t want to do ether. I reached into my bug and pulled out the Pokedoll that I had been given. It was small and pink. I raised it over my head and tossed it into the trees a few feet away. I waited to see if the moth like Pokemon would follow.

Luckily, Venomoth is distracted by the PokeDoll, allowing you to finally pass by unhindered. You walk a short distance before coming to a clearing with a single majestic tree growing in the center. Perched on one of the lower branches is a large, light-brown bird with flowing feathers on its head. It’s a Pidgeot, and it’s watching you with sharp brown eyes as you enter the clearing.

The large moth like Pokemon seemed to like the doll, since he or she, went flying after it. I didn’t think that any pokemon could not run after the doll if it was tossed for them. We walked down the path until we came across a large clearing. A large, regal tree was in the center of the clearing. A large bird was sitting on the tree. It was a Pidgeot. It looked down at us, maybe it was wondering what we were doing here. I wasn’t interested in the flying type. I looked at my ranger.

“Let’s see if we can avoid this one,” I said.

The Pidgeot watches you and your Pokemon with an unnerving intensity, almost as if it’s peering into your very soul. After several anxious minutes, though, the bird abruptly spreads its wings and takes flight with a piercing cry. A few leaves are shaken from the branch it was on thanks to the force of its takeoff, and a couple loose feathers from the Pokemon’s tail flutter gently to the ground. Within seconds the large avian has vanished into the sky and you move on.

It takes perhaps ten minutes of ambling to come across your final encounter of the event. A large ladybug is busy flittering back and forth between a cluster of huge crimson flowers and a hole in a nearby tree. It seems the Pokemon is collecting pollen, which seems like something a Combee would do, not a ladybug. It pauses in midflight when it notices you, tilting its head quizzically at the human in its territory. The Ledyba doesn’t seem aggressive, at least not at the moment.

We walked past the large bird; it did not seem to have a reason to attack us, or come any closer. I was happy that we didn’t have to fight the large bird. It flew off leaving only a small feather on the ground.

We walked on for a little white, and we came across another Pokémon. It was a large bug that had a red shell with black dots on the back. It had six hands/leg things, and two large wings. It was a Ledyba, a bug and flying type. I wasn’t the biggest fan, but I may as well try to catch the little bugger. I turned to face my own bug type, who was smelling one of the large red flowers that was in the area. I walked over to him and tapped in on the back. He looked a little surprised, but he didn’t jump or anything like that. I kneeled down next to him.

“Hey Galvantula,” I said, in a low voice, “You see that flying bug over there? We are going to try to catch it, kay?” He nodded at me. We would have to be careful, the Five Star Pokémon had not noticed us yet and we still had the chance to get the jump on the bugger.

“Let’s start out with a thunder wave!” I yelled. Galvantula seemed annoyed by that, since I was right next to his ear, or where I think he had ears. He ran over to where the Ledyba was flying. He stopped a few feet short and rubbed his feelers together. A weak spark was formed and it jumped of the feelers and arced towards the Ledyba.

IC: Galvantula manages to paralyze Ledyba, thanks to how quickly the electric spider attacks. Ledyba, now moving slower, doesn't take kindly to the abrupt sneak attack and flies into the air from where it was knocked to the ground by the Thunder Wave, its wings creating an angry buzzing noise. It then curls one of its clawed feet into a fist of sorts and flies at Galvantula with a surprising vigor for a paralyzed Pokemon, thrusting its leg forward with a great amount of speed and force. The blow catches Galvantula on top of the head, and the spider makes a chittering noise as he skitters out of Ledyba's range. The Wild Pokemon pulls its leg back as it goes after your Pokemon, though, not finished with its Comet Punch yet. However, as it flies towards Galvantula, the ladybug's wings lock up and it drops to the ground, twitching a little as total paralysis momentarily grips its body.

The little spark hit the flying bug type, and the little guy showed signs of being paralyzed, Well it was moving slower, and that was about it. The Five star Pokémon had noticed us now, and wasn’t going to let the little shock that Galvantula had given it go. It made one of its leg/hand things into a fist and flew at Galvantula. Using much speed, it hit Galvantula on the head. Galvantula made a angry chattering noise, but he didn’t seem to be too hurt form the move. The Ladybug like Pokémon was not done with his move. The bug’s plan was stopped when it’s wings stopped working and it fell to the ground, twitching a little.

I would have to decide what move to use next, I didn’t want to hurt the bugger too much, which would cause for it to be unable fight, meaning that I would not be able to catch the Pokémon. We had managed to give the Pokémon a status ailment, and while it was not as good as freezing for catching a Pokémon, it was a good first step. It was times like these that made me whish that I had brought a Pokémon that had the move False Swipe, a move that could do damage, but would not be able to fish a Pokémon.

“Galvantula!” I yelled “Use Energy Ball!” Energy Ball was a grass type move that I had taught to Galvantula. It would do too much damage to a flying bug type, and that was the plan. Energy Ball was also a special attack, and the Ledyba’s best stat would likely be special defense, giving it more resistance to the move. The move would still do decent damage, or I hoped it would. Galvantula closed his eyes, and held out his feelers. A small green ball of energy formed in between the feelers. The ball kept on growing until Galvantula decided that it was large enough. He did a little spin and let the ball go, flying in the direction of the Five Star Pokémon.

OOC: The dice favored you this turn lol. Also wow, Energy Ball did a lot less than I was expecting, even considering Ba's decent Spe Def and the fact that it resist Grass moves x4. In fact, I made it do a bit more damage than a full-strength Energy Ball, because it did basically nothing otherwise.

    ===

IC: Galvantula charges his Energy Ball and fires it at the prone Pokemon lying on the ground; unsurprisingly, the attack hits the immobile ladybug head-on. There's no response from the insect, and after a moment you realize you've had a stroke of luck, as it's still fully paralyzed.

The Ball hit the Five Star Pokémon, but little bugger didn’t seem to be to hurt by it. Now I had to think I guess the Energy Ball must have done less damage then I thought I would. We needed to use a better move.

“Let’s try something new!” I yelled, “Use another Energy Ball then follow that up with an Electroweb!” Electroweb was a somewhat weak move that may be able to slow down the target. If we were lucky both moves would hit. I didn’t think that the bugger had a way to heal status ailments, so we didn’t have to worry about that.

Galvantula formed another ball of green energy in its feelers, and sent it at the other bug type. Next he got to work on the web, weaving it with its mouth and feelers, adding sparks of electricity into the mix. Soon the web was done, and Galvantula jumped into the air and tossed it. It started out as a small ball, but expanded into a large web as it flew.
