@Nitro - Pick the abilities for your Pokemon and the nature of the bug please.
    Ranger: Gaius Tyrannius

This would be my second trip into the Enigma Ruins, but it would be more exciting than the last one because the trainer would only be able to encounter lower ranked Pokemon. We rangers we using a special repellant that made all the powerful Pokemon weary of our approach, causing them to leave us alone. Because there wouldn’t be all that powerful Pokemon one normally encountered on a run I chose to only take a couple of my Pokemon along, Snorlax and Alakazam. Together those two could do a lot of hurt on almost any Pokemon.

The client was also one who had been to the park many times and was also a fellow ranger, one who I had recently escorted out of Oktori with a few good Pokemon. Hopefully this run would be just as fruitful, nothing sucked more than a bad run. The cost wasn’t too bad, but it did take time and effort. I drove the short distance to the ruins and settled in to wait for John to show up.

OOC: sorry, Technician/Multiscale, and Modest for Scizor.

Well, it was time for me to begin my first ever journey in the Enigma Ruins!

I couldn't wait. This new area of the Park had just been unveiled and opened to the public, and while I had been aware of its existance before its announcement due to my standing as a Ranger, my knowledge had been limited as I hadn't been all that involved with its development for Park use. One thing was for sure though: I couldn't wait to see what I would get to bag. Hopefully, something nice. Something nice would be, well, nice.

I saw my Ranger up ahead. It was Gaius, the same guy who had been my Ranger for my last adventure through Mount Oktori. He was a nice guy, and I waved at him.

"Hey, Gaius!" I called. Beside me, my Scizor, Cryogonal, gave an acknowledging nod to him. Cryogonal hadn't been a part of the last run to Oktori, though I had filled him in on the events on the way here. He knew who Gaius was through my retelling of the run.

“Hey, Gaius.” I heard a voice callout. I looked up from the game I was playing to see John come walking down the path, two of his Pokemon by his side, both of whom I recognized. I waved back and waited for him to approach.

“Nice to see you guys again,” I said to John and his Pokemon once they got within arm length. I extended a hand and shook John’s. “This is my second trip to the Ruins, but it should be fun. I understand this is your first trip here also. We should run into a few surprises, but don’t worry about them. Oh, and not sure if you remember, but we have a special repellant that will cause the most powerful Pokemon to avoid us. I have a feeling we’ll run into some good Pokemon though.”

I listened to his reply as I opened the gates protecting the ruins. The front of the ruins were exactly that, stone ruins from a long ago city, with a large temple in the center. Right in front of us was an old stone archway, welcoming us to the area.

Soon as we passed through it the entire surrounding area changed to that of a valley, with us directly in the middle of it in a tall field of grass. Directly before us was a small Unown hopping about.

“A common Pokemon, you want it?” I questioned John.

OOC: Idon't know if you just forgot to type it or something, but you put 14 encounters remaining when there should be 19. Just pointing that out.

    I shook Gaius' hand.

"This is my second trip to the Ruins, but it should be fun. I understand this is your first trip here also. We should run into a few surprises, but don’t worry about them. Oh, and not sure if you remember, but we have a special repellant that will cause the most powerful Pokemon to avoid us. I have a feeling we’ll run into some good Pokemon though." he said.

I nodded, and smiled. His words lifted my heart - a Ranger's gut was usually a good sign of whether encounters would be good or bad. While it certainly wasn't something I could use as a definite sign that I would see something nice, I certainly interpreted his words as a good thing.

I returned Cloyster, my Dragonite, to her PokeBall for now. It was an unnecessary hassle to walk around with two Pokemon, and Cryogonal was my favorite one so I would have him with me for now. If I needed Dragonite, then I could always call her out.

Gaius led me into the ruins. Immediately, the area morphed into a valley with tall grass in the middle. I strode into the grass, and spotted an Unown.

"A common Pokemon, you want it?" Gaius questioned. I shook my head. Unown were cool and I had a little bit of interest in beginning a collection of them, but I wasn't really interested in settling for one quite yet. Not with me blindly believing that there would be better things to come shortly.

John shook his head and indicated that we should move on from the small Pokemon. This was a perfectly understandable reasoning, Unown were only caught because of the numerous shapes they could be. Beyond that, they were a plentiful species and on that was fairly weak.

I knew at least three trainer who had one, and they caught them simple to have them in their collection, they had no battle use. To be honest, I don’t remember ever seeing one in battle, now that was saying something. I had personally been in over a thousand battles and officiated nearly eight hundred. That didn’t count the matches I had merely spectated. That alone spoke about how much people wanted this Pokemon.

“We can do that,” I replied to John. “Let’s try and move past it and see what happens.”

I tried to go around the much smaller Pokemon but every time I did so it moved to block my path. After a few attempts I sighed and turned back to the trainer. “This Pokemon isn’t giving up. You’ll either have to purchase a Pokedoll or battle it.”

I knew he knew his options, but it was always polite and park policy to voice them when the need arose.

"We can do that," Gaius answered. "Let’s try and move past it and see what happens."

We tried to walk past it. I wasn't really expecting any resistance from the Unown, so I was surprised when it floated back into my path, refusing to let me through. I frowned.

"This Pokemon isn’t giving up. You’ll either have to purchase a Pokedoll or battle it," Gaius said.

I sighed. "I might as well battle it, I guess."

Unown was a weakish Pokemon, and since both of my Pokemon were at full health, I figured I could be able to save a quick $500 here. Besides, I would only be battling low-level Pokemon on this run, so it shouldn't hurt my long-term health.

"Cryogonal, you can have this one," I said. My Scizor nodded, and stepped out to face the Unown. "Let's try and end this as quickly as possible. Go with Bug Bite!"

Cryogonal nodded, and lifted his head to reveal razor-sharp mandibles on the bottom of his head. Normally, Bug Bite was a weaker attack than alternatives such as X-Scissor, but with Cryogonal's Technician factored in, Bug Bite became the most powerful option. I was hoping for a 2HKO here.

“I might as well battle it, I guess.” John sighed when the Unown failed to leave. “Cryogonal, you can have this one,” he said to his Scizor standing by his side. “Let’s try and end this quickly as possible. Go with Bug Bite.”

John was clearly not holding, Bug Bite being one of Scizor’s strongest moves with Technician, and it was super effective against the weak Psychic type. The Scizor walked forward and lifted its small wings, which immediately filled the air with its sharp buzzing sound.

The Scizor flew towards Unown, one of its claws opened wide to clamp around the Pokemon. Unown must have known that Scizor would attack because it pointed its eye at the ground and vines suddenly sprang up and wrapped around the legs of Scizor. Unfortunately for Unown its Hidden Power wasn’t very effective against Scizor and the Bug Pokemon easily pulled away.

Scizor seized Unown in a claw and bit down hard. It gave the Unown a quick shake and tossed it away. Unown quickly regained its bearing with Levitate, but the Bug Bite had clearly drained much of its energy. It literally had no chance of beating Scizor. Hidden Power was a decent move, but if it was the only move a Pokemon knew and it wasn’t very super effective then it was in trouble.

Cryogonal jumped over to the Unown, and made to execute the Bug Bite. Unown tried trapping him in midair, glowing green with energy and drawing vines out of the ground to trap the Scizor. However, the Hidden Power was very weak and Scizor had no problem fighting his way out of the trap.

Cryogonal leaned over and grabbed the Unown in his claws. Smiling devilishly, he bit down hard on the flat Psychic Pokemon. Idly, I couldn't help but think of alphabet soup. However, the move's effect was instantenous - I saw some of the Unown's appendages go limp as the attack weakened it.

"Awesome, Cryogonal!" I called. The attack had done plenty of damage, and finishing Unown off shouldn't be a problem. I was about to order another Bug Bite when I recalled Unown's attack had went first, meaning it was faster than my Pokemon. To prevent the Pokemon from squeezing one more hit in, I changed my command. "Let's use Bullet Punch!"

Cryogonal nodded. Bullet Punch was a speed-based priority move that was a signature move of many Scizors due to its effectiveness, and this was no different for my Cryogonal. With STAB and the Technician bonus, it was a very effective method of dispatching foes. With Unown weakened after such a powerful Bug Bite, I doubted it would have much chance, if any, of surviving this Bullet Punch.

Cryogonal leaped towards Unown, one of his claws pulled back into a fist. Hopefully, this next blow would be the last.

“Awesome, Cryogonal!” John yelled to encourage his powerful Scizor. “Let’s use Bullet Punch,” he called out the next attack. Bullet Punch was a really good move in this instance because it had increased priority, got STAB, and was boosted by Technician. He really couldn’t have picked a better move.

Scizor leaped towards the Unown, using his wings to boost his speed. The Unown saw the Scizor coming but was too slow to dodge and didn’t know any other moves other than Hidden Power. It tried to shield its body as much as possible, but it didn’t really make that much of a difference.

Scizor slammed his claw into Unown and the little Psychic Pokemon crumbled to the ground unconscious. It sucked the little Pokemon had to faint, but that was the life of a Pokemon. Although, this was the first time I had ever seen a wild Pokemon faint in the National Park, it just usually didn’t happen for a myriad of reasons.

I looked over at John. “You ready to move?”

The Scizor had took very little damage, but it was always polite to allow a small respite for the trainer and Pokemon. john might want to give his Pokemon some words of praise or take a small break. As a ranger it was my job to facilitate that.

Cryogonal's Bullet Punch connected with the Unown. The Pokemon tried to protect itself, but it really didn't have any way of doing so. Cryogonal's speed when using this move made him very hard to avoid, and Unown hadn't had a chance of avoiding my Scizor.

"Unown!" the Pokemon cried, dropping to the ground as it fainted. I smiled - we could move on now. That was a very quick battle, and I had saved a bit of money in the long haul. I was feeling pretty pleased right now for how things turned out.

"You ready to move?" Gaius asked me.

I nodded at Gaius, and turned to Cryogonal. "Great job, Cryogonal, let's keep going!" Hopefully, one of our next few encounters would be something worth taking home.

John nodded in response to my query. “Great job, Cryogonal, let’s keep going!” he said, enthusiastic so far in the run. I was sure that enthusiasm would pay off as the run went on.

I walked over to check on the fainted Unown before moving on. I wanted to be sure it wasn’t too damaged, sometime wild Pokemon needed help to recover from injuries. This Pokemon didn’t so I knew it would wake and be on its way in only a few minutes.

As we left the Unown the environment changed once more. We were in a long yellow hallway that was in a state of disrepair. Paint was peeling from the wall to reveal cracks and floor tiles had snapped off and littered parts of the floor. This was the area known as the Power Plant, a home for Electric and some Poison types.

I was looking around for the Pokemon that was sure to be here when I spotted a purple balloon near the ceiling. Black smog was slowly drifting from holes on its body and I knew the Pokemon to be the Koffing, a Poison Pokemon that would evolve into Weezing.

I pointed it out to John and waited for his response.

Gaius quickly checked on the fainted Unown, then after he was done checking over the Pokemon for long-term injuries, we decided to move on.

Around us, the environment changed. We were now in a dusty and gloomy hallway. It was very poorly kept and very unappealing to the eye. Paint was falling off the walls, and the ground was littered with trash and grime. However, this didn't bother me.

I had never been to this area of the Park before, but this could only be the Power Plant. I wondered what I would find here. My hopes weren't particularly high, however, given that I didn't have much interest in the inhabitants of this area to begin with.

To no surprise, my next encounter didn't capture my interest. The Koffing floated towards us, eyeing us from the ceiling with curiosity evident in its eyes. Gaius pointed it out to me, but I had already noticed it. I shook my head at him - I could probably find something better than this.

John didn’t want the Pokemon, which wasn’t at all surprising seeing as how Weezing wasn’t a Pokemon that was particularly powerful a Poison Pokemon. I waved a greeting at Koffing and the small Pokemon turned away from us, it didn’t want a battle either. Since this was the ruins I knew that once we moved on from the Koffing the place would change to match out next Pokemon.

I took a right turn and headed towards the nearest door. Soon as we entered the computers and walls disappeared, only to be replaced by a heavily wooded area. It wasn’t dark, but there was such a heavy canopy of leaves that much of the sun was blocked out.

I growl to my left told me where the next Pokemon was. I turned to see a small pink bulldog-like Pokemon growling at us as we disturbed its territory. This Pokemon was spoiling for a fight.

    “You want a Snubbull?”

The Koffing turned away from us, clearly not interested in a battle either. Gaius led me onward, and the environment changed once again. The dank interior of the Power Plant morphed into a densely forested area: the Woods. Again, my enthusiasm was low - the Woods contained very few noteworthy Pokemon. Still, I cast my eyes about just in case it turned out to be something cool.

Nope. I spotted the Snubbull up ahead. The pink fairy Pokemon was growling at us - we must have upset it without appearance somehow, even though technically it had been the one to teleport to us, though this was an unknown fact to it. Still, I had no interest in this Pokemon, either.

"You want a Snubbull?" Gaius asked. I shook my head, although I looked over to Cryogonal just in case. If this Snubbull didn't let us through (which, at the moment, looked like a very likely possibility), then we'd have to battle it. Maybe I would just buy a Doll this time, though.

Soon as John shook his head the Snubbull growled again and stepped forward boldly, the little Normal Pokemon really wanted a fight to go down. I turned to John to tell him exactly that. “Battle or hand over some cash, this little guy is looking to pick a fight and we just happened to be in the way.”

Some Pokemon were naturally known for being tenacious fighters and Pokemon that never backed down from a fight. Snubbull, and Granbull, were Pokemon that were just like that. I had a few Pokemon like that myself, my Gyarados was a great example. The problem with Granbull was that it did have a nice high attack, but its speed and defenses were terrible, making it not that great an option. It was easy to see why John didn’t want to add one to his team.

The Snubbull refused to let us go, growling at us. I had expected this, and sighed. Sizing up the Pokemon, I figured it would be a little more of a task than Unown would be. If I wanted to save money, I might as well wait until closer to the end of the run.

Gaius turned to me. "Battle or hand over some cash, this little guy is looking to pick a fight and we just happened to be in the way."

I had my answer ready - and my cash, too. "Let's use a Doll here, I'm not in the mood for another fight."

“Let’s use a doll here,” John responded immediately. “I’m not in the mood for another fight.”

He handed over some cash and I have him a Pokedoll in return. He chucked the plush toy away from us after wagging it at the Snubbull. The Snubbull gazed longingly at the doll, gave us a glare, and chased after the doll. The little dog seized the toy in its jaws and started to shake it.

“Time to get out of here.” I proceeded away from the Snubbull and once again our surroundings changed. This time we were on the flank of an active volcano. Immediately I knew this was Deckbi, a place known for its Ground, Rock, and Fire types. I looked about for the Pokemon that I was sure would appear.

While I didn’t spot the Pokemon I did see some hole the size of footballs. I went over to examine one and recognized the claw marks of a Diglett.

“You want a Diglett?” I asked John.

OOC: Forgot in the last post, but 4750-500=4250

I handed Gaius the money, and he set a doll done for me. The Snubbull immediately ran over, absorbed by the doll.

"Time to get out of here," Gaius said, and I didn't disagree with him.

We continued moving, and the landscape transformed into the side of a volcano this time. Immediately, I recognized the place. I had been here before - it was Mount Deckbi. However, even if I had never been here before, it was easily distinguishable by the, uh, volcano.

Gaius walked over to a hole in the ground. The Pokemon wasn't visible from here, but Gaius seemed to be able to identify it from the hole.

"You want a Diglett?" he asked me, looking up.

I shook my head. "Already got a Dugtrio, so I'm good."

    OOC: If necessary, 4250-500=3750

“Already got a Dugtrio, so I’m good,” John responded, shaking his head at the Diglett hole.

“Cool. Let’s see if we can get out of here without the Diglett showing up.”

No sooner had the words left my mouth that the Diglett suddenly popped out of a hole by John. It fixed its black beady eyes on us and I could tell the Pokemon wasn’t pleased to see us. Just like the Snubbull, the Diglett was being very territorial. Hopefully it would leave us alone once it saw that we were backing down from a fight.

Sadly, every time we tried to leave the Diglett would pop up directly in front us, blocking our exit. I sighed and held out a doll for John to take. He gave me some cash and plucked the doll from my grasp.

He walked over to a hole away from us and placed the Pikachu doll right in front of it. The pink nose of Diglett wrinkled when it scented the doll. It spied the doll by one its exits and darted underneath the ground. It popped up by the doll and seized it with its claws before vanishing back underground a moment later.

Once we were safely away from the Diglett’s turf the scene changed from a stoney surface to that of the woods, the same place we saw the Snubbull. Instead of a Normal type a Grass type greeted us. It was one of the Pokemon commonly handed out as a starter, it was a Chikorita. The Pokemon bounced about us happily.

“I’m guessing you want to pass this little guy up also?”

We tried walking past the Diglett, but it refused to let us pass. I sighed, and handed Gaius the money. He set down another Pokedoll, and we kept going.

I hated to spend money on something time could easily accomplish, but at the same time I didn't feel like putting in the effort to battle the Pokemon. Maybe at some point, if the cost really began to build up and I happened across a weak Pokemon that wouldn't let me pass, I would just fight it for the hell of it. The Park was sometimes just some tough luck.

Our next encounter was a Chikorita. The Pokemon cutely hopped over to us as the world morphed yet again, returning us to the Woods from earlier this time.

"I’m guessing you want to pass this little guy up also?" Gaius asked, and I nodded.
