NBP-1

Ranger John Shay

The Enigma Ruins were finally opened for the public, and now I was going to lead in a Trainer into the brand new area of the Park as part of the Back to Basics event. I had to admit, I was very excited for this.

Right now, I was just outside the fence barrier that closed off the Ruins to outsiders. Of course, with a Ranger and a Park Pass, Trainers were allowed into the Ruins. My Pokemon partner, Cryogonal the Scizor, and I were waiting for a guy named Damian Hikotori.

I looked over the fence. The cave entrance was visible from here - it led to a tunnel that would take us underground to where the labs were. We would be conducting our business in one of those labs, and Damian would find himself 20 different Pokemon in that lab, with the environment around him changing as it happened. It was pretty disconcerting stuff, to be honest, but it wasn't my business to figure out the mechanics behind it all, thankfully. I just had to take Damian in and out of the place. Once he got here, that was.

I couldn't hold back a smile as i saw the ruins come into view. I couldn't believe that i got to go to a special area for my first ever park run! I had spent days planning for this, and brought along two pokemon that I thought deserved to come.

My first choice was Torch, my Chandelure. He was my starter and my best friend. I received him when he was a little Litwick, and since then, we had been through alot together.

My other choice was Wishy, my Togekiss. Wishy was my first pokemon I obtained after Torch, and had battled the most out of anyone on my team. I knew that both of these pokemon deserved to come.

As the ruins came closer, i saw a lone trainer standing in front. Near him was a Scizor and a Cryogonal. I suspected he was my ranger, but just to be on the safe side, I released a pokemon that would have an advantage over both of them. "Come on Torch," i muttered as I released the chandelier like pokemon.

"Chande-Chande-Chandelure," he said, smiling. I smiled back and pointed to the ruins.

"We're going to find some more friends in there today," I said. As we neared the trainer, I put out my hand. "I'm Damian Hikotori, any chance your my ranger today?" i asked. Torch hovered over my head as I did this, as he had became protective of me.

OOC: Just for the record, I don't have both a Scizor and a Cryogonal with me. My Scizor is nicknamed Cryogonal. lol

I noticed a Trainer walking towards me with a Chandelure. I assumed he was my Trainer, Damian Hikotori.

"I'm Damian Hikotori, any chance you're my Ranger today?" he asked me.

I nodded, and offered my hand. "Looks like it. My name's John Shay, and this is Cryogonal, my Scizor." I pointed out past the fence to the cave entrance. "The Enigma Ruins are down there, and I'm sure you can't wait to get started. Even I'm excited for this, so we might as well get going right away."

I led Damian into the cavern, leading him down the tunnel that would take us towards the ruins. Following my map, I took a left at a fork in the path and found myself in a large, large cavern that seemed to stretch on for maybe even a few miles. The shape of the cavern was unnaturally perfect - this was the lab that we would be conducting our run in. I knew that underneath the ground, walls, and ceiling were some sort of very advanced technology that would transform the appearance of the cavern to wherever the Pokemon teleported in came from. I didn't understand how it worked, but that wasn't important to me.

"Well, let's keep walking, I guess," I said to Damian.

I led him deeper into the cavern, and it suddenly transformed. The earth around us morphed into the interior of a dark building, one that was clearly in disarray. The paint was peeling, ceiling tiles were cracked or in some cases missing, and wires were strewn messily all over the floor. This could only be the Power Plant.

"Pichu, Pichu!"

I turned. A Pokemon eagerly rushed towards us, clearly happy to have visitors. This cute Pokemon was the pre-evolution of the ever-popular Pikachu. I turned to Damian.

"Want to try capturing this Pokemon?" I asked him.

The man nodded and reached out, shaking my hand. "Looks like it. My name's John Shay, and this is Cryogonal, my Scizor." John said. His Scizor nodded to us and Chandelure smiled. John then turned around and pointed to the caves. "The Enigma Ruins are down there, and I'm sure you can't wait to get started. Even I'm excited for this, so we might as well get going right away." he said. I became a bit happier, knowing my ranger was going to be nice to me on my first run. It was good to know he wanted to go through this place as much as me.


John pulled out a map and began walking. We entered the tunnels and Chandelure had to follow in behind me just so we could fit. We walked on and I began to think this cave was going to go on forever. Rocks crumbled from the walls around me, and I began a fear of this place crumbling on us. Looking around, I realized there were small lights on the walls and roof. Thinking back to my research, I remembered that the cave would transform to whatever enviroment was good for the wild pokemon appearing.

"Well, let's keep walking," John said to me and we continued on. Suddenly, the ground around us changed. The floor changed to cement, and the walls became building-like walls all around us. Tiles began to peel as we walked on, and I suddenly realized where we were. As wires appeared, I realized this place looked alot like the pictures from the Power Plant.

Suddenly, a small, electric mouse stepped in front of us. It shook its small tail and smiled. A Pichu.

"Want to try capturing this pokemon?" John asked me. I began to think if a Pikachu/Raichu would be useful on my team. I heard that Pikachu was a good battler if it was equipped with a light ball, so I figured why not.

"Sure," I said. I suddenly realized what was happening. My first ever Park battle! I smiled as I looked at Torch. "Ok Buddy, since you were my starter, you get this first battle," I said to him. Chandelure floated forward until he was about five feet away from Pichu.

"Ok Torch, start with a confuse ray!" I commanded. My ghost chandelier opened his eyes wide and a small ball of energy shot towards the small, electric rodent. I smiled, seeing that the attack looked like it might work. I tried thinking ahead to other strategy's as I watched the attack.

 

BP-1: Chandelure VS Pichu

OOC: Pichu's gender? Also, sorry for the shortish post, I'm running a little short on time atm.

"Sure," Damian answered excitedly. He turned to his Chandelure. "Okay buddy, since you were my starter, you get this first battle. Okay, Torch, start with a Confuse Ray!"

His Chandelure floated forward to meet the Pichu. Immediately, his eyes flashed at the Pokemon, hitting it with a blinding light for the briefest of moments. It was like a camera's light when you took a photo.

"Pichu..." it moaned, stumbling around and clearly dazed by the move. It was confused now, leaving it prone to Damian's attacks.

Shaking its head for a moment and trying to regain its senses, Pichu focused its eyes on Torch. However, there was a lack of concentration in its eyes. Pichu charged up some electricity, building up for an Electric-type attack. However, it lost control of itself and ended up overcharging the electricity, ending up shocking itself. This battle was off to a nice start for Damian and Torch.

Torch opened his eyes wides and his eyes glowed a pink. Pichu made the mistake of looking into Torch's eyes, and Pichu quickly became confused. I was scared that Pichu would be able to overcome it long enough to attack Torch, but I didn't say anything.

"Pichu..." the Pichu groaned as it stumbled around. I almost laughed, but caught mysef, then felt sorry for the little guy. I hoped I wasn't taking it from family or anything. Pichu had a blank stare in his face, then began charging up electricity. Pichu then lost focus, overcharging the electricity and shocking himself. I smiled, this battle was going in our favor.


"Ok Torch, use Shadow ball to distract the Pichu, then follow it closely with a Flamethrower!" I commanded. My plan here was Pichu would focus on the Shadow ball, then not notice the flames flying towards it. Torch gave out a battle cry, and formed a black ball of energy in front of his mouth. Shooting it towards the Pichu, Torch quickly began shooting flames towards the little electric rodent.

 

BP-2: Chandelure VS Pichu

Damian couldn't hold back a laugh at the befuddled Pichu, but quickly got back to work. "Okay Torch, use Shadow Ball to distract the Pichu, then follow it closely with a Flamethrower!"

This strategy seemed very effective, particularly against a confused Pokemon. With Pichu in his current state of mind, he would struggle even to dodge the distraction attack, and then the follow-up should deal a solid amount of damage.

It played out just like I expected. Torch's first attack, Shadow Ball, flew towards Pichu and the Pokemon actually leaned in, squinting at the attack. It was almost comical when Shadow Ball struck the Pokemon head-on. Torch's Flamethrower hit Pichu as he laid supine on the ground, the flames wrapping around the Pokemon.

"Pichu..." Pichu whined, clearly suffering. This time, however, he was able to piece something together offensively. Pichu let loose a jagged bolt of electricity, which connected with Torch. Pichu was clearly not 100%, so the ThunderBolt lacked its typical oomph, but this was still solid, all considered. Now, however, Damian had the clear upper hand. What would he do?

The attack worked out just like I planned. The ball flew quickly towards Pichu, and the small mouse actually leaned in CLOSER to squint at the attack. I tried to hold back a laugh at this. The following flames then quickly surround the Pichu, and I could see the attack dealt good, solid damage. I knew that it wouldn't take much more for me to be able to capture this Pichu.

Pichu looked at Torch and actually managed to get off an attack this time. The small, electric mouse grunted and shot a small, electric bolt of electricity. As Pichu was not feeling so good, I knew that the attack didn't do very much. I quiickly ordered my command, wanting a new teammate. "Ok Torch, use ShadowBall again!" I commanded.

BP-3: Chandelure VS Pichu

"Okay Torch, use Shadow Ball again!" Damian commanded.

Torch blasted out one last ball of ghostly energy. This was probably the nail in the coffin, and at this point, Pichu was too overwhelmed to do anything about the attack as it rushed towards him. He just stood there and took the blow.

Pichu was knocked over, and struggled back to his feet. Now was the time for Damian to capture him, probably. I would be surprised if he tried anything else.

However, Pichu returned to his feet. I noticed he wasn't swaying any more, and the look in his eyes had finally cleared up. It was poor timing for him, but it seemed he was at least going to make one more move.

"Pichu!" he cried, quickly zapping Torch with an Electric-type move. This wasn't another ThunderBolt - it seemed that at this point, Pichu couldn't pull out another one of those. I figured this was Spark, then. A little more powerful than the basic ThunderShock, although not quite in ThunderBolt's league. Torch flinched a little as the attack struck him, but overall, the effect seemed very minor.

Torch created a black ball of energy in his mouth and shot it at the small, defenseless rodent,knocking it over backwards. Struggling, the Pichu managed to get back onto it's feet. It's eyes were no longer hazy, and it seemed to be able to focus its attention. I knew that Pichu wasn't confused anymore, but it was the worst possible time for the little guy.

"Pichu!" Pichu yelled, and quickly zapped my Chandelier ghost. I knew that with how quickly the attack hit, Pichu had no time to charge up any power behind it. I also knew that I would now have to capture Pichu if I was to catch this pokemon at all.

I spun my hat around backward, and pulled a Parkball out of my bag. Pressing the button on the small sphere, it grew into a much, much larger ball. I pulled back and threw the ball at the Pichu...

 

BP-4: Chandelure VS Pichu

I knew what Damian was going to do the moment he twisted his cap back. He took out a Park Ball, and clicked the button in the middle to expand it. Then, he tossed the Park Ball at Pichu.

"Pichu!" he cried, crying as he was sucked into the Park Ball.

The Park Ball hit the ground, and started bouncing. One... two... three!

"You've captured it!" I said to Damian, smiling at him. I allowed him to rejoice in his victory with his Pokemon as I walked over to the Park Ball and picked it up. I explained to him, "Since you're only allowed to take three Pokemon home with you, I'll hold on to everything you capture until the run is over. Then, you can pick up to three of what you captured, and I'll give you those to keep."

"Well, tell me when you're ready to continue," I said.

Pichu was absorbed into the ball and it hit the ground rocking, back and forth, back and forth. Once....Twice...three times! "You've captured it!" John said to me as the ball clicked. As I began to walk over to Torch John quickly explained the park rule of rangers carrying the captured pokemon.

I smiled as I looked at my chandelier thing. "Good job buddy, you did awesome out there," I said to Torch. Looking back to John, I knew that we would move along quickly.

"Well, tell me when you're ready to continue," John told me. I looked at Torch and he gave a slight nod.

"We're ready," I told him, my voice a little cheerier after catching a pokemon.

"We're ready," Damian said, clearly feeling uplifted after catching Pichu. I nodded, and we continued walking.

The lab around us morphed, transforming from the dank interior of the Power Plant to a completely different area. We were at the base of a volcano - Mount Deckbi. Even though it was only a simulation, the towering volcano was a very intimidating sight.

"Ponyta!"

I turned. A horse with flames on its back approached us. This was Ponyta, as its cry suggested.

"Want this, Damian?" I asked him.

I heard a pokemon cry behind us and quickly turned around. As I turned, the metal room slowly transformed into what I guessed was Mt. Deckbi. I saw A Pony wth flaming hair at the base of a mountain, recognizing the pokemon as a Ponyta.

"Want this, Damian?" John asked me. I quickly considered my options. I didn't realy need another fire type for awhile, having Torch already, but a Ponyta would be a good pokemon as well.

"Nah, lets let it pass," I said, not wanting the pokemon.

Ranger John Shay

OOC: Remember, you always need a minimum of 500 characters. You were just under this time, so I'll let it slide. If it happens again though, I won't/can't accept it.

"Nah, let's let it pass," Damian said.

I nodded, and I told him to follow me as we walked around the Ponyta. It watched us, and I thought it was going to let us go away without a battle. I was wrong, however. It followed us, not making any aggressive moves but also showing that it was not planning on leaving us. We would probably have to battle it before it would decide to leave us alone. I turned to Damian.

"You're going to have to battle it, I think," I said, "unless you want to spend $500 on a Pokedoll."

John nodded to me and we began to walk around the Ponyta. I smiled, thinking this Pony was just going to let us go past. I was wrong. The flaming pony wuickly sidestepped and blocked our path. It looked me in the eyes, giving me a challenging look.

"Ok horse, if that's the way you wanna play it, that's the way we'll play it," I said to the Ponyta.

"You're going to have to battle it, I think," John said, "unless you want to spend $500 on a Pokedoll."

I shook my head. "I ddin't wanna catch it origonally, but I can see a fighter in this one. Come on out Wishy!" I shouted. I realized that the nickname I gave my pokemon when I was five didn't sound near as cool now. "Start off with an Ancient Power, then use Air Slash!"

 

BP-1: Togekiss VS Ponyta

Damian seemed to have had a change of heart. "I didn't wanna catch it originally, but I can see a fighter in this one. Come on out Wishy!"

Damian tossed a Pokeball, and his Togekiss came out to meet the Ponyta. "Start off with an AncientPower, then use Air Slash!"

Wishy nodded. Chunks of earth ripped out of the ground, and Wishy launched them towards Ponyta with psychic energy. The rocks collided into Ponyta.

"Ponyta!" it cried.

Wishy wasn't done yet, however. She followed up with Air Slash, slashing her right wing through the air. A current of wind ripped into Ponyta, and the Pokemon winced once again. I suspected Air Slash may have been a critical hit. The combination of AncientPower and Air Slash seemed to have gotten Damian off to a very nice start here.

All of a sudden, Ponyta began glowing. The sun's rays began healing it - this was Morning Sun! This would neutralize a lot of what Wishy had just done, which was really unfortunate for Damian. However, he had established a psychological advantage, so if he wanted to look on the bright side, there's that.

Ponyta stared at Wishy. There was newfound focus in its eyes. Judging from its start, I suspected Ponyta had come out of the gates a little unprepared. However, if that had been the case, it certainly wasn't now. Ponyta looked locked in. Damian should be careful - as weak as Ponyta had looked earlier to those first few attacks, it should be more prepared to deal with them now.

The fires on Ponyta's back expanded in size, and Ponyta rushed towards Wishy with the flames behind it acting like a protective cloak, only it was being used for offense. This was Flame Charge - if Ponyta connected, it would boost Ponyta's Speed stat.

Wishy flew towards the Pony, eyes glowing a brilliant purple. Small chunks of earth flew up from the ground. Floating in the air mometarily, the chunks then flew towards the Ponyta, slamming the flaming Pony, leaving mud marks. The Ponyta cried out in pain, and her flames roared.

"Ponyta!" the fire pony yelled. I knew that Wishy hadn't finished the attack yet. She flew forrward, her wing sraightening out and shining a brilliant white. The wing slahed the Pony across the side, definately doing some damage.

Ponyta then stared Wishy in the eyes, and I knew it was Ponyta's turn to attack. Her body began to glow out of nowhere. The strength seemed to return to it's body as it glowed. I knew that it had healed itself, which was bad for me. I had to keep looking on the positive side though or I would never be able to when this battle.

Ponyta wasted no time. It quickly dashed forward, the flames around it's body growing to form a kind of shield. The flames got hotter and bigger as Ponyta raced towards Wishy. "Ok girl, use extremespeed to get to the side quickly to dodge, then go ofeensive with a yawn!" I shouted.

 

BP-2: Togekiss VS Ponyta

"Okay girl, use ExtremeSpeed to get to the side quickly to dodge, then go offensive with a Yawn!" Damian commanded.

This was very intelligent, I thought to myself as Wishy turned into a blur and reappeared well out of Ponyta's path. Flame Charge was a speed-oriented move, but when it came to speed moves, very few attacks could outdo ExtremeSpeed. Ponyta harmlessly ran herself into a tree beside the path, looking a little dazed.

Wishy now used this moment to use Yawn. She Yawned a large pink bubble of energy, which slowly floated over to the dazed Ponyta and popped. Immediately, Ponyta took on a drowsy look. She would be dozing off to sleep very soon, which would give Damian a decent period of time to make some moves.

Ponyta, realizing what was happening, used this moment to force out one of her most powerful moves. She exhaled a large blast of fire, which roughly resembled a star. This was the powerful Fire Blast - very few Fire-type moves were stronger than Fire Blast. I found myself mildly impressed that this Ponyta knew the move.

The Fire Blast smashed into Wishy, and the Pokemon cried out in pain. However, as I looked over to Ponyta, the Pokemon had already fallen asleep. Damian would have a brief window of time to attack the vulnerable Ponyta.

The Pony charged forward, but Wishy was faster. Wishy flashed to the right, faster then my eye could follow. The Ponyta missed by a mile, ramming into a tree. i knew that the tree didn't do much more than just stun the Pony, so i knew damage would have to come from me.

Wishy opened her mouth wide, and a pink bubble slowly formed and floated out. the bubble drifted slowly in the air, floating towards the now vulnerable flaming Ponyta. The pony began to look dazed, tired even.

Ponyta reared back, giving all her power into one attack before falling asleep. She opened her own mouth wide, and a giant fire blast shot out, going towards Wishy. The flying angel creature had no time to react, getting drilled by the blast immediately. As wishy cried out in pain, Ponyta fell asleep. i knew this would be my chance.

"Ok Wishy, try to shake it off the best you can! Use Metronome to start off, then go to AncientPower!" I commanded.
