    BP-3: Togekiss VS Ponyta

    Ranger John Shay

OOC: Just a heads-up, I have my school finals and provincial exams this week and the first few days of next week. I can probably still post at a good rate but if not, well, then you know why.

"Okay Wishy, try to shake it off the best you can! Use Metronome to start off, then go to AncientPower!" Damian commanded. I raised an eye. Damian was going to go with Metronome... This would be fun to watch.

Wishy tried shaking off the impact of Fire Blast, then wiggled her wings. I watched closely in anticipation, wondering what move Metronome would bring about. Wishy stopped shaking her wings, and then fired off a blast of electricity at Ponyta. I had to look at the shape of the electricity to identify exactly what move it was, and then I identified it as Thunder Wave. This move didn't deal any damage, but dealt the paralysis status to the target. It was bad luck for Damian, since Ponyta was asleep.

The Thunder Wave harmlessly smacked into Ponyta, but when it faded away, I noticed something was off. There were still a few visible sparks on Ponyta's body that weren't disappearing - she was paralyzed! I recalled that under very lucky circumstances, a Pokemon could be afflicted with two status conditions at one time. This was very good luck for Damian - now he had Ponyta paralyzed for the rest of the battle when she woke up. I recalled Wishy didn't know Thunder Wave on her own, so this would make things much, much easier for him from here on out. This had turned out to be excellent luck for him.

Wishy moved on to AncientPower, once again raising another round of rocks from the ground to assault the sleeping and now paralyzed Ponyta. They crashed all over her, and I lost sight of the Pokemon beneath the rubble. However, it was safe to say she was accumulating some damage now.

I heard the Ponyta sniffle a little, but it continued snoring. It was starting to wake up, however. I looked at Damian, wondering if he had noticed. He probably had time to get one more move off safely before Ponyta would wake up.

I saw John give a slight smile at my command. Both of us knew that Metronome was a fun move that could result in hilarious things at times. I turned back to my Pokemon, wanting to watch this attack.

Wishy wiggled her wings back and forth, preparing the attack. I watched in anticipation, hoping for some kind of water or ground type move. None came though, sadly. Wishy quit wiggling her wings, and shot a spark at the sleeping flaming Pony. The spark flew forward, and I instantly knew what the attack was. A thunder wave. The worst possible move that couldve happened while Ponyta was ASLEEP. I looked though, and a small spark twitched across Ponyta's face. The pony was paralyzed and asleep! I smiled, remembering that under certain conditions a pokemon would have two status effects.

Wishy quickly moved onto her next attack. Her eyes glowed a pink, and then raised some rocks into the air. The rocks formed a circle, and shot at the sleeping Ponyta. The rocks slammed into her, dealing a little damage. Not much though. The rocks continued until the Ponyta was completely covered.

Ponyta's sniffle could be hear underneath the pile. More snores followed though, so I knew that the Ponyta would soon be waking up.

"Ok Wishy, you've done good, but I have an idea. Come on back and Torch can finish this!" I shouted. Raising One pokeball, a red beam shot out, pulling Wishy in. I threw another, and my Chandelier pokemon, Torch, came out. "Ok Torch, start with a shadow ball!" I commanded.

"Okay Wishy, you've done good, but I have an idea. Come on back, and Torch can finish this!" Damian returned Wishy to her Pokeball, and tossed out another one. His Chandelure exploded out. "Okay Torch, start with a Shadow Ball!"

Torch nodded, and let loose a weak blast of Ghost-type energy to clear the rubble, revealing Ponyta. Then, he blasted a more concentrated ball of energy. The dark mass flew towards the sleeping Ponyta, landing a solid blow on her flank.

"Ponyta!" she cried, immediately waking up. She immediately stumbled, probably caught unaware by her paralyzed state. However, she adapted to her restricted movement, and fired off a blast of royal purple energy at Torch. This was Hidden Power, a quirky move to say the least. Many Pokemon were capable of using it, but very few Pokemon ever did. I suspected that Ponyta, finding herself in this situation, was able to bring out the attack.

The Hidden Power slammed into Torch, and the Chandelure winced a little. Lucky for him, it seemed Ponyta's Hidden Power wasn't all that strong. I suspected it was Psychic-type, which hit for neutral damage against Torch. It could've been worse for Torch, I supposed, but things weren't too bad as they were. I wondered what Damian would do next. The pace of battle had been a little slow up until now, with Ponyta asleep, but it should probably pick up around now.

Torch nodded to me and pulled his head back, then slammed it forward, shooting a tiny, weak ball of shadow energy. The rubble cleared away, leaving Ponyta vulnerable. Torch then made a condensed ball of black, shadow energy and shot it at an amazing speed. The ball flew, rolling, and hit Ponyta on the flank.

The Ponyta shot awake after this one. "P-P-Ponyta!" it cried out. The flaming Pony stumbled around, apparently not aware of the paralysis. I almost chuckled at this, but I kept my cool. Learning how to control this restricted movement, Ponyta shot off her own attack very quickly. Firing a beam or purple energy at Chandelure, I didn't recognize the attack at first, but it made sense afterwords. It was a Hidden Power. I didn't see this move very often.

The attack slammed Torch, and e barely flinched. The hidden Power had to be Psychic for it to do as little of damage as it did. I knew that we would have to come back with our own attack quickly if we wanted to hope for something.

"Ok Torch, fire off two weak shadow balls in front and behind of the Ponyta, keeping it from escaping. Then, use a Confuse ray right on the pony!" I commanded. I knew this attack might be a little tricky, but I was sure my pokemon could pull it off.

Torch nodded, and fired off a weak Shadow Ball. He disappeared quickly, and reappeared behind Ponyta with another Shadow Ball to launch at Ponyta.

"Ponyta!" the Pokemon nodded, a little confused by what was happening. She hadn't even seen the Shadow Ball coming behind her. She was caught by both of the attacks at almost the same time, and fell down to her knees.

Torch floated in front of her with a creepy smile on his face, and he suddenly flashed brightly. That was Confuse Ray, a move that confused the target. I could already see that Ponyta's pupils were a little dilated.

"Ponyta!" she winced, trying to stand up. She stumbled a few steps forward, only to run into a tree. The confusion was visibly getting to her.

Torch shot off a weak shadow ball in front of Ponyta. While she was busy avoiding the black sphere of dark energy, Torch flashed behind her, releasing another shadow ball. Ponyta never even saw the second attack. She was slammed by both at once, dealing some good damage.

Torch floated so he was facing the pony, and had an evil grin on his face I've never seen him have before. His eyes then flashed, so bright that I almost felt dazed by the sight. Looking back, I could see that Ponyta's eyes were dilated.

"Ponyta!," she cried in pain, trying to stand up. She stumbled around, running into a tree. I knew that the confusion was getting to her, and that this would be my chance to attack.

"Ok Torch, shes confused now, so we need to deal some damage here. Use Shadow ball on the Ponyta, and see if you can make her ram into a tree! If not, use shadow ball on the tree, making it fall on her!" I commanded.

"Okay Torch, she's confused now, so we need to deal some damage here. Use Shadow Ball on the Ponyta, and see if you can make her ram into a tree! If not, use Shadow Ball on the tree, making it fall on her!" Damian commanded.

Torch hesitated, trying to figure out which of her Trainer's options was the better one to go with. She decided to try for the first one. She launched a Shadow Ball at Ponyta, trying to bait the confused Fire-type into running into a nearby tree with the attack. However, Ponyta didn't fall for the trick, sidestepping the attack in a different direction altogether. Torch frowned, and quickly fired another Shadow Ball directly at the tree, causing it to fall on Ponyta. By nature, I almost stepped in and warned him for violating the PPPP rule, but then I remembered this was all simulated, and gave him the benefit of the doubt instead.

However, the simulated tree fell on Ponyta, making legitimate contact. Ponyta winced a little, but fortunately for her, it looked like the tree had only scraped her rather than actually crushing her.

"Ponyta!" The Pokemon reared up, clearly frightened by the attack. Seemingly through reaction alone, she launched off another Hidden Power. The blast of psychic energy collided into Torch, but it lacked a lot its luster from earlier. This was just an attack out of pure instinct, it seemed.

Despite her being in a confused state, I saw Ponyta's eyes lock on to Torch. She charged, but all of a sudden sparks began flying around her body. I thought that she was fully paralyzed, but did not stop moving. This was not paralysis, I realized, but instead it was the Wild Charge attack. This Ponyta certainly had a wide array of moves, I remarked to myself, but that should only make it even more desirable to Damian. Right now, though, Ponyta's Wild Charge attack had to be the main concern for him.

Torch seemed to take awhile to decide which of the two commands he was going to do. He decided on the first. Launching a ball of dark, evil energy at the Ponyta, I watched in anticipation. The Ponyta grew smart to this however, and sidestepped, making the attack miss completely. Torch then gave what I assumed to be a frown, and fired another ball at a nearby tree. The tree fell down and scraped the Ponyta, not doing as much damage as i would have liked it to. It still did the job though.

"Ponyta!" the obviously scared Pony yelled. She then landed and shot a pink beam at Torch. Another Hidden Power. torch took on the attack with confidence, and I could tell the attack barely did any damage. it seemed that it was just the Ponyta's instinctto use this move.

When i thought Ponytas confused state was over, I was proven wrong. She focused on torch, and sparks flew. I could tell by the sparks it wasntparalysis, I had seen paralysis before. Ponyta was using a new move i hadn't seen, wild charge. I already knew that I REALLY wanted this Ponyta.

"Ok buddy, we need to deal some damage, and this will help out. Go in front of a tree, then float straight upwards as she comes at you. After this, use overheat!" i yelled. I knew overheat reduced Torch's special attack, but i had a combo move planned.

@KantoMasta - You need to pick the Ability for your Pokemon.
    Ranger: Gaius Tyrannius
    Trainer: Damian Hikotori
    Area: Enigma Ruins
    BP #1
    /--\

Currently I was heading to the Enigma Ruins to take over a run from a fellow ranger. Some unexpected emergency had suddenly come up for him and he broadcasted that he needed a new ranger ASAP. I was just returning from a run in the area so I decided I would help him out. I replied back and headed that way immediately.

I was now on my Charizard circling the area where he said he was. It took me a few moments but I finally spotted him in the midst of a battle. The trainer he was escorting was battling it out with a wild Ponyta. I pointed the Charizard at the battle and held on as the Fire dived.

When we neared the ground I jumped off and recalled the dragon-like Pokemon. I walked over to John and exchanged greetings. He handed over a Pokeball containing a caught Pichu and teleported away. I stored the Pokemon and turned to the battle.

Ok, buddy, we need to deal some damage, and this will help out,” I heard the trainer call out to his Chandelure. “Go in front of a tree, then float straight upwards as she comes at you. After this, use Overheat!”

Chandelure rushed to obey its master and quickly floated behind the tree, no doubt trying to shield itself from the charging Ponyta. The Ponyta was running at full speed, which wasn’t fast as the Pokemon looked as if it was pared, and sparks were building up around its spindly limbs.

The Ponyta snorted as it saw the Chandelure gaining altitude. To my surprise the Ponyta gathered itself and jumped at the Ghost Pokemon. The Ponyta passed right through Damian’s Pokemon because it was a Ghost type, but you could tell the attack did damage because yellow currents of electricity passed through Chandelure’s body.

The Chandelure didn’t show any emotion as it turned to Ponyta and attacked. The flames on its limbs swelled and pointed forward. I saw the heat spread towards the Ponyta and thought for sure the attack would hit. But the Ponyta hit the ground and bounded away immediately, just causing the overheat to miss by mere inches.

It was a tough break for the Damian, but he could still win this battle and catch the Pokemon.

    OOC: isnt Chande SP. ATK-2?

Torch floated in front of a tree, and the wild Ponyta chased. As the flaming Pony drew near, something crazy happened. Torch floated up, as I had planned, but the wild Ponyta was smarter than I anticipated. As she neared the tree, she jumped. Flying into the air, the Pony hit Torch, but because of Torch being a ghost, the Ponyta flew right through him. The attack did damage, but not much. Sparks flew through Torch.

Torch turned, obviously angry, well, I could tell at least. His body glowed a bright, bright neon red. His flames grew, and flew towards Ponyta. I watched nervously as the attack grew close. Then the unthinkable happened. The Ponyta jumped backwards, causing the heat to barely miss.

"Oh wow, this Pony is good," I said, staring down the creature. "We're going to need some good strategy's if we want to beat it. Hmmm..." I muttered, trying to think of a plan. Looking around, I saw many objects. There was rocks, trees, and the ground. Nothing that would help very much.

"Ok Buddy, lets see if it can help us, use Confuse Ray!" I commanded. I was hoping that this attack would confuse the Pony enough that it could assist us by dealing damage to itself.

“Oh wow, that pony is good,” Damian murmured when his attack missed the feisty Ponyta. “We’re going to need some good strategies if we want to beat it,” he trailed off in thought as he tried to formulate a next plan of attack to counter the wild Fire Pokemon.

He looked around the battle environment, but seemed dissatisfied with what he saw. He turned back to his Chandelure and called out an attack. “Ok, Buddy, let’s see if it can help us. se Confuse Ray!”

Instead of using a direct attack against the Ponyta, Damian had opted for using a move that could cause the Ponyta to damage itself. Confuse Ray was often a move used out of desperation, but it could still be used in tactical situations to stall or deal additional damage as required.

The Chandelure’s yellow eyes flashed with color as a bright orb or multiple hues formed in front of it. This orb Chandelure shot at the Ponyta. Ponyta saw the attack coming and tried to dodge the attack like it had done with the Heat Wave. However, unlike that attack, the Ponyta couldn’t dodge the orb.

It stumbled about a few seconds before it started to run around in circles, slowly increasing in speed. At first I thought the Ponyta had become hopelessly confused, but I soon noticed that it was steadily getting faster, a sign that it was using Agility, a move that raised its speed by two stages, or double. It was a good choice, but even with the Agility Ponyta would still be slower because of being pared.

Ponyta's eyes became less dialated and she began randomly running. I thought that Ponyta was fully confused, unable to do anything, but then I realized that she was using an attack. The flaming Ponyta began running faster and faster, and i realized the attack. Ponyta was using Agility. I knew this to be a move that caused the user's speed to grow, as well as making it impossible for it to lose in a speed battle.

I quickly went over my plan in my head again and realized that Agility would work in my plan. I turned to my Chandelier-like pokemon, and our minds seemed to connect. "Ok Torch, start with Haze, then follow it with a shadow Ball!" i yelled.

Torch floated up into the air, and purple fog started floating out of his body. The smoke floated around, surrounding the pokemon.

Contrary to what I thought, Damian seemed happy with the Ponyta using the Agility. He turned to his Pokemon and shouted, “Ok, Torch, start with Haze, then follow it with a Shadow Ball!”

Damian had opted to continue with his attacking plan, but at the same time he had decided to Haze. Haze was a move that created a dense fog around the battlefield, but it had the additional benefit of eliminating any stat boosts on Pokemon, both user and opposing. This would help the Chandelure more than the Ponyta because Chandelure had negative two special attack, its main stat for attacking.

Chandelure floated higher up and a thick dense fog began to spread out from the battlefield, which quickly obscured most of my vision of the battle. This haze aided Chandelure more than Ponyta, but because both Pokemon were Fire type it would easier than normal to catch sight of either Pokemon.

A flash in the haze around the Ponyta told me that the Pokemon had created a barrier around it, either a Reflect or Light Screen, both of which reduced damage to the Pokemon who used it.

I saw another blur of energy and knew that the Chandelure had fired its Shadow Ball at Ponyta. I heard a whinny from the Ponyta, which meant the attack had hit. I heard the Fire type’s hooves striking the earth then a large thump. The Ponyta much have hurt itself due to its confusion. The battle was working even more in Damian’s favor now.

The smoke continued to float from torch’s body, surrounding the Arena. I could barely make anything out through the dense fog. I could also feel the smoke beginning to go into my throat, causing me to choke a bit.

There was a flash in the direction of Ponyta. The flash stayed in the shape of a wall for a few seconds, then disappeared. I then knew that Ponyta had set up either a Light Screen or a Reflect. Either one could hinder my plan, as they reduced damage taken.

There was a second flash, this time in Torch’s direction. It was a bluish color, and it flew through the smoke. The orb almost seemed to keep the fog away, so I could make things out in a small circle around the blue orb.

Then everything went black again. I heard a screech from the Ponyta, telling me the attack hit. I could hear Ponyta galloping, then a loud thud. Ponyta must have ran into something, hurting itself. The confusion was working very well for me, as was the smoke.

I knew that this battle would be wrapped up very soon, so I decided to give it one last attack. Yelling my loudest, I hoped Torch could hear me. “Ok buddy, use Shadow Ball a couple of times in Ponyta’s direction! We should be able to hit it!” I yelled. I then watched for flashes of Blue…

Ok, buddy, use Shadow Ball a couple of times in Ponyta’s direction! We should be able to hit it!” he yelled to his Pokemon, and why he yelled made no sense to me.

The Chandelure, a burning force in the haze bobbed up and down in response to his master. The Chandelure turned towards the direction it had heard the Ponyta last and started to form up a Shadow Ball in front of it. In short order it built up the attack and fired the Ghost attack, and a few seconds later he sent another one into the murky smoke, followed by another. The first two Shadow Ball seemed to miss because we didn’t hear anything, but the last one must have hit or at least clipped the Pokemon because I heard the horse scream in pain.

As the pony continued to scream in pain and no attack materialized I knew that Ponyta had hurt itself again because it was confused. The poor Pokemon was having a terrible time. One good thing to note was that the Haze was starting to drift away, making it easier to see the two Pokemon, now bright outlines. I could see that the Ponyta was laying on its side breathing heavily.

“I think you might want to consider throwing a Park Ball or another device at the Ponyta now.”

There were three quick flashes of blue. The first two shot through the air in different directions, not hitting anything. The third, however, must have gone in the right direction. I saw it fly through the air, and I heard the Ponyta scream in pain.

I never saw a second attack coming from the Ponyta. This had to have meant it hurt itself I guessed. I then realized something. I could see torch’s outline! The smog was clearing.

Straining to see through the smog, I could barely make out the flaming Pony’s outline. It was laying on the ground, breathing heavily. I knew that it was my chance to catch in. I almost screamed when I came to this conclusion, being so excited. I had waited throughout this whole battle for this chance, and it finally came.

I reached into my bag, and pulled out a small sphere, no bigger than a pebble. I pressed the button on the center of the pokeball, and the sphere grew larger. I wanted to throw the pokeball, wanted to show this Ponyta who’s the boss. But I couldn’t. I couldn’t bring myself to do this. I had to give it a respectful capture.

I walked forward to the outline in the smog. As I grew closer to the Ponyta, I could make out it’s features again. Torch floated down beside me, and I crouched down by the Ponyta.

“Hey girl, you fought very well. You’r amazing. I know you can survive out here on your own. As much as I’d like to just catch you right now, I want you to make the choice. Do you want to travel with me?” I asked, holding the Parkball just above her nose.

    OOC: yay for no typical throw the ball @AmericanTreeFrog;

Damian pulled out a Park Ball from his bag and walked over to the struggling Ponyta, enlarging it as he did so. Together, he and the Chandelure approached the panting Pokemon cautiously. He knelt down and stared at the Pokemon for a heartbeat before speaking.

“Hey girl, you fought very well. You’re amazing. I know you can survive out here on your own. As much as I’d like to just catch you right now, I want you to make the choice. Do you want to travel with me?”

He placed the Park Ball directly in front of Ponyta’s snout and backed up. The Ponyta looked at the Park Ball then at Damian. A look passed through its eyes and I knew what would happen next. The Ponyta rose to its limbs and kicked the ball back at Damian, landing it right in front of him. Its knees were wobbly, but the Pokemon seemed firm in its resolve.

It lifted its nose to the sun and closed its eyes. It started to glow and I realized it was trying to use the move Morning Sun, one that would heal the Pokemon by half its health.

I turned to Damian and said, “it’s trying to heal, you either have to stop it or capture it.”

I backed up, and Ponyta looked at me. A stare flashed across her eyes, and I feared what happened next. Bringing her front leg forward, she kicked the ball right back at me. The sphere tumbled end over end, coming to a halt right In front of me. I bent down and grabbed the ball, putting it back into my pocket.

Backing up, Ponyta got to her feet. She wobbled, and I knew that any damage would KO her. I had to think very carefully about what I was going to do. I could throw another parkball, but she was fighting being caught. What was I going to do…

What would I do with a Ponyta? Keep it? Trade it? I heard Geofffery was looking for Pokemon to help him apply for Striaton. Maybe I’d give it to him. Ya, I could give it to him. He was my first trainer, my first trainer I lead through the park.

I remembered that day. Fighting different Pokemon, watching him and his Metagross connect in battle, that day was fun, my first ranger trip, his first trip. Maybe I’d have to get ahold of him here one of these days and we’d go out again. That would be fun. He was a nice guy. Definitely smart when it came to Pokemon. I’d like to see him again, see how much he’s grown. I knew he was a rookie when I took him through, and he could have only gone up from there, so he had to be doing good.

Or, I could keep the Ponyta. I could raise it to its full potential; raise it to fight alongside torch as we beat gym after gym. Maybe one day Ponyta would evolve into Rapidash, and become even more of a fighter then it is now. We could beat the whole URPG league together. This Ponyta, along with my other Pokemon, could rule the league. We could be a family…

I flashed back to the battle. Ponyta still waddled there, staring at me. I looked to Torch, wondering what to do. I knew I wanted to catch the Pony, I just didn’t know what to do. Did I want to use a Parkball? Maybe a Superball; or a Hyperball?

I reached into my pocket, coming to a decision. I knew that this was it. I was going to catch the Pony this time. Screw the sympathy. I chucked a parkball, and it flew through the air, flipping end over end. The ball struck her, and I watched closely, praying to Arceus I would catch her.

Damian picked up the ball Ponyta had sent back to him and looked intently at the Pokemon. I could tell he was deciding the next course of action to take or not to take. After that failed attempt he might simply decided that he didn’t really want the Pokemon, it had happened before. Or maybe he was thinking of a move combination to make the capture attempt easier to succeed.

I saw a flash of resolve in her eyes and knew that he was going to go for the Pokemon. He reached into his pocket and withdrew another Parkball, in its small form. He enlarged the device and threw it at Ponyta.

The ball sailed through the air and collided with the Ponyta, sucking the Pokemon inside it. The Parkball wiggled as the Ponyta struggled to break free, but the ball settled in the earth a moment later, the Ponyta was just too weak to fight it.

I walked over and scooped up the caught Pokemon. “A little shaker there towards the end, but you got the Pokemon,” I said to Damian.
