"Well, I suppose so," Seq sighed, looking ahead into the darkness of the cave. It was eerie, and his Pokemon didn’t seem too willing to follow – save for Pi. She was always willing to have an adventure anywhere she went. Hopping up and down on NASCAR’s back, Pi squealed in delight.

“You can’t be serious,” the trainer said, looking over at his youngest Pokemon.

She simply smiled and kicked the Gastrodon as one would a horse, urging him deeper into the cave. Lana followed closely behind, keeping an eye on the two troublemakers as Lonnie drifted fearfully beside his master.

“Yeah, it’s nice to see you again, Leo,” the man said in defeat, heading into the cave’s entrance from the north.

Standing before the gang of youths was a wide-eyed Shinx, looking at the party as if it were something unholy.

“I don’t think we’re going to get past this thing without a battle,” the scientist mused aloud.

Lana sighed, nodding her head at the obvious statement.

“Who’ll go at it?”

“RAI! RAI!” Pi leapt up and down excitedly.

“No, not you,” the man glared, picking her up and setting her gently on the ground. “You’re electric too, you know. Let’s give NASCAR some spot light.”

NASCAR looked at his trainer with dull, vacant eyes. He gurgled a bit, foam coming from his mouth. The garbled sounds he made sounded oddly like the engine of a car.

Seq groaned, placing a palm to his forehead. Lana copied the movement, having practiced her Mirror Move. “Just get in there!”

NASCAR scooted towards the Shinx, leaving behind a trail of water.

“Just try to coat it down and give it a little power. Mud Bomb, if you will,” the man commanded, pointing at the blue lion.

Looking at the tiny electric Pokemon, the Gastrodon tilted his head and opened his mouth. Cough, cough, cough. Up from his throat, slight chunks of mud landed on the ground. Pi turned away in disgust.

The mounds of dirt now littering the floor of the cave began to glow an odd pink color as they lifted and melted together, combining with the trail of water Gastrodon naturally leave behind.

“Come on now, NASCAR,” Seq pointed at the amorphous blob, “You can do this.”

The Gastrodon turned his head around in a complete 180. It was odd. Most Pokemon (save for Noctowl) couldn’t do this, but being composed mainly of a unique, gel like substance, his body could maneuver in odd ways. “Rooooo?”

“Hm. Shinx still seems pretty okay. Let’s try something else. Think you can summon a small surf in here?”

Lana instantly snapped her head, glaring at the tall man for even suggesting such a thing! “Blazi,” she warned, her voice low.

Lonnie, sensing the tone in her voice, went and hid behind Leo – who was being a lazy bum and wasn’t doing a darned thing.

“D-Don’t worry, Lana. You’ll be fine. I promise,” the man said, trying his best to please his Pokemon. “Now NASCAR, don’t hold back! I’ll be watching out for us over here. I know you can do it, yeah?”

More foam dripped down the slug’s face in response. That usually meant yes.

“Surf that Shinx!”

Hearing his master’s command, NASCAR returned to looking ahead at the cute Pokemon. The water that had been dripping from his behind, as well as the foam on his lips and the liquid excretions of the cave began to swell together, forming a wall of water, ready to move.

“Chu! Chu!” Pi smiled, jumping up and down, though really – it wasn’t from the victory. It was from being able to climb aboard NASCAR again and ride him like a pony.

“Well now, are we all happy?”

“Jum,” Lonnie said quietly, floating over an odd item in the middle of the floor.

Seq ventured forth to peer at it. “Hey Leo, it’s an apricorn! Can I take it with me?”

The Ranger said nothing, which was odd. Leo was usually so talkative. Maybe he was possessed or something. Couldn’t put it past this creepy cave.

Shrugging, the scientist picked up the Black Apricorn and placed it in his bag. “West it is, then.”

“Oh, a Tympole? Well, it looks pretty harmless,” Seq smiled, turning to his team.

Pi glared, crossing her arms. Being part ground nullified her sharp, electric attacks. Lana also ruffled her feathery mane, being weak to both ground and water. NASCAR drooled a bit. He wouldn’t mind battling again, but Seq didn’t know if he could deal with that.

“How about you, Lonnie? I know you can do it!”

The Jumpluff peeked from behind the stoic Leo, eying the enemy frog.

“Please? It’d mean a lot to me…” the man begged, looking a tad pathetic in the process.

The guilt trip was a tad much, but Lonnie drifted onto the battle field, ready and awaiting orders.

“You’re a careful Pokemon, so attempt to dodge the things it throws at you. If you are hit, it’ll be alright. Pay him back with a Giga Drain!”

Lonnie smiled. Giga Drain was one of his favorite moves, since the feeling of life flowing through his chlorophyll veins made him feel sunny and cheerful. The puff on the top of his head expanded, letting the cotton ball float more nimbly around the area. He was ready for the battle to begin.

ooc; BEE. Heal my Gastrodon with the Scarecrow Mask from the last battle~

Seq smiled, watching his Jumpluff battle well in conditions that weren't suited to his typing. After all, how many cotton balls would one see in a dark, damp cave? Gastrodon practically lived in environments like this. Blaziken used them to train and even Raichu could manage by using their electrical wattage as lanterns in the abyss. Lonnie had none of those things going for him, but being such a careful Pokemon, he was often resourceful and could pull through any situation.

“Just keep it simple and repeat. I know you can do it. Just, be careful. If things look bad, try a Bullet Seed,” the man smiled, motioning for his grass Pokemon to continue its assault.

Lonnie did just that – floating tenderly above the Tympole to get at a better, more advantageous angle. The small, green leafs below the inflated cotton ruffled in anticipation, wiggling from beneath and exposing themselves to absorb the life of the foe.

If of course, that failed, he would still have the one-up on the toad. Deep within his innards were grass knotted seeds, which could be propelled from his mouth in rapid succession.

It seemed that the Tympole had gone down without much retaliation. Lonnie had done his job quite well, and it was time to give him the praise he earned.

"You did fantastic, buddy," Seq laughed, patting the flying cotton on his back. Pi squeaked in agreement, always elated to watch a battle. She rarely participated anymore, so watching was a good way to get her kicks.

Lonnie simply returned the gesture with a small smile and went back to surveying the cave. It was always a bonus to be cautious.

“Perhaps it’ll be your turn next, eh Lana?”

“Blaz,” she responded, waving a hand nonchalantly.

“Well, to the north it is, then – since that’s the only door,” the trainer stated.

“What’s that?”

“Blaziken,” she responded, not getting any sort of action from the item.

“Ah well, just put it back and we’ll go on. To the north… again?”

“Oh wow,” Seq mused, looking around the cavern. “There’s quite a few options, huh?”

He was met with nothing more than random babble from NASCAR.

“Er… right. Okay. I think we’ll go-“

“ELECTRODE!” In front of the party stood a large Pokeball with a face that looked highly suspicious – almost as if it were propositioning the party for something illegal.

“Don’t think we can go anywhere just yet, huh? Alright. Let’s try this again, go NASCAR!”

The odd slug lurched forward, allowing Pi to get off his back once again.

“Try to Surf this Pokemon,” the scientist commanded.

NASCAR obliged, letting the drool foaming in the corner of his mouth drip downwards. It pooled with the water in the cave, as well as the waves the pink gel was producing. It was odd to watch, the Gastrodon letting out such extraordinary amounts of liquid, but what do you know? A swell of water began to curl behind him, pushing him forth on the wave.

Seq glared at Leo. Wasn’t a Ranger supposed to know better? Electric attacks don’t affect Ground-type Pokemon!

“But they do if he’s wet,” Leo explained.

The man was startled, hearing the Ranger speak for the first time in a while.

“But that’s ridiculous,” he whined. “That would mean Quagsire wouldn’t be immune to Electric attacks either, just because of their typing? What is that?”

Leo said nothing, reverting to silence once more.

“Fine,” the man sighed, turning his sights back onto the battle.
