    OOC: Feel free to ask me any question you have ^^

    ~~~~~
    I took a deep breath before moving my foot slowly out over the pond. Dual was watching me closely, and his helmet and chest-spike was glowing bright blue. As my foot came down onto the water's surface, I felt some resistance that wasn't normally there. I put my weight onto it and the water felt like Jello.
    I was practising using Dual's telekinetic powers through our mental link by walking on water. It was one of the more simple techniques and it was the one Dual had chosen to make me practise. I didn't deny it would be useful, but I'd much rather be spending my time watching Ivy or chatting up some secretaries.
    I took a few more steps out onto the pond, windmilling my arms in an attempt to keep my balance. A sudden shout from behind me caused me to lose concentration, and I sunk waist-deep into the water. I swore and turned around to see Buzz laughing at me.
    "Why don't you stop embarrassing yourself for a little bit and go take a run?" he asked. "We're getting a little bit close to our limit."
    "What about you?" I grumbled, climbing out of the pond.
    "I'm off on a run with a pretty young Trainer who's looking for a relationship," he retorted.
    "I'm pretty sure she doesn't want the relationship you could offer her," I said.
    Before Buzz could respond, I nodded to Dual and the world began to swirl and become tinted blue. I gave up trying to concentrate on the shapes and objects that swirled around me. When they started to resolve themselves, I saw that I was at the gate to Mount Oktori. I quickly darted inside the Outpost to grab an overcoat. My Trainer would be here soon - hopefully the receptionist would know to send his details to my PDA.
    OOC: Italics are things I'm thinking to myself. If this is too weird, please IM me to change it. Like my first story, this also might be a little too basic. How's this?
    Trees were becoming scarce, the plants were reduced to nothing but grasses, and a heavy chill hung in the air. I could tell I was getting closer to the mountain. A gust of wind coming from the path ahead whisked past me bringing a wave of cold with it.
    "Gotta love the cold," I thought to myself as I pulled a heavy coat out of my backpack and hastily put it on.
    Finally reaching the base of the crag, I gazed up at the majesty of the towering peak. I knew for certain that there would be plenty of wild Pokemon I could catch. The path dead-ended at a small building with a man dressed in an overcoat standing outside.
    "That's probably my Ranger. If I remember what the registration person told me, his name is Chainy," I thought to myself as I walked closer to the building.
    "You must be my Ranger. I'm Bill Mason. Nice to meet you," I said to the coated man as I extended my hand for a handshake.
    OOC: I am so so sorry this is taking a long time, I've gotten lazy in my holidays. If I haven't posted for you on any given day and it's my turn to do so, feel free to boot me up the ass on AIM.
    ~~~~~

    I made sure I had all my essentials on me - the three Ps, as they'd become known. Pokemon, pack, pistol. I was the only Ranger who carried around a firearm, mainly because as an Elite Ranger I was able to ignore a couple of the rules occasionally, one of them being a ban on firearms. The Boss had once told me off, but thankfully he hadn't overruled me. I'd spent too much time and money modifying and customizing it to not use it.

    The finishing touch to my preparations was to grab a large black coat and throw it over me entirely, covering my pack and Ranger uniform. I then walked back out into the gently drifting snow, enjoying the brisk cold. I loathed heat in all its forms, so an expedition to Oktori was always enjoyable.

    I'd only been standing there for a couple minutes when I spotted a young man down the hill from the Outpost, making his way up here. No doubt it was my Trainer, but as Headquarters hadn't sent his file through yet I didn't know his name or anything about him.

    "You must be my Ranger. I'm Bill Mason. Nice to meet you," he said as he reached me and held his hand out for me to shake. I took it and shook it warmly.

    "Hey there Bill, my name is James Carter but I'm known around here as Chainy," I said to him, turning to the gate, which was closed. "Now to get this stupid thing open so we can start your expedition."

    I bit off a small sliver of one of my fingernails and put it on a small scanner. A small red light buzzed back and forth as it identified my DNA. The laser blinked green and the gate opened inwards slowly but silently. I swept the fingernail fragment onto the snowy ground and led Bill in. Before I could ask him where he wanted to go, a small white Pokemon floated up in front of us, calling a greeting in a high-pitched, chiming voice. Its head was bigger than its body, making it look childlike, and small pieces of snow and ice floated around it.

    "Interested in trying to capture a Vanillite?" I asked Bill.

    OOC: I'm so sorry this took over a week. I made a few modifications from what I sent you in the IM. This should be a little better
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The gate opened slowly in front of us. At the sight of this, I didn't even care that I was shivering. My expedition was about to begin, and I knew I would come out with some new partners. Chainy looked like he had something on the tip of his tongue before something jumped in front of us. A piercing yet pleasant cry reached my ears as a small ice cream cone shaped Pokemon floated around. It had an round orb-like shaped head affixed to a cone body with spikes protruding through at various points.

    "I think I'm seeing things,"
    I thought to myself. Fortunately, Chainy's next question managed to reassure me.

    "Interested in trying to capture a Vanillite?" my Ranger asked.

    Soon, I realized I wasn't hallucinating, and my mind returned to normal. Recollecting my knowledge of the local area and its Pokemon, I started reasoning about what I should do next. At first, I wanted to try to pass it up since they're common around these parts. But as I reasoned more, I realized that a Vanilluxe would serve me well on my team and I could always use at least one.

    "Actually, I think I'm gonna go for this one," I said as I put my hand on a Pokeball on my belt.

    "Alright Swampert, here we go!" I shouted as I threw the red and white ball on the ground. A flash of white jetted from the opened Pokeball, and when it faded, the large mudfish Pokemon appeared in front of me. Swampert's powerful eyes at the ends of its large sensory fins on the top of his head became fixed upon the swirly light-blue eyes of the Vanillite. Swampert then stood on his hind legs and began to hop around back and forth alternating its legs as it hit the ground.

    "Wow, you have a lot of energy today, I see," I said to Swampert.

    It looked back at me with a smile and then turned back around. It was still shuffling it's legs out of pure excitement, anxiously awaiting a move.

    "Alright Swampert, you know the drill. Hammer Arm on my mark!"

    Swampert stood on his hind legs began charging toward the floating Vanillite. It swung its arm high into the air mid-dash as if it were about to smash a large boulder into tiny rock fragments. It drew closer….closer….closer till it was face-to-face with the ice-cream cone-like Pokemon.

    "NOW!!!" I shouted.

    At the sound of his trainers command, Swampert swung its mighty arm down toward the Vanillite with all it's might.

    OOC: It's not a problem dude, take your time. And this is a great post ^^

    ~~~~~
    "Actually, I think I'm gonna go for this one," Bill said as he drew a PokeBall off his belt and tossed it into the air in front of him. "Alright Swampert, here we go!"
    A bright white light was emitted from the PokeBall, although it wasn't as violently bleaching as usual. Probably because the whiteness of the snow all around us dampened the effect. There was always snow at Mt Oktori, mainly because snow was almost always falling. It was only light at the moment, and the wind was gentle, but definitely noticeable.
    When I could focus past the light, I saw a Swampert jumping from side to side like a kangaroo. This one seemed more active and excitable than my own Swampert, Smash, although not by much - when he was a Mudkip he had an insatiable wanderlust and curiosity to rival a toddler's.
    "Wow, you have a lot of energy today, I see," Bill remarked.
    Swampert looked back at his Trainer and grinned, still shuffling. It seemed eager to start the battle, which was always a promising sign.
    "Alright Swampert, you know the drill. Hammer Arm on my mark!" Bill called out.
    Swampert began running forwards on his hind legs, holding his right arm high into the air. I was interested by this - Swampert were by nature quadrupedal Pokemon, but this one seemed to be more comfortable on its back legs. I wondered if that was the result of some training or simply a personality quirk.
    The Vanillite chimed a battle cry and began to hover towards the Swampert, apparently intending to intercept it. A few clouds of snow began to hover up off the ground behind it, following its path through the air closely.
    "Now!" Bill shouted as Swampert got right up close to his opponent. The Water-type Pokemon brought his arm swiftly down, crashing it against the Ice-type. The Vanillite was thrown down towards the ground, but it managed to maintain its levitation. The snow that was following the Ice-type kept its trajectory and hit Swampert, swirling around him and sticking to him. Swampert grumbled and backed away, and I could see that the snow was impeding his movements.
    "You'll have to be careful, it looks like Swampert's been hit by an Icy Wind attack," I said to Bill.
    OOC: This might sound a little too simple for a combo. What do you think?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    SMASH!!! Swampert's rock-hard arm impacted the tiny Vanillite, and it soon was staggering toward the ground. It almost fell completely, but somehow was still able to float.
    All of a sudden, I felt a breath of coldness pierce the hood of my jacket. The wind began to pick up; it was not long until I was able to feel tiny icy shards zooming past my face. It soon became unbearable, so I put a hand over my face obstructing everything from view. When the breeze died down, there was Swampert in front of me, barely scathed but it appeared that the snow was sticking to his joints and slowing him down. No doubt the energy expense from that last Hammer Arm wasn't helping.
    "You'll have to be careful, it looks like Swampert's been hit by an Icy Wind attack," Chainy said to me.
    I had heard about that attack. I knew it involved an incredibly cold air current that carried ice crystals and snow toward its victim. Not to mention the painful effects of the wind chill. Swampert still had a smile on his face, but I could see a greater amount of effort put into his movements. He was covered with ice made from the frozen snow; everywhere from the brown ridges on his arms to the sensory fins on his head.
    "I can't keep doing this to him. Plus, if I tried another hammer arm, Vanillite would totally see him coming."
    My mind rapidly searched for options before….
    "Yes, that would work!"
    "Swampert, remember the move we practiced?"
    The Swampert turned his head back at me and showed me a big smile. It nodded at me several times; he already knew what I was talking about. Swampert put one of its hands on the ground and started moving it slowly like a metal detector. He closed his eyes as well to maximize his other senses making himself look like a priest in meditation. His hand stopped suddenly as he turned around and shouted "Swamp, Swamp!"
    "You found the tender spot? Then go for it! Use Earthquake!"
    Wasting no time, Swampert slammed both of his fists on the ground at the exact spot where his hand was. A crack formed from where it smashed that slowly creeped over toward its target until it was right under the floating Ice-type. The crack split into two, one jetting from the opponent's left, the other from the right. Suddenly the ground began splitting at the site of the crack until it was about four and a half feet across. Immediately, sharp rocks shot out of the split in the earth trying to pierce its target.
    Bill seemed to be taking my advice to heart, which was good to see. Too many Trainers ignored my advice and rushed headlong into disaster. He seemed to be thinking hard, watching as the Vanillite stabilised its wobbly hovering and and Swampert scratched as the snow that was stuck on its leg. Finally, he seemed to come to a decision.
    "Swampert, remember the move we practiced?" he asked his Pokemon.
    Swampert looked over his shoulder at his Trainer and grinned before nodding several times. I didn't know what to expect but apparently it was a move these two had been working on for some time.
    The huge Mud Fish Pokemon held his hand out almost gingerly over the snow, moving it slowly over the ground in a gently expanding spiral. It made me think of the bomb sweepers in the army that were used to detect hidden underground landmines. I was curious to see exactly what Swampert was doing, especially because I was pretty sure the Vanillite wasn't going to wait around politely.
    It didn't. It began swaying from side to side, and the gentle downward drifting of snowflakes was replaced by the much more violent falling of small shards of ice. I pulled my coat hood over my head to ward off the chunks of hail. I was thankful this was an unevolved Pokemon - its evolved forms would produce a noticeably stronger hail storm than this.
    Swampert suddenly shouted, and I noticed his hand was hovering firmly over what seemed to be a random spot on the ground. He looked back at his Trainer, as if requesting a command.
    "You found the tender spot? Then go for it! Use Earthquake!" Bill yelled.
    Swampert turned back to the battle at hand and raised both of his arms into the air before bringing both his fists crashing down on the spot his hand had been not five seconds ago. A crack in the ground began zigzagging towards the Vanillite, and when the fissure was right underneath the Ice-type it split in opposite directions and some jagged rocks were forced upwards towards the Wild Pokemon. It was knocked into the air with a squeal, and it landed with a puff of powdery snow on the ground. Swampert chuckled happily.
    The crack crept toward the floating ice cream cone-like Pokemon and split into two right under it. A brief second of silence came over the battlefield before……
    BAM!!!!! Jagged rocks shot up from the chasm and knocked Vanillite into the air like a home run! The ice-type soon came crashing back down to earth. Though it landed in a pile of snow, I'm sure the blow dealt by the rocks was incredibly painful. Swampert began to chuckle; his enemy was finally laying flat on the ground.
    "Alright, Swampert!! Way to go!" I said as I raised my hand for a high five.
    Swampert turned at me with a big smile on his face and slapped his strong blue hand against mine.
    Suddenly, something hard hit my top of my shoulder right inside the collarbone. It didn't hurt that bad since my coat was on, but it sent a shock wave down my entire arm and my back. Seconds later, another hard object hit the top of my head. I extended my hand a little in front of me, and what I caught I almost couldn't believe. Chunks of marble-sized hail were falling out of the sky on everybody. Swampert was slightly disturbed by this feeling but still maintained his high energy, showing it by keeping the smile on its face. The Vanillite, on the other hand, didn't seem to care; it look perfectly content with the weather change.
    "Poor Swampert's gonna keep getting pelted with Hail. I have to end this soon"
    Vanillite still looked like it had energy left to fight. I needed a way to weaken it.
    "I could use it….. but I know Swampert doesn't seem to care for this move. He's gotten better at using it though. If he gets mad, I'll make it up to him."
    I turned to my mudfish Pokemon and said, "Swampert, I know how you hate doing this, but we need to weaken that Vanillite some more. Are you ok with using Toxic?"
    Swampert was immediately disgusted, putting his hand over his mouth to show it. He didn't want to do it at first, but then he realized that it was necessary for his master to catch the floating Ice-type. Swampert gathered all the energy it could muster, and gave me a determined nod.
    I pulled a Park Ball out of my backpack to hurl at the enemy if the attack connected.
    "Just make sure you hit it so you don't have to use it again. Use Toxic!!!"
    Swampert placed both his fists on the ground and leaned back taking in a deep breath of air. By the time he was at a 120 degree angle with the ground, he let loose a massive ball of poisonous liquid that came surging toward the hovering Vanillite. Not even a blink of an eye later, Swampert turned away from the Vanillite and began shoveling snow into his mouth. No doubt the poison must have tasted horrible. I, however, kept my focus on the flying purple ball, shifting my arm back a little to ready the Park Ball in my hand.
    OOC: I can't believe I haven't asked this yet. What gender is Vanillite?
    ~~~~~

    "Alright, Swampert!! Way to go!" Bill cried joyously. He held up his hand and Swampert turned around to give him a big meaty high-five. I grinned - it was good to see a Trainer working so closely with his Pokemon - but breaking battle concentration would have been a bad idea if the Wild Pokemon was a Machamp or something.

    The hail kept falling, and I was thankful that the pieces weren't too big. If they got much bigger, though, I'd have to summon one of my own Pokemon and have them create a shield for Bill and me. I didn't like using my Pokemon except in extreme circumstances - oh, and heat. I lothed heat. Seeing as we were on Mount Oktori, however, I didn't foresee high temperatures as being a problem.

    After a moment's thought, Bill gave his command to Swampert. "Swampert, I know how you hate doing this, but we need to weaken that Vanillite some more. Are you ok with using Toxic?" he asked his Pokemon.

    Swampert clearly wasn't impressed - he covered his mouth unhappily. However, he soon relented. He balled out his cheeks and closed his eyes, clearly concentrating on something.

    "Just make sure you hit it so you don't have to use it again. Use Toxic!" Bill called.

    Swampert nodded and he opened his mouth quickly. A big purple sphere that was dripping dark sludge flew through the air towards the Vanillite. I heard small hisses and wisps of pink-ish smoke as shards of hail hit the Toxic attack and were vaporised by the pure poison. The ball splattered all over the floating Vanillite, staining parts of its body purple.

    The Ice-type cried out angrily, and it looked up into the darkened sky. Suddenly, three huge chunks of ice became visible, and they plummeted towards Swampert. I tried to call out a warning but I wasn't fast enough. One of the huge chunks hit Swampert on his left leg, and a second smashed into him squarely on his shoulder. As if to add insult to injury, the last icicle hit him on his left foot. He grunted unhappily, but didn't look too wounded.

    Bill didn't waste any time. He pulled out a Park Ball and tossed it towards the Vanillite. His aim was true, and the little Pokemon was absorbed inside the sphere in a flash of red light that was easily visible against the blue and white backdrop. I saw the brown-and-green ball fall to the snow and wiggle around a bit as the Pokemon inside fought with the capture mechanism. After a couple of seconds, it stilled, and a small red light flashed on the front of the capsule. I walked over and picked it up.

    "Congratulations, you caught the Vanillite," I said to Bill as I stowed the ball away inside my pack.

    OOC: Don't really know what to do next. Please PM/VM/IM me with how this post is. If it doesn't quite add up please tell me. Vanillite is female btw.

    SPLAT!!! The purple ball of toxic waste exploded right at the Vanillite's face. The Ice cream-like hair on the floating ice-type now featured purple spots in various places. The Vanillite clearly was not pleased. The piercing yet pleasant cry that I heard when I first encountered it now turned harsh and dissonant. The sunlight around me began to darken and the air had turned colder.

    "Could it be another Icy Wind?" I thought to myself

    I had wish it was after I saw what happened next. I saw Chainy look at the sky for a brief second; but by the time I looked up, it was too late. A mass of ice came crashing down on to Swampert, striking his left leg. I didn't hear a crack so I didn't think it had broken, but it still looked extremely painful. The Vanillite was just getting started, however. A second one smacked Swampert right on his right shoulder. Before I could rush over to help, a final chunk connected with Swampert's left foot.

    "Swampert!" I shouted as I was about to start running to help him.

    Swampert then shook his head. I had stopped running when I saw this and gave him a confused look. He pointed at me, specifically at my hand. I brought the hand into view and saw the Park Ball that I had taken out.

    "Right," I then said to Swampert as I remembered my objective.

    "Vanillite, you're mine!" I shouted as I chucked the ball at the Fresh Snow Pokemon. The ball connected and Vanillite was taken inside. I couldn't see if the light in the center was still glowing from this distance, but I could see it shaking. It eventually stopped moving, and Chainy walked over and picked up the now-occupied Park Ball.

    "Congratulations, you caught the Vanillite," he told me as he stowed the ball away in his backpack.

    "Awesome! My first catch!" I said loudly. I excitement stayed with me for a couple of seconds before I turned back around and saw Swampert in front of me, scathed and bruised from the ice chunks. It looked up after a second and saw that the Vanillite was gone, it then looked at me with a big smile.

    "You ok?" I said to the injured mudfish Pokemon.

    Swampert nodded happily several times, acting as if the injuries were just scratches.

    "Hey, you did awesome, buddy," I said to him softly.

    Swampert gave me a smile; it knew it had a lot to be proud of.

    "Take a rest. You've earned it," I said as I pointed his Pokeball at him. Swampert became a red light and departed inside the Pokeball. I then turned to my Ranger.

    "I like this so far. Where are we off to now?"

    "Awesome! My first catch!" Bill exclaimed. He then turned to his Swampert to see if it was okay. Swampert nodded happily - his wounds didn't seem to bother him that much. I wasn't really surprised - my own Swampert tended to ignore any injuries he picked up. Besides, it looked like he wasn't too hurt anyway - the snow sticking to his sides made it look worse than it actually was.

    Bill thanked his Pokemon softly and returned it to its PokeBall before turning to me.

    "I like this so far. Where are we off to now?" he asked.

    "Wherever you'd like to go," I replied. "I guess the best thing to do is to head up the mountain - that's where all the stronger Pokemon are."

    I began to lead Bill along the path again, but we didn't get get very far. As soon as we passed the Ranger Outpost I heard a strange rumbling sound. I looked over to the right and a humanoid Pokemon was barreling down the slopes on a rough piece of wood, looking for all the world like a naked snowboarder. Well, except the black underwear.

    The Machoke dismounted and walked up in front of us. It snorted, and beat its chest like a gorilla. Anyone, not just a Ranger, would have known what that meant.

    "The Machoke wants to battle you," I said to Bill. "Feeling up for it?"

    OOC: I'm gonna try to pass this one up since I have a story pending for Machop
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    "Wherever you'd like to go," Chainy respoded. "I guess the best thing to do is to head up the mountain - that's where all the stronger Pokemon are."

    "Strong Pokemon? Let's do this," I thought to myself.

    "Sure, that sounds good." I said to my Ranger.

    We began moving further away from the gate as we slowly ascended up the snowy mountain path. Fortunately, we weren't too far up so the temperature was acceptable for now. Also, the wind had stopped so I let down my hood to soak up whatever sun I could. The heat from the suns rays kissed my head and neck bringing a satisfying warmth down my entire body.

    Suddenly, the tranquility was broken at the sound of a slight rumble coming from higher up. Was it an avalanche? Nope. It was a human-like figure in the distance sliding down the mountain at a thrilling speed. The figure began to clarify itself revealing brown ridges on its head. "Seriously?" I thought to myself as I recognized the belt and black underwear. I began chuckling to myself when I recognized it was a Machoke riding a piece of wood as a snowboard. It landed about a few feet away from us and got off its board, splashing some snow on me during the landing.

    "Nicely done," I said to the Superpower Pokemon as a I swept the snow off my coat.

    But it wasn't there just to fish for complements. The Machoke simply gave me a grunt and began smashing his chest as if it was trying to show off his fortitude at a bar fight.

    "The Machoke wants to battle you," My Ranger pointed out. "Feeling up for it?"

    At first, I figured a Machoke would be a powerful asset to my team. This one seemed eager to fight as well. But unfortunately, they were also common, and I had better areas to explore.

    "Uhhh, I don't think so," I objected. "I've got to keep moving up the mountain; I just don't have time for a battle right now."

    "Uhhh, I don't think so," Bill declined. "I've got to keep moving up the mountain; I just don't have time for a battle right now."

    The Machoke huffed and crossed its arms as it walked away. It clearly wasn't going to waste any time on what it considered to be such a weak Trainer. Personally, I was confused about Bill's wording - what was his big hurry? Perhaps he just wanted to locate the more powerful Pokemon higher up on the mountain.

    "Alright, well let's just move on then," I said to Bill. I wrapped my cloak tighter around myself and led my Trainer up the mountain. It was the middle of the day, which meant that soon it'd be getting really cold. This was also made true by the fact that we were proceeding steadily upwards. At least it was still hills and trees - it'd be all rocks and cliff faces soon.

    I heard a gentle tinkling sound and I looked to my left. Another white/blue Vanillite was approaching us curiously, keeping low to the ground and shooting us worrisome looks. I shrugged, but I was still a little disappointed. Despite the large variety of Pokemon in each area, it was very common for Trainers to run across multiple individuals of the same species in their Expeditions.

    "I don't suppose you want to try battling a second Vanillite?" I asked Bill.

    Machoke just walked away from me with its head hung high, its arms crossed to show that he didn't have time to mess with people like me. Ooooh, I oughta….." I thought angrily to myself at his rather rude display of pride. I snapped out of it though and realized that there was still more of the mountain to explore. I would have shown that Machoke who was boss, but I was just too busy.

    "Alright, well let's just move on then," Chainy said to me. We continued along the mountain trail which was sloping increasingly as we journeyed further. It was hard to walk the hill sometimes, but it beats climbing a rock wall any day.

    Suddenly a familiar cry pierced my ears again. "I know that voice, I thought to myself. Chainy turned to his left and spotted another white Vanillite inching closer to us. The Fresh Snow Pokemon seemed scared to death; it must have a fear of battling, but its desire to have a trainer must have overpowered his fear (though not by much). Chainy appeared disappointed as he asked me, "I don't suppose you want to try battling a second Vanillite?"

    I stood there trying to formulate my opinions. I just looked down at the timid Ice-type and said, "Sorry, one of your friends found me first."

    "Sorry, one of your friends found me first," Bill said, sounding a little sad.

    The Vanillite lost a little bit of the fear in its eyes but continued to creep forward. It reached my leg and rubbed its soft body against one of the side pockets of my trousers. I laughed suddenly, realising what the little Fresh Snow Pokemon wanted. One of the treats I always carried around with me. I opened the pocket and fished out one of the cookies - they were yellow, crumbly, and had an inner layer of icing that Pokemon loved. The Vanillite happily took the cookie and floated away, nibbling on the treat as it did so.

    "Alright, let's move on," I said as I led my Trainer higher up the mountain. It began to snow, but only gently - white puffs of powder drifting down from the sky to cover the ground and our jackets. I was so busy watching the snowflakes move that I didn't realise another Pokemon was approaching us until its footsteps were crunching right behind us. I spun around and saw a short humanshape Pokemon with purple skin and long blonde hair. It looked up at us and tilted its head questioningly, as if asking us why we were here.

    "How about a Jynx?" I asked.

    OOC: Another mart mon. Pass it up if I can. Also, this post is before Bill became a Ranger
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The timid ice type became a little less saddened when he heard my words as he drew a little closer to Chainy. I was confused at first when I saw it began to rub itself against the Ranger's leg. "What could it be doing?" I thought to myself before Chainy pulled out a yellow crisp-like treat from his pocket. The floating Pokemon returned a smile showing its gratitude as it leviated away from the two of us. It was nice to see the Rangers always thinking of ways to keep the park Pokemon happy; I knew that would be an important quality if I were to ever become a ranger.

    "Alright, let's move on," Chainy said as he started walking ahead. I nodded in return as I followed behind him. A gentle breeze carrying a few tufts of snow was blowing at this part of the mountain. This did make the journey a bit colder, but anything was better than that pelting hail from the other Vanillite I caught. Not to mention that it was only going to get colder from here.

    Suddenly, I heard the snow crackle behind me. "We're being followed!" I thought to myself as I spun myself around a full 180 degrees. Fortunately, it was just a Pokemon that had managed to catch up with us. The human-like figure turned its head sideways intriguingly, its long blond hair swaying in the slight breeze that carried the snow.

    "How about a Jynx?" Chainy asked.

    I knew Jynx was a rather unique Pokemon being Ice and Psychic type, but like the others before it, it was also extremely common. I was starting to wonder when the rarer Pokemon would appear.

    "Uhh not this one," I said with a saddened look on my face. "I want to keep moving and see if I can spot something more rare."

    OOC: Just the post? Wouldn't it make more sense to set the whole Expedition as pre-Ranger? Also, I'm assuming you want to buy a PokeDoll to run from the Jynx, so subtract $500 from your stats. If you don't want to, drop me a VM and I'll edit my post.

    ~~~~~
    Bill didn't look too enthused about battling the Jynx. I couldn't say I blamed him - he'd had a decidedly average run of luck so far in this Expedition.
    "Uhh not this one," he said. "I want to keep moving and see if I can spot something more rare."
    "Fair enough," I said. "The Jynx doesn't look like it'll leave us alone so I'll throw it a doll. Got five hundred on you?"
    Bill passed me a wad of notes and I chucked a Nidorino-shaped plush toy at the human-shaped Pokemon. It picked the doll up with a smile and nursed it her arms like a mother holds her child. She then walked away, completely immersed in caring for her new possession. I smiled and led Bill further up the mountain. We climbed over a small rock pile and I took a look around - somewhere near here there should be a staircase carved into the mountain. It was the easiest way to get near to the summit.
    It took a few minutes to locate the staircase. I warned Bill to be careful - the snow and ice made it slippery - and we began our ascent up the staircase. Almost as soon as we started the climb I heard a majestic cry. I turned around and saw an Articuno winging its way up to the very top of the mountain from somewhere in the east.
    "Well, you said you wanted to see something rare." I grinned.
    OOC: You know me so well. $32250 - 500 = $31750. Also, you're right. That's what I meant xD. I was just thinking about the post alone at the time. So yeah, this whole RP is before Bill became a Ranger lol.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    The annoying Jynx just kept following us, refusing to leave us alone. It was impossible to ignore too; it wasn't the softest sounding Pokemon in the world.
    "Fair enough," Chainy commented. "The Jynx doesn't look like it'll leave us alone so I'll throw it a doll. Got five hundred on you?"
    "Yep," I said as I pulled out a wad of bills from my coat pocket and handed them to my Ranger. Chainy immediately began searching through his backpack and pulled out a purple Nidorino doll. Wasting no time, he tossed into the air toward the persistent Ice and Psychic type. Jynx rushed over to it and began rocking the doll back and forth in its arms. Chainy smiled at me now that the annoying Pokemon was finally off our backs. I didn't have time to watch to the cute episode, though. I wanted to keep moving.
    With no distractions to stop us, we pressed onward up the mountain. There were a couple of boulder piles lying around, one of them we had to climb over. Chainy began walking slower, confusing me with his reduced speed. He also started turning his head; was he looking for something. Finally, his gaze became affixed on a staircase extending further up the trail. No doubt that would be a lot easier to navigate than a rock wall or something else. Chainy was quick to warn me about the ice on the stairs; if he hadn't told me before I took my first step, I would have been in for a trip.
    A pleasant cry suddenly pierced my ears. Looking around, I saw nothing in front of me or behind me. Chainy was looking up at the sky. So I looked up too, and I could not believe my eyes. A large bird with blue plummage was flying by us toward the very top of the mountain. It's ribbon-like tail swayed in the slight breeze, and its wings shone like ice. I had heard of a Pokemon like this when my mother told me Pokemon legends when I was young. This was undoubtedly Aritcuno, the Freeze Pokemon. I had never seen something so majestic ever come this close to me.
    "Well, you said you wanted to see something rare," Chainy said with a smile.
    Now this was my definition of rare. Quickly, I set my backpack on the ground and dug my hand into it. I didn't even take my eyes off the large blue bird. My hand moved around inside the bag relentlessly as it placed itself on different objects. Finally, I felt resistance in the shape of a box as I snatched it out of my bag. The lens on the digital camera quickly extended as I pointed it at the picture perfect Articuno.
    Bill placed his bag on the step in front of him and began scrabbling around inside it. After a couple of seconds he pulled out a digital camera, something I was glad to see. I advised all Park newcomers to purchase cameras - they usually paid for themselves by the end of the second run. Bill aimed the camera upwards and pressed the picture button. A small flash blinked out from the machine as the Articuno's image was recorded. I quickly accessed the camera wirelessly using my visor - the picture was a good shot. The majestic bird's wings were spread wide and its ribbon-like tail extended almost around its body.
    The Articuno disappeared over the mountain and I turned back to Bill. "Alright, let's move on," I said to him. He nodded and we continued our climb up the staircase.
    Five minutes later we hit a problem. A rock slide had damaged the staircase and forced us out onto a ledge, a plateau cut into the side of the mountain. The ledge was easily thirty feet wide, and well protected from the wind and snow. A large tunnel into the mountain was visible on the other edge of the plateau. I was about to suggest to Bill that we make for it when I heard a repetitive crashing sound.
    I looked in the direction of the sound - it was coming from the cave. It got louder and louder, and finally a large Pokemon emerged. A brown human-shaped Pokemon emerged from the cave. It had a large red nose and strange purple bracings crisscrossing its chest. That wasn't the most interesting thing about the Pokemon, though - it held two large concrete pillars in its hands and was using them both like walking sticks. It saw us and roared a challenge.
    "Wow, you're quite lucky to come across a Conkeldurr," I said to Bill. "Want to try catching it?"
    With the snap of a flash, the breathtaking moment of Articuno's appearance was written into the camera's memory. I had no intention of taking my eyes off of it; this kind of chance was once in a lifetime. "One day…" I thought to myself as the legendary ice bird vanished over the summit. When the euphoria ended and I started to calm down again, I pressed the review button on the camera to check how my shot came out. The LCD screen flashed on as the memory was being accessed. When the loading finished, I saw that I had managed to get it with its wings fully extended as it glided across the snowy background. Its tail had caught the wind at just the perfect angle to thread itself along the Freeze Pokemon's body.
    Chainy managed to bring me back down to earth when he suggested, "Alright, let's move on."
    I nodded in response, my mind still blown from the previous encounter. I almost slip and fell as we resumed ascending the staircase. I remembered that Chainy warned me about that, but that Articuno sighting wiped out my short term memory completely. The near-slip managed to capture my focus once more as I watched out for ice.
    Looking back on this, I have enjoyed my National Park run greatly. I've encountered all kinds of Pokemon, some rare some common. I even got to see a legendary. Vanillite, my first catch was just step one in my journey. I was waiting for all the other secrets the park had in store for me.
    Unfortunately, my stroll down memory lane was ended as Chainy and I ran into a roadblock. It seemed that a large pile of rocks hindered us from climbing the rest of the stairs. Luckily, there was a flattened land mass off to side of the path. Chainy managed to navigate us to it as we detoured from the blocked staircase. I felt a bit warmer there on the plateau since the snow wasn't hitting me and the wind was blowing another direction; it would have to be spot-on for it blast us. I was wondering what we would do next before I saw a tunnel that extended into the mountain itself. I knew I wanted to explore the top of the mountain, but I never thought about going in it.
    Suddenly, a rumble startled us as we approached the tunnel. It became louder as we waited to see what the noise was. A shadowy figure kept moving toward us before the sunlight finally revealed it. A large brown Pokemon adorned with purple markings came forth from the shadows as its big dark-red nose quivered slightly due to the cold weather. Normally, a man like me would chuckle at the sight of it, but my eyes were caught by something else; something far more intimidating than how funny the nose was. Two shafts of solid concrete were clenched in its fists as the fighting-type handled them effortlessly. It roared at me in a similar way that Machoke did; it seems fighting-types are very competitive.
    "Wow, you're quite lucky to come across a Conkeldurr," Chainy asked me. "Want to try catching it?"
    I looked at the Conkeldurr straight in the face; I could sense the fire in both our eyes. This was something I couldn't just pass up.
    "You bet I do!" I responded. "This one's asking to be caught."
    I pulled a Pokeball off my belt; I knew just the Pokemon for the job.
    "Alright Espeon, you're up!" I shouted as I tossed it on the ground. The ball flew open as a white light emitted and formed the shape of a cat-like Pokemon. Upon fading, there Espeon was, her large ears intently listening for her trainers command and her forked tail moving steadily around to show her focus and willingness to fight. Her red gem also glistened in the sunlight; most people think it's just there for show when it actually aids in her psychic powers.
    Despite my intense desire to return Conkeldurr's challenge, I knew that this battle could not be won if I just tried to barrel my way through it. This one would require me to outsmart him rather than outhitting him. Fortunately, I knew just the trick for the job.
    "Espeon, set up a sand attack! We need to buy some time!" I reasoned to Sun Pokemon.
    Espeon gave a quick nod as her eyes began glowing a faint blue; it did not require a lot of power to set this attack up. Suddenly, she jolted her head upwards and a circle of sand was launched into the air around Conkeldurr creating a thick fog of sand. I was hoping to see if this would obstruct his vision.
    "Good work, Espeon! Now watch out for an attack," I said to prepare her. She followed as she lowered her body slightly to pounce out of the way if she could see Conkeldurr coming. Both of us waited for what would come out of the sand smokescreen.
