(OOC: Please don't say moves work, that's for the Ranger to decide [ie, Protect]. Also, damage done in a battle is generally looked upon as the Trainer's responsibility because they started it. I would also appreciate it if you kept in mind the environment a little more, especially because you are also a Ranger and we should be setting examples for others.)

    BP#4

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Jake called out to his Walrein, and she answered with a strained bark. At least she was mostly okay.

The Trainer seemed stricken for a moment on what to do next. He had to free his Pokémon, and he had to keep an eye on Boldore too. He also had to mind the cave. Because of all the ice and snow, it had made the room a little less stable than it had started, so strong attacks were causing more damage. She knew water seeped into cracks and tiny holes in rock that nobody could really see. When it froze, it expanded and broke the rock apart. They were experiencing that now.

Ivy just waited, watching her breath as it turned from invisible water vapor into a cloud of fog. It was that cold in here. Haji beside her was doing much of the same. He was standing now though, slightly in front of her, tensed for something to happen. He was focusing on something. She could feel it through their mind link.

“What's the matter, Haji?” she asked.

The Espeon closed his eyes for a moment before responding directly to her head. “There are others up ahead, those that feel this ice. They are not pleased. Some young ones are not taking it well.”

She frowned a little, thinking back to that poor Cubone they saw earlier. It had been young too. If some of the wild Pokémon were already starting to react to the temperature change down here, that was a problem. She hoped this battle finished soon.

After thinking a bit, Jake seemed to come to a decision. He released a Pokéball from his belt, and in a flash of light, a Fighting type appeared. It was a Machamp, a bulky gray-colored Pokémon with four arms. If she remembered correctly, they were able to deal a lot of damage and had a keen sense of usually being able to hit their opponent very accurately.

The Trainer turned to his Gallade and his new released partner and instructed them. He wanted them to try and Protect the room, specifically on the wall behind Boldore and on the ceiling where there were cracks. Usually the Protect shield was mostly localized, like how Haji put one up near them. She supposed there was little harm in trying it though.

“Wash yourself free with Surf!” he suddenly called to Sphealia, and Ivy flinched again. Wasn't there some weaker water move she had to get the rocks off?

The water gathered under the Walrein as the two Fighting types focused for their moves. She saw a glinting, green, almost-invisible screen appear above and on the back of the wall, so it looked like that part was good to go. Then, the water surged as Sphealia launched herself forward.

The water followed her in response, and it flew out in all directions in order to free her. The force of it sent the rocks around her flying, and before Ivy could even yell, there was a rock hurtling towards them. She moved her hands up to her face, knowing she'd be too late, but then the rock suddenly stopped and and broke into thousands of pieces on contact of an invisible guard.

She saw the glinting purple, Haji's personal touch on his Protect, and thanked him gratefully in her mind. She didn't bother to send a warning in the Trainer's direction, seeing how it didn't really help them the other times she did. They would just have to be on their feet.

A mini-tidal wave flooded the room, and she flinched again. The water swept forward, washing over the Boldore. Because it was so cold, the water was rapidly turning the floor to ice as it flowed over the already-present ice and snow. It barreled into Boldore, and she slid around the slippery ground, hitting rocks and the walls.

Unfortunately, the wave swept toward Machamp and Gallade too. Since they were concentrating on the Protect, they weren't able to react in time, and the water pushed them both over. They got up right away and looked alright, but their concentration had been broken, and the barriers on the walls disappeared. The water was cold too, so it might've affected their energy too.

That was the next thing. Before either she or Haji could respond, the water came washing over their feet too. She hissed as she felt the icy water through her cargos. Thankfully her boots were thicker, so no water seeped in, but she could still feel the cold. At that second, she was more worried about Haji.

The purple cat had been focused too, and now he was standing in icy cold water. She felt his discomfort from their bond, even though she knew he'd never say anything. The water filtered out down the tunnels eventually, but Haji wasn't built super tough like Gallade or Machamp.

She crouched down to his level. “Are you alright?” She saw him nod, but she wasn't sure. She definitely wasn't going to risk him getting sick or something in the middle of a run.

Making up her mind, she wen to the rock ledge he had been perched on before they had been sent into the ice ages. With a wave of her arm, she brushed it off as best she could, dumping the snow onto the ground. Then she took off her heavy vest and curled it up like a circular sleeping mat. Despite Haji's inner protests, she went to him next and picked him up with a small sound of exertion. Though he wasn't too heavy, he was about three feet tall. She set him down on her improvised cover, making sure his cold feet were under him. Hopefully that would warm him up.

She shivered a little bit, rubbing her arms though the turtleneck sleeves as she turned back to the battle. She felt off without her coat in just her black turtleneck and cargos, but the vest was being put to good use.

Boldore stopped moving, and she could tell it took some damage from the attack. She also looked a little panicked, and her gaze kept flicking between the three Pokémon near Jake. She seemed a bit scared, if her slight trembling was any indicator. Ivy knew that Boldore could learn Explosion, and sometimes when Pokémon were spooked, they panicked and did things like that.

“Watch out, Jake,” she called, hoping he'd listen. “She looks like she's unsettled by all of your Pokémon out. You might want to call them back.” It was illegal to double or triple team a wild Pokémon, but since they weren't involved directly in the battle, she didn't think it really counted as breaking the rules. Still, it affected what was happening, and right now the Boldore didn't like it.

The rock Pokémon acted after that. She shakily sent out energy, and the rocks that the Walrein had been trapped in came alive again. They shot like bullets toward the walrus. Four large rocks sailed through the air. One missed, but the other three blasted her one right after another. Sphealia cried out again and staggered, more hurt.

Ivy really hoped this would finish soon.
