    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

That water was going to be a problem if Leo didn't do anything. Thankfully, he seemed to have a plan for what they could do next. Audino was pretty bold in her battling, considering she was supposed to be a healer. Ivy believed that all Pokémon had that instinct to fight when necessary though, so she wasn't too surprised that this one was trying to give them a good time.

“Alright, Shadow, quick, use Flamethrower towards the ground and then use Double Team. Since burning it didn't work, we'll try poisoning it. Use Sludge Bomb,” he said.

The dog nodded as the electricity in Audino's hands crackled. With a lurch of his head, he began breathing out a powerful flamethrower that bounced off the ground and flared up around him, providing fins of flame as cover. It also dried him off, which was really smart considering the water was a conductor. Then he began to shimmer, and Ivy watched as Shadow split into four hounds, each one looking exactly the same. Their tails even flicked at the same time, and when the fire died down, there was a line of four dogs for the Normal-type to deal with.

They started to circle Audino, and Ivy could tell they were working on their next move. The pink Pokémon gave them all a hard look as they started to circle, seeing the build up for the Sludge Bomb. With a yell, she unleashed her attack on one of the dogs, seemingly chosen at random. The Ranger wasn't sure if Audino could tell the real one apart, since a clone was blasted and disappeared in a puff of smoke. She supposed that if the healer wanted to use her ears as a stethoscope to hear for heartbeats, it wasn't exactly safe to get that close.

The remaining three clones then spit up the Sludge Bomb. Coming from three directions, Audino couldn't stop it, and Shadow's attack hit her hard, the poison melting over her. She tried to shake it off, but her movements seemed pained. Ivy thought she had been poisoned.

Audino seemed to realize that she couldn't just take them out one by one. She gave them all a hard look before touching the ground. Then the sand answered her call. Spikes of earth came up as she used a Secret Power, the tiny rocks shooting toward all three dogs and pelting them. They all tried to jump backward, but she managed to hit the two clones hard enough that they too, disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Shadow didn't look too hurt, but Audino wasn't just going to stop there. She was gathering energy to herself again, but Ivy couldn't tell what it was from here. The poison was wearing her down though, so if Shadow could just hang on, they could have this battle wrapped up soon.

Audino was good. She used Secret Power to hit Shadow and his clones to destroy them and to hit the real one as well. I wasn’t really sure why I expected it to be using non-attacks only. I guess I had expected them to be like the Blissey I had battled a couple of days ago. It was relying on non-battle attacks and hadn’t even got to use an attacking move before it was knocked out. I was dumb to think that. Lately, I had a habit of underestimating my opponents. It was a habit I was going to have to break before it ends up biting me in the ass.

I saw that Audino was charging up another Secret Power attack. For a second, I thought about using Secret Power back at her, but decided to go for a stronger attack like Flamethrower or Dark Pulse. Those two were stronger because the attack was the same type as Shadow, Fire and Dark. I already used Flamethrower, but not at Audino. This time I would use the attack directed at her. She would then feel his hot flames on her body. I didn’t want to burn her, just make her lose more health from the attack.

“Alright Shadow. One more Flamethrower should do the trick.” I called out. “Don’t overdo it, but also don’t under do it. I want it just right for capturing.” With that, I pulled out a Hyperball and stood by for his attack to go down. Shadow arched his head back and brought up the flames from his gut. He formed it into a orange red ball of flames, and let out a deep breath. The fire came spewing out in a line of fire, headed straight for Audino. It was then that I enlarged the Hyperball and aimed it at the pink and yellow Hearing Pokémon. I knew her attack would also be coming at Shadow, but he could take it without much harm. I watched the flames and the Hyperball inch closer and closer towards Audino, as if it were going in slow motion. I didn’t want to be overconfident that it would be a successful capture, but I was fairly certain luck was on my side here. If not, I hoped Audino still had enough energy left for me to try capture it again.

Audino was still charging when Leo made up his mind for what he was going to do next. Ivy thought she saw another flicker of electricity near the healer, but she couldn't be certain. If she remembered correctly, Audino could also learn Charge Beam and Thunder along with Thunderbolt.

“Alright, Shadow. One more Flamethrower should do the trick,” Leo said to his Pokémon. He warned the dog to be careful, not doing too much or too little damage, because he was going to try and capture it.

The guy pulled out a Hyper Ball from his pocket and waited for Shadow to start. Most people chose to throw like that, hoping that the attack would distract the wild Pokémon just enough for the ball to close around them. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. It mostly depended on how wore out the Pokémon was. Since Audino was already poisoned, Ivy figured Leo had a pretty good chance.

Shadow arched his head, and then a stream of fire lashed out. It billowed along the air and struck Audino, making her cry and lose focus of what she was doing. She ran to the side to escape the flames, but Leo chose that moment to throw the ball, and the device hit her on top of the head, sucking her up in a flash of red light.

The ball fell to the semi-damp sand and wiggled a bit, putting up a little fight. Soon it clicked shut, pinging the success across the water. “Congratulations,” she said, going over to pick up the ball with Haji following her. She noticed that his paw prints were left in the sand. “What's next on the list?” she asked. “Or was that all you were hunting for today?”

OOC: EDIT: actually, don't end it, I'll see what else comes my way.

IC: I watched the ball soar threw the air. It was headed straight for Audino, just moments behind the Hyperball. I had a good feeling it was going to capture. Notmally I went for more status conditions, but I felt it wasn't necessary right now. The ball finally hit Audino, shooting out the usual red light that sucked in the Hearing Pokemon. The ball landed on the ground and shook for a bit.

The ball finally laid motionless on the ground. “Congratulations,” Ivy said as she picked up the ball. “What's next on the list?” she asked. “Or was that all you were hunting for today?”

"Nope, I'm done for today." I said. "Let's go back to the headquarters and see what else I run into on the way back. If I run into a Gastly or Golett." I pulled out my Golett Voice Disk and pressed play.

Leo decided they should probably start heading back, so Ivy made sure his new capture was secure before they started angling away from the pond. He wanted to see what came up on the way back, and that was fine with her. They might as well, seeing how he only had one Pokémon captured so far. She was sure he wasn't brimming with excitement to get back to work.

Leo pulled out a voice disk, putting it in the player and turning it on. She recognized the ghastly sound as a Golett, a type of ground ghost she had heard about. She wasn't sure how good they were in battle, but then again, all Pokémon had potential for certain situations.

They made it several feet into the dry, rustling grass when Ivy realized they weren't alone. They were coming up to a larger rock she must've headed away from when they were headed toward the pond. A form came up on it, casting a shadow into the grass. They were in the wrong angle, sot he sunlight kind of obstructed her vision. She put a hand up to shield her eyes and got a good look at the Pokémon there.

“Hey, there's that Golett you were looking for,” she said.

It was about three feet high, with a shield-type crest strapped to its chest. Gold, glowing lights lit up spaces in its bluish armor. It looked sort of like a robot from a few of the Sci-fi movies she had seen. Its limbs blended in with the rocky surface somewhat, and Ivy watched as it slid down the stone to disappear into the grass. The rock scraped, and the noise echoed. The area was otherwise quiet.

“Now what?” she asked, pretty sure he was going to battle and interested to see how he was going to go about fighting a Pokémon he couldn't really see.

I was pretty happy when I found Audino. I hadn't expected to, but I did. I was about to leave when I realized I should at least try one more disk, so I pressed play. I looked around checking to see if anything was coming our way as we walked to the front gate to head back to the Ranger Headquarters. I didn’t expect anything to come my way, but it didn’t hurt to try. If nothing came, then I would just leave like I had planned to. I already had what I came for, but a bonus would be nice. Rex’s starter Pokémon was a Golett and he was quite powerful. I was quite fond of Colossus, the name he had given Golett, so I figured it would useful trying to capture one for myself. Not long after playing my Voice Disk, a Golett came my way. I couldn’t believe I found one so easily.

“Hey, there's that Golett you were looking for, now what?” she said. I was pretty shocked. I hadn’t expected to find one so quickly. Usually it took about three or four tries on the second disk before my voice disk even worked. I was pretty happy with this. I was at the right place and the right time. I just hoped my luck would be this good in battle. Since Rex had a Golett, I already knew quite a bit about them. I heard Golurk could fly, but I wasn’t sure if Golett could. I figured hearing more stuff from my Pokedex would help. I pulled out my black and yellow Pokedex and quickly scanned Golett. I already knew a bit, but anything else could help.

Golett – the Automaton Pokémon. Golett are dual typed Pokémon, being both Ghost types and Ground types. The stand between three feet and four feet three inches and weigh between one hundred and eighty pounds and two hundred and fifty pounds. The Golem Pokémon is thought to be a Pokémon created with the science of a phantom ancient civilization. The energy that burns inside it enables it to move, but no one has yet been able to identify this energy.

Golett’s blue body was varied from light blue to dark blue. His cyan-colored head had a small fin on top. His yellow eyes stared at us, waiting for me to make my move. In the middle of his brown strap-like chest guard thing was a yellow swirl in the center. He took a fighting stance and waited for me to send my Pokémon. I was going to use another Houndoom, this time it would be Hellhound.

“Now I battle it of course,” I said sarcastically, but not in the rude way. “Alright Helhound, you’re up to bat.” One of the three Houndoom moved up in front of me, closer to the Golett. This particular Houndoom had a thunderbolt mark on both sides of his face. I wondered what happened to him to make him get those, but I never asked. I figured he’d let me know when he wanted to.

“Okay, start this off with Toxic, then go in with Flamethrower to cause a small explosion. We’ll see how he handles this and work from that. Be careful with the explosion to not hurt yourself, use Protect to block the aftereffects.” I called out to him. He nodded and began hacking up something. He then released a thick purple stream of liquid that went all over the field in small puddles. The puddles then shrank and released a thick purple gas which would badly poison Golett if he inhaled it. Since the gas was all over the battle field, it would be easy to ignite everything with a simple Flamethrower. Golett would get hurt from the toxic gases, Flamethrower, the explosion, and the after effects of Toxic if all went well. It was a lot of stuff going down, but it was only two attacks planned out well. If they were timed perfectly, it would cause a good amount of damage.

I wasn’t sure what this Golett would do or how he would respond. I knew he knew Ground type moves, which were super effective against Houndoom, so I was going to have to watch out for that. This wasn’t going to be an easy battle, but if I played it right then I wouldn’t take as much damage as I probably would if I was careless. Golett or Golurk would make a great add to my team. I didn’t use many Ground types or Ghost types so one that could play both would be great. I moved back a little, to avoid getting hit by any debris. Pointblank moved in front of Ivy, Shadow, Hex and I to protect us. Hellhoud might get hurt a bit if he didn’t use Protect on time. I kept an eye on the battle field to see how this whole thing was going to go down.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Alright, Hellhound, you're up to bat,” Leo called, after replying with a sarcastic remark about battling it.

Ivy just shook her head and stepped back a little bit, making the grass rustle. She knew he was going to battle. She had meant more like what he was going to do in the dry, flaky brush with a bunch of Fire-types and an unseen opponent. She was pretty sure the Golett would be fine thanks to its ground typing, but she was more concerned about other Pokémon that could be lurking in the grass, like the Mismagius they saw earlier, if he lit up a flame.

“Okay, start this off with Toxic, then go in with Flamethrower to cause a small explosion,” Leo called, and the Houndoom nodded. Ivy paled a little, knowing that these grasses were likely to catch on fire really easy. Since it was a pretty wild field, that had potential to cause a lot of damage to the surrounding areas. She looked back and saw that the grasses almost touched the other edge of the Valley. Leo then told his Houndoom to use Protect to guard himself against backlash, and she thought that if he was worried about it, he probably shouldn't be reckless.

This dog had lightning marks on the sides of his face, maybe caused by some accident. She wasn't sure if he had got them with Leo or before, but he seemed to trust the other Ranger completely. Immediately his muzzle filled with a poison gas, and he let the Toxic attack wade through the field. Puddles of the goo dropped onto the ground in places, so Ivy was pretty sure Golett would get poisoned wherever it went, whether it breathed in or stepped in it.

Houndoom could learn a variety of Poison-type attacks, which was handy since the gases were often flammable. Her own Chandelure had used that technique in a cave in Oktori, battling a Lucario that had made clones of himself in a pit. Here was no different. It was a good idea, lighting the smog up, but she just worried about he consequences.

Hellhound charged up to fire, and she opened her mouth to shout out a warning. Leo was a Ranger; he knew about protecting the place. She got out a, “Watch the grass!” Then, the Houndoom released the flames.

Ivy's nails dug into her palms as she waited, and she felt Haji's energy swirl, ready to teleport them out if necessary. A stream of fire went toward the poison, but before it could ignite the field, a wave of earth crashed over the blast, snuffing out the flames before they could cause some damage. Hellhound put up his protective shield, but there was no need. It faded as the area quieted, and nobody moved as they waited for something to happen.

Then, a large, ghastly figure appeared to Hellhound's left. He snapped at it on reflex, but the image disappeared into the grasses like it had never been there. Ivy recognized the Night Shade, a prank-type technique usually used to startle and distract the opponent. She had used it like that a few times with her own ghost.

This happened a few more times, the image appearing on various sides of the dog. Hellhound tried to get each one, but there was never anything there. When he was anticipating when the next one would appear, another wave of ground came crashing over him suddenly, knocking him over and burying him slightly in dirt. Ivy caught sight of the Golett blending in slightly a little farther up, where the wave had started from. It looked like it was waiting for the next move. Ivy just hoped it wasn't going to disappear again.

The attack I came up with didn’t work as well as I planned. The Toxic was supposed to badly poison Golett, which it did, and the lingering gas was supposed to make a big explosion. In a way, I was sort of glad it didn’t work out that good. Had it worked better and caused a large explosion, I might have burnt a little bit of the area. Of course it wasn’t going to be anything big, because my Pokémon and I could easily put it out. However, I didn’t want to destroy any Pokémons’ home or area so I was glad it didn’t work out as I wanted; it saved me from getting in trouble, and from hurting this environment. I knew that earth that put quickly put out the flames was Golett’s doing. He knew what would happen and stopped it before it did. He was pretty smart and observant. If and when I caught him, I was going to have to give him my thanks, and my apologies for almost messing up his home. I put that behind me and carried on with the battle, things were just getting started.

“Okay Hellhound. We’ll try something less explosive this time. I want you to use Dark Pulse. Since you lost some speed, he’ll probably try to come in closer for an attack and try to outspeed you. Focus on his movements and hit him with Iron Tail when the time is right. Just concentrate, I know you can do this. You just got to believe!” Hellhound let out a low growl as he nodded his head, letting me know he understood.

Hellhound began forming a ball of purple circles in front of his mouth. He moved his head towards the Automaton Pokémon and then fired a beam of purple circles at the Golett from the dark ball of energy. I wasn’t sure what kind of energy Dark Pulse, or any Dark type move was or came from. Did it cause the user to feel negative emotions? I wasn’t too comfortable using these moves, but since Shadow never showed any negativity then I could only hope it meant nothing.

If that attack hit, then I would be waiting for Hellhound to perform Iron Tail attack. Iron Tail was an easy move to use, but a hard move to land. It required the user to be pretty close to its opponent to land a blow. Hellhound’s tail would glow a whitish metallic color that he would slam into Golett when the Ghost/Ground type got close enough. I just hoped he was visible and came close to attack this time around. Hopefully Dark Pulse will lure him in closer for it to work better. If this went well, I would then proceed in capture attempt number one. If that went well, then I would be ending my trip there. No sense in wasting any more time here.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Leo didn't look too troubled, which was good. Battling always went better with a cool head. Taking your time meant you made less mistakes, in theory at least. The vegetation was safe, so there was nothing to worry about. The only thing Leo had to do was bide some time and wear down the Golett. Since it was poisoned, it shouldn't take that long. The damage would slowly stack up the longer the battle went on.

“Okay, Hellhound. We'll try something less explosive this time,” Leo said. “I want you to use Dark Pulse.”

The goal was to try and flush the ghost out enough to it to get close, then he called to use an Iron Tail when it was close enough. The other Ranger encouraged his Pokémon, and the dog let out a growl to show he understood.

The Houndoom charged his attack, and shadowy purple orbs appeared in front of him. Ivy thought that Dark-type attacks were formed from the shadows, but she wasn't sure. There was a type of strange energy in it that she didn't really understand. Haji didn't really understand either, being a Psychic-type, which was pretty much the exact opposite. Shadow Ball and other Ghost-type attacks seemed to use shadows and the like too, so she didn't think Dark was exactly the same.

The energy waved out, firing off shots toward the grass where the Golett was still sitting. It seemed a little slow to react, which was a good sign that it was being wore down more. It tried to back up and disappear, but it didn't quite manage it before a couple of the orbs slammed into it. Then it tensed up and faded out of sight, and all went quiet.

Hellhound was alert, keeping watch for the ghost to reappear. His ears twitched and his head slowly turned back and forth as he scanned the field. His tail began to glow a silvery-white color in preparation to attack, knowing that the ghost wouldn't stay away for too long. Ivy pinged Haji, trying to see if he could pinpoint where the Golett was, but he answered her with a slight shake of his head.

Then, suddenly the ghost was there to Hellhound's left. It had its fist outstretched, and with a powerful heave, it punched the dog in the side. The Houndoom tried not to be too stunned though, and as he was falling, he lashed out with his tail to knock the Golett back. It stumbled and made its getaway as Hellhound got up, fading away into the grasses again.

It was definitely moving slower, so Ivy thought Leo would be able to try and capture it soon. Hellhound was a little hurt, being hit with a hard punch suddenly like that, but he was still standing. Now they just had to wait to see what Leo was going to do next.

OOC: Threw Hyperball. If it captures, go ahead and end the run.

IC: The dark rings Hellhound fired from his mouth made contact with Golett, but only a little of them did. Golett managed to escape the attack by disappearing. I knew that just because he disappeared, didn’t that the attack stopped hitting him; it just meant I couldn’t see if he was getting hit by the attack, or where he was for that matter. Hellhound didn’t let his guard down even for a second. He was on high alert looking for a chance to smack Golett with his attack. His tail was already glowing white and ready to strike. Then, in an instant, Golett appeared on Hellhound’s left side. Then, the Automaton Pokémon swung his fist hard at Hellhound, who managed to slam Golett with Iron Tail. He was pretty strong to be able to take an attack like Focus Punch and still be able to land a blow like that. I was impressed. It was well played. I knew the Ghost/Ground type only had about half of his energy left to fight. Because of that last move, Hellhound was at about the same. This last attack was more than likely going to be all I needed to capture the Pokémon.

Golett had disappeared again. I knew that in order to capture it, I was going to need to see where it was. I couldn’t capture it if I didn’t know where it was. I also didn’t want the Hyperball to go through him, I wanted a secure way to capture the Pokémon, and I had an idea. Ghost type Pokémon had the ability to make themselves invisible by making their body transparent so that light isn’t reflected or absorbed by them. Hellhound, and pretty much any Houndoom or Pokémon like him had a move called Odor Sleuth. He would open his mouth and the insides would begin to glow white and become surrounded in a white static. Then, he would fire the orb which would cause a bright yellow light to shine through the entire battlefield. The light, I assumed, would somehow be absorbed by Golett, making him visible. At least that is what I heard. That would make landing moves and capturing him a whole lot easier.

“Alright Hellhound. Let’s start wrapping this up. Use Odor Sleuth, and then hit him with a Hidden Power attack.” I called out. This plan was incredibly easy for him to pull off, so I had no worries here. I pulled out a Hyperball from my bag and quickly enlarged it. Hellhound began creating the white light in his mouth. After he used Odor Sleuth, he would use Hidden Power. His Hidden Power was a Water type, that was sure to do some damage to Golett. I didn’t think that Hidden Power and the affects of toxic would knock him out. At least I hoped not. I was prepared to throw the Hyperball as soon as both moves were used.

(OOC: The Capture didn't work D: this one probably for sure will.)

    @Bumblebee

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Leo took out a Hyperball as he waited to see if the Golett would show up again. He spent a few moments looking, but there was nothing, so he put it in the hands of his Pokémon.

“Alright, Hellhound,” he said. “Let's start wrapping this up. Use Odor Sleuth, and then hit him with a Hidden Power attack.”

Usually the canines tended to use this as a deep scent skill, locking on to the target using that. However, since Golett was a ghost, that would be tricky. He was also part ground, and since the field was full of it, it would be hard to distinguish the Pokémon from the surroundings. There were some non-hounds that learned it though, so sometimes it was done in a different way, which Ivy saw Hellhound doing now.

The dog formed a while light in his mouth that glowed between his teeth. Then, he released the orb, and the brightness lit up the field. Ivy closed her eyes for a second, and when she could open them again, she noticed a faint shining behind the Houndoom. The ghost was outlined, his form no longer invisible. Since there was so much light everywhere, it couldn't make itself transparent by warding off that light.

Hellhound sensed immediately and charged up his Hidden Power. Orbs of a deep blue color formed around him and began to spin before shooting off toward the ghost. Sometimes, depending on the type of Hidden Power, a Pokémon could control the surroundings, like the earth or the wind currents. When that element wasn't readily available though, she found that the technique tended to take on some sort of shape and attack. These looked a bit like water balloons.

The ghost, trying to figure out why it wasn't invisible anymore, couldn't get out of the way. The orbs hit it and popped one by one, splashing it with the power of water. Leo chose that time to throw his ball, and it sailed through the air as Golett tried to get the water off.

Unfortunately, it noticed the flying projectile, and with a carefully timed swing, he struck the ball and sent it sailing back toward Leo. Then it gave out a little cry, and the ground rumbled. It began to shake violently near Hellhound, and the dog had to crouch down to prevent from falling.

Golett realized that it couldn't escape, so instead of trying to vanish again, it just backed up a little, looking ready to fight. It puffed as it breathed through, so Ivy knew it had to be getting super tired. She doubted it would be able to ward off another capture attempt.

OOC: Same thing as before, end it please. Short post ;[

The plan I had set out went well, but Golett still had enough energy to knock the ball back straight towards me. I caught it in my left hand. Normally, I would have been disappointed that my plan to capture him failed, but his health was now so low now that I was pretty positive that he couldn't knock back or escape this Hyperball again.

"Awesome job Hellhound!" I called out happily. "Golett is pretty weak now. Don't attack it anymore. If he tries to attack you, use Protect." I enlarged the Hyperball again and threw it at the Golett. This was it, it was about to be captured. Usually I didn't want to be too overconfident, but I knew this was it. I tried to hide my big grin, but it wasn't working. I watched the ball soar through the air towards Golett.

    ---

Leo wasn't discouraged by Golett knocking the Hyper Ball back to him. The Toxic was really starting to hinder the ghost. Ivy could see how it moved more sluggishly. If Hellhound hurt it too much more, there'd be danger of it being knocked out.

The other Ranger knew this though, so he praised his Houndoom for doing a good job. “Golett is pretty weak now. Don't attack it anymore. If it tries to attack you, use Protect.”

The dog nodded and got ready to shield himself as Leo got ready to throw the ball again. This time, the ghost didn't have the energy to knock it away, and it bounced off its head with a clunk. That red light sucked it inside, and the ball fell to the ground with a whisper as it landed on the dry grasses. The ball rocked weakly, but it didn't break open. The ping sounded, and Ivy breathed a sigh of relief.

“Awesome,” she said, going over to collect the capture.

Then Leo said that he was done for today, so she nodded and signaled to Haji. She felt the air shimmer as the purple cat warped them back to the main outpost, and when she wasn't frozen again, she shook off the after effects. She did the routine things of handing Leo the forms he had to finish up and registering the Pokémon under his Trainer code before handing them to him.

“Now that you're not busy, I'm sure there's some paperwork you should be doing.” She grinned as he made a face and an excuse, slipping out of the room. Ivy just laughed.
