    I was leaning on the counter out the front of the Headquarters, chatting amicably to one of the secretaries. He was one of the few guys who worked for us, but just liked the female secretaries he was quite attractive. I was fairly sure that he was kept around for the same reason that Madison and the others were kept around. The thought raised a small growl in my throat, but I suppressed it. David was a cool guy - he had very similar tastes to me in movies and video games.

    I heard the ding of a bell which indicated that there was a new run. I glanced over at the counter and I saw that the new run was for Leo, one of the other Elite Rangers. I hadn't seen much of him recently, so acting on impulse I nodded goodbye to David and picked up the piece of paper. I scan-read it and groaned when I saw the words "Great Lakes". Leo wouldn't stop going to the damn Lakes.

    Hey Dual, interested in wandering around the Lakes with Leo? I asking my partner through our mental link.

    Sure, I'm always up for a party with Mindbender,> he replied. <I'll meet you there, I gotta finish something up.>

    Alright, but I hope you know you're never going to get any off her, I sent, laughing inside.

    The Gallade cut the connection and I could tell he was a little miffed. Still chuckling, I walked through a door to the left that led to the teleporters. We had them installed not too long ago. They weren't as fast as Psychic Pokemon, but they were modelled off the same theory. I stepped into the one that led to the Great Lakes. Leo would probably meet me there.

    IC: "You know Shadow, we're going to keep coming back here as long as it takes." I said to him. I knew how unconfortable he felt about going to the lakes, but like any faithful companion, he would go anywhere I would. I didn't want to make him, but I knew I couldn't stop him from coming. The large black and orange dog Pokemon let out a small, unconfortable bark. He moved to my side, letting me know that he wasn't backing down.

    "Okay then, let's head on out there then." I said. "Our Ranger should be there soon, if he isn't there already." We were instantly teleported to the Lakes. Once we arrived, I saw someone who I hadn't seen in a long time. Chainy, who had been my Ranger the first time I came to the Lakes, was now going to be my Ranger again on this trip. I was kind of glad it was him since I'd known him a while. I walked up to him.

    "Hey Chain, long time eh?" I said, extending my hand. With my other hand, I pressed play on my Pokeplayer, which let out a Frillish sound. I was still hoping to find one.

    OOC: @Bumblebee there's something in here that I want, you should catch it and trade it to me for Oddish :3

    ~~~~~
    As soon as I stepped out of the teleporter, there was a flash of blue, and Dual appeared. He jerked his head up at me in greeting, and I returned it. By the way he was swaying slightly and his muscles were a bit flexed, I could tell he had been working out. The Gallade was probably hoping to impress Mindbender. I'd call him a fool, except he'd claim he was in love and then rib on me even worse.
    I heard the whirring start up again, and I turned around to watch Leo and Shadow walk out. The Houndoom bounded over to me and licked my hand and face, and I grinned and patted him. I got on well with dogs, and Shadow was one of the most likable Pokemon I had ever met. Leo walked up to me and shook my hand, which I returned with earnest.
    "Hey Chain, long time eh?" he asked as he pulled out a Pokeplayer.
    "Too long," I agreed. Even though we were both Elites, we were usually kept so busy that we didn't see each other, and if we did it was only in passing. I watched with interest as Leo inserted a disc into his Pokeplayer. Leo was a collector, so he went on expeditions looking for sole Pokemon, bypassing all others in his search. It seemed like a strange thing to do, but I couldn't argue that it got results.
    It wasn't long before the recognisable keen of a Frillish began wailing from the device. My earbuds picked up and memorised the sound, cutting it from my auditory in-take. At least now I wouldn't have to listen to the Water-type's calls over and over again. One of the best purchases I have ever made.
    "Alright, let's roll," I said, and I led Leo out of the Outpost. As soon as we stepped down onto the springy grass, a round blue Pokemon waddled up to say hello. The Marill wagged its tail adorably and squeaked curiously at Shadow. The Houndoom wasn't quite sure what to do - he knew he could defeat the Marill easily, but it was never fun battling Water-types. Still, if I knew Leo, he'd pass up on this Pokemon.
    "Interested in it?" I asked him.
    OOC: Okay, I'll catch you this Marill. ;]
    IC: "Interested in it?" Chain asked me. I felt that he already knew the answer though. He had come with me before, so it wasn't much of a surprise. He knew that I only went for certain Pokemon. This wasn't one of them. Besides, it wasn't even in basic form.
    "Hmm. Don't think I'll be battling this, or trying to capture it. Usually I only capture things in basic form so I can train them myself. Let's try to leave this thing, if not then I have some Pokedolls.
    I brought up my Pokeplayer and pressed play once more. The sound of a Frillish played again. I could only hope now that one would come my way. If not, I would just come back again. Though, this time, I did bring two voice disks in case one didn't work.
    "Hmm. Don't think I'll be battling this, or trying to capture it. Usually I only capture things in basic form so I can train them myself. Let's try to leave this thing, if not then I have some Pokedolls," Leo said.
    "Fair enough, that's how Jathan rolls," I replied. "He only catches the young stuff, unless it's particularly rare."
    We walked past the Marill, but it followed us, bouncing happily along and squeaking each time its tail hit the ground. Leo finally decided that it was going to go away, so he pulled a Clefairy-shaped doll out of his backpack and tossed it under-arm to the Water-type. The Marill caught it and ran away quickly, squeaking happily. I nodded, and we continued on.
    It wasn't long before we reached the edge of the main lake. The sparkling waters reflected the sunlight well - it was hard to look at them with my unshielded eye. I was about to ask Leo how he wanted to proceed, but I was interrupted by another Pokemon. A large orange fox-like Pokemon with two tails emerged from behind some reeds and yapped a challenge to Leo.
    "What about a Floatzel?" I asked.
    "What about a Floatzel?" He asked me. I looked over at the large water weasle. I was really fond of these Pokemon, which is why I owned one. Had I not been on a mission for certain Pokemon, I might have captured it.
    "Floatzel is cool and all, but I will pass on this one as well." I said, pulling out another Pokedoll. "I'd rather not have to use this, but I can if necessary." I kept my Pokeplayer playing, I was determined to find this Frillish not matter how long it took. There was a bunch of ther stuff I wanted, so I hoped I would at least leave with three Pokemon this time. If not then at least two, I wanted something interesting to come up soon.
    "Let's carry on." I said to Chain.
    "Floatzel is cool and all, but I will pass on this one as well. I'd rather not have to use this, but I can if necessary. Let's carry on," Leo replied.
    I nodded, and since he didn't make any move to summon out a Water Pokemon I assumed he didn't want to go out onto the lake. That made sense - Frillish were mostly found along coasts and watersides as opposed to out in open water.
    We went to turn left, but the Floatzel hissed and its ears went flat against its head. The stupidest person alive could tell that it was angry. My guess was that it wasn't happy because Leo had refused to battle it. Shadow growled back in response, ready to savage the impertinent Water-type at a moment's notice.
    "Better chuck a doll," I muttered to Leo. He nodded, and threw a Rhydon-shaped one at the Sea Weasel Pokemon. The Pokemon pounced and caught the doll in mid-air before savaging it with its sharp teeth. Fluff and pieces of string flew through the air. I gulped nervously.
    "Let's move along before it finishes with that and decides to move onto us," I suggested.
    We left the Sea Weasel Pokemon behind and continued around the lakes. There were no reeds here, so we'd be able to see any Pokemon in the water clearly and easily. We were also able to see any land-based Pokemon, and we did. There was a humanoid frog resting against a piece of driftwood, one of its legs crossed lazily over the other.
    "Feel like trying to capture a Croagunk, then?" I asked my Trainer.
    We left the Floatzel to play with the Pokedoll. When I turned around though, I saw the Water Weasel ripping the doll to shreds. I knew it was time to make a haste escape before the mysterious effects of the Pokedoll wore off and it decided to come after us. We didn’t get far though. Less than a mile away, we ran into a Croagunk.
    "Feel like trying to capture a Croagunk, then?" He asked me. I looked over towards the Croagunk. It was a small dark blue bipedal frog with white bands around its waist area that resemble bandages and red and black markings on its hands and feet. Its orange cheeks were filled with poison, I could see a little running down the side of the left cheek. I knew those poison pockets ran down to its fingers, which allowed it to poison opponents just by stabbing them.
    I quickly pulled out my Pokedex. My family and I were working on a Pokedex. We wanted to complete it as quickly as possible while raising them as well. So far we had over four hundred different kinds of Pokémon, which was far more than anyone I knew even had. In my opinion, it was a great accomplishment, especially if we actually managed to get all known Pokémon. A bright green light shot out of the black and yellow Pokedex and hit the Croagunk. The wild Toxic Mouth Pokémon didn’t seem to bothered being scanned, at least that was my impression on it.
    Croagunk – the Toxic Mouth Pokémon. Croagunk is a dual type Pokémon, being both Poison type, and Fighting type, which makes it extremely weak to Psychic type attacks. Croagunk are typically two to four feet tall and weigh around fifty to eighty pounds. They have the ability Anticipation or Dry Skin, rarer ones even have the ability called Poison Touch. These Pokémon are among the few Pokemon who’s genders can be told apart. Female Croagunk would have a the two white stripes above the abdomen, in a place higher than the males. The black parts on the female’s hands are also larger than the males. Croagunk are generally mischievous and mean. A few Croagunk, however are more comfortable being alone, simply staring at the views around them. Croagunk may also make noise by expanding its poison sacs. It rarely fights fairly, but that is strictly to ensure survival. Croagunk live in moist areas close to bodies of water, such as swamps and marshes, or forests where there is very little light.
    “Well, that is interesting. I’ve been wanting one of these guys for a while, or at least I know someone that has been. I suppose I’ll capture it. Judging by what the Pokedex said, this Croagunk has to be male. Mindbender would be best to use here.” I said, mainly talking to myself, but out loud.
    “Alright Mindbender, you’re up.” I said to her telepathically. I tossed her blue and green Pokeball in front of me. The sphere opened and a white bright light flashed before me. Standing in front of me was a tall, female shaped Pokémon with a white ballroom gown on. The slight breeze in the air made her gown sway to the left side.
    “Well this should be easy.” She said confidently.
    “Yeah, it should be, but if you heard the Pokedex, this dude doesn’t play fair. He will more than likely have some dirty tricks up his sleeve. Unfortunately for him though, we don’t have to get close to him, so we can see his tricks before he gets to use them. I don’t want you to attack right now. I just want to see what he can do. Start with Taunt, lure him in, and then burn him with Will-o-Wisp. Should be easy enough.”
    “Alright, got it.” Mindbender responded. She began jeering at Croagunk. Making weird noises and faces at the small fighter, doing anything possible to get him angry and launch an attack at her. She drew one hand behind her back, pretending she could take him with one hand. With the hand she hand behind her though, she began creating a small whitish blue ball of fire that she would slam into his face the moment he grew close. He wanted to play dirty, we could do the same.
    This was all too fun for me. I always liked a challenge, especially one like this where the opponent didn’t play fair. I wasn’t really sure if he would play fair or not, but I speculated that he wouldn’t. If he did though, then oh well.
    Leo looked over the Croagunk carefully as we walked closer. It looked at us out of the corner of its eyes, but didn't make a move. It was either supremely lazy or simple unconcerned about us.
    Leo pulled out a Pokemon and scanned the Fighting-type. While he listened to the information the device spouted, I scanned its capabilities with my visor. I hadn't known that Leo had a Pokedex, but I wasn't surprised. It was probably at least partially why he was such a hardcore Pokemon collector.
    “Well, that is interesting. I’ve been wanting one of these guys for a while, or at least I know someone that has been. I suppose I’ll capture it," Leo said. "Judging by what the Pokedex said, this Croagunk has to be male. Mindbender would be best to use here.”
    Leo pulled out a PokeBall and tossed it in front of him. From the white flash arose his Gardevoir, Mindbender. Dual immediately stood up straight and started tensing his muscles. I sighed and shook my head - Dual was usually extremely serious, but he really got a horny teenager vibe around Gardevoir.
    Just like how I battled with Dual (and to a lesser extent, Meta and Broadblade) Leo commanded Mindbender telepathically, so I wasn't entirely sure what moves she was using. However, when she started making weird faces and funny noises at the frog I was pretty confident she was Taunting it. And it seemed to be working. The Poison-type sat up and looked curiously at the Embrace Pokemon. Its eyes narrowed when it realised it was being made fun of. It started to run towards Mindbender, but instead of punching her or launching a blob of poison towards her, it dropped to one knee and slid towards her baseball-style. The result was a huge spray of dirt and dust that flew up into the air, obscuring the frog and completely covering Mindbender. She took a few steps back, trying to wipe her eyes, but the frog was already moving into its next move. It straightened its legs, causing it to catapult up into the air. The Poison-type drew its fist back and punched Mindbender hard in the head, knocking her onto her backside and getting her dress even dirtier.
    Dual's fist tightened, but I nudged him with my elbow. Calm down, Mindbender is fine, I said to him. Neither of those moves would have hurt her very much.
    Suddenly, there was a blast of blue/white fire that tore the dust cloud apart. I couldn't see what had happened, but what I could see now was that Mindbender was getting to her feet and the Croagunk was backing off, holding its arm protectively. Whatever she had done had just wounded the Wild Pokemon pretty severely to be making it back off like that. Still, something was wrong with Mindbender too - her head was spinning slightly, probably from the smack she had received from the Croagunk.
    Mindbender got hit bad by Croagunk’s attacks. And when I say bad, I don’t mean by the damage, I mean by the after affects. Croagunk had used Mud-Slap, an attack with lowered ones accuracy. I knew that landing moves would be that much harder now. That was something that I usually prevented before it happened by using Taunt, but Croagunk found a way to bring down Mindbender’s accuracy and do damage at the same time. It was pretty good, but not as good as his next tricky move. Croagunk also used Dynamic Punch, which by itself did pretty much nothing to Mindbender. A Fighting type move was pretty weak on a Psychic type, especially one as strong as she was. However, that Fighting type move had an after-effect that caused confusion in whoever got hit by the attack. So not only was she going to have a hard time landing blows because of her drop in accuracy, she was going to have a hard time focusing because of the confusion.
    The smartest thing for me to do was to call her back. I couldn’t have her battling like that. She could hurt herself if she did, and I would feel horrible if that were to happen because I didn’t recall her back like I was supposed to. My next move would be to send out Trypticon, my Starmie. Trypticon, although genderless, usually portrayed male characteristics. I wasn’t sure if it was possible for one that was genderless to think its male, but that is what he thought at least.
    Starmie were incredibly heavy Pokémon. It surprised me when I found out how heavy they were. They didn’t look anywhere near that big. My guess was that the red jewel that resided in the center of their body was the cause of all that weight.
    “Alright Mindbender, follow my voice and teleport next to me, you are done for now.” I called out to her through our mind link. “Great job, you did that perfectly. He just played dirty like the Pokedex said he would. I won’t make the same mistake twice. For now, take a break and recover from that confusion.” I pulled out another Pokeball, this one was a light blue on top, and a darker blue on the bottom. I tossed it in front of me and a large, ten-pointed star emerged from the sphere. He made a loud robotic sound.
    “You’re up.” I said, still telepathically. Since Trypticon was also a Psychic type like Mindbender, I didn’t have to have her connect us. “Alright Tryp, use Camouflage, then use a powerful Psychic attack. Watch out for his tricks. When you do use Camouflage, be careful that he doesn’t try to find you with Mud-Slap. If you see him using that, wash it away with Water Gun. If he doesn’t, then don’t bother.”
    Trypticon nodded and began camouflaging his body. When he did that, he became pretty much like a ghost and invisible to the normal eye. This allowed him to move in as close, or get as far away as needed. Once he did that, he would send a powerful Psychic blast at the small fighter, hitting him hard. Wasn’t much of a plan, but I was trying to make sure he didn’t get confused or had his accuracy lowered as well. It would be annoying to have him do the same trick twice. Then again, I wondered what other tricks he had for us.
    ~~~~~

    It was eerie, watching a Trainer commanding a Pokemon silently. I wondered if it was just as creepy when I commanded my Pokemon in the same manner. It probably wasn't to Ivy - she had pretty much the same link with her Espeon, Haji - but to everyone else it was probably pretty weird.

    Mindbender stood out in the field, not moving and clearly confused. Finally, she turned and began to walk back towards Leo. She made small teleport jumps towards him - the Dynamicpunch was playing with her psychic abilities. My guess was that Leo was recalling her. Obviously he had forgotten about one of the Croagunk's nastier attacks - either that or he didn't know about it.

    The small frog Pokemon jumped towards the retreating Gardevoir, sheathing itself in black energy as it did so. The Croagunk collided into the Psychic-type, sending her flying towards Leo. She struck the ground and cried out. Still, she managed to get to her feet, and she managed to remain there, swaying slightly. Dual wasn't happy about it at all, but he knew better than to go talk to her - Mindbender wouldn't be in a good state of mind right now.

    Leo pulled out a PokeBall, but this one wasn't standard. It was different shades of blue, and it seemed like it was shimmering. He tossed it underarm in front of him, and a Starmie emerged. I, too, had a Starmie - capturing it had been one of the toughest battles I'd been in. Leo remained silent, and I remembered that Starmie was part Psychic too. He must be commanding it telepathically as well.

    The Starmie made its strange vibrating call, and it began to turn invisible in patches and clumps. Well, it wasn't completely invisible - if you concentrated, you could make out its outline, but it was really hard. When the Starmie was completely Camoflaged, it started flying around the arena, and I lost sight of it. The Croagunk did too - it narrowed its eyes and looked all around, but couldn't locate its opponent.

    I switched on a anti-Pokemon filter in my lens, and the Starmie suddenly jumped into view, surrounded by red glow. It was hovering high in the air and off to the side. Energy was gathering around it, no doubt some kind of psychic attack. The Starmie slowly started to move closer to the Croagunk, and a slight whirring filled the air. The noise got louder as Starmie approached, but strangely, the Croagunk seemed to calm down. It hunkered down over the ground and closed its eyes, seemingly ignoring everything.

    When Starmie was barely a few metres away and the buzzing seemed as loud as a chainsaw, the Croagunk suddenly spun around, facing the Psychic-type, and darted towards it. Its fist became coated in a blazing fire, except this fire was as dark as the night and let off no smoke whatsoever. The Fighting-type rammed the fist right into Starmie's centre, and the Psychic-type cried out in that strange voice. The Starmie retaliated explosively - the frog was flung into the air by invisible waves of energy. It spun and flipped through the air before landing on the ground with a thud. The Wild Pokemon started getting to its feet, but it was panting heavily. It was doubly weak to Psychic attacks, so that must have stung like a bitch.

    "Damn bitch, what a cheap shot." I muttered under my breath. "I won't have Tryp use that type of Psychic move again." I looked towards the water and was deciding whether or not I wanted to use a Water-type attack like Surf or Hydro Pump. Hydro Pump was a bit excessive, and also had a higher chance to miss than Surf did. Then again, I didn't really need to do a lot of damage. A Swift combined with something similar would suffice. I wasn't looking to do too much damage. Just enough for it to not break out of my Pokeball.

    "Okay Tryp," I said through our mindlink, "Use Swift and combine it with... Power Gem. That should do a good enough amount of damage. If not burn will hopefully come into play and do the extra little damage we need to capture it." Tryp nodded and began creating Swift. Small orangish yellow particles began forming around Tryp's body. As that was forming, I notcied on the ground, small rocks were levitating off of the ground. They were sharpening smoothly to create a sharp point. Since Tryp was concentrating on both attacks, they wouldn't do as much damage as they normally would, which is what I wanted. I was sure he couldn't handle another Psychic attack, and I wasn't too sure he could handle a Water attack either.

    I reached into my bag and pulled out a Superball. I pressed the middle button and quickly enlarged it. I prepared myself to launch it once Tryp used his attacks. I made sure I was right on target so that I wouldn't miss. I just had to wait until the moves made contact so that Croagunk would be distracted by the attacks and not see the Superball coming towards him. I was usually unlucky when it came to capturing Pokemon on my first attempt. It was as if it were at the chance of a die roll and it was always rolling high numbers and not letting me get what I want.

    "Damn bitch, what a cheap shot," Leo muttered. He didn't sound very happy that the Croagunk had managed to outsmart him. "I won't have Tryp use that type of Psychic move again."

    He fell silent again, and I knew he was commanding the Starmie once more. The Water-type began to surrounding itself with an aura that was shifting between white and yellow and orange. At the same time, small stones and pieces of gravel rose up to hover in a circle around the Pokemon. Slowly, the yellow glow moved from the Starmie into the rocks, and as they did so a spiky star emerged around each rock, with the size of the star depending on the size of the rock. The Starmie made its shuddering noise again, and the rocks blasted towards the Croagunk. They struck the Fighting-type like machine gun fire, and it recoiled, crouching low to avoid contact with the withering hail of projectiles.

    Leo didn't waste any time - he pulled out a Super Ball and expanded it by pressing the button in the middle. The very second that Starmie ended the attack the Ranger threw his ball. It tapped the Croagunk on its back, and the frog was absorbed in a flash of red light. The sphere fell onto the ground and rocked from side to side for a few seconds before stilling.

    "Congratulations on your capture," I said to Leo as I walked over to the ball and picked it up. "For all of its tricks, that Croagunk sure went down easy."

    After tucking the ball into my pack, I heard a splashing in the lake. I looked over to the water and saw a fair-sized red fish splashing around, trying to get attention.

    "It looks like this Magikarp was watching your battle. Do you want to try and capture it?" I asked Leo.

    OOC: lol, but I hadn't even used it yet, w/e I guess xD.

    IC: "Congratulations on your capture," He said to me as he pocketed the Superball. "For all of its tricks, that Croagunk sure went down easy."

    "That is because those tricks were amature. Hopefully the person I give him to will train him better."

    "It looks like this Magikarp was watching your battle. Do you want to try and capture it?" He asked.

    "No, not going to waste my time training another Magikarp. No matter how powerful Gyarados is. Let's go." I said to him. I pulled out a Pokedoll and began to leave. I had trouble escaping a Magikarp last time I was here, which was pretty sad. I wasn't going to risk it this time. I already had my Pokedoll ready.

    All I wanted now was to find a Frillish and a Qwilfish, though I still had a crap load of Pokemon left to find here at the lakes. I didn't know how lucky or unlucky my encounters today would be. I just hoped something I wanted actually came my way.

    "No, not going to waste my time training another Magikarp. No matter how powerful Gyarados is. Let's go," Leo replied.

    I nodded - I wasn't surprised. Even though Gyarados were very strong, Magikarp were extremely common, so every Trainer who was worth their salt had one. That definitely meant that Leo had one, and I wouldn't be surprised if he had two or three.

    "Alright, let's head off then. Chuck it a doll just in case it wants to follow us," I suggested.

    Leo seemed more than happy to do so. He threw a Jigglypuff-shaped plush toy towards the Magikarp. The fish jumped out of the water and caught the toy before swimming away rapidly, as if afraid that Leo would change his mind and try to take the doll back. Once it was out of sight, we continued along the water's edge, and it wasn't long before another fishy Pokemon happened along. This one was a similar colour, but it was much more graceful. Its fins rippled and danced along in the water like a fine ballroom gown.

    "Interested in a Goldeen perhaps, then?" I asked Leo.

    "Ugh, more bullshit," I mumbled quietly to myself, making sure Chain didn't hear. I just shook my head, not saying anything else. "Let's try and get away from this cra-... Pokemon as well. If not, there goes another doll." I said, sounding a bit irritated. My Frillish disk had run out of whatever made it run. I thought it was a bit stupid how disks could run out of something, these must have been some really cheap ass disks. I pulled another one out of my bag, the last one I had for a Frillish and played it again.

    I looked over towards Shadow, he appeared to be doing okay. Better than last time at least. I looked over to the Goldeen and began walking away. Hopefully it wouldn't follow us. I was sure at least one more interesting thing would come my way.

    Leo muttered something when he saw the Goldeen. I couldn't hear exactly what it was, but I was fairly sure he wasn't expressing joy at the sight of the Ocean Queen, as it was known by its adorers.

    "Let's try and get away from this cra... Pokemon as well," Leo said to me, catching himself just in time. "If not, there goes another doll."

    "Sure. Nice save, by the way." I smirked.

    We walked on around the edge of the lake, but the Goldeen continued to follow us. I wasn't entirely sure, but it seemed entranced by Shadow, who was quietly and obediently following his master. I grinned as I contemplated a union between the dog and the fish. That'd be hilarious.

    It wasn't long before Leo grunted unhappily and tossed a doll into the water. It disappeared into the depths of the lake with a plunk and the Goldeen dived off after it. Leo then detached his Pokeplayer and checked the readout. Apparently the Frillish disk he inserted earlier had run dry, because he pulled it out and put a second one in. The cry of the Frillish emanated from the device once again. Surprisingly, there was a reply call not far away. I quickly turned around and surveyed the nearby area. There were no Pokemon to be seen, and it was just your average lakeside scene - a small dirt beach where the water met the land with a few clumps of reeds off to the left.

    I heard the Frillish disk make its noise again, and once more the Frillish replied. I noticed that the reeds were swaying against the lake's natural ripples, and I grinned.

    "I'm pretty sure there's a Frillish hiding in those reeds," I said to Leo, pointing them out to him. "What do you want to do?"

    "Sure. Nice save, by the way." Chain smirked. He was right, I didn’t want to upset the Goldeen and have it follow us. Had Goldeen heard me call it crap, it would have defiintely been offended and perhaps even want to battle to try and teach me a lesson. Although it wouldn’t do much to me, it was best not to anger it, saved me time, and Goldeen from getting hurt.

    We continued walking around the edge of the lake, I was making sure we didn’t go in. If we did, I’d have to get Mindbender to put Shadow in some sort of trance. Or better yet, have her project an image in his head to make him think we were still on land. I looked around to see what other Pokemon I could run into, but nothing, then I turned around and saw the Goldeen continuing to follow us. I didn’t know what the hell it still wanted. Obviously it couldn’t take a hint. I just threw a doll into the water and watched it sink. The stupid fish went right down after it, and we were going to be long gone before it resurfaced. I did like that Pokemon, and I would admit that it was quite beautiful, and I did want to own one at some point, but not right now. Perhaps next time. I heard Seaking were pretty good. Wasn’t sure on the truth behind that though.

    I once more looked around, this time playing my Pokeplayer disk again.This time though, I actually heard a response. Chain pointed over to some reeds, and I nodded. That was were I had heard the sound coming from as well. Now at least something interesting had come my way. I was now pretty excited. It was about time my luck had changed. All I needed now was either a Phione, or Qwilfish… or any of the other plus ten Pokemon I was looking for. What I should be worring about now was capturing this Frillish. Right now that was all that mattered and that was what my attention should be focused on. I was hoping Frillish wasn’t going to be as hard as Croagunk, but then again I didn’t really know much on this Pokemon.

    "I'm pretty sure there's a Frillish hiding in those reeds," Chain said to me, continuing to point out to him. "What do you want to do?" I wanted to slap Chain right there for asking me that. I knew it was park regulation, but I wasn’t looking for Frillish just to take a picture. Obviously I wanted to catch it. Then I realized how grouchy I was. I was glad I didn’t say anything out loud, I didn’t want to get Chain mad or offend him, it wasn’t even his fault. It was because of all the crap Pokemon I had run into today, minus Croagunk. This was the fourth time I had come here and still found nothing good. Up until now at least. Now, a Frillish had finally come my way. I wasn’t even sure what I was going to use. I wasn’t going to decide that until I used my Pokedex to scan it and get the details. I had to see Frillish first in order to scan it though. I’d only seen a Frillish once, but didn’t get to see it in battle. It was in a fashion contest. The owner had dressed it up as the Burger King guy, which seemed a bit weird. However, he strangely managed to win third place. I was only there because the girl I was going out with was entering one of her Pokemon into that contest. I had told her not too, because it didn’t matter how much nice stuff you put on a Stunfisk, it was always ugly to everyone.

    “Okay, let’s go over there then.” I said. “I need to scan it with my Pokedex first. That should help me decide who to use.” I tried to hold back my excitement as I headed over towards where I heard the sound. I looked around the small ran colored reeds to find that small Pokemon. These reeds sort of looked like the stick that Farfetch’d carried, I wouldn’t be surprised if they got it from here.

    “Do you see it Chain?” I asked, looking around for the Water-type Pokemon. Unlike the other Pokemon I usually come into the park to capture, I didn’t do research on this Pokemon. I always came prepared, except for this time. I was just going to have to rely on whatever information my Pokedex was going to give me. I hoped that it would be enough to capture this thing. This couldn’t be too hard.

    “Okay, let’s go over there then. I need to scan it with my Pokedex first. That should help me decide who to use.” Leo explained.

    I nodded and followed him over. I knew exactly which Pokemon he should use, but I bit my tongue; Frillish's Ghost typing was bad news for both Trypticon and Mindbender, and while Shadow was Dark-typed he was also Fire-typed, which meant that the aquatic Pokemon would cause him a world of hurt. That only left Mirage - the Dark-typed Zoroark would be perfect for taking on a Frillish. Still, I guess Leo wanted information on the Wild Pokemon's moves and abilities so he could better battle it.

    We looked around the clump of reeds, bending as far out over the river as we could without falling it. I was confident it was in there, because it occasionally responded to one of Leo's Pokeplayer's calls, but I couldn't see it at all.

    "Do you see it, Chain?" Leo asked me.

    "No, nothing yet," I started, but then a small blue tentacle snaked out from the reeds. Surprisingly, it appeared near the top of the tall stalks as opposed to near the water.

    "Yeah, it's over here," I amended my statement, "but it's playing hard to get, I think."

    The tentacle waved coyly, but then started to stiffen as Leo came around to take a look. It started to glow white, which was a pretty fair indication that it was getting ready for battle. I took a step back, and waved my arm at Leo, indicating for him to do the same.

    "Be careful, it's getting up to something," I warned my Trainer.

    "No, nothing yet.” Chain replied. "Yeah, it's over here, but it's playing hard to get, I think." He said, staring down at it. I looked around that area, but still didn’t see anything. I moved closer and then saw a small blue tentacle coming up from one of the reeds. I saw that it was glowiing white, I had no iddea why. Chain moved back so I could get in. "Be careful, it's getting up to something," he warned me.

    I moved closer to get a better look at it. As I did, I saw its small, blue jelly body. The Jellyfish-like Pokémon had a small crown on its head, as if royaltly. It did look pretty cool I had to admit. It also had five tentacle-like appendages, which looked smoothed out. He had oval eyes, blue with a red iris, with a higher, strait eyelash on each eye. It had a small collar-like thing around its neck, it was a bit wavy. It appeared to be levitating above the water. This was a pretty fascinating Pokémon, at least in looks. I couldn’t wait to see how it did in battle; I hoped it didn’t disappoint me.

    “You are using me to battle, right?” Shadow asked me.

    “The thought crossed my mind, but no.”
    I responded through the psychic connection Mindbender had permanently set up for us. I loved that she did that for us, it made understanding Shadow much easier and dramatically increased our bond. I wasn’t sure I could ever thank her properly for that.

    “Yeah, I was just kidding.” Shadow pointed out. “You’re using him right?” He said, pointing behind me with his long arrow shaped tail.

    “I don’t know yet.” I said, “I still need to scan this Frillish first. Then I can decide who to use.”

    “But you already decided you weren’t using me.”
    He grumbled. I just laughed. I pulled out my small black and yellow device and pointed it at Frillish. I clicked the black button and the green light shot out and hit the Water type Pokemon.

    Frillish – the Floating Pokemon. Frillish is a dual typed Pokemon, being both Ghost type, and Water type. It weighs between sixty to one hundred pounds and is about three to five feet tall. Frillish know the ability Water Absorb or Cursed Body, rarer ones even know Damp. Frillish are hadalpelagic creatures and live in dens some 8,000 meters under the sea surface. Therefore Frillish must be able to cope with extremely dark and highly pressurized sea conditions. Frillish are known to gently float around in the waves until they are prepared to strike their prey. Frillish makes its victim numb with the use of its poison and takes it to its deep den, which means they are carnivorous. With its thin, veil-like arms wrapped around the body of its opponent, it sinks to the ocean floor. Unlike most Pokemon, Frillish can be told apart based on several of their bodily features. Female Frillish have wavier pads on their tentacles, a more crownlike tuft on their heads, and are pink in color, while males are blue. Males also have a frowning face whereas females have a smiling face. Males have red eyes with blue sclera while females have blue eyes with red sclera.

    “Hmm, well don’t I feel dumb.” I mumbled. “Didn’t know it was also part Ghost. Based on the information I just received, I now know that this Frillish is a male.”

    “So, now that you heard all that bullshit, who are you using?” Shadow asked me again.”

    “Hmm. This Frillish is part Ghost, so that may be a problem for Trypticon and Mindbender. I know they can easily handle this, but the chance of a super effective attack hitting them doesn’t sound good to me. So yeah, like you said eariler, I’m using him.”
    I sidestepped and snapped my fingers. As I did, a large, black and red maned fox Pokemon emerged by my side. It was Mirage, my Zoroark. He had be following us, but remaining invisible to us until now. He liked being like that, and I respected it. I guessed it was part of his calm and sly nature. His ability, Illusion, allowed him to create illusions at will and project them into anyones head. I loved it since it allowed us to play pranks on the staff here at the park. It was also incredibly useful in battle.

    “Alright Mirage. You see what we’re up against. That Frillish is already ready to attack so be careful. For now, let’s start off with Calm Mind and then go into Dark Pulse. We won’t do anything too complicated right now.” I looked over at the Frillish and wondered what kind of attack he could be using. Being the second time I see one, the first time that I actually see one battle, I wasn’t too sure what exact moves to expect. I was only expecting basic things like Bubblebeam and Hydro Pump, but those didn’t cause the user to glow white. It did look a little like Safeguard, which prevented me from doing any status inflicting moves. That was okay with me though, I didn’t plan on using any in this battle, nor did Mirage know any since I hadn’t taught him any yet. I hoped that was what this move was, if not, I hoped it wasn’t anything too big.

    I looked over towards Mirage, who was now beginning the sequence. His whole body began giving off a shade of blue that matched the water. It looked really relaxing, and he seemed that way as well. That was what Calm Mind did, it cleared the mind so that they are more pumped and focused on the battle at hand. It gave them a small boost in their power as well, moreso the special attack and special defense.

    After he powered up and was focused, he would begin Dark Pulse. It was a bit odd using those two moves like that. Calm Mind did calm the user down, but Dark Pulse caused them to rile up dark energy, which sometimes caused bad thoughts. Small black rings would form in front of Mirage, then merge together and form one large ring that he would fire. Out of that ring would come small pulses of the dark energy and would more than likely hit Frillish.

    “You can do this buddy!” I called out, trying to give him as much moral support as I could to boost his confidence. He didn’t need it, but it didn’t hurt to give. I knew he’d make me proud, though, I’d be proud even if he lost... even though I knew that wasn’t possible. I waited and watched curiously to see what this Frillish had in store for us. I was sure whatever it was, we could handle it.
