Leo ignored my warning and stepped closer, getting a better look at the smoothly-moving tentacle. The white glow didn't seem to be an offensive technique, which was lucky. I thought it was the beginnings of a Substitute, but as no clone appeared I must have been wrong.

The Frillish slowly moved out of the reeds, and again I was surprised. Not only was it levitating completely out of the water, but it was more humanoid than I would have expected. The Wild Pokemon looked at Leo curiously but carefully as he pulled out his Pokedex. The machine rattled off a huge list of mostly useless facts, and I zoned out a little bit. Who cared if it was hadalpelagic or monosyllabic or metagachromic?

Leo seemed to be having a bit of trouble deciding who to use in battle, but eventually he made his decision. He moved to the side and snapped his fingers, and the large black foxy form of his Zoroark materialised out of midair. It took all of my self control to not jump backwards in surprise. Still, I shouldn't have been surprised - Mirage wasn't a huge fan of PokeBalls. He preferred to follow his master silently and invisibly, using his Illusion Ability to cloak himself.

“Alright Mirage. You see what we’re up against. That Frillish is already ready to attack so be careful," Leo warned his Pokemon. "For now, let’s start off with Calm Mind and then go into Dark Pulse. We won’t do anything too complicated right now.”

Mirage seemed to contract and relax a little bit, and a gentle blue aura of a similar shade to the lake surrounded him, concentrating around his head. It was the exact same colour that Dual produced when he used Calm Mind. The technique relaxed the mind and prepared the user for the arduous task of grappling mentally with another in battle.

After a couple of seconds, the Frillish started to drift closer curiously, and Mirage made his move. He held his hands halfway up, and lots of little black disks appeared, floating above his hands. In one quick movement, he smashed his hands together - fusing all the small disks neatly into one big one - and then pushed his hands outwards, pushing the attack towards the Frillish. The disk moved side-on towards the Wild Pokemon, and grew in size as it approached. The Dark Pulse didn't appear to make any physical contact with the Water-type, but it must have caused the Frillish some discomfort because it keened as the attack passed through it. When the disk had passed entirely through the Frillish, it detonated silently, exploding into lots of tiny black sparks which fell into the lake and extinguished.

The Frillish recoiled, and looked like it was about to cry for a second. Then, suddenly, its expression became one of rage, and it shot towards Mirage with a speed I would not have expected. It wrapped its long legs and arms around the Dark-type and began squeezing him mercilessly. Mirage got out a single rushed squeak of surprise before the breath was forcibly expelled from his lungs.

Mirage had preformed the moves perfectly. I didn’t expect Frillish to move in like that so stupidly. I did however, expect him to attack. Like I had thought, the white glow was indeed Safeguard. That was perfectly fine with me though since Mirage didn’t know status inflicting moves like Thunder Wave or Will-o-Wisp. I wasn’t sure though, if he could still be burned by the after effects of Flamethrower. Not that I would use a Fire type move on a Water type though. I couldn’t help but to wonder though.

Frillish then did something I wasn’t expecting. It shot forward with incredible speed, one that I didn’t know it had, and wrapped itself around Mirage, squeezing him tight and trying to suck out the air from him. I had to find a way to get him out of there before he passed out from lack of air, or was, was suffocated. Then, I had an idea. I wasn’t totally sure if it would work or not, but I had to try something. It was a bit risky, but better than nothing. If worse came, I would just return him to his Pokeball. No way I’d let this prolong.

“Alright Mirage, focus on what I’m saying. Use Hone Claws, then use Fury Swipes as many times as possible to make it let you go.” I called out. I know Normal type moves normally didn’t work on Ghost type Pokemon, but it wasn’t impossible. I knew that in order to grab Mirage, Frillish had to be solid. Mirage would grow his claws with Hone Claws and make them long enough for him to cut Frillish. Then he would begin slashing wildly at Frillish until he went back into ghost form. When he went back into that form, he wouldn’t be able to have his grip on Mirage anymore because he no longer had a solid form. It was a long shot, but I had a feeling it would work. For my sake, and Mirage’s, I hoped it did.

“Mindbender, link my mind to Mirage’s mind. I want to tell him what else to do.” I said to her.

“Alright, done.” She said, not even ten seconds later.

“Mirage, the moment you break free, use Night Daze to knock it back and give you enough time to get back on your feet.” When Mirage used Night Daze, his eyes would glow light blue and his body would become surrounded by a crimson aura. When he raised his arms above his head, the aura around his forearms gets thicker right before he slammed his arms down into the ground. Then a pink glowing forcefield of energy would appear from the aura around Mirage's arms and grows larger, spreading all around it. Then he would launch it at Frillish, knocking it back. I hoped that that would give Mirage enough time to catch his breath and get back in the game.

Leo delayed for a second, clearly surprised by the Frillish’s move choice. It certainly was interesting, but not unheard of: Frillish was a jellyfish Pokemon, and Wring Out was a Special-based move.

“Alright, Mirage, focus on what I’m saying. Use Hone Claws, then use Fury Swipes as many times as possible to make it let you go,” Leo ordered.

I frowned, confused. Frillish was a Ghost type Pokemon, which meant that a Normal-typed attack like Fury Swipes would have no effect. Perhaps there was something I was overlooking. Mirage managed to get out a howl, and his claws – pinned to his side by the Frillish’s flowing body – began to grow as a mystical dark aura surrounded them. He started to flex his arms, freeing them slightly, and he started to scratch at the Frillish’s body. Initially, nothing seemed to happen, but I began to see annoyance in the Frillish’s expression, followed quickly by pain. My guess was that by using Hone Claws, the Fury Swipes attack was utilising Dark energy, thus hurting the Frillish. A green aura began to surround the combatants, fighting with the dark aura, but it didn't seem strong enough to chase the darkness away.

Finally, unable to bear the pain any longer, the Water-type retreated from Mirage, back towards the reeds, and both the black and green energies faded away. However, the Illusion Pokemon was ready – he raised his arms and crimson/black energy appeared around them, bringing to mind the colours one saw at a sunset. He slammed his fists into the ground in front of him and the colours blasted towards Frillish, knocking it over and causing it to squeal with a strange, shifting voice. The Night Daze bubbled in a huge pool of gloop for a few seconds before fading out of existence. The Frillish slowly righted itself, watching the Zoroark carefully. After a couple of seconds, it sheathed itself in a white light, similar to the Safeguard it had used earlier, except this one was much thicker and concentrated around its head.

“That looks a bit like a Psych Up. Be careful,” I called out to Leo.

My plan had worked just as I thought. Normal type attacks wouldn't hurt Ghost types, but if the Ghost type Pokemon could grab onto Mirage, then his body could be hit. It made perfect sense to me, and it seemed to work fine.

“That looks a bit like a Psych Up. Be careful,” Chain called out to me. I had noticed that too. Now he had the same stats as me. Or, almost the same. Now, I was going to have Mirage use Swords Dance, then go in with Night Slash. That would do enough damage and be enough for me to capture him. Or at least I hoped it would.

"Okay Mirage, use Swords Dance, then Night Slash. Just be careful not to knock it out." I called out. Then I pulled out a Soothing Fragrance Plus opened the vile to release the insides. I also pulled out a Hyperball, and prepared myself to throw it.

Mirage's claws began to expand longer once more. That was the sign that Swords Dance was beginning. I could never tell if it worked until after the damage has been done, but I was positive that it would. After he did that, his left claw would glow the same color as it did earlier when he used Night Daze. He would then slash Frillish hard. It would be after this attack that I would throw my Hyperball. If he came out of the Pokeball, I don't think I would risk hitting him again since he wouldn't have that much energy left, or at least that is what I thought, we'd just have to wait and see.

"Okay Mirage, use Swords Dance, then Night Slash. Just be careful not to knock it out," Leo cautioned.

The Zoroark began swaying from side to side, and his claws extended further, except now they were coated in blue energy instead of the dark energy of Hone Claws. The Frillish watched this with a worried look on its face, and decided to go on the offensive. A huge blast of water erupted from its mouth, striking Mirage right in the middle of his face. The Dark-type grunted, but finished his Swords Dance, and then swung his right arm quickly upwards towards the sky. A huge black slice cut the Hydro Pump in two all the way along and cracked the Frillish on the back of its head. The Water-type moaned and collapsed, falling onto the surface of the water, which gently brought it close to the shore.

Leo moved forward with a Mart spray, and used it carefully on the Frillish. Its expression of anguish and pain softened a little bit. The Ranger pulled a Hyper Ball out of his pocket and tossed it underarm towards the Wild Pokemon. It made contact with the semi-conscious Frillish and absorbed the Pokemon before falling onto the lakeside. The device rocked from side to side before eventually stilling.

"Congratulations," I said as I walked over and picked the Hyper Ball up. "Is there anything else in particular you're looking for?"

"Congratulations," Chain said to me. "Is there anything else in particular you're looking for?"

"Thanks." I said, "and thank you Mirage. You did a great job." Mirage smiled and became invisible again, I knew he would stay close by incase I needed him again. I was glad I at least found one Pokemon that I had wanted. "Um. There is still a lot I want, but right now I would like to find a Qwilfish. I'll use another voice disk."

I put my Frillish voice disk back in and pulled out a Qwilfish one. I popped it in and pressed play. "I guess let's just walk around and see what Pokemon shows up."

Leo thanked the Zoroark. The Dark-type smiled and slowly faded out of sight, which was actually really creepy. It was even creepier to think that the Pokemon was silently and undetectably following us. I made a mental note to develop a visor filter to counter Mirage's Illusion Ability.

"There is still a lot I want, but right now I would like to find a Qwilfish," Leo said to me. "I'll use another voice disk. I guess let's just walk around and see what Pokemon shows up."

He ejected the Frillish disk and inserted a Qwilfish one. The Pokeplayer started emitting a high-pitched tone that I was sure would echo underwater. I nodded and led Leo further around the lakebed. Thankfully, his battle with the Frillish had been quick and caused next to no environmental damage so there was no need to clean up.

About two minutes later I started hearing some loud repetitive thuds. I looked around but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. As soon as we passed a large rock, though, I saw a blue quadrupedal Pokemon punching the rock repeatedly with large white fists.

"Interested in catching a Poliwrath?" I whispered to Leo. The Water-type hadn't seen us yet, so it was possible for us to sneak away still.

OOC: Got me excited lol. The 'encountered' part of your post is where I look first and I saw Qwilfish there xD. Jerk. lol, jk

About two minutes after leaving the area where I had found Frillish, we encounted a Poliwrath. Poliwrath was cool and all, but it had nothing on Politoed. I sort of wanted a Poliwag, but it wasn't on my priority list or anything. I could do without for now. What I did want though, was a Qwilfish, Corphish, or Phione. Maybe even a Krabby. But, I wanted them to be in basic form, not evolved.

"Interested in catching a Poliwrath?" He whispered quietly to me.

"Nope. Not interested." I quickly whispered back to him. I pulled out a Pokedoll incase it by chance happened to turn around and spot us. I wanted to escape this POkemon without having to waste a Pokedoll, but that hasn't been possible so far. "Let's get out of here quickly so it doesn't spot us."

OOC: @Bumblebee Whoops, my bad dude lol. Hope this makes up for it.

"Nope, not interested. Let's get out of here quickly so it doesn't spot us," Leo whispered back.

Unfortunately, that whisper tipped the Poliwrath off. It turned around and made a threatening-sounding warble. It clenched its fist and started running towards us. I swore - Poliwrath were strong, but slow. The only hope we had was to get out onto the water where we could outrun it - if we stayed on land it would eventually find us, but crossing a body of water would cause us to lose it. I yelled at Leo to follow and pulled him towards the water. I picked a PokeBall off my belt and threw it towards the water. It split open and as it returned to my hand I saw the white flash resolve into the familiar form of my Metagross. He thudded down into the ground and I jumped up onto his back. Leo scrambled up after me, and together we pulled Shadow up onto Meta's back. I rapped his hard metallic skin twice and he hovered up into the air before shooting off across the water. The Poliwrath forged past the incoming waves, but it gave up after long.

"Well, that was exciting," I said to Leo. I noticed Shadow wasn't very happy, but I didn't say anything. I heard a sudden splash, and I noticed a bulbous yet spiky Pokemon watching us through beady eyes. I laughed out loud and pointed it out to Leo.

"Damn, your luck is good," I said happily. "Or perhaps it's just my usual disk magic."

Just as I had thought, my luck wasn’t that good when it came to escaping Pokémon for some reason. They always wanted to follow me, or battle me, or just attack me. I had no luck when it came to that. Had I not found a Frillish today, I might have gotten a bit angry, but since I found and caught one, I was in a pretty good mood. Poliwrath was now angry for some reason; it was almost as if my presence angered every Pokémon that I came across.

Chain tossed out his Pokeball and a large, blue, metal four-legged spider came out and hovered over the water. Chain quickly jumped on and I followed him. Now was the tricky part, getting Shadow to get on as well. It took a bit of tugging and pulling, but we finally managed to pull him on. I held onto him tight and covered his eyes.

“Mirage, do your thing.” I said telepathically to my black illusionist fox. He was going to project an illusion onto Shadow to keep him calm. He was going to make him think he was still on land so that he wouldn’t freak out since we sort of forced him onto a small area in the middle of the lake. I didn’t want to do anything that made him uncomfortable, so I felt bad about doing this, but as long as I kept him calm, he would be find.

"Well, that was exciting," Chain said to me.

“That’s one way of putting it.” I said laughing, rubbing Shadow’s head. I could tell the illusion was working, because his expression changed, and he looked pretty happy right now, if it wasn’t working, he wouldn’t be this happy. I then heard a splash underneath us and looked over to see what was there. At first I only saw symmetrical ripples in the water, but then I saw it. It was what I had come here for.

It was a small, round fish Pokémon covered in many sharp spikes. Some of those spikes were leaking some sort of purple liquid, which I figured had to be poisonous. Its paddle-shaped tail slammed down hard into the water, splashing me with the water. The way it kept smacking its lips together made me laugh. I quickly stopped though, I didn’t want to offend it, because I knew where that would lead.

"Damn, your luck is good," Chain said happily. "Or perhaps it's just my usual disk magic."

“Yeah, my luck is pretty good.” I said agreeing with him. “but you’re right. It probably is your disk magic. I don’t usually get both disks to work, especially so quickly, almost back to back. Except with Ivy, hers appears to be somewhat good too.” I swiftly pulled out my Pokedex and scanned the Pokémon before anything else could be done.

Qwilfish – the Balloon Pokémon. Qwilfish are between one foot to three feet long and weigh between eight to fifteen pounds. This Pokémon is a dual type, being both Water type and Poison type. To fire its poison spikes, it must inflate its body by drinking over 2.6 gallons of water all at once. By doing that, they can expand their body, which they use as a protective measure to try and scare off enemies. The small spikes covering its body developed from scales. They inject a toxin that causes fainting. Because of their round bodies, they are horrible swimmers.

“Horrible swimmer, huh.” I said aloud. “Okay then. You’re up Tryp.” I said, tossing his Pokeball into the water. The large, heavy starfish Pokémon emerged from the sphere. I knew he could easily out swim Qwilfish and was skilled in Psychic type moves and Electric type moves would do some good damage to this waterfish Pokémon.

“Trpy, use Psychic to start this off. It isn’t very fast, so you can easily outspeed it.” I said telepathically. “Though, I do want you to be careful. If and when you see it sucking in water, you know that it will be releasing the spikes from its body, which are extremely poisonous. When he does that though, if he does that, send a small Thunder Wave blast her way. Have her suck that up.” Tryp just nodded. He was one with few words and hardly ever spoke unless needed.

Since Qwilfish probably wouldn’t try swimming away, I wondered what it would try to do to defend itself. I was ready for most Poison type attacks, but I knew those weren’t the only moves it knew. Since I didn’t know what else it would do, we were going to have to take offense first and gain early control of the battle. Which was something I didn’t usually do. In fact, I always played defensively until the end. This time though, I didn’t really care to test the Qwilfish to see what it was made of. I just wanted to capture it and be done with this. I could check later to see what it knew and how it battled. I guess I was just a bit tired today.

Trypticon began glowing a bright baby blue color. He was focusing on Qwilfish. He was going to send pulses of psychic energy into the fish’s body to deal damage. I wasn’t expecting much, but anything was better than nothing. If I wanted to do more damage later, I would just use Thunder. Thunder Wave was an easy move for him to use. He wasn’t going to use it though unless Qwilfish starting sucking up water. Then he would fire a small blue-green orb of electrical energy into the area where Qwilfish was sucking and have it eat that.

“Yeah, my luck is pretty good, but you’re right. It probably is your disk magic. I don’t usually get both disks to work, especially so quickly, almost back to back. Except with Ivy, hers appears to be somewhat good too."

"Pfft, Ivy's a noob, her disk magic isn't as good as mine," I muttered while Leo pulled out his Pokedex and scanned the Qwilfish. The machine spat out its information again in the strange, robotic monotone that was its trademark.

When the Pokedex was finished speaking, Leo said, “Horrible swimmer, huh. Okay then. You’re up Tryp."

Leo tossed a PokeBall into the water, and the usual bright flash was muted by the water. Leo's Starmie burst out of the waves a moment later and greeted us with its strange repeating call. It was then silent, and I realised that Leo was commanding the Pokemon telepathically again.

The Starmie turned around and hovered directly over the Qwilfish, its jewel pointing down into the water. A light blue aura surrounded the Psychic-type, and it fired circles of light blue energy into the waves. They didn't slow upon hitting the liquid, and each one pushed the Qwilwish down into the lake and knocking it around a bit.

After a barrage of the disks, the Qwilfish swum back up a bit and danced around insultingly. It stuck its tiny tongue out of its mouth and bobbed from side to side, using the water to wag its tongue. Trypticon made an angry-sounding noise and it started to spin a lot faster. I shuffled back a little bit in response - I had no wish to be anywhere near a pissed-off Starmie.

Trypticon went over towards Qwilfish and sent off the blue energy waves hit Qwilfish, pushing the fat fish off down the lake. Qwilfish cried out in pain, and I knew Trypticon did a decent amount of damage to it. It was a pretty good start. Qwilfish recovered quickly, which was what I was expecting, and swam back to the battlefield. What she did next though, caught me off guard. I expected it to also go on the offense and attack back, but instead, she started off on the defense. I hated when things caught me off guard, it made me feel unprepared. I was going to have to get back at the Qwilfish for that.

Qwilfish did some kind of stupid dance and moved around mockingly. Now, Trypticon normally wasn’t one to let this kind of stuff affect him, but Taunt was a move that pushed all kinds of Pokémon’s buttons. It was a move that almost always got the opponent angry. Taunt not only angered the Pokémon, but it caused them to not be able to perform non-attacking based moves and forced them to use attacking moves only. It was a bit of a disappointment since Tryp could no longer use his Thunder Wave attack, but I would have to do without. Perhaps I could get lucky with another attack.

Trypticon was now angry, and I couldn’t calm him down, at least not at the moment. I would have to wait until he calmed down a bit, and then try to calm him down. For a second, I just wanted to call him back. There was no sense in having him fight like this. I didn’t like my Pokémon to fight in this state. They didn’t have a clear mind, so they weren’t fighting at their best. Right now, I would just have to go with this and use it to my advantage. It wasn’t like I had much of a choice here. Mindbender wouldn’t have much room to fight on Chain’s Metagross, not to mention it would probably be uncomfortable for Metagross. I could have Mindbender levitate over the water and fight like that, but then I felt she wouldn’t be totally focused. She’d be focusing half on trying to stay above water, (which honestly, wasn’t that hard, but I still didn’t want to have her do that) and battling. Mirage wouldn’t be able to focus much either, he was already making an illusion to shield Shadow from where we were, I didn’t want to have him doing two things at once. He was good at doing that, and illusions came naturally for him, the amount of room we had was limited. Nope, I would just have to make this work, but be careful about doing it.

“Okay Tryp. Use Thunder on Qwilfish.” I said telepathically. Then I thought about all the other Pokémon in the water that were minding their own business, not knowing what was about to hit them. They too would also be affected by this. I didn’t want to harm any nearby Pokémon. That would not only be reckless and stupid, but make me look bad as an Elite Ranger because I should have known better. I couldn’t have either of that. I saw Tryp begin to move. Then, an idea came to mind, and I found a way to utilize the Taunt and this current situation. “Wait. Dive underwater. Once there, use Camouflage to hide yourself. Then swiftly, but as ninja-like as possible, make your way towards Qwilfish. When you get close enough, use Rapid Spin and make a small water tornado to send him above water.” A normal fish Pokemon would be able to easily maneuver through that, but since I learned that Qwilfish were horrible swimmers, this could work. “When you get him above water, then use Thunder and full blast, because this might not work a second time.” I said to him.

Tryp, although still angry, nodded that it understood. I hoped everything I said went in. I saw Tryp dive under water, and could only hope that it did, he never let me down. Now, I would have to predict what was going on. Tryp was now more than likely using Camouflage to blend in with his surroundings, similar to like how he used it earlier today against that Croagunk. He would then creep over as quickly and sneakily as possible and begin spinning rapidly, forming a small whirlpool that would soon go above water, sending Qwilfish with it. Then Tryp would quickly resurface and shot the blue and white electricity from the center of his jewel. At least that is how I pictured it. By my calculations, Tryp should now be closing in to use Rapid Spin. That Qwilfish didn’t know what was coming, thanks to the telepathy, so I hoped Tryp hit him hard. I just watched and waited, hoping that he heard everything I told him and used these moves correctly. Otherwise, I would have to find some other way to make use of this Taunt.

Leo saw that Trypticon was enraged, and he looked around - first at the Starmie, then at his belt, and then at an empty patch on Meta's back. I had a funny feeling that Mirage was sitting there, invisible, and I got an itch that felt much like a sniper scope was resting on the back of my head. Finally, he shook his head and looked back at Trypticon, issuing his orders silently once more.

When Leo was finished, Trypticon spun once and dived into the ocean. The Starmie flickered a couple times, like it was trying to use Camoflage, but the attempt was incomplete - it hovered in and out of sight. The Qwilfish began to puff up, and it fired a green laser out of each of its spikes as it returned to its normal size. All the lasers curved towards Trypticon, and they peppered the Psychic-type like machinegun fire. Trypticon managed to shrug them off, though, and he continued to dive, right past the Qwilfish. He spun as he did so, and a bit of the water began to rise up. I had to keep my jaw from dropping as a huge twister rose up from the water, seemingly out of nothing. I switched on my visor's heat sensor, and I couldn't hold back a quick laugh when I saw the Qwilfish's round body circling inside the tornado.

Trypticon stopped spinning inside the water, and shot up towards his opponent. Small electrical sparks trailed behind him in the water, and he smashed into the Qwilfish amidst the raging whirlpool. He also emitted a huge amount of electricity, which swirled around inside the water-tornado along with the water. Blue water clashed with yellow energy as sparks jetted out of the fearsome tornado and lanced into the water, but they fizzed out before they travelled too far.

The twister began to collapse, but Trypticon chose to remain hovering instead of following the water down into the lake. The Qwilfish bobbed up to the surface after a couple seconds. It was twitching slightly, and I immediately recognised the signs of paralysis. That Thunder attack must have hit the Poison-type in a weak spot and locked up its muscles!

OOC: Female. And if it captures, you can end it, even though I feel something good coming.

“Well done Tryp!” I called out happily. That maneuver went off better than I had expected. I was quite pleased. I knew he would do well. He paralyzed Qwilfish, something I saw possible, but wasn’t quite expecting. It was perfect because the affects of Taunt still lingered, so there was no way I was going to get Thunder Wave to work properly and effectively. This was going to make capturing it that much easier. Now, though, I wasn’t quite sure what move to have him do. I didn’t like being repetitive, but there wasn’t much else he could do.

He knew Tackle attack, but with those spikes, there was no way I was letting him get that close and make contact with them. Water type attacks wouldn’t be effective, so I didn’t want to both with those, and he couldn’t use any non-attacking type moves. So that left me with another Electric-type attack, Thunderbolt, but more accurate and precise move than Thunder. It was all I had. I was quite confident that I could capture it after that move, but I hoped I wasn’t pressing my luck.

“Okay Trypticon, let’s finish this up with Thunderbolt. Don’t let your guard down though, she will still attack and try to fight us off.” I said once more telepathically. I reached into my bag and pulled out one more vile of a relaxant fragrance, Calming Fragrance Plus. It would hopefully do the trick and help me bag and tag this Pokémon. I also got out of my bag a Hyperball for a more guaranteed capture, it was the highest quality Pokeball that could be bought here in the open market. I had a Supreme Parkball and a Masterball, both of which were much higher than a Hyperball, but those were too important to use on this Pokémon. I planned on using a Masterball on Phione because of its rarity.

Trypticon began charging up his electric attack. The blue and white electrical sparks coming off of his body glimmered nicely over the surface of the water, alongside with the sun. I always enjoyed the crackling sound that the electricity made, wasn’t sure why though.

I pressed the center of the Hyperball, which instantly enlarged it twice its normal size. I always wondered how Pokémon could fit inside this Pokeball. There was no Pokémon small enough to fit inside. Something as big as Wailord fitting inside one of these was hilarious. My guess was that the red light shrunk them down to size to fit inside the sphere. Wasn’t sure how comfortable it was. Come to think of it, it must not be that comfortable, which is probably why Shadow doesn’t like being in them. I’ll have to ask him sometime soon.

"Well done, Tryp!" Leo called out happily. He grinned and closed his eyes, no doubt communicating his orders to Trypticon. The Starmie went bwaaaa and started spinning, and once again electrical energy began swirling around the Psychic-type. Not for the first time I was impressed by the diverse range of techniques that Starmie possessed. Very few Pokemon could utilise Electric-type attacks.

Trypticon fired the Thunderbolt towards the Qwilfish. The attack struck and the Poison-type was launched up into the air. It landed with a plop back into the water, and it continued to twitch painfully. Leo pulled out a HyperBall and threw it towards the Wild Pokemon. It was absorbed in a flash of red light, and the ball rocked on the surface of the water as its inbuilt flotation devices activated.

After a couple seconds, the sphere burst open, and the Qwilfish emerged. It seemed to have regained control of its muscles, as it began to swim in a tight circle on top of the lake. Another tornado formed, except this was much smaller and a dark sphere hovered right in the middle. When it was the size of a beach ball, the Qwilfish batted the ball with its blue-marked cream tail towards Trypticon. The Shadow Ball exploded when it made contact with Leo's Pokemon, knocking back into the air but doing minimal damage. The HyperBall continued to float on the water, but on the other side of the battle. Leo would have to wait until after this ended to recover the sphere.

"Hmm, looks like we still need to weaken it some more Tryp. Use Swift, that should do the trick." I called out to my ten-pointed starfish. There was no way I could get the Hyperball back without Trypticon taking some damage. I was just going to have to use another one until after this battle. Then I could recover the other Hyperball.

I reached into my bag and pulled out another Hyperball, doing the exact same thing with it. I quickly enlarged it and took aim. Trpyticon moved swiftly a little closer to Qwilfish and began launching a bunch of dull yellow stars at the pufferfish Pokemon. As soon as I saw those stars leave Tryp's body, I launched my Hyperball and crossed my fingers.

"Hmm, looks like we still need to weaken it some more, Tryp. Use Swift, that should do the trick," Leo called out. I wondered why he wasn't giving the Starmie its orders telepathically any more - perhaps he was just tired. Communicating mentally with Pokemon over long periods of time did get tiring, at least it did for me. Excepting Dual, of course. Telepathic conversations with him required no more effort than breathing.

Trypticon began to rotate on the axis of its jewel and it coated itself in a faint, light-yellow light. The Qwilfish, acting fast, opened its mouth and shot a green beam of light up towards the Psychic-type. It wasn't fast enough, though - Trypticon began to fire lots of little yellow stars directly down into the beam. Slowly the multitude of exploding stars pushed the beam back, until it was shoved inside the Qwilfish's mouth. The Poison-type floated helplessly on the Water's surface while it was pelted with stars, and that was when Leo made his move. He pulled out a second Hyper Ball and threw it at the Wild Pokemon.

The Qwilfish was absorbed in another flash of red light. This time, however, it stayed captured. "Congratulations," I said to Leo as I reached out for Meta telekinetically. At my request, the Metagross used his magnetic powers to lift both Hyper Balls into the air, depositing them safely in my hands.

"I'm ready to go now," Leo said after returning Trypticon to its ball. I nodded, unsurprised - now that Leo had three Pokemon he wanted, there was no reason to stick around. It wasn't an uncommon occurrence for Trainers to leave early if they had an abundance of good luck regarding the Pokemon they encountered.

I handed both of the Hyper Balls to Leo, along with the balls of the Frillish and the Croagunk he had captured. I rapped on Meta's back and we shot off across the waves once more, this time heading towards the exit. I reclined back on the Steel-type's hard shell, being careful to avoid the spot where I was sure Mirage was hiding. It had been a good run, especially because it had been with one of my friends - hopefully we could do it again soon.
