Individual RP: Synthesis

NBP1:

Buzz pushed the heavy wrought iron gates to the National Park open. It had been many years since he had ventured into the Park, as either a trainer or a ranger. He took a breath of the air and memories of the runs he had taken himself as well as those he had taken as a ranger. It was time to get back to work. The break he had taken was necessary, but he was looking forward to all the enjoyment the Park had to offer.

Buzzer stepped into the Ranger headquarters, and noticed not much had changed since the last time had been here. The reception desk was empty unfortunately, the place seemed reasonably tidy. He assumed Ivy had been taking care of the office with her promotion. Keeping the place tidy was unlike Leo and Chainy. He strolled past the notice board briefly glancing at the new additions to the shop including the Apricorns and the reintroduction of Honey. it all seemed interesting but he had read it all in the emails.

Clambering back into his old desk, he wiped the dust of the monitor and keyboard and logged in. 3000 emails, what on earth, he sighed. He glanced around to make sure no-one was looking as he swiftly erased all the emails in one click.

A flash of light from his belt and River Tam appeared resting on the ranger's shoulders. "And you just assume that all of those were meaningless?" River transmitted across the psychic link that often was formed between trainers and Psychic type Pokémon. Rangers used this to their advantage on their runs. Unfortunately for Buzz, River Tam his Xatu was almost as sarcastic as he was. Buzz didn't bother responding, instead chose to go grab a coffee and glanced at the pending trainer's board.

Peanut? What kind of a name is that. Also since when did the Sandy Beach become a thing?

"I told you not to delete those emails, dumbass," River muttered. Buzz sighed and took the application form from the board and filled out the necessary documents at reception. Buzz knew that the lakes scenery included areas of beach so he assumed that would be where the run was. He checked his belt for which Pokémon he had with him. Raiding the ranger supply on his way out of the door.

The mid twenties ranger leant on the outer wall of headquarters waiting patiently for his trainer. It was a pleasant day with very little wind, but he still had his rain wear in his backpack as the lakes were prone to variable weather.

We were running a little late, and by that I mean literally running. Admittedly it had been too long since my last run through the Park and with a name like peanut (not even a capital P), I was always doomed for failure. But, if anything, I wouldn't be late. Raichu, despite being obviously way faster than me, was just a few feet behind. He had taken the time to sniff the roses that lined the path leading up to the outpost.

It didn't take long to see the ranger by the headquarters, patiently awaiting. With a quick glance at my watch I realised that we were three minutes or so early, and we didn't really have much to worry about being late. I gave the ranger a wave and called out to him.

"Yo!"

NBP2:

Buzz heard scuffling and looked up to see a trainer running down the path towards him. An orange mouse-like Pokémon with a lightning bolt shaped tail, was running just behind the trainer. Buzz stood up straight as the running man stopped beside him.

"Yo," Peanut said as he stopped nearby. Buzz gave a quick smile down at the Raichu, he always liked Electric types. He even had a brief stint as an electric gym leader.

"If you're ready to go, then we're going to be teleporting over to the beach. Admittedly we're teleporting either way but its polite to ask, you may experience some nausea. River here," Buzz said indicating to his left, and as if on queue a pink flash of light appeared and River Tam, the Xatu, teleported and hovered beside Buzz. "will take us all." River gave a quick nod and the same pink light enveloped all four of them quickly.

Buzz blinked as they appeared on the sandy shore that was to be the start of their journey. Buzz took a glance around, the Great Lakes spread out behind them, in front a long beach that Buzz assumed held some of the Pokémon that used to occupy the overcrowded lakes. Buzz smiled as a gentle breeze cause slow waves to wash over the sand. The skies appeared clear, but expeditions could last a long time in the park so who knew what could happen as time went on. This would be a new experience for him, not truly knowing what Pokémon were at this area of the park.

The water rippled and Buzz saw the one of the rarest water evolutionary lines swimming just at the surface of the water, its sea-horse like body glimmered through the water as it sent a spurt of water into the air. A difficult Pokémon to face with very few weakness Buzz would be interested to see if peanut would take a shot at capturing a majestic Kingdra for his first battle.

"Well, peanut, would you like to battle Kingdra?" Buzz said to the trainer beside him. "Also, why are you called peanut?"

After exchanging a few quick pleasantries, the ranger pointed to his Pokemon standing obediantly beside him. I recognised the wise silent Pokemon as a Xatu, a Pokemon that I used to own for quite a while until I decided that one of my friends who was hoping to tule the skies with her newfound Flying type Gym would really appreciate him. I really needed to check up on Xatu actually, it had been quite a while since I'd seen him last. Maybe he could predict the lottery numbers for me again. Although, best not to think about that too much less this Xatu reads my mind and squeals. Then we'd have to murder it.

River here," Buzz said, pointing to the Xatu standing beside him. I smiled at the totem pole bird and was ready to get going straight away. Xatu looked at me expectantly and I got the faintest feeling as if he could, and had read my mind, and was silently judging me. Yolo, I guess.

In the blink of an eye, Xatu disappeared from where he was standing, before reappearing just a foot or two away from Buzz. Teleporting was something very cool that I wish I could do. My old Porygon-Z used to be very good at it after months and months of agonizingly trying to teach him the move. But, he got it eventually.

We grabbed onto Xatu, and I felt a weird nauseating sensation for just a split second before my feet hit soft sand below. I forgot how horrible the feeling of teleporting was, but it was still very conveniant, I guess! No paying for ridiculously overpriced public transport!

Looking around it was pretty obvious that we were at the Sandy Beach. Even though I'd never been there before, all the warm sand and clear sea all around us made it pretty obvious that this was indeed the place where we intended to goo. All was good.

It wasn't even five seconds after landing on the Sandy Beach that buzz noticed the first Pokemon we would be encountering. A magestic blue seahorse-like Pokemon was swimming gracefully through the water. It paused for a moment, arched its back and spat a jet of water up into the sky to quite a tremendous height, before bowing gracefully and dunking its head in the water once more. I wasn't quite sure if the Kingdra was playing around, or if it was trying to cool down on such a hot day, or maybe it had noticed us just arriving and wanted to try and impress us so that one of us would attempt to capture it. I really hoped it was the latter.

"Well, peanut, would you like to battle Kingdra?" Buzz said to the trainer beside him. "Also, why are you called peanut?"

"Yeah, definitely interested in battling Kingdra. Anything from the Horsea family was something I was, and still am, very interested im trying to catch. I know that it could be a very tough battle, but I have a lot of fate in my Pokemon, so I'm sure we can handle it without too much trouble. Hopefully anyway!"

"Also, the peanut thing is a long story. It's mostly because my parents abandoned me as a child and I was adopted by a herd of wild Poochyena and Mightyena, but that's a story for another time. A long story of treachery, betrayal and the like so it'd probably just bore you."

"Annnnyway, let's try and see how this Kingdra likes battling Lapras," I said, tossing the pokeball out, which emmitted a bright beam of red light. A large blue Pokemon with a hard shell appeared before me and made a soft whistling sound before muttering his name.

"Fighting water with water shouldn't be too poorly in our favour, I think! Lapras, because we are such gentlemen, we will let the Kingdra have the first move. Your turn, Kingdra," I called, shouting over to the water and dragon typed Pokemon that appeared to just notice us now.

Buzz was impressed at this pronouncement from peanut, he was right it could be a very tough battle and this was always Buzz's favourite part of being a ranger. Watching how these curious battles would take place. It helped that he didn't have to come up with ways to battle the often creative ways that wild Pokémon.

"Also, the peanut thing is a long story. It's mostly because my parents abandoned me as a child and I was adopted by a herd of wild Poochyena and Mightyena, but that's a story for another time. A long story of treachery, betrayal and the like so it'd probably just bore you,” peanut continued. This took Buzz by surprise and he suddenly felt that he shouldn’t have tossed the question out so carelessly.

Peanut soon chose his first Pokémon to face up to Kingdra, his Lapras. The beam of red light fired from the Poké Ball and the blue creature erupted out onto the beach. Commonly known as the Transport Pokémon attributed to its commonplace use of Lapras as a sea Taxi for island habitation.

Buzz thought the matchup should be interesting and shouldn’t be overpowered for either Pokémon. Peanut had chosen to allow the Kingdra to have the first move in the battle, a brave strategy against such a powerful Pokémon. Buzz’s main concern would be how to observe the battle if it went underwater.

Kingdra began to display strange movements upon the surface of the water, Buzz smiled. A common strategy for Dragon types who use the curious dance to raise Speed and Attack damage. It weaved through the gentle waves at a quick pace till it was close to Lapras.

A green beam was fired from the sniper like nozzle of Kingdra. The beam sped over the water causing vast waves to crash beside it. The dragon breath smashed through Lapras with such a blistering pace it had no time to react. It didn’t look like it had done much damage but it was an early blow in a long battle. Kingdra flipped backwards acrobatically in the water and dove beneath the sea water.

Buzz recalled River Tam bag to her ball and settled in to see what peanut would do to this early aggressive ness.

Perhaps letting Kingdra do the first move was a bit of a mistake. I watched in a mixture of awe and worry as it performed a Dragon Dance and fired off a Dragon Breath at poor Lapras. Lapras was definitely quite a bulky Pokemon, but so was Kingdra and I was starting to get a nagging feeling that this battle was gonna be terribly long. Not the best way to start off the day.

"Actually, I don't really want to waste too much time on Kingdra. The whole day could fly by on just this one encounter. I will take a picture of it though," I said, whisking out my camera and dipping it below the water surface before snapping a quick picture of the Dragon type. "Hopefully there will be less intense battles!"

 

NBP3:
"Actually, I don't really want to waste too much time on Kingdra. The whole day could fly by on just this one encounter. I will take a picture of it though," peanut said after watching the Kingdra’s first foray into battle. Buzzer was surprised and a little disappointed. A battle against a Kingdra could have been an interesting sight to watch, though Buzzer understood the argument and accepted that it could mean the run could be spent on this one Pokémon.

Buzz watched him pull a camera from his bag and place it under water and saw the a glimmer of light from beneath the waves. Buzz looked at the shot in the camera display and was impressed that peanut had managed to get such clarity beneath the water. He knew that he would be able to sell the photo back at HQ for a reasonable amount of money. It was a great way to earn money back from your entrance fee.

Buzz waited to see if Kingdra would make a reappearance but it looked as if the flash had scared it off. It was possible that other Pokémon in the area would be more wary of approaching and it would make photographs that much harder to capture as the run progress

Buzz waited for peanut and then began to walk further up the sandy beach. It wasn’t long before he soon saw another disturbance in the waves. An elegant creature’s head bobbed above the waves. It had wing like features upon the side of its head and the tiniest of horns placed atop its head. The long blue scaled body glimmered in the sunlight’s reflections on the waves.

“Dragonair?” Buzz asked curiously wondering what the reaction to another powerful Pokémon would be.

After the camera flashed, I pulled it out of the water and shook some of the droplets off it. Thankfully it was waterproof. Well, that's what the man at the store said, so who really knows these things. It seems as if the camera had scared off the Kingdra as it didn't rise from out of the water within a few seconds.

We continue our way along the sandy beach until we bumped into our next encounter. This one was a large blue creature, and Dragon type just like Kingdra was. It had a long serpentine body with little wings on either side of its head, a product of evolution was what we were taught in school.

"Dragonair?" Buzzer asked expectantly. Unfortunately, I knew that battling a Dragon type of any kind would be a long battle, which really wasn't something I wanted at this stage of the day.

"I'll try and take a picture again. Hopefully the Dragonair won't want to stick around!"

NBP4:

"I'll try and take a picture again. Hopefully the Dragonair won't want to stick around!" peanut said as he looked over at the Dragonair and took another shot with the digital camera. Another great picture that would sell back at HQ, he wouldn’t get quite as much as he would for the Kingdra photo.

Buzz smiled as the Dragonair dived back beneath the crystal blue waves of the ocean. Buzz was liking the extension of the area from just The Great Lakes. The Lakes were over crowded so although there was a big variety of Pokémon it lead to quit dull runs. Buzz was very excited to go on his own run and investigate other things that might have changed.

Buzz set off after the Dragonair had drifted back beneath the waves. Buzz headed up the beach to the nearby pier. It seemed like a good place to look for new Pokémon. The warped wood reached out into water. An old fishing spot now partly taken back by the sea, as the support beams featured barnacles and corrosion.

Buzz could see two small yellow fins flitting in between the water-logged beams. A green body was visible just above the surface. It was an amazing double take moment for Buzz. There had been reports for years of rare Pokémon featuring alternate colourations to the standard.

The Dragonair took the moment to wriggle its serpentine body around and dive back beneath the water, sending up a spray of foamy ocean water just as the camera flashed. I glanced at the picture on the screen, a little disappointed in it. The Dragonair had managed to flick up water, blockin out a good proportion of its body from the camera. The picture would still definitely sell as Dragonair was quite the rare Pokemon, but I had a funny feeling that it would not sell for as much as the Kingdra picture.

The ocean was quite vast, and soon the Dragonair was lost among the brilliant blue of it as the sun shone across the surface. It was quite picturesque, but we could only stop and admire it for a few minutes, although it felt much shorter. After all, there were plenty more fish in the sea, I thought to myself, laughing internally. I noticed the ranger was staring at me oddly.

We decided it would be best to head over to the nearby pier. The old wooden planks creaked a little as we walked over towards the water's edge. I didn't notice anything unusual initially, just the many rounded rocks from years of coastal erosion and the few barnacles clustered together. Buzz pinted to two yellow shapes poking out of the water, which I soon realised were part of a Pokemon. The Pokemon in question was quite an unusually coloured Carvanha.

"A shiny Pokemon!" I gasped, looking at the Carvanha as it circled the wooden pier. It leapt out of the water, gnashing its fangs menacingly. "I'm very interested in battling and catching this as a collector of rare Pokemon. Besides, Sharpedo is pretty bitching."

It took only a few minutes for me to realise who was best to send. Electric types being naturally super effective on Water types lead me to believe that Raichu would be my best bet, provided he wasn't too rough and knocks the little fish out. That would be a real shame.

"Raichu, come on out and help me weaken this unusual Carvanha," I said, tossing his Pokeball. The Electric type rodent was out and smiling in no time, waving his large lightningbolt tail precariously. "Raichu, first things first. Let's try and knock this fish out of the water so we can use our Electric moves on it. I want you to use your tail and Knock Off Carvanha up into the air. When he's up in the air, take the opportunity to jump onto him and paralyse him with your Nuzzle attack!"

This wasn't a strategy that we had performed before together, but I had a lot of faith in Raichu as we had spent so much time together and knew each other quite well that we often battled in tune with the other. I saw Raichu's fur bristle as small weak jolts of electricity coursed through his body as he prepared to electrify and paralyse the opposing Water type on contact as soon as it had been knocke out of the water. That was, of course, dependent on whether we could even knock the fish out of the water. But I was a strong believer in Raichu.

"Go get 'em tiger!"

BP 1:
“A shiny Pokémon!” peanut said in response to the curious Carvanha. “I’m very interested in battling and catching this as a collector of rare Pokémon. Besides, Sharpedo is pretty bitching.”

Buzz didn’t have that much knowledge of the Pokémon’s use in battle, but if peanut wanted it, the battle would happen and he would get a chance to see what the curiously coloured Carvanha could do in a battle scenario. Buzz wondered what the strategy would be this time.

"Raichu, come on out and help me weaken this unusual Carvanha," peanut said, tossing his Pokeball. "Raichu, first things first. Let's try and knock this fish out of the water so we can use our Electric moves on it. I want you to use your tail and Knock Off Carvanha up into the air. When he's up in the air, take the opportunity to jump onto him and paralyse him with your Nuzzle attack!"

The rodent Pokémon cheered on by peanuts encouragement dived into the water with its lightning bolt tail trained on the green and yellow vicious looking piranha like Pokemon. The tail cut through the water and smashed into the Pokémon sending it out of the water. Raichu’s tail was drawn back quickly as it brushed the razor sharp skin of the Pokémon. Carvanha managed to redirect quickly and refocus on the electric type.

Buzz watched as it began to descend towards the now oncoming Raichu, jaws apart. Its speed was impressive as clamped down hard onto the Raichu. Raichu struggled as the razor sharp fangs surrounded it. Buzz could see a glimmer of the dark energy as it rippled around the Mouse Pokémon’s body weakening its defences. Fortunately for peanut, Raichu managed to release a small burst of electricity.

Carvanha immediately released its grip and dove back into the waves, whilst Raichu was able to leap its way back onto the wooden pier. I could see a few sparks running from the Savage Pokemon as it was within the water. It looked the electrical attack might be starting to take some effect on Carvanha.

This was still going to be a tough battle for Raichu and peanut, It looked as if Carvanha was going to give its all to truly test the trainer. Buzz felt a sudden shift in the breeze that was flowing over the beach. Carvanha had opened its mouth and a freezing wind was rushing towards both Raichu and themselves. Buzz sighed that he didn’t have his heavy jacket on but it would be interesting to see how peanut would counter the oncoming attack.

As soon as he heard my command, Raichu tucked in his ears and readied himself for the purge into the presumably cold water below. With a little jump, Raichu left the wooded planks below, before changing his body into a very elegant diving position. Raichu cut through the water's surface with elegance and poise. I'm sure he'd receive all tens in any swimming competition.

As I thought about it, I realised that I hadn't actually seen this particular Raichu behave in the water before. This Raichu, while very well behaved and just as efficient if not more efficient in battle, was not the original Raichu that I used to own: Caramel Chu Chu. The name was a play on words inspired by the delicious Ben and Jerry's Ice cream flavour Caramel Chew Chew and the ending "chu" or the species name Raichu, and despite how silly it was, it would often drive fear into the heart of all that came to face it. Yes, it was that good. And, of course naturally enough, it was an excellent swimmer and had mastered the art of water manipulation through the teaching of the Daycare exclusive move Surf. This Raichu, Raichu the second, was also well rehearsed in the ability to Surf, but I wasn't aware of how well it could dive. Raichu could not learn the move Dive as far as I knew, but if it could, this Raichu would be phenomenal at it.

As soon as Raichu reached the alternate coloured Carvanha, Raichu gave a dainty little pirouette in the water, flicking his tail upwards powerfully yet fluidly. The strength in the flimsy-looking tail was enough to knock the Carvanha shooting up out of the water, but I noticed that Raichu recoiled a little as his tail made contact with the opposing Pokemon's skin. It took me a moment to realise that it was in fact Carvanha's lesser known ability, Rough Skin, that caused Raichu the pain and ultimately weakened the Knock Off. It would be very much a good idea to avoid using physical contact moves against this Carvanha now that I was aware of its annoying ability.

No sooner than Carvanha had been knocked into the air that he wiggled his body forward and rammed into Raichu. His teeth bit down hard on the poor Electric type's furry body causing Raichu to wince in pain at the strength of the Carvanha's well-trained jaws. Raichu did not seem to take the Crunch attack well and I could sense a certain vulnerability that this Raichu had to biting attacks that would undoubtedly come back to... bite him in the ass. Literally and figuratively.

Raichu did however let out a blast of electricity towards Carvanha. It wasn't much, but paralysis only took a weak jolt of electricity to cripple a Pokemon entirely for a whole match. Raichu hoppedup onto the bank, shaking the water off as Carvanha dropped back down into the ocean. It didn't take long to notice the rustling of the sand nearby as the cool air blew over it. I couldn't help but shiver as it blew by me and I knew what was coming... the dreaded Icy wind. It wasn't exactly ridiculously powerful or anything, but it would be really cold. Raichu would definitely be slowed down and his lowered defense also wasn't very favourable. I had an idea, but it wasn't until I saw the seaweed below the water surface that it really came into motion.

"Alright, Raichu, we need to make a swift exit out of here. I want you to use Grass Knot to entangle the Carvanha with those weeds lining the bottom of the water. If we can manage to ensnare him then the paralysis could really take hold as the electricity is still surely cackling around his body. Then, I want you to propell yourself backwards from the hopefully-trapped Carvanha with a burst of not too powerful electricity and come back into your Pokeball."

The plan was to trap the Carvanha with a Grass Knot, allow the paralysis to kick in, and damage it with a weak enough electric type attack, while summoning Raichu back into his Pokeball. It was a lot to ask for, but I had Lapras' Pokeball in my hand, ready to toss as soon as Raichu was returned to his. That is, provided the Volt Switch worked out to plan.

BP 2:
Buzz watched as peanut and Raichu coordinated their next attack. It seemed that peanut wanted Raichu to manipulate the seaweed on the floor into a grass Knot. It was a very creative adaption of the technique that was one Raichu’s main defenses against the ground types.

Carvanha’s ice cold wind rushed over the electric rodent Pokémon. Though not an entirely powerful attack, it was a very useful attack as the icy cold air hardened the target’s muscles making it that much harder to move at speed. Raichu’s initial attack wasn’t particularly speed based so this wouldn’t affect it.

Buzz watched as the cold air dissipated, Raichu’s eyes shone green, as it perched on the pier. The tangled mass of green weeds beneath the surface began to weave and shift towards the piranha like Pokémon. The slimy vines wound themselves around the green body of the piranha like Pokémon constricting it.

Buzz could see the Carvanha struggling to break free of its natural chains, they began to tear against the sharp skin of the water dark type, it took much longer than it would have if it had full movement. By the time it struggled free of the weeds Raichu had dived charging its body as part of peanut’s next attack. Volt Switch a very useful move as it allows the trainer to both attack and switch Pokémon very quickly. Electricity surged around Raichu’s body as it struck the water type Pokémon, Raichu was engulfed in a blaze of red light as peanut’s Poké Ball activated.

Buzz looked over the pier to see how Carvanha was. It looked shaken, the attacks of Raichu had been very successful and had shocked the wild creature. The creatures fins shone white very briefly after it, Buzz wasn’t exactly sure what it meant but he knew peanut would have to be prepared for anything as he made his next move.

I braced myself as the Carvnha proceeded with the Icy Wind, but even then I couldn't help but shiver as the quite literal icy wind blew past us. Although the bitter cold gale only lasted a few seconds, I found myself shaking from head to foot with the cold even after it had faded. At least the sun was out and beaming high up in the sky. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long for me and my Pokemon to heat up. In the mean-time, the ice now slowing down Raichu's reflexes and halting his muscles probably wouldn't work too much in our favour.

Raichu's eyes turned an emerald colour for a split second as he used whatever infinite-small amount of psychic powers he had to try and control the seaweed undergrowth beneath the salt water that Carvanha was hiding in. I wasn't sure whether it would work initially, but it didn't take all that long for the slimey green seaweed to slither up from the seafloor and wrap itself around the startled Carvanha. I couldn't help but feel a little amused as the struggling Carvanha gnashed his teeth and flailed from side to side in every effort to escape from his temporary trappings. Raichu took the time to jolt forward, despite the now-lowered speed of his, and fire a relatively weak jolt of electricity at the Carvanha. He used the momentum to escape back to his pokeball while the Carvanha still struggled entagled in the seaweed.

"Alright, Lapras, come back out!" I commanded, as the light of the Pokeball flashed and the Transport Pokemon rematerialised before us. He was in more or less top shape, despite the rather short battle with the fearsome Kingdra earlier. I noticed that the Carvanha winced a little as the paralysis was still travelling through his body. It wouldn't hurt to try and further that paralysis, and Lapras had just the moves for it.

"Alright, Lapras. I want you to throw the full weight of your body at the Carvanha, but be careful of the Rough Skin! Then try and hit him with your own Hidden Power!" Lapras nodded in agreement to those commands. Lapras weighed quite a bit, but he wasn't all that strong, so I didn't think that the Body Slam would do too much damage. The main aim with Body Slam was to try and ensure that the paralysis stuck, even if poor Lapras had to take some damage in the process. Next up was Hidden Power. Lapras had an Electric type Hidden Power so it would do Super Effective damage. It was no Thunderbolt, but it should still knock the Carvanha into a very manageable amount of health. Then, after Hidden Power had happened, I was going to toss one of the few remaining Park Balls that I had. I took it out, and aimed at the still-flailing Carvanha. As soon as Lapras fired off the attacks, I was going to launch the ball, and hopefully it would be a successful capture!

NBP 5:
Once Raichu had returned to its Poké Ball, Buzz watched as Peanut released Lapras into the water. It hadn’t taken much damage in the short exchange with Kingdra so it was in fine shape to get Carvanha into capturable health. “Alright, Lapras. I want you to throw the full weight of your body at the Carvanha but be careful of the Rough Skin! then try and hit him with your own Hidden Power!” Peanut instructed to the Transport Pokémon as it swam on the surface.

It was slightly careless to allow contact moves against the Rough Skin ability but he had seen worse treatment of Pokémon so it didn’t concern him much. Buzz also spotted peanut pulling out a Park Ball getting ready to toss it. It seemed logical, he felt sure that Carvanha would be a reasonable chance of capture after the attack, but he wondered what state Lapras would be in. Depending on Carvanha’s retaliation, both Raichu and Lapras could have sustained some heavy damage early on into the run.

Buzz wasn’t sure of the attack method, given how Lapras had acted so far. Although it hadn’t had much time out, it seemed shy and this meant it was unlikely to like contact moves especially full body contact moves. Lapras indeed didn’t seem willing to leap from the water to initiate the attack instead it moved onto the second part of the command and suddenly small light blue balls of energy formed around the Pokémon and were sent towards the Carvanha.

Carvanha who had just broken free of the vine trapping tried to dodge but was unsuccessful as a spark of electricity prevented its movements, it looked as if despite the body slam not happening the paralysis had taken hold and the Hidden Power attack was able to hit full on and cause a decent amount of damage.

Before Peanut could throw the Park Ball, Buzz saw the electricity building up around Carvanha and suddenly it shot at Lapras and released a jolt as it approached before immediately retreated in the exact way that Raichu had done previously to enable Lapras to enter battle. Buzz now realised what the glowing eyes of Carvanha meant. It had used Mimic to temporarily learn how to use Volt Switch. He was impressed, but it was clear that pure types of Water types weren’t meant to have that much electricity running through their bodies as it winced.

Lapras too was hit hard by the shock of the attack, but fortunately it still seemed relatively healthy and Buzz assumed it would be ok for the foreseeable future.

Peanut threw the Park Ball and it connected with the Piranha Pokémon and it was engulfed in the light of the capture mechanism and the ball and Pokémon sunk to the bottom of the water. Buzz waited eagerly to see if Carvanha would reappear, but it did not. The capture was successful. River, if you wouldn’t mind? Buzz thought, tapping the Poké Ball on his belt. The Mystic Pokémon, who had appeared in a flash beside the ranger and trainer, obliged and suddenly the Park ball was floating telekinetically into Buzz’s hands. He then slotted the ball into his backpack and was ready to set off again.

“Well there you go, your first capture of the day!” Buzz said happily to his trainer. “Now we just have to figure out where to go next!” Buzz set off away from the pier back onto the sandy shore line. He walked a little way before he felt a psychic tug from River, he looked out into the water. He saw the jagged aqua blue fin first, then the yellow cross. He chuckled, the curiosity of nature apparent. “I’m assuming, since you just caught the Carvanha, you don’t want to try battling Sharpedo?” He asked Peanut.

Lapras didn't seem to want to do the Body Slam attack, which was really fair enough considering that Carvanha's Rough Skin would be quite the damage dealing side affect. But it turned out alright as Lapras still used the Hidden Power of the Electric variety to hit the Carvanha. What's more was the fish seemed to be paralysed for definite now as it kept twitching ever so slightly. Carvanha retaliated with a cleverly copied Volt Switch, allowing it to deal a good deal of damage and back up away from Lapras. But I still seized the opportunity and tossed the ball, which sucked up the Carvanha and dinged successfully almost immediately.

“Well there you go, your first capture of the day!” Buzz exclaimed. "Now we just have to figure out where to go next!” he added, pocketing Carvanha's ball and starting up the speed boat. Just a few moments later and Xatu alerted us to a large fin poking out of the water. A Sharpedo! Those things could be very dangerous so we'd have to thread carefully.

"Let's try and outpace it withthe speedboat. If that doesn't work I could buy a Pokedoll and hopefully the Sharpedo will take the bait. I have 13,800 smackaroo ies if I need to buy one!"

Peanut had gotten into a speed boat that was moored to pier. Buzz was walking on the beach, shook his head and River instantly teleported them delicately into the boat at the controls. "Let's try and outpace it with the speedboat. If that doesn't work I could buy a Pokedoll and hopefully the Sharpedo will take the bait. I have 13,800 smackaroonies if I need to buy one!" Peanut said in response to the Sharpedo that was swimming not far from the boat.

Buzz flipped up the gears and revved the boats engine to high, trying to get away from the shark-like evolution of Carvanha, but the sudden burst of noise attracted its attention. Buzz pulled one of the clefairy shaped dolls from the backpack and threw at the ever approaching Sharpedo. The boat continued at high speed away, Buzz glanced back at the Sharpedo to see it using its razor sharp teeth to tear the doll to fluff. Buzz was glad they had managed to escape, or else that would be the boat.

Buzz smiled, “I guess we’re exploring the open water then!” He looked out over the waves. It wasn’t long before Buzz spotted the next Pokémon, unfortunately in his opinion it wasn’t a particularly powerful Pokémon. It wasn’t Buzz’s run though so he knew not to judge the trainer’s choices. It was entirely feasible for this to be a desirable Pokémon for Peanut.

Buzz pointed it out the pink love heart shaped Pokémon to Peanut, with a faint chuckle through his mind. Known as the Rendezvous Pokémon, it is said that if found with your partner it gives you good luck in love.

Buzz agreeing with me revved up the speedboat's engine. But before we could get going, the Sharpedo spotted us and made a beeline straight for us after hearing the noises of the engine presumably. I eagerly handed Buzz the money and watched a little in awe but mostly horrified as the Sharpedo tore up the doll while we made our escape.

“I guess we’re exploring the open water then!” Buzz announced just moments before spotting a little heart shaped Pokemon. A Luvdisc would be good to woe the women, but I had devillishly good looks so that wasn't necessary.

"Let's try and outpace this thing. I'll buy a Pokedoll if we can't manage to flee its love."

"Let's try and outpace this thing. I'll buy a Pokedoll if we can't manage to flee its love," Peanut said. Buzz nodded, took a brief look to the horizon and spotted the outline of palm trees out far out in the ocean. Buzz thought this might be an interesting place to have a wander around.

“How about we head over there?” Buzz asked as he made a hard turn with the boat, leaving the Luvdisc behind in a spray of ocean water. The speed boat bobbed atop the waves of the ocean. The air began to grow colder as the wind picked up over the sea, the cool salt water whipped against the side of the boat.

Buzz had to repeatedly wipe his face from the constant spray obstructing his vision. He swerved quickly to avoid a shoal of Remoraid swimming very close to the surface. “Woah, well want to try battle one of those Remoraid?”

Buzz nodded after hearing what I said and made a sharp turn with the boat. The little pink heart-shaped Poemon looked up at us sadly as it realised that we were now abandoning it and it would have to spend another few weeks isolated from human kind. It wouldn't be able to spread any love around, which was such a shame. Buzz pointed to what looked like the tips of palm trees just out in the horizon. I figured that there must be some kind of island sitting out there that probably hadn't been discovered in quite some time. Maybe there'd be some rare Pokemon or maybe even some hidden treasure out there. Maaaybe.

“How about we head over there?” Buzz asked, indicating the island and I nodded in agreement. It was better than just waiting around in the middle of the ocean for Pokemon to appear. As the speedboat lunged forward, spraying up some icy cold water, we made our way towards the presumed-island. But, we were stopped rather suddenly as a shoal of little grey creatures appeared out of nowhere from below the water surface.

“Woah, well want to try battle one of those Remoraid?” Buzz asked.

I grinned a little. I was literally halfway through writing a dissertation on the importance of Remoraid in aquatic ecosystems. And, gues what? Remoraid were important and stuff. So I wanted one of those little creatures. I'd like all of them really, but one would suffice.

"Let's send Raichu out again!" I said, brandishing his Pokeball. "Raichu, when you're ready, I want you to try and isolate on of the Remoraid from the shoal. I think we can achieve this by trying to seduce on lucky female Remoraid with a combination of your Charm, Play Nice and maybe even a bit of kinky Tail Slap. Maybe. Anyway, let's try and grab one of their attention while scattering away the rest!"
