    @Synthesis;

    Jay didn't say anything when glancing at this Legendary creature. He must have figured that there was no need for any words, since Latias seemed to be very playful. He pulled the camera he had along with him out of his bag, and snapped a shot of this creature. Latias saw the flash, and it got spooked by it, flying off rather quickly actually. Kinda funny considering Legendary Pokemon were suppose to be these all powerful, and tough beings, but this one ran off from a camera flash. I laughed it off, and watched as Jay swapped out his Murkrow Voice Disc, for what I soon found out to be his Sigilyph Voice Disc. That was certainly a unique Pokemon he was looking for now, in fact it was one of the ones I wouldn't mind if Eric found, so that I could use it at times. We took off again, in hopes that Jay would have better with luck this Voice Disc.

    There hadn't been anything else that I could see over here, and so I decided that now we would check out the other side of Meteor Valley for sure. Being on a specific side didn't make a difference of which Pokemon might be here, unlike in some other places such as Mount Oktori, where you're more likely to find Fighting-types inside the cave, and Ice-types on the outside. Here everything seemed to kind of just intertwine together. I lead us back up the hill, and along the way I thought I saw a faint trace of some sort of energy or something, but I couldn't quite make out what it was just yet. I got us back to the top of there, and now I could see what this was.

    It kind of looked like this creature was just a black ball. Nothing more than a black ball. But the energy I had ended up seeing was the purple glow of smog that surrounds its body. This thing had incredibly large eyes, as well as a mouth with a pair of fangs. This was one of the most bland looking Pokemon I have ever come across, because there just wasn't much to its looks at all. However, looks or not, once it evolved into its final form this thing was certainly a powerhouse to be reckoned with. Of course though, Jay already owned the final form of this, and he in fact had it with him right now. It still didn't mean that he might not want it though.

    As soon as I clicked down on the button intended for capturing a picture, the Latias gave off a little yelp. The flash seemed to momentarily stun her before she quickly spun around and shot off into the distance. I found it quite alarming seeing how afraid and timid the Latias was reacting around the flashing camera and I hoped this one wasn't scared off. I know Ledgendary pokemon in the National Park usually don't hang around for long after a picture was taken, but I hope this was nothing more than them just being shy. I'd hate to think that the Rangers, trainers or even other wild Pokemon were actually intimidating or hurting Ledgendary Pokemon to try and control them. It was such a shame considering how few of these rare Ledgendary pokemon there are and how there are usually just one of each of these endangered species.

    I tried to let these thoughts slide as we made our way onwards and up the large hill because it was probably a good idea to keep our eyes pealed for any Pokemon - in particular Sigilyph. They were rare enough as it was and if one happened to appear, well I sure as hell would like to spot it and battle it and hopefully try and befriend it, before attempting a capture. If we had managed to attract one thanks to the Voice Disk I would be so annoyed if it managed to escape us. They really were one of those odd quirky Pokemon that you never really notice or see in battles, contests or just about anywhere, yet they were still very good. Well, they sure seemed very good from what i could tell.

    As we kept up the strong strides up the hill, I suddenly felt something unusual. It started off as an unnerving chill running down my spine, but then it developed into something much stronger. As I gave an involuntary shiver I felt my stomach give a little churn and my ribs seemed to be pressing into myself tightly. The feeling passed suddenly, but before Gary had noticed, I was back to normal and turned to look up to see where we were going. I was got a little off gaurd, but not by the plain tall grass that shot off as fields into the distance, or the sloping hills, but by the puffing ball of gas staring at me with large aghast-looking eyes.

    "I know you have a Gengar, but does this Gastly capture your interest?"

    Ah, I knew it looked familiar, but it took me a few seconds to register what this Pokemon was. yeah, I guess I could try and battle this gastly. I mean, hey, they were pretty badass, both evolved and unevolved. I nodded before replying to gary.

    "Yeah, I'd like to battle this Gastly," I said calmly. "I hope Gengar is up for the job. Surely he has some advantage being more evolved than this Gastly, but I'm not going to under-estimate this Ghost type. I know that they can be very tricky and unexpecting."

    Within a flash of red, my fearsome purple Ghost type took the stage. I thought I'd try something new for a change.

    "How about we smack Gastly with a powerful Payback!"

    Payback itself was quite an unusual move. It was one of those odd moves that had very situational effects, but when these unusual circumstances occured, the move could be very effective. It wasn't exactly usually my cup of tea to risk using a move that wasn't very accurate in how it worked and it was entirely situational, but at least it always did some damage. The move involved the Pokemon using it to store up some inner energy, something that can't really be explained but you would know what it is if you've ever seen a Pokemon try and store energy. The purpose of this is so that the user can absorb any damage the foe has done to the user, and reflect it back in a very sinister and calculating way. This attack also happened to be a Dark type move and it would effectively be deemed as Super Effective against the Ghost typed gastly and it would do quite a bit of damage - well that's what I hoped anyway.

    "Wait," I called out to Gengar as he was starting to store energy. I say his crinkled face ease up a little bit and he looked at me through the corner of his eye with a puzzled look. "I'm not sure how successful this move will be, so I want you to go all out and try your best with it." I know it sounded very cheesy, but rest assured, I was going somewhere with this. "It might be a little much to ask, but try and infuse the Payback with a fiery element if you know what I mean," I added with a sly wink.

    This fiery element I spoke of was code between the two of us that we had used many times in battles before. It meant I was asking him to use a Will o wisp but because the opponent didn't know exactly what I meant, it tilted the favour in our direction, if only a little bit. Hopefully Gastly wouldn't pick up on this because it might recognise the description as it tended to learn this very move being in the same family line as Gengar.

    Will o wisp was a very quirky and odd move that had both its merits and its disadvantages. On the plus side it could inflict the opponent with a burn status condition which was very handy for a number of reasons. In one way it would do consistent damage to the opponent as the battle wore on, making the Pokemon weaker and thus easier to attempt to capture. That wasn't the only way it even affected the capture rate of the Pokemon. When a Pokemon is inflicted with a status condition - be it freeze, sleep, burn, poison, paralysis or any number of other possible status conditions that a Pokemon can actually get, the Pokemon tends to struggle less and they can find it harder to resist against the Pokeball that is being used against it. That, or perhaps the Pokemon actually accepts that your Pokemon is more powerful and experienced than them and feels a pang of jealousy and admiration so they change their mind on how they feel about being caught by the trainer and actually want to join the trainer's team of Pokemon so that they can become better just like the trainer's Pokemon that they have trained up over the years.

    Howver, that wasn't the end of it when it came to the advantages associated with the move Will o Wisp and the burn status condition. Burn also had a not-so-wekk-known secondary effect of halving the Pokemon that is burnt's attack points meaning my Pokemon could take even more hits from this opponent, provided they were Physically-based moves of course. Now, that seems like a lot of advantages that this move has and surely it must be completely broken, right? Wrong. This move had terrible distribution, and despite being a TM in some countries, it was only available on Fire types, Ghost types and a few other random Pokemon that could learn it for some reason. Even the very diverse Normal type pokemon couldn't even receive this move, which really shows how limited its access is.

    But, you know, I'm not actually too worried about this at all. Some of the top researchers around the world are doing experiements on each and every move that there is, trying to create more Technical Machines and expand Breeding Methods. I've heard that they often use Smeargle to Sketch important moves that they were testing at the time. Smeargle have such a diverse, unlimited movepool that it really was the best candidate for the job, and hell, it was great for passing these moves onto other Pokemon and giving Pokemon moves they could normally never learn otherwise. An example of this is how Eevee could only have Curse, Wish or Yawn before Smeargle was found to be in the Ground or Field egg group. By giving a Male Smeargle Yawn, Curse and Wish, it can mate with a female Eevee so that the offspring will have these moves. Fascinating stuff really.

    "Yeah, I'd like to battle this Gastly. I hope Gengar is up for the job. Surely he has some advantage being more evolved than this Gastly, but I'm not going to under-estimate this Ghost type. I know that they can be very tricky and unexpecting," Jay said after glancing at this Gastly. I wasn't too shocked that he didn't pass up on this thing, despite having a Gengar. Couldn't blame him really, because even if he didn't end up wanting to keep this thing for himself, Gastly was excellent trade bait for other rare, or powerful Pokemon. Using Gengar here too was certainly a smart idea, since it would match up perfectly against its foe here.

    "How about we smack Gastly with a powerful Payback!" Jay commanded. That was certainly different indeed, since you normally didn't see Physical attacks coming from this thing. But hey though mixing things up, and do the unexpected could easily shift the tide of a battle in either direction. It was gonna be interesting to see this be pulled off, but as it would happen this wasn't all that was going to be told of it to do.

    "Wait, I'm not sure how successful this move will be, so I want you to go all out and try your best with it. It might be a little much to ask, but try and infuse the Payback with a fiery element if you know what I mean," Jay added on. Well, if I had to guess here I would assume by fiery element, he meant to add Will-o-Wisp to that attack, since Gengar didn't know Fire Punch, and its Hidden Power wasn't Fire. Jay was just adding the bonus command in a subtle way, in the hopes that Gastly wouldn't know what was coming.

    Payback was an interesting move indeed. Like it's name suggested it would return damage to the foe if they attack them prior to the move this turn. Now this attack would deal damage regardless of anything as long as the move hit, but if the user was damaged then attack would be twice as powerful. Gengar started to gather, and store a dark energy within itself, that faintly showed itself on the outside, however mixed into that was a few bluish-white flames. That was because Will-o-Wisp was added to the equation, which would burn the foe once it hit them. Gengar gathered in all of its energy, and shifted it all into its right hand, with some into its left hand. It then threw a powerful punch using the right one, to knock Gastly back a few feet, even though it had tried to get out of the way. Before anything else could happen though, Gengar attack with the left fist, which was red in color. When this one hit, you could instantly see flames shoot up from the Ghost-type. Gengar put the force of Will-o-Wisp into one of its punches, and it worked.

    While the two creatures will still close together, Gastly quickly shot out its tongue, and to my disgust, licked its foe. It was, ironically enough, using Lick. A rather weak Ghost-type move, with a chance of paralyzing the foe. I guess they could be paralyzed by the sheer shockingness of actually being licked by your opponent. It was very freaky to say the least. Thankfully for Gengar, even though it was clearly just mistreated right there, it didn't appear to be paralyzed. Though that wasn't all the little Ghost-type had in store for the final evolution of itself. It charged up a quick aura, and fired out a powerful wave of electricity. This time it was using Thunderbolt, a powerful Electric-type move, that would, from what I could gather, feel like being electrocuted. Gengar was a bit more prepared this time around though, and it managed to jump up into the air avoiding half of the attack, though its legs were still clipped. Luckily for it though it didn't happen to get paralyzed again, and now the burn did some damage to Gastly. Still though, Jay was using Gengar so he knew how tricky a Gastly could be.

    @Ebail ;

    OOC: Male, I guess

    Gengar's arms withdrew closer to his body and his fingers started to fidget maniacally. I knew that he was preparing his Payback attack as a dark hue began to envelop his hands and also seemed to be coming right from inside of Gengar. His eyes contorted into little slits as he readied the standard Payback. I gave a flick of my wrist at my side, as discreetly as I could. I saw one eye shoot open and follow my swift motion, and I was positive he understood my message and knew what to do. That little flick of the wrist was to signal for Gengar to use his Will o wisp attack, but to be as sly and slick about it as he could possibly be. I saw a spark ignite, and all I had to do know was hope that it would catch - that, and hope that the Gastly would not notice it. Hopefully Gengar could use the dark matter from the attack to carry the flames silently and help to spread them as it was a type of unknown gas, or so it seemed anyway.

    Suddenly, Gengar's whole balance pivoted to that of its right hand as all of the power stored up in order for this Payback to be successful was sent to his right hand. With another quick twist of the body, he shot forward, right hand outstretched and creating a very comical pose of a "falcon punch". I watched as Gengar's right-hand fist sailed through the air at very fast before making contact with the Gastly. Despite being a Ghost type, the attack did not go right through the Gastly, instead it smacked into the black circular center of it. I couldn't help but wonder why this happened - I'm sure there were several possibilities of course. I have definitely seen certain attacks go right through Ghost type Pokemon, not affecting their mass or matter in the slightest bit. For the most part, those moves tended to be physical moves of the Type Normal or Fighting, but that wasn't always the case.

    In some moves, the Pokemon's fist in the case of the elemental punches would go right through the Ghost type and leave behind some of the charged electric, fiery or ice-based power that had been stored up, which in turn would then the brunt of the damage to the Ghost type Pokemon. Perhaps it actually hit the Gastly dead on as though it was a solid wall or something similar was because it was used by another Ghost type Pokemon. Because Gengr would be familiar with how his own body works - which is easily distinguished if you ever look at him make his body become a gaseous state at times or alternatively a solid state. This can be very handy for Ghost type Pokemon to abuse to scare people and Pokemon all around the world and also to help maintain that scary stereotype they've had surrounding them for centuries. How they can easily slide through walls of cement and re-appear at the other side as though they had literally walked through thin air. Whatever way you put it, it was odd.

    The flames vere definitely visible as blue tips engulfed the Gastly momentarily. I knew there was quite a good chance that these flames would catch because if you get flames sent on to you, be you Ghost type or not, you will be almost gauranteed to catch on fire. The blueish-white flames licked the skin of the Gastly but then disappeared. However, I was lucky in how the Gastly had become burnt despite there being no visible signs any longer. It seemed to glow a faint red colour every few moments, which was a good way to tell whether it had become burnt and aquired the Burn status ailment or not.

    Gastly wasn't going to take this attack lying down. Oh no! Gastly's mouth opened wide and a bulbuos red tongue shot out. The tongue proved to be a trick of the eye and actually stretched on far more than one would think was possible for a tongue to go. The slimey red muscle slammed into Gengar's face, spreading saliva and other foul-smelling juices all over Gengar's face. It felt as though Gastly had done the attack on me as it was such a cringe-worthy move to even watch, let alone take. Luckily I have never experienced a Pokemon, or a human for that matter, doing this on me, but I'm sure the effect would be simply startling. However, luckily for me, Gengar was made from tougher stuff than that. Lick carried the surprisingly high chance of paralysing the opponent because of the poisons secreted by the tongue during this attack, but also it was helped by how much it startled the opponent and tended to catch them off gaurd. Gengar seemed immune to these poisons and didn't really seem all too fazed about it.

    Perhaps he wasn't too bothered about it because of the fact that he has this move in his movepool from when he was a Gastly a very long time ago. I didn't even own this Gengar before he was a fully evolved Gengar, and I know I had never commanded him to use the Ghost type move Lick, but perhaps he had to use it to fend for himself in the wild, or maybe he used it when he was with the first trainer who had captured this Gastly. Even to this day, I'm not sure how he captured him but I was willing to trade my prized Rotom over to the trainer for this Gengar because I knew how amazing it could really be.

    Gastly didn't end it there, and he managed to smack Gengar with a weak Thunderbolt, which didn't even bother Gengar too much. He didn't even flinch as the weak bolt of electricity swallowed him whole momentarily.

    "Excellent job so far, Gengar. Use a Hex on this Gastly!"

    Hex was actually quite a good move to use in this situation. As Gastly was a Ghost type, this Ghost type move would be Super Efective on it, Gengar's would also be powered up because of the same type attack bonus associated with Pokemon using a move of their own typing and also the fact that this movie doubles in power when the opponent has a status conditions. This move could really do quite a devestating amount, but hopefully my accomplished prized Gengar would be able to do it, but definitely I hope he wouldn't knock it out with the huge power of this move.

    Suddenly, I had another idea. Seeing how well that the Gastly had handeled the attack, I knew it would be fine against taking a simple Hex, unless I got a very unlucky critical hit or something. I think I wanted to just go for the capture now and see if we could move on with this run. If we could catch this, we'd have two very good Pokemon as it is and even if we couldn't find anything else I wanted to battle and attempt to catch, I'd still be quite happy.

    "Okay, Gengar. I want you to use a Shadow Punch as well but don't go too roughly. I know your attack stat isn't as high as your Special attack stat so I can't imagine this doing a huge amount, but still. I'm going to attempt to capture this Gastly after you do Shadow Punch," I finished, withdrawing a regular Park Ball. It seemed like I always used Park Balls, but oh well.

    As Gengar's arm whipped back and he began this Ghost type move, I hurled the ball at the Gastly. Shadow ball was a very quick move so I had no doubt that it would hit the Gastly before the Park Ball could even.

    @Synthesis;

    Watching a Gengar battle a Gastly was certainly something to see. Since it was the fully evolved form a Gastly, Gengar could easily tell anything that the Gastly was going to throw at it, and plan accordingly. It certainly did give it a distinct advantage, but that didn't mean everything, since Gastly could easily throw any sort of trick at its opponent. Whether you knew it was coming or not, it could still be pretty troublesome to deal with.

    "Excellent job so far, Gengar. Use a Hex on this Gastly!" Jay commanded. He really wasn't playing around, he intended to try to make this as quick as he possibly could it seemed. Couldn't say that I really blamed him. It was best to try to end things, before they got out of hand really. It was like the same thing with the Abra he battled before too. He just had to hope this would work out like he planned.

    "Okay, Gengar. I want you to use a Shadow Punch as well but don't go too roughly. I know your attack stat isn't as high as your Special attack stat so I can't imagine this doing a huge amount, but still. I'm going to attempt to capture this Gastly after you do Shadow Punch," Jay added on, before Gengar could act, as he pulled out a regular Park Ball. If this wasn't proof that he wanted to finish this battle now then nothing was.

    Hex was a great choice here. Not only was it a Ghost-type move, therefor added both STAB, and a super effective boost onto the damage dealt. That wasn't all though, because when Hex hit a Pokemon that was inflicted with a major status, such as freeze, sleep, or burn, this attack would actually double in strength, making it incredibly powerful. Fortunately for Jay, and so likewise unfortunately for Gastly, it had a burn right now, so this attack would in fact be twice as strong. This wasn't going to be pretty, I was sure of that much.

    Hex was a curse-like attack. Basically the user would send energy into the foes body, and it would attack them from the inside, until they were able to expel the energy. The reason the damage was doubled was because when a Pokemon was feeling the effects of a status, was because that status made it harder to shake off the damage, since it was already causing harm to them. It was like being sick with a cold, and then getting a stomach bug. Hard to shake off one sickness, because of the other, or so I could imagine. Gengar released the attack into Gastly, and while it was struggling to withstand the damage, Gengar charged over, and quickly struck its foe with a punch, knocking the smaller Ghost-type into the ground. Shadow Punch was a move that couldn't miss, because it struck along from the shadows. It wasn't exactly the most powerful of moves, but it was enough to get the job done.

    Jay took this as his opportunity, and thus threw the Park Ball as Gastly. It sucked the little creature in, but surprisingly it still had fight left in that tiny body. So much fight apparently, that it was actually able to break free from the ball, much to the shock of everyone around.

    Breaking free wasn't all it did though, no, it also managed to get off another attack. This was an attack that used an aura created by dark thoughts, better known as Dark Pulse. It fired off the attack, like it was a large field of energy, which struck the Gengar, though at less than full power due to Gastly being rather weak. It wasn't all that safe at this point though, since the burn it had on its body managed to kick in once more and sap away some more health. It looked really weak now, and I wasn't even sure if it could withstand another burn turn or not.

    To my utmost surprise, the Gastly popped right out of the Park Ball almost immediately. It sure took a beating from the last few attacks, and it was clearly showing signs of being quite weak indeed, but it apparently had some fight left in it. It was spunky and who doesn't like spunky Pokemon. People... not so much. Well, I decided that there really wasn't anything more that Gengar to it, without risking knocking it out, and that was something I definitely didn't want to leave to chance.

    "Alright, Gengar. That was a close one, but don't worry. I need you to try and hang on for a little bit more, perhaps try and evade some attacks if Gastly tries to make any. I'm going to try and go for the capture again. Hopefully, we can nab this Gastly and keep on going."

    I tossed the Park Ball again, firing it blindly, knowing it was only in the rough area that Gastly was in.

    @Synthesis; OOC: You got lucky, otherwise burn would have KOed

    IC: Jay had to know this was essentially his last chance to capture Gastly, because if it managed to break out of its ball again, and didn't end up using Pain Split, then the burn it had would end up finishing it off, and making it uncapturable. What a waste it would be to spend time battling a Pokemon all out, only to have it be unable to be caught, due to a technicality you caused. I think the only thing worse would be if Gastly used Curse, or Explosion to knock itself out. I was hopeful though that none of those three things came to this.

    "Alright, Gengar. That was a close one, but don't worry. I need you to try and hang on for a little bit more, perhaps try and evade some attacks if Gastly tries to make any. I'm going to try and go for the capture again. Hopefully, we can nab this Gastly and keep on going," Jay said. The Park Ball he threw though was his last one, and I didn't know if he wanted to attempt to use a Super Ball now instead or not, or even a Hyper Ball, but there was a chance he did just want to use the Park Ball once more, so I quickly got over to it, and kicked it back to him. He then took said ball, and threw it at Gastly, hoping to have some better luck this time. It was once again sucked into the ball, and despite being so weak, it still put up a fight, trying to break out, but ultimately its fate was sealed.

    "That was rather lucky, Jay. I doubt this thing would have even been able to be caught if it broke free there," I said, as I walked over, and picked up Gastly's Pokeball. It was true though, that was basically a last ditch effort, it was just a good thing it all worked out. "So, what would you like to do now? I remember you saying you had thoughts about possibly leaving after capturing Gastly, is this true? Or do you wish to keep going, and seeing what else might show up? Whenever you make your decision let me know, and we can move on."
