I had finally got a new run. It had been at least a few weeks since I had took my last client through the National Park, most people tended to sign up during shifts other than mine. As such I often missed most opportunity. But a couple days ago I was in the office completing some other work when then report passed by my desk. I took no time in grabbing the run for myself.

The client wanted the run soon as possible so I was rushing to verify all his information and finish filling out all the required paperwork. The go ahead had came earlier today and I had already notified the man to meet me at the gates to Mt Deckbi.

I snapped on my pack over my ranger gear and grabbed the Pokeballs containing my Pokemon. Deckbi contained mostly Fire, Rock, and Ground types, so I picked Swampert, Infernape, and Sceptile to take along. I hadn’t taken Sceptile anywhere in a while so it would be good for him.

I stepped onto the transportation tiles and was at the steel wrought fates of Deckbi instantly. Teleportation was a very handy thing to use; I usually used my Alakazam but I had left him at home this time.

A tall althletic male was jogging in place outside the gate. I quick look at his blond hair and blue eyes told me that this was the person I was looking for. I walked up and introduced myself.

“Hey, I’m Garth Tyrannius and I’ll be your ranger for this run. Ready to get started?”

OOC: I exchanged the Torkoal Disc for a Gligar one, btw.

Of course it had to be sunny the day I decided to go to Mt. Deckbi for the first time I had been back at the National Park. I had decided to take some time off from Pokemon life and visit a lovely small island. I spent only a few months there, but when I came back I wa more refreshed than ever. Unfortunately I hadn't kept all my Pokemon with me and I was only left with a view. I decided to bring two of my most trust-worthy Pokemon in with me on this fine day; Gengar and Electivire.

The time I spent at the island had really allowed me to work on getting a tan, and also just staying fit as a whole. Perhaps that's why as soon as I saw the steep ascent up the mountain to the entrance to Mt. Deckbi, I instinctively began to jog. It wasn't a long journey, but the sharp ascent and the intense heat of the sun scorching down from above left me in a sweat - and the run hadn't even started yet!

No sooner was I at the top, than a man called out to me. This man looked quite cheerful, although I could've sworn he materialised out of thin air. When I jogged past that spot I could've sworn no one else was there. Maybe the midday heat was already starting to get to me?

"Hey, I'm Garth Tyrranius," he said in a friendly tone, "and I'll be your Ranger for this run. Ready to get started?"

I nodded before saying "just about. Let me spray some of this repellent to keep those pesky Rock Types at bay," I finished, spraying the sweet-smelling can around us. "And, I'll just use this Pokeplayer and Voice Disc to see if we can attract a Gligar. I really do like Gligar and have wanted one for a while!"

I took out the fancy recording machine, inserted the disc and afte3r just a quick whirring sound, the familiar cry of Gligar emerged. "Hopefully we can find one," I said, more to myself than anyone else.

“Just about,” the man replied, reaching into his bag to remove a couple items. “Let me spray some of this repellent to keep those pesky Rock types at bay.” Jay held up a muted earth color aerisol can and proceeded to spray the liquid on the both of us. Rock types hated the smell of the concoction and would stay away from us until the smell wore off. “And I’ll just use this Pokeplayer and Voice Disk to see if we can attract a Gligar,” he continued. “I really do like Gligar and have wanted one for a while.”

I unlocked the gates and led us both inside as the Pokeplayer started to play the sounds of Gligar call. “I understand that, I have my own Gligar who I caught a few years back. It can be a great addition to any team.” I started to led him to the path that encircled the base of the mountain. If Gligar was to be found it would be found near the base, not higher up where the Rock and Fire types lived. “Anybody else you’re looking?” I focused on a shape behind a boulder.

Before he answered a small brown, conical shaped head put out of the earth in front of us. It fixed us with its small beady eyes and winkled its pink nose at us. “Ah, it’s a Diglett. You want one?”

The Ranger unlocked the corroded iron gates and we strolled into the Park. It felt so good to be back for the first time in so long! The brown mountains pierced the bright blue sky above and I had to squint a little in order to keep my eyes on them and avoid the glaring sun. We gradually made our way to a beaten down path that seemed to spiral up and around one of the smaller mountains.

“Anybody else you’re looking?” my ranger said, breaking the nice silence.

"Yeah, I'm eager to complete my Pokedex - or at least advance it somewhat. I'm open to most Pokemon that can't be found in the Pokemart as I prefer to collect underused and rarer Pokemon. A little mole-like Pokemon with a bright pink bulbous nice popped out from behind a boulder.

“Ah, it’s a Diglett. You want one?”

"Sure. They're kinda cool and they have a very cool ability: Arena Trap. Hmm, Gengar, I think you could work nicely here against this little Diglett," I said, tossing the plain Pokeball into the air. After a temporary beam of white light, a purpley-gray Ghost and Psychic type Pokemon emerged. He could sense an upcoming battle and his face stretched into a grin. "Our opponent is this here Diglett. I don't think it will be too difficult to beat, but we shouldn't underestimate it. Let's start off with a Will-o-Wisp and then try a Giga Drain.

Gengar nodded at me, before shutting his eyes in concentration. His hands shot forward instinctively and his face contorted into an angry one. Between his two hands, a ball of pulsing purple energy began to form. It slowly began to take a definite shape before shooting forward, followed by a flagellum-like tail to help the Will-o-wisp attack to move about in the air as it was directed by Gengar towards the Diglett. Before the attack had hit, Gengar prepared the next attack. His hands pointed towards the ground and I could see a vague green mist begin to form. It began to concentrate in colour and envelop Gengar.

Giga Drain was one of those moves that really varied among the Pokemon and their personality. I knew that Gengar had just about mastered his technique of using this task and if everything went to plan the mist would envelop the Diglett, holding it momentarily in place and sap some energy. If it worked really effectively then it might even heal Gengar of some damage it had received, although we don't need to worry about that now.

“Sure, they’re kinda cool and they have a very cool ability: Arena Trap,” Jay said, reaching for the standard red and white Pokeball attached to his waist. “Hmm, Gengar, I think you could work nicely here against this little Diglett. The Pokeball broke open to show the purple body of the Ghost Pokemon, Gengar. Gengar was one of the better known Ghost types, not just for his rarity but it’s power as well. It was the mark of a powerful trainer. “Our opponent is this here Diglett. I don’t think it will be too difficult to beat, but we shouldn’t underestimate it. Let’s start off with a Will-O-Wisp and then a Giga Drain,” Jay commanded his Pokemon.

The Gengar gave his trainer a nod and turned towards the small dirt dwelling Diglett. The short arms of Gengar were thrust in front of the Pokemon as he face twisted in a frown. A small orb of purple fire sprang up and grew in size until it was about the size of a Baseball. With a snarl the Gengar flung the attack at Diglett and immediately began to prepare for his next move.

The Diglett wasn’t going to take this lying down though. Before the WoW attack could reach the Ground type, Diglett cried out in a squeaky voice and a Sandstorm suddenly sprant up, obscuring most of my view of the battle field.

Gengar ignored the biting sand and prepared his next attack, the Giga Drain. The Poison Pokemon summoned up a mist of Grass energy that enveloped the Diglett and started to leach life from the smaller Pokemon. But before the mist could reach Diglett and dark fist made of energy lashed out and struck Genger in the body. Gengar floated back a few inches, but kept his concentration up and continued with his attack, absorbing energy from Diglett.

The Diglett burrowed into the rocky ground and came up about five feet away. It was weary and tired, but made ready its next attack. It seemed to concentrate, and a few moments later small rocks around the Pokemon began to levitate before being flung at Genger.

As the purple flames approached the little dirt-mole, it tried to shroud itself by shooting up sand and blowing it around. This created a temporary sandstorm, which could be kind of annoying later on. However, I knew that the Will-o-wisp had managed to strike and inflict a burn status on the Diglett as it let outa high-pitched help. Gengar jumped into performing the next attack, Giga Drain, almost immediately. He was playing smart and not looking directly into the sandstorm.

Before the green mist could engulf the little Diglett, it shot forward and slammed into Gengar with a quick Sucker Punch. Although, the name was quite misleading, this attack didn't actually involve the Pokemon using their fists as its name in Japanese was actually Surprise Attack. Gengar didn't seem too badly hurt, and even if he did, he was looking much better after the Giga Drain had sapped some energy from the Diglett and was starting to restore his own health a little bit.

The Diglett quickly shot under the ground afterwards. A few seconds later its rounded head shot up out of the ground, sending rocks shooting up into Gengar. The Diglett sure looked weakened after the attack. But Diglett was close enough that I had try and capture it with a regular Park Ball. But, first of all, we had to try and get rid of this annoying Sandstorm. I had an unusual idea, but I don't know if it will work out too well.

"Gengar, you need to be very careful with the next attack so we don't hurt Diglett too badly. Try and use a Clear Smog attack to remove this pesky Sandstorm. The noxious gas will probably sting Diglett quite a bit and hurt him before it fades, so make sure not too use a very powerful one. After, I'll try and capture this little Diglett."

Gengar opened his mouth and a thick purple gas-like substance began to flow out. The stealthy gas creeping along remibded me of the dry ice effectsI had seen at a concert before. As the purple gas approached the Diglett, I took out a Park Ball. Trying to focus on the little mole, I chucked it in...

To my surprise, instead of opting to dodge or use a protecting move, Jay ordered his Pokemon to attack with a Clear Smog move. While Gengar conjured up the purple gas the Diglett launched his small projectiles at Gengar, peppering the bigger Pokemon with stone. Despite getting off the attack Diglett was still trapped by the noxious gas, and I could hear its cries of pain. Jay had to capture the Pokemon quickly, otherwise he wouldn’t be able to catch it.

Jay seemed to realize this because he pulled out one of his green Park Balls. He sighted on the outline of the mole Pokemon, hidden behind the gas, and chucked the capture device at it. I heard a smacking sound followed by a muted ruby light.

When the gas finally disappatted I saw the Park Ball wiggling intently as the Ground Pokemon tried to escape. Ten seconds later a ding sounded and the bay lay still. I walked over and retrieved the ball, dropping it in my own bag.

“You can have the Pokemon upon the conclusion of the run. Anything else you want to do before we move on?”

Luckily, the Parkball I had thrown into the gas had managed to bump the Diglett on the head and suck him into the ball. As the purple clouds began to fade, I saw the green ball rock back and forth for a few seconds before growing to a halt and letting off a 'ding' sound. Gaius stowed the caught Diglett in his satchel-like bag and turned to me.

"Anything else you want to do before we move on?"

"Nah, I'm good. Let's head up along this trail that seems to lead up the mountain. I have a good feeling about this."

“Nah, I’m good.” Jay recalled his Gengar and pointed at a trail. “Let’s head up along this trail that seems to lead up the mountain. I have a good feeling about this.”

I nodded un understanding and hoped Jay’s intuition was spot on, it would suck not to come across some good Pokemon. But like the client, I had an inkling that something good would come up during this one. Besides, it would be bad form for me to not find at least one good Pokemon for the trainer.

“Very well, let’s head up the flanks of the volcano and see what we find waiting for us.” Because I knew the climb could be treacherous and tiring so I made sure that my climbing equipment and water was within arm reach. “I hope your brought at least some water and snacks. Without any liquids you’ll quickly succumb to the ash and heat.”

I waited for his reply and unstrapped one of my climbing axes, just in case I needed to it quickly. I then led the way up the steep path. I wasn’t as steep as it could some parts because the people who laid the path and made it in a spiral pattern to reduce the strain, but there was some paths that led straight up if one was more adventurous.

With that done I led the way up the mountain. We had only been walking for about three minutes before I heard a scratching sound between some rocks just off the main path. I motioned for Jay to stay back and crept over. I peeked over and saw that it was an Axew sharpening its small tusks. I returned to my client and told him what I found.

After a few minutes of walking, no more than three or four, Gaius signalled to me and pointed. Behind some rocks was an Axew making horrible noises by scraping its nails against the rocks.

"Nah. I was never really a fan of Dragon types. Let's try and slip past this. If we can't get by I'll purchase a Pokedoll and use it so we can escape.

I nodded to him, not wanting to speak and draw the attention of the Pokemon. I moved us back down the path until we were about thirty feet away. Then I stepped off the path and picked a path that would lead us around the Dragon Pokemon. When the scratching sound continued after we had passed the Pokemon I knew that it wasn’t going to bother us.

Just as I was about to tell Jay he didn’t need his money I heard the clattering off hoofs coming towards us. I looked up the path a saw the creamy complexion of a Ponyta, it’s blazing tail held high it trotted towards us.

Luckily enough, the Axew didn't seem all too bothered by our presence, whether he noticed us gawking at him or not. Stealthily, we began to creep away until I heard clicking sounds approaching. As I looked up I saw a little Ponyta with a blazing mane. It looked up at us inquisitively before bringing its head down and chewing at some dried grass. Its mouth moved slowly until suddenly it jumped up. It appeared startled by our presence and I felt bad for scaring the poor thing. It gave a weak neigh before bowing is head to face the cracked ground.

"Not too bad a Pokemon. Want one?"

I had to actually consider this one for a few seconds. Ponyta were quite cool and all, but if I caught one I knew it would never be used.

"I'm sure it'd be much happier here, where it actually sees the light of day. Let's move on."

Jay thought hard for a few seconds before coming to a decision. “I’m sure it’d be much happier here, where it actually sees the light of day. Let’s move on?”

It was a good response, it would be a shame to catch the Pokemon then not use it. I knew such a thing happened because I did it to some of my Pokemon, mostly on accident or I had no need to use it. My Magnezone and Zoroark were perfect example. But eventually I hoped to be able to Magnezone once I got it a few extra moves.

“Glad to see you’re considering the ramifications of your choice,” I drawled, pleased with his choice. “Let’s go.” I led my client past the Ponyta, rubbing its snout in greeting. The little pony whinnied in delight but let us pass by.

With the Ponyta safely behind us, we started to climb once more. This time it tooks us a good fifteen minutes before out next encounter. We came across a Phanpy searching for food among some foliage growing near some rocks.

“I’m guessing you want to avoid it?”

"Glad to see you're considering the ramifications of your choice," Gaius said promptly. I was glad he thought of it in that way and not that I just didn't care for the Pokemon. Too many trainers have that approach these days... Those goddamn whippersnappers.

Slowly, we crept past the grazing Ponyta and made our way on. The mountain began to grow steeper as we climbed and we had been walking for a good while before we noticed our next encounter. It was a Phanphy this time, shoving its trunk here and there as it foraged for food.

"I'm guessing you want to avoid it?"

"You know me too well. Let's try and sneak past it, but I can afford a Pokedoll if the need arises.

“Roger that.” I took a quick swig of water and set out. Fortunately the little elephant was too busy looking for food and it paid us no attention. It seemed to be a theme of this Pokemon, not many Pokemon wanted to battle us, they just wanted to be about their business.

Just as I was about to tell Jay to keep his money, a loud howl rent the air. It was close by. I moved my hand to my Pokeballs and scanned our surroundings for the source of the snarl. A saw a shadow pass by and looked up to see a Houndoom leap from an outcropping of rocks and land in the middle of the path. The Phanpy let out a squeal and ran. The Houndoom looked at the retreating Pokemon before it turned to us.

I gulped. “Our luck might have ran out.”

As we were just about to try and flee from the Phanphy, we heard a loud howl. Within seconds, a black Hell-dog seemed to appear out from nowhere. The Phanphy ran away making panicking noises. The frustrated-looking Houndoom turned to us.

I heard Gaius gulp before he began to speak. "Looks like our luck may have run out."

I agreed. "I remember reading before that the best way to evacuate situations like this is to back away slowly. If he follows I will purchase a Pokedoll. If we do manage to get away, I'll use my Litwick disc immediately. I believe the Gligar one has run out," I said, pacing backwards.

“Sound idea, but’s try this instead.” I stepped from the path, grabbing Jay’s arm and moving him with me. The Houndoom fixed his eyes on us for a few more seconds before he turned and sped after the fleeing Phanpy. I knew I didn’t want to be in this area much longer if that Houndoom came back.

We were almost to the halfway mark when I noticed the tufts of ash starting to fall from the active volcano. I reached into my bag and affixed my mask to my face. It was uncomfortable to say the least, but it would protect my lungs.

I had just finished affixing it to my face when a hulking mass appeared from a thick cloud of ash. It was the legendary Pokemon Dialga.

“I hope you a camera,” I said to Jay.

"Sound idea, but try this instead," Gaius said. He grabbed my arm and we began to move back tentatively, both keeping our eyes averted from the Houndoom's intense stare. The Houndoom seemed to realise that Phanphy would be a better target, and shot in the direction the little elephant had clambered off to. Relieved we had gotten away, we continued on our way.

A few minutes later, ash began to fall and Gaius attached a nerdy-looking face apparatus to protect him from the annoying ash. I soon regretted thinking it was nerdy when the billowing ash was pounding me in the face. Suddenly, after a cloud of ash began to drift away, a huge Pokemon was revealed. I recognised it as a mighty Dialga and quickly snapped a picture.

Instead of replying Jay whipped out a camera and started to snap a picture like his life depended on it. The Dialga swung its gaze to us and snorted, loudly. A second later the Pokemon was gone. Legends hated getting their pictures taken, it was an affront they wouldn’t stand for.

“Well, there it goes. Let’s move on.” Just as the words left my mouth a small Phanpy came running up to us. “Another Phanpy.”

The Dialga gave a loud snort before turning away from us didainfully.

"Well, there it goes. Let's move on."

"I agree. Hopefully there will be some tougher Pokemon the farther we go up and my Pokemon would really like a challenge," I replied.

Just a few minutes later, another Phanphy appeared. This one was a little smaller than the last, but I still didn't really want it.

"Let's try and move on."
