“Let’s try and move on,” Jay replied, still not interested in the little Elephant Pokemon.

“Can do.” I stooped to the Pokemon’s level and looked it in the eyes. “Go now, Jay isn’t looking for a Phanpy and I’m sure you can find a different trainer.”

The Phanpy looked between us for a few seconds before it bounded off into the ash, its large ears flapping.

I looked up at Jay. “Done, let’s move on. We’re halfway to the summit, it should only take us about another twenty or so minutes to get there.”

As we climbed the flanks I chose to take a more direct path to the top. A few minutes into the walk the ash was coming in droves, blotting out the sun and obscuring my vision. I spotted a gout of flame in the distance and moved us towards it. I was a small Magby practicing its Fire attacks.

    “Fiesty little one.”

    OOC: 6,000 - 500 = 5,500

The Phanphy bounded off almost immediately, probably just as disinterested in us as I was of him.

"Done. Let's move on. We're halfway to the summit, it should only take us about another twenty minutes or so before we reach the summit."

"Alright. We're getting there at least. Whether it kills us in the process-"

A burst of flanes nearby caught my attention. My hopes of finding a rare Fire type were shattered when I saw the Magby.

"Let's keep looking," I said somewhat dejectedly.

Jay’s face lit up when he saw the flame, but his hopes were dashed a moment later when it turned out to be a Magby, a common enough Pokemon even though it evolved into the rather powerful Magmortar.

“Let’s keep looking,” Jay said, crestfallen.

As I made to move us away from the area the Magby spotted us and started towards us. Jay’s face darkened even more and he handed over a stack of bills. I traded him a Pokedoll, which he promptly tossed at the Magby. The Fire type went after the toy and left us alone.

I steered the client away from the Pokemon and back onto the path. But when we got to the path I felt a rumbling in the ground. At first I thought it might be a minor shake, but that notion was dashed a moment later when I large snout pushed out from the ground. It was a moderately rare Pokeon, Hippopotas. I looked over at Jay.

As I suggested that we move on from this area and the Magby, I suddenly got the feeling that it wasn't going to let us go so easily. It darted up towards us with a glum look on its face that almost reminded me of the facial expressions similar to that of a spoiled child. Its mouth stuck out as it pouted and there were dark patches covering its eyes, creates by the bulging forehead. I had another look at the forehead, that oddly resembled an exposed brain and gave a little shudder. I gladly handed over the required money to Gaius, my Ranger, in order to purchase a Pokedoll.

Gaius fished around in his bag for a moment before withdrawing a large fluffy Clefairy. Its features were quite discernible and it was definitely one of the finer quality Pokedolls out there. It almost felt like a bit of a waste of such hard work that had gone into making this only for it to be ripped to shreds and discarded after me using it as merely a distraction. I tossed it to the little red Fire type, who suddenly looked overjoyed. The big smile that took over made up for wasting a lot of money on that doll. Hopefully the little Magby would get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

"Let's move on then," I said, still keeping an eye on the Magby who had now began to rip up the doll viciously and shove its curious face into the fluffy insides. "Let's continue along the path. It's always best to stick with the trail in areas you aren't too familiar with. I mean, I would have been before, but now it is all blurry. I only vaguely remember different areas of the National Park, but hopefully I'll learn more and remember more as I begin to explore it more and more.

Suddenly, the ground began to quake a little bit and I was slightly thrown off balabce for a little bit. I was only wondering what the tremors were about, and wondering about the possibility of it being Pokemon-made rather than by nature, when a large pale brown snout poked up out of the ground. Along with it came a short body with stubby little limbs. The pale brown Pokemon with darker camouflage design looked up at us jubilously and I couldn't help but grin.

"You know, I've never been a huge fang of Hippopotas or anything, but I like the goofy look of this one. I definitely want to battle this little guy." I pulledout the familiar red and white Pokeball that just about everyone was accustomed to seeing in the Pokemon world and tossed it forward. As the mechanism opened up and a light began to flash, the silhouette of the cuddly-looking Ghost type appeared.

"Alright, Gengar. This Hippopotas is our new opponent. Try not to hurt it too badly so start off with a Will-o-wisp and then follow it up with an Icy Wind attack!" I commanded. Gengar gave a grunt to show his approval of what I had asked him to do before he began the combination of moves.

His eyelids began to droop initially, as though he was planning on going to sleep, but they shot open almost immediately, revealing blotchy blood-red dilated pupils. The hands shot together instinctively and Gengar began chanting evilly under his breath. The incantation brought a spark at the click of his pointed fingers and that transformed into a brightly-lit ball of flames. The ball of flames moved forward slowly, engulfing Gengar. When the time was right, I knew Gengar would send the flames shooting out and hopefully catching the opponent off gaurd and managing to hit them with a Will-o-wisp attack.

Next, his mouth stretched open wide, and I could see a cyan coloured mist began to appear, swirling around slowly. I knew Gemgar would blow out this mist at the Hippootas in the form of an Icy Wind attack after he had performed the Will-o-wisp.

“You know, I’ve never been a huge fan of Hippopotas or anything, but I like the goofy look of this one. I definitely want to battle this little guy.” Jay pulled out the ball containing his powerful Gengar. “Alright, Gengar, this Hippopotas is our new opponent. Try not to hurt it too badly; so start off with a Will-O-Wisp and then follow it up with an Icy Wind attack.”

Soon as those words left his mouth a fierce sand storm sprang up out of nowhere, no doubt the work of the Hippopotas with its ability of Sandstream.

This didn’t seem to phase the Gengar, as he simply ignored the buffeting sand and concentrating on building the flame that made up the WoW attack. In no time at all, due to the frantic chanting of Gengar, a small ball of purple flame had built up in front of him. Just as the WoW reached the right stage, Gengar opened his mouth and sucked in air, icy crystal immediately began to form around his mouth. With both attacks ready, the Ghost Pokemon fired them off at Hippopotas. Hippopotas saw the attacks coming and prepared an attack of its own.

The Pokemon buried his stubby limbs in the rocky ground and shook his thick head, bellowing a challenge at the Gengar. Around the levitating body of Gengar the formations of rocks started to shake as Hippopotas exerted its power. Some of the nearby rocks shot out and clipped Gengar, some of the rocks also disrupting the Icy Wind. But the move failed to complete stop the Icy Wind, the move hitting the Ground type and causing small ice crystal to form on his legs and joints, eliciting a howl of pain from the Pokemon just before the WoW engulfed it.

By now the Pokemon was angry, the ground was rumbling with its rage. Through the sand I could see its body take on a shiny appearance, it was focusing its power to boost its stats in a Curse move. Next, the Pokemon puffed out a bubble that drifted lazily over to Gengar.

“That’s a Yawn move!” I called to Jay, not sure if he could hear me over the sound of the sand.

As Gwngar began to use his twin attack combination, a sandstorm began to brew. I cursed under my breath as the chunks of clumped together sand, rocks and other bits that would be found naturally were sent shooting through the air. I was forced to shield my eyes with my hand and this, unfortunately, impeded my vision of the battle and I was unable to make out everything that was going on. I knew that Gaius would be wearing his handy face mask to help prevent against the majority of the sandstorm blasting against your face. It wasn't the first time I had seen such an apparatus. I remember seeing them on a documentary that was on our small portable television back at home...

"And this little patch of dried grass may not look like much on the surface, but deep beneath it there lies a Pokemon that doesn't look very suited to the sandstorm. That is why it remains under the ground for most of the day time while it cooler and more dry, which are more favourable conditions for the Grass type Pokemon. However, when the sun sets for the day and the moon comes out, this Pokemon emerges from the ground. Rumours tell of this Pokemon coming out and joining with thrings of other Pokemon of the same species and dancing in some sort of a ritual," the commentator ranted on. He was a tall, tanned man who was clearly used to the outdoors and talking to cameras. His dirty blonde hair was quite sinilar to mine, but he kept his shorter and his dull chestnut coloured eyes were nothing on my bright blue ones.

Suddenly, the man stooped down and had begun to move some of the top most layer of sand out of the way. The dried green bush expanded into a vibrant green head, layered with spikes and thorns. This ubusual Pokemon's head didn't appear to have any eyes, unless those bright pink flowers resting on top of its head were its eyes.

"This Pokemon, as you may or may not have guessed, is a Maractus. Quite a rare Pokemon indeed. Now, I would brush more of the sand away but I don't want to bother the resting Pokemon. The billowing sound might wake it up as it bashes against its fragile epidermis," he commentator said as he squinted at the camera. "As I'm sure all my fans are aware, being a Grass type Pokemon this Maractus is an autotrophic creature that converts the energy it receives from the sunlight into energy. Other Pokemon tend to eat the Maractus as it is very moist and a great source of energy and vitamins that Pokemon need. However, it isn't quite as easy as it would seem!"

He grabbed the tight green skin of the Maractus and the camera zoomed in on the Maractus' skin to reveal lots of tiny spikes and needles. The close up shot of the Maractus turned back into a shot of the explorer, except now he was wearing the face mask to prevent sand from getting in his eyes and damaging his sensitive retinas "Those spikes sure don't make it easy for any predators to pierce the skin though!"

I was snapped put of my mini trance by the sound of a yelp, which informed me that the Will-o-wisp had managed to strike the Hippootas. This was great for us and I knew that because Hippopotas was primarily a physical attacking Pokemon, it would be severely crippled because the Burn status condition halved the Pokemon's attack. On top of that, it also dealt some minor damage, which scientists reckon is about one eight of the Pokemon's maximum total Health Points, every few minutes - a very handy tool to beating Pokemon that are quite bulky and need to gradually be worn down.

The pointed rocks slammed into Gengar more harder now than before, just after Gengar had fired off the Icy Wind attack. I had a good feeling that Hippopotas was controlling this somehow, but I wasn't quite sure how. Maybeit had some link to nature and the elements, or maybe it fired the rocks up from below as it used the Sandstorm to act as a distraction so it could attack and escape before Gengar could attack it.

The sand began to fade for a bit and I saw the Hippopotas, covered in icy chunks from the previous Icy Wind attack, start to glow a bright shiny colour, similar to the sun shining above. I knew this was a Curse attack an it would spell bad news as the Hippotas would be bulkier and somewhat stronger. Then, before we had timeto think our next attack through, Hippopotas let out a big pink bubble, which I knew was a Yawn attack and spelled bad news. Luckily, I new a strategy that would block the Yawn attack.

"Gengar, use Substitute to block that Yawn attack. Then, use your Pain Split to steal some of Hippootas' health while it still has relatively high amount of health!" I commanded my dual Ghost and Poison type Pokemon.

Substitute was were the user created an identical copy of itself, atthe cost of a good amount of their health. The clone was pretty much identical and researchers used this Substitute strategy to try and confuse newly discovered Pokemon and test their reaction speeds and how they reactto cpnfrontations and enemies they aren't used to.

Jay saw the Yawn attack through a clearing in the sand and spurred his Pokemon into action. “Gengar, use Substitute to block that Yawn attack. Then use your Pain Split to steal some of Hippopotas’ health while it still has relatively high amount of health!” Jay had to yell to be heard above the sand.

I reached into my pack and retrieved a spare mask I carried. I passed the item over to Jay. Not only would it aid his breathing, he would be able to project his voice better. Yelling like that for a good amount of time would turn the voice hoarse.

Meanwhile, Gengar focused on making a copy of itself. Substitute was a purely visual apparition sustained by some of Gengar’s health, a cost of about twenty-five percent of his total health. Gengar easily created the substitute in a few seconds and placed it directly in front of the Yawn bubble. The pink bubble burst upon the Substitute, doing nothing to Gengar.

I was about to congraduate Jay on his move when I spotted a moving shadow. Hippopotas burst from the sand and attacked the Gengar Substitute, locking his powerful jaws on the copy and biting down, hard. It shook the copy until it dissipated. The Pokemon looked about until it spotted the Gengar, just in time to see the energy thread that snaked out from Gengar and latched onto his back.

The Ground Pokemon tried to turn about and bite the energy link, but failed a moment later as Gengar merged their energy before splitting it evenly between the two. Hippopotas shruddered as the pain from its burn and the suddenly energy sap started to take a toll on the Pokemon. It fixed Gengar with a baleful glare before it responded with another move, it started to make copies of itself in a Double Team move. Soon there was was four copies staring Gengar down.

I found that my voice was becoming quite hoarse and my throat was growing rather sore as I had to keep shouting over this ever-present, raging sandstorm in order to be heard. Luckily enough for me, Gaius proved to be a very helpful ranger, and supplied me with a mask in order to aid my breathing and I think it even had a slight voice magnification mechanic as as soon as I had put this mask on, I felt breathing was much easier and that even when i talked, my voice and each and every word could be made out very distinctly.

In the meantime, Gengar had managed to perform a great performance of one of my all time favourite moves, Substitute. An identical copy to my cuddly-looking Ghost materialised beside him and the two twins shared a knowing grin. I knew that this move could be so effective if utilised properly. However, before we could even really enjoy this new Substitute and celebrate the fact that it had managed to protect Gengar from the very pesky Yawn attack that would send Gengar to deep in a very short amount of time, making him practically set up bait for this annoying Hippopotas. Suddenly, a shadow of the little hippopotamus Pokemon appeared out of nowhere beside the false Gengar and tore it to shreds with its sharpened little fangs. Gengar seemed rather shocked at this and I couldn't blame him for reacting this way.

However, my gengar sure was a true champion Pokemon fighter and it knew better than to get distracted by such tactics and to always expect the unexpected. Now, I know what you're thinking; how can one expect the unexpected, and i hear you, but, it's something that takes an absolute ton of patience, determination and most importantly deliberation. Gengar had fired off two seed-like beams that leeched the energy from the pesky Hippopotas. Gengar looked momentarily relieved as he restored a bit of health and they very stocky bulky hippopotas was gradually being worn down.

Unfortunately for us, Gengar wasn't the only Pokemon out on the field with the same thirst for action and the ability to jump back into battle immediately after being attacked or distracted. The little Hippopotas shook about a little bit and it made several copies of itself. This Double Team attack was very like substitute in some ways, but it was definitely not able to take as much hits and the copies created from Double team were almost transparent or see through.

"Gengar, use Sunny day to try and clear up that weather. Afterwards, use Clear Smog on the Hippopotas if you can. It is very important that we eliminate those stat increases before this Hippopotas becomes an even bigger threat."

Jay gratefully strapped the mask on and turned his attention back towards the battle. His experienced eyes took in the unfolding battle and he quickly chose his next plan of attack.

“Gengar, use Sunny Day to try and clear up that weather. Afterwards use Clear Smog on the Hippopotas if you can. It is very important that we eliminate those stat increases before this Hippopotas becomes an even bigger threat.”

By using only one attacking move Jay wanted to limit the damage done to the Hippopotas, which was clearly understandable because of its low health. The burn alone would be a risky factor to take into account. If he miscalculated the slightest, then Hippopotas would faint, and therefore could not be caught.

He also wanted to make sure that Gengar didn’t take too much damage. Sunny Day would eliminate the sand damage, and by using Clear Smog the stat boosts of Hippopotas would be negated. That coupled with the burn status wouldn’t do much harm to Gengar

As Gengar started the Sun ritual that would clear away the sand, the Hippopotas sank into the ground, leaving only its top and snout above the ground. I didn’t know what it was doing until a moment later it opened up its mouth to reveal a swirling ball of water there. It must have been absorbing moisture from the ground to form the attack since it couldn’t produce it naturally.

Just as the sun started to shine upon the battle brightly Hippopotas fired the attack at Gengar. It lost some of its power due to the sun, but still did some damage to the Pokemon, drenching it with water. But because the attack was weak in nature Gengar simply moved onto his next attack. He quickly built up an orb of purplish smog and fired it off at the Hippopotas.

The attack quickly obscured the area around the Ground Pokemon. Hippopotas didn’t seem to mind because a moment later the Hippopotas charged Gengar lashing out with a silvery object. I knew it to be an Iron Tail attack, normally a pretty powerful Steel move, but with the burn status it wouldn’t do too much.

As the two Pokemon separated once more I could clearly see the battle was taking a toll on the two Pokemon. Gengar was panting hard, but still looked like it had enough energy to give any Pokemon at least a fair fight. Hippopotas, on the other hand, looked like it was ready to drop any second now. Indeed, it’s stubby legs were shaking hard.

I looked over at Jay. “Either you throw a ball now or the Pokemon is going to faint.”

    @AmericanTreeFrog

After having commanded the attack of sunny day to Gengar, he began to perform the move. I could feel my palms start to get sweaty as I knew it was very crucial that the following few moves worked out successfully for us or this Hippopotas could definitely be lost to us forever. It was gradually getting weaker and weaker as the battle was progressing and i knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that we had to try and make the attempted capture on the Hippopotas very very soon before it faints from variables such as how powerful Gengar's moves are and how much they hurt him, but also the Hippopotas's ressistance to the burn status. The burn was definitely starting to take its toll on the little jolly Ground type Pokemon and I could see from the sweat collecting on its rather large forehead and the general way it carried itself about. It seemed to stagger about the battlefield as though it were a drunk Pokemon, something I hadn't seen in a very long time. But, God, i could remember the moment as though it was yesterday, when in fact it was almost ten years ago.

"Dad, maybe that wouldn't be best," a younger, more saddened and gloomy version of myself said, eyes widening in a mixture of worry and fear.

My father, a tall broad man with a dirty grey beard glared at me with utter contempt forcing me to bow my head. the way his intense silver eyes bore into me made me always feel so scared, weak and vulnerable. I knew deep down, that if my mother had not been around he would treat me in a much worse way. He staggered forward, raising his fist at me. The sound of glass smashing as my mother hurled a plate at the insane man I was to call my father. She immediately regretted it as she became his target for him to vent out his anger now, but it was an act of undying love that I still treasure to this day, even after her horrible death in a car crash. But, that was a story for another time.

He grabbed her roughly by the arms and squeezed down hard, after a surprisingly quick lunge towards her. Even to this day I can hear her pleading moan of pain as he kept squeezing her arm, tighter and tighter, until she had nearly fainted with the overbearing pain. But, my mother was a surprisingly strong woman, despite what her petite frame suggested. She lashed out, kicking and screaming, limbs thrashing violently. She managed to hit him hard in the side, which didn't do much but momentarily wind him. His grip loosened a little bit, but he held onto her now matter how much she twisted and turned. He shoved his huge bear-like hands onto her and grabbed the one blue Great Ball from her belt. It contained her prized Pokemon, Oddish. Aside from me, this particular Oddish was my mother's sole reason to love and she loved this thing indefinitely.

Many a time after my father had beaten my poor mother, she would have that special little Oddish create some nice fragrances and mix together its strong scents to try and create pain killers or to hide the pain and scars my mother had after many years of suffering at his hands. Anyway, on this particular evening, my father had grabbed the newly materialised Oddish as the red beam that released it vanished. Its squeel of joy at being let out of the Pokemon capsule turned to a yelp of pain as it was tugged roughly up by its leaves. It thrashed about as my father knocked my mother to the ground. I was helplessly frozen in place as my father picked up a bottle of one of his many spirits, vodka is what he called it if I recalled correctly. He forced the little blue innocent Pokemon's mouth open and easily overpowered it.

I can remember now the sickening sounds made and some nights I wake up still hearing those blood-curdling cries of that little Oddish I had grown so used to after living alongside it and my mother for pretty much my whole life. He poured the contents of the bottle, which was at about three quarters full, before he tipped it down the throat of the poor Grass type. The Pokemon began hissing and writhing around in agony as my father dropped it to the ground. I sat there, motionless, as the Oddish thrashed about, wailing constantly, before it slumped into a ball on the ground. Never to move again.

I snapped out of my trance-like state. The site of the poor Hippopotas stuttering about, so weak and overcome with fatigue made me feel like I couldn't do anything else to the poor Pokemon. I could see it had very similar little beady eyes to that of the Oddish I had loved. I knew then and there, that without even the slightest doubt, I would do everything in my power to catch this Pokemon. I would look after it and raise it up into a different world than I had been brought up in. It would receive nothing but love, affection and by damn I would make sure the Hippopotas felt appreciated and that it was happy and content in its life. The death of the Oddish had really affected me as a child, and definitely hindered my growth and development as both a person and a trainer. Perhaps this is why I had such a strong bond with my Pokemon and hated to hear of any of those scandalous stories that plagued our local news reports.

This bond had always been a part of me and who I was. Ever since my very first day as a Pokemon trainer at the age of twelve, I had developed a very solid and sturdy bond with my Pokemon Clefable, who was just a Cleffa at the time. The reason i started being a pokemon trainer at the age of twelve, and not at the age of ten like just about every other aspiring pokemon trainer in the world, was because of the pain I had learnt to associate with Pokemon at the hands of my father, and I had never really fully gotten over that. But, luckily I took the risk and became a trainer, or I would never have learnt how important these amazing and versatile creatures are to our survival and making our lives that much better.

I whipped out a Park ball, blessed it for good luck, and fired it at the little Hippopotas.

"come on," I whispered under my breath.

Jay must have agreed with me because he reached into his pack and pulled out a green Pokeball with the large yellow letters of ‘N’ and ‘P’ emblazed on the top of it. This meant it was a Parkball, the standard device that most used to catch a Pokemon here in the National Park.

Jay whispered a few words under his breath and chucked the Parkball at the weary Hippopotas. Whatever he said must have worked because the ball sucked up the tired Hippopotas and captured the thing in only a couple seconds.

“Congrats.” I walked over the Parkball and placed it alongside the other one containing the caught Diglett. “You only have space for one more. Ready to head out?”

OOC: I'll be using the Litwick Voice Disc for this post, then Gligar for the rest until it runs out if you don't mind.

    @AmericanTreeFrog

As the ball sailed through the air, I began to get worried. What happens if I didn't succeed and this Pokemon fainted? Would it survive out here in the cruel world, or would it suffer in agony just as my poor mother's Oddish had? I felt that I needed to try and protect this Hippopotas so I tried to push back these negative thoughts and just see what happens. The green ball conked the drowsy looking Hippopotas on the head.

A blazing beam of white light drew Hippopotas into the ball, where it fell to the cracked ground and began to wobble. The pressure was building up until the ball stopped and gave off a little bing. It took a few seconds to realise the capture was successful and that I could have the Hippopotas soon enough.

"Congrat," Gaius says as he stows away the ball.

I decided to try and just move on and get out of her as quickly as we can. "Let's see if there's anything else we might want to capture before the day is out."

“Let’s see if there’s anything else we might want to capture before the day is out,” Jay said after a moment.

“No problem,” I said. “Let’s continue to head to the summit, we’ll probably find some fire types dwelling near there.”

I located the path we had strayed from during the battle and headed north. We were almost to the summit I knew. The banks of ash had become thicker, causing only a small amount light to shine through. I figured we only had about ten minutes before we would reach the top. From there we could descend the mountain to the base.

After a few minutes of walking the end was in sight, heavily obscured by the falling ash, but still there. Blocking our path though was a small brown Pokemon with a thick club and the top half of a skull on its head. The Pokemon was playing the club, tossing it and letting it return.

“A Cubone, not many people have those, even though they aren’t rare.”

We retreated back to the main path that would lead us to the summit, and we decided to continue upwards. The air was a lot more humid and hot up here so I knew that we must be very near to the summit. The falling ash seemed to block most of the light too, and the intensity of the annoying ash seemed to gradually get worse. A few minutes later, I nearly tripped over a small brown Pokemon wearing a skull helmet.

"A cubobe. Not many people have these, even though they aren't rare," Gaius noted.

"Eh, just like with the Ponyta earlier, I know I would never use this. Besides, all we've battled thus far has been Ground types. Let's keep going," I said, reading the money to pay for a Pokedoll if needs be.

“Yeah, I’ll see if will go away.” I walked over to the Cubone and exchanged a few words with it. It was receptive of my words and simply nodded before walking off, letting us pass. “Come on,” I said to the trainer. “We’re almost there.”

In only a couple of minutes we reached the summit of the volcano. I didn’t take us to the very top because of the danger involved, but kept us about fifty feet away. Waiting for us there was a small Sandshrew. It uncurled from its ball form and looked up at us.

Just like with pretty much every encounter we had this run, we managed to escape with relative ease. We continued on and I began to feel myself grow somewhat weary. Maybe it was the relentless sun, or perhaps it was the lack of Pokemon I had hoped to find. Either way, I had a feeling this run wouldn't last much longer. When we reach the summit, a ball uncurls, revealing the brown shrew.

"Let's try the other side of the summit."

Jay shook his head at the small Pokemon. “Let’s try the other side of the summit.”

“Alright, we’ll check it out before we head down the mountain. It’s getting late.”

I moved away from the Sandshrew, who simply curled back up and left us alone. I sighed in relief knowing that Jay would get to keep his hard earned money, it sucked to use it when they didn’t have a doll. But the park needed the funds and it was a fair exchange.

We didn’t come across any more Pokemon until we reached the other side. Once we did get there I failed to spot a single Pokemon. I was about to suggest to Jay that we just head back down the mountain when I heard a bird call. I looked up and saw the outline of a large bird circling the thermals overhead.

“It’s a Braviary. You want one?” I didn’t think he did, but it was polite to ask. “If you don’t at the very least you can snap a picture.”

OOC: I'll leave after taking these picture. Thanks for rangering man.

    @AmericanTreeFrog

“Alright, we’ll check it out before we head down the mountain. It’s getting late.”

I nodded as we moved on to the other side. The sun was less intense now but that didn't really matter too much because not a single Pokemon was in sight. I sighed as I was beginning to accept that they day was over and no more Pokemon would show. However, I heard a war-like cry from some sort of bird. A Braviary landed nearby and Gaius looked at me, somewhat half-heartedly.

“It’s a Braviary. You want one? If you don’t at the very least you can snap a picture.”

I agreed, took a picture, and we began to make our way back down the mountain.

Jay snapped a quick picture of the gliding bird and said that he wanted to end his run early. It was getting dark and it would be fairly hard to find anymore Pokemon from here on out. I of course agreed with him and led the way down the mountain. We only ran across two Pokemon but I dealt with them.
