Individual RP: Rage Baron

I mindlessly clicked on the computer, playing random games. Today was a slow day. I was zooming out, having ditched my ranger papers that I have to fill on my desk and simply wasting away the day. Of course, that WAS until I accidentally opened up the ranger page. Cool! A trainer. I immediately claimed the run, and read the more fine details later. Oh, what a coincidence- my Togekiss Momo is jolly too. I grabbed both Lavi my Camerupt's ball and Momo's, attaching them to my necklace before grabbing my holly sling bag. I printed out the details of the run, so I could read more later. Not only will this occupy my time and hopefully let me get new friends, the predictable yelling of my boss having not done the paperwork would be delayed.

"Let's go!" I said to myself, before going out of the small log cabin. In front of me was the Great Lakes. Wrong area- the trainer was in the Woods. I stepped into the teleporter, and experienced the familiar feel of being squeezed through a hole just too small. In a jiffy, I was at the gate of the Woods. After checking the details of the run again and making sure my black fringe was straight, I flicked back my shoulder length hair and tightened my tie. *Let's see... the name of the trainer is Raphael Kane. I looked at the gate and awaited for my trainer to come- hopefully she's already received a message from Main Control that her run has been accepted.

Raphael Kane approached at the gate, walking at a rather leisurely pace. He wore a black cotton shirt, a pair of jeans, a denim jacket, and an extremely punchable grin. On his shoulder, a small, cream-colored creature wearing an eggshell was perched. By his side walked a large, black canine with a red muzzle, curled horn, and mildly fiery eyes.

This was Raphael's first time in the park, and he was not quite used to the almost entirely wild surroundings. The sounds and smells of wild Pokemon were not really anything new, but he had always been in such surroundings with some good security. He had never even entered the woods just outside the family manor. At the time being, he was entirely alone to defend for himself.

As he arrived at the gate, he spotted a young woman with dark hair. He was surprised to find that his ranger seemed to be younger than his own self.

As he approached, he found himself unable to figure out of to introduce himself. He never was the social type. When Raphael finally approached, he just stood there for a moment. He finally feigned a smile, put out his hand, and said, "Raphael Kane. What's yours?"

 

"My name is Timpeni. I'll be your ranger for today." I said, shaking hands with the rather stiff trainer. He didn't seem to be very social or upcoming- just like me before I became a ranger, a suppose. I learned to be a bit more open after I made friends with trainers I took on runs, and the fact that my boss would practically kill me if I seemed distant and unfriendly to the trainers. I needed to money from rangering badly- I had no other source of income. Sure, it was a bad thing, but what else can I do? I only took a few lessons in Pokemon school. I couldn't go to college and train to be a referee or judge. I tried to be a writer, but I didn't have the money to get my stories published. I guess I could be a gym leader or something sooner or later. But for now, I didn't have much gym material.

"How would you want to go deeper into the woods? By walking or flying?" I said, releasing my Togekiss. His elegant wings spread across, and he yawned. Momo looked grand, but in fact he was still a baby. His rapid evolution was unexplainable and envied by my Vaporeon Mimi. I almost said riding, before I remembered that only I was crazy enough to ride on a Camerupt. But Lavi was quite friendly, though her tough exterior scared most away.

Raphael watched the Togekiss flap its large, white wings. His grimace turned into a slightly warmer smile. He then turned his head towards Scratch, still upon his shoulder. The little guy would end up being like this Togekiss someday. He would be just as grand a creature.

Scratch put his paw to his mouth and gave a light yawn. Raphael immediately realized that his legs were sore from walking, and that Vice's probably were as well. He turned to Timpeni, whose smile displayed a genuine attempt at friendliness. She certainly gave him a good first impression.

"Flying, please," he said, as he pulled out a pair of Pokeball to allow his Pokemon a brief moment of rest.

 

"Flying it is." I said, before Momo tilted to his kept, allowing us to climb on. His feathers were stiff, yet comfy at the same time, allowing us to get a firm grip on his body as we flew. Rapheal followed suit, his Pokemon now in his Pokeballs. Slowly, Momo moved upwards, gaining height steadily, like an airplane. I looked down, to see mounds of trees- some mushroom shaped, some sharp and tall, and some dead, completely bare. Through the trees, I saw an Ariados close by.

"Would you like to battle an Ariados?" I asked Rapheal. Momo was also ready to stop if need be for Rapheal to attack the spider Pokemon. Its red-and-black stripes displayed menace as it crawled upon the forest floor, unwary of us. For now, at least. I just hoped something didn't go horribly wrong, like on my previous runs. I have no idea how a Manectric could sneak up on me like that...

There were few things that Raphael preferred more than the fresh air he experienced in times like this. Flight happened to be one those things, funnily enough. He took a deep breath as he enjoyed the flight. It would be a while before he could experience it again.

"Would you like to battle an Ariados?" asked Timpeni. Raphael was interrupted from his own thoughts, and looked towards the red spider below. He frowned, stopping now would not really be to his benefit at this time in any way.

"No thanks," he said, "I'm not much of a spider person." He gripped the Togekiss tighter than before.

 

Unfortunately, the Ariados wasn't going to give up a fight. A spider web shot out of its mouth the moment it saw Momo gaining speed above it. Momo felt his wings being constricted as the spider web enveloped him, and to top it off with a String Shot, Momo couldn't glide through the skies, his wings now bound to his body. We landed on the ground softly due to Momo's slow falling speed, but now the Ariados was closing in. I tried to cut of the string, only to be met by another String Shot.

"You either have to battle it or us a Pokedoll. If you battle it, park rules say you have to knock it out unless you use a Pokedoll. The Pokedoll will distract it enough to let me get the sticky web off my Togekiss." I said to Rapheal. This isn't going as I planed...

Upon landing, Raphael swore under his breath. He quickly got to his feet and dusted himself off. The Ariados was closing in slowly, and seemed to be interested in a battle. It was clear from the way it kept Momo from breaking free. In fact, it was obvious.

Timpeni rushed to her Togekiss with a knife, to help Momo's cause. While she worked she yelled, "You either have to battle it or us a Pokedoll. If you battle it, park rules say you have to knock it out unless you use a Pokedoll. The Pokedoll will distract it enough to let me get the sticky web off my Togekiss."

Raphael gave another cuss. He knew he should not have been so cheap with park equipment. With Momo unable to move, and Timpeni busy working on getting it free, Raphael found that his only choice was to defend the vulnerable Pokemon and its Trainer. It was a good cause, he admitted to himself. Much better than the Pokemon thievery he usually dabbled in.

He reached for a Pokeball, and opened it. The red light revealed the large black dog who had accompanied Raphael to the gate. It was Vice, whose first action was to give a mighty roar. The Ariados was not intimidated, though. It merely hissed in response, its eyes raring for battle. Since that plan failed, Raphael barked out his first command.

"Vice, let's power up with a Nasty Plot, then follow with a Flamethrower." The strategy was a simple one, and one of Raphael's favorites.

 

The Ariados eyed Vice as he thought up horrid ways to attack the spider. His eyes turned a vivid dark red, and body glowed an eerie black. Vice bowed his head down, which made the Ariados unwary. The spider leapt up, using the trees that surrounded it as a kicking area to leap over Vice. It released several Toxic Spikes, only to be met by a flare of unimaginable pain. The flamethrower scorched Ariados the moment Vice lifted his head. The spider darted back, panting. Now Snatch would have some trouble if it had to come in. Vice could slowly maneuver out of the spikes, but only after battle. He could not afford to keep his eyes off Ariados again. It was simply by luck Ariados didn't do anything more damaging. Next time, he may not be so lucky...

"Great job, Vice!" shouted Raphael, as he surveyed the surroundings. The Houndoom was entirely surrounded by the poisonous spikes. With such room to walk and such little time to move, direct attacks such as Fire Fang were entirely out of the question. Vice's only option was to continue with ranged and projectile attacks.

Ariados was standing exactly where the spikes ended, waiting for its opponent's next move. Despite being scorched, it was still not giving up without the fight it was looking for. It did not seem to willing to approach Vice again, but Raphael had been wrong before.

"Vice, stand your ground!" commanded Raphael "Use another Flamethrower!"

 

Ariados reacted faster compared to Vice and Rapheal. The moment the command was issued, the bug dug into the soft yet firm soil, barely escaping the flames. Apparently, it has been digging since it leapt back from the first Flamethrower, so it was already deep enough to conceal itself. Vice looked around, before sniffing the ground, and listening to the tunneling activity of the Ariados' eight legs, slowly getting louder as it approached. If Vice moved away, Ariados would follow.

"It's using dig. Maybe it Vice moved really close to the spikes, when Ariados get out, it may get poisoned!" I yelled to Rapheal, before continuing the tedious cutting. This spider web was strong. No wonder from fisherman in the old ages used these spider webs as fishing nets...

Raphael smiled at his guide. "Hey, that's not so bad an idea."

He turned to Vice, who was still listening for the Ariados's movements. "Alright, here's what we're going to do." Vice looked up, curious as to what his Trainer was planning. "You get as close to the spikes as you can. When Ariados comes back up, surprise him with a Fire Fang. Try to sneak in a Flamethrower while he's still surprised."

Vice immediately bounded to the edge of the spikes. It was just a matter of waiting.

 

The Ariados leapt out of the ground, scratched a tiny bit by the knife-sharp spikes dabbled in poison. Vice bit down with fangs cloaked in a wall of fire, the fire that both burnt and left a mark forever. Vice released as Ariados entered the ground again, two holes now exposed on its back. Vice listened carefully, waiting for it to strike- strike where he least expected it too. The Ariados leapt from behind, quickened due to the previously dug tunnel, and managed to jab Vice. Vice threw back a jet of flames in both self-defense and the orders of its trainer. The Ariados lay in defeat, as Vice panted, the poison rushing through his veins.

"I've got Momo free. And you can purchase a Status Potion if you choose." I said, looking in content as Momo smiled the moment the last cord snapped. That was the last time the large normal-type was going to soar too close to the ground. He prepared to take us on, and I jumped on on him, awaiting for Rapheal's response.

Raphael looked towards his Pokemon. Vice was clearly weakened, but not exactly down for the count. He still needed to be healed soon, though.

Raphael looked at the money he had brought with him. $500. He turned back to Timpeni.

"Would it be okay if I bought it for $500?" he asked. Timpeni just sighed and shook her head. Raphael sighed back, then returned Vice to his Pokeball and jumped on Momo.

 

The feeling of flight was soon felt again. I looked down, Momo's feathers ruffling in the slight breeze. It seemed that Rapheal didn't bring enough for a potion. $500 is only good for a Pokedoll. Momo remembered to be extra gentle in flight to prevent any disturbances to Vice that may cause the poison to hurt it. Poison works with movement, only dissolving the veins and blood cells when just a tiny sway brings the poison from its usual spot in the middle of the vessels, avoiding the cells, into splattering all over them- or at least, my limited knowledge said so. This was only a hypothesis I made in school before I dropped out...

I spotted a tuft of white fur with a pinch of dark red standing out in the trees. A Zangoose stood, surveying the area. I asked Rapheal whether he wanted to face this beast of the woods.

"A Zangoose?" Raphael asked. He peered down at the white mammal below. It was rather tempting, he admitted to himself. It was decently powerful, and it was Normal-type, meaning it had few weaknesses. This was also a problem, however. Neither Vice nor Scratch knew any moves it would be weak to. Raphael also had to take his skill as a Pokemon Trainer into account. He knew his limits. This was well beyond them.

"No thanks," he finally replied. He watched the Zangoose with the slightest hint of regret in his eye.

 

I looked at the Zangoose as it scurried away, not noticing the looming shadow- either that or looming shadows were pretty common here. Momo heaved a sigh of relief, though- it didn't like the land near a Zangoose much. No matter how friendly, a Pokemon with a scar-shaped blotch of red on its eye and claws that could slice through thick bone was not what most Pokemon would consider for friendship.

I looked on and saw another dot of red among the trees. A Kricketune was practicing its song, rubbing the sharp, red claws it had. The sound was actually pretty good, but not yet good enough to send one to sleep. Maybe if one were to make it play its heart out...

By this point, it was clear that Raphael was being rather picky with his encounters. He had several targets decided on when he entered, and he wasn't in the mood for much else. This Kricketune was not one of those targets.

He felt bad about passing it up, but not in the same sense as with the Zangoose. It was rather humiliating to pass up all these fine beasts, and having this younger woman watching him attempt to flee this creature. However, he trusted that the Kricketune was not interested in battle, and even if it was, he still had five hundred dollars to kill.

He turned to Timpeni and shook his head.

 

We were about to fly off, but the springy noise aroused our curiosity. I looked back to see Kricketune ON Momo, using the flexible legs it possessed to land safely. Momo could feel it, and tried to shake Kricketune off, but not without us feeling the movement too. I signaled to Momo to stop, and the air earthquake went still. The Kricketune closed in. This wasn't a joke anymore.

"Damn. It wanted battle over song practice." I said, looking as the bug crossed its knifelike arms next to each other. It wasn't a song. It was a threatening pose. The screeching of the sharp hands seemed to break my ears. It was absolutely horrible. This is why I brought earbuds on most runs. Unfortunately... this time, I forgot. Dammit. Momo was wincing from the sound too. Ouch.
