Despite the wild Pokemon's hopeful look, or maybe it was because of it, Jessie didn't look to be interested in battling the Eevee. “I can't... Let's try and leave Eevee be, he already seems upset enough.”

Upon hearing Jessie's words, Eevee's ears drooped as it realized that it had been dismissed. Almost halfheartedly, it slinked back to the tree that it had been hiding behind. There was no sign that it had moved beyond, so it was likely still watching from afar- that, or something nearby had caught its attention. This proved to be the latter, as there was a shriek as something had been surprised and a brown fur as Eevee bolted from whatever had sounded out the cry.

Makina, having caught the tail end of the shriek, held up a warning to Jessie to stay put as she checked it out. If it was the Pokemon she was thinking about, it had likely shot off a small cloud of poisonous spores to defend itself. Sure enough, a large clump of grass growing near the tree's base was emitting a small purple smoke. As it died down, the top part of the Pokemon was visible; a cap with the near identical pattern of a Pokeball.

“There's a Foongus over here,” Makina called out to Jessie, signing to the Trainer that it was safe to move forward. “It must have been sleeping when Eevee disturbed its rest.”

Jessie frowned as the Eevee she had encountered lulled away. The small glimmer of hope that Jessie thought she had seen in the Eevee's eyes moments before Jessie decided to leave it be had faded. The Eevee seemed extremely depressed.

"Wait..." Jessie murmured, but the Eevee had already fled into the forest. "Oh..." she sighed.

There was a shrill scream that broke the Wood's mysterious silence. Jessie feared that either the Eevee from before had disturbed another Pokémon, or, worse yet, something had disturbed Eevee.

"What was that?" Jessie asked nervously. She quickly spun around, searching for the source, but Makina held a hand out to Jessie, signaling for her to stop and wait. Makina slowly walked away from Jessie and closer to the source of the noise. Jessie spotted the same bolt of caramel colored fur dash away from the scene, and Jessie was glad to see that it was alright. Even if the scream had been from Eevee, at least it had the chance to run away.

"There's a Foongus over here," Makina said, signaling for Jessie to come over and see it. Cautiously, Jessie stood a few feet behind Makina and stared at the Pokémon. She spotted a small, mushroom like Pokémon with a pattern on its head that reminded Jessie of a Pokeball. She had heard about these Pokémon before - kids in Unova had gone into the forest and came out days or weeks later, due to Foongus' powerful sleep-inducing moves. "It must have been sleeping when Eevee disturbed its rest," Makina added.

Jessie nodded her head, acknowledging that the Eevee might've ran into the Foongus while fleeing from Jessie. "That Eevee just can't get a break!" Jessie thought as she pulled out a Pokeball from her backpack. This Pokeball was unlike any other that Jessie owned - this one was entirely normal. Generally, Jessie would make her Pokeballs styled individually so she could easily differentiate them, but there was nothing Jessie could do to this Pokeball. This was her first Pokeball she ever had.

"Come on out, Ark!" Jessie exclaimed, tossing the Pokeball in the air. Once high in the sky, the capsule exploded in light. The light soon faded, and an Arcanine materialized from the data being transmitted out of the small device. The ball almost magically bounded back to Jessie and she tucked it into her pocket as her Arcanine ruffled his fur. This was his first time being out of the Pokeball since this morning when they were waiting at the Ranger Outpost, and he was more than prepared to fight.

"Ark, I'm gonna need you to be careful here," Jessie explained to her Pokémon, who was snarling at the Foongus. "We're in the Woods, and your fire might cause something awful to happen if it gets out of control. It's been raining off and on, so your attacks have less of a likelihood of doing anything major, but we still have to play it safe!" Her Arcanine nodded in response but didn't take his intense gaze off of the mushroom Pokémon.

"Okay, let's get started!" Jessie exclaimed. "Let's pull Foongus out of the trees and into plain sight so we'll have control over the field! Start us off with a Fire Fang and through Foongus into the clearing!" Jessie said, pointing to the non-obstructed patch of grass about 15 feet away from them. "Once it's safe to start using your strong moves, I want you to use Will-o-Wisp to status Foongus with a burn. Sound like a plan?" Jessie asked. Her Arcanine barked in response.

"We might want to watch out," Jessie said to Makina as she stepped out of Arcanine's path. There would hopefully be a flying mushroom sailing through the air just seconds from now, and Jessie would prefer if it didn't smack her in the face.

Jessie gave a nod in response, though she looked a little worried. It was likely that the young Trainer had seen Eevee run away as well and was feeling sorry for the young Normal-type. After a moment's thought, she pulled out a Pokeball and tossed it high into the air. “Come on out, Ark!” she called out as the sphere opened forth.

The Pokeball opened up to reveal an Arcanine; the same one that had been waiting along at the Outpost, actually. Makina had failed to notice that Jessie had recalled the creature, but then again she had been more busy with hurrying to enter the Woods due to showing up late. Either way, the fiery canine creature was free once more and seemed to be in higher spirits than last time. Ark took a look around and, spotting the half-hidden Foongus, let out a low growl.

“Ark, I'm gonna need you to be careful here,” Jessie spoke lowly, warning her partner. “We're in the Woods, and your fire might cause something awful to happen if it gets out of control.” Seeing that Ark understood, she called out her first attack, “Let's pull Foongus out of the trees and into plain sight so we'll have control over the field! Start us off with a Fire Fang and throw Foongus into the clearing! Once it's safe to start using your strong moves, I want you to use Will-o-Wisp.”

Arcanine gave an acknowledging growl, and dashed over to the nearby Foongus. Before he could reach the Pokemon however, Jessie took a few steps to the side and motioned for Makina to do the same.

"We might want to watch out," the Trainer explained, looking over at the two Pokemon.

Makina, who had yet moved from the location she had first pointed out Foongus to the group, took the hint and stepped back as well. Judging from Jessie's reaction and the Arcanine's eagerness to battle, there would soon be a very unhappy Pokemon sailing into the air in the very near future.

The Arcanine chose to play it safe first, setting his mouth aflame only after he had lifted Foongus out of the grassy patch it had been resting in. In response, Foongus let out the same shriek from before, both from surprise and pain thanks to the very real fact that a large creature had both set its head on fire and was currently chomping down. With a snap of his head, Ark effortlessly tossed the Grass-type into the air and towards the path.

Once Foongus had managed to pick itself off from the ground, it was glaring murder at Ark. It slammed its tiny arms to the ground, causing the earth to shake in response. Before Ark could react, multiple grassy tendrils shot forth from underneath his feet and wrapped him to the ground, effectively slamming him down and trapping the Fire-type to the ground.

Despite this sudden change, Ark did not fail to use his next attack. Calling forth an orb of cobalt-blue fire with a roar, he directed the technique towards Foongus. Thanks to being busy with controlling the Grass Knot move, the wild Pokemon was caught by surprise as the Wisp struck and badly burned its body.

Merely seconds after Jessie took a step back, Foongus was flying through the air. The mushroom gave a shrill scream which was quite surprising, coming from such a small Pokémon. Jessie made sure to plug her nose as the Pokémon flew overhead so that she would be protected from any dangerous spores that might've been released into the air upon agitation. However, when the Foongus landed roughly on the ground, Jessie resumed her normal stance with a grin.

"Okay, Ark! Keep up with the plan!" Jessie exclaimed. Her Arcanine gave a brief nod and a smirk, almost as if he was being sadistic about it. He strutted over into the clearing, the same condescending smirk on his face as he stared down at the Foongus. However, the mushroom Pokémon wasn't done fighting yet. With a glare that could kill, the mushroom Pokémon slammed its Pokeball-like stubs into the ground. Long tendrils of grass rose out of the forest floor and wrapped around the unsuspecting Arcanine. Before Arcanine could even register what had happened, the grass tightened around Arcanine, bringing him to the ground.

"Yikes!" Jessie exclaimed. "Are you okay?" she asked, but the simple snort that Arcanine replied back with told her she was fine. The attack was grass-typed, and a weak one at that, so the damage dealt was miniscule. Though Arcanine was hardly in pain, he was physically restricted from moving. The grass had him trapped and unable to move.

The Foongus chimed a quaint giggle as he realized that his opponent was contained. The Pokémon got carried away for a moment - a moment too long, actually. When the Foongus was giggling to himself, Arcanine had prepared his Will-o-wisp attack. With a gentle exhale from his mouth, Arcanine sent forth a mysterious and other-worldly ball of flames. The wist scoured through the air, searching for its target, until it finally saw the small mushroom. The blue ball disappeared as it made the slightest contact with the Foongus, but Jessie immediately knew that the Foongus had been burned. Small licks of blue flames danced across the Pokémon's skin, sure signs that the Will-o-wisp had completed its goal.

"Okay Arcanine, we're almost done!" Jessie said. "First, I'm going to need you to get out of that grass. Try using a small Flame Wheel around your body, but make sure that the flames can't escape from you. Once that's done, I need you to gain some speed. Use Flame Charge on Foongus, and make sure he doesn't get out of your sight!"

Though Arcanine couldn't move, a simple grunt told Jessie that he understood the orders of his trainer. Any moment, when Foongus would be least expecting it, Arcanine would ignite the tendrils of grass around him and charge. This battle was hopefully coming to an end soon, and Jessie couldn't wait for the climactic finish.

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Seeing that Ark had been trapped by Foongus' attack, Jessie called out to her partner to make sure that he was all right. Thankfully for the both of them, Fire Pokemon had a natural resistance to Grass-type moves; only the most powerful of techniques would deal serious damage to the Arcanine. Grass Knot was mostly a trapping move, and Ark had the best weapons at his disposal to remove the plantlike tendrils.

Seeing that Ark was all right, Jessie began calling out commands once more. “Okay Arcanine, we're almost done!” she shouted out, getting the Fire Pokemon's attention. “Try using a small Flame Wheel around your body, but make sure that the flames can't escape from you. Once that's done, I need you to gain some speed. Use Flame Charge on Foongus, and make sure he doesn't get out of your sight!”

Arcanine let out a loud roar, both wreathing his body in flames and causing Foongus to shake in fear from seeing such a formidable sight. The grassy knots, once set alight, quickly crumbled into ash and dropped uselessly to the ground. Due to the ground still being damp, there was no danger of the ashes becoming alight once more on a dry twig or blade of grass. Shaking the last of the ashes free from his fur, Ark turned his gaze towards Foongus once more.

Foongus' reaction, had it been any other situation, was almost comical. Seeing that its large furry aggressor from before was making a beeline towards him, the Grass-type plunged the base of its body deep into the earth. Small roots began to form, and in mere seconds the wild Pokemon was properly secured to the ground. Arcanine would be unable to toss Foongus about without either knocking out the Pokemon or doing serious lasting damage to the creature.

Ark's reaction to the technique was a small smirk. After all, he didn't need to dislodge Foongus for this next attack. Engulfing his body in fire once more, the Arcanine bounded forward and rammed the Grass type, causing the wild Pokemon to squeak in pain. As Ark slowed, however, there was a foul-smelling glob of some poisonous substance matted in the ruff of his fur-Foongus had landed an attack of his own during the Arcanine's Flame Charge. While not poisoned, the glob was slightly smoking as it almost seemed to be burning through the fur.

Arcanine’s body erupted in a bout of flames. Fire danced across his dark orange fur and burned everything that wasn’t part of Arcanine’s body. Occasionally, an Arcanine might get a boost from an attack like this, with a unique ability that Professor Juniper had diagnosed as, “Flame Body.” However, this generally only worked with certain kinds of Arcanines. Though Ark had learned how to utilize this technique of self-inflicted fire without hurting himself, he wasn’t the specific type of Arcanine that would get a boost from it. It was all very confusing to Jessie and she hardly noticed that she was rambling on in her head.

By the time Jessie had returned to reality, the fire from Arcanine’s Flame Wheel had all but died down. The tendrils of grass that were knotted around Arcanine previously had been scorched with the immense heat, leaving behind small piles of ash around him. Thankfully, the weather conditions were still damp enough so that the entire woods wouldn’t catch on fire (Jessie was still watching anyway, in case she would have to act suddenly to stomp out some cinders.)

Ark stood up and glared at the Foongus, giving a sinister smirk. Ark stamped his foot in the ashes on the ground, similar to a Tauros about to charge. Taking a few struts closer, Arcanine’s paws started to ignite. After a few more steps, all four of his legs and most of his chest. By the time Arcanine was sprinting ahead, his entire body was covered with red, orange, and even blue licks of fire. He was like a comet descending to Pokearth, in both color and the way they both gained substantial speed as they approached impact.

In an explosion of light and fire, Arcanine’s flaming body slammed into the poor mushroom. However, when the slight amount of smoke had faded, Jessie saw that the Foongus had remained in the same place. Confused at how the Foongus could’ve taken such a massive hit yet not budged at all, Jessie noticed that the Foongus had used Ingrain, a move that would keep Foongus rooted far underground. It wouldn’t be able to be grabbed by Ark and Jessie contemplated if the move would restrict Jessie’s ability to capture the Foongus.

“Nice job, Ark!” Jessie exclaimed, giving a ‘thumbs up’ to her starter Pokemon. “Now, what to do…” Jessie thought aloud. Trying to find any information that she might possibly have about the getting the species to release its clutches on the ground, Jessie drew a blank. Though they were fairly frequent inhabitants on two of Nimbasa’s closest routes, Jessie hadn’t spent nearly enough time learning about them.

However, there was one thing that reminded her of this same situation. Jessie remembered to just a few days before the expedition, where she received a baby Shroomish from a friend, the Eterna City gym leader from Sinnoh. She had already raised the Shroomish into a Breloom, but, during a sparring match between Jessie’s own Pokemon, the mushroom Pokemon would always freeze up whenever anything would touch its head, even slightly. Perhaps this trait was shared with most mushroom-like Pokemon? It was Jessie’s only guess, so she decided to go with it.

“Okay Ark, remember Broomy back home in Nimbasa?” Jessie asked. Her Arcanine gave a confused nod and sharply inhaled in pain. Jessie realized that at some point during the entire fighting exchange, the Foongus must’ve gotten off a Poison attack that hit Arcanine at point-blank. Arcanine was still standing up and appeared to be in standard condition, but Jessie felt a little more nervous now that she knew Foongus had some attack power.

“Oh…” she trailed off before resuming her thoughts, “well, I want you to use Extremespeed and stomp on Foongus’ head when you get the chance! It’s our only chance at getting Foongus to release its hold on the ground and for me to be able to toss the Parkball!”

Her Arcanine nodded as soon as he understood what she was saying. Looping back around, Arcanine started to charge forwards at mind-bending speeds. His goal wasn’t to deal as much damage as possible, per se, but to simply get Foongus to release its clutch on the ground.

Jessie pulled out a Park Ball from her pocket and prepared to toss it. As soon as Arcanine had sped off out of the way, she would throw it at the Foongus in hopes of capturing it.

    BP3 (Vs. Foongus)

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Upon seeing that Foongus did not go sailing into the air after being struck with Flame Charge, Jessie appeared to be slightly confused by the lack of event. This seemed to pass quickly though, for moments later she was praising Ark for his attack. “Nice job, Ark! Now, what to do...”

Ark gave a quick canine grin in response, though he winced slightly thanks to the acidic burn that Foongus' poisonous attack had left behind. The wild Pokemon, on the other hand, was in far worse shape. The small mushroom was struggling to stay upright, and seemed to have a death drip on the ground thanks to Ingrain.

While the Trainer discussed a strategy with her Arcanine, Makina decided to do a quick checkup on her own team. With any luck, they were either close to done or already on their way to join her. How are things over there, Aria? We're already at the tail end of a second capture here.

<Almost done. This last section is proving to be a serious pain,> Aria faintly responded back. <You could meet us halfway, if you wish. It sounds as if that is likely to happen anyway.>

We may be able to do that. the Ranger did a quick rundown on how many paths were from here to the area where Aria and Rezi were currently working. There were a few side trails, but they were fairly short and easy to blaze through before heading back.

By this point, Jessie was calling out her next command to Ark. “I want you to use Extremespeed and stomp on Foongus’ head when you get the chance! It’s our only chance at getting Foongus to release its hold on the ground and for me to be able to toss the Parkball!” To better express this, the Trainer fished out another Parkball from her pocket.

Ark dashed forward at lightning speed, a blur of red and cream fur as he blazed past. Foongus, having no time to prepare a move, gave a squeak and huddled down into the ground. Surprisingly, instead of ramming the plant creature like it had expected, the large canine simply placed a single paw on Foongus' cap and pressed down hard. Obviously shocked by this strange attack, the wild Pokemon popped up in the air as if it had been spring-loaded.

Jessie wasted no time, throwing the Parkball as soon as Ark had ran out of the way. Foongus was sucked into the sphere, the device barely shaking before it went perfectly still. Either the Grass-type was more exhausted than it looked, or it was just throwing in the towel early.

“And Foongus makes two,” Makina said to Jessie, pocketing the Parkball and placing it alongside Spinda's own Ball. “We can continue on whenever you are ready.”

Arcanine charged forward at speeds outdoing even some airplanes. There was once a legend that an Arcanine could run across all of Pokearth with the sunrise, and Jessie figured that this legend was created from the Extremespeed attack alone. Regardless, Arcanine closed in on his target rapidly. Because Foongus didn't have nearly enough time to react, it simply huddled up into a ball on the ground to take the least amount of damage possible. However, this actually made Jessie's plan work with even more success. All the energy stored in the ball the Foongus was forming, the stomp would be extra effective.

When Arcanine finally did step on his target, however, Foongus gave a reaction far stronger than Jessie was predicting. The mushroom Pokémon was literally uprooted and sent several feet into the air. Jessie would've missed the opportunity of tossing the Parkball if she hadn't reacted quickly. Thankfully, she was able to quickly throw the ball before Foongus had a chance to recover. The ball smacked the Foongus in the center of his body, which absorbed the mushroom Pokémon almost instantly. The ball hardly shook, and Jessie wondered why the Foongus didn't seem to spend much time struggling to get out. Regardless, she cheered and held out Ark's Pokeball.

"Nice job, buddy! Return!" Jessie exclaimed, absorbing her Arcanine in a flash of red energy. By the time Arcanine had been tucked back into Jessie's bag, Makina had already picked up the Parkball and stuffed it in her ranger bag.

"And Foongus makes two," Makina said with a brief smile. "We can continue on whenever you are ready."

"Sounds good," Jessie nodded. "Arcanine will rest up in his Pokeball while we keep heading forward. Lead the way!" Jessie said.

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Jessie gave a nod in response, holding up her Arcanine's Pokeball; she had recalled the canine while Makina had been busy retrieving the Parkball. “Arcanine will rest up in his Pokeball while we keep heading forward. Lead the way!"

“As always, if we pass by a path you wish to check out feel free to speak up,” Makina remarked. “If not, we'll stick to the main road.” And hopefully Aria and Rezi as well, the Ranger silently added. It felt strange to not have one of her trusted partners standing nearby. Either way, she tried to shrug off the feeling and guided them forward.

The further they traveled, the more it became apparent just where the storm had hit. While most of the area seemed fine save for puddles along dips in the ground and the overall quietness of the area, a few trees in scattered portions were bent over as if a strong gale had caused them to nearly break. It was near one of one of the sturdier trees where a Pokemon rested on the lower branches, deep in slumber.

“Looks like a Pineco,” Makina said, rising up on her tiptoes to get a closer look at the Pokemon. “Care to have a go?”

"As always, if we pass by a path you wish to check out feel free to speak up," Makina said as she stepped in front of Jessie. "If not, we'll stick to the main road."

"Yeah, sounds good," Jessie replied. "I'll keep my eyes peeled for any paths that look interesting." She followed her ranger down the slightly battered dirt path. The rain and wind from last night had washed away all forms of footprints, which made the road appear to be ominously unused. Despite her rather strange observation, Jessie continued down the path in silence.

As the duo made it further and further into the center of the woods, the evidence of a strong storm became clearer and clearer. Previously, some trees had been a little bent, but very few trees had been completely knocked over. As they approached the heart of the forest, however, there were far more completely demolished trees. It was as if a massive Regigigas had raised a single hand and swept across the landscape, throwing trees against the ground like they were match sticks.

Jessie gave a slight chuckle to herself when she realized that it was becoming strange to see trees standing up solidly. One large tree stood up while the others around it were almost completely devastated. "Do you see that?" Jessie asked to her ranger. Makina had already apparently been staring at the tree, but for different reasons. Jessie thought the tree itself was odd in the fact that it stood alone, but Makina seemed more interested in a large pinecone that was attached to one of the tree's larger branches.

"Looks like a Pineco," Makina said. "Care to have a go?"

"No thanks," Jessie said. "I can't see a Pineco working into my team and it's resting. Let's try and leave it alone, and I can throw it a Pokedoll if it wakes and tries to stop us."

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Jessie didn't seem too interested in the Pineco, giving the Bug-type a short glance before looking further down the path. “I can't see a Pineco working into my team, and it's resting. Let's try and leave it alone.”

Unfortunately, before they could walk away Pineco decided that now was a fantastic time to wake up. Giving a large yawn, it looked sleepily about before its red eyes focused on the group. Clearly irritated about something, the Pokemon began to glow with a soft light.

Recognizing that Pineco was readying an attack, Jessie tossed one of her Dolls towards the irate Pokemon. Almost instantly, the small Bug-type dropped from its branch and hopped over to the doll. Judging from the happy cries it was making, Pineco definitely appreciated the new toy.

“Well, that was easily fixed,” Makina commented idly. Once again, a young Pokemon had managed to weasel their way to a Doll. The way they had quickly caught on that acting aggressive would get them rewarded with an item was more than a little disturbing. If it kept up, maybe some of the wild Psychic Pokemon helping the Rangers would be willing to help out and teach the others that intimidation would not always work.

Before they could walk out of sight from the Pineco, a white-furred creature shot out from the cover of a fallen tree. It walked about on two legs, the arms tipped with long claws. What had to be the oddest feature though was the large tuft of red fur that was sticking from the top of its head, as well as the way it restlessly moved about.

“A Vigoroth,” Makina said to Jessie in warning. “This could be bad if it decides to fight instead of passing by. Did you want to battle, or want to find a better way to pass?”

Unfortunately, the Pineco had different plans than Jessie and her ranger. Instead of letting them sneak by and leave the Pokémon in peace, the pinecone awoke as soon as Jessie had started to leave the area. The strange, red eyes connected with Jessie for a moment, and Jessie couldn't decide to feel upset or scared. Though the Pokémon wasn't a threat to Arcanine, the ferocity in his eyes seemed uncharacteristic for such a small beast.

"Ugh..." she frowned and pulled out the Pokedoll from her bag. She tossed the doll towards the ground near the Pineco before turning away. "The things Pokémon will do for a stupid toy..." she thought to herself.

"Well, that was easily fixed," Makina said as she too turned around from the Pineco.

"Yeah, I guess," Jessie said. She resumed her normal position of following her ranger from several yards away. It seemed as if Makina was leading Jessie back into the forest instead of this clearing of fallen trees. She hoped that they would be able to continue their journey with ease, but a sudden rustling of grass off the side of the trail denied that possibility. A red and white ape jumped onto the path, flailing around restlessly in front of Jessie and Makina.

"A Vigoroth. This could be bad if it decides to fight instead of passing by. Did you want to battle, or want to find a better way to pass?" Makina asked.

"Let's try and pass," Jessie said, cautiously taking a few steps back. "This monkey doesn't look like it's here to play. If we can't get around it, I'll toss another doll," she said.

    Ranger Makina Auran

    *~~~~~~~~~*

Thankfully, Jessie appeared to know how dangerous Vigoroth could be; instead of taking a closer look at the Pokemon, she took a few wary steps back. “This monkey doesn't look like it's here to play. If we can't get around it, I'll toss another doll,” she said.

Makina gave a nod in reply, and attempted to lead them around the restless Vigoroth by moving sideways and making no sudden movements. For the moment, it looked as if the Normal-type was happy to let them go about their way. It had calmed down, and was looking at them somewhat disinterestedly.

Good, we're almost out of the clear, now we just need to move a few more steps away, the Ranger knew that most aggressive Pokemon tended to let any passerby go if they didn't stand about too long or do anything that looked as if a move was being charged or pull out a Pokeball. Now to just hope nothing-

As if some unknown deity had hurt the thought, a mental response cried out sharply. <We have an issue over here!>

Makina's body gave a sharp jolt in response to the sudden cry- that voice had been Aria. What's wrong? We're sort of in our own bind here and- oh, shit.

Vigoroth, who had been about to turn away, gave a baleful glare as the Ranger had tensed up. Its fur was sticking up on end, and it began to grow angrier by the second. Thinking that the group was up to something, it gave a loud roar and raised its front claws before charging.

“Throw the Doll, now!” Makina called out to Jessie, seeing that the Trainer had pulled out one of the toys. To her credit, Jessie barely hesitated as she saw that an angry Pokemon was closing in fast. In a single quick motion, she tossed the Clefairy doll directly in Vigoroth's path. Fortunately for all involved, the creature slowed to a stop and poked at the plush with one of its sharp claws. In response to the prodding, a small amount of fluff poked out as the claw pierced the fabric.

With the danger here passed, the Ranger swiftly led them away from Vigoroth. Aria, you better have a very good reason for why you gave me a scare. We were nearly attacked by a wild Pokemon over here.

Surprisingly, the response back was much stronger than it had been earlier; the Gardevoir must have moved closer. It also sounded terse and even a little frightened. <While you were nearly attacked, we were. Rezi was trimming the last section when one of the natives decided to attack. Neither of us have been able to calm it, nor can we put much of a scratch on it thanks to its typing.>

“And things were going so well too,” Makina grumbled out loud, shaking her head. Turning to Jessie, she explained the situation to the Trainer. “We need to hightail it to further down this path. My partners were working on a roadblock, but something decided to interrupt them. I don't like dragging you along, but it's not exactly safe for you to wander about alone as well.” Once all was said and done, both Trainer and Ranger rushed ahead.

It didn't take long to reach Aria and Rezi. Both Pokemon had known they were coming thanks to the former sensing their coming, and had guided their assailant so the group met halfway. What met them was an interesting sight; the Haxorus was currently goading a large red Pokemon to focus attention only on her, while Lia used support moves to keep Rezi up and ready to move.

Seeing that Makina and Jessie had arrived, the Gardevoir looked relieved. <Finally, you're here! Before our next expedition, mind teaching either of us a move that can actually deter Steel-types?>

The Ranger looked over at the wild Pokemon, silently cursing to herself. Scyther were rare enough as is, and to run into its evolved form was extremely bad luck. The insectlike Pokemon clicked its pincers together menacingly at Rezi, though gave a side glance as the two humans entered the scene.

“If you don't want to battle this Scizor, I'll have to step in,” Makina informed Jessie. While she could likely run off the angry Bug-type with another one of her Pokemon, there was a chance that the Trainer wished to own one of these creatures.

@Akinai ; tip - ... means transition. It'll make sense eventually. Also thank you you've been a great ranger!

Jessie tried her best to tip-toe past the monkey. Though the beast didn’t seem too interested in fighting them and seemed to be nodding off as they passed. Regardless, they weren’t in the clear yet, so she would have to stay on her feet until the Vigoroth had wandered far away. She kept a steady pace and followed her ranger.

Suddenly, Makina gasped. Jessie wondered what the matter was, but she noticed out of the corner of her eye that the Vigoroth was fuming. Huffing and puffing, the previously disinterested monkey charged forwards to Jessie and her ranger.

“Throw the Doll, now!” Makina exclaimed, but Jessie simply stood. Her jaw dropped and her arms turned to jelly as the Pokémon charged forwards.

“Just… throw it!” she thought to herself but her body wasn’t listening. The Vigoroth approached quicker and quicker until it was only a few short yards away.

“Why do I always have to do everything for you?”

An unnatural force filled Jessie’s body. It lifted her arm and lobbed the doll towards the Vigoroth just in time for it to turn away. It shut Jessie’s mouth, straightened her back, and turned her around. Jessie was being pulled around like a doll, and she could do nothing about it.

“Oh no…” Jessie tried to say, but her mouth wouldn’t budge. The demon from before had come back.

    ...

Jessie continued to fade in and out of consciousness as her mind tried to press away what had seized her mind and body. She caught small blurbs. A green and white woman. A red and black assassin. However, she never had complete control. Her mind might’ve been present, but it was still not in control.

“I would really appreciate it if you stopped. I’m not letting you go, at least until we’re out of here. Shut up and stay still, or I’ll hurt you,” came all the all-too-familiar booming voice.

“I… I thought you were gone…” Jessie said in a weak voice.

“Hah! Still as foolish as ever, my dear Jessica. No, I’m far from gone. Hiding was my best option, at least until I made it back here.”

“I… don’t… understand,” she said with great difficulty.

“You don’t have to. You just have to know that you won’t be returning to the real world any time soon. I quite like having a body, and I’m going to continue my search within the park. You prevented my escape last time, but you’ll be out of the question this time around. Just sit back and watch, darling. Just sit back and watch.”

“No! I can’t just stay here! You won’t do this to me!”

“It’s already done, Jessica. There’s nothing you can do about it.”

Jessie felt as if her mind had exploded. Agonizing pain seared through her body, and, even though Jessie knew she couldn’t be feeling any bodily harm due to her current state, she doubted she could withstand the pain. Still, her mind was motivated. Pushing through the fire, the pins and needles burrowing into her skin, Jessie pressed onwards.

There was a blast of light.

“…want to battle this Scizor, I'll have to step in,” Jessie heard after the light had died down, her eyes adjusting. She glanced down at herself. She was in control now. This was her body.

There was no time to explain. “Makina, we have to get out of the park now. I’ll take a picture to scare away the Scizor, but then we have to leave.” Acting promptly, she snagged the camera out of her bag and snapped a picture. The beast was scared by the flash of light and scurried back into the forest, but Jessie had already grabbed Makina’s hand and was running away. He was pushing, trying to gain control again, but Jessie pushed back harder.

After running several more feet, Jessie tripped on a tree stump. She let go for a split second, but that was all He needed. Jessie lost control of her mind, and He took over.

    ...

"Bitch. Now you don't even get to watch."

    Everything went black.
