    Ranger Chainy

    @Pman;

    ~~~~~
    Ryan took a moment to think, but it wasn't a long one. This Trainer gave off professional-level battling vibes, and in a tournament arena you didn't have very long to command your attacks. He darted forwards and quickly whispered something to his Pokemon. Generally getting this close to a battle was frowned upon, even here at the Park, but Trainers weren't usually children - if they got hurt it was their own damn fault. In fact, as a Park Elite, I had heard of a few cases where a Trainer had to end their run early and get choppered off the island due to injuries. Of course, a Ranger would never willingly allow this to happen, but accidents did happen, and sometimes stupidity played a large factor.
    I expected something to happen after Ryan backed away from his Metagross, but nothing did. I looked over at the Magneton and its eyes were narrowed, as if it expected a trick. Metagame didn't move, though. The Magneton appeared surprised, but it wasn't stupid. A bright white light started emitting from the centre of the Pokemon, and it grew in intensity until the shine could only be described as "blinding". I couldn't look straight at it, and so the only clue I had that the attack was beginning was the thunderous detonation. My neck swung my head towards Ryan's Metagross, and just before the painful brightness worked its way into my line of sight I saw Metagame raise a purple shield from underneath itself. I closed my eyes and heard a sizzling crackle that was no doubt caused by the attack making contact with the shield. When I felt it safe to do so, I opened my eyes and was impressed by what I saw.
    A black line of dust or ash drew a straight line from the Magneton to the Metagross. However, the line spread out in twin parabolas away from Metagame right before making contact, right where a soft purple haze was hovering in the air now. Metagame didn't look too worse for wear either, although I saw a couple of dents that weren't there previously. I looked over at the Magneton, and while it looked okay physically, I noticed that it was hovering much lower, and its eyelids were lowered, as if tired.
    "That must have been a Hyper Beam," I called out. "Now is the perfect time to counter and start the ball rolling in your favour!"
    Ryan was still running backwards, keeping his eye on Metagame, willing it not to move when he glanced up at the Magneton, noting a look of surprise in its eyes. Surely it could tell something was coming, maybe it wasn’t going to commit to an attack?
    Ryan highly doubted he’d see a long standoff and he wasn’t sure he wanted to wait around all day either. That was when the bright light started to build, coming from somewhere inside the Magneton, yet shining through its’ metallic skin. As the intensity increases, Ryan was forced to start shielding his eyes, then he had to turn away, increasing his speed as he knew something big was coming.
    As he was forced to dive for the ground, closing and shielding his eyes, before rolling into a tight ball to protect himself, Ryan heard an enormous crash that resounded through the surrounding area and felt a wave of heat was over his skin before a searing pain was felt in his right hand.
    Ryan had known that getting close to a Pokémon battle was foolish in the extreme but had hoped to get out of there in time but sadly had failed. Concern for Metagame overcame concern for his own wellbeing and he looked up to quickly check that his beloved Pokémon was still standing before he looked down at his hand.
    His right pinkie was completely missing. It was simply gone, he couldn’t see it anywhere, though thankfully, whatever that attack was had simply disintegrated his finger and cauterised the wound.
    That was when Chainy called out, “That must have been a Hyper Beam, now is the perfect time to counter and start the ball rolling in your favour.”
    Well, he was right, so Ryan gritted his teeth and stood up to properly survey what the hyper beam had done whilst calling out, “I’m glad I got out of there as quick as I did, I lost a finger in that attack and I wasn’t even that close.”
    Ryan held up his hand for Chainy to see so he could make his own evaluation, especially given that there was very little blood but there was a very severe burn. Hopefully the ranger would have something to heal humans, as well as the stuff he carried to heal Pokémon.
    Now Ryan carefully took in the scene in front of him, knowing that if he was quick, he might be able to get two attacks off after that Hyper Beam whilst the Magneton recovered from its exertion.
    The ground in front of the Magneton was covered in ash and the little grass found inside the old building was gone. The line of ash was broad and straight until just in front of Metagame where it split into a parabolic shape, some of the blast being diverted away from the hulking mass of metal standing there, looking slightly worse for wear.
    Ryan reacted quickly implementing the next part of his two part plan, “Metagame, get a reflect up quickly, that can buy us some time.”
    Metagame quickly went to work, not bothering to hide what it was doing this time and launching a sphere of pale blue light from its left foreleg which moved towards the glowing pink wall, looking a bit like a will-o-wisp before expanding suddenly, forming up into a blue-green wall behind the Light Screen.
    This new wall was going to reduce any damage by incoming physical attacks and thereby increase his chance of getting his Pokémon through this battle at decent health and not needing to use a potion on any of them.
    Knowing that he was fast running out of time to get another attack in, as the Magneton was clearly starting to move again, getting ready for whatever it was going to try next, Ryan ordered Metagame to “Try a bullet punch, quick as you can.”
    He could now only prey that his favourite Pokémon could land this fast and brutal attack before the Magneton could complete whatever it was trying to do.
    As Metagame raced forwards, doors seemed to appear in the walls in front of it, with hinges on opposite sides allowing the blue door to open towards the Metagross whilst the pink door opened away from it.
    The Metagross built up more and more speed as it raced through the now open doors, right foreleg raises as it moved on a collision course with the slow moving Magneton, the walls of light moving forwards, right on its tail.
    Ranger Chainy
    OOC: @Pman;
    ~~~~~

    Ryan didn't respond instantly, but when he did Chainy was struck dumb; “I’m glad I got out of there as quick as I did, I lost a finger in that attack and I wasn’t even that close.” He held up his hand, and it was clearly missing a finger. A few lines of blood were trailing down to his wrist from the neatly cauterized stump. I wasn't quite sure how this had happened - my guess was the Light Screen must have deflected some of the Hyper Beam's energy and Ryan had been unlucky enough for some of it to spill over his finger. I wouldn't have expected this to happen, but the energies that Pokemon used to battle were often unpredictable, especially when used on humans. For example, sometimes fire attacks caused intense burning, other times they simply knocked people back.

    I jerked out of my stunned silence and into action. A PokeBall appeared into my hand and I threw it towards Ryan. My Gallade appeared inside a blossom of glowing-white light. Usually Dual did not like being in his PokeBall, but he had been tired after a late-night training session and wanted to recuperate while being on-hand if I needed him. Well, I certainly needed him right now. If Boss found out that I'd let a Trainer get injured on my watch my arse would be handed to me, Elite Ranger or no.

    "Dual, our friend here just lost a finger. See what you can do with Wish," I called out. Dual nodded and held his hands on opposite sides of Ryan's stub. White light flared and blocked vision of Ryan's hand. I had occasionally used Dual's Wish to heal minor wounds, things like scrapes incurred by climbing and shallow cuts. It had never been used to recreate a finger before, to my knowledge. Dual used his telepathic abilities to impress wordlessly upon Ryan the importance of staying still.

    “Metagame, get a Reflect up quickly, that can buy us some time,” Ryan ordered. I couldn't detect any pain in Ryan's voice, so either he wasn't in any or - far more likely - he was apt at hiding pain.

    The Metagross started spinning a faint blue light with its front claws. The sphere flattened out into a blue-green square that quickly faded into near-opacity, hiding behind the pinkish Light Screen.

    When that was done, Ryan commanded a Bullet Punch. Metagame blurred forwards in a gray streak and slammed into the Magneton. The Electric-type clattered to the floor and made a whirring sound in protest. It slowly rose above the concrete floor, and when it did so yellow energy began to gather around the prongs on its magnets. They wound towards Metagame and around his hard body before latching onto the floor. It was pretty clear that the Metagross could still move, but it would be harder than normal, and those electrical anchors didn't look like they would detach any time soon.
