"Neon..." I read out loud as I was looking over the document of the trainer I was to take to Mt. Deckbi. He had some interesting Pokemon choices on his team; two of them we're weak against fire types. However, I've seen many people learn to get over their natural weaknesses; maybe Neon will surprise me.

After closing the document and logging off the National Park Database, I located the Pokemon Box Application. Mt. Deckbi, it would be very warm to say the least. I'd best make sure I'd have right Pokemon to defend both Neon and myself if the case arises. Wait whats this?

A warning popped up on the screen. It said: "Warning, Seismic Activity Reported at Mt. Deckbi. Proceed with caution."

Hmm, I guess I should be extra careful. I don't want to lose my first trainer...

I picked the Pokemon I would take with me and walked over to the Pokeball Transporter to switch out the Pokemon I had with me. It was such a stupid rule: only 6 Pokemon... I guess that now I was a official that I have to follow it.

I changed into warmer clothing, locked my room door, and walked to the reception desk.

"Jesse, your trainer will be here shortly," the young lady at the desk said to me. In front of her was the pack of supplies that was suggested for travel to the mountain.

I took out the Pokeball Bag designated to use for the Pokemon that the Trainer catches on the run. Then, I pulled out a Pokeball and threw it at the supply backpack. The ball cracked open and converted all the potions and pokedolls into energy. The ball returned to my hand. I took out my labeler and marked it "Supplies."

The receptionist looked at me funny. Carrying around a Pokeball full of supplies made more sense to me than a pack that will just weigh you down.

I walked towards the front door and sat down, waiting for Neon to arrive.

"I'm late. I'm late. I'm late!" complained Neon as he ran towards the Ranger Station. "I just had to take a 'short' nap, didn't I? Four hours is not a short nap!"

Neon kept mentally berating himself for oversleeping and having to rush to the Station. He wasn't too late altogether because of his makeshift speed, but his tardiness was still noticeable. Neon always hated being late, it was always his belief that if he made a commitment of any sort, he would keep it. Not showing up to a scheduled engagement was a big no-no, but breaking any sort of promise was taboo. And he had made a promise to be here, so not showing up wasn't an option.

Neon quickly rushed inside the door, whizzing past his Ranger altogether and going straight up to the receptionist. He quickly gathered his breath and began his long-winded apology.

"I'm really sorry, and I truly mean that. Like really really sorry. I am a little late and I hope you guys don't think poorly because of it. I was trying to get some rest so I could make it through my trip without and issues, and I accidentally over slept. This normally doesn't happen but-" At this Neon was cut off by a loud cough. He quickly turned around and glanced over the man he had run past on his way in. Now, after fully taking in the clothing of the man he realized that this was his Ranger. The man had a warm smile on his face.

As I checked my Poketch once again, the doors slid open with the sounds of hurried steps. A voice preceded the doors opening: "Four hours is not a short nap!"

In came rushing a boy, who from the chart revealed to be my trainer, Neon. He went straight up the receptionist, catching his breath.

"I'm really sorry, and I truly mean that. Like really really sorry. I am a little late and I hope you guys don't think poorly because of it. I was trying to get some rest so I could make it through my trip without and issues, and I accidentally over slept. This normally doesn't happen but-"

I decided to get up and stop him before the reception got scared and called security, and Mr Bob wasn't the friendliest guard. I gave a little cough before Neon stopped and looked back.

"Hey Neon, my name is Jesse, and I'll be your ranger today. We can talk more once we get to the mountain, and this is how we'll do it." I shook his hand and started leading him towards a Deus Machina Machine. "We'll be taking the Teleporter to the post closest to Mt. Deckbi. It should be faster than flying there, since it's like the other side of the Park."

I opened the door to the telephone booth-like Machine for Neon and myself. We got in the surprisingly large space, and I hit the button marked "Deckbi." A rushing tingling feeling washed over us as we were converted into energy and transported miles across the digital world. My older brother, Prose, told me that the technology was still restricted to only a few clients, since Silph Co. don't want the invention being used for evil.

We arrived at the Ranger Post, and the temperature rose about 15 degrees as the heat from the volcano hit our skin on reanimation. I was glad I was dressed appropriately.

We stepped out of the teleporter and into a smaller station resembling the Ranger Station. I noticed however that the place looked eerily deserted.

"Something isn't right here..." I said cautiously. I walked towards the door leading outside and saw that one of the doors was off its hinges. "What the...?" I started before being interrupted.

All of a sudden the floor started to shake. I was reminded of the warning I received in the mail. "Grab onto something!" I yelled as I ducked towards the built-in benches to the side.

Neon seemed to handle himself well; this was certainly not what I thought what would happen on my first run.

The quake subsided, and I got up. "You ok?" I asked Neon. The door was completely gone as a small crack pierced through the ground underneath it. I jumped over it, moving outside. The mountain seemed normal, so it wasn't erupting, but that might not be the case for a bit. We have to be cautious and quick. Which reminded me: "Come out, Punpun!"

Out of the Premier ball I through out, my Lavender Lopunny jumped out, sparkles erupting along side it. He twirled around before turning back towards me and Neon.

"Hey, Jesse. Whatcha need?" he asked.

"Can you help me sense when another quake is going to occur? We can't afford to be here if the volcano explodes."

    "Sure thing boss."

I turned back to Neon. He was probably confused. Turns out that from an early age that I could understand the Pokemon languages as if it were English. "Punpun is going to use Foresight in order to predict quakes. He's pretty good at it, so there's not need to worry. I hope."

We walked towards the mountain and the scenery changed into rock formations and canyons. It would still be a while before we reached the actual mountain. Eventually we hit an interesting formation that I didn't recognize. It ventured off the path I was told to take, but it seemed to go in the direction of the mountain, while the regular path would wind us around.

"Hey Neon, would you like to try taking this path? It seems like a shortcut, but it might be dangerous. We could always continue along the path designated. It's up to you."

(Finally got around to doing this)

"Hey Neon, my name is Jesse, and I'll be your ranger today. We can talk more once we get to the mountain, and this is how we'll do it. We'll be taking the Teleporter to the post closest to Mt. Deckbi. It should be faster than flying there, since it's like the other side of the Park." The next series of events were kind of a rush. He shook Jesse's hand, and then was led to a large machine. Before he could even question what the machine was, he was already being led out of it in a completely different location. Neon managed to gather that they were now at Mt. Deckbi, mostly because of his context clues. Jesse had said something and pressed a button in the machine, and now he was approaching another ranger post while he coughed from the soot that lingered in the air.

Neon immediately began to feel the rise in heat. "Wow, how did I miss that?" he mumbled. Just as his mind finally caught up and he got a chance to look around, he noticed how empty the station was. And as if some greater force had gotten angered that he could understand what was happening, the ground began shaking.

    'Great, what now?' thought Neon.

    "Grab onto something!" yelled Jesse.

Neon could instantly tell what was happening, an seismic activity. It wasn't his first time so he stumbled his way over to a chair and held on, just to make sure he had something solid that could assure him he wasn't the things shaking. As the quake calmed down, Neon quickly got his wits about him.

    "You ok?" asked Jesse.

"Yeah, been through a few of those in my day." replied Neon.

They both then started off for the Mountain. Along the way, Jesse let out his Lopunny and told it to monitor the seismic activity. While following the path, Jesse stopped and noticed a side path that seemed to be more direct towards the mountain. It seemed to be off the given path and could have some dangers to face, but was definitely faster.

"Hey Neon, would you like to try taking this path? It seems like a shortcut, but it might be dangerous. We could always continue along the path designated. It's up to you." asked Jesse.

"I'd like to try this path, from what I can tell, Steel pokemon like the caves more and they are my ultimate goal." answered Neon, "maybe we'll run into a Nosepass or Rhyhorn along the way, from what I hear they don't like regularly traveled paths."

And with that they both set off on the side path.

Ah a Steel Fan; I don’t run into many of them too often. So, we headed into the scar-shaped path in the side of the canyon. The path started out wide enough to fit a Snorlax, but now I had to start squeezing a bit. The light from the sun started to fade as we ventured deeper into the new path.

“There’s some seismic activity occurring up ahead!” Punpun stammered as he looked further on with his Foresight.

Shit… This wasn’t good: we were stuck in a very small area about to be hit by an earthquake.

“Neon, I think we’re…” I started, but Punpun interrupted me.

“Jesse, it’s small and concentrated. I don’t think it’s the volcano.”

Just then, the wall in front of us started to quake. Cracks started appearing, behind them a light was shining through. I heard a faint cry from the wall: “Digging, digging, digging.”

The wall crumbled down revealing a big chamber lit by the red hot glow of lava below us. The path we were on led to a more spacious rock platform that rested above the lava. Above us was a field of stalactites, a few that didn’t seem stable enough to hold in another earthquake. Two more paths led away from this central island into tunnels that led to who-knows-where.

As we stepped into the chamber, I saw small brown shapes popping in and out of the sides of the walls. Being distracted, I tripped of something squishy. I caught myself with my hands against the coarse ground, thinking how lucky I was that I was wearing gloves or else my hands would be cut up pretty bad.

“Haha, stupid ranger!” A voice laughed at me.

I looked and saw that the “rock” I tripped over was really a small Diglett. I sat up, looked at Neon and asked, “What do you think? Interested in a Diglett?

Neon and Jesse took off down the unmarked path, in hopes of getting to the later caves faster. It led them to a scar-shaped path in the side of the nearby canyon. It started out pretty wide, but narrowed quickly. Just as they both reached the point where they would have had to squeezed through to reach the other end. The ground started shaking. Knowing their surroundings and what the shaking most likely meant, Neon shared a brief glimpse of fear with Jesse.

"Neon, I think we're..." rambled Jesse, before being interrupted by a constant shuffle coming from the wall.

Before Neon could fully grasp what had happened, the wall next to them began bursting with brown dots and it crumbled into nothingness, revealing a large open room. The room had a dark red glow to it, presumably from the molten lava that decorated its scenery. The temperature outside had been hot, but this new heat was completely unbearable. Neon began his walk up through the path that had cleared, being careful not to take a wrong step. As Neon reached the big open platform in the center of the new molten room, he quickly felt that something was wrong; Jesse wasn't anywhere nearby. He frantically looked around, not finding any sign of his ranger.

Neon then heard what sounded like a giggle, and to his amazement he saw a Diglett giggling on the ground with Jesse face first in the dirt in front of him. It was hard for Neon to stifle his own laugh, but he managed to cover it up to the best of his own abilities. As Jesse got up, he finally took notice of the Diglett.

"What do you think? Interested in a Diglett?" asked Jesse.

"Definitely. Dugtrio would be a huge addition to my arsenal. Sure, it's no Steel Pokemon, but that doesn't mean it isn't pretty cool itself," as Neon finished he reached for a Pokeball on his belt. "Come on out Gastrodon!" With that, Neon released his aquatic Pokemon. "Your water should be plenty for this particular opponent. Just be careful not to hit too much of the lava, I know there are types that explode upon impact with water."

"Definitely. Dugtrio would be a huge addition to my arsenal. Sure, it's no Steel Pokemon, but that doesn't mean it isn't pretty cool itself." Neon reached down to his belt and picked out a Pokeball. "Come on out Gastrodon! Your water should be plenty for this particular opponent. Just be careful not to hit too much of the lava, I know there are types that explode upon impact with water."

Out came his water- and ground-typed Pokemon, an excellent choice to battle a ground-type like Diglett. The green and blue sea slug Pokemon happily bounced around her head at the end of her long neck. She looked excited and ready to go.

Punpun helped me up from the ground, and I rushed over towards Neon. I didn't want to get in the way of the battle.

Punpun whispered in my ear: "It doesn't look like another big earthquake would hit for another few hours."

Great, that means that Neon didn't have to rush, at least for now. "Alright, Neon," I yelled, "do your best!"

Diglett didn't waste anytime and sunk into the ground quickly. At first it looked like it was going to use Dig, but it quickly resurfaced, using the top of its head to throw a barrage of mud towards Gastrodon.

"It's using Mud Bomb, Neon," I said, waiting to see how Neon dealt with the incoming attack.

Diglett dove underground in what appeared to be a Dig attack. Neon noticed this immediately, and perhaps reacted too soon.

"Gastrodon leap into the air! He can't hit you from the ground if you aren't there."

As Gastrodon obeyed and leaped into the air, Diglett resurfaced immediately with a smug look on its face. Its feint has worked perfectly. It then started picking up globs of mud around it and began to toss them at Gastrodon.

"It's using Mud Bomb, Neon," said Jesse.

Neon had to think quickly. Gastrodon was in midair so it couldn't dodge in an easy manner and the mud bombs were closing in fast.

"Gastrodon, use Mirror Coat!" ordered Neon.

Gastrodon began to glow an orangish yellow and as the mud bombs connected, they were instanly repelled back at the Diglett.

Gastrodon was in a compromising position. Neon ordered it to jump into the air, but his reaction was too quick.

Quickly recovering, Neon ordered, "Gastrodon, use Mirror Coat!"

Gastrodon was lightly hit by the speedier mud, but being part ground-type itself, didn't have too much to worry about. Gastrodon began to shine with an orange-yellow hue and the mud blobs were refelected off the Mirror Coat.

Diglett was hit, and its head banged against the back part of its hole. He was hit one after another with its own attack. After the reflected Mud Bomb stopped, Diglett looked pretty bruised.

It dug underneath the ground again, and the small island started to shake around us. Cracks started appear, glowing with a bright gold color. The cracks surrounded the still falling Gastrodon and began collapsing together, ready to hit Gastrodon.

OCC: Since Neon refereed to the Diglett as a "he," I'm going to assume that its a male.

    OOC: Male is good.

Gastrodon's technique was a success. Most of the mud pellets had been reflected back at the Diglett and it took a significant hit. It all worked out, except for one problem. Diglett had recovered quickly; too quickly. It immediately burrowed underground and started its next attack.

The island below them started to shake and cracks began to form all over it. The cracks spread out and surrounded Gastrodon, glowing a bright orange color as they did. They were preparing to converge on Gastrodon, just as it would hit the ground.

"Gastrodon, use Stockpile!" yelled Neon in hopes of prepping his Gastrodon for the hit. "As soon as he rears his ugly head, be ready to teach him who's boss with a Water Pulse."

Gastrodon sucked in air and began to glow purple directly before the attack connected. The pieces of earth collapsed on Gastrodon. As the smoke cleared, Gastrodon was forming a giant blue ball of water to launch at Diglett. The ball slowly finished forming and launched at Diglett.

OOC: Taking over now. (And copying Sorocroto's style. Looks neat. XD)
Jesse received a call on her ranger gear, and a loud female voice boomed, and even Neon could hear it.

"Hey, Jesse, we need you here! Some idiot set off an avalanche in Mount Oktori! We need to free some people from the rubble! I'll send a back-up ranger over ASAP. In fact, I think she's already on the way. So HURRY!"

Soon, a woman came along in a Fearow, who flew in such a way that it could swiftly cut through the air in the cavern without incident. Jesse returned Punpun and hung on to the Fearow whilst the woman dropped off into the cavern. The Fearow disappeared into the skies, heading towards Mount Oktori.

"Hi, I'm you new ranger, Timpeni. Your name's Neon, yes?" I said as the attack struck the unwary Diglett on the back of its head, causing the mud that was protecting the Diglett to get washed off, exposing it to the heat and light. Its thin skin was not suited to the surface, and it quickly dove into the ground.

"It looks pretty weak now, I say you quickly capture the moment it pops up again." I told Neon.

Suddenly, the ground started to shake violently, and a large rock fell on Gastrodon, hurting it badly.

"This isn't a normal quake. It's a level 8 Magnitide!" I yelled as the move shook the whole mountain. It was only after some time the rumbling ceased.

(OOC: Thank you for taking over =])

Neon heard a booming voice come from over in Jesse's direction. He gave a quick glance over to see that Jesse was being summoned for some important mission. He wondered who was going to guide him now, but realized now wasn't the time to think about that. There was a pokemon here that needed catching.

Gastrodon's Water Pulse had hit marvelously, connecting with the unsuspecting Diglett. Although, the Diglett wasn't through just yet. It dove underground and gave one last attack to be remembered by. The cove they were all in started shaking and several rocks started to fall. One particularly large one started falling right down at Neon, but Gastrodon bravely took the blow in Neon's place.

"Gastrodon, thank you for that. Now take a breather and use Recover. I'll catch this little guy," encouraged Neon. Gastrodon started glowing, as Neon grabbed a Parkball from his pack and tossed it at the now emerging Diglett. And with that, Neon noticed his new ranger. It seemed as though she was expecting an answer of some sort.

"Oh hey. Sorry if I didn't hear you earlier. I kind of get really into it when I battle," Neon rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment.

    OOC: 108% Chance. Wow. XD
We'll just do a few NBPs before I get your rolls.

"No problem. Since you probably didn't hear me, my name's Timpeni." I said as the ball shook.

    Once.

    Twice.

    Thrice... blink!

"Congrats! You caught it." I grabbed the Parkball and put it in my sling bag, but not before I encoded Neon's DNA into the Park Ball's data. That way the Diglett was officially caught by Neon.

"So Jesse brought you here? Well, be prepared for lots of sudden things happening. Although, I think I'd better look out. Most of the time it's me getting hurt." I laughed, but I knew it was true.

Squashed by a Vileplum... zapped by a Zapdos egg... hit by a Porygon... and I thought the ranger was supposed to be protecting the trainer?

I sighed and asked Neon something. "There's a secret path up the mountain only I know. You might encounter some really strong Pokemon higher up. But the higher it is, the more chance we'll also be swept away by magma if it erupts... er... anyway, so you want to go higher up or keep on exploring this cave?"

"Nice to meet you Timpeni. My name is Neon," greeted Neon. Just as he finished his introduction, he heard his parkball click.

"Congrats, you caught it!" exclaimed Timpeni. Neon proceeded to get his DNA matched to the pokeball. Pretty simple, really. Just a prick of the thumb and they have everything they need. No pain at all.

"So Jesse brought you here? Well, be prepared for lots of sudden things happening. Although, I think I'd better look out. Most of the time it's me getting hurt." Timpeni laughed, but Neon could tell there was more truth to her words than she let on.

"Well, no need to worry. I'm sure we will both make it out of here safe and sound."

Timpeni let out a sigh. "There's a secret path up the mountain only I know. You might encounter some really strong Pokemon higher up. But the higher it is, the more chance we'll also be swept away by magma if it erupts... er... anyway, so you want to go higher up or keep on exploring this cave?"

"Really? That is awesome! I'm sure there are so many rare Steel Pokemon up there! Maybe a Nosepass or an Onix. Or even a Rhyhorn! Now I'm really excited!" Neon had seemed to have missed the words of warning Timpeni had to share. "Well, Timpeni, what are you waiting for? Let's go! Lead the way."

    "Um... okay."

I grabbed the Pokeball hanging on the necklace I wore and a Vaporeon, or Mimi, as I call her, came out, and apparently was very annoyed by the environment she was in now. She looked at the wall and understood immediately why I called her out.

She used her Water Gun on the walls of the cave to look for the hidden circle that was the key to the secret passage. After a bit of spraying, a protruding circle revealed itself on the walls. Mimi braced herself, and her breathe suddenly became icy. She shot out what was supposed to be a water gun, but due to the temperature in her mouth, it froze instantly and became and Aurora Beam which struck the circle.

The circle glowed blue and the wall moved out of the way, slowly but surely, revealing some crumbling stairs. I looked at them and sweated, but it wasn't from the heat.

"They look... even worse than I remembered. Are you sure you want to go up this?" I said. Sure, the ancients must have been smart to build a device not even we can now, but I don't think its wise to build it in a volcano. They aren't Spartacus or anything... or are they? I shivered at the thought.

"Um... okay," muttered Timpeni in response to Neon's enthusiasm.

Neon watched as she released a Vaporeon from her necklace and expertly commanded it to find the fabled path. It released a spray of water, searching the walls for the protruding rock that would indicate the entrance to the passage. As soon as the Vaporeon found the entrance, it readied another blast of water. Except, water didn't come out. Vaporeon had cooled the insides of its mouth to the point where the water became semi-frozen and released it in a brilliant beam that shone with thousands of colors. It hit the circle on the wall and appeared to have no effect. Then suddenly, the wall began to give and it crumbled.

The wall was no replaced with a stairwell, perhaps a little too well made to be inside a volcano. It was still pretty destroyed and decrepit, but the steps were cut pretty exact. They looked sturdy enough for a few more travelers, even if they could give out at any moment.

"They look... even worse than I remembered. Are you sure you want to go up this?" asked Timpeni, with more than a little worry in her voice.

"Yeah, we will be fine. I use to go spelunking with my dad back home. This is just like that... in a weird sort of way," replied Neon, not losing any vigor.

They both started off up the stairwell, cruising along pretty easily at first, but gradually the light started to fade and the smell of sulfur became even more prominent.

Neon coughed, "Jeez. Never had to go through a sulfur cloud this bad before."

Neon put his sleeve up to his mouth to act as a filter for his air. It wasn't very effective, but it was better than nothing.

I grabbed a handkerchief from my bag and wrapped it around my face, and handed one to Neon, who seemed to be using his sleeve.

"Here, have one. They gave them to me in case of encountering a sulfur cloud- after all, it is poisonous." I said casually, though I might have frightened Neon a bit.

After walking for a minute or two more, the sulfur cloud began to clear, and the end of the stairway was in sight. I peered up and saw the flat top we were on.

    "Ah, okay. Come up Neon!"

We were on a high hill right under a volcano, and the land stretched as far as the eye can see. I spotted the cave where a Steelix almost crushed every bone in my body during training. I shuddered and pointed towards the cave entrance.

"Neon, if you want to get a steel Pokemon we better get into the cave. There are Rapidash here and during training I got hurled up by one and dropped of the hill, avoiding death by someone catching me the the tongue of a Lickitung. Anyway, we just... better get inside."

Neon coughed a few more times as they got to the heavier parts of the sulfur cloud. Struggling to keep his breathing a healthy rate, he tried using both sleeves. That seemed as though it would be enough, until Timpeni had a better idea.

"Here, have one. They gave them to me in case of encountering a sulfur cloud- after all, it is poisonous," said Timpeni as she handed a handkerchief to Neon. He shivered a little at the thought of how much sulfur he had already taken in. He quickly shook off the idea though, because he felt fine.

Slowly they cleared through the cloud, and found their way to the top of the steps. At the top, the ground flanned and opened up to a plateau. Several pokemon moved around the clearing calmly enjoying their environment. Across from the entrance they just came through, Neon and Timpeni noticed a cave. Timpeni shivered at the thought of one of her practice runs and the encounter she had with a Steelix.

"Neon, if you want to get a steel Pokemon we better get into the cave. There are Rapidash here and during training I got hurled up by one and dropped of the hill, avoiding death by someone catching me the the tongue of a Lickitung. Anyway, we just... better get inside."

Neon gave her a look of compassion. "Sure thing. Honestly, all of these pokemon you keep mentioning sound wonderful. The cave looks mighty dark though. I hope you brought a flashlight!" joked Neon.

They both entered the cave and looked around. It seemed to continue forever. Their were drawings on some spots of the walls that gave slight directions to make sure you didn't get lost. As they got further in, Timpeni brought out a flashlight and they used it to help find the helpful guide signs on the walls.

They ended up coming upon a divide in the path with two seperate guide signs that seemed to indicate the same thing. Neon looked at it with confusion. "Hmmm... I wonder what this means?"

I finally found a flashlight which (thankfully) had batteries.

"Cool. The first trainer I brought, I forgot my flashlight and almost got eaten by a Manectric... er, long story." I said when I saw the curious look on Neon's face. I shone the flashlight on two guide signs which apparently looked the same.

"Hmmm... I wonder what this means?"

I noticed small indents under the large symbols. I looked closer and realized they were Unown letters. I ushered Neon over to look.

"Hm... okay... this one says if we go this way we will die a horrible and painful death from a trap set. Basically, we're screwed if we go this way. The other one says," I shone my flashlight on it. "You will die even more painfully. Wait, what?"

I looked at Neon and shone my light on the two passages. I wracked my brain for the correct path, and it hit me.

    Literally.

Mimi forced herself out of her ball, after feeling a strange compulsion to do so, and performed Aurora Beam on the ceiling. The ceiling was slotted away, and a ladder came down, crashing onto my head. I gave a small "Ow" and forced myself up, getting the dirt of my head.

"Thanks, Mimi. Now, back in your ball." I said to my Pokemon, and in a bright flash of light she was summoned back in. I looked at the ladder. It seemed... er... sturdy enough. I looked at Neon and asked him whether we should go up.

"Hm... okay... this one says if we go this way we will die a horrible and painful death from a trap set. Basically, we're screwed if we go this way. The other one says you will die even more painfully. Wait, what?"

Neon and Timpeni shared a look. They both knew that either path would lead them to their doom. So they both thought about this turn of events for a little. Then, just as unexpectedly as the guide sign's true meaning, Vaporeon forced itself out of its ball so that it could fire an aurora beam at the ceiling. The multicolored beam lit up the cave in a swirl of color, and hit the ceiling with a loud boom. The rock had now cleared and a ladder had fallen down right into the back of Timpeni's head.

"Ouch! Are you alright?" asked Neon with genuine concern in his voice.

Timpeni quickly picked herself up, wiped off the dirt from her head, and gave Neon a nod to indicate that she was alright.

"Thanks, Mimi. Now, back in your ball." said Timpeni as she returned her Vaporeon to its ball.

After the flash of the pokeball subsided, both Neon and Timpeni got a good look at the ladder that had come down. It was in pretty bad shape. Much of the wood appeared to be singed from the heat, and most of it was cracked. Still, it did look safe enough for a
    few more uses.

"Well Neon, do you want to go up?" asked Timpeni as she pointed to the ladder.

"Sure thing. Not much of a choice anyways, both the paths in front lead to traps, and I probably wouldn't be able to find my way back out of the cave," responded Neon.

So they both started their climb up the ladder. There was a light all the way at the top of the ladder and they used this to gauge exactly how far they had left to climb.

As they were about halfway up the ladder, Neon lost his grip on one of the pieces and he fell. He quickly grabbed onto the lower holdings, only to find that he had cut his
hand quite a bit on a few of the cracks.

"Well, that certainly isn't good." commented Neon.

"Don't worry about it. I always bring plenty of extra medical supplies because of my tendency to get hurt. I'll give you some as soon as we get to the top of the ladder."

    "Cool, thanks."

With that they continued up the ladder and finally got to the top. Both of their eyes took a second to adjust to the new light that engulfed them.
