It was a hot summer day. I mean brutal. I sat in my office sweating. The little mini-fan that they gave us rangers was not enough when the temperature outside was 100 degrees and rising. It felt like Mt. Deckbi during a heatwave, or Cinnabar Island when the volcano erupted.

I rummaged through my desk for a pen and some paper. I was gonna write a heavily worded letter to the warden to supply our office with central air conditioning. I was just about to started when my Browser beeped. I picked it up and read it to see why it had beeped. The flashing notification on the screen read:

NEW TRAINER. PLEASE REPORT TO MAIN GATE.

I little graphic of someone standing at a gate flashed constantly. I was always happy to take a ranger through the park, but what really caught my eye was the fact that the trainer wanted to go on Mt. Oktori. I pressed a button to delete the message and quickly proceeded to the gate.

There was a kid waiting in the waiting area about the same age as I was. He had a long nose, pointy ears and looked a bit tall for his age. He had a sort of frail, skinny body and wore typical trainer clothing: loose and comfortable to travel in.

"Hi," I said to the trainer. "I'm Dee. What's your name?"

"Hi, my name's Near," I responded, well noticing how amazing Dee's muscles were. I proceeded to walk up to Dee and shake his hand well smiling. 'Damn his hand is strong' I thought to myself. Dee seemed to be enjoying the attention, I noticed that he was blushing slightly. I put on my jacket, it was blue, pink, and orange. My mom had bought it for me, without asking me for my opinion, I thought that it was ridiculous. Hopefully Dee would find it cool. "I'm ready to go to the Mt. Oktori now, thank you for taking me."

Near was happy to be going to Mt. Oktori. After we shook hands, I lead him to the area where we could use the teleport. I was ready to get out of this intense heat wave, so an instantaneous teleportation would have been perfect.

When we stepped onto the platform, I placed my Browser in front of the scanner. The teleport scrambled our molecules and instantly shot them to the outpost at Mt. Oktori. The post was in the middle of a beach. A family consisting of Walrein, Sealeo and Spheal was playing nearby. I decided not to bother them. The little ones were at a critical point in their life where they needed parental care, and they could be put in danger if I separated them.

We continued walking towards the looming ice-covered mountain in the distance. It was bright and early. Snow was falling. The sun was still rising. The mountain peak blocked off the middle of the sun, but the light still got through.

“So, are you here for a certain Pokémon?” I asked Near. The park was home to just about every Pokémon species in existence. Chances were, if you came here for a certain Pokémon, you’d find it.

Dee led me to the teleport area, and we teleported to Mt. Oktori. The process sent chills through my body as I was transported from one place to another nearly instantly. The area looked extremely nice, although I was quite warm in my jacket. I could see a towering mountain, with snow-cloaked peaks in the distance. Dee asked me if I was looking for any Pokemon in particular. I thought about it for a minute before deciding how amazing it would be to find a cute little Sneasel on my journey, like a blue plushie, which I could cuddle with whenever I was lonely. I also thought of how horrible looking Smoochum and Jynx were, they were absolutely hideous. "As I matter of fact, I'd love it if I was able to find a Sneasel!" I answered, maybe slightly to enthusiasticly. I proceeded to spray my family repellent all around us, pop a Sneasel disc into my disc player and let it perform the wonderful cry of a Sneasel. Hopefully it would attract one.

As soon as we made it to the entrance to Mt. Oktori, Near sprayed some Smoochum repellant and started to play a Sneasel voice disk. I could tell that the guy most have hated Smoochum, but loved Sneasel. I waited a while to see if a Sneasel would come. Unfortunately, nothing came.

“Sorry about that,” I said. “But hey, you still have 4 more tries.”

I walked off and continued towards the mountain with Near and Luxray following.

“Maybe we’ll have a better chance of finding a Sneasel if we went into the cave network there.”

I pointed in the direction of a cave at the base of the mountain. I knew that Sneasel loved to live in caves and paint on the cave walls. In fact, there was a cave in Hoenn that was home to hundreds of Sneasel.

I led the trainer off to the cave. If we didn’t find any Sneasel there, we would at least find some kind of good mountain-dwelling Pokémon there.

Dee led me into the caves the ran through the depth of Mt. Oktori. Even though I didn't get to see a Sneasel right away, I didn't want to give up my hope, and if by chance I don't see any Sneasel at all, at least I'll be able to get some other cool Pokemon that lived in these caves. They were quite dark, and I was glad that Dee was with me, he seemed like he would be able to protect me if anything went really wrong. I stayed silent as to not scare off any Pokemon. Then I played a Sneasel disk once again.

We entered the cave to see if there were more Sneasel in the area. Near played his Sneasel Voice Disk again. The sound of a Sneasel crying out played throughout the forest. I could hear echoes returning back to us. Surely, a Sneasel will come this time, I thought to myself.

I started to hear some approaching footsteps. I led the trainer up closer to see what it was. It turned out to be a Bagon who happened to be walking in the direction opposite us. We were bound to cross paths eventually.

It may not have been a Sneasel, but I knew the trainer had to appreciate a Bagon. Bagon evolved into the pseudo-legendary Salamence, which was a great ally in battle. If it were me, I would jump at the chance to battle a Bagon; however, I couldn’t make decisions for the trainer. He would have to make his own.

“So, do you want to try and capture a Bagon?” I asked Near, who was still playing the Sneasel Voice Disk. The Bagon continued to come in our direction. I wondered where it was going that it hadn’t yet noticed us.

There was a Bagon walking towards us. Dee asked if I wanted it, "No" I whispered quickly. I wasn't intrested in it, so I looked around the cave for someplace to hide. I couldn't see anything close-by where I could hide. That was until I noticed a crack inside the wall to my west. It wasn't big but I'm sure Dee and I could fit in it. I gestured to Dee to go inside so that I could follow him in and try to hide. After I was in simply waited to see if the Bagon would move away or not. As I didn't want to alert it I refrained from playing my handy disc player.

(OOC: Yesterday's forum blackout put a damper on my flow. ^^;)

After I asked him if he wanted to battle the Bagon, Near replied with a quick “no” and proceeded to try and hide within an indentation in the cave wall. He suggested that I hide with him, but I knew that it probably wasn’t necessary.

With me being a Ranger and learning how to study a Pokémon to determine how its nature, I could tell that this particular Bagon was very stubborn by the way it was looking towards us. The thing is, it wasn’t looking directly at us, but looking behind us. This meant that the Pokémon actually had no interest in battling with Near, and had he tried to start a battle with the Pokémon, it probably would have shrugged it off and left.

The Bagon got closer. When it was right beside me, I nodded as if to say “hello.” The Pokémon looked at me, and then looked back in the direction that it was going. I turned around and watched as it went to the other end of the tunnel and walked outside towards the coastline. I was almost offended at being ignored.

“Okay, the coast of clear,” I said. “You can come out now Bagon’s gone. I watched as the trainer slowly emerged from the crevasse in the side of the cave wall.

"So, shall we continue looking for Sneasel?" I asked when he had completely emerged from his hiding spot.

The Bagon eventually left. Dee asked me if I would like to keep looking for a Smeargle. "I would like to keep looking for a Sneasel," I responded. I didn't want to get lost in the network of caves so I wanted to wait for Dee to lead me. It was quite dark, and I was scared of the big bad bogeyman. It always kept me up at night too. So sometimes I would be very tired. When I started to get restless I asked Dee, as I played my Sneasel voice disc once again, "May we continue going through the cave now?"

Near was ready to continue through the cave, so I signaled for him to follow and we continued on our way. He pulled out his Disc Player and started to play the Sneasel Voice Disk again. He really had his mind set on capturing a Sneasel, but I couldn’t really blame him. Sneasel was a very good Pokemon. It had high speed and a great movepool. Plus, it evolved into a Weavile, which was one of the most used Pokemon in competitive battling.

We continued down the dark tunnel, the voice disk blaring loudly. I stopped suddenly when I heard something. After ordering Luxray to use Flash to illuminate the cave, I looked forward and saw a small black Pokémon that looked sort of like a demonic weasel. IA red feather seemed to be growing out of its left ear. Three more feathers seemed to grow in place of a tail.

“There’s your Sneasel,” I said to Near, pointing him in the direction of the Sharp Claw Pokémon. “I assume you want to battle it.”

“Finally,” I shouted in excitement at the Sneasel standing there. I reached down to my side carefully selecting which of my precious Pokemon I would send out to fight against the magnificent Sneasel. I pondered on the thought for a moment, trying to think quickly. I remembered that Sneasel was extremely weak to fighting, and chose my Breloom to send out. I grabbed the Pokeball off my belt, and tossed it. The bright green Pokemon emerged from the small ball, ready to fight. I wondered how something could fit into such a small space. “Breloom I want you to rush up to Sneasel with Mach Punch, and then send glistening Spores at the Sneasel with your tail, so that it will fall asleep,” I commanded. Breloom’s fist started to glow a bright white, filling the cave with more light then even the amazing flash of Dee’s Luxray. He rushed swiftly at the cute little Sneasel then proceeded to shoot out Spores from its plant like tail. I felt bad for doing something so cruel to such an innocent creature, especially one that was so cuddly. I watched and waited to see what Sneasel would do in response, and to see if it Breloom would be able to make contact with it.

    vs. Sneasel BP1

Near was happy to have finally found the Sneasel that he was searching for. He was so happy, in fact, that he shouted out “Finally!” at the top of his lungs. Of course, his shouting was amplified by the small space of the cave. It echoed continuously, alerting the Sneasel who had previously been scratching at the cave wall.

Near had released his Breloom and commanded it to attack by using Mach Punch to get up close and Spore to put the Pokémon to sleep; however, he didn’t know that Sneasel already knew that we were here because of his failure to contain his excitement.

Breloom rushed up at the Pokémon, and in an instant was in front of Sneasel; however, he was met by a big chunk of ice. Sneasel had countered the increased-priority attack Mach Punch with its own increased-priority attack, Ice Shard. The attack was super-effective against Near’s Pokémon.

The mushroom Pokémon flew backwards the attack pushed him in the opposite direction, towards us. He had failed to initiate his Spore attack. The Pokémon fell down at our feet, obviously hurt a bit by the attack, but now too much.

Immediately after Breloom had fallen, Sneasel lunged towards the fallen Pokémon with her right arm drawn backwards. The claw on her right arm started to glow and then changed into metal. When Sneasel was at the right distance, she would slash Breloom with her metal claw.

Sneasel was rushing towards my Breloom well using metal claw. I didn't think it would do to much damage so I decided I would let Breloom take a hit, so that it could counter after. "Breloom stay where you are and after it hits you hit it well it isn't expecting it, then proceed to Drain Punch Sneasel so that you can take some of it's energy for yourself."

It seemed like ages well i watched to see if Breloom would be able to pull it off. As Sneasel attacked Breloom something happened, and dust flew all around, so I couldn't see what happened to Breloom, and got quite nervous for it's safety.

    vs. Sneasel BP2

Sneasel rushed in on Breloom with his arm drawn back. The claw on his arm turned into steel as he lunged towards Breloom, pulling his arm forward to strike. Breloom stood his ground since his trainer had commanded him to take the damage and counter using Drain Punch.

Out of nowhere, while Sneasel was at his weakest, Breloom punched the Pokémon in the abdominal area. Both Pokémon started to glow as some of the damage that Sneasel took converted into energy that was absorbed by Breloom.

The blow knocked Sneasel back. He landed on the ground, but sprung right back on his feet. Suddenly, Sneasel split into four copies of himself. My first thought was that he was using Double Team, but I soon realized that these copies looked tangible. The four Sneasels rushed towards Breloom, ready to fight it 4-on-1.

I recognized the attack as Beat Up. This was my first time seeing the attack. Because of this, I was in awe at the sight of it. It was an amazing attack, which probably took skill and dedication to master. I wondered how Near and his Breloom would counter such a unique attack.

One of the copies had already closed on the Mushroom Pokémon, ready to kick it. The others would follow one after the other with their own combos.

'Wow!' I thought to myself, seeing the Sneasel multiply. Some expressions came to mind, when I was thinking of how to counter the Sneasel. One being 'Fight fire with fire,' another, 'If you can't beat them, join them.' With that thought I shouted out at Breloom, 'Double Team!' Breloom glowed, then 12 Brelooms were surrounding the four Sneasels. Hopefully it would confuse the Sneasels letting Breloom charge up a powerful Focus Punch, hopefully able to destroy the Sneasel copies in one critical hit. 'Focus Punch' I shouted, with adrenaline pumping threw my veins. The Brelooms all put there arm back, looking ready to charge forward and attack. 'Let's hope they can't find the right Breloom,' I whispered to my Ranger.

The Sneasels starting attacking, in the dark cave, taking down the copies one by one, I hoped they wouldn't hit the real thing, before it could hit them first.

    vs. Sneasel BP3

Near commanded his Breloom to use Double Team. The mushroom Pokémon split into 12 different copies, only one of which was actually tangible. My jaw dropped at the sight of the attack. No Pokémon could possibly produce 12 clones of itself. I collected m wits and shrugged it off as a “glitch in the system.”

The 4 copies that Sneasel had created all leapt towards Breloom. The each took to slash at each of the copies, until only 4 remained. Then, with a chuckle, Sneasel retreated back to his original spot. With Beat Up over, the four Sneasel fused back into one. I was in even more awe after seeing what Sneasel had done. This attack seemed pretty interesting, even if it was a bit slow.

With a swipe of his claws, Sneasel released an icy wind that flew towards Breloom and his “shadow clones.” The air grew colder than it already was. Small bits of ice started to form on my shoulder, but I quickly brushed it off. If the attack managed to hit Breloom, then it would bring about horrible consequences.

[[OOC: To answer your question on AIM: Yeah, 12 copies is sort of godmodding. Usually, Double Team produces about 5 or 6 copies. At least, that's what I've seen so far. You can also create tangible copies (that are capable of attack) at the cost of some HP. Think practicality. Don't worry, though, I fixed it for you. :)]]

An Icy Wind was going straight at Breloom. But I'm a mean trainer. So I simply did nothing. It's not like Breloom had any actual emotions. It wouldn't know if I cared about it. It's stupid enough to think I simply made a mistake. So yes. I did just stand there. And I didn't feel even slightly sorry for Breloom. I fed it. I gave it shelter. It deserved to feel a little bit of pain. So I watched. I knew it was waiting for my commands. But quite frankly, it was pretty ugly, and not a single person I know like's an ugly Pokemon, so no one else will care either. I saw the look of fear in Breloom's eyes. I shot of guilt ran through me. When Breloom finally realized I wasn't going to say anything, it took control of the battle itself. I saw it try to dodge, it then started to glow and I could see a line of energy connect itself with Sneasel, it looked as if it was trying to sap energy from Sneasel. It must have been Mega Drain. I wondered if Sneasel's Icy Wind would hit, and break the energy line, or if Breloom would be able to steal some of Sneasel's health.

    vs. Sneasel BP4

As Sneasel’s ice-powered attack came towards Breloom, I was waiting for Near to do something. However, the Pokémon Trainer just sat there in silence. I wasn’t sure what he was doing. What was trying his best to come up with a strategy? Was he daydreaming? Was he just ignoring his Pokémon? I thought to myself that the latter could not possibly be right.

Breloom looked back at his trainer in confusion. I could imagine that he too was confused. I guess Breloom, lacking any real direction from his trainer, decided to go into automatic battle mode, or maybe, he and his trainer had some kind of telepathic connection that allowed them to read each other’s mind. The Pokémon created a line of energy that connected him with Sneasel. The Pokémon was possibly using Mega Drain, an attack that would allow him to drain some of Sneasel’s energy. I was kind of relieved that Breloom was attacking, but I knew that his attack would be futile.

You see, the timeframe between Breloom’s attack and Sneasel’s attack was too great. Sneasel’s Icy Wind attack would hit before Breloom could complete his attack. There was also the matter of type effectiveness. Trying to use a Grass-type attack on an Ice-type Pokémon was just… ….not very… …smart. Even if the attack managed to hit Sneasel, it wouldn’t do much damage. That was why Pokémon needed trainers: to help them to make the right decisions in battle.

My predictions were correct. Before Breloom could complete the attack, Sneasel had hit it with the icy attack. The line of energy connecting Sneasel and Breloom shattered. What’s worse is that when I looked back over at Breloom, I realized that the poor Pokémon was frozen solid. The look of terror on the Pokémon’s face during the moments before he would be hit was frozen in place. I felt kind of bad looking at the Pokémon. I then looked at Near. It was his job to direct the Pokémon, so why was he not doing anything?

Sneasel grinned villainously. Then, it reared one claw backwards and started to run towards Breloom. I’d seen a Sneasel use this attack before. Even though it was easy to think the Pokémon was using Night Slash, Sneasel was actually using Aerial Ace. When Sneasel used Aerial Ace, it reminded me of my favorite TV shows as a child where the hero and villain would charge at each other in the final climactic battle. Just before they hit each other, the screen would go dark and the sound of a sword slashing something could be heard. When the screen returned back to normal, the villain (or sometimes, but very rarely, the hero) could be found lying the ground, bleeding.

I knew that if Sneasel’s attack managed to hit Breloom, it would be just like my favorite childhood TV shows. While Breloom would not be dead, he would most definitely be knocked out, with major scars and bruises on his body. The situation wasn’t looking very good for the Pokémon since he was frozen. I could only imagine the horrible thoughts going through his head as he watched the Dark-type Pokémon charge at him with an attack that would end his part of the battle, knowing that he could do nothing to counter it. I only hope the Pokémon’s trainer came to his senses and helped him out.

Now that Breloom was frozen, it was completely useless, I decided I'd let another Pokemon have a go at Sneasel. I grabbed Breloom's Pokeball and clicked the center, and Breloom turned into it's hidden form inside of the ball. I didn't really understand how something so big, could fit into a ball, of such a small size, the mystery of it was compelling, and I've always wondered about it, it seems like the Pokemon becomes some sort of mist. I don't see how this is possible, but we can't really question the world that God created, and some things, will always be a mystery. I wish that Breloom could have been more helpful, but, he just wasn't, and frozen, he was even worse. Maybe Breloom thinks I was protecting it when I returned it to it's Pokeball, I don't want it to know I was just mad at how horrible it was, since I might need to use it again, and who knows if it'll try to help if I think it's not helpful.

"Go Jolteon!" I shouted, as I sent my Jolteon out to face off against Sneasel. It seemed like a fair match-up, neither of the pokemon were weak to each other, but my Jolteon was faster, and speed always matters. My preference of Pokemon is definitely that they're fast. Because if you can move first, you can use moves that prevent the other Pokemon from moving, making them miss a turn, and letting you advance.

Jolteon was one of my favorite Pokemon, and I definitely didn't want it to get hurt, even the slightest bit. But I knew that would be unavoidable, hopefully it wouldn't become as damaged as my Breloom, and hopefully, it'll be able to do much more then Breloom did. My Jolteon was the best of it's kind, trained to know an abundance of moves, over seventy of them! Everyone knew that my Jolteon was the best around.

"Jolteon try and use Rock Smash against the cave wall to cause rocks to fall on Sneasel, and well Sneasel's distracted use thunder-wave!"

Jolteon swiftly ran up to the side of the cave and bashed it with it's paws, then quickly after it erupted in yellow and blue sparks, and sent a wave of electricity directly towards Sneasel.

I watched to see what would happen, and if the Sneasel would end up paralyzed. Hopefully Jolteon would live up to it's name, as the very best Jolteon in all of Sinnoh. Hopefully, it wouldn't let me down.
