    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Ivy tapped her foot as she sat at her rectangular steel desk, fiddling with the screwdriver in her hand as she lined up the pieces to put her phone back together. It was the result of boredom. She had just gotten the device in this week, along with the rest of her technical gear. The computer was sitting quietly on her left, but she hadn't been able to help herself to see the insides of the speaking utility. It was simple enough to take a few screws out and have a look.

She had set the faceplate back onto the front and just aligned one of the screws before a giggling in the hallway caused her to stop. She looked up toward the open door, but nobody came by. She just shook her head and fastened the rest of her phone together.

She normally didn't like to carry gadgets, but after her last run to Meteor Valley....She shivered. She wasn't doing that again. Better to have the phone and not need it.

A ding made her look over toward the computer. She poked at the mouse for the screen to wake up, and she saw that a notice had popped up telling her that she had a run. She clicked the link for the rest of the information to come through, but it didn't respond. She just sighed after a few minutes of waiting. There were times when technology was more of a pain than a help. That was one of the reasons they still had paper copies of their files.

Another giggle sounded, and Ivy looked up just as Claudia, one of the main office secretaries that helped her, reached her door and knocked. She was looking behind her with a silly smile on her face. Her blondish hair was up in a ponytail today. The aide had a folder in hand.

“Hi, Ivy. The system is down right now, but a run came in for you. Here you go.” She handed over the file, the smile never leaving her face. “I'll dig the rest of the paperwork up for you while you're gone. I'll just leave it on your desk.”

The Ranger thanked her as she headed out the door, and more giggling made Ivy get up and yell, “Busby, you better not be bothering my secretary!”

Jonathan Busby, better known as Buzzer, was a Ranger that started just a short time before her. He was a nice enough guy, and Ivy really liked his Xatu, but he was starting to pick up some...bad habits. Like flirting with the secretaries, preventing them from getting anything done.

Buzz wasn't the only one, however. There were these two Rangers that were pretty famous for working over the ladies. Leo and Chainy were pretty nice as far as she could tell, but you had to watch their hands when they were around. It seemed they were passing on their techniques.

He will stop being ridiculous soon,” a voice said inside her mind, and Ivy chuckled to herself as she recognized River Tam, Buzz's Xatu. She knew the snarky Pokémon would get him to actually do some work.

She checked the file, seeing her next Trainer was someone named Monbrey and that they were headed to Mount Deckbi. She hadn't been up the Mountain yet, so she was looking forward to it.

She gathered her gear and checked her pockets twice, being sure to grab her phone and clip that securely to her belt next to her rope. She left the file folder on the corner of her desk after scanning the contents one more time, making sure she had all the information she would need before leaving. She picked up Haxbat's Pokéball off the other corner of her desk as she walked out the door, making sure to shut it behind her.

The cause of Claudia's giggling was nowhere in sight as she stepped out into the hall and headed for the main doors. Ivy knew River would make good on her promise. It was too bad there wasn't anything to be so effective on the others, though Chainy did seem really adverse to her Crobat...

She stepped outside and was met with grayer skies, though she was sure the weather report said they were going to clear up later today. She looked over to the looming mountain in the Southwest, taking in her next challenge. She was pretty sure she wouldn't get anyone lost or stranded. This time.

She headed over to the teleporter that would take her to Outpost Four and got in, closing her eyes against the slight disorienting feeling of being warped to the distant zone. Spying the gate to the start of the mountain, she released Haxbat in a flash of red light as she settled against the bars to wait. The Crobat weaved through the air for a moment before coming to hover at her shoulder, chattering happily.

I stood at the desk in the Park reception area, filling out my entry application, and the secretaries and receptionist flew back and forth between offices, managing the daily business of the Trainers and Rangers. Although I was new to the Park, the form was pretty straightforward Glancing to the left, I noticed another trainer struggling with his, while a rather attractive secretary gave him assistance and several Rangers watched the secretary from the back. I chuckled to myself, but that only got the secretary’s attention, mistaking my gaze for that of one searching for help.

"Can I offer any assistance?" she asked in a bubbly voice. "Nope, doing just fine thanks." I put my head back down and returned to the form as the bubbly voice continued. "Yes, it's very simple, just fill out-" I cut her off with an annoyed tone in my voice, continuing to write. "Just fine thanks..." She hesitated for a moment, before turning to walk off. "Very well sir." I had never been particularly fond of overly-helpful people; it just bugged me, though in contrast I was never too proud to ask for help if I actually needed it. I hoped I hadn’t offended her.

My Infernape started shifting on her feet behind me, getting impatient. Her dislike for the indoors was showing. "Settle down girl, we've got a long way to go. You'll get to explore soon!" She seemed contended with this, and sprang off to the waiting area, finding us a couple of seats as I finished the entry form and followed after her. I sat down on the wooden chairs and glanced around at the walls. A yellow sign read: Our Rangers are very busy tending to the needs of our clients and the Park. Waiting times can vary from 15 minutes up to 3 hours. We appreciate your patience.

Great, I thought to myself. 3 hours would be tough for me, let alone Infernape. She’d be blasting a hole in the wall to get outside by that long. Although, the waiting room seemed pretty quiet, so it probably wouldn’t be too long. “Excited to meet our Ranger?” Infernape responded with a nod, the flames on her head flaring up, a sure sign of high spirits. “Nape!” “You keep that fire under control in here, alright? The whole place seems looks to be wooden, and I’d really like not to burn down any buildings the first time I’m here. I’d like to come back some time!”

As Infernape shrunk her flames down, the same secretary called out from the desk. “Monbrey? Ranger Ivy Frost is ready to take you up Mt Deckbi - just head to Outpost #4 via teleporter. Locker #86 is yours. I’d offer my help, but I’m sure you’ll be fine.” Oops. Seems I had offended her. I looked around and spotted signs pointing to right to follow. I called out an apology as I left, hoping that a quick patch up was all it needed. “Alright girl, lets head off.” Infernape eagerly followed me to the teleporter room. My locker was right up the top, probably by the doing of the annoyed secretary. Bloody women, so easily offended. I chucked the gear I wasn’t taking in the locker, strapping Dragonite’s ball to my belt and throwing my supplies into a backpack, and headed for the blue platform that would take me to the outpost.

An odd tugging feeling occurred for a second, as the teleporter warper Infernape and I out to the base of the mountain. I looked down, as Infernape stumbled and fell over, a very unimpressed look on her face. “Bit strange eh girl?” She looked up with disapproval, quickly leaping to her feet and flaring the flames on her again. “Awww cool it, we get to explore now. You’ll have fun!” I stepped out, and noticed a Ranger leaning against the bars of the gate, as a Crobat whirled in the air overhead. She too was fairly attractive, a nice perk if I was going to be stuck out her with someone. Always makes things a little more enjoyable.

“Ranger Ivy Frost?” I asked, walking over and extending my hand in greeting. Infernape watched the Crobat flying overhead, almost with envy. She’d taken a ride on my Charizard with me once before, and absolutely loved flying, which I was later told is a rarity in ape-like Pokemon. “I’m Monbrey, and this is my partner Infernape. Looking forward to the hike?”

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Haxbat tensed before leaving his place by her shoulder and floating up into the air, signaling to her that something was up. She pushed her reddish hair behind her shoulder as she straightened up. There was a pulling sensation and then the near silent humming of the warping machine sounded, causing her to look as two figures appeared in it. The Crobat hovered above, wary of the newcomers.

An Infernape stumbled through the device first, it's head flame flickering. Disoriented, it fell over, kicking up dust that clutched onto its white hair patches.

    “Bit strange, eh girl?”

A Trainer stepped out behind his Pokémon and spoke, causing the Infernape to flare her fire as she responded to him. He stepped out of the teleporter, and Ivy got a better look at him. The guy was more athletically built, and as he neared, she had to look up. He was in basic jeans and a t-shirt, which would be good for moving around the mountain. His hair was brownish, but she had a feeling that if it wasn't cloudy, it would be lighter.

“Ranger Ivy Frost?” he asked, and she nodded, accepting his extended hand as he approached. He had a solid shake, and she knew he was probably the type to be filled with confidence in whatever he did. She was looking forward to the run. “I'm Monbrey, and this is my partner Infernape. Looking forward to the hike?”

The Ranger grinned. “Always looking forward to a hike. Nice to meet you guys.” She nodded to his ape-like Pokémon as well, though she was watching Haxbat with a look she couldn't decipher. She hoped there wouldn't be any trouble later. Bat tended to get tricky when he got into a battle.

“Well, we might as well get going.”

With that, Ivy turned around and fiddled with the keypad on the gate lock, entering one of many numbers that would allow her access to Deckbi. She opened it for Monbrey so he could pass through and then made sure it was securely shut. Wouldn't want any wild Pokémon venturing around the Outpost.

They traveled for a few minutes before the path split, one side leading into the caves through the mountain while the other spiraled up the outside. She turned towards Monbrey.

“Alright, you've got two choices here. We can either go into the caves through the mountain, which have a lot of ground Pokémon, or we can take the more leisurely route up. I think I remember reading you were trying to avoid Ground types, but I could be wrong. Also, if you have a Disk Player at all, feel free to use it whenever.”

Crobat soared around to hover behind her shoulder as they waited for Monbrey's answer.

The Ranger accepted my handshake, and grinned back at me. “Always looking forward to a hike. Nice to meet you guys.” She took note of Infernape with a nod as she watched the Ranger's Crobat flying overhead, and seemed puzzled as to why it was being watched so intently. With a quick nudge from me however, the Pokemon snapped back to the task at hand with an excited "Infernape!"

“Well, we might as well get going.” I stood back and looked around as Ivy worked on the keypad that would open the large gates and allow us access to the mountain. I couldn't make out the details from here, but there seemed to be two paths, one down the middle, and one around the mountain.

I looked back, and the gate was open, Ranger Ivy waiting patiently for us to pass through. With a sheepish smile, and quick-stepped in, Infernape close at my heel as the gate was locked again behind us. Ivy started explaining my options.

“Alright, you've got two choices here. We can either go into the caves through the mountain, which have a lot of ground Pokémon, or we can take the more leisurely route up. I think I remember reading you were trying to avoid Ground types, but I could be wrong. Also, if you have a Disk Player at all, feel free to use it whenever."

I thought for a second. Going through the caves would be a dumb idea, particularly after using the type repellent. I'd be unlikely to find much at all heading that way.

"Leisurely route sounds nice, and you're right, I sprayed a Ground-type repellent before coming in, so heading through the caves would probably just be a waste of time." I paused and fumbled around in my backpack, pulling out the Pokeplayer and the two Voice Disc I had bought earlier.

"Pretty sure I got the idea of how this works. Just play it while we're walking right?" I mumbled to myself as I set up the Pokeplayer, as usual whenever I was figuring out a new piece of technology. "Lesse... that... there... in there... should be... ths button... ok, thats working now... I think." Infernape watched with a look of disdain, never a fan of the fancy gadgets I brought home, or my tendency towards video gaming. I turned back to the Ranger as the sounds of an amplified Vulpix cry began to echo out towards the mountain.

"Awesome, this thing's set up now, so Infernape and I are ready to head off whenever you are. Straight up that way?" I asked, pointing to the path spiralling up the outside of the mountain.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Monbrey thought going through the caves wasn't a good idea, and Ivy agreed after confirming that he had a Ground type repellent. She wanted to make sure he encountered some Pokémon he'd be interested in, as that was her job. Besides, he looked to be a good Trainer, and she was sure any Pokémon would benefit traveling the world with him.

He also mentioned having a Poképlayer, and he dug around in his backpack until he found it and two disks. He mumbled to himself while figuring the device out, and she didn't miss the focused look on his face. "Lesse... that... there... in there... should be... this button... okay, thats working now... I think."

Ivy resisted the urge to laugh at him. His Infernape was not as amused as she sported a somewhat unhappy look on her face. Most of the time the Ranger had a similar reaction. It had been a few weeks before she got equipment like her phone and computer even, though she did have a curiosity to see how things worked. In fact, she was almost sure there was a Poképlayer somewhere in her office.

It was only a few moments before the a loud Vulpix cry sounded up the mountainside. Ivy hoped it worked. The disks were programmed to run for a set time here in the Park, and they were only useable once per run. If a Vulpix didn't show up this run, he would have to wait until next time to try again.

"Awesome, this thing's set up now, so Infernape and I are ready to head off whenever you are. Straight up that way?" he asked, motioning towards the spiraling path before them. Ivy nodded, and they began the hike up.

The Ranger gazed at the rocky cliffs and edges ahead. The swinging of the rope on her belt brought another thought to her mind, and she wondered if they would get the chance to do any rock climbing. She remembered Buzzer telling her of his brief experience with that on a run here, though it was cut short by a Torkoal. If she didn't get to today, perhaps she would go with the other Ranger some time. It looked like fun. Besides, River Tam was good company.

Their path started to incline, and some of the rocks thinned out to make room for a rough grass on either side of the road. Large boulders dotted the way as well, making it hard to see everything surrounding them. Suddenly, a scuffle made Ivy slow, and Haxbat swooped down from the air, chattering at her shoulder.

They stopped, and a cream colored form stepped out from behind a large boulder up ahead. Fire danced along its skin in ripples, and Ivy marveled at its gleaming hooves and proud stance. A sharp horn and a low snort warned them of the possible danger, but the Ranger still couldn't help think it was one of the most beautiful creatures she had ever seen.

“Wow,” she murmured. “A Rapidash. I hear their competitive nature is great for battling, and their beauty would probably do great in any sort of contest.” Ivy looked over to Monbrey, gesturing towards the creature with her head. “Any interest in this one?”

    OOC: Male Rapidash please

I began to walk up the curving path around the outside of the mountain, lined with rocky cliffs and sharp drops for anyone careless enough to venture off. The Ranger led the way, which I was grateful for, as I watched rocks slip and slide off the cliffs. As the path started heading up and getting steeping, the smaller rocks were gradually replaced by large boulders and small patches of grass along the edges of the path.

Infernape seemed to be enjoying the walk, looking around at the scenery and enjoying the warm sunlight. I could always tell when she was happy, regardless of if she showed it or not. I think it was something about the way the flames from her head flickered, much in the same way people read facial expressions. They had a way of dancing when happy, drooping when sad, and flaring up when excited or angry.

Suddenly, a sound from up ahead caused the Ranger to slow down. Her Crobat swooped down and landed on her shoulder, making its own little noises to tell her there was something ahead. We stood and watched as a cream coloured equine creature stepped out from behind a large boulder. Flames danced off its neck and back, waving in the breeze. It was amazing and I held my breath watching its beauty, as it took a strong stance, showed its horn and snorted in our direction. Even Infernape was a little shocked, but its competitive nature soon took over, glaring back with a fierce look of her own. She was ready for battle.

“Wow,” Ivy started to speak in a low voice. “A Rapidash. I hear their competitive nature is great for battling, and their beauty would probably do great in any sort of contest.” She looked over at, and gave a nod towards the Rapidash. “Any interest in this one?”

Still staring at the Rapidash, I managed to find my voice. "Definitely. My other main target for the run was Ponyta, this is even better!" I quickly considered my options. Infernape had a huge range of techniques, but that could just make it difficult to plan a strategy at times.

"Alright Infernape. Your fire moves arent going be much help here, so focus more on your physical attacks. First, I want you to Bulk Up, do your best to intimidate the Rapidash and get the upper hand. Then, use Brick Break, try and hit it in the flank. Avoid the legs, we don't want you to cripple it by mistake, do we girl?"

Infernape listened intently, all the while meeting the Rapidash's fierce gaze. She responded with an excited "Naaape!" and immediately bounded forward, the flames on her head roaring up and trailing behind her. As she ran, her body began to slow with a red aura, her muscles bulging as their power increased. As she neared the Rapidash, she jumped, the white glow of a readied Brick Break on her right hand combining with the still present red aura.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

It took Monbrey a couple of seconds to speak, seemingly enthralled with the fire horse as well. He smiled though, answering her question. “Definitely. My other main target for the run was Ponyta. This is even better!”

Ivy let out a breath of relief. It was always disappointing when a Trainer didn't see the Pokémon they wanted, and she wanted everyone to have a good time at the Park. That way, they would keep coming back.

Monbrey instructed his Infernape to stay away from fire attacks, which was smart. Rapidash had a tendency to take any fire moves used against them and absorb them to increase their own strength. It made them pretty fierce fighters, and it limited some opponent's choices.

The Trainer called out for Infernape to bulk up her defenses and then use a chopping Brick Break attack to hit the Rapidash somewhere on the flank. That was safer than the legs, as too much force to them would cause serious damage. Speed was one of Rapidash's best qualities.

Infernape took in the directions, looking the flamed horse straight in the eye, refusing to back down from the challenge. The horse just snorted again as he flicked his head, the rushing air kicking up dust at his feet as his head came down with a shake. His front leg pawed at the ground in anticipation, his hoof making sharp indents in the dirt. It didn't look like he was going down without a good fight.

The fire monkey bounded forward, the fire on her head intensifying as it trailed behind her. “Naaape!” she cried, and soon after her skin began to glow with a red aura. The power of her muscles increased as she neared, and when she was in a good range to strike, she leaped up into the air. Her fist started to glow as she prepared the attack, and the added power boost from the aura danced around her body as it combined with her own strength.

The horse stood his ground, facing off against his opponent without running. At the last second, it reared up and attempted to smash Infernape. Rapidash was fast, but so was Monbrey's partner. Her fist sliced downwards, flashing past the raised hooves and striking him on the underbelly. The horse flinched for a moment, and caught off balance, he brought his weight down.

Infernape immediately jumped back, but the hard hooves glanced off her shoulder as the horse tried to regain his footing. The fire monkey didn't look too badly damaged, and the horse was definitely the one behind in points. Infernape backed up as she waited new orders from her Trainer while Rapidash stumbled, the fire on his legs weaving through the air.

Infernape's strike landed successfully, falling right in between Rapidash's powerful front legs as he stood up, ready to pound it's assailant into the ground. The strike managed to knock Rapidash off just long enough for Infernape to make a quick dodge back, taking only a glancing hit as Rapidash brought it's dangerously hard hooves down with amazing force. Infernape seemed no worse for wear, as backed away a little and waited for orders.

Rapidash was fast, and that made fighting up close difficult. I considered sending Dragonite, but he wasn't a big fan of battling. An amazingly useful partner for support, but he was just too gentle to want to do harm to others. Besides, I could guarantee Infernape wouldn't be happy if I pulled her back so soon.

The red aura was beginning to fade, but I calculated enough time for another physical attack. I called out to my Pokemon. "I've got a bit of a trick I think you can pull off - let's combine your techniques!"

Infernape continued glaring at the Rapidash as she took a couple more steps backwards to listen to my, I thought, brilliant idea.

"Alright girl, as far as speed goes, he may be fast, but there's no way he can outspeed your Mach Punch! And to add a little extra, I want you to make it a Thunderpunch too! Think you can get that elctricity powered as you charge in?"

Infernape appeared to like the idea, tiny sparks already starting to jump between her fingers. She wasted no time charging back into the fray, a brilliantly bright yellow light emanating from both her fists as the sparks grew larger and the crackling became audible.

I shouted after her, hoping she was listening. "Be careful! He's fast, so you'll have to be ready to try and dodge back before he can recover and make his own move!"

I found myself thinking once again that, for a Pokemon, Infernape was an amazing strategist in her own right. This time she opted not to go for the same attack angle, without a word of instruction from me. Rather than jump, Infernape started to almost dance from foot to foot, making small zigzags as she got closer, ducking low and aiming for the flank again. A clever move; she wanted to catch the wild Rapidash off guard. Hopefully it would pay off.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Infernape had come out of the conflict mostly unscathed, and she looked ready to keep fighting. Though fire on fire was sometimes seen as a bad match up, the fire monkey didn't look ready to back off, and Ivy wasn't sure Monbrey would switch her out for his other Pokémon. Infernape looked like she really enjoyed the fight, and the Ranger was sure the two had more tricks up their sleeves.

Just like she thought, Monbrey delivered, calling out for a combination attack. “Alright, girl, as far as speed goes, he may be fast, but there's no way he can out speed your Mach Punch! And to add a little extra, I want you to make it a Thunderpunch too! Think you can get that electricity powered as you charge in?”

Ready as ever, Infernape wasted no time charging back towards the Rapidash, who had not moved. Electricity danced between her fingers, curling with her fist as she flew forward. She darted in a zigzag like motion as she neared her target, changing up how she attacked this time around. It was quite impressive, as Monbrey hadn't told her to do so. He did yell a warning though, to try and dodge before the horse could strike. It was good thinking, but Ivy was unsure if the Pokémon heard. Then again, she looked to be pretty capable at battling on her own, so she might know what to do anyway.

The Rapidash stared down the monkey as it approached, and Ivy saw the fire in its eyes flare up in time with its head flame. The horse Pokémon was known for its competitive nature, and at the rate Infernape was flying, Ivy bet he took it as a direct speed challenge. He dashed towards the ape in a straight line, dust kicking up behind his hooves as he rushed.

The two met, and as Rapidash struck out with its horn, Infernape ducked to the side and connected her fist with the horse hard. The lightning cackled as the fast strike fizzled over his skin, and instead of being completely stunned, he used the momentum to swung the rest of his body in a rolling tackle that threw Infernape back towards her Trainer. She hit the ground a few times, luckily avoiding any rocks. When she got up, she didn't seem too hurt, and that might've been because of her earlier power boost. The aura faded soon after, and Infernape no longer had to work to keep the boost going.

The Rapidash snorted out his nose and backed up a little, the glare in his eyes still present. With an agitated flick of his tail, he turned his back and started to run. He stumbled a little at first but then steadily picked up the pace. He carefully traced a path around the boulders, trailing lines in the sand as he wove around the area. He passed through boulder gaps and around rocks, and he eventually did a full circuit. On the second path, he picked up even more speed, and then he was making circuits at a rapid pace.

Around and around the horse went, and Ivy had never seen anything move so agile and calculating. Before long, the small dust trails at his feet grew in size, compounding on each other until a massive whirling cloud was formed. The dirt thickened, and it became hard to catch glimpses of the cream colored horse. Only his flickering flames showed dots as he ran by.

He disappeared into the sand and rocks, and Ivy wondered what Monbrey was going to do next.

The Rapidash lurched forward with its horn as Infernape dodged under and hit hard with a Thunderpunch. The nimble horse however didn't seem stunned, the force of its charge sending Infernape backwards, tumbling over a few times before returning to its feet.

"Are you alright girl?" She didn't show any signs of serious damage, giving only a quick tail flick to answer me, instead continuing to watch the Rapidash for any signs of movement. And movement there was.

The creature had stepped back to give itself room, and with a snort started to run, making a careful path around the boulders that littered the terrain. Its pace gradually increased until it was tearing around the same carefully calculated path, larg clouds of dust forming behind it as it ran. I had never seen a wild Pokemon act in such a manner. Infernape was watching intently, trying to figure out the strange behavior.

The clouds soon grew and formed together into a single whirling cloud, the Rapidash nearly invisible inside, bar the occassional glimpse of the flicking flames that danced all over it's body. Infernape looked over at me, looking ready to charge straight in.

"Careful girl. I can't even see the damn horse, and your eyes are about as good as mine. But I'm willing to bet that it can't see out either..." The Pokemon must be a little scared. It was an amazing defensive technique, but it had given itself the same handicap we now had.

"Alright girl! While it can't see us, let's get a little prepared. I want you to set up Stealth Rock all around that whirling cloud. It clearly knows the terrain, so we'll simply change it! But the cloud..."

I was pleased with the first half of my plan, but Infernape still didn't seem sure. I had to get rid of the swirling tornado of dust.

"Hmm, if it wasn't for Rapidash's unique ability, I'd fight that tornado with one of your own, a Fire Spin... but that isn't going to work here." Thankfully, another idea had formed. "Alright Infernape, after you set up those rocks, I want you to use your Grass Knot technique. If you can, weave it around the rocks, darting back and forth through the sand. Just run in a straight line, and you should be fine. Got all that?"

Infernape seemed to think it through for a second, but responded with her usual happy, excited "Nape!". I guess she approved. In theory, that Rapidash should trip up on the tangled mess of grass ropes that would be created, and then the dust could settle. I needed visibility back.

Infernape bounded off again, tail flicking behind her and immediately began grabbing rocks from the surroundings, placing them in strategic positions around the area. They all glowed faintly, a side effect of the odd empowering that occured when the Stealth Rock technique was used.

As the final rock was placed, Infernape stopped and watched the tornado, looking for the right moment. As the grass rope began to form behind her, she darted off, and was lost from my eyesight in the swirling mass of dust.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Even though Infernape looked ready to charge after her opponent, she stopped as soon as her Trainer called out to her. “Careful girl. I can't even see the damn horse, and your eyes are about as good as mine. But I'm willing to bet that it can't see out either...”

Ivy thought that Monbrey had a point, and she wondered why the horse had made such a defensive move. From what she could tell, it was pretty courageous in most of the things it had done, not wanting to back down from the Trainer's challenge. Monbrey's partner was pretty formidable though, and maybe Rapidash was starting to second guess himself. She supposed that these wild Pokémon they encountered didn't have loving Trainers to reassure them they could win. Some of them would never get the chance for a partnership either. It was a little sad.

An echoing call sounded from within the sand, and it grew louder as it passed by them on the winding dirt. It carried challenge with it, and the Ranger knew that even though the creature was a bit more wary, he wasn't going to give up without fighting it out.

Monbrey debated on ways to counter the dust tornado. Not being able to see his opponent was a major set back. Who knew what the horse was planning under his dusty cover. Ivy signaled for Haxbat to take to the air, and he soared up, high enough to avoid the swirling dirt in the attempt to see something. He chattered in annoyance, and Ivy figured it was useless for now. He stayed up there just in case, hovering with watchful eyes.

In the end, he came up with a pretty good plan. He first instructed Infernape to position the many rocks littering the field around the whirlwind, giving them power with the Stealth Rock technique. They glowed a little, and the Ranger was interested to see what they would do.

Infernape took off after all the stones were placed, a twisting grass rope starting to form behind her. The idea was for her to weave it around the rocks on the Rapidash's path, hoping to trip it up. If the horse stopped running, the dust would probably settle eventually.

They held their breath as they waited for something to happen, as nothing was visible from the human's side. There was no noise for a moment, only the brushing of the dust. Then Haxbat cried out, and there was a thrashing sound.

Infernape came flying out of the dust, skidding on the ground back towards his Trainer. The horse called out after, and it turned to a surprised screech as the creature came lurching through the tornado, caught off balance. It's head was downwards, signaling that's what he struck the fire monkey with. Ivy spotted the vines wrapped around his back legs and saw that the Grass Knot had done it's job exactly has it should've.

As Rapidash neared, two of the nearby rocks sprang to live, starting to glow with energy. They both rose from the ground and launched towards the horse, striking him at the same time. The creature fell on its side, kicking rapidly to free his legs. He managed to get untangled fairly quickly, but by that time the dirt tornado was starting to fade.

As the ground resettled, Ivy saw Infernape's work along the track. Grass trailed everywhere, curling around rocks and even wrapping around some of the larger boulders. It looked like a mini maze. No wonder the horse had gotten snagged.

Rapidash, not giving up yet, circled back around toward the larger cluster of rocks, carefully jumping between the slowing curling vines. With a powerful leap, he landed on top of one only to jump to the next higher. The vines twisted around the horse's perch, but the creature was steady and unworried. It lowered its head slightly, and the flames dancing on his skin flared to life as his eyes glowed.

Even from a distance, Ivy could feel the temperature rising, and the lingering dust made the air stale and chalky. Whatever the horse was planning, she hoped Monbrey had another good plan.

The atmosphere was tense as the Ranger and I watched the whirling dust in silence. Neither Pokemon could be seen. Suddenly, the sounds of a struggle, and the Ranger's Crobat shreiking were follwed by Infernape skidding along the ground out of the swirling duststorm.

Rapidash abruptly it out shortly after, off balance and with its horn down. The vines were wapped out its hind legs, greatly restricting its movement, and allowing the second half of my plan to proceed, the Stealth Rocks glowing and smashing the horse between them. He fell to his side and kicked at the vines, his powerful legs soon tearing free.

As the dust settled, I admired Infernape's handiwork. She had done a great job. Rapidash however was less than impressed. With a snort, he jumped nimbly from rock to rock, ignoring the twisting vines that surrounded them. Deciding on a high perch, he turned to face me, the flames that danced along his body burning fiercely.

It was time for a new plan, and Rapidash had given me an idea. "Alright girl, this time we're going to go on the defensive with our own tornado technique." I hoped this was going to work how I planned, but even if it didn't, it was going to be one hell of a show.

"I want you to use Fire Spin to completely surround yourself in a pillar of flame, then when you're hidden from Rapidash's sight, use Dig to bury yourself underground."

Originally, part of my plan was then to fire ranged attacks at the Rapidash from underground, but it soon occurred to me that most of these were Fire based, and therefore next to useless against the flaming horse. Hyper Beam was too risky and would exhaust Infernape in the process. I could only think of one other option.

"Hmm.... you should be able to tell roughly where the Rapidash is from underground, those vines and rocks have left an imprint, so I want you to use them like landmarks. Try hitting it with Focus Blast from underneath, alright? It might be powerful, but I know it's not the best technique when it comes to accuracy. At the very least you might destroy that high-ground its decided to take."

The lack of useful Fire technique's was really limiting Infernape's battling ability, but she had so far been brilliant. Many times, Infernape's quick reflexes and superior fighting ability had earned me victory over my opponent. Even some of the most fearsome beasts known to the world of Pokemon such as Tyranitar couldn't stand up to the four foot tall fire monkey when it came to melee combat. She was reknowned for her devastating power and huge movepool, and many people feared facing her in battle. Fear felt good.

However, the Park imposed a new challenge - actually capturing the Pokemon, not trying to knock it out. I had to admit I enjoyed being mentally challenged to this degree, amd it seemed like Infernape was having a good time too. She bounded off almost playfully to carry out my instruction, selecting a suitable spot and inhaling deeply as the growing fireball appeared in her mouth, barely hiding the ape-like grin behind it and she prepared one of her favourite techniques - the Fire Spin.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Monbrey had a thoughtful look on his face as he seemed to get an idea. He turned to his Infernape and said, “I want you to use Fire Spin to completely surround yourself in a pillar of flame. Then, when you're hidden from sight, use Dig to bury yourself underground.”

Ivy was impressed. The Trainer was going to use a similar idea to the one they just saw. His was a little more thought out though, as he commanded his fire monkey to use the vines and rocks from before in order to navigate. Using Focus Blast was risky since sometimes it went way off course, but if he got lucky, it would at least get some of the terrain Rapidash was using out of the way.

In any case, Infernape seemed in good spirits as she bounded forward, fire forming in her mouth as she charged up the attack. It looked like she really enjoyed the battle, and that was a great choice for the Park.

Infernape found a good spot in the field, semi-away from everything. Taking a large breath, she released her built up energy. The flames coiled around her, growing higher and whirling faster as they went until a giant flame pillar whipped around her. The fire thickened to where she was no longer visible, and the Ranger imagined the ape had wasted no time in disappearing underground.

The fire crackled as it faded away slowly with nothing to tend to it. Since they were on the gravel path, there wasn't much for the fire to catch to when it was spun in a tighter funnel. Then there was only the horse's breathing and the shifting of his hooves on the rocks.

Rapidash waited, constantly flicking his head back and forth as he tried to locate Infernape. The air stayed muggy, so he wasn't completely distracted, but his breath was shallower, like he was ready to spring at a moments notice.

Suddenly, there was a light shaking, and the ground blasted apart as glowing forces emerged from it in waves. One of them just clipped one of the medium sized boulders, sending the corner of it flying in a shower of small flakes of stone. Another followed right after, but it went wide and missed. There was a few second pause before a third followed, and that one sailed into the largest boulder the Rapidash was standing on.

Rapidash cried out, trying to jump away. It barely managed to lift it's feet from the rock before it gave out from under it. The large boulder exploded with an echoing boom, shaking the ground and sending dirt and debris everywhere. The horse was thrown off by the change in momentum. He shifted his weight quickly, sending his body stamping down to bounce on the ground, trying to aim where he thought Infernape would be.

The horse hit the ground hard, but Ivy couldn't tell if Infernape was hit or not yet. Though the ground shook and cracked with the force of the hit, the Ranger was pretty sure it protected Infernape from the brunt of it anyway.

Everything happened fast. Rapidash sprang back up a little after hitting the ground, and out of his control, was slammed by pieces of rock flying about. The horse went sailing across the field, landing in a cloud of dust. While it settled, Infernape pulled herself out of the hole made from her attack, looking not too much worse off.

There were bits of rocks and thick vines scattered across the area, making it look like someone had dropped odd-shaped confetti all over. The horse pulled himself off of some rocks, flinching as he did so. He took a long look at Infernape and then flared out his flames in a sudden rush.

Nearby vines sparked with flame, and they lit up brightly at the horse's feet. The fire started to curl around his legs, and then the horse dashed off, running through the field. More and more bits of grass caught fire, and Rapidash didn't stop until the floor was littered with patches of flickering flames. Some of them were thicker, so they were going to burn for a little while yet.

He ended on the other side of the field from the monkey, standing among the rocks and fire patches. It was pretty in a way, but it could be dangerous. Ivy wondered what Monbrey was going to make of this.

Infernape let fly with a thick, twisting pillar of flame, which curled around her body as it spread upwards into a blazing tornado. She disappeared inside the wall of fire and quickly burrowed underground, as the burning column crackled and disintegrated into the air.

Rapidash stood perched high on the rock; its breathing was short and shallow, muscles tensed, searching for Infernape.

Without warning, several glowing waves burst out from undergound, the first hitting a boulder and sending a small section flying over the field in small piece. A second missed altogether. After a short break a third waved blasted out, connecting directly with the boulder Rapidash was perched on top of.

The Rapidash leapt from the exploding boulder as the force threw chucks everywhere. The horse slammed his weight down on the ground where the blast came from, aiming to hurt Infernape no doubt. The ground split from the impressive force, but there was no sound of a cry from Infernape.

It seemed the Rapidash had attacked too quickly though, and was unprepared for his own force. I watched as he sprang back, and was hit hard by the debris still flying about. He landed across the field as Infernape emerged from underground, filthy, but seemingly free from damage.

Infernape stood an admired her handyworth with a toothy grin. Rapidash seemed enranged, pulling himself up to his feet with a wince of pain before te flames on his back and legs blazed bigger and brighter than ever.

The horse then bolted as the flames curled around its legs, a small Fire Spin of its own. The vine and grasses that littered the field caught alight, spreading until the entire clearing was lit with patches of flame.

I admired the horse's work. It was surprisingly intelligent - the vines had caused him trouble before, so he had disposed of them. The Fire itself wasnt a huge danger to Infernape, but it would still hurt if something went wrong.

I was running out of ideas. It would help if I could put out the flames somehow, but Infernape wasn't exactly a master of Water techniques. Still, I was sure Infernape and I could come up with something, though it was a huge job.

"We need to put out all these flames before we can fight properly. Besides, the smoke is stinging my eyes..." I muttered to myself I knew Water wasn't an option, but there was more than one way to put out a fire. Rapidash's way, to precise. Besides, for all I knew I might get some brownie points with the pretty Ranger for cleaning up the mess our battle had left.

"Infernape! I want you to use Roleplay to copy that Rapidash's fire-absorbing abilities!" Still processing the idea in my own head, Infernape looked back a little confused, but then refocused on the Rapidash, appearing to study it closely. There was still a lot of flame on the field however. It was a lot for one Pokemon to... then another idea hit me.

"Infernape, keep focusing! When you're done, I want you to use Double Team... make as many doubles as you can, and use them to absorb all the flames and clear up the field. That way we should be able to fight a little better. Then if you have the strength when the clones fade, try to keep a couple corporeal, I have another trick up my sleeve if this works..."

A grin spread across my face, proud of what I hoped would follow. Infernape picked up on my mood, and I could tell she was excited too. By nature, the happier I was with an idea, the more confidence she would have in executing it. She was having a ball out here, the terrain seemed natural to her, as a Fire type, and as always she loved the battling. I loved to see her in such a great mood. For now, I just had to watch, and wait while she attempted to learn the ability known as Flash Fire, confident that Infernape could carry out my plan.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Monbrey thought hard for a moment, trying to figure out what to do next. Ivy coughed, and she wondered if the smoke was starting to bother the Trainer like it was her. While the mountain tended to be hazy and dusty, it was nothing compared to the burning fumes eating her lungs and stinging her eyes. Besides that, the flames would get in the way of the battle and could power up the horse if he tried to absorb them.

The Ranger worried a little about the mess too. Though it wasn't anyone's fault, she didn't really want to get written up for it or something, if that was possible. Spending a few days in the boiling heat moving rocks didn't sound like too much fun, though if she played it right, she probably could rig it so Leo, Buzz, or Chainy would take her place...

“Infernape! I want you to use Role Play to copy that Rapidash's fire-absorbing abilities!” Monbrey shouted all of a sudden. Ivy watched the fire monkey really focus on the horse, studying him to gain his ability. It was a great idea, and if the Trainer worked it right, it could give him the same advantage as Rapidash had.

Monbrey then called out to use Double Team, wanting to absorb all the flames from the field. He grinned fiercely, and Infernape seemed to mirror that excitement as she prepared to do as her Trainer wished. They had done so well so far, and Monbrey always had great ideas. Ivy was so glad that she hadn't had a problem with any of her Trainers so far.

Infernape's head flames seemed to flare as she finished studying the horse, gathering energy to her as she prepared her next move. She glowed with light, and it flashed for a second before there were five of her facing the Rapidash, all with grins on their faces.

They shot off after, trailing through the flames as they added to Infernape's strength. The head flames on her and her clones flared and flickered as they went, soaking up all that available energy.

As the fire tracks disappeared, the Rapidash realized what Infernape was doing. With a late start he dashed up to absorb as much fire as it could too, but five Pokémon were too much for him. he only managed to get to some of the smaller patches closer to it before all of it was gone.

Rapidash stopped at the other end of the field from Infernape as two of her clones disappeared. It was probably spending too much energy to keep them all up at once, even with the boost from the fire power. Still, two other copies remained, and Ivy hoped that they would be enough for whatever Monbrey was plotting.

Infernape snapped out of her focused stare, and imediately prepared the next part of my plan. As the flames on her head blazed higher, she glowed white before splitting into five identical copies. If it weren't from the slight flickering on four of the five, it ould have been impossible to tell the real Infernape from the doubles. Even Infernape's cheesy grin was identical on all of them.

In sync, they all raced out over the field, coverig as many fire patches as they could, the flames circling around their legs before being absorbed into the Pokemon.

Rapidash watched, and soon realised what Infernape was doing, racing off to absorb some of the flames itself. It was greatly outnumbered howevever, and didn't manage to get too far before the Infernapes had cleared the whole field.

Rapidash stopped, Infernape panting a little as two of the four clones vaporised. Keeping them alive like that was a big effort, but the power abosrbed from the flames would be lessening the strain on her. Rapidash was weakened, and I knew I'd be able to capture it soon, but it still looked like it could put up a strong fight. I didn't want to risk it running away if it evaded capture.

Infernape was still focused on maintaining the clones, so I knew she wouldn't be able to put her all into an attack. The clones themselves were mostly just shadows, so they didn't have any attacking power either really. I did have one idea though. It was a technique I had seen used by the Elite Four Champion Lance against a challenger.

It was the final Pokemon, and the match had come down to a 1v1. His Charizard vs the opponent's Alakazam. Even the commentators for the match were claiming Lance "had his back to the wall". His Charizard had just used Double Team to control copies of itself, just as Infernape had, which was considered a very defensive and desperate move. However no-one was prepared for what came next. Charizard then forced himself and the clones into the shadows, completely disappearing from the battlefield. The audience watched on bewildered as they watched a flesh and blood Charizard meld into the darkness. Alakazam and his Trainer had no idea what was going on, searching around frantically and watching the shadows slip silently across the ground. It continually send Psychic blasts at the ground, the it was completely ineffective. Suddently, Alakazam was surrounded, and the clones burst from the shadows all around it, morphed into giant black glowing claws. They came down on Alakazam from all sides, slashing at it with unbelievable power. Needless to say, Lance reigned supreme.

I didn't expect Infernape to be as powerful as the Champion's Pokemon, but she still knew all the needed techniques. If I could just explain it too her well enough, I was pretty sure she could manage a simpler version. She hadn't had any problems carrying out my crazy ideas so far.

"Great job so far Infernape! We should be able to wrap this up soon, but I've got one last idea for you - the Shadow Claw technique. As you use it, I want you to get the clones to use it too. They're basically just shadows themselves, so I think they'll be able to use it, and pretty damn effectively too. Meld them into the shadows on the battlefield, and sneak around to the sides of Rapidash. Then, when you're in place, the clones should spring out and be able to use Shadow Claw. It will take a lot of energy though, so just focus, stay calm, and I have faith that you can do it!"

Infernape was already focusing on the clones as I finished my idea. I was pretty proud of what I... well, Lance, had come up with. Grabbing my backpack again, I reached in and took out an empty Hyper Ball, its shiny yellow surface glinting in the sunlight. I tapped the button and it expanded in my hand as I raced after Infernape. As she made her attack, I threw the Pokeball high in the air, watching as it arced towards Rapidash. Hopefully, Infernape's impending attack was enough of a distraction for it not to notice the Pokeball as it soared in for the potential capture.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Great job so far, Infernape!” Monbrey praised his Pokémon. He then asked her to use the Shadow Claw technique, having the two remaining clones add in their strength for some crafty tactics. The Trainer looked like he was reminiscing on a memory, and Ivy wondered if he had seen the move done before the way he directed.

The Infernape nodded as she focused on the clones. They sneakily edged out of direct sight, melding into the shadows among the dirt as they tried to hide in the shadows of the rocks that were left. It looked challenging to Ivy, as a lot of the rocks were smaller now thanks to the attacks that had been flying around. Still, Infernape was managing fairly well.

As the Ranger looked ahead, she saw one part of the field that had been mostly left alone. There were two medium-sized rocks a short distance apart from each other, and Rapidash was lined up in the lane that ran between them. If he could get the horse to come forward...

As she thought it, Infernape darted off towards the horse, calling out a challenge. Due to Rapidash's fighting spirit, he couldn't let it go and began to charge forward with his horn slightly pointed towards the fire monkey. Ivy watched Monbrey swing his backpack forward to take out a shiny, yellow Hyperball quickly, running after his Infernape.

The monkey suddenly slid to a stop just before the two rocks, and Ivy saw the flicker of shadow behind them as her clones seemed to be in place as well. The horse came charging down the lane, and Infernape used that exact moment to attack. Her clones reappeared from behind the rocks at the same time, the claws on their arms shining with a dark energy as they slashed out.

The Rapidash saw them too late, and the clones struck as he tried to stop. Caught on either side, the horse flinched as both Pokémon crashed into it. They disappeared right after, serving their purpose. The horse flinched and staggered, unable to concentrate on anything. Monbrey used this opportunity to launch the Hyperball at Rapidash, and it sailed over Infernape to hit the horse. The creature was sucked inside as everyone watched with anticipation as it fell to the ground and shook. There was silence.

    Ding.

The telltale sign of a successful capture rang through the clearing, and Ivy sighed in relief. She smiled and turned towards the Trainer. “Congratulations on your first capture!”

The Ranger passed Monbrey and Infernape as she went to collect the captured Pokémon. “As per park rules, I'll hang onto him until you decide which Pokémon you're taking with you when you leave.” She dropped the ball into her red vest pocked and brushed off her hands, looking around. “And there's not even anything in real need of straightening as far as debris goes. You're great at cleaning up.” She grinned at the Trainer as she walked back to the path.

“We can either take a break now if you want to let Infernape rest or we can continue on up the mountain. It's your call.”

Infernape's clones merrged into the shadows nearby, slinking along next to the small pieces of debris. She ran towards the horse, shouting a challenge as she prepared her clones into perfect ambush position.

Rapidash responded, charging forward with its horn lowered straight towards Infernape, who suddenly stopped just short of two larger rocks as the shadows slid over them. Rapidash continued charging forward, unaware of the danger until it was too late.

As Rapidash passed through the rocks, the clones sprang forth, claws glowing black and they slashed the flanks of the Rapidash in unison. I was runnig after Infernape, and threw a Hyperball high into the air as the horse stumbled around, in serious pain from the attack. It arced and hit Rapidash on the side, sucking the Pokemon in with a flash of brilliant red light, before falling to the ground, shaking as the light blinked.

Ding! I had caught Rapidash! Ranger Ivy smiled at me. “Congratulations on your first capture!”

I grinned back and thanked her as she explained the park rules to me. “I'll hang onto him until you decide which Pokémon you're taking with you when you leave.” She looked around as she dropped the ball into her pocket. “And there's not even anything in real need of straightening as far as debris goes. You're great at cleaning up.” She grinned at the Trainer as she walked back to the path.

She was right - The battlefield and come out looking pretty good considering. "Clean up is very important when you like to be a dirty as I do..." I smirked as Infernape looked up at me with a disapproving sneer. She didn't always appreciate my sense of humour.

“We can either take a break now if you want to let Infernape rest or we can continue on up the mountain. It's your call.”

I checked on Infernape's condition a little more closely. Although relatively unwounded, she had to be tired from the long battle, particularly after manipulating those clones so well. "You did a great job girl." I smiled at my Pokemon.

The Ranger was still waiting for my reply. "Yeah, I guess Infernape and I both could both use a bit of a rest!" I checked on my supplies. My Vulpix disc still had 4 different cries left on it I could try out in the hopes of finding one. Plenty of potions and empty balls were left.

Infernape curled up on the ground, setting the patch of grass in front of her alight for some warmth. She hated sleeping anywhere it was even the slightest bit cold.

"So, after the break, what should we expect up the mountain anyway?"

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

“Yeah, I guess Infernape and I could both use a bit of a rest!” Monbrey called, and he took the time to praise his Pokémon and check his supplies. Infernape curled up in a sun spot for a while, and everyone just enjoyed the sunshine for a while. Then Monbrey asked, “So, after the break, what should we expect up the mountain anyway?”

Ivy thought for a moment before answering, sitting down on a rock in the path while Haxbat swooped down next to her. “Well, there's all sorts of things. The path up is really a great sight. We'll eventually get into a grassy area, and then when we wrap around the south side of the mountain, we'll be able to see the ocean pretty clearly. Then it's pretty much a rocky climb up to the volcano, if you feel like going that far. A lot of fire Pokémon are around the higher up we go.”

After the rest, Ivy led them back to the winding path. The Poképlayer sounded off again, the sound of a Vulpix echoing down the path far head of them. She hoped it was going to work soon.

As the group went, the rocks and dirt turned into a softer grass. It wasn't long before Ivy heard a curious sound, and Haxbat became alert as he hovered over the grassy plain. The bushes ruffled, and then a red and brown fuzzy shaped poked its head out of the blades.

“Vuuuulpix,” it cried cutely. It's greyish eyes shone with interest, wondering who was nearing.

Ivy motioned to the small fox and directed her words at Monbrey. “Hey, it looks like your disk player came through for you. I'm assuming you want to catch this one right?” The Ranger backed up to the opposite side of the path to give the creature some space. She motioned for her Crobat to join her as she moved. She didn't want them to scare it, and the Trainer would probably need the space.

Ivy looked around, checking the scenery ahead while she thought about her answer. "Well, there's all sorts of things.

Fire Pokemon were my specialty, and there were very few left I was yet to obtain. In fact, that was the whole point of coming to Mount Deckbi - to catch those remaining additions to my team. Rapidash had been a great success, and I looked forward to seeing what else the mountain had to offer.

Ranger Ivy led us up the path after we were done relaxing, the rocky terrain becoming softer underfoot, replaced by blades of grass. The Pokeplayer sounded out another Vulpix cry.

It seemed to have worked. In response, a shuffling noise came from one of the nearby patches of grass. A cute little face appeared, pushing the green blades aside as the tips of its many tails bobbed up and down, bairly visible above the grass.

"Vuuuulpix," It looked around, searching for the familiar noise. I was amazed by my own luck. Vulpix was EXACTLY what I had wanted.

“Hey, it looks like your disk player came through for you. I'm assuming you want to catch this one right?” Ivy stepped back to give me room, though I didn't want this to be a big fight. Vulpix was much more frail than a Rapidash.

"Hell yes. I've wanted a Vulpix ever since this guy at the Solaceon Daycare... actually never mind that. Yes, yes I'll capture it." Infernape seemed eager again, but I had a feeling her battling would be a little too intense for this smaller Pokemon.

"Infernape, you did great earlier, but I think you're just TOO tough to handle this one! Take a break, Slack Off for a while if you like." Infernape seemed a little disappointed, but still bounded off, seemingly content with the time to herself anyway.

"Alright Dragonite, this one is for you!" I grabbed his Pokeball from my belt, releasing the rare Dragon from its confines.

"Niiiite!" it cried, gliding through the air with a smile on his face before coming to rest on the ground next to me.

"Alright mate, we're going to try and capture that Vulpix. Since I know you've got the finesse not to go overboard, I think you should be perfect for this. Don't be too menacing, the poor girl is only small!"

Dragonite had a few more support options than the outright attacking ability of Infernape, and it was these I wanted to employ here.

"Dragonite, hit it with Thunder Wave. Hopefully if it does get scared, that will prevent it from escaping."

Dragonite nodded, slowly stepping forward, coaxing the Vulpix out while the antennas on it's head began to crackle with electricity.
