@mlouden03; Driving out of state tomorrow. Won’t be on all day.

    NBP#5

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Gaius shook his head as the small camel continued to look at them blankly. “Its evolved form, Camerupt, is decent, but it’s not what I’m looking for right now. I’d rather we try to find something else if possible.”

Ivy shrugged and walked on, and this time the wild Pokemon didn’t respond. It blinked as they left and let out a yawn that the Ranger saw when she looked over her shoulder. Maybe it was going to nap in the sun. Vergil paid it little mind after he saw it, clearly not threatened by such a small thing. That would probably get him in trouble sometime.

As they continued up the path, they got nearer and nearer to the base of the mountain. Soon the Trainer would have to decide which way he wanted to go—through or over the top.

As they went, Gaius answered her question, saying he wanted every stereotypical Pokemon people came here for: Onix, Larvesta, Drillbur, Rhyhorn, and Gligar. Ivy supposed she shouldn’t really be too surprised—most Trainers that wandered in here were all battle-centric and all wanted the same thing. She sighed to herself and nodded to the Trainer to show she was listening. It just got old chasing after the same things all the time.

Vergil marched on ahead, keeping his senses peeled. The Gallade was pretty battle-oriented too. Haji always said that it was going to be his pitfall. At least, that’s the impression Ivy got. Haji didn’t use many words if they weren’t needed.

The split in the path came up on them then, leading in separate directions. The left path would take them up the mountain, while the one to the right led inside the massive amount of rock that loomed over them. A smoke ring around the top was hardly visible if Ivy looked up—ash fell more often up there, making visibility difficult at times.

A lot of bigger rocks were strewn about so close to them now—likely remnants from what fell off of the mountain proper. As such, it made the entire place seem pretty ominous. Vergil tried to hide it, but it showed in a line of tension down his shoulders. Then again, maybe he could sense something she couldn’t.

That’s when a massive roar echoed overhead. A large form casted a shadow over them as it emerged from one of the very high caverns up the mountain. A gust of wind tore through the plains and kicked up dust and rocks. Ivy covered her face as she felt a form descent, shaking the earth as it landed on one of the large boulders against the rock face.

A trumpeting call was sounded that made Ivy wince at the volume. When she looked up, a growling orange dragon glared at them, smoke curling out of its nostrils. Ivy backed up a step, and Vergil was tense beside her.

“Well, here’s a Pokemon that likes to battle,” the Ranger said. “Any interest in this one? Regardless of which path you want to take, this Charizard might block our way if you don’t deal with it first.”

    OOC: @WinterVines;

I'm sorry it's been several days, I've been feeling quite ill

    IC:

Gaius paused as he continued along the path, until the pair reached an area on the path that split off in different directions. The young trainer at first was unsure which path to take, but after consideration he decided that going over the top would be the better option. Before he had a chance to inform his ranger, however, a loud roar ripped through air above the group, and Gaius looked up. He immediately noticed the large, orange-colored Charizard swooping down towards them and landing in front of the pair. 'Great,' the young trainer thought, 'Charizard would be nice, but I know it's not particularly rare. I can always find one of those in a Marketplace somewhere. Catching one here would be a waste of my time.' The young man shook his head and turned towards the ranger.

"I don't need to capture Charizard right now," he began, "can we just try to avoid it." He reached into his pocket and grabbed $500 in case they were unable to run from the Fire-type Pokemon. "I have the cash on me if we can't avoid the beast, but I would prefer to not have to use it."

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

The Trainer looked at the Charizard, and the Charizard looked back. It wasn’t a very happy look, so Ivy thought it best they do something. Now that she looked at it, it sort of looked like the pseudo-dragon was angled more toward the path inside the mountain. That left their choice pretty clear then.

“I don’t need to capture Charizard right now. Can we just try to avoid it?” the Trainer asked. Thankfully, he didn’t insult the Pokemon this time. Somehow, she didn’t think Charizard was in the mood for that.

Vergil, surprising her, stayed between them and the wild Pokemon as she ushered the Trainer to the left, toward the path that would take them up the rugged mountain by the outside. Gaius walked on and Ivy kept her eyes on the Fire-type.

Thankfully, it didn’t follow them. That would’ve been a handful. Instead, when Vergil had followed them to the incline, the large flying lizard stretched and spun in place, coiling up on the rock surface as the sun beat down on him. Ivy guessed he liked sun tanning about as much as Haji did.

Soon they were trekking up the path, stepping carefully over jutting rocks. It was definitely rough terrain, and Ivy was glad for her boots and gear, despite how hot it was. At first, she had tried to dress more casually and airy like some of the others, but she spent so much time in the field that it wasn’t worth the damage to her body. She could tolerate a little heat if it meant having to clean fewer cuts and scrapes later. Didn’t help her mood much though.

Suddenly, an ‘oomph’ of air came out of the Trainer as he almost tripped. Ivy stopped and looked down. A small yellow-plated rock uncurled as they watched, revealing the marsupial-like Sandshrew. It blinked up at them sleepily as a fleck of ash fell onto its nose.

“…shrew?” it asked, swiping at its face.

“Well, it seems this little one was woken from its nap. Any interest?” the Ranger asked.

Gaius smiled as they walked away from the Charizard, and was glad that he didn't have to spend money on a Pokedoll. 'Costs like those add up fast in here,' the trainer thought. 'I hope that one doll on this run is my limit, otherwise I'll have to reallocate my spending habits.' He looked on as his guide continued to lead him up the path heading up the mountain. He planned to ask his ranger several questions when he had the chance, but right now the heat was getting to him and making it hard for him to think.

As he kept walking, he almost tripped over a small yellow-colored round object. He managed to steady himself and thankfully didn't fall, as he would hate to appear like some novice in front of his ranger. The yellow ball uncurled, revealing a Pokemon that Gaius knew of somewhat, a Sandshrew. He slowly sighed and shook his head while looking towards his guide. "I don't really need Sandshrew right now, I can get them pretty easily in Kanto where I'm from, and can always go to Route 4 or several other Routes in order to catch them there." He looked on as he tried to walk away from Sandshrew, hoping it would leave the pair alone.

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Gaius expressed that Sandshrew was fairly easily for him to get, being from Kanto, and opted to pass it up. He started to walk away, and Ivy just waited for the Pokemon to react. Sometimes, like with that Charizard, it was dangerous to turn your back on a wild creature.

Thankfully, this one was pretty soft tempered. The Sandshrew opened its mouth wide as it yawned, taking the next moment to circle in its place and curl back up into a ball, content to go back to sleep. The heat often evoked that response—it was one reason Haji napped a lot whenever he sunbathed.

Vergil patiently waited for her to be done with the Sandshrew, despite the Trainer who kept walking. Although the Gallade did have his arms crossed.

They kept going, and the ash got thicker, almost like it was snow. Ivy covered her eyes with a flat hand and looked upward. They still had a little ways to go before they reached the top of the volcano, but already she could feel the heat sticking to her skin between her clothes.

Soon, Vergil paused, bringing his arms up in a tense position, ready to fight. Ivy called out to the Trainer, “Hey, wait a sec.” There was something coming.

A light buzzing sound was heard, but she couldn’t tell at first where it was coming from. The path was so rocky that some views were obstructed, and the rapidly falling ash didn’t help matters.

Soon, a dragonfly-like Pokemon buzzed around a rock, its four wings flapping rapidly. It flew over them, angling its body slightly downward as it looked at the group. Its head cocked to the side as it inspected, hovering just out of reach.

“Hey, there’s a Vibrava,” Ivy said. “Want to catch this one?”

Many people thought this Pokemon to be a Bug-type, but it was actually a smaller dragon in training. Ivy thought its typing was pretty weird too.

Gaius quickly looked at the new-found Pokemon in front of him and was initially displeased. "I know that Vibrava evolves into Flygon, which is a pretty cool Pokemon, but I don't really need one right now. I already have a nice Dragon-type Pokemon in a Dragonite, so I have that type covered at least. Tyranitar also serves as a Ground-type attacker so I have that department taken care of as well. So far I'm pretty happy with what I've caught, and I haven't seen much else I actually would want to pick up yet. Do you mind if we try to avoid this guy and move on?"

    @mlouden03; Escape didn’t work.

    NBP#8

    Ranger Ivy Frost

    ---

Gaius passed on the Vibrava too, explaining that he had other teammates who covered the wild Pokemon’s types in battle. A lot of Trainers were one of two ways; they either collected enough Pokemon to cover all the types or they stuck to one or two types and collected a bunch of that type. It was sort of cool to be in the Park and see all different types come through.

“Do you mind if we try to avoid this guy and move on?” the Trainer asked.

Ivy nodded. “It’s not up to me, but let’s try to keep going,” she said, nodding toward the volcano center. She pulled at her collar—the heat was nearly unbearable, but it would be even hotter in the pit. Whoever thought having an active volcano here was crazy.

However, as the group tried to progress up the mountain, the Ranger heard the furious buzzing of wings. She turned, expecting the wild Pokemon to rush them, but it hadn’t moved from its spot. Instead, its wings fluttered incredibly fast. One second they beat wildly—the next, a shockwave spread out from them with a whoosh. The earth trembled in response, and the force of it nearly blew Ivy backward.

“What in the world…?” she asked, rubbing her head.

In the moments that they were stunned, the Vibrava darted ahead of them, standing in the way of the progress. Somewhere behind them, a Pokemon roared. It was too far away to tell what it was, but after a few tense seconds, it sounded again. Whatever it was was getting closer.

“It’s probably not a good idea to stay here,” she cautioned.
