It was a clear blue day with a gentle breeze blowing over the Botanic Gardens. The always cheerful Ranger Eli was just sitting there on the grass, enjoying the scenery as his trusty Delcatty Nancy rested right beside him. Eli couldn't help but smile as he couldn't tell if Nancy was purring or just snoring.

Suddenly, Nancy's ears began to twitch as she heard someone coming. When Ranger Eli looked back, there he was, a fun looking guy with multi-colored hair approached. That was the only description Eli needed to recognize the trainer he was supposed to escort that day.

He stood up and greeted, "Hello! You must be Mr. Katsuya. I'm Ranger Eli and I'll be your escort for today."

"Nya!" greeted Nancy as she finally managed to stand up.

"I'm sure this was the way he said to go..."

Katsuya bit down a little too hard on his nail as he looked around, slightly puzzled as to whether he was heading in the right direction. He pulled his finger away and started shaking his hand wildly in an attempt to reduce the pain shooting through his finger; he quickly realised that anyone who saw him doing this would probably think he looked a little odd, and decided to stop. Indeed, both of his Pokemon looked at him with looks of disdain on there faces.

"Yeah, okay guys, I get it, maybe cut down a little on the mad acting. We want to make a good first impression with this ranger - and Kaze, that means no running off, okay? Please?"

Kat looked at Kaze sternly, knowing that his Magmar had heard this talk enough times by know that he knew Kat wasn't going to follow through with anything. Katsuya knew at heart though that Kaze wouldn't act up too much; indeed, ever since he had evolved from being a Magby, he had matured somewhat. Still, it didn't help that Chikato egged him on at times. The two made quite a double act when they wanted. For now though, all three of them were slightly in trouble, as Kat still had no clue if he was heading in the right direction. That was when an idea struck him.

"I know - Chikato, get up in the air and scout out where we are, tell me if you spot anyone!"

Chikato looked up from the ground at Kat, and immediately started to chirp as if she was laughing. The breeze had picked up a little, and Kat's hair had been blown up in the air, meaning there was a shock of multi-coloured hair all over his face. Kat sighed, frantically brushing it back to something over a more normal style. By the time he was done, Chikato and Kaze were more or less rolling on the floor in laughter.

"Yeah, alright...come on, let's just walk, we've got to find someone eventually..."

The trio turned round a corner, and Kat quickly caught sight of someone wearing a ranger's uniform. He breathed a sigh of relief and started to head towards the ranger. He was desperate to make a good first impression, since he knew how important the rangers were in the Park.

"Hello! You must be Mr. Katsuya. I'm Ranger Eli and I'll be your escort for today."

Eli's Delcatty stood up next to him and gave its own little greeting. Kat straightened up and smiled at the Ranger, then stood still for a few moments. Kaze and Chikato both looked up at him as he paused, before Kat suddenly realised that he hadn't said anything, or even introduced himself.

"Oh - oh, I'm sorry, hi, yeah, I'm Katsuya...although everyone calls me Kat, so feel free to! These are Kaze and Chikato, my Magmar and Chikato--er, I mean, Starly! Say hi, guys!"

Kaze gave a courteous nod at both the Ranger and his Pokemon, while Chikato waved her wing happily, chirping her name at the same time. Kat smiled at his Pokemon for being friendly, before he turned to look at Eli expectantly.

Ranger Eli smiled and turned around to face the large area with hundreds of different plants of different sizes and colors as he said, "Well, Welcome to the Botanic Gardens. From the spot the grass gets knee high and beyond is where you'll find a huge variety of Pokemon. But I have to warn you. The Pokemon here are very good at playing hide and seek. Maybe they'll be inside hollow trees of within the grass, or even camouflaging between the plants. You have to keep your eyes opens and search all around if you want to find them.

Ranger Eli took notice of the Magmar following Kat and said, "Also, please be careful not to set the place on fire. We need for there to still be a Garden here when we leave. With that said, let's go!"

Ranger Eli stepped into the grass followed by his Delcatty, although in this tall grass, all you could see of her where he ears. However, as Kat followed, he felt something inside the grass. The grass began moving as if something was in there. As the wind picked up a bit, a Hoppip jumped out from inside the grass and began to float in the air. It looked peaceful as it did and it just stared curiously at the group.

Kat chuckled a little after Eli warned him about Kaze setting the Gardens on fire. Although he may have had some quite literal hot-head problems with Kaze when he was a Magby, he had been able to keep his flames under control as he had grown up, and now that he was a Magmar, he had it all under control. Still, Kat silently gave Kaze a warning and told him to listen to what the Ranger had said. Kaze nodded back at Kat, and the trio set off behind Eli and his Delcatty in to the tall grass. As soon as they did, the breeze picked up again, and Kat had a brief moment of panic as he checked to see if Kaze's flame on his tail was catching any of the grass. Thankfully it hadn't, and Kat felt confident that they could carry on.

"Oh!" Eli commented, catching Kat's attention. A Hoppip had appeared from out of the grass, caught by the breeze. Almost immediately after spotting it, Kaze tensed, his flame rising a little, obviously ready to battle.

"Kaze, wait..." Kat had to make a quick decision. He very well could send Kaze, or even Chikato, and they would be able to take on the Hoppip. It was more the question of whether he wanted to battle it: he only had a limited number of Park and Super Balls, and would a Hoppip be worth it? "Kaze, leave it. We need to focus on stronger Pokemon."

Kat watched as the small pink Pokemon floated away on the breeze. As it drifted high, Kat hoped that he hadn't just let a big opportunity drift away...

As the Hoppip floated away, the group simply kept moving through the grass. Soon, they made it to a couple of hollow trees laying on the ground, all of them surrounded by flowers of many colors. Only a few steps ahead there was also a single tree that only had leaves in it. However, up in the tree there was also something sleeping.

"Over there? That giant fruit-looking Pokemon. Must be a Cherubi," commented Ranger Eli.

"Nyah!" followed Nancy trying to point towards the tree with her tail.

OOC: BTW, the idea is for you to explore this place and look for the Pokemon. Try end your non-battle posts with your character or your Pokemon doing something or going towards something to make Pokemon appear. It's more fun that way, especially since what you do does affect the order in which the wild Pokemon appear.

 

Kat stopped and looked over at the tree in question. Sure enough, he could see the distinctive two-headed shape of a Cherubi. This time, he had a much harder decision to make: Cherubi was, after all, a much stronger Pokemon than a Hoppip, and had more potential after evolution as well. The problem was that it still wasn't really something that would immediately fit in to Kat's team - and he still only had the limited number of Park Balls.

"Errrr...thanks, but I think we'll keep going," Kat nodded at Eli, "but that one was tempting! So, where are we going next?"

Before Eli could speak, however, Kaze's head shot round towards a pile of logs in the distance. There was a moments pause, and he suddenly charged off, obviously having spotted something. Chikato quickly followed, chirping giddily as she tried to keep pace with the much faster Kaze. Kat looked mortified as his Pokemon ran off away from him - this was exactly what he didn't want to happen in front of a Ranger!

"Oh my god, Eli, I'm so sorry! KAZE, CHIKATO, GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW! I'm not going to follow you! Get back here! I mean it," Kat screamed at the top of his head, unaware that he was causing more of a commotion than his two Pokemon, "I am seriously not going to follow you. Nope. Not one...oh, for the love of..."

With that, Kat broke out in to a sprint, fully aware that he had a lot of ground to make up on both Kaze and Chikato as they neared the logs...

As the two Pokemon kept running away, a foul smell suddenly filled the air. Chikato had decided to fly even further, but she seemed to have gotten deep into the smell and just decided to roost as she shook it off. However, as Kaze walked by her, the ground suddenly gave in and the two Pokemon fell into a hole in the ground. The way it looked was as if someone had planned this all along.

As the Pokemon fell in, a large nearby flower popped out of the ground revealing itself as a Gloom while a nearby bush began to move and opened its eyes revealing itself to be a Tangela. The too Pokemon kept pointing at the whole and laughing.

Kat and Eli quickly caught up to them and noticed the grass Pokemon. Ranger Eli grinned a bit with a slight sweat drop as he said, "Well, I not all Pokemon know how to behave."

Barely listening to what Eli was saying, Kat looked down at his two Pokemon trapped in the hole, before he glanced over at the laughing Tangela and Gloom. He suddenly felt a wave of anger - he wasn't about to let these two Pokemon humiliate Kaze, Chikato, or himself. Kaze and Chikato looked as equally angry as Kat, and it was clear that they were ready to battle and get some revenge.

"Alright, time to get you out of this hole; Chikato, you've got to just fly up on out of there, then get ready to fight back! Now, Kaze, this one's gonna be a bit more difficult, but I have an idea. Build up as big a Flamethrower as youn, them aim it at the ground - you should be able to use the power from that to push yourself up on out!"

Both Pokemon reacted quickly; Chikato soared out of the hole, aiming just above the Gloom and Tangela, obviously sending a warning signal to the two Pokemon that she was not happy at being made a joke out of. Kat nodded at his Starly as she circled the two Grass type Pokemon, ready for whatever Kat's next command was. Kaze's flame on his tail, meanwhile, burned intensely as he continued to heat up - and suddenly, a column of scorching hot red and orange flames erupted from Kaze's mouth, sending him shooting out of the hole. The intense heat generated from Kaze's Flamethrower hit back at Kat, but that didn't bother him. If anything, he was even more impressed at the strength of his Pokemon's abilities.

"Great job guys!" Kat beamed at both of his Pokemon, as he noticed that the Gloom and Tangela were no longer laughing. "Now, Kaze, it's time to show them some of that fire power up close and personal - aim that Flamethrower at Tangela! But...Gloom...if it uses some kind of powder attack we could be in serious trouble, it was because of that we got in to this mess to begin with! Chikato, let's blow it away with Whirlwind, use the breeze to our advantage!"

Chikato chirped at her trainer from the air, and turned so that the breeze was blowing alongside her. Furiously flapping her wings, Chikato aimed down at the enemy Gloom, obviously determined to measure out her own type of retribution. Kat shielded his eyes as leaves and dust blew up from the ground, as he saw both the Gloom and the Tangela struggle to keep their footing - as Chikato's efforts were creating what seemed like a mini tornado, aiming straight at the Gloom.

"Magmaaaaaar!" Kat's attention suddenly shifted to Kaze. The foliage being brought up from Chikato's actions were catching in his tail flame, making it burn with even more vigour and intensity. This was obviously fueling his attack, and moments after Kaze's call came another huge blast of flamesfrom his mouth. Red and orange flames flicked up from the concentrated burst - all of which were aiming at the distracted Tangela. Kat just hoped that the extertion would not be too much for his Pokemon so early on in what could be a tense battle...

(((OOC: Hope that was all okay - I read the encyclopedia and it said that you can still use Whirlwind to blow away an opponent as well as being an attack, so hope that's fine.)))

Gloom quickly jumped behind Tangela and hung on to its vines. They looked rather serious, yet calm, as if they had done this before. As Chikato began to blow a Whirlwind against the two grass Pokemon, roots came out of Tangela's feet and grasped onto the ground. As the tornado got to its targets, Tangela didn't seemed bothered by it, but Gloom was being blow away, only hanging to Tangela's vines who had stretched back a lot, holding the foul smelling Pokemon in the air.

Kaze attempted a Flamethrower, but the fact was he had used a lot of his breath to get out of that hole, so the small ember he managed to make was blow away by Chikato's Whirlwind.

The Whirlwind kept going forward and soon vanished as Kaze tried to recover his breath, but that's when it happened. Without the wind holding Gloom back, Tangela's vines worked like a slingshot, firing Gloom with great speed. Gloom began spreading purple particles all around and as it got exactly between Chikato and Kaze, both Pokemon were about to get covered by the attack.

Kat frowned as he realised that his attack plan hadn't exactly gone to plan. In fact, it had almost backfired completely, and he was quickly realising that his Pokemon were about to be struck down by a Poisonpowder attack. There was hardly any time to react, but thankfully Kat's mind had already gone in to overdrive, formulating a plan on the spot.

"Guys, you have to act quick! Kaze, I know you need to recharge your fire but I have a way of getting rid of the particles - choke them out with Smog!"

Kaze seemed to respond well to the suggestion, obviously happy to be able to get a slight chance at recovering. Letting out a wheeze, Kaze spurted out a thick plume of grey-black gas directly through the poison particles, attempting to directly counter them with a denser cloud of gas. This seemed to be working, although the thickness of the gas meant that it was hard for Kat to be able to see anything - all he could pick up was the choking smell coming from the Smog attack. The second part of his attack, though, would attempt clear that up.

"Alright, now, Chikato - let's clear our side of the field up and try to get back at these two! Use Whirlwind to send the Smog, any of the Poisonpowder...pretty much anything straight at Gloom and Tangela!"

With that, Chikato again picked up her wings and started to furiously flap, perhaps a little weaker than the last time, but still relatively effectively. The gas starting to head away from his Pokemon, Kat simply hoped that this double-team strategy would work just as well for his Pokemon as it did for the wild ones they were facing.

Kaze listened to the command and immediately began blowing Smog out of his mouth. However, in doing so, he accidentally pushed the Poisonpowder in Chikato's direction. The poor Starly breathed in some of the powder before it was able to perform the whirlwind attack. Although Chikato began coughing, it created a Whirlwind that carried the Smog towards Tangela. Tangela just kept hanging on with its ingrain, so it breathed in the smog.

However, in doing this, they forgot that Gloom flew passed them earlier. Gloom had landed and as it did, it opened its mouth and launched a Sluge Bomb towards Kaze.

OOC: Sorry for taking so long, but, I lost my internet connection at home and I'm not sure when it'll come back. = (

Kat grimaced as he realised that Chikato had been hit by the Poisonpowder particles. He knew that he had a Full Heal ready and waiting though, and the poison would only be starting to kick in, so Chikato could last a while longer before the battle really kicked in. Now though, Kat was faced with an interesting problem. Fighting both Gloom and Tangela wasn't working - and really, did he want to battle both Pokemon, let alone try to catch them?

His attention quickly shifted though as he saw the globs of foul-looking sludge heading towards Kaze. Gloom was certainly the more aggressive of the two opposing Pokemon so far, but he knew that having a Tangela might be more prosperous in the long run. With that, Kat made his decision.

"Kaze, try and block the Sludge Bombs by using Lava Plume - and Chikato, you've got to try and blow that Gloom away this time with Whirlwind!"

Kaze nodded; with his breath back, he launched a massive amount of lava and flames out of his mouth at the floor. Several other mini-explosions of lava then erupted in response, almost like aftershocks, as Kaze attempted to protect himself from the incoming attack. Chikato, meanwhile, again flapped her wings in an attempt to pick up the Whirlwind. Kat just hoped the poison wouldn't affect her performance in this battle too much...

(I'd like the Tangela to be Male, and depending on what happens after these orders, Gloom would be Female if it remains in the battle)

Gloom finally launched the Sludge Bomb directly at Kaze, however, Kaze quickly reacted shooting lava towards the ground. Chikato was nearby, waiting for her chance to swoop in and attack, but at the lava hit the floor, some of it splashed to the side and caught Chikato. The Starly was in serious pain as it flew around in circle trying to shake off the attack.

Meanwhile, the Lava had formed into a wave that absorbed the Sludge Bomb. The force of the poisonous attack managed to make the wave drop before getting to Gloom, but as the lava stopped, Chikato appeared from behind it and created a Whirlwind that blew Gloom clear out of their sight. Gloom's screams as it became temporarily airborne echoed for a bit.

When the Pokemon turned around to face Tangela, they found that it probably wasn't such a good idea to leave a Pokemon ignored during the battle. Kaze found himself with a grass knot holding its feet down, to it quickly fell to the ground as it turned. When they took a closer look, Tangela had grown somehow and was now preparing an attack.

The colors from Tangela's body suddenly stretched forward and became a white beam that headed straight for Kaze.

Kat was glad to see the back of the Gloom, but his attention quickly snapped back to the battle at hand. It seemed like for every positive move that he made, the wild Pokemon had something to answer for it - but thankfully, there was only one of them left now. The problem was that the one remaining was about to land a huge Ancientpower attack on Kaze, and that could very easily cause a whole load of problems.

"K-Kaze, quick - use as much firepower as you have left and try and rise up over it!"

Kaze nodded, as he tried to build up enough breath to power himself up over the glowing white beam that was heading towards him. Kat watched as Kaze's flame flickered up, obviously trying to gain the necessary amount to clear the incoming attack. Kat, however, had other plans even if that didn't work, and they came in the form of Chikato. His Starly was starting to look a little worse for wear, but she still could pack a mighty punch before he would have to heal her - and he had just the right move in mind.

"Alright Chikato, time to show off just how strong you can be - hit Tangela with Brave Bird!"

Chikato chirped down at Kat, soaring higher in to the sky before tucking her wings in. As she started to soar down towards Tangela, she erupted in to a glorious ball of flames, almost matching Kaze's natural fire abilities in their ferocity. As Chikato neared Tangela, the flames disappeared, leaving her bathed in a blue aura that covered her entire body, as she got ready to slam in to the ingrained Pokemon.

Kaze began shooting flames at the ground to try and lift himself up and away from the attack. However, having done this before, it wasn't as easy to do again. The flames managed to lift him out of the way just in time, but the Ancientpower broke the flames, making Kaze fall flat down on the floor.

Meanwhile, Chikato was on her way with a very powerful display as she performed her Brave Bird attack. Catching Tangela off guard, Brave Bird actually made a direct hit. The pain on both Pokemon's eyes was more than obvious. At that moment, Tangela sprayed a strange yellow dust over Chikato and the Starly quickly fell to the floor. It seemed to be in a lot of pain.

Kat winced as he saw Chikato lying in pain on the floor. While the impact of Brave Bird had obviously caused Tangela some serious damage, he knew that the recoil was going to hurt Chikato too. Kat also guessed that Tangela's last attack had paralysed his Starly, meaning that she was now in serious need of attention. Thankfully, Kat had an idea, and given the fact that Kaze had avoided being too badly hurt (specifically by the Anicentpower attack), he would be able to play his role in allowing Kat to heal Chikato.

"Alright, Kaze, let's get up and see how strong Tangela is when he can't see anything - use your Smokescreen attack!"

Kaze pushed himself up off the ground, brazenly dusting himself off as he did so. Given the chance to regain some of his breath and burn up a bit, Kaze seemed to relish the latest command, blowing out thick plumes of black smoke in the direction of Tangela. With Tangela hopefully unable to see anything through the layer of smoke now filling the battlefield, Kat dashed across to Chikato, pulling out a Full Heal and a Super Potion as he did so.

"You've done so awesome, girl, I'm proud of what you've done so far - that Brave Bird was awesome! These sprays are gonna make you feel better, I promise, okay?" Kat stroked Chikato's beak tenderly, as her eyes slowly looked up at Kat, chirping her thanks as he began to spray both bottles on to her.

Kaze stood up and took a deep breath letting out a large Smokescreen. Tangela was quickly covered by it, so it couldn't see a thing. Frustrated, Tangela began releasing something into the air. It wasn't visible, but whatever it was it smelled really sweet and strong. In the middle of that, Katsuya stepped into the Smokescreen and quickly found Chikato. He began spraying her with the two bottles and Chikato was immediately healed.

However, it didn't take long for the Sweet Scent to cover Chikato and Kat. With them covered in it, Tangela was now able to pinpoint their location by following the scent, so it quickly spread its vines in the direction of Kat and his Starly.

OOC: Well, items you buy from the Shop can be used in the middle of the battle, but you have to RP your character using them much like you did right there, except the Ranger decides the outcome.

 

Kat looked on in shock as he saw that the Tangela's vines were heading straight for himself and Chikato. This Pokémon was - knowingly or not - about to hit him with an attack that was probably going to hurt him a fair bit if it did connect. Part of him wanted to take the entire blow and protect Chikato in doing so: she had just been healed, and admittedly seemed to be in much better shape than she had moments before. Still, Kat has always seen her as his "little girl" in many ways - she was small and almost frail in his eyes, even though he knew that she had incredible strength and resilience. He had to think of something else to stop this attack from hitting them.

"Kaze! Quick, throw a Flamethrower attack in front of us, the second those vines come near us they'll be singed!"

Kat looked over at Kaze, hoping that his Magmar had recovered enough of his breath for this to work. Kaze's face went tense as he began to focus his efforts at throwing out the Flamethrower; the column of flames erupting from his mouth moments later was a relief to Kat. At least Kaze could use Flamethrower, although it was for how long and with how much power that he was now more worried about - especially with the harsh looking vines still heading towards Chikato and himself at tremendous speed, now just metres away. Kat just hoped that the tactic would work out and finally leave them at an advantage in this battle...

Kaze really didn't have that much breath left, but seeing as his trainer was in danger, he tried his best and manages to send several flames towards Tangela's vines. Just when the vines where about to hit Kat and Chikato, they made contact with the flames. Tangela shouted in pain as he retreated the vines.

The Smokescreen soon cleared and it was now very obvious that Tangela had been tired for some time now, even more with that fire attack having hurt it. Tangela took a deep breath and the look on his eyes became more intense. He was most likely furious as to how this battle had turned out. He quickly glared towards Kaze who, for a split second, made eye contact with Tangela. Tangela's eyes gave out a strange yellow glow and suddenly Kaze began shouting in a furious manner as well. He began running aimlessly with his fists on fire, threatening to punch the first thing that got on his way.

Kat looked over at the wildly charging Kaze, flailing his arms around in an obvious rage. Kat's brain went in to overdrive as he tried to work out what move the Tangela had just used - but as he was doing this, he noticed something. The Tangela was more or less wide open for an attack; while he could send Kaze to do so, in his confusion he could miss, hit himself, or even worse, hit Chikato.

"Chikato, listen - whatever you do, you have to stay as far away from Kaze as you can at all times!" Kat looked down at Chikato, who quickly picked up her wings and rose in to the air next to Kat. "Kaze, buddy, you just...erm...keep doing whatever you're doing, okay?"

That command didn't seem to bother Kaze at all, as he continued to punch thin air with an unimaginable fury. Kat let out a nervous laugh as he did so, just thankful that he wasn't close to himself or Chikato at that point.

"Okay, Chikato, let's try and get Tangela down and ready for a catch - nail him with a Tackle attack!" Kat called out his command, and immediately Chikato was off, flying through the air, ready to slam her body in to the Tangela. Kat prepared himself for what was to come next, pulling out a Parkball, ready to aim it at the Tangela. This battle was going to have to end now, and Kat was ready for it.
