    Ranger "Prose" Ignatius

    (-)

Prose had been twiddling his thumbs for a few days now. He had just finished the grilling of the officials on his past, one that he tried his best not to reveal. It was a good thing that he never was discovered to actually be a part of…

“Knock, knock,” a voice said from outside his door. “Prose, you got an assignment; check the listing.”

    “Finally,” he whispered to himself.

Prose wheeled himself to the computer and woke it up. In his spare time, he had been creating new coding for some device or another. The program must have still been on when he fell asleep last night out of exhaustion. He liked to keep in shape and pushed himself hard, as at even 21 years the body can still grow.

He closed the beta program and opened the Park’s database, checking the new request listing. There he saw it, “Prose Ignatius” assigned to “Jay.” It was a simple name, but he didn’t mind. What interested him was the choice of companions.

Jay had brought in a Zoroark, a very rare Pokémon indeed. It would help against most of the Pokémon in the park, and he had a Shelmet, which would be good to use against Dark-type Pokémon. However, the Unfezant seemed to be just another Pokémon to do basic damage for there were very few Pokémon weak against Flying-types.

Prose shut down his laptop and placed his white trench-coat on himself. Looking in the mirror, he donned his white beret on his aqua hair. He made sure that he had his Pokémon ready, just in case a problem might arise. Each one was a loyal subject, noticing the strength he possessed, even if he did acquire some under suspect conditions.

He locked his door before heading out to the front desk. He filled his bag with some basic supplies, as it didn’t seem like Jay had purchased things like medicinal herbs.

The receptionist was an attractive blonde no more than twenty or so. She winked at Prose and said, “Tonight we should celebrate your first run; maybe we can take a ferry to a port town and go to a bar?”

“I’m sorry, Quinn; another time,” Prose said somberly.

Quinn pouted. “Outpost #8. Meteor Valley. Be safe.”

Prose turned and walked out of the Ranger Station almost coldly. He knew that he shouldn’t leave the island. Not yet…

Lucky for him, Outpost #8 was right in the middle of the Park, so he didn’t have to lead Jay far. He leaned up against a nearby tree and waited for his trainer to arrive.

    Arrival

Coming from over the horizon, two figures made their way towards the Ranger standing a good distance away. As the sun beamed down, their faces came into view.

Jay walked towards the man. Hands in his pockets, he gave off a very calm and serious air; his eyes focused solely in front of him. His ocean blue eyes were fierce; more than making up his less than intimidating height of only 5'4". Beside him stood a person of the exact same visage. Why this did not alarm the blonde was anyone's guess.

Looking behind him, he looked to see his-very exhausted-Shelmet dragging her feet behind them. Jay didn't stop; still walking forward as a shadow swooped down to the snail Pokemon.

His Unfezant helped his comrade onto it's back, earning a thankful cry from the armored creature. As the bird flapped its wings, taking off towards the boy's direction; Jay turned to his clone as he walked, "Do you need to stay in that form?"

The clone only looked to him, a haughty snicker coming from his smirking mouth. Rolling his eyes, Jay stopped in front of the Ranger. Nodding his head to the ranger, he introduced himself.

"My name is Jay. And you must be the Ranger they assigned to me," noticing the man's confused look, he gestured his head towards the twin. "This isn't my brother, if that was what you were thinking. Zoroark, out of that form now."

A pout came the clone's face, his expression then turning to that of annoyed compliance. A bright, pink light enveloped him; transforming into it's bipedal fox form. Holding up a scarlet claw, Zoroark swept its ponytail to the back of its hair; sending a droll smirk to the Ranger.

"This troublemaker is my Zoroark," Jay stated.

Soon, his Unfezant-with Shelmet riding, landed on his right side; Jay turning his head to nod at their arrival.

"And these are my other two; Unfezant and my Shelmet," he introduced; both Pokemon greeting the Ranger.

Jay turned back to the Ranger, a small smirk on his face; "We ready to go?"

    Ranger "Prose" Ignatius

    (-)

Prose saw the two figures coming over the hill leading to the docks. As they drew closer, Prose saw that they were both slightly shorter than average with identical features: blonde hair and green eyes. Behind the twins was a small helmet bouncing on the ground after them. This must have been the Shelmet; one could tell by the spiral-shape jutting from behind it.

At first Prose thought one of the many angry Unfezant had escaped from its new home after the Outer Heavens “blew up,” but instead of trying to make a meal of the Bug-type, it let Shelmet ride on its back.

As they drew closer, Prose noticed the faded dark aura around one of them. The normal one turned to the other and said something that caused the second to smile and laugh. The two “boys” stood in front of Prose, both about head shorter than the ranger.

“My name is Jay. Any you must be the Ranger they assigned to me,” said the normal boy.

Prose turned to look at the second could clearly see the darkness surrounding this boy. He had a pretty good idea what it was, but Jay had beaten him to the reveal.

“This isn’t my brother, if that was what you were thinking. Zoroark, out of that form now,” he commanded.

Zoroark released her illusion, dissipating the darkness that Prose had seen, revealing her black fox form. Zoroark bushed back her crimson body-length ponytail with her claws and smirked at him. If she only knew what this ranger could do, but he didn’t want to reveal his secrets to the park, so why should he to this trainer.

“This is trouble maker is my Zoroark,” the blonde said as his Unfezant landed to my left. “These are my other two; Unfezant and my Shelmet.”

“Quaint,” Prose said lifting himself from the tree.

    “We ready to go?”

“Yes, it is not that far.”

Prose took his hands out of his pockets and started towards the Valley. It wasn’t the longest trip or the most difficult. The trail was a simple dirt path aligned with trees that provided shelter from the sun. Rays spotted through like little dots on the earth. After about seven minutes, Prose happened upon the top of the hill. Before the two was a deathly deep valley that was several miles long. To the left of them was the forest acting as a barrier between the Valley and the Power Plant, while to the right lay the outskirts of the Great Lakes. However, neither of them was getting a visit today.

“There is a lift over here. It isn’t that big, since most trainers keep their Pokémon in Pokéballs,” Prose said to Jay.

Jay could listen to the ranger, or just have his Zoroark illusion into Unfezant so that the Pokémon could stay out of their balls. Either way, the two entered the wooden lift, which creaked under their weight. Prose started pulling on the rope to let them slowly down, giving Jay a chance to look all around the Valley.

The two reached the bottom and walked onto the large fields of grass and flowers. The river running through the center of the Valley provided just enough water to keep the lower sections of the Valley green, but there were still smaller hills that lead to some caves higher off the ground.

Before Prose could ask where Jay would like to head to, he heard some noise coming from the bushes nearby. Had a Pokémon been waiting patiently for someone to arrive?

A large cyan head with arrow-like markings popped out and started coming towards us. When it rushed out of the leaves, it was revealed to be an Elgyem, a Psychic-type Pokémon. This would have been a perfect start to the expedition, as Jay had only brought Parkballs, which captured Basic Pokémon only. The little Elgyem pointed his multicolored fingers towards Jay and cried out.

“Elgyem wants to battle you. Do you wish to comply?” Prose asked.

As Jay began to walk with the Ranger, he took note of his Shelmet's hesitance; her armor-clad body shaking like a leaf in a blizzard, helmet closed down on her face. It was to be expected, as she was the only one who hadn't evolved. However, Jay was not one to accept anything less than pure confidence from his teammates.

"Shelmet, at ease. There is no reason to be afraid," he assured the snail Pokemon. "We have a Ranger with us. Nothing shall go wrong, I promise," he promised her.

The helmet opened, revealing her unsure expression. "Shel?" she was always willing to believe in him, but she had doubted her own abilities above all else. Multiple losses in the future did that to a person...

Unfezant had a look of compassion on her face, turning his head back to check on her. It was obvious that she needed comfort, and Unfezant was one to provide it. He cherished companionship above all else, considering his own terrible abandonment by his previous Trainer.

Zoroark, however, maintained an less-than-compassionate air about her; only looking back with a critical sideways glance before turning back to her Trainer, who walked on as he conversed with the Ranger.

"There is a lift over here. It isn’t that big, since most trainers keep their Pokémon in Pokéballs," the Ranger had informed them.

Jay only shook his head. There was no need for a Pokeball. Turning to Zoroark, he commanded; "Zoroark, Transform into Unfezant."

She only huffed, crossing her arms. Her expression practically spelled defiance.

"Just do it," Jay said exasperatedly. He had no time to deal with her insubordination, no matter how long they've known one another.

Zoroark clicked her tongue, crossing her arms as she held her nose in the air. "Hm?" Looking into the air, she spotted an airborne Pokemon. Thoroughly amazed at its grace, she looked back to Jay; smirking. "Hehe," snickering, a bright pink light enveloped her; her form shifting to that of the Pidgeotto.

Jay's eyebrow raised in confusion, looking up at the bird as it passed by quickly. Why would Zoroark choose... whatever. Sighing in defeat, Jay could only shake his head. "Fine, keep that form..."

Zoroark responded with a triumphant cry. Her disobedience fit her Naughty Nature, that was for sure.

Jay turned to the Ranger, nodding as he stepped onto the lift. Pidgeotto followed, the three turning back to Unfezant and Shelmet. "Return you two. I'll call you out when I need you, okay?" Jay held out two Pokeballs, the spheres zapping the two Pokemon with red rays; them disappearing into one each.

Jay looked to 'Pidgeotto', "You be on your best behavior, got it?"

Pidgeotto only sent him a devious smile, the sides of its beak upturned. It was clear that his orders would not get through to her.

As the lift, maneuvered by the Ranger, came to a stop; Jay got a good look at the Valley; it's winding paths and the river below fascinating him deeply. It was certainly a place where Pokemon would dwell.

Jay had been meaning to ask where they were going, however a rustling in nearby bushes distracted him; effectively derialing his train of thought.

As the Elgyem came out, it pointed its hands at Jay. Jay obviously knew Elgyem wanted a battle.

“Elgyem wants to battle you. Do you wish to comply?” his Ranger offered.

Jay would usually jump at the chance to battle a Pokemon, however; his eyes were set on a much different prize. Shaking his head, he reached into his bag; pulling out a rectangular container. Opening it, he set it down in front of the Elgyem; bits of homemade Pokemon food inside of the container. A delicious aroma erupted from it.

Jay watched as the Elgyem's face contorted into that of confusion, though he only smiled.

"Eat up, you'll like it," he assured to the Pokemon.

'Pidgeotto' and the Ranger could only watch as the blonde attempted to feed the Pokemon. He seemed to be so serious and edgy...

    Was he bipolar?

@JayKashiki OCC: In the future, if you want to, you put in your own “OCC” that you’ll spend money on a Pokedoll if the roll failed. If the roll doesn’t fail, you keep the money; else you lose the money and use a Pokedoll, obviously. But since you want to battle, that doesn’t apply here! Also, what gender would you like Elgyem to be?

Jay shook his head in reply, reaching into his bag and pulling out a small tin box. The trainer then walked up and set the container down, which was revealed to have Pokémon food inside. Prose watched as Elgyem tilted its head, wondering what the heck Jay was doing.

“Eat up, you’ll like it,” Jay said.

Prose looked at Zoroark, who now appeared as a Pidgeotto, the bird-like Pokémon native to Kanto where he worked as a scientist for Silph Co., and saw her shake her head. Jay didn’t seem to have a good handle on his Zoroark, as Jay commanded his Zoroark to change into his Unfezant.

The ranger turned back to Elgyem to see how it would react. The Cerebral Pokémon just kicked the food away. It wasn’t here for food; Elgyem must have had enough from living in the Valley to be able to feed itself. It lifted its three-digit hand, one digit green, one red and one yellow, which all started to glow with multicolored light.

“Elgyem is using Psybeam,” Prose calmly said. He believed that if Jay wanted to get so close to a wild Pokémon, he should be able to deal with the consequences.

Jay jumped back but Elgyem already started firing the wave of psychic energy. Luckily for Jay, a large winged silhouette flew between the two, taking the attack to its back. It was Zoroark, still disguised. At first Prose thought that this was a strange way for a Naughty Pokémon like Zoroark to behave, but then realized that it was just trying to make Elgyem angry as the attack wouldn’t affect her. She crackled mischievously at the little Elgyem.

Prose contemplated on how interesting it was that Zoroark’s Illusion was maintained, as Prose didn’t collect much data on them, due to their rarity. He quickly surmised that it was because Zoroark didn’t receive any damage from the Psychic-type attack.

“Lucky for you, Jay. Be careful next time; not all Pokémon in the park will like being fed,” Prose said as he walked to a boulder a few feet from them and leaned against it. “Now, let’s see a good show.” Prose was very interested in seeing Zoroark battle and collecting data.

Confused that its attack seemed to do nothing, Elgyem back up a few feet and tried another; this time its whole body started to glow white as it started to form a shining orb in front of it. It was using Hidden Power, a move which dealt varying amounts of damage and could be any elemental type. Prose wondered how Jay would deal with such an unpredictable attack.

@sorocoroto: Okay, thanks for the tip. That Elgyem is an asshole... I LIKE IT! And make it male plz.
    -----------
The Elgyem kicked the food out of the way, it's face set in a determined stare. As it brought up its multi-colored fingers; it powered what the Ranger identified as a Psybeam. Jay however, knew this was coming. And as a flying figure landed in front of him; sponging the beam like it was nothing, Jay smirked at the offensive Cerebral.

“Lucky for you, Jay. Be careful next time; not all Pokémon in the park will like being fed,” the Ranger had warned him.

Jay only answered, "I was putting it in a false sense of security. However, this Pokemon is more perceptive than most, I see," Jay mused as Pidgeotto took it's position.

The Cerebral Pokemon looked outright surprised that the attack hadn't worked; and that was exactly what Jay was looking for. "Now, Zo-um, Pidgeotto, fly at Elgyem!"

'Pidegotto' rushed at the Pokemon with it's newly obtained wings; seeing the oncoming Hidden Power coming at it. Smirking, Pidgeotto; ducked to the side, it's eyes glowing as it began plotting the Elgyem's defeat.

"Agility!" Using an Agility, Pidgeotto enhanced its dodging speed; surely thinking it would be enough to overcome the foe. This is what Jay was waiting for. Nasty Plot was already set. It was time to start it.

“I was putting it a false sense of security. However, this Pokémon is more perceptive than most, I see,” Jay responded to Prose. “Now, Zo-um, Pidgeotto, fly at Elgyem.”

The disguised Zoroark charged forward. Despite it not actually having wings, Zoroark still appeared to be soaring rather than running. Elgyem’s attack had been fired, sending the pulse of energy toward Zoroark. She had a wicked look on her face, mind you a Pidgeotto’s faces, as she tried dodging away.

    “Agility!” Jay commanded his Zoroark.

Right in the nick of time, Zoroark managed to dash away with the boost of beginning Agility, causing the Hidden Power to fly towards the lift. Prose thought the chances of the move being something harmful was slim, and he was relieved to see the attack splash right off the wood. It had been a Water-type. If it had been a Fire-type, the lift might have started to burn

Prose watched as Zoroark soared right past Elgyem. In order to get the full effects of Agility, the Pokémon needed to build up enough speed, which was lucky that we were in a large open area. However, this gave Elgyem enough time to use another attack. He raised his hands to his large forehead, and cyan body began to spark all over.

Prose thought that this was smart for Elgyem, as he thought that his opponent was a Flying-type. Elgyem gathered up a large yellow orb, which then fired a stream of cackling electricity towards Zoroark. Zoroark had just turned around after getting the speed boost of Agility and didn’t have time to dodge the Charge Beam, which hit her in the “wing.” However, unlike Flying-types, Zoroark didn’t get shocked as bad. Her Illusion, though, had faded, revealing her true form to Elgyem, who was still sparking from the attack. His skin was still teeming with energy that he could use later on in the fight.

Zoroark didn’t seem too pleased getting hit, stomping her foot on the ground. Elgyem looked like his suspicions were confirmed. It was understandable that Elgyem might have encountered a Zorua or Zoroark in the Valley. Now he was ready.

Prose just gazed on, wanting to watch Zoroark use an attack after she seemed to howl as she flew, telling the ranger that Zoroark had increased her Special Attack with a Nasty Plot.

    ---------------------
Jay watched with amazement as the Hidden Powers were used. It was obvious this Elgyem knew what it was doing, and not only that; but it had an answer to each problem that it could encounter. Jay knew he would have a run for his money in this battle.

However, as the Elgyem raised its arms to its head; ominous electricity charging into being, Jay's awe immediately turned to pure trepidation. "Zoroark, look out!"

Seeing the Elgyem's face gain a look of surprise, Jay mentally slapped himself. Not only had he underestimated this Pokemon, but he had conpromised his own's disguise.

The beam of electrically charged energy smashed into Zoroark's "wing", knocking her out of her illusion. Jay knew he had to be careful. Charge Beam, while not the most powerful of attacks; had that sneaky effect of raising Special Attack.

Zoroark seemed thorougly pissed, stomping her clawed foot in a tantrum. Growling lowly, she glared at the glowing Elgyem. Her eyes gained another ominous glow, another one of her Nasty Plots empowering her. However Jay knew that if things continued like this, her 'Nasty Plots' might become Premeditated Murder.

"Zoroark, calm down and just think! We've encountered more Pokemon than this! Just change into one with alot of speed!" Jay reminded his Pokemon.

Zoroark, actually listening for once, thought back. She knew Elgyem was powering an attack, but she had to remember.

And that's when it hit her, her entire being turning pink. Her form became much smaller. Scarf-like appendages grew in an instant, billowing behind her.

Out of the flash, which they hoped had distracted Elgyem enough; came an Accelgor.

Jay's eyes widened. It was perfect! "Accelgor, Agility once more!" Utilizing the species's extreme amounts of speed, Zoroark dashed almost unseen toward Elgyem; skitting left to right to dodge any oncoming attacks.

"Now, Night Daze!" Jay commanded. Zoroark complied, flipping over the cyan colored Pokemon; her body glowing with dark energy. "Now do it!" As she landed, her superpowered Night Daze erupted behind the Pokemon.

Zoroark stood up after getting hit, slashing at the ground in anger. The black fox howled once again, her eyes glowing dark purple, another Nasty Plot attack.

“Zoroark, calm down and just think! We’ve encountered more Pokémon than this! Just change into one with a lot of speed!”

To Prose’s surprise, Zoroark complied and contorted her body into a smaller blobby form. It had a pink head with green stripes and a cross like indent. It was also wrapped in a blue mummy like cloth. It was an Accelgor, which was one of the fastest Bug-type Pokémon.

“Accelgor, Agility once more!” Jay commanded with excitement.

Prose wondered why Jay bothered on referring to his Zoroark in such a way, as Elgyem knew exactly had happened; he was on to Zoroark’s ability.

Zoroark sped back and forth through the field, gaining enough of a speed boost. Elgyem, however, took this opportunity to prepare his own move. His bright green eyes turned red, and a blue aura appeared around him.

    “Now, Night Daze!” Jay said.

Zoroark nodded her pink head and rushed towards Elgyem, jumping over her opponent. Elgyem remained calm and turned around to see the “Bug” Pokémon radiating a crimson haze of dark energy. Zoroark’s eyes shone a light blue, and she raised her blue arms over her head. She slammed her arms down into the ground, but as she did, Elgyem did something unexpected.

Elgyem smirked and snapped his fingers. All of a sudden, large light-blue walls appeared around the battlefield along with a ceiling, effectively trapping us within this room. The blue walls faded, but Prose watched as Elgyem nearly disappeared from sight.

Elgyem just used Trick Room, a move which makes a fast Pokémon slow, and vice versa. Elgyem had studied his opponent well and took advantage of the stat boosts. After closer inspection, Elgyem rushed towards Zoroark, who was now moving slower. He reached about two feet away when Zoroark’s arms finally made contact with the ground, releasing a giant wave of purple and crimson energy towards Elgyem.

In his haste, he tried to jump high into the air to avoid the attack, but he couldn’t dodge it completely. Even though Zoroark had been slowed in comparison, her moves would be produced in real time. Elgyem took a large hit to his lower body; even though it was only a partial hit, Zoroark’s Nasty Plots had increased her Special Attack greatly.

Elgyem cringed, but he shook it off and fell head first towards Zoroarkt. Elgyem knocked into Zoroark with a Headbutt with enough momentum to cause her to release her Illusion once again as she stumbled back. Zoroark didn’t seem too fazed though, as even though Elgyem had speed on his side, he didn’t have much physical strength.

Elgyem jumped back so that he was at well enough position to try to use another ranged attack, but Prose couldn’t tell what that was yet.

Initially surprised, Jay's eyes had widened as the Trick Room formed around them; its speed inversion taking effect almost immediately. However, Jay only wore a serious look as he watched Zoroark's form shifted back to her normal self.

Landing on two feet, she growled at Elgyem ferally; her eyes fiercely trained on the Cerebral. Her claws were ready for him, calling for blood, and frankly; Jay couldn't blame her. Elgyem was obviously a tough customer.

However, Jay wasn't one to give up during a tough time. As Elgyem began to ready itself for a ranged attack, Jay narrowed his eyes. Now was the time to pull it.

"Zoroark, on all fours!" Jay commanded.

Zoroark wanted nothing more than to rip Elgyem apart, and thus; she did not budge.

Jay sneered. "Zoroark, obey the order! Please!" Jay pleaded with the Illusory Fox. However, she did not budge; glaring straight ahead as Elgyem began powering an attack.

Jay began to shake with annoyance... then a sly grin stretched across his face. "Oh well..." he said lowly. "I guess you aren't strong, after all. It seems that it was a waste of time to bring you to the Park."

And Zoroark turned to him, confusion lining her face.

"What, are you surprised? You're just weak by nature, I guess. Pity," Jay internally chuckled as he saw her rile up.

The fox's teeth bared angrily, growling at her blonde trainer. Turning back to Elgyem, she got on all fours. With a shrill cry, she rushed at the cyan Pokemon; skitting from side to side with her to dodge any incoming attacks. Her crimson ponytail waved violently as she dashed with almost reckless abandon at the smug Cerebral Pokemon. She was somewhat hindered by the Trick Room; however, she tried to manage as much as she could.

In was so easy to get her angry. "Now, U-Turn!"

Zoroark began to glow a luminous white light as she rushed on her fours at Elgyem, her body suddenly becoming an orb of harsh white light.

The orb rushed at Elgyem, hoping to smash into it.

Once Zoroark switched into Shelmet; Jay's capture could begin smoothly.

    “Zoroark, on all fours!”

The fox glared at Jay and then at Elgyem, whose body started to glow white again. It seemed like Zoroark knew what move Jay was preparing, and didn’t like it.

“Oh well… I guess you aren’t strong, after all. It seems that it was a waste of time to bring you to the Park.”

    Zoroark looked towards Jay confusingly.

“What, are you surprised? You're just weak by nature, I guess. Pity.” Jay grinned as his Zoroark started to growl at her trainer.

Prose smirked for Jay knew exactly what buttons to press to get his Zoroark to obey him. Naughty Pokémon like this one were easily riled up. Zoroark angrily rushed towards the Cerebral Pokémon. Despite how angry she was, the Trick Room had hindered her movement to Elgyem. A white orb appeared in front of his face, turning into a blue hue. Elgyem used Hidden Power again, and the pulsing energy ball came towards Zoroark.

Zoroark’s reaction time was still pretty good, due to her anger, and she managed to move to the side and just get clipped by the attack.

    “Now, U-Turn!” Jay commanded.

Zoroark’s body emitted a white light as she galloped towards her opponent. She soon became a giant ball of blinding light that crashed into her opponent. Elgyem flew back, landing on the ground bruised. Zoroark remained in the ball and turned back towards Jay. Jay held out is Pokéball, and the white energy converted into red as it rushed back into it.

U-turn caused the Pokémon to deal damage and then return to its ball before the opponent could damage it further. It used the same energy that was used to capture a Pokémon in a Pokéball. While it didn’t have to return to the ball, it was recommended, as there could be side effects if the Pokémon returned its normal form. Plus, it might be a good idea so that Zoroark wouldn’t try to take out her anger by attacking Elgyem while Jay was using another Pokémon.

Prose would have to step in if that happened. Two on one wasn’t fair.

But, Prose thought that it wasn’t a bad move, as it would get rid of the speed boosts that hindered Zoroark within the Trick Room, and it would cause Elgyem to have to switch strategies. He waited as Jay chose his next Pokémon.

It was all going according to plan! Jay would definitely catch this Pokemon! He knew he would!

As Zoroark whizzed back into the Pokeball, a smirk came across his face as his next ball erupted with a white light. Out of the ball came his Shelmet, who bounced on the ground as she came out abruptly.

Letting out a sound of confusion, Shelmet turned to her trainer; her eyes half lidded. Obviously, she had been asleep inside of her Pokeball.

"Shelmet, pay attention!" he commanded her.

Her eyes opened wide, turning back to Elgyem who began to power another attack. The cyan Pokemon sure reacted quick to things, that was for sure. Shelmet looked absolutely trepidated, which surprised Jay. Normally, she was very brash and violent...

"Shelmet, calm down and use Iron Defense!" Jay yelled to her.

Shelmet bounced a bit at his yell, turning back to Elgyem quickly as her steel gained almost three times the durability and weight, the silver gleaming with power. The Snail Pokemon became rooted to the ground, hoping the increased weight would be enough for her to endure an attack.

"Now, String Shot!" Shelmet reacted immediately, firing a white silk from her puckered lips. The string barreled toward Elgyem. If it hit, it would trap it from movement.

And Jay made sure he had his Pokeball ready when it did.

Jay had summoned his Shelmet, the armored Bud-type Pokémon. She turned to her trainer, seeming rather tired, as if she was taking a nap inside her ball.

    “Shelmet, pay attention!” Jay said.

Shelmet hopped around to face Elgyem, who started planning a way to deal with this new foe.

"Shelmet, calm down and use Iron Defense!"

She bounced around on her stubby metal feet, and her armor started to glow. The metal helmet that she wore began to gleam brightly as it gained new layers to increase her defense.

    “Now, String Shot” Jay commanded.

Shelmet opened up her visor and released a thread of sticky fluid out of her pink mouth. The String Shot glided towards Elgyem, but he was prepared. As the silk wrapped around his legs, he lifted his arm, which started to glow blue, and gestured towards it. The String Shot had halted its bandaging, becoming surrounded in a bluish haze. Elgyem pulled telekinetically on the string, pulling Shelmet over Elgyem’s head and slamming her to the ground.

Prose thought that Jay had good instincts, going for defensive power at first, but he couldn’t help but wonder why Jay decided to use a move that reduced a Pokémon’s speed while Trick Move was still up. Elygem would now be moving slightly faster against all of Jay’s Pokémon.

Shelmet stood back up after releasing her string, shaking off the minor blow.

Elgyem wasted no time and prepared a Psybeam attack by lifting his left hand and charging the psychic energy into it.

As Elgyem began powering the Psychic energy into his hand, Jay knew he had to act fast.

"Shelmet, Bug Buzz quick!" as commanded, Shelmet let out a loud, grating buzz; shockwaves of insectoid energy rippling from her armored body.

If the attack worked, Elgyem would be effectively distracted.

Hoping that the shockwave would subdue Elgyem long enough, Jay decided that now was the best chance to perform the capture. Reaching toward a part of his Pokeball belt, he took out an empty Parkball.

"Now, capture on!" Throwing the ball, it rushed at Elgyem; the Cerebral Pokemon being abrsorbed inside.

As it dropped to the ground, Jay watched it wiggle ominously; mentally crossing his fingers for a successful capture.

“Shelmet, Bug Buzz, quick!” Jay commanded.

Shelmet began to shake. His armor vibrated against his pink snail-like body. The air started to ripple around it, creating red shockwaves that traveled to Elgyem. Elgyem was still preparing his move, but had to stop in order to cover where Prose believed to be his ears. Elgyem stumbled onto one knee and began to look drowsy.

Jay reached into the back of his belt and readied an empty Parkball. “Now, capture on!” he yelled as he tossed the ball at Elgyem, hitting him in his head.

The Cerebral Pokémon transformed into energy and was absorbed into the brown and green Pokéball. Prose contemplated the complicated series of code and engineering that went into making such a feat possible as he watched it wiggle on the ground.

It shook three times before sounding out a successful capture.

“Congrats,” Prose said as he walked over to pick up the Parkball. “Regulations say that I have to hold on to any Pokémon you capture in the park until the end of the run. But, good job on catching your first Pokémon in the Park.”

He saw to his Pokémon, which didn’t seem to take much damage. It was still pretty early, so Prose didn’t think that it would be a problem until much later in the afternoon. He had brought along some medicinal herbs that Jay could purchase later on, but there didn’t seem a need to now.

Prose walked ahead, leading Jay further into the Valley. The lush grass swayed as the cool breeze rushed by. Soon, the two found themselves at the river, which was very shallow. Here Prose could lead Jay on three paths.

“So, Jay, where do you think you’d like to go? There is a lake downstream that might have some Pokémon trying to get a morning drink. There are the caves ahead of us, which usually have the more fightning Pokémon lurking within their caverns. And lastly, we could walk upstream along the river. We can always go another path after we visited one.”

As the ball began to wiggle, Jay could only think of how tenacious the Elgyem had been. It was obviously extremely serious about how it attacked, and was more than capable of taking damage from attacks that transcend its typing. He wouldn't be surprised if the hardy cyan Pokemon broke free from the sphere.

However, it didn't. And Jay's eyes widened. "I-I did it..." he couldn't believe it. His first Pokemon... on his first try. He did it!

Jay smirked, bending to one knee; his hand reaching out to Shelmet, petting the small Pokemon's helmet. "Great work Shelmet. Couldn't have done it without you," he stated, smiling to the Snail.

Shelmet let out a cry of gratitude, jumping into the blonde's arms. Smiling, Jay took out the young one's Pokeball. "Take a rest. I'll call for you when I need you later," he returned the Snail, storing the Pokeball back on his belt.

“Congrats,” he heard the Ranger say.

Turning to him, Jay nodded as the man walked past him. "Thanks," he responded; his smirk still very much present.

The Ranger picked up the Parkball, turning back to the blonde; “Regulations say that I have to hold on to any Pokémon you capture in the park until the end of the run. But, good job on catching your first Pokémon in the Park."

The younger male could understand perfectly. It was only natural that the Rangers would keep your caught Pokemon under check as you traversed the Park. But for now, Jay could keep walking.
    _____
The two remained walking at a steady pace, the Ranger leading Jay through the valley. Jay hadn't had the chance to take in the scenery completely before his unexpected encounter with Elgyem.

However, looking at it now; Jay was able to fully marvel at its beauty. The river that passed by them was crystal clear, shining like immaculate glass. A little ahead were some caves. The Ranger had warned him that the Pokemon inside were frightening.

However, Jay knew frightening just meant powerful... right?

However, he didn't want to take chances. At least, not now. "We can go to the lake area for now," Jay responded.

Throwing up a Pokeball, a white light erupted from it; the blonde's Unfezant flapping its wings as it materialized. Letting out a cry, the bird Pokemon looked down to its Trainer, ready for its command.

"Unfezant, scout forward and tell me how many Pokemon you can see," Jay commanded.

Unfezant let out yet another cry, speeding downstream.

Turning to the Ranger, Jay smiled. "We can go," Jay stated, letting the Ranger walk in front as he followed. However, Jay knew to stay on high alert.

    For his own reasons, too.

Maybe it was a mirage. But, out of the corner of the blonde's eye; he thought he saw a black furred quadruped tailing after them.

“We can go to the lake area for now,” Jay said to his ranger. He released his Unfezant into the air, and he soared through the air waiting for a command. “Unfezant, scout forward and tell me how many Pokémon you can see.”

The large bird with the extravagant red mask-like face and the bright green underbelly flew down the small stream towards the lake. Sure he would be able to see many Pokémon in the Valley, but not all Pokémon here want to fight. They were too fickle at times. Sometimes they would be raring to go for a fight, while other times they just wanted to lounge around and have fun. Some even stray away from trainers.

“We can go,” Jay said as he followed behind Prose.

Prose led on, passing by some very tall grass. Surely there might be some Pokémon daring enough to challenge the ranger. Prose remembered hearing about a few Dark-type Pokémon that were banding together and starting a fight. Maybe Jay could help step in. It would lighten Prose’s load, and Jay could potentially gain a strong Pokémon.

Prose noticed Jay start to hang back, so he turned. Behind them was a small grey wolf cub with black fur on its face, which accentuated his yellow and red eyes, black underbelly and dark paws. It bore its fangs and growled at Jay, clearly wanting to fight.

“Poochyena seems to want a battle. I suggest not getting too close to this one.” Prose could sense the overly excited Pokémon’s emotions from where he was standing.

It seemed to be restraining itself from just lunging at Jay, waiting for the trainer to send out a Pokémon. If need be, Prose could easily step in the way, but he waited to see Jay’s reaction.

OOC: Sorry for the super late reply. URPG things have kept me busy.

Jay only turned as he heard the growling. He was definitely prepared by this point. Doing a half about-face, Jay turned to look at the small pooch Pokemon; its small body poised to lunge at the blonde.

“Poochyena seems to want a battle. I suggest not getting too close to this one,” Prose had warned him. And Jay knew his warning was to be heeded, as the Poochyena seemed to be thristing for blood.

Obviously a much more dangerous enemy. However, as his hair shadowed his eyes; Jay only smirked. "Alright then."

Almost in an instant, an exact replica of the boy walked from behind him, smirking a devilish grin. Jay lifted his head, his eyes determined; a smirk mirroring both of the boy's faces.

Zoroark narrowed her eyes, her grin widening as she stepped out into the field. She knew that her Trainer's smirk meant that he was well aware of the type of enemy being faced... and he was ready, no doubt.

"Zoroark, get ready for battle," he told his Pokemon. She only snickered as she crouched, assessing the Poochyena's reaction. Almost instantly, she rushed into battle; running at speeds no ordinary human body could even reach. And as she ran, she instinctively ducked to the side to try to avoid any incoming attacks; her body glowing white as she began to speed up with an Agility.

“Alright then.” Jay pulled a Pokéball from his belt and released it behind himself.

He hid the white light and out from the ball came Zoroark disguised as his trainer; the two smirking in unison. Prose could still see dark aura around the illusioned Dark-type. The copy-Jay’s smirk turned in to an unnaturally evil grin as she laughed at Poochyena. Poochyena was surprised for an instant, but went right back into a pouncing position.

“Zoroark, get ready for battle,” Jay said.

Jay’s duplicate started running towards Poochyena, her arms draped behind the human-form she took. Streaks of white light started to form as she started to gain speed for her Agility.

Poochyena lowered its head and bore its fangs, grinning widely towards Zoroark. Its eyes glimmered a purple tint, sending out a similar covered wave towards its opponent. When the thin wave hit Zoroark, she immediately stopped her running. She then growled at Poochyena and started to run at a normal human pace.

“Looks like this one wants a head to head battle,” Prose said commenting on Poochyena’s decision to use Taunt, a move which stops a Pokémon from using non-Damaging moves.

However, Zoroark was now in the fighting spirit and started swiping furiously with Jay’s hands and feet at Poochyena. Poochyena dodged a few, but Zoroark managed to strike Poochyenas rib cage and head before backing off.

Poochyena shook off the attack and bit onto Zoroark as she stepped away. Right at that moment, Poochyena’s mouth was set ablaze, and Zoroark yelped in pain as the Illusion faded. Zoroark swung her leg around trying to get Poochyena off of her, but the Bite Pokémon dug deeper.

Jay had many options here, and Prose wondered how he would decide to remove the little wolf pup from his Pokémon’s limb.

Jay remained calm as the Poochyena's Fire Fang dug into Zoroark's leg, the Illusory Fox yelping in agony. Narrowing his eyes, Jay swiped his arm; "Zoroark, Foul Play!"

The fox growled angrily, her body beginning to glow luminously as she raised an arm. Swiping it down; piercing the wind with a light stream, she smashed the Pooch in it's head.

Reeling back, Zoroark performed a quick backwards flip; propelling herself toward a tree to ricochet from it. As she began to descend, her arms became coated in luminous energy.

A Night Daze? So early? Well, Jay couldn't blame her in the least.

Zoroark's arms became coated in a dark blob of sinister energy, and smashing them onto the ground; a purple hemisphere of explosive dark energy erupted around the battlefield.
