“Crobat, I want you to use Cross Poison, get as close as you can and then use teddy bear instead,” Alex commanded. I couldn't help but really wonder here what he meant. Teddy Bear could have meant anything, he could have been referring to a person, a Teddiursa, or just simply a stuffed toy. It really made me wonder what he was planning here. I'm sure it was some sort of attack in coding, as I'd seen that sort of thing been done during the first time I took a trainer through the park, but what was this one? Was it a regular attack, or was it some sort of combo. I guess I was about to find out, but of course not before Gardevoir had something to say about this.

Teddy Bear? I've heard nicknamed attack before, but certainly nothing like that one.

Yeah, tell me about it. That's certainly a unique way of giving a command. Naming it Teddy Bear like that. But let's just wait back, and see what this is.

Crobat's wings begun to change a different shade of purple. This shade was darker than its normal wings, and more ominous looking too. Its wings were now infused with poisonous energy. This was because Cross Poison was a Poison-type attack, that could inflict the Poison status onto the foe. Not only that, but it could also cause a critical hit. It was odd though, because Alex wasn't having Cross Poison be used as a damaging attack, but rather as a starter attack, and then shift the move. Poison was super effective against Shroomish so it could have made a dent in it, but maybe he was concerned about the chance of the critical hit or something.

Crobat's took flight over at Shroomish, but this little guy wasn't one for punishment. As Crobat got close enough to it, Shroomish jumped up into the air, and away from Crobat. Unfortunately for it though it now had no where else to go. Crobat did a 180 turn, turning the front of its body towards the jumping Shroomish. Crobat then used the momentum it had from the Cross Poison it made, but didn't use, and quickly slashed at the air. In this case it seemed as though "Teddy Bear" had meant Air Slash. Crobat struck away at the air, and one of the slashes nailed Shroomish head on, and sent it crashing into the ground. I guess it was a good thing that Cross Poison wasn't meant to hit, because had it done so, well that with Air Slash could have very easily knocked this thing out.

Though Shroomish was wounded, it wasn't defeated. It seemed to have a purpose now, and that was to hurt Crobat. Shroomish took one of its stubby legs, and kicked at the ground. From there then erupted some seeds, and raced towards Crobat at an incredible pace. Shroomish had used Seed Bomb. Just your standard Grass-type attack with no fancy tricks. The seeds slapped Crobat's body, and although Crobat was quadruple resistant to Grass-type attacks, it still winced in pain, and flew back a bit, somewhat shaky. Now that Alex had seen some of what Shroomish could do despite being outclassed by Crobat, I did have to wonder what he would do next.

“Crobat, I want you to use Cross Poison, get as close as you can and then use teddy bear instead,” Alex said.

Alex started to wonder if there was a better code name than Teddy Bear, maybe something like Blading or Code X. It seemed strange and Alex started to wonder where the nickname came from. It must have been inspired by something Alex had seen or even watched to relate it to Air Slash. Alex slowly focused back onto the battle; however the thought of the origin of the nickname still lingered in the back of his head.

Crobat flew high into the sky, directly in front of the shinning sun. Then Crobat’s wings suddenly changed colour, turning from a light purple into a dark more sinister colour. Then Crobat tucked his head in and soared down towards Shroomish. His wings started to glow dully as the poison energy seeped through his wings. As soon as Crobat was about a couple a metres away, Shroomish quickly leaped back, dodging the so-called attack. Unfortunately, the Shroomish was trapped now and couldn’t dodge the inevitable.

Using the power generated from the Cross Poison, Crobat steered himself around a pivot and moved 180 degrees. Crobat stood opposite Shroomish and started to slash at the air. The poison energy quickly dissipated and Crobat used the energy and started to create small banana-like shapes from the air. Then Crobat sent the banana-like shapes hurling towards Shroomish. Shroomish couldn’t dodge the attacks and braced himself as the banana-like shapes smashed against his skin.

Shroomish looked up at Crobat and didn’t give up. Shroomish stamped one of his stubbly feet on the ground. Then suddenly a dozen of seeds erupted from the mouth of Shroomish, and flew towards Crobat. The seeds smashed into the Bat Pokemon, putting the target off balance. It looked like that the move was Seed Bomb, a standard physical Grass move. Although Crobat was quadruple resistant to Grass-type attacks, it still cause some upset for him.

Alex realized that this Shroomish was a trixy fella and it had to be stopped sooner or later. Alex looked up at the Bat Pokemon and said, “Crobat, use Haze and then follow it up with Poison Fang.”

Alex had hoped that Haze would create a blanket in between the Shroomish and Crobat. This manoeuvre also would probably generate confusion for the Shroomish and also hopefully it wouldn’t be able to see the Crobat coming.

“Crobat, use Haze and then follow it up with Poison Fang,” Alex commanded. I had to wonder what his aim was this time around. Shroomish hadn't used any stat boosting moves, and Crobat didn't have any of its stats reduced, so Haze generally had no use. The only thing I could think of was what I heard someone had done at another run in Mount Oktori. It was my good buddy Eric who did it, he had his Chandelure use Haze to create a layer of fog sort of, making it unable to be seen, and try to get off an attack. I could only guess that was what Alex wanted to do here. He must have been hoping that Shroomish wouldn't be able to tell where Crobat was behind the layer of Haze, and strike at get a good shot in on it. It was crafty, to say the least.

Crobat took in a deep breath, and shortly thereafter it released a black haze from its mouth. Given the nature of this attack you'd think it was a Poison-type move, given the fact that the haze was black in color, surprisingly though it was actually an Ice-type move. I guess it made sense given the fact that it was a counterpart to the move Mist, which too was an Ice-type move. Still though with names like Haze, and Mist you'd think they'd be Poison, and Water-type moves respectively. Every time I took a trainer through the Park, Pokemon in general found a new way to confuse me. Either way though, Crobat released a fairly thick layer, well thick enough where you had trouble seeing, of Haze, and was probably ready to attack. I couldn't really tell, so I needed to ask Gardevoir to use her Psychic powers to help me know.

Hey Gardevoir, can you tell what's going on?

Yes. Shroomish is just standing there, looking confused, and it seems Crobat appears to be ready to strike.

If I remember hearing correctly, then next Crobat was to use Poison Fang. Poison Fang was one of those biting-type attacks. The users teeth would grow a dark shade of purple, and be infused with poison, then they would rush over at the user, and bite down on them like a vampire would do to their prey. This wasn't the strongest Poison-type attack, however it could cause the "Badly Poison" status, which was a variation of the Poison status, generally seen from only Toxic. If that happened, then this Shroomish wouldn't stand much of a chance any longer.

I couldn't see a thing still, so I needed to have Gardevoir let me in on the details. From what I could gather of what she told me, Crobat swooped down at Shroomish, but only partly collided with it. I wasn't sure if Crobat couldn't see it there, or if Shroomish just moved somewhat based on instinct. Either way though you know part of Crobat's teeth hit Shroomish, because you could here the creature scream. You'd scream too probably if you'd just had your flesh hit with some fangs. I thought that maybe Shroomish was going to give up, but apparently it attempted to fight back.

Shroomish had thrown its body in the air, or so I was informed, and directly at Crobat as if Shroomish's body was a weapon. It then went to slam against it. I would guess it was using Body Slam, a move where you throw your body at your opponent, slam down on them, and possibly paralyze them in the process. From what I heard Crobat wasn't fully hit, no doubt due to the Haze, but its right wing was slammed against. This caused Crobat to fly out of the slow dissipating fog, and wait for its next command as it recuperated a little.

“Crobat, use Haze and then follow it up with Poison Fang,” Alex commanded.

Alex knew that Haze was a move that would remove that stat up changes of both Pokemon; however it also served as another use. Alex used to remember watching Police Shows where the Cops would chase the Robbers down the road with their Growlithe’s, and the Robbers had their trusty companions Koffing. Well on one episode, Alex remembered seeing Koffing using Haze and it served as a quick getaway. However looking back, Haze could be seen as a move in which it blocks the opponents view of you. Alex was hopping that Shroomish wouldn’t be able to see the attack coming.

Crobat opened his mouth and produced a thick dark gas from his mouth. It looked like soot or ash from a recently erupted volcano. The thick dark gas quickly settled across the battle field. Alex raised his hands to his eyes and shielded the gas away from his eyes. Alex started to evaluate what had happened so far. He had always evaluated situations because they make you look back on your mistakes and how you would change them. Looking at the thick dark gas in front of him, Alex was blinded to the events that were actually going on. He had lost one of his key senses and now relied on his sound sense.

Then breaking the silent tension, a cry could be heard amongst the thick dark gas. Alex looked more interested now and started to wonder where the noise had come from. Was it Crobat, had the move gone wrong? Or was it Shroomish and the move had caused too much damage? So many questions filled Alex’s head with little answers.

Then out of the blue, Alex heard a huge slamming noise coming from the smoke. Alex started to work out the situation at hand. He looked closer into the gas, trying to see some shadows of the Pokemon. To his astonishment, Alex was able to pick out both Pokemon; however the smaller of the two shadows was onto of a longer shadow. Alex had guessed that the smaller shadow was Shroomish, and it had used Body Slam on Crobat. The shadow on the bottom quickly took off into the air, brushing away the gas on the ground. Alex’s guess was right and he noticed that Crobat had taken some serious damage from that attack.

Alex knew that if he was to win this battle, he would need to have visual contact with Crobat at all times. He looked up at Crobat and shouted, “Crobat use Supersonic and then follow it up with Air Slash again.”

Alex had hoped that the Supersonic would restrict the movements of Shroomish, meaning that the chances of it dodging Air Slash would be minimal.

“Crobat use Supersonic and then follow it up with Air Slash again,” Alex commanded. He must have wanted to try to keep this Shroomish down, and wanted to prevent more damage happening to Crobat. Still though Supersonic was a risky move, cause there was a decent chance it would miss. Plus Shroomish had already seen Air Slash, so if it was in its right frame of mind, it could almost no doubt avoid said attack. I could only hope this plan would work to Alex's benefit.

Supersonic was a move that would end up causing Confusion on the opponent, should it hit. It was a screech like attack, where the user would let out a soundwave. This soundwave was three visible golden rings. Supersonic was a bit difficult to hit, due to the fact that all three rings needed to hit the opponent. Should even one miss the move wouldn't work. Though it was unlikely to hit, it wasn't impossible. I'd seen it happen before. Crobat took in a deep breath, and let the noise out. Shroomish looked like it was trying to avoid it, but between being pretty worn out, and having some of the Haze still around, Shroomish could do nothing but take on the move, and become confused as a result.

This wasn't the end of things though, Alex still had another move in mind. He had only wanted Supersonic to hopefully restrict Shroomish from being to avoid his next move, so that he could probably wrap things up quickly. He had wanted Crobat to once again use Air Slash, a move that was very commonly seen so far during this run. Shroomish seemed a bit out of it, giving Crobat a golden chance to strike. It once again slashed away at the air, causing a strike of energy that hit Shroomish against the back, causing it to drop down in pain. Eventually it got back up, and looked like it wanted to attack back, but it wasn't meant to be. Shroomish jumped in the air, either to use Headbutt, or Body Slam again, but what it was aiming at was actually a vision of Crobat caused by Shroomish's blurred vision from confusion. Due to this Shroomish never ended up hitting anything, and came crashing down into the ground, causing itself some pretty heavy damage in the process. Now it just took what was probably every bit of Shroomish's energy to just get back to its feet.

Alex better wrap this up quickly, before Shroomish finishes itself off, I thought to myself.

“Crobat use Supersonic and then follow it up with Air Slash again,” Alex commanded.

Supersonic was to make sure that Shroomish wouldn’t be able to attack Crobat. The advantages of Supersonic was that it made the opponent dizzy and confused, meaning there was a chance it could hit itself or ‘smack’. However the disadvantages are that it needs all three yellow rings to be successful, if one misses it isn’t the same effect. Crobat opened his mouth and fired out the three golden rings. Shroomish looked tired and the effect of the Haze looked like it exhausted the Mushroom Pokemon. The three rings collided into Shroomish, meaning it was a success.

Crobat wasn’t done just yet and started to slash both of his wings through the air, producing a wave of sliced wind hurling towards Shroomish. The waves sliced through Shroomish outer skin, causing some serious damage. Alex watched as Shroomish then leaped into the air, forcing his head towards Crobat. Alex feared that Shroomish was going in for another Headbutt attack or Take Down; however as soon as Shroomish was in the air it turned around and plummeted into the ground. Alex assumed that Shroomish was confused in the air, and simply couldn’t co-ordinate himself towards Crobat.

Shroomish now looked tired and Alex noticed this. Withdrawing a PokeBall from his belt, he threw the Super Ball towards Shroomish.

Alex had seen enough, he knew that if he pushed any harder at Shroomish it'd be finished off. He pulled out another Pokeball like with Cottonee, only in this case it was a Superball, meaning he really wanted to make sure Shroomish wouldn't break free. I couldn't say I could blame him here, because if given the chance it'd either probably knock itself out, or do something to Crobat like put it to sleep. Alex didn't want this so he threw the ball at Shroomish. It smacked against the Pokemon, and sucked it in. The poor little guy had nothing left to put up a fight. The ball just essentially laid there motionless for a few moments, until a click was heard symbolizing that Alex had succeeded.

"Well done Alex. That's your second capture already," I said as I walked over, and put Shroomish's ball in my pocket. "So, what's next? Do you plan to continue using your Cottonee disk, or will you try to look for a third Pokemon for yourself. If the latter of the two is the choice, then would you rather head over to the area of bushes, and trees where you'd more likely find Grass-types, or do you prefer to look over in the plains, where you'd be more likely to find Normal-types?" I asked. Alex had already captured two Grass-types, so if he wanted a third thing, maybe he wanted that to be a Normal-type. Or maybe not, maybe he was after a Grass-type gym or something.

Alex watched as the Super Ball flew through the air, before bouncing of the slashed skin of Shroomish. The capturing capsule broke open and a light red beam hit the Shroomish. Seconds later, the Mushroom Pokemon was quickly absorbed into the Super Ball. The ball bounced on the ground and started to roll around the grassy field. Then Alex gave a sigh of relief as the Ball clicked shut, meaning the capture was successful. Alex watched as Gary picked up the Super Ball and placed it in his bag and turned back to Alex and said, "So, what's next? Do you plan to continue using your Cottonee disk, or will you try to look for a third Pokemon for yourself. If the latter of the two is the choice, then would you rather head over to the area of bushes, and trees where you'd more likely find Grass-types, or do you prefer to look over in the plains, where you'd be more likely to find Normal-types?"

Alex couldn't decide, yes it would be a good idea to search for more Grass Pokemon however there weren't many left on his list. Alex turned to Gary and said, "Lets visit the Plains, however I will keep my Voice Disk, just in case we come across a Cottonee." Alex bent down and clicked play on his Voice Disk and waited for Gary to lead him away.

    Son of a
    voice disk works again lol

Alex seemed somewhat indecisive on what he wanted to do, or where he wanted to go. Can't say I particularly blamed him, I mean the Gardens were vast, and full of many rare and powerful Pokemon. My friend Eric was actually planning a trip to here, but before that he wanted me to inform him about how this run went, so he knew the odds of encountering some nice Pokemon. This was neither the time nor place to be thinking about that though since Alex seemed to have made a decision.

"Lets visit the Plains, however I will keep my Voice Disk, just in case we come across a Cottonee," Alex said. It was fair enough, cause who knows he could have very easily managed to come across something he wanted, or maybe his Voice Disk would work again, although that seemed very unlikely. Hey though you never know, crazier things have happened in the past. Once Alex pressed play again on his Voice Disk I signaled to lead him along the way again.

We started heading towards the left side of the Botanic Gardens, because that was the more regular side, where you'd probably encounter some Normal-types. Can't say I was too surprised that Alex wanted to come this way, since he had already captured two Grass-types, he probably wanted some variety. We started to make some good distance here. We were just walking along the grassy area, though nothing was really appearing, that is until Gardevoir gave me a tap on the shoulder to inform me of something.

Hey, I've been feeling something around for a while now. I think that something must be following us, and it's close by.

Huh, are you sure about that? I don't doubt your powers or anything, but I can usually tell when something it watching me.

Yes, I'm positive that something is about to make its presence know to us.

Gardevoir wasn't kidding, because there had been something there. It had stayed far enough back where we didn't really notice it for some time, or maybe it just needed the time to catch up to us, because we were walking somewhat fast. I couldn't believe my eyes though, because what I was seeing was amazing. Alex must have had some true luck for this thing to appear at this point.

"Wow, that's incredible Alex, it's a Cottonee. A Voice Disk working once is pretty impressive, but getting a Voice Disk to work twice, let alone the same disk twice, is something incredible. I'll let you get to this whenever you're ready."

Boy, Alex is really lucky, I thought to myself, and it was true. A lot of times people would visit the park, and never get a single Voice Disk attempt to work once, but he was only on his fourth Pokemon, and his disk already worked twice. Man, what luck.

Alex was lead down a small path by Gary, leading towards the plains. Alex wanted to expand his horizons and capture more than grass Pokemon. He had friends back in the country said that the Botanic Gardens are huge, and a lot of different Pokemon occupying the land. Personally, Alex was happy with the Pokemon he had captured. A Cottonee, which would hopefully one day evolve into a powerful and feared Whimsicott, notorious for their ability to hax and prove a nuisance in a battle. Then there was Shroomish, another Grass Pokemon who will hopefully one day evolve into a Breloom. Alex had always had a fascination with Breloom, their unique typing of Grass / Fighting, and their ability to produce a special powder which almost certainty of inducing sleep on the opponent. Alex’s face brighten up as he walked down the path knowing that so far, his trip to the Gardens had been an success.

As the continued to walk down the path, Alex looked out across the plains. He noticed several Pokemon in the distance, each grazing the local plantation. Alex was truly amazed; he had never seen such a sight before. Alex turned around to Gary and suddenly noticed something troubling. Gary’s facial expression showed that something was wrong. Before Alex could ask, Gary turned around and revealed a small Pokemon behind them. It seemed to be that the Pokemon had been following them since they left the battle zone in which Alex caught Shroomish. As Alex focused in on the Pokemon, his face suddenly lit up with joy. It was another Cottonee. Imagine the chances of that, encountering the same Pokemon twice in one run, surly that must’ve been a record. Then, what seemed like in the distance, a ruffled cry appeared from behind Alex. Alex turned around and noticed there was nothing behind him. However after seconds of wondering what it was, Alex realized that it was his Voice Disk in the back of his rucksack. Alex removed the Voice Disk and planted it onto the floor, clicking the button with a square engraved on it.

Then as Alex looked up at the Cottonee and back to the Voice Disk, he suddenly realized why the Cottonee had followed them. It was because of the Voice Disk. Alex was amazed at how well this disk had worked; it managed to attract 2 Cottonee’s in one hour or maybe two. Alex looked across and noticed a sheer surprise in Gary’s face. He too must be bewildered at the luck at the luck Alex had today. After shaking off his expression, Gary said to Alex, "Wow, that's incredible Alex, it's a Cottonee. A Voice Disk working once is pretty impressive, but getting a Voice Disk to work twice, let alone the same disk twice, is something incredible. I'll let you get to this whenever you're ready."

Alex nodded and started to think about his options very carefully. Cottonee is weak to Flying, Fire and Ice attacks. I currently have two flying Pokemon that have already been used. Crobat deserves a rest since he has just battled and Togekiss had already taken a lot of damage from the first battle. I have to be a lot more devious and always try to be one stage ahead of Cottonee if I want to capture this Cottonee quickly.

Alex reached into his belt and withdrew a small red and white ball. When the ball was in the tight grip of his hand, the ball expanded and now was the size of a small size 3 football. He threw the ball into the air and watched as a dark ghost like Pokemon appeared from the capsule. Dark purple, furred Pokémon with a roundish body erupted onto the scene. He bent down on one knee and jolted his head up towards Cottonee, releasing his signature grin towards the Grass Pokemon. Then Gengar stood up and waited for further commands.
Gengar was one of Alex’s closest Pokemon and had been there for Alex since the start of his Pokemon Adventure. Some people would classify Gengar as Alex’s starter Pokemon; however Alex saw Gengar more than a starter Pokemon, he saw him as a close companion and deep friend. Alex knew that Gengar had nothing over the Grass Pokemon as in moves, however believed that Gengar knew what to do to ensure the capture of this Cottonee. Alex looked across to Gengar and said, “Alright Gengar you ready?” Gengar turned around and raised a thumb up, showing that it was ready to go. Alex smiled and then shouted, “Gengar, use Night Ball, Go!”

Gengar knew what that command meant and was preparing the attack. Alex started to visualize the attack in his head, hoping it all went to plan.

Firstly Gengar would suddenly generate a lot of energy and focus it between his hands. Then, he would start form an orb, similar to a Shadow Ball. Then once the ball has been made, he would then start to use the excess energy and form a solid eclipse around the ball, similar to the attack Night Shade. From a distance, the move would look like a black hole, with the centre represented by the Shadow Ball and the excess waste or energy surrounding it in an eclipse shape, representing the Night Shade.

Alex had hoped that all the preparation for this move had paid off.

IC: Alex grabbed his final Pokeball, the one with the Pokemon he had yet to use. I figured that was what he'd do since the other two, although not too injured, had already been in battle, and somewhat hurt. It was alright though, because like the other two, this guy also had an edge over Grass-type Pokemon. It was dark purple in color, and seemed like it had a furred body. It looked like it was round in shape, and had hands attacked to its body, which is different than Haunter. In addition to that, it also has a set of legs, although its generally seen floating still, and a small tail. The fur on its back was spiked, and it had red eyes which perfectly matched its sinister smile. It was Gengar, a very powerful, and sought after Pokemon.

“Alright Gengar you ready?” Alex asked, to which Gengar raised up one of his thumbs, no doubt giving the go ahead. “Gengar, use Night Ball, Go!” I was perplexed, because I had no idea what Night Ball itself was. This was almost as confusing as "Teddy Bear" before, but at least with Night Ball I could take a few guesses. With a name like Night Ball it was possible that it was a hybrid, perhaps of Night Shade, and either Energy Ball or Shadow Ball. I'd like to believe it was the latter of the two seeing as how Cottonee was a Grass-type, and so Grass-type moves wouldn't do much to it.

Gengar got into position, and formed a rather large ball of pure darkness. Well I shouldn't really say pure darkness, because the ball itself was a dark shade of purple, but I say pure darkness because this was a Ghost-type attack. Within the ball there was some various spots of energy, I didn't know if that was the normal spots found in a Shadow Ball, or not, but either way I knew what that energy could normally do. While Shadow Ball was a ball of energy that would be flung at the opponent, it could actually drop their Special Defense due to the energy on the inside.

Gengar formed the attack in front of its mouth, blowing out the necessary energy. It then set its sights on Cottonee, and fired the ball at the creature. To the credit of Cottonee, it managed to essentially avoid the attack, only being hit by a small part of the ball, but that didn't mean it was out of hot water just yet. From what was the Shadow Ball emerged a dark wave of energy. Gengar grew in size a bit, and started to glow. It then turned the area surrounding Cottonee into darkness, as dark as the night sky itself, which sapped away some of its energy. Like I figured it had been using Night Shade.

Cottonee was a little winded, but it wasn't beat. It fired out some razor sharp leaves at Gengar, though only a few connected with Gengar. It was using Razor Leaf, a move that wasn't the strongest, but was more like to score a critical hit. Cottonee had been using its two leaves to slice up the grass a little for the attack, but like I said most of these didn't faze Gengar in the least bit, however what Cottonee did next did. Cottonee's, well I'd say fist, but it didn't really have one of those, turned black in color, and it got a quick punch in on Gengar's stomach. It had used Beat Up, a move that is generally a team move since all Pokemon from the users party gang up and get a hit in, but since Cottonee was alone, only it got a hit in. Still though it seemed to do a little something to Gengar. I'll say though this battle started off far more interesting than the previous Cottonee encounter.

Gengar started to form a small dark orb in front of its mouth, feeding energy through his hands. Alex was always surprised at where Pokemon produced this amount of energy and if the source was limitless. Inside the ball, there were small dark crystals imbedded adding some more power to the attack. Interestingly, they also served as another factor; if some of the crystals are imbedded into the opponent’s skin, there Special Defence decreases slightly.

Gengar looked ahead and fired the murky orb towards the Cottonee. Unlike the last one, this one looked a lot more agile. The Cottonee dodged to the right, avoiding most of the power produced by Gengar. Then the air exhaled by Gengar suddenly filled the battle field. Cottonee was surrounded in a sphere imitating the night sky. Alex watched closely and noticed that Cottonee was being sapped by the Night Shade.

After recovering from the attack, Cottonee started to spin around, her leaves pinned to the side of her face stood up into the air. Then, the leaves started to generate copies and fire them towards Gengar. The small leaves collided into Gengar, however didn’t cause much damage. Then, Cottonee sped towards Gengar, with its whole body tucked into a ball, and smashed into the chest of Gengar, winding the Ghost Pokemon. It was a move called Beat Up, a Dark move which increases in power the more Pokemon you have knocked out.

Alex looked ahead and realized this battle was going to be completely different to the previous one with Cottonee. Alex looked up to Gengar and called out, “Gengar, use Hex followed by Thunderbolt, however make sure Cottonee is in the air when you use it, or the move would become ineffective.”

IC: “Gengar, use Hex followed by Thunderbolt, however make sure Cottonee is in the air when you use it, or the move would become ineffective,” Alex commanded. He made a good point to Gengar. If it uses Thunderbolt while Cottonee is on the ground then the attack would do nothing to it. It was a good thing he informed Gengar of that, because it may not have know otherwise.

First up was Hex, and Gengar got ready to use it. The user of it would conjure up some ghostly energy, as if with a spell, or a curse or something, and unleash it on the foe. This would shake them up a bit, attacking from the inside. Eventually they would let out some dark colored energy from their body. This was the Ghost energy fused with the own energy that was sapped away. Hex attacked based on your immune system. By that I mean if you were paralyzed, burned, poisoned, or asleep you couldn't fight the attack off easily, and it would end up being twice as strong. Gengar formed up the energy from within, and released it at Cottonee. The little fluffball didn't know what was coming its way, and so it didn't avoid it in the least bit. The energy went into its body, and you could see the look on Cottonee's face change. It was being hit on the inside, but it could do nothing besides try to endure the pain. Eventually the effects of the move wore off, and Cottonee was back in action.

Cottonee jumped up in the air, and turned its attention towards the sun. It then gave a glare, and in an instant the sun began to shine even brighter. Cottonee was using Sunny Day, a move that for a little while intensified the sun. I couldn't figure out why though. The sun didn't really help Cottonee in anyway that I could think of, and now to make matters worse for itself, it was completely vulnerable to Gengar's attack. That move was Thunderbolt. This was a strong electrical blast of pure electrical energy. The user would form a sort of ball in front of them, and inside this ball was all the stored energy. It would eventually be let loose, sending the move at the foe. As you could probably imagine the equivalent of this attack would probably be like being electrocuted. As such it had a chance to paralyze the opposing Pokemon. While Cottonee was still in the air, Gengar quickly formed the attack, and fired it off at Cottonee, though the creature was able to slightly avoid it. It didn't avoid the whole blast though as part of it struck its right leaf.

Now that Cottonee was coming closer to the ground I could see why it used Sunny Day. In front of its mouth it had been forming energy for a powerful blast. Generally this kind of trick would take a while, but thanks to Sunny Day it only took mere moments. It was using Solarbeam, one of the most powerful Grass-type moves out there. The user would gather in energy from the sun, and mix it with their own creating a powerful beam. Of course since this attack relied heavily on solar energy, if it was used in the Rain, Hail, or a Sandstorm it would only be half as effective. Cottonee quickly fired the attack at Gengar, but it was still a decent amount away from Gengar. This should have given Gengar an ample amount of time to get out, but the beam was too large, and part of it collided with Gengar. Whether it resisted Grass-type moves or not, an attack like this one would easily still make it feel some pain. Now both Pokemon were somewhat battle-worn. The next one to get off a powerful move would definitely get the edge.

“Gengar, use Hex followed by Thunderbolt, however make sure Cottonee is in the air when you use it, or the move would become ineffective,” Alex commanded. Alex had remembered that if you use an electric attack on a grass Pokemon while they are on the ground, the electricity simply passes through them and into the ground, reducing the damage.

Gengar was first off the mark and started to gather more energy. However this time compared to the other attacks, Gengar didn’t form the energy into a shape but simply kept the energy together flowing between his hands. Hex was a move that took the bad tocsins from the user and used it to enhance the power of the move. Usually the bad tocsins were statuses, for example Paralysed, Burn and Poison. Gengar fired the attack towards Cottonee, who was completely unaware of the attack. Cottonee was smacked by a huge force of energy and sent flying back. Cottonee gradually managed to get back and glared towards the Gengar.

As Cottonee was staring at Gengar, it started to shin like a sun. Rays of the actual sun reflected off the body of Cottonee. Then the sun rays started to get harsher and the intensity of the sun increased. Alex had recognized the attack before; it looked like the move Sunny Day. Sunny Day was a move which intensified the sun’s rays, meaning moves like Morning Sun and Solarbeam were healed more health and reduced the power up for the attack. Gengar stopped watching Cottonee and quickly produced a yellow orb in his hands. Then the Ghost Pokemon fired a bolt of electricity from the orb, collided into Cottonee. Cottonee was struck in the air and was sent failing towards the ground.

The Grass Pokemon quickly got back up from the attack and faced the Ghost Pokemon. Cottonee suddenly started to glow again, imitating the blazing sun’s rays. Then within seconds, a huge white beam erupted from Cottonee and smashed into Gengar, sending the Gas Pokemon into the ground. Alex had suddenly noticed Cottonee’s plan over all. It had wanted to set up sun so that it could use Solarbeam. Solarbeam in sun meant it only took one turn to produce the energy and fire it off. Alex was in a tricky situation, Cottonee could strike again with that move and it could finish Gengar. Alex glanced across to Gengar and shouted, “Gengar, use Hypnosis followed by Dream Eater.”

Alex had hoped that while Cottonee was asleep, Gengar would be able to ‘eat’ her dreams. It benefited Gengar as it sapped energy from the Pokemon and recycled it as its own. Once Gengar had used the move, Alex was ready to throw a Park Ball, hoping that Cottonee would be captured. If Hypnosis missed, or that Dream Eater missed, Alex would save the ball until it was the right time.

Alex was really wasting no time at all here. He was going fast at this Cottonee, and seemed like he was in a hurry to wrap things up with it. He had been using powerful combos against it, the kind that could knock out a Pokemon if you weren't careful. Thankfully though a move like Thunderbolt wouldn't even do a lot to a Cottonee in the first place. Not to mention that Night Shade did a set amount of damage. Still though I could tell he wanted to end this now.

“Gengar, use Hypnosis followed by Dream Eater,” he commanded. This was a combo that really made sense. Put the Pokemon to sleep, then damage it with a move that could only be used while they're asleep. Not to mention that this was also a good way of dealing heavy damage, because while I Pokemon is asleep it's pretty much a sitting duck to any attack you throw its way since it'd be hard to dodge anything while you're sleeping.

Hypnosis was a sleep inducing move. It kind of reminded me of Supersonic, since both were similar in appearance. The user would let out a wave of several golden rings, these would turn pink in color if they managed to hit the opponent. As you can imagine this move was hard to hit, due to being one that causes sleep. However it wasn't like with Supersonic where if one ring missed the move failed. In this case it was the amount of rings that hit that would determine how long the opposing Pokemon slept. So if three out of nine rings hit it, it would sleep for a turn. Gengar quickly charged up its move, and fired it off at Cottonee. It attempted to dodge it, but it was still a bit shaken up from Hex. The attack, or at least some of it, hit, putting Cottonee to sleep.

No time for it to rest though, since Gengar raced over to Cottonee's head, and bit right down on it. Gengar was using Dream Eater. This move could only be used when the opposing Pokemon was asleep, this was because the attack would actually feed off of dreams. It was a powerful Psychic-type move, and when it was used the Pokemon's dreams would be sucked out, healing the Pokemon using the attack by half of the damage it caused. Gengar started to glow, healing itself, and eventually let loose its grip on the worn Cottonee. Alex knew this was his chance. He pulled out his final Park Ball, and threw it at the creature. To its credit though Cottonee still attempted to break free from the ball, but it was to no avail. Much like the one before it, Cottonee was captured.

"Very good, Alex. Catching three of your first four encounters like that, even if two of them appeared by luck, that still doesn't take away from the credibility. So, now that you've managed to capture three Pokemon, what do you want to do next? As you know you can only leave the Park with three Pokemon, so do you want to keep going, or would you like to leave?" I asked.

Alex watched as Gengar started to prepare his attack, swirling his hands around in a counter clockwise formation. However suddenly a sharp pain bolted through Alex's head. He held his hands across his head and knelt down. It felt like a baseball bat had been swung and crashed on his head. Alex paid no attention to the battle and focused on this very painful headache. After minutes of resisting the pain, it gradually subsided however was still lingering around in his head.

"Very good, Alex. Catching three of your first four encounters like that, even if two of them appeared by luck, that still doesn't take away from the credibility. Alex couldn't understand the question however tried to piece the jumbled words together. He opened his mouth and muttered the words, "I think I will leave, this headache needs to be checked out."

"I think I will leave, this headache needs to be checked out," Alex said in response to what I had asked. That seemed fair enough to me, he had already captured three Pokemon anyway, and if he had a headache he probably didn't want to be out in the sun any longer. I know that the sun has given me really bad headaches before. Per his request I started to lead him back to the Ranger Outpost where he could claim his newly caught Pokemon. A Shroomish, and two Cottonee.

Well, this was another quickly finished run, wasn't it? Gardevoir said.

Yeah, but at least it ran smoothly. It may have ended quickly, but Alex still got three Pokemon out of it, so he can't really complain I'm sure.

That's true. Just would have been nice to spend a little more time here was all.

Ahh, it's alright. I'm sure we'll get more work, especially here again at some point.

We returned to the Ranger Outpost where I healed the Pokemon Alex captured, so he could get right to using them when he returned home. "Good job with your run Alex, you managed to capture three Pokemon that I'm sure you're pleased with, and made some pretty good time too. Sorry to hear about your headache, but I'm sure that will pass before you know it. Here are your Shroomish, Cottonee, and other Cottonee. Have fun with these guys, and hopefully you return to the National Park again at some point," I said as I waved goodbye to Alex, and wished him a fond farewell.
