    Ranger Ataro

    ---

"Seriously, what is wrong with the weather?" I mumbled to myself annoyingly. A few days ago, it was raining non-stop and spoiled all of my plans. And now, it's like there's a heat wave and I am in the middle of the Sahara Desert. I was walking towards my office, and I was pretty sure my back view would have been very odd, since I was half walking and half running. I just couldn't wait for the air-conditioned office that was waiting for me. Reaching for the door knob, I entered the lobby area which connected to the numerous offices that each Ranger had. I haven't been here for quite long. In fact, I only signed up for this job recently and have never Ranger for anyone before. Part of it was due to the company having so many Rangers, and the other part was due to my busy schedule with other things.

I opened the door to my office, and grinned almost immediately. The cold air was definitely soothing, as compared to the glaring heat outside there. The office wasn't anything luxurious actually, just that there is an air-conditioner, which would suffice for me. I took a seat in my armchair and began checking my email.

Hmm... junk mail, junk mail, junk mail. Oh, an urgent mail.

The email was from my colleague, Gmandiddy, whom had asked me to take over a trainer run for him. I opened the attached files and saw his particulars.

Trainer is Daniel Harding, he wants to go to the Botanic Gardens, and this is his first time...

Immediately, I struck a chord with this trainer. Not only do we share the same first name, (but I normally go by the alias 'Ataro'), but this is both our first time. I began thinking how funny it would be if both of us screwed up somehow, for both beginners. I printed the particulars document and prepared some items to bring along. I took my messenger bag hanging by the cabinet and stuffed some Pokedolls in it with the other Park items. Those were just in case anyway, since some trainers might buy it to escape from wild Pokemon in the middle of the run.

I took the document to the receptionist in exchange for a pass which would allow me access to the teleportation devices in the inner section of the lobby. I exchanged for the pass and walked over to the portal. I then stepped into the machine, that was also giving off a purple-neon glow. I stepped into it, and within seconds, I felt as if I was minimized into tiny bits of "spores" and sent to the receiving end of the teleportation device. Shutting my eyes throughout, I kept wondering if I would be lost in a limbo world if something went wrong. Suddenly, I heard a "beep" sound and opened my eyes slowly, but steadily.

There. The Ranger Outpost #5 for the Botanic Gardens. It was mostly a small cabin, with the teleportation device taking up the most amount of space. I opened the door and looked around, but there was no one in sight.

He hasn't reached I guess, I'll just go back in and wait.

I went back in and sat on the couch. Unconsciously, I started lamenting again. It is going to be sweltering out there, for sure. Obviously I would not die from mere heat, but I guess when there's nothing much to do and you're waiting for someone, the thing that you'd most probably do is complain to yourself ... or play iPhone games. I suddenly recalled and took out a Pokeball. Releasing the Pokemon within, the red light emitted from the capture device, materializing into the silhouette of a mantis-like creature with pincers. "Scizor!" He called out, as he took a sit on the couch after noticing that we were in the outpost. I looked at him amusingly, as he started to slouch on the couch lazily, and his eyes were kind of dopey as well.

"Haha. Be patient, Scizor," I said with a laugh, well aware that he gets bored and impatient easily.

Suddenly, the continuous beeping sound started to ring and the teleporation device was flashing red. I stood up, as my Scizor followed my actions, and looked at the portal, anticipating my trainer's arrival.

I strolled down the path towards the range base, waving my hand back and forth in front of my face in an attempt to waft away the sweltering heat from my face.“You must be loving this” I said turning to face Holden, my Arcanine, the large canine looked back at me and gave me a huge grin, and a cheerful growl, relishing in the harsh sunlight, at least someone’s enjoying this heat wave, well at least it’s better than last week where it was torrential rains.

I arrived at the end of the pathway halted by the overbearing ranger building the sort of building that makes you wonder ‘what would they need with a building that size’. But I could not hang on that thought for I was here for a reason today; I was going to go on my first expedition through national park. A prospect that even excited Holden, as he let out a second cheerful howl as I walked him into the large building.

The lobby inside was quite impressive; to my immediate right was the reception that was styled in a way to suit the current trends. Just ahead of me was a corridor that was so long the outside of the building doesn’t do it any justice, branching from this corridor was a multitude of offices that I assumed to belong to the various rangers that this company employs. I turned to the receptionist and enquired about my upcoming park visit.
“Your ranger for today will be Ataro, Gmandiddy was unavailable” the receptionist said in a stern and professional manner not even making eye contact. “Ataro” I thought to myself memorising the name, I wasn’t bothered about who my ranger was because to me it was all relative, this was my first time. “Walk down the corridor and take the third door on the second left there you will find the teleporter that will take you to the botanical gardens where your ranger will be waiting for you”

“Thanks” I said “I’ll go straight away”. The receptionist did nothing but nod in response to this, not even a ‘good luck’ or a ‘have a nice day’, but I was indifferent, even if she did say something I probably wouldn’t of taken notice, I was too busy focusing on the trip ahead. I waved Holden forward indicating we were going now and he followed promptly. Counting down the left hand doors, I walked down the corridor anticipating what pokemon I will find today, I didn’t have any preferences as to what I wanted I was just going to take things as they come.

I arrived at the door and entered without delay eager to get started, I stood there in front of the teleporter and suddenly my attitude towards the days events had changed from excitement to anxiety I began to have second thoughts and I will continued to have done so were it not for Holdens persistent nudging telling me to go through. Glad that my friend showed this persistency I reached for his pokeball a press of a button and a red light had sucked him in. I stepped into the Teleporter and pressed the red button situated to my left. I can not describe the feeling of being de-materialised.

It took only seconds for me to appear at the other end and was greeted by who I assumed to be Ataro and a rather impatient looking scizor.

“Hey, I’m guessing you’re Ataro then” I asked.

    Ranger Ataro

The trainer that I was in charged of materialized in front of me. He stepped down from the portal and greeted me while asking, "Hey, I’m guessing you’re Ataro then?" He was quite tall, and had medium-length brown hair.

"Yeah, hello there. I will be your Ranger for this Park run. Let's proceed to the Botanic Gardens. We will start from the east gate since it's the closest gate to us," I said, as I opened the door and walked out of the cabin with Daniel following behind me. The weather was scorching hot as like before, while I raised my hand to wipe away the perspiration from my face. While still walking, I looked over at Scizor, he wasn't perspiring or anything but I knew he must still be feeling terribly hot. After all, he was a Bug- and Steel-typed Pokemon, imagine you're afraid of heat and yet you're still made of metal. I was sure that if I were to touch Scizor's steel encased body, I'd probably get scalded.

Argh ... I probably should have Starmie so that it can help cool the weather with its Water-typed moves, although that might be a little too extreme... I started to get lost in thought again. Then again, I just noticed that Daniel didn't release his Pokemon out to walk with us. Perhaps he doesn't have the habit of doing that, I usually don't do it if I, myself, was on a Park run as well. On the other hand, it could also be there just wasn't an appropriate time, considering I immediately led him out here when he arrived. I had only hoped I wasn't being too fast with this whole thing.

Regardless, I knew what Pokemon he possessed anyway, since I had his particulars from my colleague. Judging from his statistics, I gathered that he must have been a new trainer, but his two Pokemon aren't that boring either. They were rather interesting choices; Arcanine and Sealeo. I had always liked Arcanine, they were rather cool and they were pretty good in battling as well. Not only does it get many good and appealing moves, it had a certain amount of bulkiness in it as well. Especially with the scorching weather, Arcanine would even perform better since there was basically a 'Sunny Day' effect already.

I was snapped back to reality when Scizor called out for me, as if he knew I had already been lost in thought. We had reached the entrance of the Botanic Gardens. It was mostly an empty area, with benches made out of logs here and there for visitors to sit and rest. Then, it connects into the deeper sections of the Gardens, with the grass growing as high as to our knee length.

"There's nothing here, this is just the entrance area. Let's go in deeper into the tall grass," I said, about to take another step but stopped quickly. The tall grass has started to rustle, producing the sounds of grass brushing against each other. A yellow seed-like Pokemon jumped out abruptly. Baring a sunflower seeding resemblance, the Pokemon also had a small sprout growing on its top. "It's a Sunkern. Do you want to try and capture it?"

“Yeah, hello there. I will be your ranger for this park run. Let’s proceed to the east gate since its the closest” he said to me as he lead me out if the cabin and into the bright outdoors.

The heat here was more unbearable than the temperature back at the main ranger building, and I could tell it was having an effect on Ataro, as I seen him wipe the sweat from his forehead, who knows how long he must’ve been waiting on me in that stuffy cabin. Thinking back to the walk up to the ranger building I remembered how happy Holden had been in the heat, bringing my hand down to his pokeball clipped to my belt I contemplated my friends release, but soon realised that I was going into an area widely inhabited by grass type pokemon. If I was a grass type pokemon I certainly would avoid a big intimidating fire type pokemon, especially one that is an Arcanine strolling by, so for the purpose of pokemon encounters I finally decided to keep my pokemon tucked away in its pokeball. Ready to bring out in a time of need. When things looked bad I know Holden would be a valuable asset especially with his type advantage and ability to use the weather to his fullest advantage.

Thinking about my battle strategies for today I was interrupted by a call from a pokemon, thinking I was starting my first pokemon encounter, I readied myself to release my other pokemon into battle, I soon realised it was Scizor calling to his master who, when I looked over at him was also startled, it appeared he was also in a daydream of his own. Shortly it became apparent why scizor had halted the two of us. We were here.

The entrance area was surprisingly empty, nothing but a few desolate, improvised benches made from logs, in the distance I could see long grass, that’s where I’d put my money on in terms of finding pokemon.

“There’s nothing here, this is just the entrance area. Let’s go in deeper onto the tall grass” Ataro said, proceeding towards the grass only to be suddenly halted by a nearby disturbance in the grass. “It’s a Sunkern do you want to try and capture it?” I stood there examining the small sunflower seed, this pokemon had an unfavourable tag of being one of, if not the weakest pokemon known so far.

“No thanks” I replied, “I’ll wait and see what else I find in the park”.

"No thanks," Daniel replied. "I’ll wait and see what else I find in the park."

Before we even got to move, the Sunkern jumped up and spun the sprout on its head. As if magically, razor sharp leaves were cloned out from the sprout and went flying towards Daniel. I know I cannot interfere in my trainer's battle, but if my trainer is in danger, it's a different story. The attack was too fast for Daniel to call out any Pokemon, but Scizor was already prepared, ready to strike anytime once a command was given.

"Scizor! Knock out those leaves with Fury Cutter!"

Immediately, Scizor jumped in front of us and crossed his pincers, then opening them up. Scizor's pincers had turned into a red glow now, as he repeatedly slashes at the Razor Leaf attack. All of it happened in a flash, which wasn't a surprise considering Scizor was pretty agile and Fury Cutter was a fast attack anyway. Scizor's pincers shredded all of the leaves into harmless shreds of leaves that fell onto the ground. Once he had stopped the Razor Leaf attack, Scizor automatically stepped back beside me again, well aware that we shouldn't help the trainer too much.

The Sunkern on the other hand, had started to frown. Initially, it was smiling like some dopey creature, and its smile was in zig-zag pattern that was so awkward. However, it was obviously not so happy now, probably annoyed at people running away from it. Luckily though, it didn't continue to attack and was staring at us without moving any muscle at all. I gathered that it must be observing our actions and our next move. Unfortunately, I had a hunch that if Daniel tried to run away again, without a Pokedoll, and still failed, the Sunkern would get enraged and do something crazy. I had only hoped my trainer had noticed the wild Pokemon's look of annoyance and have a Pokemon by his side if he still decides to try and run away without the help of a Pokedoll. That way, if we do fail to run away again, his Pokemon might be able to fend off the Sunkern's attack and get into a battle immediately.

"Well, looks like it won't leave us alone. We have a couple of options here. You can either try to scare it off in a battle, faint it in a battle, or use a Pokedoll to distract it and run away. The latter which of course, you'd have to purchase it from me for $500 if you don't have it in your inventory, which will be charged later when you've finished your run. The choice is yours. What will you do?"

As soon as I gave my reply the pokemon, that I assumed to be docile and weak, had suddenly turned hostile and had launched a barrage of Leaves towards me, I turned to reach for my belt but I instinctively knew that I wouldn’t be fast enough to release a pokemon in time. Knowing this I winced, ready to take the hit, annoyed at how bad my first encounter would be if I had been hit by one of the weakest pokemon. Seconds had passed, yet no contact I brought my head up to see what the hold up was. Only to see a large steel bug standing in front of me and a pile of shredded leaves at it’s foot, once the danger was clear it withdrew itself back to Ataros side. i looked back and gave a look of appreciation but I knew I shouldn’t expect more help from them as it’s against the rules for them to interfere with a treiners encounters unless it’s extreme circumstances.

What will you do?" Ataro called out to me, reminding me of our current situation.

I returned my gaze to the frustrated Sunkern, for a little guy he was fierce, he was wanting a fight and if it came to the crunch I would gladly give it to him but I also felt sorry for the guy because if I did give him a battle I would most likely faint it, and that is something I would prefer not to do. I reached into my back pocket ready to pull out money and buy myself a Pokedoll, and spare this Sunkern the defeat, but then it came to me instead of springing for a pokedoll I would just try and scare it away. I retreated my hand from my back pocket and moved it up to a nearby pokeball. Unclipping it from my belt I threw the ball so it would land in front of the small seed. A red light shone from the ball and soon Holden appeared. Holden looked at the Sunkern and he instantly knew that the pokemon was out of his league.

“ Holden, use roar” I called out to him, and soon he let out a tremendous bark that caused nearby bird pokemon to flee their nests and scatter into the sky.

Along with the roar, very noticeable size difference, the type advantage and Holdens intimidating appearance, I had hoped that the Sunkern was smart enough to realise this was not a fight to pick.

I looked at Daniel, waiting for his reply. He seemed to be contemplating the options given to him. After a while, he reached for his back pocket - probably reaching for his wallet to purchase a Pokedoll, but suddenly stopped. He moved his hand to his belt instead, reaching for a Pokeball and threw it onto the ground. In midair, the capture device opened up and emitted a bright flash of red silhouette, transforming into a canine-like creature. Like what I imagined, Arcanine was a cool-looking Pokemon; the sheer look of its posture was already quite intimidating. With a stance of confidence, I could tell that the Arcanine doesn't even regard the Sunkern as a worthy opponent.

    “Holden, use Roar!"

I knew it. Ever since we started the run, I already knew my trainer was rather good at this. He made good use of the moves his Arcanine had; using Roar to scare away the opponent without needing to faint the wild Pokemon. Still, that doesn't mean that it would work for sure. There are just some times, when a wild Pokemon is just so persistent, and they just would not allow you to run away from them. I watched on as the Arcanine lowered his head in an even more scary posture and glared at the Sunkern.

The canine-like Pokemon then opened its mouth and let out a fierce roar that had sent the Sunkern flying back. I quickly pressed my hands onto my ears to try and block out some of that tremendous roar. The Sunkern struggled to get back up ... I assumed it just wasn't easily scared. However, the moment it got back up, it started to shriek and ran back into the tall grass with all of its might. Except it didn't have feet. And so I watched, as the Sunkern hopped away frantically, that view was just so awkward and hilarious.

"Nice call," I commented, while laughing at the way the Sunkern had reacted. I had also noticed that my Scizor was standing behind me, different from his original position. I gathered that it must have been wary of Daniel's Arcanine since Scizor was especially afraid of Fire-type attacks. The Arcanine on the other hand, was pretty comfortable being out of its Pokeball. In fact, it no longer had that fierce look on its face, it was more of a neutral expression. No surprises, it must be enjoying basking in the sun.

I led the way into the tall grass but stopped just before we walked in. I wanted to let my trainer decide the route that he wanted to take, instead of leading him around without leaving him a choice. I had only hoped his Arcanine doesn't get too tickled by the tall grass and sneezed a ball of fire. That would be very disastrous and his trainer might get into trouble for damaging our property as well, although it wouldn't matter much if it was just a tiny area.

"Let's proceed. You can take the lead, I'll follow behind you. You can pick from two paths though, we will eventually explore both paths, but certain paths will allow you to see specific Pokemon first. We can either take the route towards the left, which leads to the Flower Gardens, or the middle one that leads to several small ponds and a clutter of Honey Trees. The Flower Gardens is more concentrated on the different species of flowers, and you can find flower-like species of Pokemon there as well. The middle route is more concentrated on Pokemon that lives near the waters, or ones that are attracted by the smell of honey on the trees left by the other trainers."

I explained with detail to Daniel the options and information about the paths that were available. Both of the paths had a very narrow path free of any tall grass, so that it wouldn't be too difficult for people to explore the park. Though, it was really narrow, so you will still brush against the grass sometimes. I waited for Daniel's response, ready to follow him with my Scizor when he made his decision. I had only hoped I didn't bore him out with the detailed information about the routes.

The sheer volume and amplitude of the sound was enough to knock the small seed, I should’ve really covered my ears to protect from the noise as I knew from previous experience how loud the roar could be, from the corner of my eye I could see that Ataro had the right Idea. I turned my attention back to the Sunkern as it fought gravity in order to right itself, for a moment I thought this pokemon wasn’t going to back down which would’ve been really impressive for a pokemon of that stature. But this thought soon left as quickly as it came because as soon as the Sunkern got up he let out a scream and hobbled back to safety in a comical manner, the poor thing didn’t have any dignity in retreat.

“Nice call” Ataro called out from behind, I also heard a few sniggers which I assumed to be aimed at the Sunkerns rather awkward reaction. I turned to acknowledge him realising in the progress that his Scizor had taken a rather protective stance behind Ataro, probably due to the presence of a rather prominent fire type. Arcanine had came up to my side also awaiting the next orders, I realised now that he was wanting to continue the trip on foot, so I pushed the thought of returning him to his pokeball to the back of my mind. We continued onwards only to be stopped by Ataro.

The middle route is more concentrated on Pokemon that lives near the waters, or ones that are attracted by the smell of honey on the trees left by the other trainers." Ataro said alerting me to the kinds of pokemon ahead.

I thought about the choices given to me, The route to the left contained flowers so that would be pokemon like oddish and budew or pokemon that live by the pond side, the pond side option intrigued me as I was unaware of the kinds of pokemon that dwell there, also if a strong pokemon were to appear, my Sealeo could use the nearby ponds to his advantage if things looked down. Prepared to go to the ponds I realised the length of grass that lined the pathway

“Keep your chin up Holden and stay on the path, don’t want you sneezing do we?” I ordered him as a necessary precaution.

“I would like to go in the direction of the ponds if that’s alright” I asked Ataro.

"Keep your chin up Holden and stay on the path, don’t want you sneezing do we?" Daniel reminded his Arcanine, aware of the danger with Fire-type Pokemon around terrains like the tall grass. "I would like to go in the direction of the ponds if that’s alright."

"Sure. Like I said, you can lead the way," I reminded him. Perhaps he just wanted to make sure if it's alright with me, before he made a move.

He started to take the lead by taking the middle path. Looking forward, I couldn't really see anything except for the huge oak trees that towered the area ahead of us. Unfortunately, I felt pretty bored though. The entire process of walking around tall grass that reached to your knees when you knew you still had quite a good amount of road to walk before you reach your destination was most uncomfortable and frustrating.

If there were any asleep Pokemon nearby, I think they'd be awakened by me for sure; I kept fidgeting non-stop. I just couldn't help it. The path was so narrow that the tall grass kept brushing against my legs, which made me kept reaching down to scratch it instead. I noticed that Scizor didn't had that problem though, because his entire body was encased in a steel-like coating. Heck, he probably didn't even know the tall grass were quite annoying if he didn't see me fidgeting non-stop.

"I think we are reaching soon enough," I said, breaking the awkward silence other than the sound of me fidgeting. "When we are near that area, we will know because the smell of the Honey Trees will be most unmistakable."

Suddenly, I noticed the rustle in the tall grass on our right and signaled for Daniel to stop. I knew it was against the rules to help the trainer unless my trainer was in danger, so I had to hold back on asking Scizor to use Cut to clear the grass. It wasn't all that bad, I guess. I had seen way taller grass that stretch all the way up to your chest, those were the most annoying thing ever. Just when I was wondering how are we going to go about finding the Pokemon that was snooping around the tall grass, a head popped out of the lush green bushes. The head had a spiky brown skin, a really long beak, and a 'V'-shaped black crest on it. Soon after, the other two identical heads popped out as well. Then, the Pokemon stood upfront, letting out a shriek to announce its presence.

"Looks like it's a Dodrio. Do you want it?" I asked, although I already have a feeling as to whether he wants it or not. Dodrio are after all rather weak Pokemon and they're quite common actually, or at least their pre-evolution is. There is nothing quite attractive about a Dodrio anyway, but that could have been just my opinion. I waited to see if Daniel had an interest in the Dodrio or not.

“sure, like I said, you can lead the way” Ataro said, and allowed me to take the lead

I continued up the middle path with Holden, Ataro and Scizor in tow, single file. The surrounding grass arched over the narrow trail causing the blades of grass to rub against my legs but this was not a problem for me as I had jeans on which effectively shielded my legs. I looked over my shoulder to check on Holden being totally aware of the destruction he could cause if he was not careful when walking through the grass, but following my orders he was keeping his chin up and avoiding any irritation. Ataro on the other hand, as I looked over to Holden I spied Ataro looking rather less comfortable than I was feeling and behind him a Scizor looking rather indifferent to the whole situation.
“I think we are reaching soon enough.” Ataro said ignoring his irritation for a moment. “When we are near that area, we will know because the smell of the honey trees will be most unmistakeable.”

I turned around and nodded in Acknowledgement to him, but before I could turn and face the front again he raised his hand to signal for me to stop, a little confused I looked to where he was facing and noticed what had alarmed him, there was something in the bushes in amongst the tall grass. First one head popped up and then two more.

“Looks like it’s a Dodrio. Do you want it?” Ataro asked. Ugh, I never really liked the idea of a pokemon with more than one consciousness, but the fact I found it in it’s highest form sort of enticed me to the idea, I mean if it was a Doduo I would have instantly pass it up but still I don’t think it was a strong enough argument to attempt this rather difficult pokemon. After some thought I decided against the idea and presented five hundred credits to Ataro.

“I’d like to buy a Pokedoll please” i asked Ataro while still keeping an eye on the Dodrio in case it goes angry like the Sunkern.

Just as I thought, he wasn't interested in a Dodrio. He turned around for a brief second to ask and purchase a Pokedoll from me, while still keeping an eye on the Dodrio in case it decides to suddenly attack. The Dodrio on the other hand, remained quite still however. It seemed to be inspecting us, twitching its heads now and then, as if it was thinking really hard.

I reached for the miniature dolls in my messenger bag, and passed one of them to Daniel while receiving the money in exchange. With a throw, the Pokedoll landed in front of the Dodrio, completely buried amongst the tall grass from us, but still visible to the Dodrio. The wild Pokemon lowered its head yet again and kept twitching those heads of it, while inspecting the Pokedoll.

"Let's go, seemed like that worked," I said, and continued walking forward. The path was enlarged now, enough for two people to walk side by side. Daniel and me took the lead, with our Pokemon following closely behind us. The tall grass actually got thinner and thinner as well, it was not as crowded as before. Eventually, we had reached an opening. It was just a small circular area without anything, and still surrounded by tall grass all around. Looking at the ground that was slightly the color of burnt brown, I assumed that it was probably an area originally with tall grass, but the previous trainer had burnt it while battling.

Not paying too much attention to the area, I continued walking. I could almost smell the slight aroma of honey in the air. It wasn't that heavy since we weren't that close yet, but the distinct smell of the sweet nectar wasn't hard to miss. Though, to get to there, we would have to get back into the tall grass and continued walking forward.

Just when we were about to step back into the tall grass, we were alerted by a 'purring' sound behind us. I turned back to see a little pink feline Pokemon licking its tails, while letting out attractive purrs. I had always found Skitty to be especially cute. The way the ears are poised; the pink and cream-colored fur on its body, the way it looks at you; the way it smiles at you; the way it licks and chases its tails; it was just adorable. The soft fur that it had only made me feel more like hugging it, as if it was a plushie or something like that.

"Interested in a Skitty?" I asked.

OOC: Skitty will be female please, also pokedoll = 3600-500 = 3100

Ataro Handed me a Pokedoll which I promptly threw towards the three headed bird, the doll became enshrouded within the grass, invisible from our view but I assumed the Dodrio managed to keep track of it because it lowered it’s head to examine it.

“lets go, seemed like that worked” Ataro said walking ahead. The trail enlarged as we went further along wide enough for me to stride alongside Ataro, while allowing our pokemon to follow closely behind us. The trail had ended and opened up to a small empty clearing which appeared to be a previous battle ground between two pokemon in where fire was involved which was made apparent by a scorched patch of grass. I looked back at Holden and tilted my head in the direction of the burned patch intending it as a way of telling him that’s what he has to avoid but instead of showing acknowledgement, he simply raised his nose to the air and gave a sniff. After seeing Holden sniff I instinctively also sniffed and could smell a tinge of honey in the air but only slightly but I guess his senses are amplified due to him being a dog.

I saw Ataro walk off into the grass and I was about to follow him until he stopped and did a full one-eighty turn, after seeing him turn I also turned to see the problem only to be greeted by the sight of a small pink cat purring away cleaning itself.

“Interested in a Skitty” Ataro asked. The idea of having a Skitty was one I quite enjoyed, I always admired the felines diverse move pool and since I’ve not really gotten into a proper battle I was going to take my chances.

“Yes I am interested in this Skitty” I replied to Ataro. “Holden, up front” and almost as if he knew my intentions was prepared already.

“OK Holden, soften this kitty up with a bite”

"Yes I am interested in this Skitty," he replied. "Holden, up front." As if his Pokemon can read his thoughts, the Arcanine stepped forward even before his trainer finished his sentence. "OK Holden, soften this kitty up with a Bite!"

Immediately, the canine-like Pokemon pounced forward, and was overhead of the Skitty. The Skitty had suddenly stopped licking her tail, as if she finally knew what was happening. Letting out another gentle purr again, the Skitty didn't seem too violent or fierce. Though, she was still aware of the incoming attack, as I noticed the initial adorable smile was gone, but replaced by a frantic look on her face.

She finally snapped out of it; probably too frightened to move just now. The Skitty made a quick turn and tried to dodge the attack by running away, but Arcanine was much faster. As the Arcanine landed onto the ground, his shiny whites gleamed and targeted for the Skitty. It would have been pretty scary to have such a tiny Pokemon being bitten by a large Pokemon like Arcanine, but a part of me was glad that the Skitty still managed to react which allowed it to not take the full brunt of the attack. Arcanine's position only allowed it for reach of Skitty's tail, but Daniel's Arcanine didn't waste any chance.

Chomping down hard with his teeth, the Arcanine did a Bite attack on the Skitty's tail, as the Skitty winced in pain. Eventually, Arcanine had let go of the Skitty's tail. The moment she was let loose, the feline Pokemon immediately started chasing her tail, as if she was trying to reach for her tail to lick off the pain, or simply ease up the pain. After all, I did heard before that Skitty tend to run in circles to lower the impact and damage a certain move does to it, or perhaps in the case of using Double-Edge, to lower the amount of recoil received.

Though, as the Skitty continued to run and run in circles, the Arcanine seemed to got too enveloped in looking at the way that Skitty was running. In fact, Arcanine wasn't as fierce and intimidating as before. Not only that, as the Arcanine returned to the original position that he stood, the way that he is looking at Skitty is also different. Before, he had an intimidating glare and his eyes were very much focused on his opponent, but not now. It seemed to me that he was even smiling dreamily at the Skitty while he looked at the feline Pokemon endearingly.

"Uh-oh, I think your Arcanine was struck with Charm and is in love with the Skitty due to Cute Charm. It must have happened during that contact move with Bite just now." I commented, just making sure the trainer also knew what happened. Some moves are more obvious, but there are also some that couldn't be told so easily, which was why all Rangers needed special training to observe the wild Pokemon's actions and attacks, so that we know what moves it used and what effect was produced.

I watched the Skitty's movement as she continued chasing her tail that was already bruised up and was swollen red, crazily in circles.

With the same movement as he had done before with Sunkern, he pounced and took an intimidating stance over the small feline and paused long enough for the Skitty to look up and acknowledge his overwhelming presence but all it did was purr. The cute, gentle cat then adopted a frantic look knowing what’s going to happen. Instead of initiating the first attack the Skitty simply did a full one-eighty and to run, caught off guard by this Holden chomped down on the Skittys but only managing to catch the tip of Skittys tail.

The Skitty cried out in pain, and at this Holden released his grip and for some reason unknown to me the Skitty started running around in circles. I looked over to Holden expecting to see the same confused look as I had but no, there was something different about him, his fierce look had dissipated into one that was almost dreamlike and admiring.

“uh-oh, I think your Arcanine was charm and is in love with the Skitty due to cute charm. It must’ve happened during that contact move with bite just now.” Ataro reassured me.

Damnit, I completely forgot about the Skittys cute charm effect, but instead of a feeling of annoyance I was more impressed, it made me want the Skitty more due to its useful battle effects. Instead of risking the chance that Holden may not attack I decided to call him back, I reached down to my belt and grabbed two pokeballs.

“Holden come back” I said while opening his pokeball, “Come out Winston” I called out while throwing the other pokeball.
The red light faded away, and my Sealeo appeared, looking quite confused at the Skitty running around in circles, this must look weird from the outside.

“Come on then Winston, use aurora beam at Skittys feet”

I had expected to see the look of frustration or anxiousness on my trainer, but he got even more delighted. I thought that perhaps he was impressed with the Skitty's performance. Since after all, he was planning to catch the Skitty and make it the new addition in his team.

"Holden, come back," he said while returning the infatuated Arcanine back into the species' sphere. He then threw another Pokeball and shouted, "Come out Winston!"

The red light transformed into a Sealeo; a Pokemon that resembles a sea lion. The Sealeo had mostly sky-blue skin throughout, except for the underside of his throat and chest, which were in beige coloration. Although he was in a battle, the Sealeo still maintained a happy and high spirited expression, as if he had eaten lots of candies. This was quickly followed by a confused expression however, as Sealeo studied the Skitty in front of him, running in circles hyper-actively.

"Come on then Winston, use Aurora Beam at Skitty's feet!"

I wasn't quite sure about the choice of move. While Aurora Beam was an Ice-type move, it wasn't quite efficient at freezing objects or in this case, Skitty's feet. Though, that was just what I assumed. I was imagining that the Aurora Beam was to try and freeze up Skitty's feet so that she would stop running, because otherwise, it'd be quite pointless to aim specifically for the feet. However, Aurora Beam is more like a light-based attack and simply causes damage, but isn't capable of freezing anything.

The Sealeo had obeyed his trainer without any hesitation, and started to concentrate on doing an Aurora Beam. The white whiskers on his face had curled up now, and started to form a white orb in front of Sealeo's mouth, as if it was controlled with the Sealeo's whiskers. The white orb was then fired at the Skitty, diving lower on the ground to aim for the legs. Just when it was fired, the spherical energy orb exploded into a rainbow-colored beam, smashing into Skitty's tiny legs.

The feline Pokemon was thrown back, slamming herself onto the concrete ground. I looked at her as she desperately tried to get up, although her foreleg that took most of the impact of the Aurora Beam was seemingly in great pain. I sympathized with the Skitty, even though I could do nothing to help her. I just couldn't help pitying such a cute Pokemon when it's getting hurt. I recalled Daniel's Pokemon's data and looked at the Sealeo. Just like what I had expected, Sealeo seemed to be sympathizing with the Skitty as well, though he didn't moved up front to offer a lending hand. I'd suppose the Pokemon was still quite obedient to his trainer, even though he seemed like he wanted to befriend the Skitty.

Eventually, the Skitty had managed to get up, though she was limping and relying on her hind legs to support her weight. I watched on excitedly, as I started to think what moves the Skitty would use to counter back. To my surprise, the Pokemon opened her mouth and started singing a soothing lullaby with a melodious voice. That would be incredibly hard to dodge.

Some forms of Sing were both visual- and sound-based, the soothing voice would transform into multicolored musical notes that would make the opponent fall asleep if they get hit by the musical notes. However, Skitty's Sing seemed different from the rest. There were no musical notes, but just the sweet and serene voice. I noticed Daniel's Sealeo had already started to get drowsy. If he still didn't do anything, the Sealeo would surely fall asleep. Even I myself, didn't know how to fend off the Sing now.

"You need to stop that Sing effect from making your Sealeo fall asleep somehow. I don't even know what you can do, but Sealeo will fall asleep anytime if this goes on! But even if Sealeo tries to attack the Skitty, it might be too late by the time the attack or Sealeo himself reaches Skitty ..." I said, while ending my sentence with an unfinished thought. I was a bit unsure about what to comment anyway. I waited to see if Daniel had any strategy in mind.

The aurora beam had damaged the Skittys forelegs, to the extent that she was thrown back quite a back and hitting the ground hard, in the distance I seen her try and correct herself, struggling to support herself on her forelegs, I looked over and saw Sealeo, it was in his nature to be friendly and something told he didn’t enjoy doing that, but he would have a chance to get to know her once shes caught.

Once the Skitty was up she opened her mouth allowing a beautiful sound to be released and wave through the air. I knew that it was the sing attack and knew there’s I chance I may not be able to avoid it, I stood there strategies going through my mind, multiple outcomes flowing through thought, trying to find out how to come out of this better off, nothing was coming up.

“You need to stop that Sing effect from making your Sealeo fall asleep somehow. I don't even know what you can do, but Sealeo will fall asleep anytime if this goes on! But even if Sealeo tries to attack the Skitty, it might be too late by the time the attack or Sealeo himself reaches Skitty ...” Ataro said reminding me of the incoming attack.

At those words it came to me, there was a chance that an attack may not be fast enough, so instead of attacking I would use a status move.

“Winston use encore” I called out hoping to be fast enough, with this the Skitty would hopefully keep singing while Sealeo slept.

"Winston, use Encore!" Daniel shouted, although he seemed to be quite worried at the same time. He probably hoped the attack would be fast enough and get to the Sealeo. However, by using Encore, that meant that Sealeo would fall asleep too... I surely hoped he had something good in mind, because Sing spamming will not be beneficial to him at all, even though that means the Sealeo can't hurt his Pokemon.

The Sealeo obeyed his trainer and raises his whiskers. A white orb of energy was almost immediately formed and the sea lion Pokemon then fling it at the Skitty. Just as the orb was about to make contact, it suddenly smashed into a barrier-like surface instead and exploded into sparkling white light, as if it was just a light display effect. The barrier was of a mystical ocean blue, and gave off continuous aura-like sparkles. The moment it was smashed by the white orb of Encore, it simply shattered the Encore into nothing, leaving the Skitty completely shielded from that attack.

Not backing down, the Skitty had already began her next attack as she started to open her mouth to launch an attack. Meanwhile, Daniel's Sealeo was completely helpless, making himself quite comfortable by snoozing on the ground. I didn't know if Daniel had anything in mind, but he better think of something quick, because Skitty was already going on offensive.

I looked at the Skitty, whom opened her mouth wide and a black ball of shadow energy started to form. With a huge leap, she did a somersault and fired the Shadow Ball at double the velocity of the normal power and speed, probably due to the spinning and jumping she did. This sent the Shadow Ball flying in like the bullet of a sniper. When she landed, she landed in a crouching position, but her body became surrounded in yellow sparks instead. I couldn't even lose any concentration on the Skitty; she was really much stronger than I thought.

With the sparking electricity around her, she released the powerful charge of Thunderbolt from her body and strike it at the back of the Shadow Ball. From the impact, the Shadow Ball only increased in velocity, yet again. Not only that, the sphere was now surrounded by the yellow sparks, sizzling with high voltage electricity.

"She used a Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt combo! If the attack hits your Sealeo, I'm afraid it will be extremely painful!" I warned Daniel. He didn't have many options left. From the options that I considered, he could either have Sealeo sit there and take the damage, or return Sealeo and send out Arcanine, except Arcanine will take the onslaught of the combo attack instead.

OOC: just a thought, will this skitty have thunderbolt and shadow ball if i catch it or is that just for RP'ing purposes

The encore had no effect on the Skitty instead it struck some sort of surface that shielded the Skitty which left the Skitty able to sing Winston to sleep.

Winston lay there unaware of anything going on around him, the good thing about Sealeo is that strategies can be made around the fact he is sleeping, although his manoeuvrability was seriously halted he still retained a sense of offensive power that he can use. Suddenly the Skitty had launched it self into the air releasing a shadow ball of impressive velocity followed shortly after by a thunderbolt that had enhanced the shadow balls effectiveness against Winston.

“She used a Shadow Ball and Thunderbolt combo! If the attack hits your Sealeo, I'm afraid it will be extremely painful!” Ataro warned me.

Great now I’ve got two options switching Winston out with Holden or continuing on. After some thought I decided to keep Winston in.

    “Winston, use Snore”

    “Winston, use Snore!"

Smart. That was a good way to take advantage of a bad situation, and still make good use of it. By making use of the fact that Sealeo's sleeping, Daniel went for Snore instead, which only works while the user is sleeping. Unfortunately, I knew that the limited power of Snore which was quite small, as compared to the Shadow Ball that was already stronger and faster than normal, and also powered up with Thunderbolt, could do barely anything.

Though, before Sealeo could even start to snore, the Shadow Ball came smashing in first, throwing the Sealeo back a few inches away with the power and speed of the attack. Since the Sealeo was sleeping, he displayed no significant emotion but maintained neutral throughout, but I could tell that when the Shadow Ball made contact, the electricity that was infused with it had already damaged Sealeo quite badly, especially since the fellow was a Water-type and those types get conducted by electricity very easily.

The Sealeo, still with his eyes closed, opened his mouth and started to let out an ear-piercing Snore. The Skitty started to shriek as she cowered onto the ground and curled her ears up, trying to shelter out the Snore as much as possible. When Sealeo had finally stopped after a while, the Skitty started to get up slowly unsteadily. She was panting heavily, her fur was pretty ruffled up, and she had bruises almost everywhere. Sealeo on the other hand, while not panting but snoring away, had many bruises on his body as well. I had a feeling this battle would end soon, as the Skitty had started to look worn out.

Though, I knew that capturing the Skitty now would be almost pointless as well. Daniel had to lower the Skitty to even lower health, to the point where Skitty is almost knocked out but still barely standing, that would be a good time for a capture. And it would be even better if the Skitty was inflicted with a status condition. Among his two Pokemon, only Arcanine had a status inflicting move and it was Will-O-Wisp, which wasn't really a good choice since if the capture fails, the burn might knock out the wild Pokemon instead. But still, that was just an assumption. Although, it would still be possible to capture a Pokemon, especially a simple one like Skitty, without inflicting a status condition. I decided I would give a hint to Daniel, since this was his first time in the Park anyway.

"Looks like the Skitty is starting to get worn out. You might want to lower it even more, to the point where it is almost knocked out but still barely standing, then throw a Pokeball or whatever capture devices you have and hope for the best." I reminded him.

the attack had struck hard on Sealeo, i was only thankful for the fact he was asleep else that could have really hurt him, i looked over to the skitty who was looking very worn out, it was almost time for it's capture.

"Looks like the Skitty is starting to get worn out. You might want to lower it even more, to the point where it is almost knocked out but still barely standing, then throw a Pokeball or whatever capture devices you have and hope for the best." Ataro called out

Ataro was right there was little chance of capture at this rate and skitty was too tired to produce an attack of that strength again so i thought it was a safe bet to snore again

    "winston snore"
