A low flying Togekiss swoops over Ranger Outpost #4 before landing at the entrance, the ranger Elayna sliding off. "Thanks Togekiss. Here, take a rest." She draws a Pokéball from her belt before emitting a red laser, the Togekiss disappearing in a flash.

Elayna smiles again before looking up, the outpost’s secretary standing at the door waiting for her. “You know the teleport is quicker, right?”

“Yeah, but nowhere near as exhilarating.” Elayna smiles and walks up, the secretary handing her a clipboard with her next assignment.

The secretary explains a little as she reads through “His name’s Johnny. Seems like a good guy, and he’s got a strong team. Nice easy one to start the month, eh Elayna?”

Elayna just smiles in response, nodding a little as she hands the clipboard back. “Is he in the field already, or waiting in the lobby?”

“In the field, he was headed towards the mountain.”

Elayna curses under her breath a little before quickly drawing a Pokéball. “Got to be fast then...”


A few minutes later she rushes down the path to the mountain atop a red, fiery canine Pokémon, her Arcanine. The two race along the path until she spots a trainer walking along the road, matching the description of Johnny in her file. She smiles a little, directing Arcanine towards him as they quickly catch up. As soon as they’re beside him, Elayna slides off the Pokémon, deftly returning him to his ball.
“Johnny, I presume?”

Jonny seems friendly enough as he greets Elayna, introducing himself. Elayna nods a little as the trainer smiled at him. “I’m Elayna, I’ll be guiding you through Mount Deckbi.”

The red monkey looks at her before shouting his name excitedly, drawing a smile from her face. “Nice to meet you both. Now, the national park is dangerous, even for the most seasoned of trainers, so I’m going to have to ask you stay with me at all times. If things get to dangerous, I’ll be able to get you and your team to safety. Other than that, I think we’re ready to go.”

No sooner has she finished her sentence as a rock lands near their feet. A little away, a Pokémon shaped like a rock with two arms shouts over. “Geodude!” It bounces a couple of times, obviously trying to get the twos attention.

Elayna smiles a little. “Well now, it looks like you have your first challenger. What will you do?”

Jonny decides to take on the Geodude, Infernape clearly itching for a fight. "Ezio, charge in and start this fight off with a Brick Break attack!”

The fire and fighting type quickly dashes in, his arm glowing white. However, at the last second, he quickly jumps to the side at the last second. “Inferrrr-NAPE!” His arm smashes down quickly, crashing into the rock type’s head.

Geodude groans, eyes widening in pain. However, it quickly recovers before jumping back. “Geeeooo...DUDE!” The entire earth seems to shake with the pure force of Geodudes attack. The shaking quickly throws Infernape off its feet and sends it flying backwards, hitting its head hard on the floor. Clearly, the attack did a lot of damage to Infernape, however Geodude didn’t look like it was in a position to repeat the feat any time soon.

Ezio is momentarily stunned, but quickly manages to regain it’s footing after some encouragement from Jonny.

"Alright Ezio, get in there and use a Mach Punch attack! And then get out of there quickly!"

The Infernape is more than happy to oblige, his fist glowing white with energy. It quickly dashes in to attack. Geodude tries to attack it by pelting it with rocks, however Infernape is more than quick enough to dodge them. He throws his first hard into the rock type at the last second, the force of the attack sending Geodude flying backwards.

Geodude struggles to regain its balance after, looking up at the Infernape with a pant. However, its hand slides across a rock. It takes a second to look at it before quickly hurling it at Ezio, aiming high. The stone falls short of it’s mark, not quite getting the Infernape’s head. However, it still glances it’s arm, leaving a mark.

Even through this act of defiance, it’s obvious that Geodude isn’t going to last much longer in a battle. It’s breath comes out in pants, and it’s forced to support itself on one fist. Elayna wonders to herself weather the trainer would take pity on the rock type, or finish off his assault.

Jonny decided to switch Ezio out after healing it, quickly brining out a large red insectoid Pokémon, Scizor. However, Geodude took full advantage of the short break as it begins to spin in place. It builds momentum for a few seconds before launching itself forward, attempting to hit Scizor full on.

The attack hit’s Scizor square in the chest, knocking it back slightly. However, the rollout doesn’t do much damage yet.

Geodude keeps rolling, building both speed and momentum as it turns around, launching itself at Scizor again.

The ball makes contact with the rolling Geodude, however rather than catching it, merely bounces to the side harmlessly.

Geodude keeps rolling, again hitting Scizor right in the chest. The damage is enough to knock Scizor back considerably as Geodude keeps rolling. The next attack would do a lot more damage to Scizor, who is already looking slightly tired.

Elayna looks at Jonny as she silently wonders what his next plan of action would be: attempt to catch the vastly growing out of control Geodude? Or simply finish it off?

"Hello," I said down the telephone line. "Yes, yes, of course," I replied I'm on my way," I said unable to keep the excitement from my voice. Apparently I was needed to help escort a trainer around the Park. Unfortunately, their ranger had to leave early. I pushed back the hard, wooden chair I was resting on and rubbed myhazel eyes with my prestine hands. So far it had been a long, tiresome day. Hopefully a trip around the Park would help entertain me, and the trainer of course.

I scooped up my rucksack and turned to the bloted door. My hands whirred over the door lock for a second before it flung open revealing large mountains with cracked walkways spiralling around them, many dissappearing into holes in the mountains sides. I fliched a little as the surprisingly warm air blasted against my face. I had forgotten there was no air conditioning around here. I did a quick stretch and made my way to the trainer's whereabouts.

The trip was quite short and only lasted a few short-lived minutes. I saw a man waiting around when I reached the foot of one of the larger mountains. He was slumped on top of a large rock. Several cracked, grey rocks lay beside him. I gave the trainer a quick wave.

"Hello, I'm Jay. You may have seen me lurking around your Gym a few times," I smiled, recognising the Veilstone Gym Leader. "Oh, poor fella," I said as I noticed a Geodude laying down unconsciously on the hard, rocky ground. I stooped down and gave it a quick pat on the head and it began to pur softly. "How cute," I said as I looked at my trainer who wasblushing a bright crimson colour.

IC:"Oh yeah... that Geodude." Jonny chuckled nervously. "He was being stubborn and not getting into the ball... so I kinda knocked it into next July." Jonny said as he spared a glance over at his Scizor, which was flexing its pincers in an attempt to show it's dominance. "Ryu here wants another fight it looks like." Jonny mused out loud. "So let's go see what we can find."

"Don't worry," I smiled. "I'm sure that another Pokemon will pop up soon," I grinned as I saw a small head bob out of the ground. The brown creature had a large, bulbous pink nose and as it moved a trail of soft gravel seemed to follow. I watched the Diglett skirt over towards us and it gave the mighty Scizor a puzzled look as it's mouth extended into a sly grin and a small pink tongue poked out.

"Look's like this Diglett could prove to be quite a trouble maker. Would you like to catch it?"

BP:

As soon as Ryu saw the troublesome Diglett emerge from the ground it became clear that he wanted to fight it. He hopped forcefully over to the Diglett and forced his larynx to vibrate, creating a deep growl. This was a typical kind of thing that Scizor's would do when they feel threatened. Instead of retreating like most Pokemon would, Diglett held it's ground and it wiggled it's round, pink nose. This indicated that it wasn't threatened in the slightest, perhaps it was even bored.

"Relax," Jonny said calmly."It's clear to me that Ryu here wants to fight... and who am I to stop him?" he added casually. "After all, that Diglett did stick his tongue out at my Scizor..."

At the sound of these words Scizor's face creased with concentration as it stared at the little Ground type Pokemon. Diglett's returned the stare in an amusing sort of fashion. It's little face looked so weak and innocent in comparison to Scizor's. It's jet-black eyes twinkled like stars in the night sky.

"Okay Ryu, let's hit him hard and hit him fast." Jonny said to Ryu, who nodded eagerly. "Bullet Punch!" Ryu took off, scattering small specks of gravel in every direction. It's translucent wings turned into a blur as it hovered slowly by me. I could see the determined look engraved onto it's cold, hard face. It's two arms shot out in front of him and it's patterned pincers snipped at the air as it flew by, taunting the Diglett slightly. It's red-and-black pincers glowed a metallic silver colour when it was a few metres away from the Diglett. The Diglett's head popped under the ground for a moment or two, causing me to think that it was to evade the attack. But, it's head popped back up, confusing me slightly. When the Scizor was a few steps away from the Diglett it tripped over something on the ground. Dirt scattered in all directions as the Scizor's momentum kept him going. I knew he was adamant about landing a hit or two.

As the Scizor flew through the air it managed to smack the Diglett in the face with one of it' outstretched claws. Diglett's head shot back with the impact of the blow. Scizor fell to the hard, rocky ground afterwards. The Scizor leapt up to his dainty feet immediately afterwards. I could tell that the cocky Scizor was a little embarassed at the crash. The Diglett turned around to face the metallic bug. Diglett looked a little worse than before, but this one was quite determined to continue battling. It dawned on me then that the Diglett must have done something underground in an attempt to trip up Scizor.

Diglett moved forward and bowed it's head down into the groud. It's head jumped back out, scattering flecks of sand at the Scizor. If the sand got into it's eyes I knew that things would be a lot harder for Scizor.

Jonny watched in horror as his elo ed Scizor crashed face first into the ground, scattering dust particles and pebbels. Ryu looked just as shocked at what happened. His face was stained with a look of disgust at how he tripped up so casually, and, a hint of dissappointment was etched into his steel-covered face. The Scizor's face merged into a vengeful and deadly face as it spied the fun-loving Diglett that was approaching once more. The Diglett flicked some grains of loose sand into Scizor's wide eyes. The Scizor jumped back with shock and brought it's claws up to it's red eyes and attempted to remove the stinging sand from it's eyes. It fumbled around for a few seconds to no avail, before facing it's opponent and attempting to ignore the stinging black blobs blocking parts of his vision. I wanted to help him, but I knew I couldn't.

The Diglett began rocking it's small bobbing head from side to side, backwards and forwards relentlessly, trying to taunt the Scizor even more. it wiggled it's eyebrows and poked it's tongue out repeatedly, whipe making funny faces.

''RYU!'' Jonny shouted at the enraged Scizor, trying to divert it's attention. ''Calm down! That Diglett wants you to act this way! That's how he's going to beat you!''

I exchanged a knowing glance with Jonny. He was smarter than I had assumed at first. This was an unusual strategy performed by Diglett at the Park. Mainly used against larger foes. Jonny said something to his Scizor that I didn't hear. But, Scizor looked a lot calmer as he brought his two arms together and crossed them making an ''X'' shape. His two arms glowed a dangerous lime green colour and he pushed them forward causing the ''X'' shape to break off from him and rushed through the air before smacking the unsuspecting Diglett in the face, leaving a harsh red ''X'' in it's skin from where the attack hit. Diglett gave an uncharacteristic whimper and burrowed it's way underground.
